Mitchell was born in Staten Island, NY and was a life long resident of the shore area living in Bamber Lake, Bayville and Toms River. He was a graduate of Central Regional High School. He was a carpenter and most recently was employed at Stop & Shop of Toms River.

Owen P. Grogan, 64, of Barnegat passed away on Monday, December 1 at his home.
He worked as an accountant for many years before retiring. Born and raised in Newark, he lived in Chicago, moving to Barnegat 10 years ago.

Joseph Laratta, 62 of Island Heights, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 03, 2008 surrounded by his family.
He was an aviation technician and worked for the US Government. He served in US Marines during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Air Medal and several other service medals. He served in the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard and the Department of the Navy from 1974 until he retired in 1995. He was employed by Ocean County in the vehicle maintenance department for Ocean Ride senior citizen transportation from 1995 to 2006. Born in East Orange, he grew up in Bloomfield, and lived in Virginia and Mercerville. He lived in Toms River for 28 years before moving to Island Heights four years ago.
He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Schwartz in 1995.

Mavis Ilene “Lee” Flatt, 67 of Lakewood passed away on Sunday, November 30, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
In the early 70’S Lee was a den leader with the Boy Scouts of America in Novi, Michigan, a member of the Kennel Club in Taylor, Michigan; a volunteer with Contact of Ocean County for many years; a member of the NJ Artist Guild of Island Heights; a member of the Bayville First Aid Squad Auxiliary, and the Mayflower Society. Born in Plainfield, she grew up in Summit and summered in Manasquan Park for many years. She moved to Detroit, Michigan and returned to Ocean County in 1975 and settled in Bayville in 1977. In 2007 she moved to Leisure Park in Lakewood where she was active with the Red Hat Society, the walking and garden clubs and the welcoming committee. She served as chairperson of the recreation committee, and was known to all as the lady with the dog on the scooter.
She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Flatt in 1988.

Lloyd B. Jackson, 43, residing in Brick NJ, formerly of Bayville, NJ passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008
Born May 15, 1965, in Warwick NY Lloyd was raised in Orange County NY and later in State College, PA where he called home. Lloyd was proud to be Penn State University alumni. He was Director of Sales for Preemptive Meds in Whitehouse Station, NJ. He also enjoyed much success in sales at companies including Xerox, GlaxoSmithKline, and Amgen, Inc.
Lloyd was a natural athlete who excelled in football, wrestling, and baseball. He was an avid football fan and a diehard supporter of his beloved Penn State Nittany Lions. Lloyd had a “larger than life” persona; his mere presence and booming voice seemed to fill a room. Lloyd was a friend to all and had a way of making everyone he met feel special. He was a loving father, son, and brother and will be dearly missed by all.
Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Lanette and his former wife, Joanne, of Bayville, NJ; His biological mother Terry Saturno and stepfather Carl of Westbrookville, NY; his adoptive mother Bette Jackson, of State College, PA; his sister Roni Jackson of Newport Beach, CA; his uncle Joe Radivoy of Bloomingburg, NY; his aunts Mary Ann Hite of New Hampton, NY and Karen Bende of Goshen, NY; his nephews Seifu and Daniel, and several cousins. His was predeceased by his loving father, Lloyd B. Jackson, Sr.
Visitation will be from 1 – 3 pm on Sunday, November 23, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ.

Neil R. Vasarkovy, of Roselle Park, whose family lives in Toms River, died November 3, 2008 in Omaha, NE after a short battle with cancer.
In keeping with his teaching of nature, he chose to donate his body to Creighton University to be used by medical students for their ongoing education. Mr. Vasarkovy grew up in Glen Ridge, NJ. He was educated at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark ; St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN, and Seaton Hall University, South Orange. His graduate studies took him to Keane College, NJ ; Syracuse University, Columbia University, Beaver College and New School for Social Research in New York. After becoming fluent in Russian through his studies at Syracuse, he served as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1967. Neil taught at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School, Newark ; Holy Trinity High School, Westfield ; Keane university and Union Catholic high School. At Millburn High School, he taught honors psychology and was the yearbook advisor for twenty years. He served as Millburn Education Association Representative. Mr. Vasarkovy was preceded in death by his parents, Cecilia and Albert Vasarkovy and his brother Kevin.

