Elaine Birks, 61, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday night, March 18, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born February 19, 1941, in Nevada, MO, to Floyd Melvin Brundidge and Ola Pearl Roberts Brundidge. She married Paul David Birks in 1963 in Salem, OR, and he preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Birks grew up in Nevada. She lived in Oregon for 10 years where she met her husband. She came back to Nevada in 1972. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nevada. She worked at Key Industries in Nevada for 21 years, retiring in 1994. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Brown, Mindenmines, MO; one son, Donald Birks, Monticello, AR; four grandchildren; mother, Ola Brundidge, Nevada, MO; two sisters, Mary Burnham and Maxine Claunts, both of Nevada, MO, and one brother-in-law, Mike Rothenberger, Nevada, MO. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Helen Rothenberger. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2002, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Nevada, with Pastor Dennis Mix officiating. Interment

Fae Eileen Allard Bishop

Fae Eileen Allard Bishop, the daughter of Walter Edwin and Odessa May Marshall Brown, was born February 2, 1924 in Harwood, Missouri and passed away December 19, 2001 at the Moore-Few Care Center at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 17 days. Mrs. Bishop was united in marriage to Douglas Harold Allard March 3, 1944 in Osawatomie, Kansas and he preceded her in death March 28, 1962. She was united in marriage to Ronald D. Bishop August 24, 1980 in Nevada, Missouri; he preceded her in death November 16, 1999. Mrs. Bishop moved to Nevada in 1962 where she was employed in the accounting department at Farm and Home Savings until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Douglas Allard and his wife, Shirley, of Nevada, Missouri, two grandsons, Douglas Allard and Corey Allard and his wife, Jenny, one brother, Walter "Lefty" Brown of Athens, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mae E. Jones (her twin) and Jane Duffield and one brother, Charles Brown. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 21, 2001 at Newton Burial Park with Dr. William C. Cox officiating. Anareta Irene Bloesser,93, Nevada, MO, formerly of Walker, MO,Passed away Sunday morning, December 23, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO. She was born October 20, 1908 in Stotesbury, MO to the late John W. Johnson and Nannie Jane Thomas Johnson. She was married December 9, 1926 in Stotesbury, MO to Ralph Bloesser. He preceded her in death February 13, 1985. Mrs. Bloesser was born and raised in Vernon County, MO. After her marriage she traveled with her husband with his construction work until 1940 when they returned to Walker, MO to farm. She lived the remainder of her life in Walker and Nevada, MO. She was a member of the Walker Christian Church. She was also a member of the Walker Order of Eastern Star until 1984 and was a past Matron. She was a charter member of the Blue Mound Grange. She was a homemaker and helped her husband farm for 45 years. Survivors include one son, Tom Bloesser, Walker, MO; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, John Bloesser, one daughter, Vivian Ann Center, two brothers, Leslie Johnson and Raymond Johnson and one sister Vivian McGlone. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with pastors Kimberlee Lekas and Don Renken officiating. Interment

Reitha M. Bond, the daughter of John W. and Clara F. Hartsock Underwood, was born March 18, 1917 in Garden City, Missouri and died August 16, 2002 at her residence at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 28 days. She was united in marriage to Harold Bond on July 16, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas and he died November 15, 1989. Mrs. Bond was a homemaker. She attended the Pentecostal Assembly Church. Survivors include one brother, Roy Underwood of Casper, Wyoming, a half-sister, Jonula Hatley of Texas, a sister-in-law, Mary Underwood of Nevada, Missouri, six nephews, four nieces, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Neal, Clinton and Ralph and one sister, Thelma and by three infant brothers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday August 21, 2002 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with Mr. John Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery. Carl Wayne Bowen, 77, Nevada, MO passed away Friday evening, November 15, 2002 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born August 24, 1925 in Willow Springs, MO to the late Hugh Columbus Bowen and Mary Culpen Bowen. He was married December 8, 1945 in Mountain Grove, MO to Frankie Nell Branstetter Bowen. She survives of the home. Mr. Bowen served in the United States Army during WW II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in rural Willow Springs. He moved from West Plaines, MO to Nevada in 1960. He worked various jobs as a laborer. He loved to work in his garden and enjoyed woodworking. He was a good father and loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with his wife, survivors include one son, Randall W. Bowen, Moundville, MO; three daughters, Carleta Burnett, Belton, MO, Frankie Joy Jeffries, Nevada, MO, Pamela Bowen, Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren,Valerie Dawn Tabler, Belton, MO, John Randall Jeffries, Goose Creek, SC, Jordan Robert Jeffries, Nevada, MO, Joel Bowen Jeffries, Nevada, MO; two great-grandchildren, Quinton Riley Tabler and Ava Loren Tabler, both of Belton, MO; one brother, Marven Bowen, Atchison, KS; four sisters, Elsie Wake, White Salmon WA, Irene Breem, state of CA, Louise Jacobs, Las Vegas, NV, Lillie Hundley, Rushville, MO. Joe "Sonny" Bradham

