Ruth Irene Richey, 87, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday morning August 13, 2001, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a brief illness. She was born on September 29, 1913, in McPherson, KS, to Clarence W. Cox and Emmagean R. Starr Cox. She married Gordon William Richey on May 31, 1941, in Lamar, MO, and he preceded her in death on August 14, 1970. Mrs. Richey worked as a cook at Moundville School, Moundville, MO, Tate’s Nursing Home and Manlove’s Nursing Home in Nevada. She then later worked for Scott’s Dime Store in Nevada for over 20 years. She was a member of the Community Christian Church and of the Rebekah Lodge for years. Survivors include one daughter, Lutie Jean Richey Schooley and son-in-law, Warren C. Schooley, Jr., Nevada, MO; one grandson, Heath Schooley and wife, Jennifer, Nevada, MO; one great-grandson, Brett Schooley, Nevada, MO, and one sister, Idena Ward, Milton-Freewater, OR. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, MO, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Friends may call now and until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Frances Mae Richards
Died On September 25, 2001
Frances Mae Richards, the daughter of Leo L. and Iris F. Williams Hord, was born March 23, 1948 in Nevada, Missouri and passed away September 25, 2001 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of 53 years, 6 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage to Paul Richards April 1, 1999 in Nevada, Missouri. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Richards was a Christian and had attended the Nazarene Church. Survivors include her husband, Paul, of the home, two daughters, Lisa Mojonnier of Springfield, MO, Marsha Pearce of Louisburg, KS, her mother and stepfather, Neale and Fern Swan of Nevada, MO,five grandchildren, Cheyenne Hagerman, Dustin Hagerman, Steven Pearce, Travis Pearce and Ashley Pearce , numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Rocky Joe Lusk, her father, Leo L. Hord, one brother, Leo R. Hord and one grandson, Adam Leo Hagerman. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday September 27, 2001 at the Community Christian Church with Pastor Wes Anderson officiating. Private interment will be at a later date in Moore Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Virginia Rice
Died On October 31, 2000
Virginia Lee Rice, 70, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2000, in Kirkwood, MO following an illness of two months. She was born February 3, 1930 in Roscoe, MO to the late Lacy Young and Ruby Ellen Suggs Young. She was married in Neosho, MO November 25, 1956 to Jack D Rice. He preceded her in death October 20, 1989. Virginia graduated from El Dorado Springs High School and attended Southwest Missouri State College. Before her marriage, she lived in Kansas City, MO working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She and her husband moved to Nevada in 1957. She was a member of the Community Christian Church in Nevada. During the early years of her marriage she was a homemaker and mother, active in her children's clubs and activities. For many years she was an Avon representative in Neavada. In 1972 she began working for the Nevada State School and Hospital, now known as Nevada Habilitation Center, as a switchboard operator. She was still employed there at the time of her death. Survivors include one son, James Rice, Pleasant Hill CA; one daughter, Lisa Lee Seibel, Kirkwood, MO; two granddaughters, Morgan Beth and Melanie Paige Seibel. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 4, 2000 at Milster Funeral Home with the reverend Dennis Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada, MO. Friends may call at Milster Funeral Home after 1:00 P.M. Thursday and until the time of service. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 6:30 and 8:00 P.M.

Thelma Reene
Died On April 18, 2001
Thelma L. Reene, 92, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, April 18, 2001, at Moore-Few Care Center. She was born July 30, 1908, in Harwood, MO, the daughter of George Lundy and Mary Isabelle O’Neal Lundy. She married Walter Reene and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1973. Mrs. Reene was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, Nevada, MO. Survivors include one son, Bob Collier, Nevada, MO, and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Houston. Graveside services will be Friday, April 20, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Paul Patterson officiating. Inez Raines