William G. McCarrick, 87 of Berkeley Twp, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, at the Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. McCarrick was a Banker and Real Estate Appraiser for over 60 years retiring in 2006. He served in the US Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Toms River Post 129; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Berkeley Township Post 9503; Disabled American Veterans, Ocean County Memorial Chapter 24, and the Silver Ridge Park West Home Owners Association. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian – Kolbe Catholic Church. Born in Newark, he lived in Morris County, Florham Park, moving to Berkeley Twp in 1989.

Robert Gary Himmel, Sr., 65 of Toms River passed away at home.
Gary was a self employed mason contractor with Wilbert and Himmel for 35 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed oil painting beautiful scenery, loved to fish on Island Beach State Park and enjoyed making and selling jewelry with his wife at various craft shows. He made a friend of everyone he met. The most important things in life were his family members…he was never too busy to help anyone. Born in Newark, he grew up in Clark, moving to Toms River in 1966.

John Wasilczyk, 94, of Toms River, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, at his home.
Mr. Wasilczyk worked as a baker for the Shop-Rite of Toms River for 11 years before retiring. He served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the A.J. Weeks VFW Post 6063 of Toms River. He was a communicant of St. Justin Roman Catholic Church of Toms River. Born and raised in Nanticoke, PA he lived in Jersey City moving to Toms River 45 years ago. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Onderko Wasilczyk in 1998.

William Justin Furia, 30 of Toms River, passed away Sunday, September 21 at home.
Justin graduated from Toms River High School North in 1996 and received his Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Ocean County College. He enjoyed basketball and was a die hard fan of Alan Iverson of the Denver Nuggets. He was also a movie buff. Born in Newark, he was a life long resident of Toms River.
He is survived by: his parents, Diane and Carl Furia; brother, Jordan Spohr Mehyer; great Uncle Jack Stahl, all of Toms River ; uncle John Furia of W. Orange ; and his constant companion, his dog Snoopy.
Services were private and the family requests that you say a prayer for Justin when you think of him. Kedz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Detective (Ret). David M. Rogers, age 67 of Toms River, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
He retired from the Lakewood Police Department as a Detective after nearly 30 years of service and was a member of PBA Local 71. He was a US Navy veteran attached to a CB Battalion and saw service in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Hawaii, Spain, New Zealand and Antarctica. His hobbies included antique cars, playing pool, stamp and coin collecting and he was most passionate about collecting Leigh Valley trains and memorabilia. Born in Passaic, he grew up in Bergenfield where he graduated from High School. He lived in Park Ridge before moving to Toms River in 1972. He was predeceased by his father Philip in 1981 and his mother Mary in 1995.
He is survived by
his wife of 42 years, Evelyn Rogers.

Sharon and Vinnie Semanchick of FL.
Four active and loving Grandsons: Christopher, Matthew, Zachary and Vincent.

Jerald VA “Jerry” Britten, age 75 of Toms River, died Tuesday, September 09, at his home.
Born in New York, he lived in Glen Ridge where he was a 1950 graduate of Glen Ridge High School. He the moved to Toms River in 1959. He attended Fairleigh Dickenson University and late graduated from the West Lawn School of Yacht Design. He was a member of the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. During the fifties and sixties he was involved in automobile racing both as a driver and car owner. He was a principle in McCarthy Britten Associates, long distance trucking co. He then went into automobile sales and won numerous sales awards with Toms River Lincoln Mercury. In 1979, he joined the Toms River School System and retired from there in 1993 as a supervisor. He was a member of the Titanic Historical Society, the Steamship Historical Society, The Erie, Lackawanna Historical Society and Railroadians of America. He was an avid model builder and a life long dog lover.
He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Helen Britten.