Joe 'Sonny' Bradham, 86, Nevada, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Specialty Select Hospital, Overland Park, KS. He was born October 9, 1915, in Rector, AR, to Kelly Leonard Bradham and Flora Burton Bradham. He married Sibbya Brockman of Nevada on February 10, 1945, in Nevada, MO. She preceded him in death on June 24, 1998. He attended schools in Rector, AR, graduating in 1933. He enlisted in the Army in 1940. He was in Dutch Harbor waiting for assignment when it was bombed by Japanese who also took Attu and Kiska at the end of the Aleutian Chain. The next day he was sent with heavy strength to the Aleutian Chain where he remained until the Japanese defeat at Midway. Bradham then came to Camp Clark until his discharge in 1945. Joe attended Tasope' School of Photography in Aurora, MO. He was in partnership with Pierre Weltmer at Graphic Arts Studio and also worked at Nevada State Hospital until his retirement in 1977. He was a charter member, board member, past President, head professional, pro-shop manager, and marshall, of the Nevada Country Club, and a member of the Nevada Elks Lodge. Survivors include one son, Kelly Bradham, Nevada, MO, one daughter, Cam Owen and husband Jim, Nevada, MO; three grandchildren, Corey Owen and friend Lisa Butrum, Independence, MO, and Elexa and Chase Owen, Nevada, MO. In addition to his wife Sibbya, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Michael Bradham in 1970. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at William E. Wynn, Jr. Gymnasium at Nevada High School with John Nichols officiating. Interment

Debrah Green Branton, age 50 of Nevada, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin following a lengthy illness. She was born the youngest of ten children on September 15, 1952 in Winnsboro, LA to Robert Clayton Green and Edith M. Hootsell Green. She was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church while in Louisiana and a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. She enjoyed volunteering with ministries for the needy and had her dog as her constant companion. She is survived by her best friend, Terri Bloom of Nevada. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Ferry Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Sharp officiating. Lois O. Bright, 71, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 11, 2002, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born November 23, 1931, in Milo, MO, to Clarence Nichols and Louise Frazier Nichols. She married Everett J. 'Buck' Bright on June 1, 1947, in Milo, MO, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Bright was a 1946 graduate of El Dorado Springs High School. She grew up in Milo. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and of the Faith Class of the church. She was a homemaker most of her life. Later in life, she went to work as a cook at Franklin School and then became a cashier for Nevada Middle School Cafeteria. Survivors in addition to her husband Everett include, two daughters, Ginger McConnaughey, and Sandra Hayes and her husband Walter P., all of Nevada, MO; one son, Mickey M. Bright, Greenwood, MS; three grandchildren, Marla Vaughn, Jeremy and Ashley Hayes, all of Nevada; two great-grandchildren, Bodi and Miranda Vaughn, both of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Wilbur and Clarence Nichols. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Revs. Jay Borders and Melvin Mabra officiating. Interment

