Judith Louise (Swasey) Seneca

PORTLAND - Judith Louise (Swasey) Seneca, 67, of Romasco Lane, died early Tuesday morning at Maine Medical Center.
Judi was born in Portland, the only daughter of Perley Ambrose and Margaret (Belfontaine) Swasey. She attended North School, Jack Junior High School and Portland High School.
As a young girl, she attended the Baptist Church, Jesus Never Fails.
On June 8th, 1959 she was married to Joseph A. Seneca. She worked for a few years at a local bakery, before opening a child care service in 1965. Over the past 40 years, Judi touched the lives of more than 100 children. She was a warmhearted, caring person who was loved by everyone she knew.
Judi was predeceased by two brothers; Robert and Harry.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Seneca; two daughters, Margaret Ford and her husband Dean of Scarborough and Joanne Seneca of Portland; stepson, Michael Seneca of Portland; four grandchildren, Rachel, Dean Jr., Elizabeth and Georgia. Judi is also survived by four brothers; Perley (Pete), Everett, Donald and Daniel.
Visiting hours will be 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, Friday, April 14th at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home,172 State Street, Portland, followed by a 12:30 pm Memorial Service with Pastor Brian Wade of the Royal Ridge Church of God officiating. A reception celebration of her life will follow.

Julia "Judy" King

SOUTH PORTLAND - Julia (Judy) King, age 78, of South Portland, died April 5, 2006 following a brief illness.
She was born in Portland a daughter of Luke V. and Mary A. Skerritt Whalen. She was a 1945 graduate of South Portland High School and was a 1948 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Patrick J. King at Holy Cross Church in South Portland, August 1956. He predeceased her on July 10, 1999, along with her 2 brothers, Charles & Joseph.
Judy worked as a registered nurse in the operating room at Mercy Hospital retiring in 1992. She was a skilled conscientious nurse who was extremely well-respected and loved. She provided wonderful care for many family and friends.
Following her retirement from Mercy Hospital she worked at the South Portland Municipal Golf Course from 1993 thru 1997. She also worked part-time at Cherished Possessions until this past year where she developed many close friendships. In addition she was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital.
Judy often provided friends and family with her famous peanut butter fudge when they needed a treat. She loved to play cards and was always ready for a quick game. Judy always carried a deck of cards with her. She taught all of the grandchildren the joy of playing cards at an early age. Her skill of games included Trivial Pursuit and she was quick to answer Jeopardy questions. Judy loved spending time with family and friends; she enjoyed many family gatherings including summers at Sebago Lake and trips that included Las Vegas, Hawaii and Ireland and of course frequent trips to Virginia.
She was a lifetime communicant at Holy Cross Church. She served in many church committees over the years.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Ridge and her husband William of South Portland, Maria Dewing and her husband James of Springfield, VA; a sister Margaret Page of South Portland, four grandchildren, Laura and Bill Ridge of South Portland, Carra and Colleen Dewing of Springfield, VA.
Visiting hours will be held 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the South Portland Chapel followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

William Hawley Gleeson Jr.

CAPE ELIZABETH - William Hawley Gleeson Jr., 82, of Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth died Friday, January 4th at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Hawley was born on January 24th 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of William Hawley and Helen (Goggin) Gleeson. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1942 and entered Harvard College at the age of 17. In 1944 Hawley was drafted into the Army and was enrolled in the Army Specialized Training Language School at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California to study the Dutch language in order to become an interpreter. When the war ended Hawley returned to Harvard and graduated in 1948, but remained a member of the class of 1946. He later attended Cornell University Business School.
In 1951 Hawley married Patricia Ann Doyle in Belmont, Massachusetts, and began a career in the insurance industry. In 1957 he was transferred to Maine on business and settled his family in Cape Elizabeth. He retired from Quincy Mutual Fire Insurance Company in 1990.
Hawley is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann Gleeson of Scarborough Terrace; four children, Mark H. Gleeson of Portland, Jane G. Hannigan of Portland and her husband Robert of Portland, Peter H. Gleeson and his wife Lois-Ann of Cape Elizabeth, David H. Gleeson and his wife Kimberly of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Robert Hannigan of Portland and Sarah and Thomas Gleeson of Cape Elizabeth.
Services for Hawley will be private for the family. Interment
will be in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Homes, 172 State Street, Portland.