Inez S. Raines, 95, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, April 25, 2001, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born March 14, 1906, in Sheldon, MO, the daughter of Jesse Elmer Malcom and Nellie Josephine Manly Malcom. She married Carl A. Raines on October 16, 1943, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1991. Mrs. Raines made her home in Nevada most of her lifetime and in Kansas City from 1943-1970 where she worked for Betty Rose Coats & Suits Co. as lining setter for 20 years. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Nevada, MO. Survivors include two daughters, Alberta Bates, Independence, MO, and Dorothy Medvetsky, Nevada, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Carl, she was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Asa, William, Loyal, Melvin, Albert, Everett, and Kenneth Malcom and four sisters, Leona G. McDaniel, Geneva Kennedy, Sylvia Flehearty, and Serena Bliss. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 28, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Charles Polson

Charles Lee Polson, 72, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday night, September 24, 2001, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following an illness of several months. He was born January 12, 1929, in Adrian, MO, to Delbert Lee Polson and Phoebe Mae Clements Polson. He married Pauline Mae McKee on March 19, 1950, in Pasaic, MO, and she survives of Nevada. Mr. Polson was born and raised in Adrian, MO. He grew up in Bates County, MO. He attended school in Butler, MO. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He came to Nevada in 1967. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Nevada, MO. He drove a truck for 25 years. In 1975, he began working for 3-M Company in Nevada where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking out of his shop at home. He was an avid bowler for many years. Survivors in addition to his wife, Pauline, include three daughters, Cyndi Still, McKinney, TX, Paula Shafer, Nevada, MO, and Carolyn Van Meter, Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren, Joshua and Steven Still, Roger Shafer, and Erin and Grant Van Meter. He was preceded in death by one half-brother, Cleveland Daniels, and two sons, Curtis and Paul Polson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Dr. William Cox and Rev. Roger McKee officiating. Dorolese Piper

Dorolese M. Piper, 92, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at the Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada following a short illness. She was born on March 7, 1909 in Red Lake Falls, MN. She was married to Richard Lyle Piper in 1938 in Michigan and he preceded her in death in 1965. Dorolese came to Nevada in the mid 1970’s from California. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada, the Daughters of Isabella, and a member of the Friends and Neighbors Club in Nevada for several years. Following the death of her husband, she spent her working life as a sorority housemother at the University of Southern California, University of Michigan, and the Texas Women’s University. Survivors include one son, Msgt. Gary Bray Piper, Sr., Sheldon, MO, three grandsons, Gary Piper Jr., Kansas City, MO, Rick Piper, Sheldon, MO and Tom Piper, Bronaugh, MO; four great grandchildren; Spencer and Tucker Piper, Bronaugh, MO, Cydnee Piper and Mitch Topping, Sheldon, MO. In addition to her husband, eight siblings preceded her in death. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO. with Father Anthony Pileggi officiating. Elmo Pilcher

