Darland Gilchrist
Private services will be held at a later date for Darland "Non" Gilchrist, 81, of Burney.
Mr. Gilchrist died of natural causes at Mayers Memorial Hospital's Burney Annex, September 30, 2005.
He was born in Pocahontas, Iowa and moved to the area from Pacifica, CA in 2000. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, a member of the 99 Sportsman CLub in San Francisco and Moose Lodge in Pacifica.
His survivors include his wife Barbara; Mark of Fairfield; daughters, Marceline Davis of Montgomery Creek, Caroleen Engels of Brentwood and Barbara Arrah Thein of San Mateo, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Dorothy Bridgewater
Services will be conducted Thursday at McDonald's Chapel in Burney for Dorothy Anna Bridgewater, 91, of Burney. Burial will be at the Riverside National Cemetery, in Riverside, CA.
Mrs. Bridgewater died of natural causes at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, September 27, 2005.
She was born June 10, 1914 in Manitowock, Wisconsin and moved to the area in 2004 from Ontario, CA. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bridgewater is survived by daughter Diane Ashby of Burney and two grandchildren.
Patsy Salters
A memorial service for former Big Valley resident, Patsy Ann "Pat" Salters, 65, of Calder, Idaho will be held at 4 p.m. in the Adin Church, October 1, 2005.
Mrs. Salters died September 20 in a Coeur D'Alene, Idaho hospital after a three-year battle with cancer.
Born July 23, 1940 in Fouke South, Arkansas, she moved to the Big Valley area in 1967.
She was a bus-driver with the Big Valley School District for 23 years before moving to Calder, Idaho in 1994.
Survivors include husband, Hugh; sons Brent, of Adin and Michael of Bieber; daughters Leslie of Bieber, Cathy Landoski of Adin; brother H.A. Fant of Kermen: sister Zora Nolan of Sanger; and 11 grandchildren.
Darrel Bartholomew
Family services will be scheduled at a later date for former Burney resident Darrell Elmer Bartholomew, 90, of Redding. Burial will be at the Burney Cemetery.
Mr. Bartholomew died of natural causes at the Applewood Inn, September 17, 2005.
He was born February 2, 1915 in Corning, CA and moved to the area from Alturas in 1978. He was an equipment operator and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.

Wayne Morrison
Private family services will be conducted at a later date for Wayne L. Morrison, 74, of McArthur.
Mr. Morrison died at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding.
He was born in Arbuckle, California December 23, 1931 and moved to Shasta County from Sacramento in 1991. He was a mechanical engineer for the University of California at Davis and a life member of the Lions Club, and recently a member of the Fall River Lions Club.
He is survived by sons Richard of Auburn and Michael of Rough and Ready, CA; daughter Sherri Myers of Loomis, CA and Marie Morrison of Roseville; five grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren.

Joseph Repass
Graveside services for Joseph Leland Repass, 88, of Lookout, will be conducted at 11 a.m., September 28, 2005 at the Lookout Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Bidwell will officiate.
He died at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, September 22.
Mr. Repass was born April 6, 1918 in Burkes Garden Virginia. He moved to the area in the late 1940's where he worked on ranches, the Durkee Logging Company and Burlington Northern Railroad.
He was a a U.S. Army Veteran of both WWII and Korea.
His survivors include a brother, Ray, of Rock Falls, Ill.

John Meeker
Graveside services for John Norman Meeker, 90, of Fall River Mills were conducted September 24, 2005 at the Fall River Mills Cemetery, Fall River Mills.
Mr. Meeker died of natural causes September 19, at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills.
Born March 29, 1915 in Millville, he was a lifelong resident of Shasta County. He was the owner of Meeker's Service from 1943 to 1979 after which he built and operated "The Bulldog Bite "across from the high school in McArthur for 9 years.
He was a volunteer fireman and fire chief for the Fall River Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in starting the Fall River Mills Community Services District in the 1950's.
He is survived by wife Josephine; son Norman; sisters Dorothy Eastman and one grandson.

Lottie Carpenter
Graveside services were conducted October 12, 2005 at the Pine Grove Cemetery in McArthur for Lottie F. Carpenter, 99, a former McArthur resident.
Mrs. Carpenter died September 14, at A Family Cottage Care Home in Cottonwood.
She was a homemaker.
Robert Pauley
The caravan started in Bieber, about 5 miles away from Lookout.
The hearse carrying Robert Lee Pauley's casket to the graveside services in Lookout proceeded down highway 299 and along the Lookout Rd. at 30 mph to arrive at Lookout cemetery.
When a fireman dies, it is traditional for departments nearby to send engines and personnel to the services. Pauley was well respected in the fire service and many departments paid their last respects..
Fall River Mills Fire, California Pines Fire, U.S. Dept of Forestry, Adin Fire, California Division of Forestry (CDF) and Bieber VFD as well as units from Lassen and Modoc Sheriff's Office had units participate in the services. The helicopter from the local CDF station had a planned flyover but was not available due to a fire call.
Because of his military service on board the U.S. submarine Baya, the Adin Veterans of Foreign Wars arranged for a 21 gun salute during the ceremony.
Pauley was well known and respected in the Big Valley area. He served in the Lookout Fire Department for over 20 years and was chief until his retirement last month.
He was manager of the Big Valley Electric cogeneration plant.
Friends say, Bob's love was his community and he often expressed his desire to successfully bring back the operation of the plant in Bieber for the purpose of hiring as many local people who had lost their jobs when the lumber mill and power plant went out of business a few years ago. Continental Resource Solutions, Inc. hired him and he played a major roll in making the facility operational and bringing it back on line in spite of a series of setbacks including the fire at the plant on April 7.
Fire personnel showed their last respects with a walk by the grave in uniform concluded by a lowering of the casket with a brand new fire hose from the Lookout Fire Department which was buried along with the casket.
The ceremony was followed by a potluck dinner sponsored by the Lookout Ladies Auxiliary at Lookout Fire Hall which was attended by about 100 people.
Pauley moved to Lookout in 1976 and was lead man at Big Valley Power Station in Bieber and was the former chief and now member of Lookout Fire Dept.
Bob is survived by his son Aaron Pauley of Perth, Australia, daughter Amy Allison from Arizona, companion Laurie LaHue, twin sister Barbara Taylor-Bates from Redding, sisters Carla Duffy from Whitmore and Linda Deacon from Martinez CA as well as four grandchildren, three nephews, two nieces and three great nephews.

