Elzia Frankie Way
Elzia Frankie Way, 75, of Channelview, went to be with his heavenly father August 8, 2002. He was born July 1, 1927 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Frank & Lura Way.
Mr. Way was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He had moved to Houston from Oklahoma in 1967 where he worked for Reed Tool Company. He married Maureen Connolly Orton in July of 1967. Mr. Way was a member of the C.A. Fortner Lodge #1304 where he had served as Past Master; was a Past Patron of the Eastern Star Chapeter 954; Member of the Scottish Rite and Arabian Shrine Temple. He retired from Reed Tool in 1982, enjoying his retirement years with the Tall Bridge Sam's Camping & Armco Retirees Camping Clubs.
Services were held Monday, August 12, at Carter Funeral Chapel with Pastor Benny Cranford officiating. Masonic services were conducted by the C.A. Fortner Masonic Lodge. He was laid to reset in Houston National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the District 4 V.F.W. Memorial Team.
William Frederick Newton, Sr
William Frederick Newton, Sr. known to many as simply Freddie, age 55, of Houston, passed away after a long illness, . Freddie was born October 8, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio.
He had worked as a cook at Luby's for 27 years. He had served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was survived by one son, William Frederick Newton, Jr. of Houston; daughter, Kimberly Newton of Pasadena and many special friends including Mary Bonds and Mike Lofton of Houston. A memorial service was held Saturday, August 10 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating. Mr. Newton's cremains were later interred in the Houston National Cemetery.
Willie Flo Lansford
Willie Flo Lansford, 77, of Houston, went to be with her Lord September 8, 2002. She was born September 29, 1924 in Elkhart, Texas to William Robert and Emily Jane Durnell. She married Odney Quinn Lansford October 2, 1942.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars East Houston Chapter 955. Willie was a member of Woodforest Baptist Church. Her most ambitious career was as a loving mother and wife, although she did put in a number of years working as a secretary for the railroad and as a pastoral secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as by seven sisters. She is survived by her husband of almost sixty years, Quinn Lansford of Houston; sons & daughters-in-law, Michael & Debbie Lansford and Richard Craig & Debbie Lansford all of Porter, Texas; daughter & son-in-law, Rebecca & Larry Rankin of Spring, Texas; as well as five precious grandchildren, Jennifer Odom, Maatthew Odom, Casey Lansford, Bryan Lansford and Candace Lansford White.
Services were held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Woodforest Baptist Church with Rev. John A. Brady and Rev. Howard Wynn officiating. She was laid to rest in Antrim Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas. Serving as pallbearers were Matt Odom, Richard White, Bryan Lansford, Wayne Lucas, Bill Griffin and Robert Freeman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Willie Lansford to the Antrim Cemetery Association, 1666 H.C. 2290, Elkhart, Texas 75839 or to the Woodforest Baptist Victory Love Fund, 13305 Woodforest Blvd., Houston TX 77015.
J. R. Freeman
J. R. Freeman, 60, of Houston, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2002. Mr. Freeman was born August 26, 1942 in Alcorn County, Mississippi to Lonnie & Lillian Freeman. J.R. served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was an American Legion Speaker.
Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife, Diane Freeman of Houston; daughter, Jalynn Freeman of Deer Park; brother, Lonnie Freeman of Selmer, Tennessee; sister, Shirley Dotson of Corinth, Mississippi; grandchildren Casey McCoy and Celisa McCoy both of Houston; as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of good friends.
Services were held Friday, November 1, 2002 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk of Bandera Street Baptist officiating. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post 521 Memorial Team. Mr. Freeman was laid to rest in Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Shannon Freeman, Mike Moore, Tom Coleman, Sean Freeman and Marvin Harrelson.
The family of Mr. Freeman wishes to thank all who were in attendance for Thursday evenings visitation, as well as Friday's service.
Diana Lynn Truitt
Diana Lynn Truitt, age 49, of Hosuton, Texas, passed away October 22, 2002. Diana was born March 13, 1953 in Houston, Texas to John C. & Mary Irene Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Deborah Jones. She is survived by one daughter & son-in-law, Shawna & Brian Bolding of Jacinto City; as well as by one sister, Sandra Talley and brother, Roland Thompson.
