Marjorie C. Turnbull, 73, Nevada, MO passed away Sunday morning, January 13, 2002 at Beverly Health Care, Nevada, MO following a brief illness. She was born June 15, 1928 in Hannibal, MO to the late Allyn Gardner Turnbull and Dilola 'Dot' Jones Turnbull. Marjorie was one of ten children. She had lived in Nevada for the last ten years, moving here from Butler, MO. Survivors include one brother, Bill Turnbull, Nevada, MO; three sisters, Betty Helms, LaVon Posey and Barbara Pettibon, all of Nevada, MO; 21 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2001, at St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City, MO. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Monday and until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Milster Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m.
Pansy C. "Pat" Veltri

Pansy C. "Pat" Veltri, 81, of Nevada, Missouri, died March 7, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare in Nevada, Missouri following a long illness. She was born August 30, 1920 in Moundville, Missouri to Edward D. and Dora Anna Whiteside Clark and was raised in the Moundville area. She married Cecil C. Leer in Nevada, Missouri in December 1939. She later moved to Spokane, Washington and married Anthony Veltri in October 1968 and he survives of the home. She has resided in Nevada for the past 18 years. Survivors also include one son, Cecil Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou Leer of Milo, Missouri and one daughter, Linda and her husband, Gary McCauley of Nevada, Missouri, three sisters, Ruby Base of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Helen Sexton of Pittsburg, Kansas and Margie Johnson of Fort Scott, Kansas, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Clark, Herschel Clark and one who died in infancy, five sisters, Vena Smith, Gayle Kost, Meryl King, Dana Winter and Wilma Woody. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday March 11, 2002 at Moore Cemetery in Nevada, Missouri with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Friends may call at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Nevada, Missouri, on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends Monday from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. when a procession will leave from Evergreen Memorial Chapel to the cemetery.
Norma Wallace

Norma J. Wallace, 70, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday evening, June 17, 2002, at Christian Health Care, Nevada. She was born September 29, 1931, in Nevada, MO, to Archie Floyd Beeson and Dollie Opal Lyon Beeson Curry. Norma grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. She was a homemaker most of her life although she did work for Key Industries for several years in the 1950's. She was a member of the Community Christian Church, Nevada and had taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church in the 1970's. Her greatest joy in life came from her children and grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Larry Gene Wallace, Merriam, KS; two daughters, Jacqueline Deann Allen and her husband, Dennis, Moundville, MO; Sherri Josiette Spillman and her husband Greg, Lone Jack, MO; four grandchildren, Randall Lee Spillman, Blue Springs, MO, Marcus Lane Spillman, and Rebecca Dawn Spillman, both of Lone Jack, MO, and Brenna Leann Allen, Moundville, MO, and one sister, Carol Sue Hamilton, Warsaw, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jackie Dean Wallace, and two sisters, Ruby and Sissy. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002, at the Community Christian Church, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment

Hudson "Jack" Wardin

Hudson Wilhite 'Jack' Wardin, 76, Walker, MO, passed away Monday, May 19, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following an illness of several weeks. He was born October 28, 1926, in Nevada, MO, to Herbert Wardin and Maude Wilhite Wardin. He married Neva Watson on October 23, 1948, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. Jack was born and raised in Vernon County and graduated from Sheldon High School. He was a member of the Christian Church. He worked for many years as a city patrolman and also as a Developmental Aide at Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1987. Survivors in addition to his wife, Neva, include two sons, Bill Wardin, of the home, and Steve Wardin, El Dorado Springs, MO; two daughters, Donna Spencer and Peggy Swafford, both of Nevada; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Clayton Wardin; two grandchildren, Tammy Spencer and Jonnie Selby, and one great-granddaughter, Amie Madison Spencer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Alan Black and Tim Brewer officiating. Interment

