James Vernon Driggers
James Vernon Driggers, 46, of Houston, passed away March 24, 2003 after a long illness. Mr. Driggers was born September 2, 1956 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Paul Jr. and Sarah Margaret Driggers. James was self- employed as a mechanic, operating Driggers Motor Rebuilding for several years. He was a veteran with service in the U.S. Marines from 1974 to 1978.
He is lovingly survived by his wife and partner Brittany Strodtman of Houston; precious daughter, Elizabeth Paige Driggers also of Houston; as well as by brother & sister-in-law, Tommy & Sally Mae Driggers of North Carolina and sister & brother-in-law, Margaret & Kevin Hagus also of North Carolina. As well as by numerous other family members and friends. Services were held in the Veterans Chapel of Houston National Cemetery Thursday, March 27 with Pastor Cecil Hudson officiating and full military honors conducted by the V.F.W. District 4 Memorial Team. Interment followed in Houston National Cemetery.

Earl Royce Hogg
Mr. Earl Royce Hogg, 59, of Channelview, passed away March 16, 2003 at his home. He was born January 19, 1944 in Lamesa, Texas to Shirdy Randolph & Eva Estelle Hogg. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as by one brother, James Hogg. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 14 years, Janice Hogg of Channelview; son, Geoffrey Hogg of Channelview; step-daughters, Sara Brantley & husband Marvin of Dallas and Amanda Ellis of Houston; brother & sister-in-law, Mike & Cyndi Hogg of Alvin, Texas; and by grandchildren, Jeremy Hogg, Samantha Hogg and Timothy Hogg; as well as by many many friends.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with brother, Pastor Mike Hogg officiating. Royce will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Calvin Samuel Fluitt
Calvin Samuel Fluitt, 79, of Houston, passed away March 14, 2003 at his home. He was born February 26, 1924 in Grayson, Louisiana to Berry Samuel & Diede Mayes Fluitt. He was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather. His love for his family and animals were well known. Mr. Fluitt served his country with the U.S. Marines during WWII. He retired from the Port of Houston Authority in 1986 after 26 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents as well as two sisters, Verlon and Gladys. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, June Fluitt of Houston; sons, David Fluitt and wife, Loretta of Florida and Calvin "Sam" Fluitt, Jr. of Louisiana; sisters, Doyce, Lela and Bonnie Jean, all of Louisiana; his wife's children, Mickey & husband Marion Ramsey; Karen & husband Jim Costello, all of Houston. As well as by grand-children, David Fluitt, Claudia Fluitt, Matthew & Sharyn Ramsey, Jimmy Coltello and Katy Hall with 2 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many other friends and family.
Services were held Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Don Gerken officiating. Mr. Fluitt was laid to rest in Pattison Cemetery, in Pattison, Texas under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank the Hospice Preferred Choice team for their care and support.

Betty Marcello Evans
Betty Marcello Evans, 68, of Channelview, passed away March 8, 2003. Mrs. Evans was born June 10, 1934 in Bluffton, Indiana to Charles Brian & Flossie Mae Tschannen. She had worked for the last 15 years with Larose Cleaners in Jacinto City. She was preceded in death by her parents and my one son, Milton Dale Holloway, Jr. She is survived by daughters & sons-in-law, Debbie Pavey and Laurence Lacheney of Channelview; Brenda Mae and Mike Jackson of Indiana; Rose & James Bendo of Dayton, Texas; and Nila & Glendon Frazee of Oklahoma; and by son & daughter-in-law, Brian Lee & Patty Holloway of Indiana; as well as by 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grand- children.
Services for Mrs. Evans were held Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel and she was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Patricia Ellis DePrima
Patricia Ellis DePrima, 60, formerly of Tomball, Texas, passed away March 3, 2003 due to a tragic automobile accident in Baytown, Texas. She was born September 21, 1942 in Houston, Texas to Ellis Charles and Adelene DePrima, Sr. She is survived by sisters & brothers-in-law, Madeline & Johnny Matthews of Channelview; and JoAnn & Pete Lippincott of Houston; and brother & sister-in-law, Ellis Jr. & Dale DePrima of Rowlett, Texas; as well as by nephews and nieces, Brandon Matthews; Spencer Lippincott & wife, Amy; Angela and Catherine Matthews and Great-Nephew, Cade Lippincott.
Services were held March 11, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bobby Powell officiating.