Patricia K. "Miss Patty" (Hurd) Griffin Richardson

Patricia K. ‘Miss Patty,’ (Hurd) Griffin Richardson, 61, of Deering Pavilion, Portland, died at Mercy Hospital on December 31, 2007. Patricia was born on June 26, 1946, the daughter of Katherine (Griffin) Hurd.
Patricia attended Portland schools. She worked at Valley’s and the Village Cafe for many years and was present the last day the Village was open before it closed.
Patricia was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Church. She was also an active volunteer of the AMVETS, Charles J. Loring Post 25 and the Paul Malia American Legion Post 161, both located in Portland.
Patricia is predeceased by her mother Katherine (Griffin) Hurd.
She is survived by her long time companion Joseph Richardson; 3 daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Virginia) Steves of Naples; Becky Richardson and Tim Plummer of Standish, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Regina) Fernald of Buxton; two sons Joseph G. Richardson and his wife Cindy of Portland and John J. Richardson and his wife Tammy of Standish; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday January 4, 2008 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St. A 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St. Portland. Interment

BIDDEFORD – John T. Smith, age 71, of Biddeford, formerly of Portland, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Southern Maine Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born in Portland on July 19, 1936, a son of Henry and Mary A. Connolly Smith. He attended Portland schools.
Mr. Smith worked in productions at Jordan Meats from where he retired in 2000.
He was a member of the Portland Eagles.
He enjoyed playing pool and cards.
He was predeceased by his parents; his former wife, Mary Jane Smith in 2002; a son, John Peter Smith; a daughter, Margaret Lewis-Smith in 2003; and his sister, Adelaide Curran.
He is survived by two daughters, Mindy Smith Trafford of North Conway, NH, and Gina Sharpe and her husband John of Springvale; two sons, Randy Vanier and his wife Diana of Scarborough, and Joseph Vanier of Buxton; his brother, Henry Smith; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held on Friday, January 4, at 1:00 pm at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Interment
will be at a later date.
Dolores "Dolly" (Leo) Henriksson

PORTLAND – Dolores “Dolly” (Leo) Henriksson, age 78, of Portland, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at her home after a long illness.
She was born in Portland on April 24, 1929, a daughter of Carmine E. and Yvonne Dubay Leo. She attended Cathedral Grammar School and was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1947. She also graduated from Gray’s Business School.
She married Karl E. Henriksson, Sr.
In her earlier working years, she was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Portland and Boston. She later worked at as teacher’s aide for the Portland School Department.
Dolly was very artistic. She would create charcoal portraits which her students took home as gifts to their parents.
She enjoyed watching CNN and the news and doing crossword puzzles.
She was active in St. Patrick’s Church and the PTA.
She is predeceased by her husband, Karl E. Henriksson Sr. in 2004, and her brother, Carmine Leo Jr. in 1955.
She is survived by her daughter, Candace Henriksson of Portland; her sons, Karl Henriksson Jr. of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Charles Henriksson of Portland.
Funeral services will be private.

PORTLAND - Kathleen V. Foley, 90, of Portland, died December 26, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland. She was born on December 31, 1916, in Portland, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Irene (McDonald) Vanier, and attended local schools.
Kathleen married Michael “XY” Foley.
As a teenager, Kathleen was an excellent swimmer, and she often swam to Cutters Island off the Eastern Promenade.
She worked as a dietary aide for many years, starting with the Portland School Department from the mid-1950’s until 1965, and then for Maine Medical Center from 1965-1981, from where she retired.
In her later years, Kathleen enjoyed the friends and activities of 100 State Street, especially parties and Beano. She liked movies and trips to Two Lights for clams and crab cakes.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband in 1991, and by a son, Francis “Frank” Foley in 2003. She is survived by her children, James M. Foley and his wife Rose Ann of Arundel, Mary Proulx of Portland, Carol Herrick and her husband Peter of Portland, Phillip Foley of San Angelo, TX, and John J. Foley and his wife Loretta of Standish; a brother, Philip Vanier of South Portland; an aunt, Gertrude Caiazzo of Portland; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Patrick "Padraic" J. Keane

