Alma Brooks, 99, of 26 Agnes Dr. Manchester,
a former Torrington resident, died Monday Feb. 7, 2005 at Crestfield Rehabilitation Center in Manchester. She was the wife of 54 years of the late Frederick Brooks. Born in Torrington daughter of the late Frank and Tekla (Maria) Anderson,she was raised by her aunt Olivia Larson, moving to Manchester in 1955. She was employed by Tweed Store and D&L in Manchester.
An active member of the Winchester Grange, she was also involved with the Grange on the State level. She was the originator of the Rose Drill of the State Session of the Grange, and was involved for over 50 years. She also served as Lecturer for many years for the Grange. She was a member of their Student Loan Committee, and also served in Grange Building Connecticut Room at The Big E for many years, and was involved in keeping the artifacts.
She was also a member of The United South Methodist Church in Manchester.
She is survived by her grandson, Glenn Lelkes of Torrington and a great granddaughter, Amber Lelkes, and many dear friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her son, Frederick Brooks Jr. and her daughter Eleanor Lelkes.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11 AM at The First United Methodist Church 21 Fern Dr. Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.

Corrine White, 90, formerly of Koury Terrace Torrington
died Monday Feb. 7, 2005 at Adam's House. Born in Rock City Wyoming Nov 1, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Josephine (Gersinger) Walton, and was a long time Torrington resident. She was one of the original members of Saint Francis Women's Club.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Preston and her husband John of West Cornwall and five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son John "Jack " White.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday Feb 10 at 10:30 at Saint Francis Church in Torrington. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery.

Barbara Filosi, 93, of 54 Donahue St. Torrington
died Saturday Feb. 5, 2005. She was the wife of the late Marino Filosi. Born June 30, 1911 in Praso Trento Italy, she moved to Torrington in 1948. She was a professional knitting machine operator in Italy before coming to this country.
She is survived by two daughters, Neves Filosi and Rose DeMaria of Torrington, and a grandson Paul A. DeMaria. She also leaves a sister in Italy, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson Gary J. DeMaria.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 at Saint Peter's Church. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

Margaret Dubiell Nevin, 92 of Winthrop St Torrington
Margaret Dubiell Nevin, 92 of Winthrop St Torrington died Wednesday May 25 after a short illness. She was the wife of 45 years of the late Gordon Nevin. Born in Newark NJ daughter of the late Peter and Rose Dubiell, she moved to New Hartford, Torrington area 75 years ago. She retired after 31 years of service at The Torrington Company.
After retiring, she was active with arts and crafts and oil painting. She was best remembered for her 27 years of singing and guitar playing at local nursing homes, and was a member of The Silver Belles and Beaus.
She was President of The Senior Citizens of New Hartford for 10 years, and was one of the founders of their senior center. She was a Director of The Historical Society in New Hartford.
She is survived by her daughter Janet M. Thrall of Waterbury and a son Gordon "Skip" Nevin of West Palm Beach FL, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday May 28 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in New Hartford. Burial will follow at Goshen Center Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington on Saturday prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.

Anna Nevin, 97, formerly of West St. Goshen
died Sunday Aug 21 in Bend, OR. She was the wife of the late William A. Nevin. Born in Torrington April 4, 1908 daughter of the late Clarence and Annie (Dwan) Risley, she was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mfg Co., The Torrington Company, and Union Hardware, retiring in 1961.
She was a volunteer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for many years and also was a volunteer for The Red Cross Blood Mobile for over 20 years.
She is survived by her son, Donald Nevin and his wife Sharon of Bend, OR. and a daughter Doris Poley and her husband Alan of Goshen, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services with burial at Goshen Center Cemetery are at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Saint Thomas Church.