Robert Welch

Robert Charles Welch, 75, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, January 22, 2002, at his home in Nevada following a sudden illness. He was born December 4, 1926, in Horton, MO, to Charles Welch and Edith Reed Welch. He married Fern Hickam on November 11, 1978, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Welch was born and raised in Northern Vernon County. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was in the armed forces for 12 years. He made his living in heavy construction working for many years in Belleville, IL. He returned to Vernon County in 1978 and spent the remainder of his life here. He operated the Wagon Wheel Liquor Store for 10 years and worked in maintenance for Nevada Mental Health. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors in addition to his wife Fern, include two daughters, Toni Markham and her husband, Dennis, Carl Junction, MO, and Terri Morris and her husband, Jerry, Nevada, MO; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two uncles, Ralph Reed, Metz, MO, and Cecil Reed, Rich Hill, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Hettie Ellen Wells, 96, Nevada, MO passed away Thursday evening, November 7, 2002, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. She was born February 2, 1906 in Humansville, MO to the late John William Robinson and Lorraine Caldona Bell Robinson. She was married to Lee Roy Wells in Fort Scott Kansas who preceded her in death October 24, 1954. Mrs.Wells lived all her married life in Vernon County, MO. She and her husband operated a grocery store for many years west of Bellamy an than moved to a farm near Bellamy. In 1954 she moved to Sheldon, MO and in the 1960's came to Nevada and lived the remainder of her life here. She was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. Survivors include one son, Jadie Wells, Afton, MO; one daughter, Lois Estes, Boise, ID; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and spouse, one son, Merl Wells and one daughter, Ruby Wells, six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO. Friends may call at Milster Funeral Home in Nevada after 9:00 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2002. Lester Werner

Lester J. Werner, 80, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday, December 31, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born December 27, 1921, in Pipestone, MN, to William E. Werner and Louise A. Houselog Werner. He married Elizabeth Theresa Scotting Werner on May 14, 1947, in Pipestone, MN, and she survives of the home. Mr. Werner served in the Army Air Force from 1942-1945 in Europe during WW II. He then farmed in Pipestone, MN, for 10 years. In 1958, he went to work for John Deere Manufacturing in Dubuque, IA, where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He and his wife traveled for 12 years before settling in Nevada in 1995. Survivors in addition to his wife, Elizabeth, include two daughters, Gayle Coulthard and her husband, Harland, Cuba City, WI, and Theresa Irene Coulthard and her husband, Dennis, Overland Park, KS; five sons, Leslie Werner and his wife, Judy, Verona, WI, Frank Werner and his wife, Lynn, Medford, WI, Scott Werner and his wife, Diane, Cuba City, WI, Douglas Werner and his wife, Sharee, San Diego, CA, Gary Werner and his wife, Melissa, Santa Clarita, CA; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Werner and his wife, Lucille, Sioux Falls, SD, and Robert Werner and his wife, LaDonna, Clarkfield, MN; one sister, Audrey Ann Werner, Canby, MN, three aunts, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Pearl, an infant brother, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Sarah White, the daughter of Michael L. and Ruth A.M. Davison White was born December 27, 1999 in Nevada, Missouri and died October 19, 2002 at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City at the age of 2 years, 9 months and 22 days. Survivors include her parents, Pastor Michael and Mrs. Ruth White of Nevada, Missouri, two brothers, Isaac and Johnmark, of the home, paternal grandparents, Floyd and Mae White of Elkland, Missouri, maternal grandparents, Lewis and Ethel Davison of Streator, Illinois, Pat Elvin of Elgin, Illinois, aunts and uncles, Carla and Jay Kuhns, Allen and Pearl White, Chery and Herb Conway, Rick and Susan Davison, Ken and Suad Davison, Tim and Olivia Davison and numerous cousins, great uncles and great aunts. She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Dawn. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday October 23, 2002 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Swiney officiating. Marjorie Whitmire