PORTLAND - Patrick "Padraic" J. Keane, 73, of Portland, died at Maine Medical Center on December 24, 2007, with his family by his side. He was born on April 19, 1934, a son of Thomas and Anne (Flaherty) Keane in Galway Ireland.
He attended and graduated high school and carpentry school in Galway Ireland.
In 1962, Padraic moved from Ireland to Portland. On November 28, 1964 he married the former Patricia M. Ney. They moved to the Boston area briefly because of His work, but later returned to Portland. Padraic worked for several years as a union carpenter in Boston, MA and in Portland, ME. During the 1970's he owned the Harborvue Shop on Peaks Island. In the 1980's he returned to construction and was self employed as a carpenter, retiring in 1996 to care for his ailing wife.
"Padraic was a communicant of St. Pius X and he attended St. Patrick's Church and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He was a founding member of the Irish American Club.
Padraic enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved spending time with Margaret travelling, teaching her cribbage, and watching their nightly T.V. shows. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed trips to the Red Sox and Patriots games with Margaret and Teddy. He enjoyed babysitting his grandson Baby Padraic and liked to work on the family home. He loved working on "fixer uppers" with his son Padraic. He enjoyed Kevin’s helpful hand in projects and his big heart. Padraic enjoyed walking the Boulevard and his neighborhood. He was never too busy to stop and enjoy a cup of tea or the help a friend in need. He also enjoyed singing and listening to Irish music and occasionally played beano, but didn't win very often. He had a great sense of humor. He loved his family dearly. He was kind and compassionate. He was always giving and lived to support and take care of his children. He always had a positive outlook on life. He was treasured and will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1997 and three brothers, Bartley, Peter, and Martin Keane.
Survivors include his daughter Margaret A. Keane with whom he lived and her partner Teddy Downey of Portland; two sons, Padaric J. Keane and his wife Beth Sutherland of Portland, Kevin M. Keane of Portland, four sisters Mary "Maura" Keane of England, Margaret Hayden and her husband Dr. John "Jack" of Falmouth, Catherine O'Connor of Braintree, MA, Ann Bourke and her husband James of Portland; three brothers, John "Sean" Keane and his wife Barbara of Chicago, IL, Michael Keane and his wife Patricia of Portland, Thomas Keane and his wife Margaret of Galway, Ireland; a grandson, Padraic Keane of Portland and step-granddaughter Sarah Sutherland of Portland; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

PORTLAND - Beulah M. Norberg, 83, of Portland, died peacefully on December 21, 2007 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born on October 25, 1924 in Buxton, a daughter of Erland I. Knight and Carrie M. York, attended local schools, and was a graduate of Buxton High School.
Beulah was a waitress at many area restaurants for many years. She was a member of the United Baptist Church at Bar Mills. She also operated a yard sale on Route 4A in Buxton for many years.
Beulah was married to Ralph Norberg, he predeceased her in 1994.
She is survived by her daughter Janice Jenson of Portland; her son Ralph E. Gaddy and his wife Rose of East Waterboro; her brothers Kenneth Knight of Buxton, Bernard Knight of Buxton and Nealand Knight and his wife Sandra of Florida; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