Born in Englewood, he lived in Bergenfield before moving to Manahawkin. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Susan Canfield, age 57, a life long resident of Ocean County died Sunday, September 7 at her home.
She was a home health care manager and worked for the Visiting Homemakers of Ocean County for many years. She was a Toms River High School Graduate and a member of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Gabriel and Kay Daniel of Beachwood.
Susan is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Canfield-O’Toole of Beverly Hills, Fla. ; three granddaughters, Krystle, Katie and Amanda O’Toole; her companion, Peter Bies; a brother, Bill Daniel and his wife Betty of Beachwood; and two nephews, Jason and Matthew Daniel.
The family requests that donations to honor Susan’s memory be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Fwy., Ste 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
Services were private under the direction of Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River.

Carmen Sanchez, born Carmen Zayas, died peacefully in Island Heights, on September 7, 2008 at the age of 94 years.
Carmen was born in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico in 1914 and lived in New York prior to moving to Island Heights.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Enrique, her three children, Carmen Lydia, Alfonso and Elizabeth; her nine grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren, as well as her sisters, Rafaela and Sophia.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home followed by burial at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

Loretta Lesiak, 92, of Toms River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Kimball Medical Center.
Mrs. Lesiak worked for the Tingley Rubber Corp. of Rahway for 23 years, retiring in 1976. She had attended St. Joseph ’s Church. Born and raised in Bayonne, she lived in Clark before moving to Toms River in 1980. She was predeceased by her beloved husband William; two sisters, Edna Sugrue and Katherine O’Brien; and a grandson, Michael Valush.

Edward A. Husni, 88 of Toms River, formerly of Cherry Hill, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2008.
Mr. Husni was an accountant and worked for I.B.M. of White Plains, NY and Milford, CT. for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a former member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Cherry Hill and was a member of the Christian Businessman’s Association of White Plains. He had served in the army during World War II. He was loved for his quiet spirit, quick wit and wonderful laugh.

Anna May Flood, 73 of Toms River, passed away Friday, August 22, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Flood worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. Malcolm Kramer of Forked River for 8 years, retiring in 1996. She was a communicant of St. Justin’s Catholic Church. She was an avid camper, loved her children and adored her grandchildren. Born in Avenel, she lived in Keansburg, moving to Toms River in 1971.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond Flood in 1986 and three brothers, George, William and Richard Tompkins.
Surviving are her children: Raymond of Texas; Colleen Kerico and her husband Jeffrey; Patrick and his wife Christine and Kelly Guglielmoni and her husband Thomas, all of Toms River.

Shawn P. Herman, 47 of Toms River, passed away at his home, Thursday, August 21.
Shawn was a Field Service Engineer with Carl Zeiss, SMT, Inc., of Peabody MA. He was a 1979 graduate of Toms River High School North and attended Union Technical Institute of Neptune. Born in Denver, Colorado, he was a life long resident of the shore area.

Louise H. Pope, 92 of Toms River, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of August 21st, in McKinney, Texas.
She would have celebrated her 68th wedding anniversary on the 18th. Louise graduated early at the top of her class from business school. After graduation she worked as a secretary and subsequently married Steve the great love of her life. During her lifetime she served as a treasurer and secretary for many local organizations such as the PTA, Boy Scouts of America, Elks, and Toms River Bowling League.
Louise and Steve enjoyed a very active retirement taking creative classes for Senior Citizens and won trophies for dancing and various events. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her humor, wonderful story telling and most of all her steadfast love. As Steve would sing to her "every little breeze seems to whisper Louise". We all know that they are dancing still. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Stephen Pope in April 2007.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm Tuesday at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home followed by interment at St. Joseph ’s Cemetery, Toms River.

