Richard L. Morgan, 74, of Ellington CT
died Wed. April 30 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and six children. He was the husband of Frances Hall.
Born in Torrington Aug 28, 1928 son of the late William Lester and Sara(Hamilton) Morgan, he was employed by The Torrington Company for much of his earlier career as General Manager of The Swagging Division. He was later employed in various executive sales positions with numerous national and international machine tool companies
He was a Mason and a member of the Seneca Lodge in Torrington.
He maintained his sense of humor and wit to the end, and in addition to his family, he loved photography and travel.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his six children and their families(16 grandchildren); Sally Reis Renzulli and her husband Joseph of Manchester Center, and their children Sara and Liza Renzulli; Jane and Jack Wiggin of Westwood MA and their children Katherine, Jack, and Kara Wiggin; Richard L and Peggy Morgan of New Hartford and their children Sam. Andrew and Elena Morgan; John and Venetia Morgan of Stevenson Ranch, CA and their children Jamee, Ellen, and John Morgan; Kristina Morgan and Scott Fazzina of Storrs and their children Ana and William Fazzina; Elizabeth and William Keyt of Manchester and their children Morgan, Taylor, and Meredith Keyt. He also leaves two stepdaughters Shirley Hall and Diane Lavoie and her husband Patrick of Manchester and their children Devin and Megan Lavoie. He also leaves his former wife, Letitia Neag Morgan of Torrington and a sister Barbara Schutz and her husband Eugene of Torrington, and many nieces and nephews located throughout the United States. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Emily Letitia Morgan and a sister Janet Fisher.

Maria Bawol, 74, of 24 Lawn St. Torrington
died Tuesday June 24 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Leopold Bawol. Born in Poland June 28, 1928 daughter of the late Peter and Maria Gawlik, she came to this country and became a citizen in 1978.
She was retired from The Torrington Company. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was a communicant of Saint Mary's Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jesse Bawol and his fiance Katarzyna Kowalska(her care givers) of Torrington and Leopold Bawol and his wife Grace of Northfield and a daughter Alicia Piwowarczyk and her husband Stanley of Torrington, 7 grandchildren and a great grandson. She was predeceased by a brother in Europe.

Irene C. Brennan, 74, of 356 Torringford St Torrington
died Thursday June 19 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of Leo F. Brennan. Born in Torrington Aug. 18, 1928, she was the daughter of Anna (Blazek) Carey of Torrington and the late John F. Carey.
She was a bookkeeper in Torrington for many years, working for T & M Building, Ducci Appliance, RJB Contractors, and most recently for Brian's World of Herbs.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two sons, Leo F Brennan Jr. of Avon and Alan Brennan of Litchfield, and two daughters, Nancy Lindsay of Millbrook NY and Diane O'Connell of Concord MA, 8 grandchildren and a brother John F Carey Jr of Naugatuck and a sister Frances Evangelisti of Goshen, several nieces and nephews.

Reynold O. Johnson, 73, of 18 Wildwood Rd Torrington, CT
died Thursday June 19 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Carmen (Carrier) Johnson. Born in Barre Vt Sept 6, 1929 son of the late Elmer Herbert and Winona (Griffith) Johnson, he was a graduate of Lake Champlain Business College. He served in The US Navy during The Korean Conflict.
He operated Johnson's Bakery in Barre prior to moving to Torrington in 1968.
He was employed by The State of Connecticut Department of Labor until his retirement in 1991 as a hour and wage investigator. After his retirement, he was associated with his son Kurt in his food concession business.
He was a member of The Disabled American Veterans, a former member of The American Legion in Barre, and a former member of Torrington Elks Lodge, and a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Harwinton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Derek Johnson and his wife Diane of Johnson City, TN, Kurt Johnson and his wife Pinky of New Hartford, CT, and two daughters, Aleta Johnson-Higgins and her husband Ron of Largo, FL and Tarrie Marhefsky and her husband Steven of Torrington. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, Shane, Korey, and Brooke Johnson and Sydney Marhefsky.
He also leaves three brothers, Herbert O Johnson, Jr of Waltham, MA and Larry and Richard Johnson both of Barre, and a sister Marilyn Matte of Hernando FL.