PORTLAND - Victor O. Peterson, 90, of Portland died Friday, December 21, 2007 in Portland. Victor was born on September 7, 1917 in Portland, a son of Edward B. and Mary Jane (Landry) Peterson. Victor attended Portland High School.
He served in the US Army and is a veteran of WWII.
Victor worked for Portland Copper and retired after 14 years. He was a member of the Portland Lodge of Elks and H.T. Andrews American Legion Post.
Victor was a longtime communicant of St. Dominic’s Church.
He is predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. Surviving are several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Joan F. Barrasso (Hi-Hi), 67, of Scarborough, died peacefully on Thursday December 20, 2007 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, with family by her side. She was born on September 27, 1940 in Boston, MA, a daughter of Joseph F. Gill and Helen T. Morrisey.
Joan was a graduate of Fitton High School in 1958. She then went on to graduate from Massachusetts Memorial School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1962.
Joan married Anthony Barrasso in 1964.
Joan was a dedicated member of the Massachusetts Memorial School of Nursing Alumni Association for 45 years. She was co-founder of Anthony’s Italian Kitchen and Anthony’s Dinner Theatre in Portland.
Joan is predeceased by her parents. Joan is survived by her son David Barrasso and wife Julie of Mattawan, Michigan; her daughter Karen Doughty of Scarborough; her daughter Julie Fournier and her husband Brian of Scarborough; her son Mark Barrasso and wife Margaret of Portland; her sister Helen Colbert and her partner Elizabeth Cressey of Gulfport, Florida; and her grandchildren Jacqueline Fournier, Niels Doughty, Amanda Doughty, Nicholas Barrasso, Alicia Fournier, Travis Doughty, and Alannah Barrasso. PORTLAND - Patricia G. (Kane) Griffin, age 79, died Wednesday December 19, 2007 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Portland July 25, 1928, a daughter of Coleman and Ella (Hodgkins) Kane. Patricia attended local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Portland High School.
While in high school, Patricia worked as a sales clerk at Porteous, Mitchell & Braun, Co.
On June 19, 1948 she married Peter James Griffin in Portland. Together they raised a loving family. In the 1980’s Mrs. Griffin returned to work at the Federal Supermarket on Congress Street.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. Patricia was predeceased by her husband on June 14, 1990, two sisters, Eleanor B. King, Evelyn “Sis” Carlista and a grandson Steven Michael Jones.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family including, four daughters, Maureen A. Foster and her husband Robert of Bridgton, Patricia E. Cogswell and her husband Edward of Gorham, Jane M. Dooley of Medford, MA, Cynthia E. Jones and her husband Steven of Forest, VA; two sons, Peter J. Griffin and his wife Rita of Scarborough, Brian C. Griffin and his wife Amy of Florida; four sister-in-laws Mary (Joyce) Griffin of Portland, Elizabeth (Griffin) Ranaghan of Portland, Juliene (Griffin) Harris of Seattle, Washington, Ellen (Downs) Griffin of South Portland; 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mark E. Thibeault, age 49, died in his home with his family by his side on Tuesday December 18, 2007, following a remarkably courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 17, 1958, in Portland, ME to Paul and Elizabeth Jordan Thibeault. He grew up in South Portland where he attended Henley & Roosevelt Grade School and graduated from South Portland High School in 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, formerly Tammy Ann Whitworth, on January 14, 1978 at Holy Cross Church who he spent 30 love filled years with.
Mark and Tammy began their family in South Portland. He entered the insurance business and began working for Unum. Mark enjoyed a successful 30 year career at Unum, where he became a respected and beloved colleague of many, working his way through the ranks to management roles in both the Underwriting and Sales Departments. His dedication to his job, and the company, spoke volumes to any and all that worked with him.
Mark enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his children and grandson grow. He loved football and looked forward to every August, which brought the start of fantasy football. He loved the Red Sox almost to the point of distraction. In high school he played baseball and the ‘gentle’ sport of rugby, which were his words used to convince his mother rugby was ok when he was told he couldn’t play football. Mark also played softball for many years on the Unum men’s team and made life long friends with several of his teammates. The best times of Mark’s life were undoubtedly the summers spent at Sebago Lake with family and close friends.Here’s to your ultimate final-final Dad…
Mark is survived by his wife, Tammy, his son Grady; his daughters Lindsay A Thibeault and companion Mike Farrell of Auburn & Lauren E. Thibeault of South Portland; his grandson Reese Michael Farrell of Auburn; his brother Alan F. and his wife Katherine and their children Nathan, Colleen, and Erin Thibeault all of Cape Elizabeth; his sister Sarah E. Thibeault of Scarborough and her son Matthew A. Phillips and his wife Carolyne and Noah J. Phillips and his companion Gina Rozzi all of South Portland; his godchild Victoria Brookings of South Portland; and his parents Paul and Elizabeth Thibeault of South Portland. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

PORTLAND - Dionicia Delos Santos Layug, 82 of St. John St., died Tuesday, December 18, at a local hospital. She was born October 9, 1925 in Tondo, Manila, Philippines, a daughter of Gavino and Andrea Viceo Delos Santos. Dionicia was educated in the Philippines and attended Santa Rita College.
She married Eduardo S. Layug, Sr. in Manila in 1942; he predeceased her April 5, 2005.
Mrs. Layug was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and very active in parish activities.
Survivors include five daughters: Rosalinda Layug of Portland, Nieves Rojo of Canada, Patricia Rios and her husband Carlos, Jr. of Canada, Mary Dowey and her husband Thomas of Portland, Gina Layug and her husband Michael Wagner of Portland, two sons; Marty Layug and his wife Norma of Portland, Eduardo S. Layug Jr. of Portland, three sisters: Elvira Viceo Delos Santos of Canada, Annie Cardenas of Canada, Lena Reyes of Chicago, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson.

