Henry J. Josefow Sr., 85, of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, formerly of Torrington
died Thursday Nov 7 at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona. He was the husband of the late Margaret A. (Peters) Josefow. Born in Torrington Aug 24, 1917, he was a long time Torrington resident, moving to Florida 7 years ago. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
He was a auto repair specialist, and he operated Center Filling Station and North End Mobil in Torrington for many years.
He is survived by a son Henry J Josefow, Jr of Daytona Beach Shores, Fl and a daughter Deborah Bloxsom of Panama City FL, and 3 grandchildren. He also leaves a brother Edward Josefow of Peoria AZ.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Nov 13 at 10 AM at Saint Maron's Church. Burial will follow at new St. Francis Cemetery. Gertrude M. Sabia, 96, of 22 Howard Rd Old Lyme, formerly of Park Ave Torrington
died Wednesday Nov 6 at Mariner Healthcare in Old Lyme. She was the wife of the late Charles Sabia. Born in Torrington Sept 23, 1906 daughter of the late Lazlow and Amelia (Fabian) Sarkozy, she moved to Old Lyme 7 years ago. She had operated a corset shop in Torrington along with her sister Irene Wasilonsky for several years. She was a member of The Sullivan Senior Center and St. Anne's Society. She was an avid bingo and card player.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Marie and Robert Achille of Old Lyme, and three grandchildren Robbin Baehr and her husband John of Hamden, Kristine Grazioso and her husband Henry of Marshfield MA, and Alan Achille and his wife Jennifer of Clinton, and five great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Frank Sarkozy of Simsbury. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Kirsh and Irene Wasilonsky, and a brother Larry Sarkozy.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will follow at new St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service from 9-10:30.

James Bettini, Sr, 93, of Dunedin, FL, formerly of Torrington
died Wednesday Feb 26 at Mease Dunedin Hospital in Fl. He was the husband of Philomena (Morzella) Bettini.
Born in Torrington Sept 11, 1909 son of the late Rrmenio and Zelinda Bettini, he was a Florida resident since 1974.
He retired as a Foreman at The Torrington Company. He was a Mason, a member of Seneca Lodge # 55, and a member of The Shriners.
In addition to his wife of Florida, he leaves two sons, Ernest R Bettini of Orlando, FL and James R. Bettini of Torrington, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Robert Bettini, killed in WWII.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 1 at 10 AM at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington with Rev James Fung Pastor of Center Congregational Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday Evening from 6-8.

Barbara Swanson, 99, formerly of Old Greenwich
died Monday Feb. 24 at The Middlelbury Convalescent Hospital in Middlebury. She was the wife of the late Douglas F. Swanson. Born in New York City on Dec 4, 1903 daughter of the late William and Mary (Podronzek) Suda, she was a retired office worker and had worked for Conde-Nast.
She was a member of The Weavers Guild and also was was an active member of The Greenwich Senior Center. An avid traveler, she had traveled all around the world throughout her life.
she is survived by two daughters, Rita Duff of Avacortes, WA, and Verna LaMesa of Torrington and a sister Ella Lipori of Florida. She also leaves 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Private Services with burial at Selleck's Corners Cemetery in New Canaan will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Phalen Funeral Home Torrington has charge of arrangements.

Roger Donald Fecteau, 72, of 30 Elmira Ave. Torrington
died Friday Feb. 21, 2003 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Norma (Duchene) Fecteau. Born in Torrington March 28, 1930 son of the late Joseph and Nora (McCarthy) Fecteau, he was employed by Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford for 39 years, retiring in 1989. He was also employed as a Orderly at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and had worked for Allied Grocers.
An avid sports fan, he was a member of The Eastwoods Country Club Retiree's Golf League.
in addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons Bruce Fecteau of CA, and Gregg Fecteau and his wife Debbie of Torrington. He also leaves five daughters Gail Casebolt and her husband Kurt of Atlanta, GA, Carol Collins and her husband Larry of Torrington, Lee Capalbo of RI, Suzanne Fecteau of Torrington, and Jean Cronin and her husband Michael of Wethersfield. He also leaves two step sons and a step daughter, David D'Andrea and his wife Cindy of Goshen, Andre' D'Andrea and his wife Connie of Torrington and Holly Snezienski and her husband Stanley of Torrington and a sister Doris Casavant, also of Torrington, and 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Roger and James Fecteau, a brother Raymond Fecteau, and a granddaughter Shawn Lee Collins.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM at Saint Francis Church 160 Main St. Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington on Monday from 6-8 PM.

