Weisskopf, Albert H. “Al”
A longtime resident of Roaring Run Rd. Mosherville, PA passed away veryunexpectedly at his home on Sunday morning, May 6, 2007. Born in Nuremburg, Germany, on February 17, 1921, Albert was the son of Henry & Maria Bille Weisskopf. He married Helen Jaeger on February 19, 1949 on Long Island. In addition to his loving wife and companion of 58 years, he is also survived by their six children, Linda (Peter) Tarnawskyj, South Wales, NY; Peter (Laurine) Weisskopf, Phoenix, AZ; Christine (Stephen) Haas, Chesterfield, VA; Elaine (Garret) Shook, Jacksonville, FL; Mary (Robert) LaBarre, Ashford, CT; Joanne Weisskopf, Willington,CT; grandchildren, Matthew Shook, Kyle LaBarre, Brittany Haas, Kelly LaBarre, Rebecca Shook, Danielle Haas, Brenna LaBarre and Jackson Shook; a brother, Fred (Jane) Weisskopf, Ruther Glen, VA. In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, George & Virginia Weisskopf. Albert loved his home, caring for his land and the surrounding countryside. Having moved from Long Island 28 years ago, Al loved the life he found here and the many friendships he made. Active in the Wells-Jackson Lions Club as the present treasurer and
charter member, he believed in giving back to the community. In serving the Lord , Al was very active in St. Mary’s Church where he was a parishioner. Al enjoyed square dancing with his beloved Helen; spent many hours working his land, repairing anything with "wheels" and mastering his computer

Deats, Mary H.
A long time resident of the Southport community, passed away in the comfort of her home, Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007 at the age of 71. Mary was the daughter of Clarence & Dorothy Davenport Whipple. Surviving are her loving daughters, Nicol Enright; Sherri & Lloyd Mattison; her mother, Dorothy Whipple; grandchildren, Selina Nardi & Nate Cornish, all of Elmira; Tanya Rae Mattison, Sugar Creek, MO; Amber Vroman, Elmira; Amanda, Zack, Jami and Jordan Mattison, Elmira; sisters, Dorothy Kennedy, Syracuse, NY; and Nancy Belloma, Conestoga, PA; a step brother, Jack (Rose) Andrus, Southport and many family friends. Mary loved crocheting and watching NASCAR “Tony Stewart”. Mary will be remembered as a loving and caring mother with a warm and loving smile. She was predeceased by her husband, James J. Curren, Duane W.
A well known resident of the Fassett, PA community, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, April 21, 2007 while residing at the Phyl-Carlo Retirement Center at the age of 86. Duane was the son of John Wilson & Beatrice Shear Curren. He was raised on the family farm and farmed it until an unfortunate accident forced him to change his life work and become the owner and operator of Curren’s State Line Gas, Service and Grocery which he operated until his retirement. Duane is remembered by his family as a loving husband and father who found great joy in caring for his family, traveling to Florida in the winter with his wife Irma, hunting, fishing and gardening, he was known by many as “Mr. Rhubarb”. In serving the Lord, he was a member of the Fassett Baptist Church. Having lived across the street from the church, Duane devoted many hours of service to the church; among his many tasks, Duane maintained the lawn and flowers for many years. He was a charter member of the Wells-Jackson Lions Club.
He is survived by his loving children, Cynthia Heatherington, Southport, FL; Martin D. & Phyllis Curren, Lawrenceville, PA; Timothy & Heide Curren, Gillett, PA; LaRue Curren, Fassett, PA; Janet & Jeffery Holland, Havana, FL; four grandchildren, Eugene Ayres, April Powell Martinez, Tina and Molly Curren; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Jane Daggett, Arden, NC; Diane Stoner, Cedar Crest, NM; an aunt, Maxine Shear, Coudersport, PA; a cousin, Madge Curren-Verchere, Versailles, France a brother-in-law, Larue Frickel, Elmira; many close and caring friends, including his best buddy, Donald Hartman, Golden Glow and Charlie Thomas, FL also those within the Millerton United Methodist Church and the Fassett Baptist Church families where Duane attended for many years.
In addition to his parents, Duane was predeceased by his loving wife and companion, Irma Curren in 2004, his brother, Robert Curren in 2006 and his grandson, Edgar Ayres in 2005.