William M. Chase Sr. 58, of 118 Beechwood Ave. Torrington
died Saturday Nov 15 at Rose Haven LTD in Litchfield. He was the husband of the late Georgia (Stewart) Chase. Born in Kent Oct. 2, 1945 son of the late Stanley B. and Martha (Glass) Chase, he was raised in Kent prior to moving to Torrington. He worked for Amtrak for 28 years as a Track Foreman. He receive an award for completion for the ACELA (Bullet Train) track line from Boston to New York.
He was an avid pool player and a member of The Amateur Pool Players Assoc. He also played 9-5 card games and tournaments. He was a member of The Sokol Club and The Veneta Society.
He is survived by two sons, William M Chase and Michael Chase of Torrington and two daughters, Jennifer Stevich of Norwich and Melissa Chase of Torrington. He also leaves three sisters, Linda Marks-Scappini of Torrington, Patricia Johnson of Celina Tx, and Priscilla Rumble of Phoenix AZ, and a brother Wheaton Chase and sister in law Rebecca Chase of Vandemere NC, 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Michael Malanca, 50 of Billerica MA
died Saturday Nov 8 at The Lahey Clinic in Mass.
He was the husband of Elena (Isaeza) Malanca. Born in Torrington, Nov 3, 1953 son of Amerigo and Mary (Kufchak) Malanca of Torrington, he was a graduate of Torrington High Class of 1971 and also The Worcester Poly Tech. He was employed as a head engineer in telecommunications. He was an accomplished musician and rifleman.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son Andrew Malanca and a daughter Samantha Voit of Greenville NH and a step daughter Lorisa Isaeza. He also leaves a grandson.

Julius O. Gemelli, 89, of 37 Wolcott Ave Torrington
died Wednesday Nov 5 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital as a result of ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease) He was the husband of 66 years of Florence (Turina) Gemelli. Born in Ashley Falls MA Nov. 4, 1914 son of the late Julio and Ester (Salice) Gemelli. His family moved to Torrington in 1915 and where he lived all of his life. A prominent member of the athletic community, he played baseball, basketball, and football at Torrington High School and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He continued playing ball for a variety of local semi-professional teams. He was active in The Torrington Little League, coaching for 25 years. Following his retirement from Allied Grocers after 37 years, Julius took up golf and became an active member of The Retiree's Golf League at Eastwood Country Club. He served as league commissioner for a number of years. He was also an accomplished pool player and duckpin bowler.
He loved poetry, and often wrote poems for special events and for his friends.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Maj. Glenn Gemelli USAF retired, of McCall Idaho, Wayne Gemelli of New Hartford, and Neal Gemelli of Torrington and a daughters Dale Farnhman of Pomfret CT. He also leaves a sister Enes Warmington of Stafford Springs, and 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Isabella Beecher,89 of Torrington
died Monday March 1 in Farmington. She was the wife of the late Donald Beecher. Born in Torrington May 18, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Barnes) O'Heron. She was a life long Torrington resident and had also lived at The Village Gate in Farmington. She was formerly employed at Sears-Roebuck in Torrington and at The Torrington Creamery, and later was retired from Connecticut General Life Insurance.
She was active with Torrington Civic Players and The Torrington Community Theater, and was a volunteer at The Sullivan Senior Center, Literacy Volunteers of America and was a 50 year member of The Winchester Grange, and she was a lifelong member of Saint Francis Church.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Beecher and his wife Patricia of West Goshen and D. Wayne Beecher and his wife Noreen of Syracuse NY, and three daughters, Donna Zuffelato and her husband Robert of Westerly RI, Margaret Beecher-Hlavacek and her husband James of Torrington, and Debra Pasquale and her husband Peter of Farmington, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Frank J. Faita, Jr. 56, of 137 Meadowview Dr Torrington
died Sunday Feb. 29 at his home following a long illness. He was the husband of Patricia (Gray ) Faita. Born in Torrington Nov. 14, 1947 son of Nevina Taylor of Windsor Locks and the late Frank J. Faita Sr., he was a graduate of Torrington High Class of 1966. He was a US Marine Corp Veteran serving in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His passion for cars led him to a career in automotive repair and eventually to his employment with Allstate Insurance for 27 years.
In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves a son Frank J. Faita III and daughter Nicole Stevens and her husband John, and grandchildren Bethany, Emily, and Richard, all of Torrington and a sister Sharon Faita Maziarz of Torrington and step father William Taylor of Windsor Locks, several nieces and nephews.