Ernest "Ernie" Roland Browning
Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Roland Browning, 49 of Houston, passed away March 2, 2003. Ernie was born March 29, 1953 in Richland, Texas to Robert & Kathryn Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bobbie Kay Brown. He is survived by daughters, Mary Elizabeth Browning Lilly of Plymouth, North Carolina and Stephanie Santamaria of Willis, Texas; as well as by grandchildren, Austin Lee Lilly and Victoria & Cristina Santamaria.
Memorial Services for Ernie were held Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating. He was remembered by all, as a good and loyal friend to many, who will be deeply missed.

J.O. Todd
J.O. Todd, 66, of Houston, passed away April 23, 2003 after a long illness. Mr. Todd was born March 22, 1937 in Greenville, North Carolina to Daniel Eason & Clara Bell Todd. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley Todd of Houston; one son, Steven O. Todd of Warsaw, North Carolina; brothers & sisters-in-law, D.E. & Shala Todd, Charles Ree & Virginia Todd and Tommy & Elaine Todd, all of North Carolina; sister & brother-in-law, Rebecca & Joe Allen Edwards, also of North Carolina; as well as by grandchildren, Nicholas Todd, Steven Ryan Todd, and Christina Denise Todd.
Private memorial services were held Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Warsaw, with entombment services held Monday,May 5, in Devotional Gardens Cemetery, Warsaw, North Carolina.

Rev. John Allen Walters
Rev. John Allen Walters, 75, of Columbus, Texas, formerly of the North Channel area, went to be with his Lord April 21, 2003. John was born Dec. 24, 1927 in Goodrich, Texas to George Tilmon and Maud Walters. He retired from Armco Steel after 27 years where he worked as a production planner. He served the Lord in the ministry for 50 years. During his ministry he served at Kentshire Congregational Methodist, New Caney Congregational Methodist, Cloverleaf Congregational Methodist, McKnight Congregational Methodist, Spears Chapel and Pasadena Congregational Methodist to name a few and was still active with Columbus Southern Congregational Methodist in Columbus, Texas.
Rev. Walters was preceded in death by his parents and by six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Walters of Columbus, Texas; sons & daughters-in-law, Danny & Mary Jo Walters of Houston; Kenneth & Kay Walters of Doha, Qatar; Allen & Rhonda Walters of Weimer, Texas; daughters & sons-in-law, Martha & Herman Humphries of Pineville, Louisiana; Georgene Neece of Columbus, Texas; and Valanda "Tootsie" & Duane Dann of Channelview; sisters & brother-in- law, Lavina Ray and Pauline & Wilber Hornberger all of Hemphill, Texas; as well as by grandchildren, Teresa Ann & Lesa Marie Cordell; Fred Neece; Dani Cathleen & Kimberly Jo Walters; Kenda Renee & Kayla Lynn Walters; and Lyndsey Nicole & Chelsea Lynn Walters.
A celebration of Rev. Walters life was held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Melvin Smith and Mr. Charles Martin officiating. He was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Danny Jarrell, Larry Jarrell, Phillip Jarrell, Brad Noble, Bill Smithson, John Payne, Earl Walters, Howard Walters, Blake Walters, Richard Walters and Tim Jarrell. James Dennis Abney
Mr. James Dennis Abney, 88, of Houston, passed away April 17, 2003. Mr. Abney was born October 17, 1914 in DeWitt, Arkansas to William James and Vir Vivian Abney. He was preceded in death by his wife Jewell Stalcup Abney in May of 2002. He is survived by one sister, Eva Marie Hill of Tacoma, Washington; and two nieces, Jewel Parker and husband Joe of Houston; and Tina Hjalseth Wilmuth of Tacoma, Washington.
A visitation was held Saturday, April 19 at Carter Funeral Home. Mr. Abney was laid to rest Wednesday, April 23, at Brookside Cemetery.