Anne D. Horvay, 84, of Alpha Ave. Winsted
Anne D. Horvay, 84 of Alpha Avenue, Winsted, CT entered into eternal peace Friday, May 16, 2003 in her home, with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of Paul Horvay. Born July 30, 1918 and raised in Unionville, CT, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward P. and Antoinette M. Dunne. Anne graduated from the Saint Francis Nursing School. She was the original nurse at the former Dr. Bradford Walker Visiting Nurses Association and was instrumental in the opening of the Connecticut Junior Republic Infirmary in Litchfield, CT. She was a former select person in Goshen, CT. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 46 of which she was a lifetime member. She volunteered many hours to community services throughout CT.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Betsy Durstin and husband Mick, Susanne Trudeau and finance Jerry, Paul A. Horvay and wife Ruthann, Mary Cooper and husband Tom, Carolyn Donaldson and husband Chris along with sisters; Patricia Wright, Mary O’Cain, Betty Keenan, and Lee Ruzbasan. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Anne was predeceased by a son William Horvay, as well as a brother, Edward Dunne, Jr. and sister, Dee Dee Brennan.
Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave., Torrington, CT is entrusted with the arrangements. A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 24th at 11:00am in St. Thomas Church, Goshen, CT. Albert "Bart" Gaioni, 81, of 68 Wilson Ave. Torrington
died Monday May 12 at Wolcott Hall. He was the husband of Irma (Hitchcock) Gaioni. Born in Torrington on March 14, 1922 son of the late Albert Gaioni and Teresa Gaioni Mengarelli, he served in The USAF during WWII, as a Sergeant.
He was a teacher for 30 years in the Torrington School System, retiring in 1984.
He was one of the original members of The Norwestones, he was a 39 year member of Torrington Elks, and was a member of Torrington Country Club for 35 years.
He was active with the local community theater and he played Tevya in Fiddler on The Roof at The Warner Theater and at Regional 7
He enjoyed bowling, card playing and golf.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Faith Darr and her husband Steven of Torrington and Leslie Kirkwood and her husband William of Simsbury, 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and a great grandson and two step gr. grandchildren. He also leaves a sister Catherine Staino and her husband Daniel of Torrington and a daughter in law Bonnie Gaioni of Tallassee, AL. He was predeceased by his son Richard G. Gaioni and a grandson Michael McManus.

Myrlie MacPhail Fisher, 83, formerly of Thompson Heights in Torrington
died Tuesday May 6 at Litchfield Woods. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred J.L. Fisher. Born December 8,1919 in Saddle Brook NJ daughter of the late Beverly and Hermina (Tanis) MacPhail, she was the last survivor of three siblings. She was a housewife and mother of five children, and loved being a mother, singing, painting, and cats. She was a member of The Sullivan Senior Center and also belonged to The Church of The Latter Day Saints Mormon Church in Goshen.
She is survived by three daughters, Deidra Parks and her husband Robert of Waldwick, NJ, Terry Griffo of Key Largo, FL, and June Meyers and her husband Michael of Torrington. She also leaves two sons, Fred J. L. Fisher and his wife Sylvia of Torrington and Barry Fisher of Waterbury, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Helene Bitter and two brothers Austin and Robert MacPhail.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at Noon at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus NJ. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11-Noon.

John J. Sokol, 67, of Koury Terrace in Torrington
died Wednesday July 2 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Judith (Conlon) Sokol.
Born in Torrington Feb. 3, 1936 son of the late Michael and Marie (Muntak) Sokol, he served in The US Army. He was employed by Pheoll in Torrington and later at Southport Industries in Winsted, retiring in 2001.
He was a former member of Torrington Elks, and The Connecticut National Guard, and Saint Peter's Drum Corps.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Concannon and her husband Richard, and Joan Sokol, all of Torrington and grandchildren Katie Concannon and Keith and Keeley Reed.
He also leaves five sisters, Mary Zucco of Sandisfield MA, Susan Fitzgerald of Canton, Ethel Pennell of Harpswell, ME, Mildred Hudson of Bakerville, and Lillian Dotson of Greenville, TN. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Sokol, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 5 at 11:00 AM at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery July 12 at 10 AM. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10-11 on July 5.

