Imojean Lovene Hartzfeld, 75, Bronaugh, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2003, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a brief illness. She was born February 17, 1927, in Bronaugh, MO, to James Hartzfeld and Mayme Mallory Hartzfeld. Imojean grew up in Scott City, KS, and Bronaugh, MO, and attended schools there. After graduating from Bronaugh High School, she attended Pittsburg State College, Pittsburg, KS. She received her degree in teaching and taught school for over 30 years. She retired in 1976 and became an avid antique collector and enjoyed running her family farm at Bronaugh. Survivors include two sisters, Nell Conrad and Leona Bell, and one nephew, Frederick Dale Engler, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Ollie Roark and Wauneta Engler. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh, MO. Friends may call now and until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Rose Evelyn Hauser, 92, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1910, in Lebo, KS, to Isaac Graves and Idabell Smith Graves. She was married to Floyd A. Hauser on August 10, 1929, in Kansas City, MO, and he preceded her in death in July 1971. Mrs. Hauser was born and raised in Lebo, KS, and spent the majority of her life in Kansas City, KS. She came to Nevada in year 2000 and spent the rest of her life here. She attended Ash Street Baptist Church in Nevada. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, John Hauser, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Lois E. Trigg, Congress, AZ, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Floyd, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Debra Kay Burnett, two sisters, and four brothers. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2003, in Key West Cemetery, Lebo, KS, with Jerry Pyle officiating. Vivian Havens

Vivian Marie Havens, 86, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday night, April 12, 2002, at Moore-Few Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was born August 6, 1915, in Norton, KS, to Robert Lavern Bailey and Josephine Harper Bailey. She married Harry Otis Havens on December 20, 1932, in Norton, KS, and he preceded her in death on January 19, 2001. Mrs. Havens and her husband moved from Norton, KS, to Cedar County near Olympia in 1937. They came to Nevada in 1941 and have lived here ever since. Vivian worked at the Nevada Habilitation Center for a number of years, retiring in 1980 as an activity aide. She was a member of the Community Christian Church, a Charter Member of the Goodwill Social Club, BPW, Bridge Club, and also active in community service with the Red Cross. Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie Seitz, Nevada, MO, Sandra Thomas, Milo, MO, and Connie Malarkey, Knoxville, TN, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Lyle Bailey, Pueblo, CO; three sisters, Regis Cozad, Palm Coast, FL, Doris Foight, Wichita, KS, and Fern Cope, Superior, NE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2002, at the funeral home. Fern Headley