Ms. Truitt was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
Marie Louise Runnels
Marie Louise Runnels, age 82, of Houston, went to be with her Lord October 19, 2002. She was born September 15, 1920 in Fremont, Nebraska to Louis P. & Beate M. Hansen. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eliheu Runnels and one son, Ralph E. Runnels. She is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Ronald E. & Brenda Runnels of Houston; Norman Lee & Joyce Runnels of Devers, Texas; and Gerald & Cheryl Runnels of Dayton, Texas; daughter & son-in-law, Barbara & William Driver of McAllen, Texas; brother & sister-in-law, Elmer & Donna Hansen of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters & brother-in-law, Marion Dupree and Gerri Lou Warren Hammer of Nebraska. As well as18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at First Beltway Baptist Church with Rev. Rusty Sherman officiating. Mrs. Runnels was laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Henry Vaclavik, Michael Vaclavik, Norman Runnels, Jr., Forrest Parrish, Ray Runnels, and Daniel Werts.
Cynthia Lynn Murray-Sutter
Cynthia Lynn Murray-Sutter, age 49, of Channelview, passed away October 18, 2002 at her home. She was born March 4, 1953 in Houston, Texas to Lawrence D. & Anna Dell Murray. She was a beloved mother, sister and friend. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Sutter in 2001, she is survived by one daughter, Christina Sutter; brother & sister-in-law, Mike & Carol Murray of The Woodlands and one uncle, Lee Murray of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Whitmire officiating.
Christopher Alan Hoeft
Christopher Alan Hoeft, 48, of Houston, passed from this life, October 18, 2002. Chris was born June 5, 1954 in Boston, Massachusetts to Charles Jr. & Barbara Hoeft. Chris had lived and worked in the Houston area for 25 years where he made a living in automobile sales and custom conversions.
Chris is survived by one son, Taylor Hoeft of Montgomery, Texas; one daughter, Brittany Hoeft of Montgomery, Texas; his parents Charles & Barbara Hoeft of Bourne, Massachusetts; brotehr, Glenn Hoeft of New London, New Hampshire; sisters, Cheryl McVeigh of Houston; and Cynthia Vaccaro of Stow, Massachusetts. Private services were held in Bourne, Massachusetts.
Johnny Dale Scroggins, Sr.
Mr. Johnny Dale Scroggins, Sr., age 56, of Channelview, passed away November 27, 2002 at his home. Mr. Scroggins was born October 31, 1946 in Baytown, Texas to Cecil D. & Erma J. Scroggins. Mr. Scroggins is survived by his son, Johnny Scroggins, Jr. of Channelview; daughters, Cynthia Marie Dees & son-in-law, Tony Bostick of Houston and Christine Marie Smith, of Houston; mother, Mrs. Erma Witt of Channelview; sister, Cecilia Holley of Channelview; and brother, Jodie L. Rouse of Channelview; as well as seven grandchildren.
A private memorial was held Sunday, December 8, 2002.

Mrs. Ilah Kincaid, age 93, of Galena Park, passed away November 12, 2002. Mrs. Kincaid was born June 12, 1909 in Sulphur Springs, Alabama to Henry D. & Maggie Veal. Private memorial services to be held at a later date.
Edna LaVerne Walters
Edna LaVerne Walters, age 68, of Houston, passed away November 10, 2002. LaVerne was born October 9, 1934 in Jay, Florida to Ralph Willie Moore. She married Charles E. Walters on July 31, 1973 and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in by her parents as well as by tow sons, Dany & Wayne Boutwell and one great-granddaughter, Karlee Danielle Dannelley. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Charles Walters of Houston; son & daughter-in-law, Steve and Darlene Boutwell of Channelview; daughters & sons-in-law, Barbara & Johnny Branson of Jay, Florida; Janice & Jimmy Dannelley of Milton, Florida; brothers & sisters, Rick Moore and Frank Moore both of Houston; Gerald Moore and William Earl Moore of Dayton, Texas; Norma Sasser of Houston; Nancy Smith of Dayton; Jeannette Leach of Lufkin and Lillian Simmons of Milton, Florida; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Nathan Boutwell, Daniel Boutwell, Josh Boutwell, Jarred Dannelley, Wayne Boutwell and Brandon Dannelley; with honorary pallbears, Justin Dannelley and Danny Branson.
Herbert Siegmund
Herbert Siegmund, 84, formerly of Port Lavaca, Texas, Died November 9, 2002. He was born January 20, 1918 in Lexington, Texas to Constance & Jessie Siegmund. He married Clara Lee Gilliam on July 12, 1942 and worked as a welder and pipefitter working for Stauffer Chemical for 18 years. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local #211.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Siegmund of Houston; daughters & sons-in-law, Vonnie & Lester Lakey of Houston; Brenda & Ray Petrvalsky of Pearland, Texas; grandchildren, Tyra Lakey of Houston; and Tim Petrvalsky of Pearland, Texas; as well as 4 great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held Monday evening in the Garden Chapel of Carter Funeral Home. Graveside services were 1:00 p.m. Tuesday November 12, 2002 in Brazoria Cemetery, Brazoria, Texas with Rev. Jim Doyle of First Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Tim Petrvalsky, L.J. Allard, John Gilliam, V.A. Richardson and Bert Richardson.
