Ann Marie Perkins, 33, of Dayton, passed away January 30, 2003 in a tragic automobile accident. She was born February 20, 1969 in Upland, California to Gary Moore and Terri Pagano Moore. She is survived by her husband of 7 years, Carl Edward Perkins, Sr. of Dayton; sons, Cole Davis Richardson of Houston; Carl Edward Perkins, Jr. of Dayton; step-daughters, Lindsey Elaine Perkins and Macy Rae Perkins of LaPorte; sister & brother-in-law, Catherine & Jon Walden of Houston; and brother & sister-in-law, Scooter & Gina Moore of Pasadena; As well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held Monday, February 3, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Dayton with Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend who will deeply missed.

Dawn Shade
Dawn Shade, 50, of Spring, Texas, died January 26, 2003. She was born January 13, 1953 in Jesup, Georgia to Joseph Shade Jr. and June Pastor Shade. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Jasmine. She is survived by her husband, Keith Talley; daughter & son-in-law, Bridgett Loggins and Eric Anderson; son, T.C. Shade as well as five grandchildren, Devontae, Jaborise, Joevane, Dontae, and Eric. Memorial services were held Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Northwoods Baptist Church with Pastor Glen W. Ray officiating.

Tiffany Ann Parker Horne
Staff Sergeant Tiffany Ann Parker Horne, 27, of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Channelview, Texas, went to be with her Lord January 19, 2003. She was born April 29, 1975 to parents George Parker and Myrtle Ann Dodson Parker. She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1994 after finishing high school, receiving her basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and she served her country as an emergency medical technician for the U.S. Air Force. She was stationed in Del Rio, Texas for 4 years; served in Saudi Arabia for 3 months and served the last 4 years at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska.
Tiffany married Christopher L. Horne July 28, 2001. She is survived by husband, Chris Horne of Alaska; step-sons, Nicholas Horne and Daniel Horne of Alaska; parents, George Parker of Channelview; and Myrtle An Dodson of Alaska; twin sister and brother-in-law, Angela & Weldon Creech of Channelview; brothers, Aaron Parker of Alaska and Jason Parker of Houston; grandparents, George A. & Kay Parker of New Waverly, Texas and Theresa Dodson of Houston; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A Rosary was recited Sunday afternoon at Carter Funeral Chapel with services held in the Chapel of Houston National Cemetery officiated by Father Steve Zigrang of St. Andrews Catholic Church and full military honors by the U.S. AirForce Memorial Team under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Brad Ison, Dana Griswold, Weldon Creech, Aaron Parker, Kenny Davis and Carlos Lopez.

Kenneth Gerald Brister
Kenneth Gerald Brister, age 60, of Houston, passed away January 17, 2003 in a Katy hospital. He was born October 1, 1942 in Kingsville, Texas to Paul Arthur & Beatrice Caroline Brister. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service. He was currently employed with K-T Boat Company in Katy, Texas.
He is survived by sisters, Lola Stobb of Houston and Beatrice Hartshorne of Enid, Oklahoma; as well as 13 nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Services were conducted Wednesday, January 22 at the Houston National Cemetery where he was laid to rest with full military honors by the V.F.W. District 4 Memorial Team.

Harry Warren Matthai
Harry Warren Matthai, Jr., age 59 of Jacinto City, passed away January 17, 2003. He was born August 28, 1943 in Houston, Texas to Harry W. & Naomi J. Matthai. He was preceded in death by his beloved life-partner and friend, Joyce Regian in October 2002. He is survived by daughters, Wanda Dowlearn and husband Tony of Jacinto City; Christi-Lina Caccatori of Colorado; son, Harry Warren Matthai, III of Colorado; sisters, Legenia Stewart and Jeannett Stewart both of West Odessa, Texas; as well as grandchildren, Tony Dowlearn, II; Curtis Dowlearn; Dameon Caccatori; Treavor Caccatori; and Bianca Marie Ramirez.
Services were held, Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Hollywood Cemetery.

Edith Jewel Cox
Mrs. Edith Jewel Cox, 92, of Channelview, passed away January 14, 2003. She was born November 17, 1910 in Poolville, Texas to Emette & Nettie Coffman. She had worked as the Manager of the old Fair Department Store in Channelview for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Vern A. Cox in 1974.
She is survived by her sons, A.J. Cox of Springerville, Arizona; Bobby J. Cox of LaPorte, Texas and Elton T. Cox and wife Mary of McDade, Texas; and by daughters, Avon Childers & husband Loyd of Houston; and Edith Tullar also of Houston; as well as by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Jewel's life was held Friday, January 17, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Michael Harbour officiating. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Pallbearers were LoRay Cox, Glenn Cox, Aaron Childers, Christopher Martin, Raymond Breeland, Jason Breeland and Christopher Robin Bayer.