Giovanni (John) C. Demo
died on February 8 at the age of 92 with his loving daughters by his side. He was the devoted husband for 67 years of the late Dora A. Demo. Mr. Demo was the son of the late Domenico Demo and Giovanna Fraccaro.
Mr. Demo leaves two daughters, Janet M. Demo and Mary C. (Tina) Demo and a son, John A. Demo, three grandchildren, a brother, Silvio Demo and a sister, Renata Chiesa both of Belvedere di Tezze, Italy, sisters-in-law Mary Beyus, Yolanda Arezzini, Beatrice Andrighetti and Mary Andrighetti, along with many nieces and nephews in the United States and Italy. He was predeceased by his brothers Pietro, Antonio, Massimiliano, Domenico, Tarcisio, and sisters Maria, Agnese, Marcella and Cesira, all of Italy.
Mr. Demo was born on February 15, 1913 in Bassano del Grappa, Province of Vicenza, Italy, and emigrated to the United States in 1937 after serving in the Italian Army. He and Dora settled in western Pennsylvania before relocating to Torrington, Connecticut in 1940. The family moved to the Bakerville section of New Hartford in 1956 where they maintained a small farm with livestock and vegetable and flower gardens.
Following his retirement from the Torrington Company, Mr. Demo enjoyed gardening, pruning his grape vines, listening to opera, producing an excellent red wine and visiting his family in Italy.
The funeral service is private and at the convenience of the family. Phalen Funeral Home of Torrington is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph College Scholarship Fund, 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117.

Imre Horvath, 65, of 25 Jardon St Torrington
died Sunday Feb. 5, 2006 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rozsa (Dudas) Horvath. Born in Hungary Oct 22, 1940 son of the late Gyula and Rozaria Horvath, he was a Torrington resident since 1994, and was a former employee of The Turner and Seymour Mfg. Co. He loved to play lotto.
He is survived by sons Imre Horvath of Torrington, Jozsef Horvath of Vancouver Canada, and Gyula Horvath of Hungary and daughters Rozsa Herczeg of Torrington, Monika Horvath of New Britain, and Ildiko Horvath of Hungary, 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother and 2 sisters in Hungary.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Feb. 8 at 10:00 AM at the Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:00 AM.

Hildegard (Aust) Forsberg, 93, of 364 Brightwood Ave. Torrington
died Thursday Jan 26, 2006 at Wolcott Hall. She was the wife of the late Erland Forsberg. Born in Torrington March 9, 1912 she retired after working for The Southern New England Telephone Company for 44 years.
She was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church where she volunteered for many years in their sewing group making lap blankets for the ill. She also volunteered for The American Red Cross Blood Banks, and she was a member of The Telephone Pioneers.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Forsberg and Paul Forsberg of Torrington and a daughter Margaret (Peggy) Forsberg of Burlington, a grandson Jeremy Forsberg, of Burlington and 2 great grandsons,Jordan and Ethan Forsberg, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday Jan 30 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church.

Susannah E. Curi, 62, of Goshen
died Tuesday Feb. 1, 2005 at her home. She was the wife of Dr. Joseph F.J. Curi. She was born in New Orleans, LA, April 5, 1942 daughter of the late Dr. Robert and Anne (Evans) English. Mrs. Curi was raised in Henderson KY and graduated from Vassar College in 1964. She worked as a Case-Worker for The Department of Welfare in New York City.
She was an active volunteer for three decades in Goshen. She served on the Personal Policy (Overseer) Board, The Town Recreation Committee, and was Chairperson of The Republican Town Committee. She also enjoyed nature, tennis, and reading.
In addition to her husband of 39 years, she is survived by three daughters, Anne Preisig and her husband Dr. James Preisig of Falmouth MA, Sarah Duby and her husband Marc of Watertown MA, and Katheryn Curi of Danville CA, and a son Dr. Michael Curi and his wife Dr. Jessica Magda of Torrington and a granddaughter Clara Preisig. She also leaves a sister, Maryanne Benjamin of New York, NY.
There are no calling hours, a family gathering is planned in the future.

