Elsie Crum
Died On January 30, 2002
Elsie Marie Crum, age 94, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, January 30, 2002, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born on March 3, 1907 in Ovid, CO to Rudolf Neugebauer and Marjorie Smyth Neugebauer. On December 26, 1933 she was married to Riley Crum in Pueblo, CO and he preceded her in death in 1971. Elsie was raised in Ovid, CO and moved to a farm in Holly, CO as a teenager. She met her husband who had moved from Vernon County to Holly, CO to homestead. Following their marriage they continued to homestead, until 1944. From there they moved to Pueblo where Riley worded in a steel mill for two years. They moved to Vernon County in the summer of 1946. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm, where she resided the remainder of her life. Elsie is survived by two daughter's, Ila Maxine Conner and her husband Bob of Nevada, and Minnie Jo Gash and her husband Bill of Moundville, 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren, a brother, Dale Neugebauer, Fountain, CO a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Crum, Pooler, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Lee Crum , three brothers Eugene, Henry, and Alford Neugebauer, one sister, Josie McCalb, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with John Nichols officiating. Interment will following in the Shiloh Cemetery, Barton, CO. Friends may call from now until the hour of service at the funeral home. Those who wish may contribute to the American Cancer Society c/o Ferry Funeral Home 301 S. Mararet Cubbage
Died On April 8, 2003
Margaret Evelyn (Neely) Cubbage, 81, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Mercy Hospital, Ft. Scott, KS, following a lengthy illness. She was born October 14, 1921, in El Dorado Springs, MO, to Rueben A. Neely and Vernie McMillian Neely. She married Ermon Earl Cubbage on June 28, 1942, in Nevada, MO in a double ceremony with her sister Rena marrying Ermon's brother Emery. Ermon survives of the home. Following marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Cubbage spent their entire 60 years together on their Rt. 2 Nevada farm. She loved most of all her family. She was a homemaker, loved to cook, especially known for hot rolls, pies and angel food cake. She gardened, raised chickens and ducks, drove tractors, grain trucks and bought baby calves. She was a member of the Walker Christian Church, Walker, MO. Survivors in addition to her husband include one daughter, Bobbie Jean Hamersley and her husband, Eddie, Walker, MO; one son, Donald Cubbage and his wife, Vernille, Nevada, MO, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rena Cubbage and Joan Markham, both of El Dorado Springs, MO; one brother, Rueben E. Neely, Walker, MO, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Elmer Neely; two sisters, Grace Neely and Nora Phillips, and one granddaughter, Sherri Cubbage Prewitt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Tim Brewer and Rev. Alan Black officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, April 9 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Walker Christian Church.

Charles Culbertson

Charles Allen Culbertson, 73, Nevada, MO passed away Sunday morning, February 23, 2003, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, MO. He was born November 3, 1929, in Nevada, MO, to Herschel Wade Culbertson and Wanda Stella Hoffman Culbertson. Mr. Culbertson was raised in Nevada, MO, and graduated from Nevada High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following the service he returned to Vernon County where he spent the remainder of his life. He made his living as a truck driver. He was a member of the Nevada VFW Post #2175 and the Nevada Fraternal Order of Eagle's Lodge #5770. Survivors include one daughter, Alana Gayman, Nevada, MO; two granddaughters, Jenna Mosher and Whitney Mosher, both of Nevada, MO; one great-granddaughter, Serenity Wright, Nevada, MO, and his mother, Wanda Culbertson, Nevada, MO. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call from now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Family suggests memorials may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation.

George "Tommy" Dahmer
Died On May 2, 2002
George Thomas 'Tommy' Dahmer, 91, Milo, MO, passed away Thursday night, May 2, 2002, at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee's Summit, MO, following a brief illness. He was born September 26, 1910, in Nevada, MO. He was the son of George Vest Dahmer and Ada Clair Ashley Dahmer of Nevada, MO. He married Mildred McKnight on June 10, 1933, in Liberty, MO, and she survives of the home. Tommy attended schools in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1928. He loved sports and played football his senior year. Tommy continued his education at a business college in Kansas City, MO, before returning to Milo where he was a farmer and cattleman his entire life, taking pride in his Hereford cattle. In his younger years, Tommy was an active leader in the 4-H club of Milo, MO. He was Vice-President of Marvin Chapel Cemetery for more than twenty years. He was a member of Milo Baptist Church and also attended Calvary Baptist Church, Nevada, MO. Tommy was a good husband, father, and neighbor and will be sadly missed by all. Survivors in addition to his wife Mildred of 69 years, include four sons, Larry, Gerald, and Steven Dahmer of Lee's Summit, MO, and George Dahmer of Pleasant Hill, MO, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Forest and his wife Helen, Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Woody, Floyd, and Duane Dahmer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Revs. Melvin Mabra and John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Family receives friends 6:30-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.