Fern M. Headley, 84, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, April 9, 2002, at Joe Clark Residential Care Home, Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born September 12, 1917, in Walker, MO, to Oral Daniel Short and Naomi Grace Branstetter Short. She married Guy Orley Headley on November 25, 1938, in Joplin, MO. He preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Headley was a graduate of El Dorado Springs High School in 1935 and of Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg, MO. She was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. She worked at Nevada State Hospital for many years until her retirement. Her memberships include past president of Nevada Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Quality Products Board of Directors, Nevada Regional Medical Center Foundation Board, Garden Club, and member of the BPW, Nevada. Survivors include three sons, Gary Headley and his wife, Vicky, Nevada, MO, Rick Headley and his wife, Sandy, Rich Hill, MO, and Michael Headley, Nevada, MO; four grandchildren, Sherry Hutson, Neosho, MO, Kristi Townsend, Clinton, MO, Adrian Headley, Joplin, MO, and Evan Headley, Nevada, MO, four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Dan Short, Nevada, MO. In addition to her husband Guy, she was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Caruthers. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with Rev. Brian Keith officiating. Thelma Louise Heitz
Died On August 11, 2002
Thelma Louise Heitz, age 74, the daughter of Archie Miller and Ruby Pearl (Shaw) Heitz, was born July 21, 1928 in Moundville, Missouri and passed from this life on Sunday August 11, 2002 at the Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, Missouri. Louise lived at home with her parents until their passing, then moved to the Moore-Few Care Center where she thrived. Just outside Louise's room were numerous humming bird and finch feeders that she watched daily. Once in a while a pesky blue jay would make his way to the feeders--he was always an aggravation to Louise. She was a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church who loved music and was always known to be very generous to everyone. Survivors include numerous aunts, uncles and cousins--and her extended family at Moore-Few Care Center where she kept busy daily as an "honorary staff member", always helping everyone. She was preceded in death by her father who passed away in 1965, her mother who passed away in 1990 and an older brother who passed away in infancy. Graveside services for Thelma Louise Heitz were held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Worsley Cemetery in Bronaugh, Missouri with Bro. Kenneth Shaw officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Connie Newton, Linda Hoskins, Vanessa Johnson and Carmen Pike. Services were under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Emmett Helm
Died On February 14, 2003
Emmett R. Helm, 83, Nevada, MO passed away Friday morning February 14, 2003 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee Mission, KS following a brief illness. He was born October 10, 1919 in Nevada, MO to Samuel Arthur Helm and Lula Mae Gowin Helm. He was married December 20, 1952 in Bentonville, AR to Katherine C. McNamara Helm. She preceded him in death September 28, 1989. Mr. Helm was raised in Vernon County and spent virtually his entire life here. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the European Theater of War. Following his discharge from the service he returned to Vernon County where he made his living as an over the road truck driver. He retired in 1992. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #5770, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2175, the American Legion Post #175, in Nevada, MO. He was an avid outdoorsman. Survivors include two sons, Emmett R. Helm Jr., Overland Park, KS, Dennis J. Sanders, Slater, MO; one daughter, Susan K. Webb, Nevada, MO; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Helm, Towanda, KS; three sisters, Betty Cox, Omaha, NE, Juanita Jama, Joplin, MO, Loretta Crews, Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse and one son David C. Sanders.. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nevada. Friends may call from now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. Family suggests memorials may be made either to the American Heart Association or the Missouri Conservation Department in care of the funeral home.

George "Neil" Henderson

George Neilson "Neil" Henderson, age 24, the son of George Edward Henderson and Janet Frances (Kimmell) Erambert was born April 9, 1978 in Nevada, Missouri and passed from this life on Thursday, August 8, 2002 at Cox North Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. As a child, Neil attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nevada before moving to Florida with his family. In the past several years Neil worked construction to support his family. He was well traveled in his young life living many places last settling in the Kansas City, Missouri area. On June 17, 1999, Neil was united in marriage to Ila Christean Dome and to their union two sons were born, George Neilson, II, and James Edward, the lights of Neil's life. Those who knew Neil knew that he had "the eyes of an angel"---that he had the "kindest and sweetest heart"---and would always go the extra mile to help anyone in need---"he never met a stranger." God knew the great angel that he was picking when he chose to call Neil to be with him. We know that he is now happy and at peace. Survivors include his wife, Ila, of the home in Kansas City, Missouri; two sons, George Neilson Henderson, II and James Edward Henderson both of the home, one daughter, Cheyenne Tillett also of the home; his father, George Edward Henderson of Humansville, Missouri; his mother Janet Frances Erambert of Cartersville, Georgia; "Brother George" of Kansas City, Missouri; four sisters Martha Ellen Erambert of Cartersville, Georgia; Sara Elaine Ellzey of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Adrian Roseanne Fielding and Dolores Fay Erambert both of Cartersville, Georgia; one brother, Gerald F. Vera Grace Henry,83, Nevada, MO passed away Friday morning, September 20, 2002 at Research Hospital, Kansas City, MO following a short illness. She was born July 21, 1919 in Cainsville, MO to the late Jay Guy McKean and Icy Grace Alexander McKean. She was married September 12, 1955 in Kansas City, MO to Charles M. Henry. He preceded her in death in August of 1989. Mrs. Henry was raised in Cainsville, MO. She lived in Kansas City, MO for a number of years before coming to Nevada in the 1970's, where she lived the remainder of her life. She had been manager of Campus Coroners Restaurant in Nevada and worked at various other restaurants in Nevada. She was an Avon representative for more than 20 years in Nevada until her retirement. Survivors include one daughter. Janice Long and her husband Philip, Raymore, MO; two grandchildren Christopher Long, Raymore, MO, Nichole Stephens, Denver, CO; one sister Gladys Baugher, Newport Richey, FL; three brothers, Jack McKean, Wycomico, VA, Dean McKean, Hamilton, MO, Robert McKean, the country of Mexico. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at Ferry Funeral home in Nevada with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Saturday and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Roberta Gail Hensley, 77, Nevada, MO passed away Friday morning, August 16, 2002 at Christian Health Care, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. She was born November 30, 1924 in Nevada, MO to the late Raymond B. Chandler and Mildred M. Kibler Chandler. She was married June 2, 1958 at the First Christian Church in Nevada, MO to Dale Ross Hensley. He preceded her in death September 16, 1976. Mrs. Hensley was raised in Nevada and spent much of her adult life in Minnesota where she worked many years for the Honeywell Corporation. She returned to Nevada in 1985 and spent the remainder of her life here. Survivors include one brother, Jack Chandler, Grandview, MO; three nieces, Jackie Wallen, Harrisonville, MO, Patricia Duggar, Kansas City, MO, Kathy Nichols, Grandview, MO. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday August 19, 2002 at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO with John Nichols officiating. Friends may call from now and until 1:45 p.m. Monday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.. Karen Herman