June NeJaime, 76, of 205 Albert Street Torrington
died Monday Jan. 31 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of Edward N. NeJaime. Born April 30 1928 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George and Adele (Nichols) Andrews.
She was formerly employed as a telephone operator, and later worked with her husband at The Valley Park Supermarket in Torrington and Birge Park Market in Harwinton.
She was a dedicated mother who loved children, and was active with PTA at Southwest School. She was a member of Saint Maron's Church Women's Guild and Maaser El Chouf.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Edward " Buddy" NeJaime of Torrington and two daughters, Michele Barry and her husband Mark of Houston TX, and Kimberley Lewis and her husband David of Mermaid Beach Australia, and grandchildren Caitlin, Ryan, and Timothy Barry and Hayden, Sean, and Marc Lewis. She also leaves a brother Richard Andrews of Winsted and a sister Betty Eckwall of Pougheepsie NY. She was predeceased by a son Charles NeJaime.

Herbert A. Bishop, 85, of Torrington
died Friday Jan. 28 at Haven Heallth Center. He was born in Torrington March 19, 1919 son of the late Lewis E. and Ada (Newport) Bishop, and was a life long Torrington resident. He served in The US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
He was an avid Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a Scoutmaster for many years. He loved photography and took many prize winning pictures.
He is survived by a nephew and nieces including Linda Needham, Susan DeDeo, Cynthia Douchette, Deborah Brunelle and Keith Bishop, 15 grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Richard Bishop.

Wayne Terry Bishop, 68, of 80 Cemetery Road Harwinton
died unexpectedly Tuesday May 3 at his home. He was born December 12, 1936 in Torrington son of the late Arthur and Marion (Terry) Bishop. He was a graduate of Torrington High School.
He was employed by The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation in Wethersfield for 39 years.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Greenwoods Country Club.
He is survived by his brother, Russell Bishop and his wife Marjorie of Harwinton and two nieces, Kim McDermott and her husband Marc of Chicago IL and Mary Clancey of Torrington. He also leaves a great niece Siobhain Erin Craemer and her husband Thomas of Torrington and their daughter Kylee, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Private Services with burial at East Cemetery in Harwinton will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions can be made to The Dick's Restaurant Scholarship Fund 26 East Main St Torrington CT 06790.

Marjorie 'Marge" Bishop, 76, of 146 Davis Rd Harwinton
died May 10 2005 after a long illness. She was the wife of Russell Bishop. Born in Pittsfield Mass. Oct 28, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nellie (Nugai) MacDowall.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter Kimberly McDermott and her husband Marc and their children Mia and Morgan, a daughter in law Mary Clancey of Torrington and a granddaughter Siobhain Craemer and her husband Thomas and their child Kylee. She also leaves a sister Marylou MacDowall of Pittsfield MA. She was predeceased by her son Michael McGill.

James Muckle, 67, of 140 Whitbeck Rd New Hartford
died Tuesday May 10 at The Veteran's Hospital in West Haven. Born in Torrington April 14, 1938 he was he son of the late Edward and Susan (Kowalsky) Muckle and was a Veteran of The Korean Conflict. He was retired from O&G Industries and had also worked at Lane Construction.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed antiques and antique cars.
He is survived by two daughters, Lonee Johnson and her husband David and Bonnie Muckle of Winsted. He also leaves four brothers and three sisters: Edward Muckle and his wife Josephine of Terryville, John Muckle and his wife June of Prospect, William Muckle and his wife Mary and Joseph Muckle and his wife Sandra of New Hartford, Elsie Borowy and her husband Henry of Torrington, Dorothy Crandall of New Hartford, and Mary Wilhelm and her husband Paul of Coventry. He was predeceased by a sister Susan Bakunis.