Juanita Anderson
Juanita Anderson, 79, of Channelview, passed away January 13, 2003. She was born July 21, 1923 in Doucette, Texas to William Homer and Sudie Ophelia Charlton. She is survived by daughter, Glenda Szepesi of Channelview; twin sister, Arnita Weaver of Channelview; brother, Clayton Charlton and sister-in-law, Wilmuth Charlton; as well as grandchildren, Josh Szepesi, John Szepesi, Jason Szepesi and Michelle Denman & husband Joseph; great-grandchildren, Kassidy & Kameron Denman.
Services were held Friday, January 17, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Moss officiating. She was laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton, Texas.

Evelyn Warken
Evelyn Warken, 79, of Houston, formerly of Highland, Michigan, died January 13, 2003. She was born April 29, 1923 in Smock, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Warken, Sr. and by one son, Richard A. Warken, Jr..
She is survived by son, Patrick M. Warken of Milford, Michigan; James J. Warken of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Edward L. Warken of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Hughes of The Woodlands; and Dr. Kristy A. Payne of Houston; great-grandchild, Hayden W. Hughes; as well as by sisters, Helen Lucostic & husband Mike of Pennsylvania; Margie Pegritz of Pennsylvania; and Patty DiCenzi & husband Armand of Louisville, Ohio.
Funeral Mass was held at Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland, Michigan with Father Leo Lulko officiating. She was laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery, in Pontiac, Michigan.

Winford H. Croswell
Winford H. Croswell, 71, of Jacinto City, passed away January 11, 2003. Mr. Croswell was born December 6, 1931 in Monroe, Louisiana to Lawrence B. & Annie Pearl Croswell. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He retired from Sysco Foods after 17 years. He was a Vice Commander of the V.F.W. Post 9296 and was Past President of the F.O.E.#3098.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate Croswell family. He is survived by his wife, Margie Croswell of Jacinto City; brother-in-laws and wives, Joe & Evie McDaniel of Huntsville, Texas; Doug & Linda McDaniel of Conway, Arkansas; Allen & Linda McDaniel of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri; Dave & Deanie McDaniel of Wynne, Arkansas; Sister-in-law & husband, Kathy & Lannie Heflin of Adkins, Arkansas; Brother-in-law, Henry Yee of Eudora, Arkansas; daughters, Cheryl and Brenda; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; along with special friends Roy & Tony.
The family and friends gathered Wednesday, January 15 at Carter Funeral Chapel with a Memorial Service observed by the Eagles Lodge at 7:00 p.m.. Military Services were conducted by the V.F.W. Post 8930 Memorial Team at 1:30 p.m. Thursday January 16, 2003 in the Veterans Chapel of Houston National Cemetery.

Edgar Barney Arter
Edgar Barney Arter, 73, of Houston, went to be with his Lord, January 9, 2003. Mr. Arter was born October 27, 1929 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to Floyd A. and Gertrude Arter. Mr. Arter was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He worked for Brown & Root for 20 years retiring in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nellie Arter of Houston; sons & daughters-in-law, Leonard Allen & Melody Arter of Houston; Albert Lee & Debbie Arter of Conroe, Texas; Randy Edward and Belinda Arter of Houston; daughters & son-in-law, Rebecca Sue Brown of Mt. Belvieu, Texas; and Frankie Jeanette & Michael Thornton of Houston; as well as brothers & sisters, Lonnie Arter, Jackie Arter, Phyllis Baron and Carolyn Kramp; grandchildren, Lee & Cameron Arter; Jenna Arter; Amber Perry, Tracy & Christopher Velarde; Joyce Smith, Bubba Smith, Steven & Jeanell Smith; Melanie Thornton, Shannon & Michael Thornton. Services were held Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Veterans Chapel in the Houston National Cemetery with Pastor Ronnie Chamberlin officiating; and full military honors conducted under the auspices of the V.F.W. District 4 Memorial Team under the direction of Carter Funearl Home.

Lillie "Marie" Wells
Lillie "Marie" Wells, 72, of Galena Park, passed away February 27, 2003 from a brief unknown heart illness. She was born August 15, 1930 near Alto, Texas to Robert & Jewel Lindsey. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Phillip Adrian Wells in 1986 and by brothers, Rayburn Lee Lindsey, George Robert Lindsey and sisters, Reba Birch and Johnie Mae Troe.
She is survived by her sons, Phillip Alan Wells of Galena Park; and Warren Earl Wells of Houston; brother, Jewel Ray "J.R." Lindsey of North Carolina; as well as grandchildren, Misty Dawn Torres, Jason Earl Wells and Naaman Adrain Wells. Services were held, Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Carter Funeral Home with Pastor James Morris officiating. She was laid to rest Monday March 3, 2003 in Houston National Cemetery.

