Adeline Edith (Barta) Kovarik
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 23, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with burial in the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Rev. John Hemann will celebrate the Mass of Resurrection. The family will place the pall, the songs that will be sung are: "Be Not Afraid", "Let There Be Peace" and "On Eagles' Wings. "Casket bearers will be Don Bartels, Edward Ondrashek, Joe Lawrence, Joe Neubauer, Tony Neubauer and Leland Truka.
We celebrate the life of “Adela” Adeline Edith (Barta) Kovarik. Adeline’s love of life was expressed through her cooking and baking. She would never let anyone leave the house without having something to eat.
Adeline, 79, was living in her own home with daughter, Diane and was taken to Gundersen Lutheran—LaCrosse, WI after suffering a massive brain stem infarct (stroke) on October 13, 2004 and died Wednesday, October 20, at 3:45 P.M.
Adela “Adeline” Edith (Bart) Kowari was born August 2, 1925, in Winneshiek County, near Spillville, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Kabela) Barta. She attended parochial schools until the seventh grade. After her schooling, she returned home with her parents to help with the daily farm life and care for her polio stricken brother, Edward.
Leaving her birthplace in 1947, the family moved to town. The farm was purchased by Edward and Anna Ondrashek and currently, Dave and Sue Ondrashek reside there.
Adeline’s father, Frank died June 28, 1952. Prior to her marriage, she was employed at various restaurants in Cresco as a cook, including Cresco Café owned by Ray Jaeger; Black and White Café owned and operated by Arnold and Ada Baker and South Side Café owned by Schoeberl’s For a short time, Adeline worked at a restaurant in Lake Mills, Iowa. The Lake Mills Café was owned and operated by Clarence and Margaret Hruska.
Leonard Kovarik and Adeline Barta were married on June 14, 1955, at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco by Rev. Vernon Peters. They farmed in the Lourdes area, living on the farm where Leonard was born and raised. They moved to Cresco on March 31, 1978 and their farm sale was on April l, 1978. The acreage was purchased by Kevin and Janice Hassman and the bare land sold to Zeimetz. While living on the farm near Lourdes, Adeline continued to assist in the care of Edward, during the summer months and Adeline’s brother and sister provided care for Edward during the winter months until his death on March 9, 1972.
Adeline was best known for her kolaches, although they never received first place at County Fairs — they were “prize winning” for all who had the pleasure of eating them. A meticulous housekeeper, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and hosting people in her home where she always had more than plenty to eat. Adeline enjoyed the company of her Pomeranians, Brandi and Truffles.
She was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Rosary Society and a member of the Notre Dame Altar and Rosary Society and briefly belonged to The Catholic Workman Organization.
Survivors include their only child, Diane Kovarik of Cresco and her very special friend, Nick Zeien and special grand-god-children: Nate Zeien of Ridgeway and Myranda Jo Bartels of Elma, her brother: Leonard P. Barta of Cresco and her sister: Margaret Hruska of Apache Junction, AZ, a niece Hannorah Emerson of Colorado, step niece, Sharon Stussy of Lansing, IA, nephews Clete Hruska of Apache Junction, AZ, Tom and Tim Barta of Denton, TX, and Danny Pat Barta of Tallahassee, FL; and a sister-in-law Jeanne Barta of Denton, TX.
Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Barta on June 28, 1952, Barbara Barta on May 13, 1964, six brothers: Julius in 1940, Edward on March 9, 1972, Frank on August 1, 1981, Emil on May 3, 1982, August on July 9, 1993, and Daniel on August 1, 2001. And one sister Otilia “Tillie” Barta on January 8, 2001.