Benny Carl Bagwell
Benny Carl Bagwell, 67, of Jacinto City, passed away suddenly April 12, 2003. He was born March 13, 1936 in Frederick, Oklahoma to the late Raymond Madison and Mattie Zoe (Woodall) Bagwell. He lived in Frederick until moving to Houston in 1987. He owned and operated Bagwell Trucking Company.
He is survived by two daughters & sons-in law, Tanna & Don Dugan of Grapevine, Texas and Kim and Andy Hodges of Woodward, Oklahoma; brother & sister-in-law, Bill and Barbara Bagwell of Frederick, OK; six grandchildren, Branden & Trent Ballard, Keaton Dugan, Jada, Jaci and Braden Hodges; nephew, Bobby Bagwell and wife Carol Lynn; as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Memorial services were held April 15, 2003 in his home town of Frederick, Oklahoma and will be laid to rest in Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

Maurine Baker
Mrs. Maurine Baker, 67, of Jacinto City, went to be with her Lord April, 10, 2003. She was born April 20, 1935 in Ashland, Alabama to William Lee and Beatrice Watts Gortney. She was preceded in death by her husband Ulyssus Grant Baker in 1998. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James & Nancy Baker of Houston; Denny Baker of Houston; and Willie & Vickie Baker of DeerPark; sister, Vida Patterson of Sylacauga, Alabama; as well as grandchildren, William Lee Baker, Ashley Nicole Baker, Justin Andrew Baker, Jessica Diane Baker and Grant Joseph Baker; great-grand- children, Destiny and Alexis Perez.
Services were held Monday, April. 14, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Virgil Brown officiating. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Patterson, Randy Patterson, Scotty Patterson, Yancey Patterson, William Baker and Rossie Osbourn.

Charles Bradley Lynch
Mr. Charles Bradley Lynch, 31, of Houston, passed away April 3, 2003. He was born August 10, 1971 in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Lynch Smith. He is survived by his father Alvin J. Smith, Jr.; son, Charles Bradley Lynch, Jr.; daughters, Kristie Lynn Lynch & Ashley Kay Lynch; by ex-wife, Sonja Lynch; brothers, Alvin J. Smith, III and Eric Von Smith; sisters, Margo C. Smith and Loraine J. Smith.
Memorial Services were held Saturday, April 12, 2003 at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Hurst officiating.

Jackie Lloyd McCornick
Jackie Lloyd McCornick, 55, of Beaumont, passed away May 16, 2003. He was born Feb. 17, 1948 in Buna, Texas to Charlie & Pauline McCormick. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline in 1997 and by two brothers, twin brother, Bobby McCormick in 2001 and Euless Moore in 1991.
He is survived by daughters, Melody Ann Atkins and Cherokee Nicole McCormick & husband, David Fuller; father, Charlie McCormick; brothers, Doyle Moore, Jerry Moore and Bill Moore and sister, Marilyn Neece & her husband, Jerry; as well as by grandchildren, Lidia Gail Fuller; Cody Cheyene Jackson; and Savannah Jean Fuller.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. May 20, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Johnny Brady officiating. Mr. McCormick will be privately laid to rest in Antioch Cemetery in Buna, Texas.

Jewel Myers
Jewel Myers, 81, of Houston, passed away May 13, 2003. She was born December 12, 1921 in Jackson, Mississippi to Robert Millard & Edith Donahoo Simmons. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Kay Putnam in 1995. She is survived by three sons, Glenn R. Myers, and Earl Wayne Myers both of Houston and Chester Carl Myers, Jr. of Friendswood, Texas. As well as by nine grandchildren and 16 great-grand- children.
Graveside services were held Friday, May 16, 2003 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Plunk officiating.