Helen Poniatoski, 89, of 254 Torringford West Street Torrington
died May 29, 2005 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Fred Poniatoski. Born in Torrington April 20, 1916 daughter of the late Vincent and Wanda (Kulesza) Swierczewski, she was a life long Torrington resident and a Communicant of Saint Mary's Church.
She is survived by her granddaughter Sherrie Poniatoski and her great grandson Marcus Poniatoski and a sister Tessie Ohotnicky, all of Torrington. She was predecease by her son, Thomas Poniatoski.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday June 9 at 10:45 at Saint Peter Cemetery in Torrington. Phalen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Douglas J. Owens, Sr. 36, of 243 Westside Rd Torrington
died June 1, 2005. Born in Torrington Oct 31, 1968 son of Duel and Donna (Sugerak) Owens of Torrington, he was a graduate of OWTS class of 1986. He was a member of the National Honor Society and also recipient of The Electrical Shop Award at OWTS and was in Who's Who of America. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed cooking.
He was employed by Select Energy in Bristol and had been employed by Semac Electric.
In addition to his parents, he leaves his children Douglas J Owens Jr of Torrington and Sarah Ashley Owens and Bethany Owens of Warren, and his companion Cheryl Nivolo of Torrington. He also leaves brothers Duel Owens Jr of Vinton VA and David Owens of Harwinton, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

William H. Miller, 76, of 195 Torringford St
died May 28, 2005 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of 31 years of Margaret (Pont) Miller. Born in Torrington November 18, 1928 son of the late Simon and Mabel (Newkirk) Miller, he was a Torrington High School graduate, Class of 1946. He lived in the Torrington, Winchester, Norfolk area all of his life.
He was employed by The Southern New England Telephone Company for over 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Torrington
As a young man, he performed as a drummer in local orchestras and later entertained at family gatherings with the harmonica. He enjoyed painting nature scenes in watercolor and took pride in working on home projects.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, and hunter. He was an accomplished fly fisherman who tied his own flies and was known and respected for his knowledge of wildlife and nature. He was Past President of The Torrington Fish and Game Club and The Norfolk Trout Club. He enjoyed gardening, camping, boating,, and family gatherings. As a young man, he performed as a drummer in local orchestras and played the harmonica. He also enjoyed painting nature scenes in watercolor and took pride in working on home projects.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and two daughters, William A. Miller and his wife Linda of Winchester, Susan Seaback and her husband Michael of New Hartford, and Patricia Rocco and her husband Peter of Barkhamsted, and six grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Bette McLeod and her husband Richard of Torrington and several loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Muriel Lyford, 81, formerly of 52 Summer St Torrington
died Tuesday Jan 25 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert Lyford. Born in Springfield MA, April 14, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Tatro) Atkinson.
She was a former employee of Howard's Shoe Store, The Yankee Pedlar, and Dee and Joanne's Restaurant. She later was a nanny for the Donne children in Litchfield.
She is survived by a daughter, Denise Grammatica and her husband Daniel and a son Roger Adams and his wife Marilyn of Torrington, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Lillian Rorhback Whaley of Vero Beach FL and Phyllis Northrup of Fort Meyers FL.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday Jan. 31 at 10 AM at Saint Maron's Church.

Lorraine A. (Viellette) Winegar, 78, of 57 Dings Road New Hartford
died Tuesday January 25 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl E. Winegar. Born in Meriden, July 15, 1926 daughter of the late Edward and Celia Viellette, she was a volunteer school teacher at Saint Peter's School for many years. She was also a volunteer at Torrington YMCA.
She is survived by her sons, Ward Winegar and his wife Mary, Kim Winegar and his wife Arlene of Torrington, Drew Winegar and his wife Roxanne of Nashwauk, MN, and Jay Winegar of New Hartford, and daughters Earlene Boden and Lois Melaragno and her husband Giuseppe of Torrington and Tracy Polinsky and her husband Mark of Harwinton. She also leaves her sister Valma Soltis of Torrington and 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Aldie Viellette and a sister Jeanette Peveri.
Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan 28 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington to Saint Peter's Church for a Mass at 10:30.