Elmo Leroy Pilcher, Sr., 70, Milo, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, December 26, 2000, at his home in Milo following a lengthy illness. He was born on February 13, 1930, in Montevallo, MO, to Clarence Monroe Pilcher and Clara V. Glover Pilcher. He married Hedwig Louise Lehman in 1954 in Germany, and she survives of the home. Mr. Pilcher was born and raised in the Montevallo area. He attended the Round Prairie Schools. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1948. He served in the Army during WW II in Germany where he met his wife, Hedwig. Following his time in the service, he returned home to Vernon County where he has lived ever since. He worked for Wysong Motors, Guthrie Motors, and Karl Lehmann’s Garage before retiring to farming. Survivors in addition to his wife, Hedwig, include two sons, Karl Lehmann, Nevada, MO, and Leroy Pilcher, Jr., Milo, MO; five daughters, Malita Roby, Milo, Gerdi Beaman, Nevada, MO, Mina Dressler, Centerville, TN, Mary Spencer, Hume, MO, and Carion Rumans, Milo, MO, 25 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers, Danny Pilcher and Albert “Duck” Pilcher, both of Nevada, MO, and Dean Pilcher, Horton, MO, and one sister, Edna Olson, Horton, MO. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Pilcher. Funeral services will be at Ferry Funeral Home, Friday, December 29, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Norman Highley officiating. William Peter, Jr.
Died On June 21, 2001
William DeWitt Peter, Jr., 75, Sheldon, MO, passed away Thursday morning, June 21, 2001, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO, following a lengthy illness. He was born September 22, 1925, in Reedley, CA, to William DeWitt Peter, Sr. and Julia Ingram Peter. He married Pauline R. Walker on October 14, 1944, in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2000. Mr. Peter was born in California and grew up in Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years being stationed on Guam during WW II. After his time in service, he moved to Reno, NV, where he worked as an x-ray technician. He came to Sheldon in 1987 and spent the remainder of his life there. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Lamar, MO Survivors include three daughters, Patty Scott, Sheldon, MO, Sandy Connelly, Nevada, MO, Darlene Pettipas, Sparks, NV, 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Pauline, he was preceded in death by one son, William D. Peter III; one brother, Jim Peter, and one sister, Barbara Wood. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon, MO, with Rev. Dave McLennan officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery. Jack Pearson
Died On December 11, 2001
Jack Albert Pearson, 78, Tulsa, OK, formerly of Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, December 11, 2001, at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa following a lengthy illness. He was born May 17, 1923, in Joplin, MO. He married Edna Keena on August 9, 1980, and she survives of the home. Mr. Pearson was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1941. He served in the Army during WW II in the Signal Corp. He worked for a number of years as legislative coordinator for Missouri State Chamber of Commerce. He retired as Executive Vice President of Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry. He was a member of the 32nd degree Masonic Lodge #43, Jefferson City, MO. Survivors in addition to his wife, Edna, include two daughters, Ginger Banta, Stuart, FL, and Pat Rainey, Sacramento, CA, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2001, at Newton Burial Park with John Nichols officiating. Friends may call Thursday evening and until 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Betty Painter
Died On February 25, 2001
Betty M. Painter, age 77 of Nevada, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2001, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 29, 1923, in Arno, Wyoming, to Earl R. and Stella Moskal Lester. She was married to D.T. Blakeman in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1966. On September 1, 1973, she was married to Cecil Painter in Kansas City, MO, and he survives of the home in Nevada. Betty worked for the Sweeney Grade School in Kansas City for thirteen years as a cafeteria manager. Following her marriage to Cecil she came to Nevada in 1976. She worked for Heartland Hospital in Nevada for ten years until her retirement. Survivors in addition to her husband Cecil include one daughter, Susan Dahl of Lee’s Summitt, MO; two sons, Gary Blakeman of Overland Park, KS, and Richard Blakeman of Okauchee, WI, five step-children, seven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. Wm. Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call from now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Rodney B "Rod" Page
Died On July 4, 2001
Rodney B "Rod" Page, the son of Irwin and Mona Brown Page, was born July 2, 1929 in Fort Scott, Kansas and died July 4, 2001 at his residence in Nevada, Missouri. Rod spent his "growing up" years in Fort Scott and Bronson, Kansas where he graduated from Bronson High School in 1947. He then lived briefly in California where he attended San Luis Obispo Agriculture College. He returned to Bronson to farm with his uncle, John Page, before marrying and buying his own farm. Rod was united in marriage to Pauline Heathman on April 6, 1952 in Fort Scott, Kansas. They had one daughter, Marsha Jo whom they adopted in May 1959. Pauline's brother, Loren Heathman, lived with them for seven years and was considered a son. After fourteen years of dairy and grain farming, he left the farm to pursue a career with Western Insurance Companies as a Company Representative. Rod and Pauline transferred to St. Cloud, Minnesota where they lived and worked for twenty two years. Upon retirement in 1986, they moved to Nevada, Missouri to be near their families. Then, as a retirement job, Rod drove a school bus for ten years. He loved the children and made lasting friendships with them, the teachers and bus drivers. Rod was converted and baptized as a young man and served God faithfully all of his life. His passions were missions and children. He was a member of First Christian Church of Nevada. He loved the children in the church wherever he attended. The children would sit with Rod in church so their parents could be involved in other church activities. Rod was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Jo and his parents, Irwin and Mona. Also family members Ava and John Page, Dr. John I. Page and Edwin Rodman. When Rod moved from earth to heaven he left many friends and family who will miss him greatly, including his wife, Pauline, of the home, his family, Dr. Joan Rodman, Virginia Page, Dr. Paul and Jeannie Page, Dr. Patrick and Chris Page, Gene and Sue Collins and their families, Pauline's family and their church family and friends. In addition he left to share the loss six International daughters from the Host program at Cottey College. They are Naoko Kimura, Mihaela Ghuica and Eileen Mahmadeli, all of Reno, Nevada, Akiko Kobayashi of Japan, Deanna Demianets of Finland and Nompucuko "Nomi" Mabaphe of South Africa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday July 6, 2001 at the First Christian Church of Nevada with Dr. Eldon Shaw, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday July 5th at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Nevada, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Haiti Missions in care of First Christian Church or Evergreen Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 894, Nevada, MO 64772.