Harry Dean
Died On January 20, 2003
Harry Lynn Dean, 89, Horton, MO, passed away Monday, January 20, 2003, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a brief illness. He was born February 24, 1913, in Nevada, MO, to Guy Elvis Dean and Eula Mae Martin Dean. He married Helen Rutledge on December 21, 1940, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. Harry was born and raised in the Nevada area and spent virtually his entire life here. He graduated from Nevada High School. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II in the remount division in India, Burma, and China. Following the service he returned to Vernon County where he farmed for a lifetime. He was a member and served as a Deacon in the Rinehart Christian Church, Richards, MO. Survivors in addition to his wife, Helen, include two sons, Don Dean, Jasper, MO, and Steve Dean, Horton, MO; one daughter, Marsha Forkner, Horton, MO; five grandchildren, Jeff Dean, Indianapolis, IN, Tiffany Hill, and Adam Dean, both of Horton, MO, Jennifer Brown, Phoenix, AZ, and Jill Forkner, Columbia, MO; three great-grandchildren, Chance, MaKenna and Sidney Hill, all of Horton, MO, and one sister, Ethel McComas, Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Rinehart Christian Church, Richards, MO with Gary Reed and Steve Dean officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. Friends may call now and until 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Richard DeAntoni

Richard Anton DeAntoni, 62, Nevada, MO, passed away Saturday night, July 6, 2002, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO, following a brief illness. He was born December 17, 1939, in San Francisco, CA, the son of Hugo and Hazel DeAntoni. He married Elizabeth Kay Hope on September 6, 1959, in Reno, NV, and she survives of the home. Mr. DeAntoni was born and raised in San Francisco. He was a Catholic. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years and later served in the Coast Guard for 14 years, retiring in 1988 in Long Beach, CA. Following retirement, he and his wife spent time traveling. He moved to Ft. Scott, KS, in 1993 and to Nevada in 2000. Survivors in addition to his wife Elizabeth 'Linda' of the home, include one daughter, Cherri Burlingame, Nevada, MO; one son, Richard Anton DeAntoni, Jr., Ft. Scott, KS, and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating.

Norma Depue

Norma J. Depue, 76, Nevada, MO, passed away Saturday morning, April 13, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born September 22, 1925, in Kansas City, KS, to Joseph Paul Herman Greiner and Opal Elizabeth Washburn Greiner. Norma was born in Kansas City, KS, and raised in Barton County. She was a graduate of Lamar High School in 1943. She worked at the Nevada State Hospital for 10 years from 1976-1986. She lived in El Dorado Springs, MO, for 20 years prior to coming to Nevada in 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Doubleday and her husband, Carmen Schell, Louisburg, KS; one son, Steve A. Sloniker and his wife, Denise, Milo, MO; six grandchildren, Joe and Jared Sloniker, both of Nevada, MO, and Jay Sloniker, Dearborn, MO, Jim Wagoner, Plattsburg, MO, John Wagoner, Kansas City, MO, and Jennifer Klingler, Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Deane Harris, Lamar, MO, and Kathryn Smith, Stockton, MO. She was preceded in death by one daughter, E. Sue Joyce in 1993, and one brother, Everett Greiner. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at El Dorado Springs City Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, MO. The family will receive friends at Ferry Funeral Home Monday evening between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Barbara Depue

Barbara Jewell Depue, 47, Nevada, passed away Wednesday night, March 6, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center suddenly. She was born in Kansas City, MO, to Richard Elmer Hand and Nadine Cleo Marvin Hand. She was married to Harley Depue in 1977. Barbara was born in Kansas City, MO, and came to Nevada in 1970 from Kansas City. She attended Nevada High School. She was employed by Nevada State Hospital for five years. She worked for Nevada Manor as a nurse. Survivors include one son, David Depue of the home; one daughter, Amber Depue, of the home; her mother, Nadine Brower, Nevada, MO; two brothers, Larry Hand, Nevada, MO, and Richard Hand, Neosho, MO; three sisters, Karen Roberts, Nevada, MO, Sherry Weber, LaHarpe, KS, and Tammy Wehmeyer, Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Hand and sister, Teresa Collier. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Shelby Brandt officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Charles Dick