Adeline M. Zbornik
Adeline M. Zbornik died March 22, 2003 at Heritage Gardens Health Care Center in Loma Linda, CA, of natural causes. She was 84 years of age.
Ada was born January 17, 1919 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Cresco, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph F. and Antoinette (Koliha) - Schneider - Zbornik. She attended school in Cresco, first at St. Joseph Elementary School, then Assumption High School from which she graduated in 1936. After high school she worked in Cresco for the first years. One place she worked was for her father at Zbornik Brothers’ Store. In 1946 she went to Bloomington, Illinois, to live and worked as a bookkeeper at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership. In 1957 she moved to Los Angeles where she worked before moving to neighboringOrange County a year later. She was a bookkeeper whit Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, Ca, until she retired in 1986. In 1987 she moved to a retirement community in the city of Highland, CA, adjacent to San Bernardino.
She enjoyed her retirement doing various activities. She stayed fit biking, walking and flower gardening. Ada was accomplished in art and handy craft projects of which sewing, ceramics, drawing, calligraphy and making greeting cards were a few.
In January of 2003 Ada moved to an assisted living facility. Unfortunately she broke her hip after a short time there. She was under madical care from that time.
Ada’s closest relatives are a sister-in-law: Ann Zbornik of Vetnor City, NJ; two nieces and 3 nephews: Joyce Warren of Vetnor City, NJ, Jane Blazek of Seoul, Korea; William Blazek of Richland, IA, Robert Blazek of Lawler, IA, and Richard Blazek of Iowa City, IA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two half brothers: Bernard Schneider, Joseph V. Zbornik; a half sister: Eleonora Blazek; and two brothers: Raphael and Arnold Zbornik.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Notre Dame Parish - Assumption Worship Center, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco. Friends may call at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. onFriday. And at the church an hour prior to services on Saturday. There will be a scripture service at 6:30 P.M. Friday.

Alton R. Rue 1918-2002
Ridgeway: Alton R. Rue, age 84, of Ridgeway, IA, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco of complications of Alzheimers Disease.
He was born on May 22, 1918 in Ridgeway, Iowa, the son of Lou and Inga (Hovden) Rue. He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1934, and on January 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Audrey Kelley. Alton farmed all his life, even after retiring in 1987.
He is survived by his wife: Audrey, one daughter: Linda Murphy of Waterloo, IA, two sons: Harold (Heide) Rue and Kelvin (Donna) Rue all of Ridgeway, IA; five grandchildren: Jason Murphy, Travis, Kelly, Tyler and Riley Rue; two great grandchildren: Rhein and Rhett Murphy; one brother: Irvin Rue of Ridgeway, IA and one sister: Pearl Hoagland of Waterloo, IA
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Garvin Rue and Harold Rue, and one sister, Arlene Beaumont.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December, 20, 2002 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, IA, with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery south of Ridgeway. Friends may call at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. on Thursday. There will be a Prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday.

Alvin Joseph Weber
Alvin J. Weber, age 82, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at his home in Cresco, IA after a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, IA. Friends may call from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA on Thursday, and from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the church in Gilbertville on Friday
Alvin Joseph Weber was born on October 24, 1923 at Gilbertville, Iowa, the son of Joseph G and Gertude (Schares) Weber. On November 29, 1944, he was united in marriage to Nettie Viola Perry at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, IA.
Alvin and Viola farmed most of their lives in Gilbertville, Jesup, Raymond, Chester and Cresco. He then drove the Northeast Iowa Community Action van around Cresco for 20 years. Alvin was a member of Notre Dame Parish and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He liked playing cards, gardening, his rabbits, and collecting John Deere toys and lawn tractors.
He is survived by his four sons: Larry (Deb) Weber of LaPorte City, IA, Jerry Weber and Allan Weber both of Cresco, IA, and Randy (Barbara) Weber of LeRoy, MN; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters: Leona Weber of Jesup, IA and Ida Delgardelle of Waterloo, IA; two brothers: Irvin (Rita) Weber and Anthony (LaDean) Weber all of Gilbertville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and two brothers: Gene and Cletus Weber.