Elmer K. Brown, the son of Ellery H. and Nancy Jane Courier Brown was born February 28, 1927 in White Cloud, Kansas and died December 27, 2002 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 29 days. Mr. Brown was a retired truck driver, working for Kunchek Trucking, Hofer Trucking and Van Tassel Trucking, all in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the United States Navy. Survivors include two sons, Kenny Brown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Randy Brown of Parsons, Kansas, three daughters, Candy Baker, Sherry Martin and Tammy Brown, all of Pittsburg, Kansas; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Brown, July 2, 1983, and one brother. Graveside services will be Monday December 30, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas with Pastor Daryl Gaddy officiating. Services are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Christie Ann Brown, 18, Rich Hill, MO, passed away Thursday night, October 9, 2002, suddenly as the result of an automobile accident. She was born April 23, 1984, in Hayward, CA, to Peter Brown and Mary Helen Austin. Christie attended Archie High School in Archie, MO. She later moved to Rich Hill, MO, in 1999. She was currently attending Cottey College in Nevada to achieve a degree in music and voice. She was a good student whom loved singing and music. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had many, many friends. Survivors include her mother, Mary Austin, Rich Hill, MO; father, Peter Brown, Independence, MO; two brothers, Bobby Brown, and Michael Martinez, both of Rich Hill, MO; two sisters, Chelsey Martinez, and Kassi Austin, both of Rich Hill, MO; maternal grandmother, Nancy Austin, Rich Hill, MO; three aunts, two uncles, and numerous cousins. Christie was preceded by her paternal grandparents, Robert Brown and Mariafey Buckner; and maternal grandfather, Kennerd Austin. Omega 'Mickey' L. Brown Dove, 83, Nevada, MO passed away Thursday morning at Christian Health Care of Nevada. She was born November 15, 1919 in Flatwood, MO to Benjamin Chastain and Belle Ford Chastain. She was married December 21, 1935 in Stotesbury, MO to Roy H Brown. He preceded her in death February 5, 1970. She then married Cleo E. Dove, June 4, 1977 in Mt. Vernon, MO. He preceded her in death June 14, 1991. Mrs. Dove was raised in the Bennett Springs, MO area. She attended the Flatwood School in the Bennett Springs area. She came to Stotesbury, MO at the age of 13. She came to Nevada in 1945 and lived the remainder of her life here. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada. She worked for Key Industries and Snower Manufacturing in Nevada, Nevada State Hospital, Knotts and Dobbs Hat Factory, Nellie Don Manufacturing and retired from Junior House Manufacturing in 1985. She was a member of the Fiddlers and Pickers Club, Ft, Scott, KS. Survivors include two sons, Leroy Brown, Pomme de Terre Lake, MO, Larry Brown, Kansas City, MO; four step-children, Carrol Dove, Sulfer Rock, AR, Gene Dove, Highlandville, MO, Frances Rowen, Mt. Vernon, MO, Beth Dove, Waynesville, MO; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren; one sister Maggie Edwards, Nevada, MO; two brothers Clarence Chastain, Lebanon, MO, Martin Chastain, Lebanon, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. William D. "Bill" Bryant