Marjorie Whitmire, the daughter of Charles A. and Pansy E. Patton Stites was born July 22, 1918 in Centralia, Missouri and died September 3, 2002 at the Barone Alzheimer Care Center at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 11 days. She was united in marriage to Walter "Whit" Whitmire in 1940 in Iowa and he preceded her in death October 19, 1983. Mrs. Whitmire had been a lifetime resident of Centralia until moving to Sheldon in 1998. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Centralia. She and her husband were very involved in fox hunting and raised fox hounds for many years. Survivors include three sisters, Wilma Hultin of Sarasota, Florida, Jackie Hardy of Sheldon, Missouri, Phyllis Stites of Parkville, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by two sisters, Neysa Jayne Baldridge and Catherine Harrison. Memorial services will be at Fenton Funeral Chapel in Centralia, Missouri on Sunday September 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dick Phlan officiating. The family will receive friends at Fenton Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Local arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel. John Dale Willers

John Dale Willers, 72, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday afternoon, February 18, 2002, at his home in Alamo, TX. He was born March 17, 1929, in Bronaugh, MO, to John Henry Willers and Eva Alberta Banks Willers. He married Burnita Joyce Disney on November 26, 1956, and she preceded him in death on June 24, 2001. Mr. Willers was born and raised in this area and spent virtually his entire life here. He graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1946. He served in the National Guard for 15 years. He was a member of the Community Christian Church, Nevada. He made his living as a truck driver. Survivors include one son, John Steven Willers, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Penne D. Moore and her husband Dustin, Milo, MO; one stepdaughter, Irvilene Gardner and her husband Mark, Leawood, KS; five grandchildren, Shauna, Tiffany, and Samantha Willers, and Samuel J. and Emily A. Moore; three stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Katie, and Laurie Gardner. In addition to his wife Joyce, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Irving James Pettit. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2002, at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Wilma Williams

Wilma Mae Williams, 63, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday morning, June 23, 2002, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born December 12, 1938, in Moundville, MO, to Adam James Jones and Hazel West Jones. She was married to Archie M. Williams on April 22, 1957, in Eureka Springs, AR. He preceded her in death in 1979. Wilma was born in Moundville and grew up in Nevada. She lived nearly all of her life in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. She worked for several years at Nevada City Hospital as a nurses' aide. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was very active in the church and also taught Sunday school for many years. She spent her life caring for her family. Survivors include two daughters, Pam Baldwin and her husband Jack, and Shelia Praiswater and her husband Rick, all of Nevada, MO; one son, Rick Williams, Nevada; two stepchildren, Carolyn Aver and Michael Williams, both of Marshall, MO; three grandchildren, Joey Mahana and Tiffany Stroer, both of Nevada, and Tabitha Baldwin, Walker, MO; one great-granddaughter, Kiersten Diamond, Walker, MO; three sisters, Wanda Foote and Pauletta Lechman, both of Nevada, and Martha Keithly, Huffman, TX; one very special friend, Leonard Cowlisha, Ft. Scott, KS; two brothers, Roy Jones, Nevada, MO, and Jerry Jones, Parsons, KS, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Lucy Elizabeth Williams, 83, Nevada, MO, formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 2, 2002, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. She was born June 19, 1918 in Fort Scott, KS to the late Roscoe A. Gentle and Millie M. Still Gentle. She was married November 10, 1939 in Liberty, MO to Ray L. Williams. He preceded her in death February 9, 1980. Mrs. Williams attended school in Fort Scott, KS and lived most of her life in Fort Scott. She was a member of the Brethren Church, Fort Scott, KS. She and her husband moved to Nevada in 1978 coming from Kansas City, MO. She worked eight years in the Credit Department for Duff and Repp Furniture stores. Her last employment was for Webb Belting and Supply Co., Kansas City, MO. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Olive Chapter #13, Fort Scott, KS. She was a Mother of Rainbow for girls in 1957. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Postel, Gulf Breeze, FL; one son, Garen R. Williams and his wife, Janice, Nevada, MO; three grandchildren, Kris Stelzig, Norfolk, VA, Ross Postel, Euless, TX, Corey Williams, Knoxville, TN; one great-grandchild, Kira Cole. Along with her spouse and parents, two brothers, Spencer Gentle, May 26, 1990, and Charles Gentle, September 1937, preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at Milster Funeral Home with John Nichols officiating. Concluding the service will be ceremonies provided by the Order of Eastern Star.