John J. Karpinski, 80, of Brightwood Ave. Torrington
died Thursday June 26 at his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Wothmann) Karpinski. Born in Great Barrington Ma Dec. 3, 1922 son of the late Antonio and Sophia Karpinski, he served in The US Navy during WWII.
He was a long time employee of The Torrington Company.
He was a member of The Eagles Club and The Sullivan Senior Center.
In addition to his wife, he leaves several nieces and nephews.
Private Services with burial at Hillside Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

George Flynn, 76, of 61 Thompson Drive Torrington
died Tuesday June 24 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy (Herpich) Flynn. Born in Torrington March 2, 1927 son of the late George and Dorothy (Pullin) Flynn. He served in the Army during WWII.
A well known local businessman, he was the owner of County Heating Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a former member of The Kiwanis Club and Torrington Elks Lodge.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Colleen Ford, Nancy Deeds and her husband Ethan, and Eileen Duchene and her husband David all of Torrington, and seven grandchildren--Kirsten and Ethan Deeds, Jennifer, Randy, and Eric Ford, Benjamin and Jesse Duchene. He also leaves his sister Karen Horvath of Austin TX. He was predeceased by a sister Marjorie Flynn.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday June 28 at 9 AM at Saint Francis Church 160 Main St. Torrington. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday from 5 to 8 PM at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Memorial Contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Blanche B. Sok, 81, of 99 Griswold Street Torrington
died Friday Aug 29 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of William J. Sok. Born in Torrington, Sept. 12, 1921 daughter of the late Bruno and Nellie Pavlik, she was a life long Torrington resident.
In addition to her husband, she leaves three sons, Richard Sok and his wife Cristina of Naperville IL, James E. Sok and his wife Debra of Lakeville, and Ronald Sok and his wife Mary Anne of Torrington, and seven grandchildren.
She also is survived by 3 brothers, Chester Pavlik of Torrington, Carl Pavlik of Barkhamsted, and Walter Sprucinski of Torrington and 2 sisters, Jennie Ohotnicky of Torrington and Sophia Fedorovich of Farmington.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday Sept 5 at 10:30 at Saint Mary's Church in Torrington.
Burial will be at Saint Peter Cemetery.

Albert "Sonny" Mignone, 79, of 237 Pineridge Rd. Torrington
died Friday Aug 29 at his home. He was the husband of the late Corrine (Butwell) Mignone. Born in Torrington Dec. 24, 1923 he was the son of the late John and Rose (Ross) Mignone. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in The US Marine Corps, and he participated in action in The Pacific Theater in Guam and The Marianas Islands.
He was a construction worker in his earlier years, and later he owned Mitchell's Restaurant on the green in Litchfield for many years, retiring in the later 1980's.
He was a member of The Triangle Club and also was a member of The Torrington Country Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Candace Lewandowski and her husband Joseph of San Antonio TX, and Mayan Antonucci of Canton, and 5 grandchildren, Nicole and Maddie Lewandowski, Charlie Brock, and Joseph and Allie Antonucci. He also leaves 2 sisters, Catherine Cassin and Lillian Hodkoski of Torrington. He was predeceased by a sister Mae Yuchunas.

Laurel Knowlton Adams, 54 of 253 Highland Ave Torrington
died Wednesday Aug 27 at her home. She was the wife of Ralph Thomas Adams. Born in Winsted Feb 1, 1949 daughter of Ernest Knowlton of Enfield and the late Ella Mae (Magoon) Knowlton, she attended schools in Winsted and Enfield. She received training in landscaping from Northwest Conn Community College. She was an avid bowler and participated in leagues at Sky Top in Torrington. She was also a contributor to the newspaper "The Voice". She was a member of the Evangelical Baptist Church. She was employed by The Brunswick Corporation in Torrington.
In addition to her husband and father, she leaves a son Michael Roberts of Sebring FL and a daughter Junelle Meddler of Vancouver WA and a brother Garfield LaFountain of Santa Rosa Ca and a sister Pauline Howard of Winchester NH, 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday Sept 2 at 10 AM at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington with Rev. Donald Carpenter Pastor of The Evangelical Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Bernardston MA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 PM.