Loretta M. A. Minervino, 86, of Portland died at her residence Monday, December 17, 2007. She was born December 9, 1921 in Westbrook, a daughter of John Edmond and Bernadette Gallant Martin. She attended Westbrook schools.
During her career, she worked for Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center, Barron Center Seaside Nursing Home and Jewish Home for the Aged as a Certified Nurses Aide. Loretta enjoyed her trips to the Maine Mall for shopping.
Loretta was predeceased by her husband Joseph, Sr. in 2002, a daughter, Bernadette Minervino in 1996; three brothers, Robert, Emile and Lionel Martin and a sister, Irene Bodghan.
Surviving are daughters; Mary Ann Proulx and her companion Charles Philip of Freeport, Jean Bowden and her husband Allen of Portland, sons; Thomas J. Minervino of Portland, and Joseph J. Minervino, Jr. and his wife Judy of Portland; sisters; Leona Arsenault of Portland and Dorothy Martin of Westbrook; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
An 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held, Friday, December 21st at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Burial will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.

Edwin F. Smith

PORTLAND - Edwin F. Smith, 81, of Portland, died December 14, 2007, at Maine Medical Center with his family by his side.
Edwin was born on June 6, 1926 in Hampden Maine, a son of Edwin L. and Faith I. Emerson Smith. He was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1944. He graduated from University of Maine at Orono in 1950.
He served in the Army during World War II and was in the European Theatre of Operations.
Edwin worked for 15 years as vice president at Maine Cement Products from 1950-1965. From 1965-1992, he was part owner of Hascall and Hall, Inc. and was a special masonry contractor. Edwin was a member of the Portland Kiwanis Club, Associated General Contractors of Maine, Cumberland Club, and a life member of the American Legion. Edwin and his wife wintered in Parrish, Florida for many years. Edwin was also an avid gardener in his free time.
He is predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Isabelle McCarthy Smith of Portland; his daughters Kathryn I. Smith of Scarborough, and Deborah D. Smith of Portland; his son E. Terrance and wife Barbara Linnehan Smith of Portland; his sister Lelma Russell of Davis, CA; and his brother Alden Smith and wife Barbara of Bangor.
An 11:00 AM Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, Tuesday December 18, at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal St., Portland. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements are made by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.

Louise Alice Wade

PORTLAND - Louise Alice Wade, 79, of Portland died, December 12, 2007, at Mercy hospital, with her loving family by her side. Louise was born August 10, 1928, a daughter of Pierre and Marie Corbeau.
Louise was a loving and devoted full time mother. After the death of her husband, Louise went to work full time at Holy Innocents while continuing to raise her children. She retired in 1989, but still enjoyed having monthly lunches with former co-workers, until a short time ago. A volunteer at Mercy Hospital, she loved making flower arrangements and knitting baby sets for the newborns. Her hobbies included cross-stitch, crossword puzzles, and reading. She also could beat anyone out there at Wheel of Fortune. Louise also loved to travel. Louise went as far as Israel, Italy, and Austria. She made many trips with her children and grandchildren to Disney World. Louise was a former communicant of St. Dominic’s Church and also St. Joseph’s Church.
Louise was predeceased by her husband Frederick William Wade and son Thomas E. Wade. Louise is survived by her sons Frederick J. Wade and wife Linda of South Portland; Brian P. Wade and wife Celeste of Portland; Mark W. Wade and wife Brenda of Alton; her daughters Elaine M. Spring and partner James Sloan of Portland; Holly Gillingham and husband John of Waterboro; grandchildren Katherine and Christie Spring, Ryan and wife Sharon of Poughkeepsie NY, Mallory and Alicia Wade, Jason and Travis Wade, Stephanie, Amy and Sara Gillingham; and brothers Paul Corbeau and wife Margie of Scarborough; Peter and Carol Corbeau of Westbrook.
A special thank you goes to Dr. Edward Greco and his staff for the many years of assistance and to Dr. Joel Cutler at Maine Cardiology for treating Louise like she was his own mother.

Prayers will be recited at 10:15 AM, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 17th at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Stevens Ave., Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