Eddie Douglas Dietz
Eddie Douglas Dietz, 62, of Dayton, Texas, formerly of Channelview, went to be with his Lord, February 26, 2003. He was born October 15, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Gustave & Lillie Dietz. He made his living as an electrician and married Betty S. Hamrick on July 23, 1971.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Betty Dietz of Dayton; son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Delia Dietz of Mt. Belvieu, Texas; daughter, Michelle Dietz Abernathy and fiance, Danny Theriot of Huffman, Texas; brother & sister-in-law, George H. & Melba Dietz of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Stephen Abernathy, Heather Abernathy, Lauren Reeves, Katie Reeves and Kara Dietz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Mr. Jim Mullican of Channelview Church of Christ, officiating.

Charles Thomas Stobb, Sr.
Charles Thomas Stobb, Sr., 70, of Houston, passed away February 21, 2003. Mr. Stobb was born October 8, 1932 in Tilden, Texas to David J. & Callie Bell Stobb. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by wife, Lola Lee Stobb of Houston; sons, Charles T. Stobb, Jr. and wife Sharon Renea of Dayton, Texas; and David Paul Stobb of Houston; daughters & sons-in-law, Julia Lorraine & Joe L. McDonald of Missouri; Judy Marie & John Duncan of Houston; and Brenda Lee & Jerry McMann of Houston; as well as by brothers, Harry R. Stobb & wife, Mary of Victoria, Texas; David J. Stobb & wife, Ginger of Odem, Texas; and sister, Susie Boulanger & husband, Blackie of Aransas Pass, Texas; with 11 grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating with full military honors led by the American Legion Post 521 Memorial Team. Mr. Stobb will be laid to rest in Houston National Cemetery.

Eugene Russell Chambers
Eugene Russell Chambers, age 81, of Houston, passed away February 21, 2003. Mr. Chambers was born October 2, 1921 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to William H. & Nancy A. Chambers. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was self-employed as a tile subcontractor for many years until he retired. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Candice C. & Larry King of Houston; as well as grandchildren, Tara Michelle Villarreal; Jeremy R. King and Kevin B. King; and great-grandchildren, Cristian M. Villarreal; Kaylie V. King; Kamryn E. King; Karter L. King; Madeline Villarreal and Taylor Ordonez.
Services were held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating. Mr. Chambers was laid to rest in Houston National Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post 521 Memorial Team; under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jeremy King, Tom Odom, Kevin King, Steven Villarreal, Michael Odom and Carrie Odom.

John Perry Nixon, Jr.
John Perry Nixon, Jr., age 85, of Houston, passed away February 17, 2003 after a long illness. Mr. Nixon was born November 18, 1917 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania to John Perry & Emily Martha Nixon. He was a veteran of World War II with service in the U.S. Army. He made his living as a U.S. Postal Carrier retiring in 1981. He remained active as a shop steward and union representative with the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers Branch 283. He continued working for Brookfield Uniform Company until his second retirement in 1998. He was also a member of the American Legion and a member of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church as well an an avid coin collector.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty J. Lanier Nixon of Houston; sons, John P. Nixon, III and wife Sara of Houston; and Patrick Lanier and wife Melody of Houston; daughters, Judith Carpenter & husband, Lee; Janice Martin & husband, Jerry Sr. all of Houston; Jacqueline Hammond and husband, Peter of Cookson, Oklahoma; Mary Lanier and Melinda DuBose both of Houston; and Rebecca Rogers & husband David of Splendora, Texas; as well as by grandchildren, John Nixon, IV; Thomas Nixon, Nadine Nixon, Edward Nixon; Jerry & Jennifer Martin; Kathryn & Eugenia Hammond; Christopher & Kenneth Moulden, Brian & Benay DuBose and Ryan Lanier; with 5 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Holy Trinity Methodist Church officiated by Rev. W.C. Hall, Jr. Mr. Nixon was laid to rest in Resthaven Garden of Memories.