Opal Oster
Died On September 14, 2001
Opal L Oster, 87, Nevada, MO passed away Friday morning, September 14, 2001 at Christian Health Care, Nevada, MO following an illness of several weeks. She was born March 27, 1914 in Nevada, MO to the late Aaron Daniel Emery and Ethel Ann Stanbaugh Emery. She was married December 9, 1939 in Kansas City, MO to Roy J. Oster who preceded her in death October 24, 1944. Mrs. Oster was raised in Moundville, MO area and graduated from Nevada High School in 1932. She attended Central Business College in Kansas City, MO and later worked as a purchasing agent for the Veterans Administration’s Hospital in Kansas City for 32 years retiring in 1977. She returned to Nevada in 1995 and spent the remainder of her life here. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Golden Gate Chapter #58 since 1940, holding several state offices. She was also a member of White Shrine and the Independence Boulevard Christian Church, Kansas City, MO. Survivors include one nephew, Leon Emery, Deerfield, MO; one niece, Mona McDowell, Nevada, MO; several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and spouse, one brother, Kenneth Lowell Emery, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, September 17, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, MO. Friends may call from now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Family suggests memorials may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Golden Gate Chapter #58.

Thomas O'Neal
Died On April 27, 2001
Thomas Dale O’Neal, 76, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday morning, April 27, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born June 25, 1924, in Rich Hill, MO, the son of Jefferson Ashby O’Neal and Teressa Vivian Opperman O’Neal. He married Dorothy Marie Hayes O’Neal on May 25, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1996 Mr. O’Neal was born and raised in Rich Hill and graduated from Rich Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the South Pacific. After the war, he spent many years breeding and training registered greyhounds. He lived in Mountain View, MO, from 1955-1965. In 1965, he and his wife, Dorothy, opened Tee Dee O’s Café in Nevada, MO, which they operated for 30 years. He also operated Galmey Café, at Pomme de Terre Lake. He was a lifetime member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of BPOE #564, Nevada, MO. Survivors include one son, Richard Lynn O’Neal, Nevada, MO; two daughters, Peggy Diana Ellis and Deborah Dawn Gilbert, both of Nevada, MO; seven grandchildren, Bryan Lechman, Joplin, MO, Monica Compton, Boulder, CO, Spring Lechman, Springfield, MO, Elisha Ellis, Celeste Gilbert, Emmaly Ellis, and Faith Gilbert, all of Nevada, MO; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Keith, Kansas City, MO; one brother, Jeff O’Neal, Hutchinson, KS, and one sister, Mary Johnson, Topeka, KS. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Alex and Charles O’Neal. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Mike Hutchens and John O’Neal officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 6:00-7:00 Monday, April 30, 2001, at the funeral home. Mary Ogle

Mary Lena Ogle, 65, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born February 9, 1936, in Cedar County, MO, to Willis Windley McCurdy and Margaret Carriker McCurdy. She married Robert E. Ogle on February 4, 1955, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Ogle lived most of her life around the Nevada area. She was a homemaker. Survivors include four sons, Robert Ogle, Independence, KS, Kevin Ogle, Milo, MO, William Ogle, Nevada, MO, and Steve Ogle, Atoka, OK; four daughters, Mary Nimmo, Creighton, MO, Linda Carter, Harwood, MO, Lena Gose, Nevada, MO, and Bonnie Mendoza, Ft. Scott, KS; 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 17, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Duane Ogle