Greene, Roy A.
A resident of the Pine City community passed away on Monday morning, April 16, 2007 at Elcor Heath Services with his loving wife Rosalie and daughter Diane by his side at the age of 70. Born on February 21, 1937 in Canton, PA, Roy was the son of Leroy & Della Campbell Greene. He married Rosalie Maier on June, 8 1979 at St. Patrick’s Church. In addition to his loving wife and companion of 28 years, he is also survived by a daughter, Diane & Jim Enlow, Elmira; a grandson and “buddy” Ryan Tyler, grandchildren, Allison Watkins, Kaitlyn, Jesse, and Joshua Enlow; a special nephew, Peter Greene, Columbia Cross Roads, PA; three sisters, Lucy Vonderacek, FL; Marilyn Wilcox, PA; Clara & Marvin Woodward, PA; a brother, Gordon & Elizabeth Greene, NY; devoted in-laws, Marrilyn & Donald Burris, Elmira; Alwynne & Miyoko Maier, CA; Wallace & Ola Maier, FL; several nieces, nephews and many family friends. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his first wife, Ellie Cameron Greene in 1976; three brothers, Clyde, Louis, and Bernard Greene; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy & Marion Maier; and a brother-in-law, Robert Wilcox.
A proud veteran, Roy served his country for 21 years in the United States Airforce. He was an avid hunter, made his own guns and was an auto mechanic. Roy is remembered as a hard working gentleman who provided well for his family and being a good neighbor in the Pine City community.

He was employed by Mill Brook for many years. An avid sportsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing and time spent outdoors.

Formerly of Herrick St. Elmira passed away at Heritage Nursing Home, Athens, PA on Wednesday evening, April 4, 2007 with his loving family by his side. Born on August 7, 1926 in Albany, NY, James was the son of William P. & Helen Manning Dolan. He married Mary Lou Shea on May 21, 1949 at St. Mary’s Church. A longtime resident of the Wellsburg, NY community passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, March 29, 2007. Born on October 17, 1932 in Atlanta, GA, Lucille was the daughter of Carlton & Velvia Estes Smith. She was married to E. Allyn Robinson in 1950 in Trinity Episcopal Church and has remained a parishioner there all her life. She is survived by her children, Gregory A. Robinson, Reston, VA; Jay (Jo) Robinson, Amherst, NY; Bryon (Linda Tanner) Robinson, Elmira, NY; Mark Robinson, Corning, NY; Linda Robinson, Martinsburg, W. VA; Jeffery (Andrea) Robinson, Elmira Heights, NY; Dianne M. Robinson, Corning, NY; three sisters, Louise Miller, Ringgold, GA; Carolyn (John) Harrison, Clifton Park, NY and Edna (Robert) Cook, Elmira, NY; a brother, Carlton (Emily) Smith, Binghamton, NY; a brother-in-law, William Belig, Mt. A resident of Pine City passed away Saturday March 17, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 78.
Richard was born on June 26, 1928 in Elmira son of George H. & Sarah Issacs Curren. In serving his country, he enlisted in the United States Army. A hard working man, Richard was employed as an auto mechanic for 30 years at Carol Motors and later retired from Clute Motor Co. A private man, Richard enjoyed playing cards, playing BINGO and watching television. Surviving are his children, Rick (Deanna) Curren, Horseheads; DJ (Karen) Curren, Pine City; and Terri (Joe) Orbin, Watkins Glen; grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony and Mikayla Curren, Joey and Meghan Orbin; a sister, Jane Curren, Horseheads; brothers, Lawrence Curren with whom he resided in Pine City; and Dave Curren, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Nancy Curren, Southport; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Don Curren. SNOWBURG, Ann Helena
A longtime resident of Southport, passed away as a result of an automobile accident on Thursday morning, March 15, 2007 in Lodi, NY at the age of 72.
Ann is survived by her loving family, sons, Alan & Pam Snowburg, Horseheads; and Holly Snowburg Jr., VA; a daughter, Christine Snowburg, Seneca Falls; brothers, Wesley, Rodney; and Gene; sisters, Pearl, Amy, Joyce and Louise; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased her first husband, Holly Snowburg, and her second husband, Manley “Rocky” Parks, and her beloved son, Paul Snowburg.
Ann was active in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses where she held a strong faith. A homemaker, Ann loved caring for her Southport home. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking.