Charles Leonard Dick, 70, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, October 1, 2002, at Christian Health Care in Nevada, MO. He was born June 21, 1932, in Edgerton, MO, to Paul Dick and Marvie Grace Tanner Dick. Mr. Dick served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. The body was cremated and no services are planned. Buford Dickenson

Buford Leroy Dickenson, 69, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO, following a brief illness. He was born April 7, 1933, in Lamar, MO, to Clarence R. Dickenson and Zona Mae Gibson Dickenson. He married Wanda Richardson on June 5, 1958, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Dickenson was born and raised in Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School. He attended college for two years at Pittsburg State College. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following the service he returned to Lamar where he made his living with the Missouri Highway Department in construction retiring in 1996. He has lived in Nevada the past 44 years. He was a member of the Church of The Nazarene, Nevada, and of the FOE #3770 in Nevada. Survivors in addition to his wife, Wanda, include one son, Mark Dickenson, Springfield, MO; one daughter, Sherri Griffin and her husband, Raymond, Nevada, MO; three grandchildren, Raymond Griffin III, Christina Griffin, and Jeremy Griffin, all of Nevada, and one sister, Florine Davis, Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Dickenson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Ruth Doll

Ruth Emma Doll, 94, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, March 5, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, following an illness of several weeks. She was born August 17, 1907, in Macon County, MO, to William Washington Daugherty and Olive G. Elmore Daugherty. She married Ivan Doll on November 25, 1926, in La Plata, MO. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1978. Mrs. Doll was born and raised in Macon County, MO. She moved to Vernon County in 1942 and spent the remainder of her life here. She worked for several years as a psychiatric aide at Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Elizabeth Carey Chapter of NSDAR. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Sue Houdeshell and her husband Bob, Nevada, MO; one daughter-in-law, Pauline Doll, Ft. Scott, KS; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John Doll; four brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Revs. Scott Hall and Steve Barth officiating. Florence Dotson

Florence M. Dotson, 83, Nevada, MO passed away Saturday evening, May 4, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO following an illness of several weeks. She was born August 16, 1918 in London, England to the late James Edwards and Minnie Edwards. She was married May 11, 1946 in England to James Earl Dotson. He preceded her in death February 3, 1986. Mrs. Dotson was raised in England and came to Vernon County, MO after WW II and spent the remainder of her life here. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. She worked as a supervisor at Nevada State Hospital until her retirement in 1983. Survivors include one son, Earl Wayne Dotson, Cameron, MO, one daughter, Jackie Dotson, Harwood, MO, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Elizabeth Williamson and Ellen Knight, London England. She was preceded in death by two brothers Eddie and James Edwards. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held at a later time.

Helen Dougherty
Died On June 15, 2002
Helen Marie Dougherty, age 89, of Springfield and formerly of Vernon County, died Saturday morning, June 15, 2002, at the Springfield Rehab and Healthcare Center in Springfield, MO, following a lengthy illness. She was born on January 18, 1913, in Stotesbury, MO, to Bennett M. Nall and Jennie Laura Hicks Nall. In 1936 she was married to Jack Dougherty in Appleton City, MO, and he preceded her in death in 1989. Helen grew up in Stotesbury and graduated from the Stotesbury High School. Following her marriage, she moved to a farm near Walker, MO, where she and her husband lived for 53 years. Following her husband's death, she moved to Nevada where she lived for six years until moving to the Springfield area in 1995. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada. Survivors include two granddaughters, Lisa Minor, Greenwood, IN, and Jennifer Dougherty, Springfield, three great-grandchildren, Meghan, Audrey, and Kourtney Minor of Greenwood, IN, and one sister, Joanne Lahman, Oberlin, KS, and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Dougherty, Springfield, MO. In addition to her husband Jack, she was preceded in death by one son, Jack David Dougherty, three brothers, Max, Harlan, and Richard Nall, and two sisters, Rena Wagner and Mary Koons. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Ferry Funeal Home in Nevada with Scott Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Freda Douglass

