Died On May 9, 2003
Jan Evelyn Williams, 61, Milo, MO passed away Friday, May 9, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born February 15, 1942 in Joplin, MO to Emerald B. Woods and Peggy Sturgis Woods. She was married March 13, 1985 in Claremore, OK to Danny Williams. He survives of the home. Mrs. Williams was born and raised in Southwest Missouri. She came to Vernon County in 1965 and lived the remainder of her life here. She had worked for nine years at Heartland Hospital in Nevada. She also worked for a period of time at O'Sullivan Industry, Lamar, MO. Most recently she had worked with the family business. Survivors, along with her husband Danny, include two sons, Richard Chevalier, Joplin, MO, George Erwin, Carthage, MO; four daughters, Kadeana Manes, Milo, MO, Eugenia Morgan, Nevada, MO, Christina Williams, Nevada, MO, Betty Malcom; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Lester Carpenter, the state of TX, Kent Woods, Nashville, TN; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Monday, May 12, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow at Milo, Cemetery, Milo, MO. Friends may call from now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6:00 and 7:00 P.M. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.

Georgia Shrewsbury Willsey
Died On August 31, 2002
Georgia Shrewsbury Willsey, 75, Ft. Worth, TX area, formerly of Nevada, died Saturday, August 31, 2002, at her daughter's home in Weatherford, TX, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born January 19, 1927, in Nevada, MO, to William Franklin and Irene Sarah Stark Fry. Georgia moved to the Ft. Worth area in 1962. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker, devoted to family, friends and those who knew her. She enjoyed painting and loved to dance, cook and entertain. She mentored Weatherford I.S.D. elementary students and participated in Senior Center activities. She was active in the Discovery Class at Western Hills Baptist Church where she was a member. Survivors include one son, Paul Willsey and his wife, Barb, St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Sandy Whitehurst and her husband, Rick, Benbrook, TX, and Patti Woods and her husband, Ron, Weatherford, TX; five grandchildren, Brian and Brad Willsey, Shane and Stacy Whitehurst, and Garett Woods; three great-grandchildren, Alek and Samantha Willsey, and Austin Whitehurst, and one cousin, Don Stark, Nevada, MO. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at Western Hills Baptist Church, Ft. Worth, TX. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2002, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. Friends may call now and until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Memorials may be given to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 2501 Parkview Drive, Suite 600, Ft. Worth, TX 76102.

R. L. Willson
Died On March 15, 2002
R. L. Willson, age 93 of Rt. 1, Horton, MO passed away at his home on Friday March 15, 2002 following a lengthy illness. He was born on October 22, 1908 in Vernon County to John Gilbert Willson and Ada Mae Langford Willson. On February 1, 1933 he was married to Anna Mae Kessler in Walker, MO and she survives of the home. Mr. Willson was a lifelong resident of Vernon County where farmed all his life. He attended the Metz Methodist Church. In addition to his wife Anna Mae, he is survived by one son Gilbert Willson, Nevada, six daughters, Dee Jacks, Horton, Ruby Forkner, Richards, Freda Raabe, Horton, Peggy Hunt, Nevada, Mary Comstock, Bronaugh, Janet Nichols, Rich Hill, twenty one grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, two sisters, Thelma Boyd and Gladys Johnson, both of Nevada, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Emory, one brother Roy Willson, and a grandson, Ronnie Jacks. Funeral Sevices will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002 at Ferry Funeral Home with Pastor Genevieve Guinn officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call from now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Those who wish may contribute to Nevada Hospice c/o of Nevada Regional Medical Center Foundation or the Metz Methodist Church c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Loren Wilson
Died On July 15, 2002