Jean Jackson Newman
Jean Jackson Newman, 68, of Houston, passed away February 14, 2003. She was born December 12, 1934 in Austin, Texas to Eugene & Wilma Luigi. She made a living in latter years as a home healthcare provider and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary V.F.W. Post 10462.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Don Luigi and granddaughter, Kimberly Michelle Jackson. She is survived by sons & daughters-in-law, Cecil & Lori Jackson of Houston, William Jackson of Houston and Daniel & Pat Jackson of Dayton, Texas; daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Lesley Odle of Deer Park; and Sherrie Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters & brothers-in-law, Jimmie Anne & Tony Rossi of Houston; Julie Moore & Daniel Vandermark of LaPorte; and Donna Hudec of Pasadena, Texas; as well as a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and countless friends.
Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Tom Carter officiating. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Thelma Jene Killough
Thelma Jene Killough, 68, of Houston, passed away February 10, 2003 after a long illness. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary V.F.W. Post 10462. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Carlton Ellis Killough of Houston; daughters, Terry Honeycutt of Houston; and Sherry Price of Highlands; sons, Carl Wesley Killough of Houston; and Charles Alan Killough & wife Wanda of Marietta, South Carolina; mother, Mattie Runer of Conroe, Texas; as well as grandchildren, Cindy Martz, Melody Hamann, Christine Houston, Dewayne Martz, John Honeycutt, Kimberly Oquinn and John Winsatt; special nephew, David Strong and wife Maryann and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held, Friday, February 14, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Galen Cooper, of Uvalde Baptist Church, officiating. She was laid to rest in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.

Marjorie Bess Smith
Marjorie Bess Smith, 66, of Channelview, passed away February 8, 2003. She was born August 21, 1936 in Hughesville, Missouri to George & Nellie Brandkamp. She had formerly been employed by Pizza Hut in Channelview for 13 years retiring in 1998.
She was preceded in death by parents and one sister, Anna Lee Hill and one brother, Joseph Brandkamp. She is survived by husband, C.D. Smith of Channelview; sisters, Gertrude"Kittie" Burton, Geraldine Bradley, of Channelview, and brothers, Charles Brandkamp, Johnny Brandkamp, Robert Brandkamp, Buck Brandkamp, and David Brandkamp; as well as two special nieces, Tammy Siddique of Channelview and Sher Colbert of Copperfield; and great nieces and nephew, Setara Siddique, Zayn Siddique and Carly Colbert.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Martha May Havens
Martha May Havens, 63, of Channelview, passed away February 8, 2003. Mrs. Havens was born September 21, 1939 in Hamilton, Texas to Joe A. and Frances Amanda Ray. She had worked as a manager for a Subway franchise in Trinity, Texas for 5 years and had worked in the North Channel area until her health worsened.
Martha was preceded in death by her father and one son, Jody Ray Havens. She is survived by a daughter, Christy Goodrow of Channelview; mother, Frances Ray of Livingston, Texas; by brother, Johnny Ray of Covington, Louisiana; and sisters, Linda Matthews of Livingston, Texas and Anease Green of Pasadena, Texas. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jammie Lou Dunklin
Jammie Lou Dunklin, 59, of Channelview, passed away February 7, 2003. She was born January 6, 1944 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to James & Louise Harvey. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Charles M. Dunklin of Channelview; daughter & son-in-law, Annette & Craig Still of Houston; sons & daughter-in-law, Michael L. & Melissa Clardy of Houston; and Jeffrey D. Clardy of Channelview; mother, Louise Bailey of Arkansas; sister, Joyce Nuggent of Gladewater, Texas; and brother, Bobby Harvey of Arkansas; as well as grandchildren, Michael L. Clardy, Jr., Nathan Clardy and Justin Still. Services were held, Sunday, February 9, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

Christine Adams
Christine Adams, age 66, of Houston, passed away February 5, 2003. She was born April 5, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her brothers & sisters, Tommy Malone, Jr., John Gears, Angie Klinkerman and Tommy Gears all from Houston, Texas; and Tammy Martin from Crosby, Texas. As well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Friday, February 7, in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery with Rev. Mike Martin officiating.

Norman Alfred Dodge
Norman Alfred Dodge, 65, of Pasadena, passed away February 4, 2003. Born Sept. 18, 1937 in Wallisville, New York, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He is survived by wife of 27 years, Wanetta M. Dodge of Pasadena; step-daughters, Trina Barnes & husband Wesley Sr. of Channelview and Melissa Hurston & husband Timothy Sr. of Houston; as well as one sister, Eleanor Cline and eight grandchildren, Wesley Barnes, Jr., Amanda Barnes, Roxanne Barnes, Albert Wilson, Michael LeClaire, Robert LeClaire, Joseph LeClaire & Timothy Hurston, Jr.
Services for Mr. Dodge was Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Brady of Woodforest Baptist Church officiating.