A longtime resident of the Southport community passed away on Friday afternoon, March 16, 2007 at his home with his loving wife Margaret by his side.
Born on December 10, 1928 in Blossburg, PA, Gordon was the son of Irwin & Susan Wood Austin. He married Margaret Brown fifty four years ago. They raised a loving family who survive and cherish his memory. Sons, Gordon Austin, Southport; Richard Austin, Panama City Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Timothy, Ronda, Dawn, Tiffany, Brittany, Gordon Jr. and Curtis; eight great grandchildren, Joseph, Scott, Dakkota, Anthony, Jessy Mya, Ramzy, and Gavin Reese; nieces, nephews and many family friends. In addition to his parents Gordy was predeceased by his five siblings, and his cherished daughter, Sandra Jean Waltermire. A talented craftsman, many hours were invested in woodworking. Many of his items were sold at local flea markets. Gordy was employed by the Elmira City School District as a painter for nearly 30 years. He always held a special place in his heart for animals. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2005 and son Burt in 1978. Born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania in 1924, Fran moved to the Elmira area in 1940 and graduated from Southside High School in 1941. He joined the army after graduation and served in Okinowa during WWII. He was well known in the Elmira area for his skills as an automobile mechanic and operated Lyman Bros. Auto Service with his brother Lewis for many years. He was active in the early days of stock car racing at the various tracks in the region and loved Nascar. He was a longtime member of the Elmira Eagles Club, VFW, and American Legion. Formerly of Elmira passed away on Monday morning, February 26, 2007, in Myrtle Beach, SC where she had been residing at the age of 88. Born in Elmira, NY on April 4, 1918. Mary was the daughter of Frank & Victoria Iannone Mola. Mary is survived by her children Ann & Les Gilbert, Myrtle Beach, SC; Vickie & John Christofaro, Raleigh, NC; Fran & Don Ely, Jasper, GA; Peter & Mary Margaret “Peg” Mazzaraco, Myrtle Beach, SC; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Cie (Nate) Purdy, Elmira, NY; Angie Madell, Elmira, NY; nieces, nephews and cherished family friends. JONES, Kenneth E. ”Poppy”
A loving tribute written by the family of Kenneth E. Jones of Clifton Park, NY and formerly Cedar Street, Elmira, NY went to be with his loving Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the age of 80 with his loving family by his side. Born in Johnson City, NY on December 17, 1926, Kenneth was the son of Byron & Mary Gee Jones. Married to Gloria Neily in 1950, they were to celebrate 57 years of companionship on April 14 of this year. Kenneth worked for Hardinge Brothers, Inc. in Elmira for 35 years. Ken was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Rexford, N.Y. and previously at Calvary Baptist Church in Horseheads, NY. He served his country in the United States Army from 1945-1946. He received the WW II Victory Medallion. Ken was a very loving, hard working and supportive family man who took wonderful care of his wife and children. He had the exceptional ability to know how to fix most anything and greatly enjoyed freely sharing this gift with his friends and family. All who knew Ken “Poppy” enjoyed his grin, his whistle, his quiet, humble demeanor. His constant loving, supportive spirit will be missed by all he loved and all who loved him. Rice, Mary Kathryn
Passed away at her Elmira Heights apartment that she so lovingly cared for on Sunday morning, February 18, 2007 at the age of 82 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Millport, NY on March 9, 1924, Mary was the daughter of Hazel MacDougal Caywood. She was married to John R. Rice in 1945 and he predeceased her in 1950. Mary was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and close friend to many. Very social, she enjoyed round and square dancing, bingo, and bowling. Mary was a good friend to many of her neighbors at the Villa Serene where she resided.
Surviving her are her loving daughters and son-in-law, Rosalie & Mark Polovick, Elmira; and Connie Weale, Elsegundo, CA; sisters-in-law Montene Caywood, Wellsburg, NY; Betty Morgan, Millport, NY; four grandchildren Robbie (Anne) Polovick, Chad Polovick, Hope Buell and Tammy Grosch; seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many family friends. In addition to her mother and husband, Mary was predeceased by her son, James Rice; a sister, Joyce Fielder; three brothers, James Caywood; Harold Morgan and Arthur Caywood.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood’s Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Thursday, February 22, 2007 between the hours of 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will take place privately at the families convenience with the Reverend Donald Rockwell officiating. Mary will be buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery beside her husband, John Richard Rice following her funeral services.