June Curcek
No local services are planned for June Virginia Curcek, 90, of McArthur. Burial will be at the Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka.
Mrs. Curcek died of natural causes at her home September 10, 2005.
She was born April 27, 1915 in Oregon and moved to the area from Eureka in 1981. She was a bookkeeper for the Eureka Public Schools.
Mrs. Curcek is survived by her son Val Howser of Tacoma, WA, sisters Jean Lahti and Artyce Moreau of Rosewood City, CA, two grand children and three great-grandchildren.

Richard Markwith
Services will be held in Lafayette, Indiana for Richard L. Markwith, 77, of Burney. Burial will be at the Farmer's Institute Cemetery, West Point, Indiana.
Mr. Markwith died of natural causes September 11, 2005 at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills.
He was born June 28, 1928 in Lafayette, Indiana and moved to the area from Lafayette in 2004. He was a sheet metal worker and U.S. Navy veteran of Korea and Vietnam.
Mr. Markwith is survived by son Randy of Burney and daughter Millie Self of San Ramon, CA, and 12 grandchildren.
Harold Dayton
Services were held September 17 for Harold R. Dayton, 76 of McArthur. Burial was at the Pine Grove Cemetery in McArthur.
He died of natural causes at Mercy Medical Center in Redding September 14, 2005.
He was born May 31, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was a carpenter with Big Valley Lumber, a member of the Mountain Cruisers Car Club and the Fall River United Methodist Church.
He is survived by daughters Diana Simpson of McArthur and Nola Covert of Burney, sisters Alice Foster and Laura Ellis both of Washington State, companion Barbara Fine of McArthur, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Florence Gideon
Services were conducted for Florence M. Gideon, 87, of Burney, September 10, 2005. Burial followed at the Burney District Cemetery.
Mrs. Gideon died of natural causes September 6, at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills.
She was born June 14, 1918 in Gainsville, Texas and moved to the area in 2003 from Modesto.
She was the owner-operator of a custom draperies business, and a member of the Intermountain Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gideon is survived by her son, Fred, of Burney; daughters Barbara Gempler of Boise, ID and Jane Milligan of Payson, AZ; sister Louise Langston of Fort Worth, Texas, 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Marian Marugg
Services will be scheduled at a later date for Marian "Mimi" Elaine Marugg, 79, of McArthur.
Mrs. Marugg died from natural causes August 31, 2005 at her residence.
She was born October 20, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan and moved to the area in 1981 from Menlo Park, CA. She was an assistant registrar at Stanford University for 25 years, a member of Intermountain Artists and Mayers Memorial Hospital Guild.
She is survived by son Steven of Fall River Mills; daughter Victoria of Healdsburg, CA and one grandson.
Manuel Sousa
A rosary and memorial mass for Manuel "Manny" Sousa, 90, of Redding will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald's Redding Chapel.
Mr. Sousa died September 2, 2005 at Beverly Healthcare in Redding.
He was born May 22, 1915 in Hollister and moved to Shasta County in 1970 from Half Moon Bay.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a Postmaster in Half Moon Bay, member of the Montgomery Creek Grange 442 in Round Mountain, American Legion, Past District Governor of Lions District 4-C1, member of Redding Lions, the Elks Lodge in Redding and City of Hope.
Survivors include wife Faye; daughters Anna Marie Boucher of Saratoga, Annabelle Hoffman of Santa Barbara, Mary Ann Montoani of San Carlos, and Mona McBrayer of Redding; several grand, great-grand and four 4-great-great grandchildren.
James Fitzhugh
Services for James Herndon Fitzhugh, 79, of Oakridge, Oregon, will be at 2 p.m., today, August 30, at McDonald's Chapel in Burney. Pastor Henry Winkelman of the Grace Community Bible Church will officiate.
Mr. Fitzhugh died of natural causes at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, August 23, 2005. He was born May 25, 1926 in Topeka, Kansas. He was an auto mechanic for Shell Oil Company. And a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.
He is survived by wife, Emma and daughter Connie Lynn Dail of Oakridge, brother Clem of Martinez, CA,, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Henry Volking
Private graveside services were conducted at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, California for Henry M. Volking, 89, of Burney.
Mr. Volking died of natural causes at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, August 24, 2005. He was born January 21, 1916 in Gulfport, Mississippi and moved to the area in 2000 from Turlock.
He was a minister, a member of the Word of Life Assembly of God Church in Burney, an an Army Veteran of WWII.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Thomas of Burney and Esther Thompson of Sand Point, Idaho.
Betty Goodgame
Private family services will be held for Betty Joan Goodgame, 72, of Bieber and Fall River Mills. Burial was at the Lookout Cemetery, in Lookout.
Mrs. Goodgame died of natural causes at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, August 15, 2005.
She was born July 13, 1933 in Chanute, Kansas and moved to Fall River Mills in 2002 from Bieber. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Goodgame is survived by husband John; son Kurt of North Bend, Oregon; daughters Barbara Bolin of Magalia, California and Pamela Thompson of Carson City Nevada, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