Matthew Jacob Hollomon
Matthew Jacob Hollomon, 21, of Houston, died May 12, 2003. He was born Sept. 6, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Richard Victor Hollomon and Jimmie Dale Smith. He is survived by parents Jimmie D. Leone of Houston; Richard & Kathleen Hollomon of Channelview; six brothers, Kenneth Hamilton of Houston; Patrick King of Austin; Harley Hollomon of Dayton; Zackery King of Austin; Steven Hollomon and William Hollomon both of Channelview. As well as by grandparents, June Smith of Houston and Walter Hollomon also of Houston; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services celebrating Matthews life were held Friday, May 16, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Yancy officiat- ing. He was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Shawn Young, Tommy Foulk, John Mixon, Russel Chandler, Ray Wood, Charles Heagan, Brian Statum, Clint Hill, Cody Grimet, Garland Smith and Andy Wehmeyer.

Shirley Ann McMullin
Shirley Ann McMullin, 65, of Channelview, passed away June 30, 2003. Mrs. McMullin was born November 6, 1937 in Betsy Layne, Kentucky. She was a member of Glendale Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rufus McMullin in 1991. She is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Dallas L. & Darlene McMullin of Dawsonville, Georgia; daughters & sons-in-law, Donna & Mike Brown of Lincoln, Missouri; Tammy McMullin and Lovonda McMullin and husband Jeff, all of Channelview; as well as by sister, Faye Wilson of Kentucky and 9 grand- children and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at graveside Thursday, July 3, 2003 in San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Estella Rendon
Estella Rendon, 73, of Houston, passed away June 29, 2003. She was born October 1, 1929 in Runge, Texas to Lasaro & Manuella Mendoza. She married Calistro Rendon March 23, 1946. She was preceded in death by sons, Joe Rendon, Juan Rendon, David Rendon and Manuel Rendon and daughters, baby Olga Rendon and Paula Rodriguez. She is survived by husband of 57 years, Calistro Rendon; children, Jesse Rendon, Julio Rendon, Abel Rendon, Calistro Rendon, Jr., Eloy Rendon, Adelina Garza, Emma Ruiz, Yolanda Cavan and Josefina Brawner; sisters & brothers, Reyes Mendoza, Andrea Garza, Alejandro Mendoza, Reynaldo Mendoza, Madelino Mendoza, Eloise Villanueva, Luisa Garzez, Jesus Mendoza and Adela Rodriguez; as well as by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 2, at Carter Funeral Chapel with Father Chacko Puthumayil as officiant She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Connie Joyce Schumacker
Connie Joyce Schumacker, 47, of Channelview, passed away June 25, 2003. Born October 17, 1955 in Houston to Ira D. & Nina Maxine Jordan. She was preceded in death by both parents, and by one brother, Billy Ray Jordan in 2001. She is survived by daughters & sons-in-law, Amanda & Jeffery Leeth of Channelview and Norma & Kevin Miller, Sr. of Center, Texas. By sister, Ella Kearns; and brothers, Scott Jordan, George Jordan, Ira D. Jordan, III, Michael Jordan, Dwayne Jordan and Douglas Jordan; as well as by grandchildren, Shelby Schumacker, Julie Schumacker, Justin Schumacker, Kevin Miller, Jr. and Christopher Miller.
Services were held Monday, June 30, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Whitmire officiating. She was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park under the direction of Carter Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Scott Jordan, Michael Jordan, George Jordan, Dwayne Jordan, Darrel Roeben & Douglas Jordan.

Bill Johnson
Bill Johnson went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2003. His wife, Margaret, the love of his life for 48 years, survives him. Also surviving Bill was his sons, Bill Johnson, Jr., wife Tammie & children Addison and Mikayla; and son Darrel Johnson, wife Dena & children Katrena and Omar; and daughter Sheri Jenkins, husband Tod & children Tara and Tiffany; He was preceded in death by his son Mark Scott Johnson who died at the tender age of 18, as well as his infant grandson, Dalton Johnson.
Bill's family also included numerous special relatives and friends. Bill's life spanned 75 wonderful years. From his career at Atlantic Richfield Refinery to the Boy Scouts of America, and later on to walking the sidelines at the grandchildren's sporting events. Bill never met a stranger. Bill was a very special man who will be greatly missed. He was blessed to see his kids grow into successful adults and to see his six special angels excel in everything they participated in.
Services to remember Bill were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Rick Burns officiating. He was laid to rest in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