A long time resident of Broadway, Southport passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 2007 at the Waters of Three Rivers Health Care Facility at the age of 92.
Anna was born on March 17, 1914 in Bentley Creek, PA daughter of Gottlieb & Augusta Schies Keller. She was married to Earl Plate who predeceased her in 1967. Anna was employed by the Mark Twain Hotel for many years as a waitress. In her younger years Anna won many awards for her dancing. A fun loving free sprit, Anna enjoyed Shuffel Board, traveling, long walks and being close to her family. Surviving is her loving children and their families, a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Lee & Ramona “Ronnie” Plate, Caton, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Rose Ann & Robert Congdon, Avon, NY; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Anna was predeceased by her son Dewayne Curren and her seven siblings. A longtime resident of the Gillett, PA community passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, February 4, 2007 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following an illness at the age of 86.
Born on March 15, 1920 in Elmira, Martha was the daughter of James Henry & Louie B. Rogers Voorhis. She was married to Norman Burt who predeceased her in 1952 and later married Lester Birney who also predeceased her in 1973. A homemaker and devoted mother, Martha enjoyed crafts, made rugs, afghans, cared for her home and made a comfortable place to raise her family who survive; sons and a daughter-in-law, Norman & Patricia Burt; Gillett, PA and Herschel Burt, Gillett, PA. many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are many friends including, Eileen Pautz; and her church family within the Wellsburg Baptist Church and the Gillett Baptist Church where she was a member. She was an active member of the American Baptist Women and active within the prayer chain. Martha was also a member of the Fassett Grange. She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Voorhis, Phylis McNeal and Audrey Becker-Martin; brothers, James and Perry Voorhis. A longtime resident of the South Creek Community, Wellsburg, NY passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 29, 2007 under the care of the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 81.
Born on November 29, 1925 in Erdenheim, PA, son of Charles P. & Sarah Woodley Lorenson. He married Edna Louise Warren on May 11, 1946 in Alba, PA. A WWII Navy Veteran, Charlie served his county during WW II. A hard working gentleman, Charlie was employed by Thatcher Glass, Elmira Heights for 25 years. An outdoorsmen, His many interest included hunting, walking his land and especially being with his family. He was a charter member of the South Creek Evangelical Church and worshipped their for many years. A family man, Charlie provided a loving and caring home for his family who survive and cherish his memory, a loving wife and companion of 60 years, Edna Louise Warren Lorenson, Wellsburg; their children, Charles (Carol) Lorenson, Fassett, PA; Linda (Ron) Townsand, Wellsburg; Sarah (Sylvester) Enos, Sharon, PA; Carolyn (Paul Wood Jr.) Lorenson, Elmira; three grandchildren, Jenniffer (Fred) Price, Charlee Enos and Eddie Enos; great grandchildren, Andrew, Samantha, Jacob, Connor and Hunter Cupp, Jeffery and Joseph Paul; a brother, George (Lillian) Lorenson, Skippack, PA; along with nieces nephews and many family friends.