Anton Garza, Sr
Anton Garza, Sr., age 54, of Houston, went to be with his Lord November 8, 2002 after a long illness. Mr. Garza was born February 20, 1948 in East Bernard, Texas to Edward Sr. & Dominga Garza. Mr. Garza worked as a welder in the fabrication industry and proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
He married Maria Del Rosario Perez on Feb. 17, 1978. He was preceded in death by his father and by one son, Anton Garza, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Rosie Garza of Houston; son & daughter-in-law, Arturo Javier & Patricia Perez of Houston; daughters & son-in-law, Kristina Ann Garza, Marie Annette & Ramon Macias, and Monica Elizabeth Garza all of Houston; mother, Dominga Garza of Houston; brothers & sisters, Edward Garza, Jr.; Helda Luna, Lorenza Fernandez, Lupe Garcia, Dora Perez, and Arturo Garza all of Houston; as well as grandchildren, Emily Mellado, Sammy Mellado, Jr., Joseph Mellado, Arturo Javier Perez, II, Amanda Marie Perez, Adrian Andaya, Jr., Natalie Marie Andaya, Melissa Jeanette Macias, Jessica Norma DelaRosa and Baby Joe Octavio DelaRosa; two great-grandchildren, Eric & Alonzo Lopez.
Services were Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jesus Nieves officiating. He was laid to rest with full military honors directed by the V.F.W. District 4 Memorial Team, in the Houston National Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Ramon Macias, Arturo Perez, Arthur Garza, Lorenzo Fernandez, Joe Perez, Jr. and Arcadio Diaz.
Danie Alice Goodman
Danie Alice Goodman, 68, of Houston, passed away Monday, November 4, 2002. Danie was born April 2, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas to Woodrow "Tex" & Pauline Crawford. Mrs. Goodman was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Goodman, Sr., and by her sons, Morris Lee Goodman and Charles Albert Goodman and one sister, Joyce White. Mrs. Goodman is survived by her son, Larry Young of California; William O. Goodman, Jr. of Houston; Michael Cary Goodman of Houston; James Wilson Goodman of Porter; daughters & sons-in-law, Traci & Robert Sherrouse of Houston; Treasa & Jim Fugate of Santa Fe, Texas; Vickie S. & Joe Cooper of Houston; brothers and sisters, Francis Anderson of Pearland; Evelyn Downs of Houston; Martha Good of Splendora; Lois Weber of Houston; Georgia Storey of Dayton; Tim Crawford of Cleveland; Fred Crawford of Temple, Texas; Patrick Lavelle of Livingston; and Paula McKnight of Spring, Texas; as well as 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and by her beloved adopted son & daughter, Charles and Sandra Williamson.
A visitation was held Wednesday Nov. 6, 2002 at Carter Funeral Home with services on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002. Mrs. Goodman was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
Iva Lucille Umburn
Iva Lucille Umburn, 98, of Houston, went to be with her Lord December 30, 2002. She was born June 14, 1904 in Gray Horse, Oklahoma to James B. & Lurania Middlebrooks. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Crum Umburn in 1975 and by one son, Marvin Carl Whitten and one daughter, Velma Gwendolyn Willis. She is survived by one daughter, Maxine Huenerberg of Houston and by numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family met with friends and other family members January 1 with a Celebration of her life held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Baldridge, James Criswell, Donald Couch, Trey Lamb, Brian Theriot and Jarrod Theriot.
Paula Gloria Rendon Rodriguez
Paula Gloria Rendon Rodriguez, age 48 of Houston, passed away December 17, 2002. She was born January 19, 1954 in Amhurst, Texas to Calistro and Estella Rendon. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Frank Anguiano of Houston; sons, Johnny Pedraza and Ted Pedraza both of Houston; parents, Cal & Estella Rendon of Houston; brothers, Jesse Rendon; Julio Rendon; Abel Rendon, Calistro Rendon, Jr. and Eloy Rendonall of Houston; sisters, Adelina Garza of Rio Grande, Texas; Emma Ruiz of Houston; Yolanda Cavan of Channelview; and Josefina Brawner of Houston;as well as two grandchildren, Kaylynn Pedraza and Cierra Pedraza.
A Rosary was recited Thursday Dec. 19 at Carter Funeral Chapel with the funeral services held Friday Dec. 20 with Father Robert Carlson of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church as celebrant. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