Karen A. Herman, 53, Nevada, MO, passed away suddenly Saturday, September 7, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. She was born March 8, 1949, in Wenatchee, WA, to Steve Kenneth Lancaster and Audrey Janet Swager Lancaster. She married Donald F. Herman on May 16, 1981, in Nevada, MO, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Herman was born and raised in Wenatchee, WA. She was a 1967 graduate of Eastmont High School in 1967. She came to Nevada in 1981 from Wenatchee. She was a homemaker, worked at Ramsey's Nevada Motel for 11 years, and has worked at Cottey College in Nevada for the past year and a half. Survivors in addition to her husband, Donald, include one daughter, Darcy Elizabeth Herman, of the home; parents, Steve and Audrey Lancaster, Wenatchee, WA; two brothers, Mike Lancaster, Monitor, WA, and Peter Lancaster, Seattle, WA; four sisters, Patricia Sorrintio, Holland, PA, Beverly Oldman, Snohomish, WA, Susan Miller, East Wenatchee, WA, and Jeanette Griggs, Orondo, WA; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Amy, on December 26, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Father Anthony Pileggi officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date for Karen in Wenatchee, WA. Thomas E. Hewitt Jr.

Thomas E. Hewitt Jr., the son of Thomas E. and Sandra Gurniak Hewitt Sr. was born July 18, 1971 in Syracuse, New York and died September 30, 2003 near La Center, Kentucky at the age of 32 years, 2 months and 12 days. Mr. Hewitt was employed as a truck driver. Survivors include one daughter, Ashley Nicole Hewitt of Nevada, Missouri, his father, Thomas E. Hewitt Sr. of New York, stepfather and stepmother, Gary and Penny Reichard of Metz, Missouri, four sisters, and one brother of New York, three stepsisters, a step grandmother, Grace D. Reichard of Metz, Missouri, and a step aunt, Tami Shores of Metz, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Hewitt. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday October 9, 2003 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with Father Eugene C. Carr as celebrant. Interment will be private. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas E. Hewitt Jr. Memorial Fund in care of Metz Bank, Nevada, MO.