A long time resident of the Pine City community passed away peacefully Wednesday January 17, 2007 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center at the age of 68. Born on August 8, 1938 in Sayre, PA. A daughter to the late Robert & Guenevere Warren Harris. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Bahr of 45 years, their children, Susan (Ken) Hollenbach, PA; and Kevin Bahr, Pine City; grandchildren, Laura, Kelsey and Caleb Hollenbach; a sister, Joann (Dick) Hall, GA; a brother, Thomas Harris of Elmira; Diane loved polka dancing with her husband, boating and water skiing. She cherished time spent with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Diane was predeceased by her grandmother, Florence Warren with who she was especially close. With great determination, She was employed by Sprague Insurance Office of Corning as an Administrative Assistant. Diane faced many physical obstacles in the last ten years. Her drive, determination and true strength will never be forgotten. She survived two liver transplants and requested that memorials be directed to the American Liver Foundation, 30 Sunrise Terrace, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009 in her memory. A long time resident of the Pine City community, passed away in the comfort of her home with her family by her side on January 17, 2007 at the age of 87. Born on December 16,1919 in Schuyler County, NY. A daughter to the late Frederick & Ethel Baker Spears. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Harold Sheive, their children Donald F. Sheive, Vine Valley, NY; Linda J. (Richard) Corson, Elmira, NY; Bruce C. (Brenda) Sheive of Centerville, VA; step-daughter Marlene (Harry) Roman, Elmira, NY; daughter-in-law Linda (Richard) Sheive Vine Valley, NY; five grandchildren, Sarah (Ted) Normand, Jozel O'Donnell, Joseph O'Donnell, Davis Sheive and Harrison Sheive, a sister Clara Teed, Dundee, NY along with nieces, nephews and many family friends. She was predeceased by her step-son Richard Sheive in 1979. Lillian was a seamstress for Iva Ripley Sewing Service, Southport and also worked for Remington-Rand. She was a charter member of the Webbs Mills Fire Department Auxiliary. A loving mother and wife, she cared well for her home and family. Her many interests included traveling, flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and baking. She made many wedding cakes for family and friends. She was a former member of the South Creek Evangelical Free Church and presently attended the Living Word Evangelical Free Church.

Of Elmira, NY, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning. December 31, 2006 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on April 25, 1924 in Blossburg, PA; Lavern was the son of Rolland & Mildred Catlin Rose. Lavern graduated form Horseheads High School in 1942. He married Charlotte Marie Norris on August 30, 1944. Seldom apart, they have spent 62 wonderful years together. Lavern was a United States Veteran having served two tours of duty in the Navy and was a member of the American Legion Bentley Post # 443. An electrician by trade, Lavern was a member of the Electricians Union Local #139 and #289. In serving the Lord, he was a charter member of the Christian Faith Fellowship Church where he served as a church deacon. Lavern was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He loved to take his family camping, go hunting with his friends, enjoyed working in his garden in the summer time and tending to his Rose's. He enjoyed being a part of the movie "Twin Sister". His favorite holiday was Christmas time. Surviving is his loving family, wife and companion, Charlotte Marie Norris Rose; their children, Daniel L. Rose, Elmira; Darlene (Gary) Dupree, Horseheads; Jeanette Benjamin, Wellsburg; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Clifton) Soper, Breesport; Robin Gerrido, FL; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Eugene) Woychak, Pine City; Emily Rose, FL and Shirley Rose; nieces, nephews, church and family friends. Of the Southside, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Friday morning, December 29, 2006 at the age of 77.
Born on August 28, 1929 in Elmira, Bob was the son of Frances & Martha Gilmore McDonald. He married Mary Jane Tabash on April 16, 1955. Bob served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1952. A hard worker and good provider, Bob was employed by Westinghouse for many years, He also touched many young lives as a educator at BOCES where he taught business machines and computers. Bobs many interests included gardening, traveling, the NY Yankees and family times.
Surviving is his wife and companion, Mary Jane Tabash McDonald; their daughter and son-in-law, Joan & Ed Burrows, Pine City; three grandsons, Christopher Joseph “Chris”, Theodore Nicholas “Teddy” and Nathaniel Robert “Nate Burrows, sister’s, Ruth Veina, Southport; and Gail Watts, Pine City; brother’s, Francis (Margaret) McDonald, Southport; William (Marge) McDonald, Elmira; several nieces, nephews, cousins, especially James McDonald, Jamestown, PA; and their extended families. Also many close and loved friends including, Betty Burrows and Charles & Mary Sullivan. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother-in-laws, Charles Veina and Jack Watts.

Born in Elmira on May 25, 1924, Thera was the daughter of Raymond & Stella Clifford Gilkey. She was employed by Thatcher Glass for over 27 years. Thera was a wife to Robert McCann, Wallace Gillette and John Kirkendall who have predeceased her. She enjoyed caring for her home; her first love was for her 6 sons who survive, Robert James "Bob" (Vernel) McCann; TX; Eric (Johnette) Gillette GA; Van (Patricia) Gillette, Pine City; Hal (Sheila) Gillette, Pine City; Raymond Kirkendall, W. Elmira; and Curtis Kirkendall, OR; a brother, Lee (Helen) Gilkey, Horseheads; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many family friends. In addition to her parents and former husbands, Thera was predeceased by two sisters and a grandson, Bobby Gillette.