Owen J. "Scotty" Quinn, 79, of 23 Spruce Dr Torrington
retired Captain of Torrington Fire Dept. died Monday March 1 at his home. He was the husband of 52 years of Rosemary (Conforti) Quinn. Born in Glasgow Scotland April 21, 1924, he was the son of the late William and Bridget (McGuire) Quinn. They migrated to The US and Torrington in 1928. He attended Torrington Schools and joined The US Navy in 1942 and saw duty in The South Atlantic on convoy duty and transferred to The Pacific Theater on a Patrol Craft. He was discharged in 1946, receiving Navy and Marine Presidential Unit Citation The Philippine Freedom Medal and The American Campaign Medal.
He was a Captain in The Torrington Fire Dept., serving for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of The VFW, The Patrol Craft Association, and was a 50 year member of The Sons of Italy. He was also a member of The Hibernians Vision 1 Monsignior Division, and was a Communicant of Saint Francis Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Torrington Mayor Owen J. Quinn and his wife Ellen, and daughters Rosemary Lovallo and her husband Daniel and Bridget Fallon and her husband David and six grandchildren. He also leaves 3 sisters, Jetta Quinn of Niantic, Christine Griffin of Waterbury, and Kathleen Kos of Torrington and an aunt Nora Quinn of Torrington, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Timothy Quinn and a sister Patricia Quinn.

Randel J. Schmidt, 60, of Neidt Rd Ext. in Harwinton
died Friday Sept. 24 at Haven Health Care in Torrington after a 15 year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
He was born in Torrington July 24, 1944 son of the late Henry J and Adele (Rosenbeck) Schmidt. He was a Harwinton resident for the past 3 years, moving from Virginia. He was a self employed carpenter, and a guitar player and singer of Country-Western music.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeannine Luhrs and her husband Brian of Charlotte NC, and Denise Adam and her husband Jeffrey of Port Washington NY and grandchildren Adam and Eric Luhrs and Ariel Adam.
He also leaves a brother William Schmidt of Harwinton and three sisters Beverly Brochu of Torrington, Virginia Mombourquette of Woodbridge VA, and Kathy MacDonald of New Britain, as well as two former wives, Diane Kosko and Beatrice Wilcox. He was predeceased by an infant son Jamie Schmidt.

Asa E. Hall, 61, of Litchfield
beloved husband of Sharon (Arnold) Hall for 38 years, died Tuesday September 21, 2004 at Hartford Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born November 9, 1942 son of the late Asa D. and L. Elizabeth (Kaufmann) Hall and lived in Litchfield all of his life. Asa had a lifelong interest in wheeled transportation and its history, specifically that of horse drawn vehicles, motor cars and trucks, agricultural equipment, and railroads. His collection of antique vehicles included three horse drawn vehicles, thirteen farm tractors, and thirty-six motorized antique cars and trucks. He also held membership in over twenty organizations representing the above mentioned types of transportation and transportation history. He was co-author of the hard cover book THE STUDEBAKER CENTURY which went through five printings over a period of twelve years. Additionally, he authored numerous articles on Studebaker history. He served on The Board of Directors of six national and international organizations dealing with the history of transportation, one of which he founded.
During the Vietnam Period, Asa served as a medic in the US Navy. For the first fifteen years of his business career he was a Radiologic Technologist at Hartford Hospital, serving as chief Radiologic Technologist from 1973-1977. Since 1978 he has been with Hoffman Enterprises, serving as Director of Fleet Services for 12 years. He has been a volunteer fireman for over thirty-five years. He joined the Masonic Lodge forty-one years ago and was a 32nd Degree Mason, and member of The Shriners Organization. He also served on The Board of Trustees of The Railroad Museum of New England for the past four years.
Since 1977 he fought a courageous battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and was so grateful to his doctor, Robert Siegel MD and the wonderful staff at The Helen and Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital for their wonderful care.
In addition to his wife, Asa is survived by a sister Virginia Wilcox, an uncle Eugene Kaufmann of Torrington, two aunts, Gloria Weimann of Torrington and Una Elkner of Dale City, VA, his mother in law Marilyn B. Arnold of Torrington and sister in law Patricia L. and D. Kurt Hoffman of New Hartford and a niece Sarah L. Hoffman of Boulder CO, and several cousins.