Guila Hilton

Guila Bell Hilton, 87, Sargent, NE, formerly of Nevada passed away on April 7, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare, Sargent, NE, following a lengthy illness. She was born January 5, 1916, in Ogallala, NE, to Charles and Joanne Bailey Thornley. She married Lloyd Litell Hilton on May 6, 1947, in Kansas. He preceded her in death. Guila was a retired registered nurse, an active member of the United Methodist Church, the church circle, and the Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include two sons, Charles Ludlow and his wife, Kay, Augusta, GA, and James Hilton and his wife Terry, Reading, KS; two daughters, Lois Johnson and her husband, Lyn Johnson, Sargent, NE, and Mary Ann Walker, Perris, CA, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and one sister, Etna Stone, Nevada, MO. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sargent, NE, with Rev. Vonnie Phillips officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2003, at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, MO. Local arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Stanley Hinkle

Stanley Carl Hinkle, 42, Bronaugh, MO passed away Thursday morning, February 28, 2002 at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. He was born November 1, 1959 in Pittsburg, KS to Amos Hinkle and Mary Ann Earl Hinkle, Bronaugh, MO. He was married June 11, 1983 in Metz, MO to Kristi L. Luther Hinkle, who survives of the home. Stan graduated from Bronaugh High School. He was a member of Bronaugh Christian Church. He was a lifelong resident of the Bronaugh area. He worked with his father in the construction business and livestock farming. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He was a member of the Dry Wood Coon Hunters Association, MO-KAN Coon Hunters Association and the American Angus Association. Stan was a loving husband, father, son, brother and was friends to many. Along with his wife, Kristi, and his parents, Amos and Mary Ann, survivors include, two daughters, Whitney and Morgan Hinkle, of the home, mother and father-in-law, Junior and Linda Luther, Metz, MO, one brother, Kenny Hinkle, Nevada, MO, two sisters, Cindy Lathrop and husband J. D., Nevada, MO, Christie Baker and husband Terry, Mulberry, KS, one cousin Don Hinkle, Moundville, MO, numerous nieces and nephews, two brothers-in-law, Billy and Bobbie Luther and families. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002 at the First Baptist Church, Nevada, MO with reverend Curtis Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery, Barton County, MO. Charles Hogan

Charles Emmett Hogan, 61, Nevada, MO passed away Saturday morning, January 18, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born October 14, 1941 in Metz, MO to Emmett Monroe Hogan and Arvilla Louise Arrasmith Hogan. He was married June 8, 1963 in Nevada, MO to Lynda Julian Hogan who survives of the home. Mr. Hogan was raised in Vernon County and spent virtually his entire life here. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 till 1963. He was a member of the Nevada Pine Street Baptist Church. He made his living as owner/operator of Daylight Doughnuts in Nevada. He was an avid fisherman and artist. Along with his wife Lynda, survivors include one son, Jeff Hogan and daughter-in-law Tonya Hogan, Nevada, MO; four grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Kensi and Kaitlyn, all of Nevada, MO; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Emmett Hogan, Nevada, MO; one brother, Jerry Hogan, San Antonio, TX; three sisters, Joy Preston, Nevada, MO, Beverly Fox, Nevada, MO, Marilyn Moore, Springfield, MO; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call from know and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Family suggests memorials may be made to either the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund or the Children's Miracle Network, in care of the funeral home.

Died On July 13, 2002
Paul Leon Hogan, 60, Nevada, MO, passed away Saturday morning, July 13, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1942, in Ft. Scott, KS, to George S. Hogan and Pauline F. Lowry Hogan. He married Dorothy Rocco on November 26, 1960, in St. Louis, MO. Later he married Debra S. Lammers on December 17, 1988, in Vernon County, MO. Paul was raised on a farm near Richards, MO. He graduated from Richards High School in 1961. He was a member of Pentecostal Assembly. He spent most of his life in law enforcement. For 16 1\2 years he worked for the Nevada Police Department and for the Vernon County Sheriff's Department for a year before retiring due to health reasons in 1986. Survivors include one stepdaughter, Jennifer S. Rocco, Nevada, MO; three sisters, Ida Heathman, Nevada, MO, Elaine Harth, Richards, MO, Alice James, Ft. Scott, KS, many nieces and nephews; mother, Pauline Hogan, Ft. Scott, KS, and one step-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father and maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Shelby Brandt officiating. Interment will follow in White Cemetery near Richards, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Detail at the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