Loren Wayne Wilson, 72, Sheldon, MO, passed away Monday night, July 15, 2002, at Mercy Hospital, Ft. Scott, KS, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 23, 1930, in Metz, MO, to Louis McClellan Wilson and Donna Mae Johnson Wilson. He married Charlene Shields on October 7, 1950, in Appleton City, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Wilson was born and raised in the Metz area and spent virtually his entire life in Vernon County. He worked a number of years in heavy construction helping to build 71 Highway as well as the Stockton Dam. He also farmed for many years. His later working years were spent at 3-M in Nevada, where he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Horton Methodist Church and Drywood Coon Hunting Association. He was also an avid country musician. Survivors in addition to his wife Charlene, include five daughters, Kathy Lee Rayburn, Bronaugh, MO, Cynthia Lynn Bean, Jerome, ID, Deanna Sue Rainey, Teresa Jo Bear, and Janyce Kae Hinkle, all of Nevada, MO; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Melba Barnes, Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Chanci Jo Cain. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Don Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Mary Wing
Died On April 15, 2002
Mary Helen Wing, 88, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2002, at St. John's Hospital, Joplin, MO. She was born June 11, 1913, in Kansas City, MO, to Delbert Wasmer and Mary Ellen Gibbons Wasmer. She married Ernest Wing on January 10, 1936, in Kansas City, MO and he preceded her in death in 1984. Mary and her husband owned and managed Wings Bridgeview Resort at Sunrise Beach, MO, for 30 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, MO. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Turner and her husband David, Nevada, MO; three grandchildren, Vickie Hollamon, Independence, MO, Mark Turner, Kansas City, MO, and Matt Turner and his wife Diane, Kansas City, MO, ten great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, four nephews, three nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie Wing, her parents, five brothers, and two nephews. Mrs. Wing was cremated. Committal services will follow at St Patrick's Cemetery, Laurie, MO, at a later date. Arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Clyde Wishon
Died On May 8, 2002
Clyde Wishon, 70, Bronaugh, MO, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, MO, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 31, 1931, in Rogers, AR, to Alfred Wishon and Rachel Jane Easley Wishon. He married Norma M. Crabtree on February 7, 1964, in Moorefield, WV, and she survives of the home. Mr. Wishon grew up in Rogers, AR. He served in the Air Force from 1951-1960. He served in Korea and worked out of the Pentagon during the Korean Conflict. He and his wife came to Vernon County in 1975. He owned and operated Wishon's Auto Repair for a number of years in Nevada. He was Pastor for the Fairview Community Church for 27 years. Survivors in addition to his wife Norma, include two sons, James Hartman, Springfield, MO, and Michael Wishon, Nevada, MO; two daughters, Leona Scott, Springfield, MO, and Katy Peterson, Gerrardstown, WV; eight grandchildren, and one brother, J.W. Wishon, Little Rock, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; two sons, Clyde M. Wishon, Jr., and Shane Hartman, and one daughter, Janie Wishon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Cremation will follow. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Fairview Community Church or the American Heart Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Donna Wood
Died On January 11, 2002
Donna JoAnn Wood, 45, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday morning, January 11, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born January 1, 1957, in Yakima, WA. She married David Wood on August 10, 1974, in Nevada and he survives of the home. Donna was born in Yakima, WA, but spent virtually her entire lifetime in this area. She graduated from Jayhawk-Linn High School in Mound City, KS. She has resided in Nevada since 1975. She worked for many years at the Thompson Floral Company as well as Charter Cable in Nevada. In addition to her husband David, she is survived by one son, Bryan Wood, Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Lisa Wood, Kansas City, MO; one sister, Sharon Riggs, Nevada, MO, and mother and stepfather, Doris and Dean Rager, Nevada, MO. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmie Neely. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada, MO. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends Monday 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Jimmie Woodling
Died On May 12, 2002