Francis A. "Chief" Yanok, 82, of 48 Wintrhop St. Torrington
died Friday Nov 28 at Litchfield Woods. He was the husband of Ann (Shaia) Yanok. Born in Cambridge Ohio April 2, 1921 son of the late George and Elizabeth (Mazak) Yanok, he served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
He joined the Torrington Fire Department in 1949, and served as Drill Master for 17 years.
He served as Fire Chief in Torrington for 8 years, retiring in 1985.
He was Torrington Man of The Year in 1985, and was a member of The Fire Chiefs Association and The Fire Instructors Assoc. He was a member of The Torrington Elks Lodge, The Knights of Columbus, and The Sokol Club. He also belonged to Eastwoods Country Club and was a member of The Post Office Retiree's league. An avid pool enthusiast, he was a member of many pool leagues.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Dr. Cynthia Yanok of Harwinton. He was predeceased by brothers Paul, Andrew, and George Yanok and his sister Mary Smedick.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 3 at Noon at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington with Rev. Lawrence Michael of Saint Maron's Church officiating. Roger P Bourque, 83, of 77 North St Torrington
died Thursday Nov 20 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Marguerite (Melisano) Bourque. Born in Sanford ME April 20, 1920 son of the late Vital and Rose (Normand) Bourque, he lived in Torrington most of his life, He was a veteran of The US Army during WWII as a Sergeant in The 726th Air Materiel Squadron in Northern France and Rhineland. He was a retired carpenter, working for Iffland Lumber and Vet's Explosives. He was a former member of The Torrington Pistol Club and The NRA. He was instrumental in placing flags on veteran's graves in Torrington for many years, and made sure no vet grave was left without a flag.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son Roger and his wife Denise Bourque of Torrington and two daughters, Barbara Bayram and her husband Armen of New Britain and Loraine Bellody and her husband Ric of Torrington, 4 grandchildren and a great grandson. He also leaves three brothers, Norman and Maurice Bourque of Torrington and Jacques Bourque of Derby and a sister Jacqueline Bourque of Torrington. He was predeceased by a son Robert A. Bourque and a grandson Robert J Samele, and a sister Geraldine Lemieux and brothers Rudolph and Gerald Bourque.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday Nov 22 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington to Saint Francis Church for a Mass at 10:30 Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 PM.

Lillian Morton, 74, of Laurel Acres Torrington
died Sunday Nov 16 at Adam's House. Born in Norwalk Nov 16, 1929 daughter of the late John and Molly Dwan, she was formerly employed by McCall House in Torrington.
She is survived by 4 children, Lynne Branstron of Norwalk, Robin Palmer of Stratford, Alan Morton of Danbury, and Scott Morton of Norwalk, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Private services are at the convenience of the family. Phalen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Shirley T. Geiger, 86, a longtime Torrington resident
died Friday, Jan 9th at her home. She was the widow of Robert "Bucky" Geiger.
Mrs. Geiger was born March 11, 1917 at West Avon, CT,daughter of the late Russell B. and Mabel G. (Thorpe) Thompson, she graduated from Farmington High School in 1936. She worked at Southern New England Telephone Company for 12 years prior to her retirement. She was an avid quilt maker, hiker, and water skier at her Tyler Lake cottage in Goshen, and a 50 year member of Center Congregational Church in Torrington.
She leaves three sons; Robert J. Geiger, Jr. of Goshen, David W.Geiger of Litchfield, Bruce T.Geiger of Tuscon, AZ; a daughter, Deborah L.Benjamin of Burlington, CT; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Center Congregational Church in Torrington, Thursday, Jan. 15,2004 at 10AM. Arrangements by Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington. There are no calling hours. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

Agnes Carey Hyres, 89, of West Morris Rd Bantam
died Sunday Jan. 4, 2004 at her home. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Hyres Sr.
One of 10 children, she was born in Torrington May 29, 1914 daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hayes) Carey. She attended Torrington schools and was a graduate of Saint Francis School.
She was employed by Lilac Hedges in Litchfield and also had retired from UOP Aerospace in Bantam in 1979. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Bantam.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Hyres and his wife Stephany of Litchfield and Charles Hyres Jr and his wife Ann Marie of Torrington, and a daughter Marilyn Hyres Mayhew and her husband Jerry of Chesapeake, VA., 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Jan 7 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church in Bantam. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington on Tuesday Evening from 6 to 8.