Freda Douglass, 85, Joplin, MO formerly of Nevada, left the life she loved here with her loved ones to be with her creator Sunday evening, September 1, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO. She was born October 4, 1916 in Schell City, MO to Robert and Cora Costley. She was married to her first husband, Russell Blakely January 11, 1943 in San Antonio, TX. He preceded her in death in May of 1973. Later she married Harold M. Douglass September 12, 1987 in Nevada, MO. He preceded her in death in July of 1988. Before Freda took ill, she was very active in her church, the United Methodist Church in Nevada. Freda and her first husband, Russell Blakely, lived in Schell City, MO, where they owned and operated a dry goods and grocery store. In 1956, they moved to Rich Hill, MO, where they operated a grocery store and in 1969 they moved to Nevada, MO to operate a dry goods store. After living many years by herself, Freda married Harold M. Douglass and lived in Nevada. Survivors include by one son, Donald R. Douglass, Denver, CO; two daughters, Judy A. Douglass, Joplin, MO, Pegge Flowers, Dallas, TX; one granddaughter, Windi Flowers, Dallas, TX; her twin sister, Cleta Brown, Ft. Scott, KS; two nieces and 4 nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Russell Blakely and Harold M. Douglass; both parents, Robert and Cora Costley; one sister, Roberta Webb and two brothers, Darrell and William Buckley (Buck) Costley. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at the United Methodist Church, Nevada, MO with Reverend Scott Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City, MO. . Friends may call from now and until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Everett Duncan

Everett Andrew Duncan, 67, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, August 13, 2002, at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born August 8, 1935, in Wathena, KS, to Adalee F. Duncan and Melva Wilson Duncan. He married Joanne McNeece on November 30, 1988, in Bothel, WA, and she survives of the home. At the age of six, Mr. Duncan moved with his family to Washington State. He served in the U.S. Air Force 1956-1960 during the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts. He lived and worked in the Redmond, WA, area before coming to Nevada in the late 1970's. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to other employment, he worked at the Nevada State Hospital for a time as a Developmental Aide I. Survivors in addition to his wife, Joanne, include two daughters, April Jo Duncan, of the home, and Linda Sargeant, Boulder City, NV; one son, David A. Duncan, Orem, UT; four brothers; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and his parents. Visitation services will be held at 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. A private committal service will be held at a later date at Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of visitation at the funeral home.

Darrell Duncan

Darrell Dean Duncan, 69, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, May 28, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born June 3, 1932, in Nevada, MO, to Thelmo J. Duncan and Mary Margaret McPeter Duncan. Darrell attended school in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1949. He made his living as a bricklayer. Survivors include one son, Larry Duncan, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Connie Campbell, Kansas City, MO; one brother, Vernon Duncan, Sedalia, MO; three grandchildren, Travis Duncan, Nevada, MO, Gina Campbell, Kansas City, MO, and Santana Duncan, Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one infant son. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Moore Cemetery with John Nichols officiating. Mary "Merva" Eador

Mary M. 'Merva' Eador, 83, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday night, May 7, 2002, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born February 1, 1919, in Prestwick Ayre Scotland to Paul Griffith and Agnes Morton Griffith. She married Willis E. Eador on June 26, 1936, in El Dorado Springs, MO. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1994. Mrs. Eador was born in Scotland and came to the states at age two. She has spent virtually the rest of her life in Vernon County. She was a member of The Church of The Nazarene and was a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Robert and John Eador, both of Nevada, MO, Bill Eador, Compton Junction, MO; two daughters, Glenda McGarraugh, Milo, MO, and Sharon Sikes, Nevada, MO, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Bennie B. Griffith, Wenatchee, WA. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Carl Craig officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund or American Cancer Society-Vernon County Unit.

Patricia June Earp, 66, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Freeman West Health System, Joplin, MO. She was born June 16, 1936, in Nevada, MO, to William Gardner and Mildred Robinson Gardner. Patricia graduated from Nevada High School in 1954. She also attended Cottey College in Nevada. She worked as an underwriter in the insurance business. She moved back to Nevada and has lived here the past 10 years. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Kaveh, Victorville, CA, Julie Rodrigues, Long Beach, CA; two sons, David Earp, Pompano Beach, FL, and John Earp, Nevada, MO. Private committal services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.