Anna Marie Lindell
Anna Lindell, age 17, of Cresco, Iowa died October 3, 2004 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Winneshiek County, Iowa.
Anna Marie Lindell was born on June 6, 1987 at Ashland, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clinton and Mary (Chapman) Lindell. She lived in Mauston, WI and as a young girl, she moved to Cresco with her mother. She attended Cresco Elementary and Crestwood High School through her sophomore year and elected to be home schooled this past year.
Anna enjoyed reading, writing poems, hanging out with her friends and listening to all types of music, which was a big part of her life. She loved kids and elderly people and was more willing to help them than doing things for herself.
She is survived by her mother, Mary of Cresco, her father, Clinton Lindell of Hayward, WI, one brother, Clinton J. Lindell and his wife, Laura Lindell of Lime Springs, IA and a special friend Tony Thompson. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Lillie Chapman of Ridgeway, IA, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Anna was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James Chapman, an uncle Robert Horner, an aunt, Arlene Prether, and her paternal grandparents, Carol and Erma Lindell.
Funeral services are held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Firs Congregational Church in Cresco with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Pastor Tim Sir presiding with Joe Sir and Barb Larsen providing the music. Nicole Block and Laura Lindell singing a duet. Casket bearers are Larry Frank, Tom Williams, Bill Wentworth, Clint J. Lindell, Stephen Johnson and Joe Sir.

Lola Arleane Kenyon
Arleane “Auntie” Kenyon, 91, of New Hampton, died Saturday, March 10, 2001 at the New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 13 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton with Reverend David Bergstrom and Reverend Kevin Frey officiating. Edith Kolthoff will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing “Amazing Grace. ”“In The Hour Of Trial” & “He Touched Me” will be organ solos.
Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with Chad, Tom, Dennis, & Jon Sweitzer and Tony & Archie Trower serving as casket bearers.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 pm Monday at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and an hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Lola Arleane Kenyon was born June 30, 1909 in New Hampton, the daughter of Herman & Clara (Yearling) Vick. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a 1927 graduate of New Hampton High School. While she was in high school she participated in basketball, school plays and was a cheerleader for 3 years. She was united in marriage to Veryle Kenyon on June 28, 1928. The couple resided in Waterloo for 3 years. She also resided in Idaho for one and a half years while her husband was stationed there in the Navy before he was assigned to a minesweeper in the Pacific. The couple returned to New Hampton where they lived and celebrated their 52 years of marriage before the death of her husband in 1980. Arleane worked at the Chickasaw County Courthouse for many years. She was a 4-H leader in 1939 until she resigned to become County Chairman in 1946. She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Then American Legion Auxiliary where she held offices in the unit and also in the county. Arleane was a member of the Come and Go Bridge Club. She enjoyed making crafts and playing cards.
She is survived by a niece and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Veryle, a nephew Lee Sweitzer and his daughter Christine, and nephews Dick & Veryle Sweitzer.

Arnold James Meier
Arnold Meier of rural Elma, died suddenly Saturday, January 22, 2005 at his home. He was 86 years of age.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. The family will place the pall, Stan Milewsky will be lector and the family will carry the gifts. Casket bearers will be Joe, Chris, Tom and Stephen Schmitt, Phil McCarville and Jack Whitinger.
Arnold James Meier was born on February 2, 1918 in Howard County, Iowa, the son of Frank J. and Veronica E (Kanies) Meier. He attended school in Alta Vista, living at his grandmother’s home, through the seventh grade and finished his education at a rural school near his parents’ home. Following his formal schooling, he worked as a farmer and carpenter for many farmers in the area. Eventually, he purchased his present farm and started farming on his own.
On June 18, 1940, Arnold was united in marriage to Clementine Maravetz in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. After their marriage, the were members of the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma eventually transferring their membership to the Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville, where they have been members for over 35 years.
In earlier years, Arnold liked to hunt and fish. In later years, after Arnold and Clementine quit dairy cows, they like to travel. Originally they drove their car, but started going on bus trips and traveled through most of the United States and Canada.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Clementine, of 64 years; three children: Eugene of Decorah, IA, Dorothy and husband Lawrence Schmitt of Riceville, and Allan and wife Ellen of Mason City, Iowa; four grandsons: Joe, Chris, Tom and Stephen Schmitt; three brothers: Walter (Mildred) of Riceville, Harold (Rosalie) of Elma, Francis (Lois) of Elma; two sisters: Angeline (John) Helmerick of Colorado and Agnes Hidding of Elma, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerome as a child, and one sister, Rosalia Ptacek.