William D. "Bill" Bryant, the son of Sam and Edna Stovall Bryant, was born March 18, 1932 in Bowling Green, Kentucky and died June 10, 2002 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 22 days. Mr. Bryant received his B.A. degree in Business Administration from Steed College in Johnson City, Tennessee and then continued with graduate work at East Tennessee State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. Mr. Bryant served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His tours of duty included 3 years in Darmstadt, Germany, Thule, Greenland, Okinawa and Korea. Awards included the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Mr. Bryant was first employed as club manager for the Annapolis Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland, the Lakewood Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri, the Mattoon Country Club in Mattoon, Illinois and lastly, as club manager for the Nevada Country Club. He was united in marriage to LaMae Neas on September 21, 1998 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Survivors include his wife, LaMae, of the home, six sons, Bobby Briggs of Tallahassee, Florida, Dale Bryant of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Ted Bryant of Healdsburg, California, Jeff, Matthew and Joseph Swearingen, all of Nevada, Missouri, two daughters, Dolores Moore of Johnson City, Tennessee, Karen McLaughlin of Independence, Missouri, nine grandchildren, Jeremy Moore, Alex Moore, Monte Bryant, Travis Bradshaw, Leann McLaughlin, Jadyn Swearingen, Carter Swearingen, and Lauren and Brooke Silvola, his grandmother, Eva Lee Reed of Jonesboro, Tennessee, one nephew, Jayson Wessley of Houston, Texas, one niece, Marie Wessley of Nevada, Missouri, other numerous nieces and nephews, two great nephews, Nathan Wessley and Dalton Wessley, both of Nevada, Missouri, one great niece, Megan Wessley of Nevada, Missouri, his father-in-law, Cawood I. Bobby Dean Budd, 72, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday morning, October 10, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born October 2, 1930, in Dederick, MO, to Robert Ellsworth Budd and Edith Phillips Budd. Bobby spent virtually all of his life in Vernon County. He is survived by one brother, Marvin Budd, Nevada, MO; several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Wanda Floyd Budd, and Ora Eldon Budd, and one sister, Delcie Marie Setty. Bonavie Emalyne Burrus, 88, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Ft. Scott, KS, following a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1914, in Bloomfield, NE, to Bud Floyd Allen LaFarge and Ella Letitia Clark LaFarge. She married Oran Everett Burrus on December 27, 1933, in Ponca, NE. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1971. Mrs. Burrus was born and raised in Nebraska. She came to this area in December of 1937 and spent the remainder of her life here. She was a member of the Hume Baptist Church in Hume, MO. She worked as a nurse for 25 years at Nevada City Hospital, retiring in 1980. Survivors include two sons, Oran A. Burrus, Nevada, MO, and Elvy Burrus, Walker, MO; two daughters, Dorothy Busbea, Kansas City, MO, and Ella Mae Brooks, Nevada, MO, seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rupert LaFarge, Butler, MO, and Faye H. LaFarge, Ft. Scott, KS, and one sister, Edna Herring, Hume, MO. In addition to her husband, Oran, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Lisa Dawn Cargill, Oran and Travis Burrus; two sisters, Dorothy Royer and Darlene Farrell, and one brother, Buddy LaFarge. Irvin James 'Buddy' Buske, 82, Nevada, MO passed away Friday evening, November 1, 2002, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. He was born May 23, 1920 in Dickey County ND to the late Bernard James Buske and Anna Louise Iverson Buske. Mr. Buske was raised in North Dakota and came to Vernon County in 1963 where he spent the remainder of his life. He attended Deerfield Baptist Church, Deerfield, MO. He made his living as a farmer and also worked for 20 years at Producers Grain Company in Nevada. Survivors include two nieces, Judy Smith, Monterey, CA, Susan Druen, Belton, MO; Two nephews, Dale McCall, Dallas, TX, Jeffrey Sjolin, Nairobi Kenya, Africa; numerous other relatives and friends. Mildred Lorene Butterfield, 89, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday December 9, 2002, at Christian Health Care in Nevada following a brief illness. She was born October 5, 1913, in Moundville, MO, to Roland Franklin Whiteside and Lula Florence Beck Whiteside. She married Dale Butterfield on October 6, 1934, in Bronaugh, MO, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Butterfield grew up in Moundville and was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. She graduated in the last graduating class of Moundville High School in 1931. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Nevada, MO, Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah's, and White Shrine. She retired from Nevada State Hospital after 30 years as music therapist. Survivors in addition to her husband Dale include two sons, Darrell Butterfield, Des Moines, IA, and Kenny Butterfield, Nevada, MO; four daughters, Elaine Mullins, Carol Lyons, and Joan Rives, all of Nevada, and Karen Stevenson, Moundville, MO, 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Wendall Whiteside, Sun City West, AZ, and Bob Whiteside, Kansas City, MO, and one sister, Irma Scrutchfield, Nevada, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Dale Butterfield, and one grandson, Ronnie Demaree. will follow in Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