Duane C. Ogle, 73, Odessa, MO, formerly of Nevada, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 9, 2001, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO, following an illness of several weeks. He was born January 14, 1927, in Milan, MO, to James Russell Ogle and Maggie Ethel Claybough Ogle. He married JoAnn Angel on April 3, 1949, in Nevada, MO, and she preceded him in death on April 9, 1972. He later married Helen Stevens in 1975 in Miami, OK, and she preceded him in death on May 14, 1989. He then married Mildred Thoenen Conner on November 16, 1989, in Miami, OK, and she survives of the home. Duane was born and raised in Milan, MO. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. After the war he came to Vernon County where he resided until 1974. From 1975 to 1995 he lived in Purdin, MO, and has resided in Odessa the past five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Odessa. He made his living as a farmer and a trucker. Survivors in addition to his wife, Mildred, include four sons, Steve and Randy Ogle, both of Nevada, MO, Mike Ogle, Joplin, MO, and Jeff Ogle, Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, eight stepchildren, and 21 step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Junior Ogle, Grain Valley, MO, and Nile Ogle, Nevada, MO; two sisters, Golda Ames, Nevada, MO, and Violet Ogle, Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Wayman, and Kenneth Ogle and two sisters, Joan Coventry and Winnie Ames. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 12, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Odessa with Rev. Terry Hodges officiating. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Orville Ogle
Died On November 9, 2000
Orville Edgar Ogle, 87, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 9, 2000, at the Barone Alzheimer Care Center in Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. He was born July 13, 1913, in Walker, MO, to Edgar Monroe Ogle and Della Dean Mullinex Ogle. He married Mary Elizabeth Ensor on January 14, 1933, in Nevada, MO. She preceded him in death in 1985. Mr. Ogle was born and raised in Walker, MO. He moved to California in 1936 and worked for McDonnel Douglas Corporation. He moved to Tulsa in 1941. Then he returned to Vernon County in 1943 and spent the remainder of his life here working the family farm. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Trower, Walker, MO; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death in addition to his wife, by one son, Dean Ogle; one brother, Almon “Toots” Ogle, and one sister, Velda Cox. Funeral services will be Monday, November 13, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home with Don Gundy officiating. Interment will follow in Green Mound Cemetery, Harwood, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Barone Alzheimer Care Center in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Mary Nixon
Died On July 25, 2001
Mary Elizabeth Nixon, 80, Warrensburg, MO, formerly of Nevada, passed away Wednesday afternoon in Select Specialty Hospital, Overland Park, KS following a brief illness. She was born November 5, 1920 in Detroit, MI to the late Leslie K. Hunt and Inez Marie Lundy Hunt. She was married January 1, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA to George S. Nixon. He preceded her in death June 4, 1980. Mrs. Nixon moved to Nevada, with her family in 1956. She worked as assistant manager for the Sonic Drive-in here in Nevada for 13 years. She also did volunteer work at the Nevada State Hospital. She was a member of Nevada Pine Street Baptist Church. In December, 1999 she moved to Warrensburg, MO to be closer to family, where she lived the remainder of her lifetime. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Edwinette Stokesberry, Virginia Beach, VA, Deborah Raye Johnston, Warrensburg, MO; one son, Shelby Wayne Nixon, Kansas City, MO; one step-son, Samuel Carol, Daly City, CA; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty J. Davis, Okmulgee, OK. Along with her parents and spouse, one son Charles Nixon and one half-brother preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Milster Funeral Home with Dr. Melvin Mabra officiating. Following cremation, interment will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. Friends may call between 12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m. Friday at Milster Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday morning between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Marjorie Nikodem