Arthur C. Pecinovsky( 1929 – 2002 )
Protivin: Art C. Pecinovsky, age 73, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospital in Cresco, Iowa of natural causes.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A. M on Monday, July 29, 2002, at the Holy Trinity Church with burial in the church Cemetery, both in Protivin, IA. Friends may call from 4 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Conway Funeral Home on Sunday, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. There will be a 5:00 P. M. Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 7:00 P.M. Scripture Service on Sunday.
He was born June 21, 1929 in Cresco, Howard County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Clara (Martinek) Pecinovsky.
He was married to Glenda M. Hugeback on August 24, 1968 at Sacred Heart Parish in Manly, Iowa. He was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife: Glenda of Protivin, IA, a daughter:Eva Pecinovsky of Protivin, two sisters:Abbie (Andy) Novak of Protivin, IA. and Pauline (Edward) Hubka of Waucoma, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald F. Pecinovsky.

Arthur “Huck” Eugene Ackley
Arthur “Huck” Eugene Ackley, 80, of New Hampton, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 17 at First Baptist Church in New Hampton with Reverend Jeff Scherer officiating. Charlotte Markle will be the organist and will accompany Michael Ackley singing “Amazing Grace,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Just As I Am. ”
Burial with military honors will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with grandsons Jeff & William Pratt, Mike & Mark Ackley, Jim, Bob, Tim, and Terry Rethamel serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters Jennifer Tiddens, Susie Reynolds, Barb Weeks, Lynnette Rauch. The New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts will provide military honors.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 pm Friday at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and an hour prior to services at the church.
Arthur Eugene Ackley was born September 19, 1920 in Marble Rock, the son of Harrison & Gertrude (Castle) Ackley. He graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1936. He was united in marriage to Mona Mae (Evans) on March 4, 1940. The couple first lived in the Rockford/Marble Rock area until they moved 3 miles east of New Hampton in 1951. In 1957 they moved to their present home in New Hampton. Arthur served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He then worked for Paul Hassman farming, Vern’s DX Station and S&S Firestone until his retirement in 1986. He is a member of the First Baptist Church. Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, embroidering, and collecting antique dishes.
He is survived by his wife Mona of New Hampton, one son Harold Lee (Pat) of Fredericksburg; two daughters Karen (Wm. Jordan) Pratt of Soddy Daisy TN and Pennie (Eldon) Rethamel of Fredericksburg; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger of Chillicothe, IL and Charlie of Dubuque; two sisters, Beverly Woods of Portland, OR and Margaret Hurd of Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, Mitchell Joseph Rethamel in 1992, four sisters, Erma Snavely, Thelma Hayungs, Wilma Marion, and Henrietta Meek.