Dorothy L Lesieur, 88, of 82 Stedman Rd New Hartford
died Thursday Sept 16 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alphonse Lesieur. Born March 21, 1916 daughter of the late Lyndon and Edith Peasley, she was a long time Nepaug area resident.
She is survived by her son Lyndon Lesieur of New Hartford and his fiance Judy Wright. She also leaves grandchildren Mark Lesieur and his wife Janice and Kimberly Abbate and her husband Cris and two great grandchildren Lydia and Melanie Lesieur. She also leaves a sister Beatrice LaPlante of New Hartford. She was predeceased by a brother Earl Stedman.

Julia Ann Merrill Strampach, 36, of Southfield MA.
died Wed. July 17 at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was the wife of Richard Strampach. Born in New Milford June 20, 1966 she was a long time resident of Winsted.
In addition to her husband she leaves her children Adam, Aaron, and Elena Strambach of Southfield, her mother Sarah Jane (Camp) Merrill of Torrington, a brother Dale K. Merrill of Goshen, and sisters Sherry Dickerson and Donna Fortier of Torrington, and Katie Genua of Waterbury. She also leaves her grandmother Rena Merrill of Old Town Maine, and several nieces and nephews.

Michele Farley Pittler, 49, of Fort Lauderdale FL
died suddenly on Saturday July 13, 2002 in Fort Lauderdale. She was the wife of Arnold Pittler. She was born in Torrington, CT Jan. 18, 1953 daughter of Daniel and Jeanne (Sullivan) Farley of Torrington,she graduated from Torrington High School Class of 1971, and Finch College in New York, Class of 1975. Michele was a dedicated member and volunteer at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Fort Lauderdale. Not only was she devoted to her family, she also dedicated her life to helping others through her actions and her exuberant personality. She is survived by her loving husband and parents, and brothers Daniel Farley of Torrington, Michael Farley of Glastonbury, and James Farley and Eugene Farley, of Torrington, and sisters Donna Fabro and Janice Capolupo both of Torrington. She also leaves 17 nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandparents Mr and Mrs Eugene Sullivan of Lakewood NJ and Mr and Mrs Severin Aronson of Torrington. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Russell H. Wheeler, Sr. 55, of 238 Cathole Rd Litchfield
died Sunday Aug. 4 at his home.
Born in Torrington Dec 10, 1946 son of Doris (Melius) Silvernail of Florida and the late Harry Wheeler, he was a graduate of Torrington High School Class of 1965. He served two terms of duty in The US Navy during Vietnam.
He was employed as an equipment operator for Local Union 478. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horticulture.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son Russell H. Wheeler Jr. and a daughter Tracy E. Wheeler of Litchfield, a sister Nancy Read of Florida, and two brothers, Thomas Wheeler of Baltimore MD and Richard Wheeler of Torrington, his former wife Donna Wheeler of Litchfield, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Private Funeral Services are at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Phalen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial Contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society or to The Disabled War Veterans Fund.
Ruth Rosenthal, 90, of 225 Wyoming Ave Torrington
died Tuesday Nov 12 at Haven Health Care in Torrington. Born in New Haven Jan 26, 1912 daughter of the late David and Louise (Wildehaber) Rosenthal, she was a Waterbury resident prior to moving to Northfield in 1992. She later lived in Winsted. She attended Cook's Adult Day Care Center and Winsted Senior Center and Summerville Adult Day Care.
She is survived by a cousin Elizabeth Bywater Martiner of Greenville Del. and she was predeceased by a sister Helen Rosenthal.