Jimmie R. Woodling, 72, Milo, MO, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2002, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, following a short illness. He was born November 27, 1929, in Jerico Springs, MO, to James W. Woodling and Lula Beydler Woodling. He married Joanne Henning on October 23, 1973, in Nevada, and she survives of the home. Mr. Woodling was born and raised in the Jerico Springs area. He graduated from Stockton High School. He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Korea and Alaska during that time. He was employed by Nevada State Hospital for 19 years until his retirment in 1973. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors in addition to his wife Joanne, include three sons, Russell Woodling, International Falls, MN, James Woodling, Emporia, KS, and Roy Woodling, Cameron, MO; two daughters, Leanna Kirby, Emporia, KS, and Sheryl Rhodes, Pensacola, FL; three stepsons, John Bozworth, Nevada, MO, Randy Murphy, Milo, MO, and Larry Murphy, Kansas City, MO, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one brother, LeRoy Woodling, Hold Summit, MO. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Wolf. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday evening. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Norma Woods
Died On November 25, 2002
Norma Ruth Woods, 64, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday morning November 25, 2002, at Moore-Few Care Center following an illness of four months. She was born May 17, 1938, in Nevada, MO, to Ralph Everett Woods and Lily Bell Flemming Woods. Norma was born and raised in Nevada and spent virtually her entire lifetime here. She graduated from Nevada High School. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Nevada. Norma worked for 36 years for the State of Missouri Division of Family Services, retiring in 1993. Survivors include two brothers, Ralph Woods, Blue Springs, MO, and Dale Woods, Independence, MO; two sisters, Carol Barker, Lee's Summit, MO, and June Woods, Nevada, MO, two nieces, three nephews, one great-niece, and four great-nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Friends may call now and until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Linda Woods
Died On March 7, 2002
Linda Christine Woods, 48, Sheldon, MO, passed away suddenly Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO. She was born January 9, 1954, in Emmett, Idaho, to Amos Woods and Ruth Strong Woods. Linda lived in Sheldon the past six years coming from Idaho in 1996. She was an avid trail rider. She was loved by her family and friends. Survivors include her father, Amos Woods, Emmett, ID; three daughters, Lona Harmon and Candi Harmon, both of Mitchellville, IA, and Brandy McLerran, Colfax, IA; five grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and her companion, Dean Stark, Sheldon, MO. Linda's family will receive friends at her home at Rt. 2, Sheldon, on Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2002, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Donald Wright
Died On May 21, 2003
Donald H. Wright, 51, Sheldon, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born January 25, 1952, in Kansas City, KS, to Lewis Glen Wright and Phyllis Marie Clark Wright. Donald came to Vernon County at age 10 and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1970. He was a member of the National Musicians Union for many years. He played the piano and had a jazz band in New Orleans for many years. He was also a Chef in various restaurants in Kansas City and New Orleans. He had been back in Sheldon for the past eight years. Survivors include his mother, Phyllis M. Bryan, Basehor, KS; three brothers, Jeff Wright, Laurel, MD, Rodney Wright, Rockaway Beach, MO, and Chris Wright, Nevada, MO; three sisters, Debbie Gleissner, Olathe, KS, Diana Bryan-Smith, Basehor, KS, and Glenna Wright, Nevada, MO; friend, Michael O'Bannon, Sheldon, MO, one niece, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association in care of Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon, MO.

John Yoos

John Ovid Yoos, 66, Bronaugh, MO, passed away Monday night, April 8, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, MO, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 17, 1935, in Arcadia, KS, to Donald Elbert Yoos and Mabel Lydia Snow Yoos. He married Karen Hasstedt on June 27, 1987, in Pittsburg, KS, and she survives of the home. Mr. Yoos was born, raised, and spent his entire lifetime in the Bronaugh area. He graduated from Arcadia High School. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 in Italy. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Nevada, MO. He made his living as a sandblaster. Survivors in addition to his wife Karen, include one daughter, Diane Lynn Hickcock, Iowa state; two stepsons, six stepdaughters, 25 grandchildren; one sister, Dora Shook, McPherson, KS, and his father, Elbert Yoos, McPherson, KS. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Nevada, with Pastor Kimberlee Lekas officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. Friends may call now and until 8:30 a.m. Friday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.