Martin T. Cifarelli, Sr., age 86 of Toms River died on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Willows in Holmdel.
Mr. Cifarelli was born in Jersey City and had lived there until he came to Toms River in 1982. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army, and was a member of the American Legion of Jersey City and was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church of Toms River. He was employed with Colgate of Jersey City as a tin smith, retiring in 1982 after working there for 41 years.
He was predeceased in 2006 by his wife of 59 years Rita Hughes Cifarelli.
He is survived by his son Martin T. Cifarelli, Jr., and two grandsons, Christopher P. and Daniel T. Cifarelli.
Private services were held under the direction of the Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River.

Matthew Michael Vasel, 60 of Toms River, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, August 10, 2008.
He was a certified public accountant, and a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church. Born in Passaic, he lived in Clifton moving to Toms River in 1987.

John William Anderson, 85, died peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Born in Union, he lived in the Middlesex County area before moving to Bayville 3 years ago. He worked for Johnson & Johnson for 30 years, retiring 20 years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 101st airborne. He will be missed by many, and remembered for his sense of humor, wise cracks and his complete honesty. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Florence Wood Anderson; two brothers, Lester and Roy and a sister Joan Anderson.
Surviving his children: Cathie of Manchester Twp.; David of Wenonah; Michael Szigeti of Howell; Lisa Cunningham of Dallas, NC, and Laverne Pascucci of Brick.
Grandchildren: Cory, Davie and Wyatt Anderson; Mackenzie Malaspina; Frankie Cunningham; Chrissy, Dawn and Dean Martin.
A sister: Mary Manasi of NC
A Brother: Donald Anderson of FL.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 16 at the Manchester Fire House, Commonwealth Blvd. from 2 – 7 pm. All are welcome to celebrate his life.

Nancy Lynne Schrumpf, 59 of Toms River, passed away at home on Saturday, August 9, 2008.
Nancy was a licensed real estate agent and worked for Ridge Realty at the Greenbriar Woodlands Community and was a member of the Monmouth County Association of Realtors. She was a graduate of Freehold High School, and was a member of the Toms River Presbyterian Church. Born in Elizabeth, she was a life long resident of the Jersey Shore, moving to Toms River 20 years ago.
She was predeceased by her father, a renowned local sports official, Jack Schrumpf in 1988.

Frances Laudicina Ciliento, 93 of Toms River, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 8, 2008.
Born in New York City, Frances was raised in East Rutherford. She lived in Wood-Ridge and Lodi before moving to Toms River in 1995. She was a professional seamstress, a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers, and worked in many clothing shops in North Jersey. She retired from Rutherford Dress in 1980. Frances was a former member of Our Lady of Assumption R.C. Church in Wood-Ridge. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3149, and the Mary Washington Chapter of the American War Mothers, both of Carlstadt. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1974.

Zenon J. Cybyk, 64, of Toms River, passed away Wednesday at the University of PA Medical Center.
Mr. Cybyk was a computer software consultant for PurchasingNet, Inc., of Red Bank, NJ since 1992. He was a communicant of St. Stephens’ Ukrainian Catholic Church in Toms River. Mr. Cybyk was a proud and devoted father and a tremendous supporter of his children’s work and their accomplishments. Born in Poland, he was raised in Newark. He lived in Akron, Ohio from 1976 until moving to Toms River in 1992.

Eveline Philomena Iacuzzi, 76 of Flat Rock, NC, formerly of Toms River, passed away Sunday, July 20 at the Margaret Pardee Memorial Hospital, Hendersonville, NC.
Mrs. Iacuzzi was a registered nurse and worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City for 37 years, retiring in 1998. She was a former communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church of Toms River. Born in Dunmore, Ireland, she lived in Toms River for many years and Florida, moving to Flat Rock in 1999. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alfred Iacuzzi, Jr. in 2005 and a son George Iacuzzi in 1998.