arjorie Louise Nikodim, 62, Joplin, formerly of Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday night, September 25, 2001, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, following a lengthy illness. She was born April 20, 1939, in Stockton, MO, to Curtis Edward Berry and Nellie Rosa Copeland Berry. She married John Edward Nikodim on June 26, 1954, in El Dorado Springs, MO. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1995. Mrs. Nikodim was born and raised in Stockton. She attended Rich Hill Country School near Stockton. She and her husband lived in El Dorado for a time before coming to Nevada in 1965. She worked for Key Industries for 18 years as a seamstress. She also worked for Nevada Habilitation Center for 12 years until her retirement in 1994. She has lived in Joplin the past six years. Survivors include one son, Steve Nikodim and his wife Beth, Rogers, AR; one daughter, Jenny Shilling and her husband, J. D., Joplin, MO; three grandchildren, Brandon and Clayton Shilling, both of Joplin, MO, and Carrisa Nikodim, Rogers, AR; one great-grandson, Michael Shilling, Joplin, MO; two sisters, Betty Tuma, Belleville, KS, and Susie Price, Stockton, MO; one brother, Joe Berry, Stockton, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosie McClellan, Blanch Smith, and Lorene Reeves, and one brother, Donald Wayne Berry. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Pastor Lowell Sartin officiating. Interment will follow in Virgil City Cemetery, Virgil City, MO. Lura Neptune

Lura C. Neptune, 96, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday night, June 5, 2001, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 14, 1904, in Madison, NE, to James L. Cornett and Hattie Hackler Cornett. She married Harry R. Neptune on June 5, 1972, in Pleasant Hill, MO. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1987. Mrs. Neptune made her home in Nevada since 1954. She was a member of the Reorganized Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints since 1928. She also attended the United Methodist Church. Most of her lifetime was spent in Dederick, MO, and Tampa, KS, where she graduated from high school. Survivors include four grandchildren, Steve Lasley, Wichita, KS, Charles Lasley, and Lydia Lasley, both of Jefferson City, MO, and Annalura Hinshaw, Annadale, VA, and two great-grandchildren, Bryce Hinshaw, and Heather Holder. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sons, C. M. Lasley, Jr., and Gilbert Lasley, and one brother, Judson Cornett. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Newton Burial Park with John Nichols officiating. Mary Cornelia Myers, 77, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday December 9, 2001, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born October 18, 1924, in Henrietta, MO, to George Andy Moppin and Mamie Pearl Mershon Moppin. She married Melvin Ray Foley on July 4, 1946, in Richmond, MO, and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1964. She later married Forest Myers in May 1980 in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death in 1990. Mrs. Myers was born and raised in Henrietta and the Richmond area of Missouri. She moved to Vernon County in 1955 and spent virtually the rest of her life here. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Nevada and various organizations at her church. She worked for many years as a seamstress for Nelly Don in Nevada, retiring in 1980. Survivors include two sons, Melvin Foley, Milo, MO, and Mark Foley, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Karen Campbell, Nevada, MO; three stepsons, Danny Myers, Springdale, AR, Lonnie Myers, Van Buren, AR, and Troy Myers, Pawcatuck, CT, eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Melvin Moppin, Climax Springs, MO, Albert Moppin, Grain Valley, MO, D. C. Moppin, Cameron, MO, George Andy Moppin, Kansas City, MO, and Stanley Moppin, Rayville, MO; four sisters, Effie Maynard, Faucett, MO, JoAnn McConnaughey, Bonner Springs, KS, Eva Willard, Independence, MO, and Glenda Viles, Richmond, MO. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Gabriel Foley, two brothers, and two sisters. He was born November 4, 1973 in Nevada, MO to Richard E. Myers and Joyce E. Cain Myers. He was married May 9, 1997 in Miami, OK to Mary Lou Fowler. Erik was raised in Walker, MO. He attended school in Walker and graduatd from Nevada High School in 1992. He graduated from Nevada Vo-Tech welding school. Besides welding, he worked as a mechanic in Nevada and traveled doing construction and painting. He was a member of the Eagle's Lodge in Nevada. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Myers, Deerfield, MO; one son, Steven Michael Myers, Harwood, MO' one step-daughter, Nicole Georges, Deerfield, MO; parents, Richard E. Mayers and Joyce E. Myers, Walker, MO; paternal grandfather, Richard M. Myers, Nevada, MO; maternal grandparents, John J. and Evelyn Faye Cain, Cainsville, MO; one brother, Philip L. Myers, Walker, MO. He was preceded in death by one half-sister, Darlene Lynn Schlagel and paternal grandmother, Margerette Myers.