Bernard James Roman
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Notre Dame Parish-Assumption Worship Center, burial with military rites in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Henry Charipar presiding. Family will place the pall on the casket, lector will be Patrick McGuire, gifts will be carried by the grandchildren, Honorary Pall bearers will be Lawrence Peters, Richard Zak, Dave Corcoran, John Wacha, Jr. , Arnold Schmauss, Ray Valvoda and Ray Bieri; Casket bearers will be Jerry Haskovec, Melvin Haskovec, Larry Nolan, Gary Nolan, Jim Hedeen, Alvin Voyna and Scott Voyna. Organist will Polly Jones and Joe Wacha will be cantor singing, "Be Not Afraid" "On Eagles' Wings", "Precious Lord" and "How Great Thou Art".
Bernard James Roman was born on March 7, 1921, in Howard Township, Howard County, Iowa, the son of Anton Jr. and Elizabeth Rose (Knippling) Roman. As a youth, he attended country school and enjoyed trapping, fishing and working for several neighbors.
Bernard entered the U. S. Army Air Forces at Camp Dodge Iowa, on October 21, 1942 and was discharged as a S/Sgt. on November 24, 1945, at Sioux City, Iowa. He served in the 2043rd and 2103rd Corp of Engineers Fire Fighting Group attached to the 8th Air Force in Great Britain, serving 18 months in England until May of 1945. Upon his discharge from the service, he worked in his father’s blacksmith shop in Maple Leaf, IA, served as township assessor of Howard Twp, and was appointed as the first Howard County Weed Commissioner in May of 1947.
On November 5, 1947, Bernard was appointed as the first Howard County Assessor, to be effective on January 1, 1948, being the youngest county assessor in the state of Iowa at that time. He served 38 years as Howard County Assessor, when he retired on December 31, 1985, he was Dean of the Iowa Assessors and the only “original appointee” under what is now called the “Assessors Law. ”
Bernard married Viola Mary Peters on Monday, June 16, 1947, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in rural Elma, Iowa. They became the parents of two children, Robert Bernard and Carol Ann (Mrs. Michael McGuire). They have enjoyed 57 years of marriage and three grandchildren:Michael (Mac) Roman McGuire (13), Kevin Bernard McGuire (8), and Alison Marie McGuire (5).
Bernard was a charter member of Cresco VFW Post #4561, a member of Cresco American Legion Post #135, receiving a Certificate for Continuous Membership for 50-years, on March 15, 2004, Knights of Columbus Council #1571,Notre Dame Parish – Assumption Worship Center, and the Cresco Wildlife Club. His outdoor hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, camping, traveling, and working with his Brittany Spaniels. His indoor hobbies included playing cards, making soup, reading, and solving crossword puzzles.
Bernard passed away at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, after suffering a severe stroke.
He is survived by his wife, Viola, his son, Robert of Anamosa, IA, his daughter, Carol, and her husband Mike McGuire of Cresco, IA, three grandchildren: Michael, Kevin and Alison McGuire; and a sister: Merle (George Vernon) Hedeen of St Peter, MN.
His parents, one granddaughter, Meagan Anne McGuire, and two sisters: Alice (Mrs. William) Haskovec and Velma (Mrs. Harry “Bud”) Nolan preceded him in death.

Beatrice Worple McGovern
Beatrice Worple McGovern died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Denver Sunset Home where she has made her home since June 26, 2002. She was 90 years of age.
Funeral Services held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2004, at the Conway Funeral Home with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Riceville. Rev. Ray Atwood officiating. Casket bearers are: Brian Knapp, Zachary Bell, Jon McGovern, Jake Roney, Jason McGovern, and Nicholas McGovern. Visitation held from 11:30 A.M. Monday until time of services.
Beatrice R. McGovern was born on February 8, 1914 in Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of F. Leo and Mable (Phippon) Murphy. She received her education in the rural school. On December 12, 1931, Bea was united in marriage to Daniel Worple in Riceville. Following their marriage they farmed in the Riceville-Elma area. They owned and operated the Riceville Dry Cleaners from 1962 until 1969. Dan died on November 23, 1969 and Bea started cooking at Pettit’s Café until she retired in 1973 and she became a full time homemaker. On February 3, 1973, Beatrice was united in marriage to Joseph McGovern in Riceville. He died on July 29, 1995.
Beatrice is survived by two children: Delmer Worple of Washburn, IA and Donna Mae (Lester) Torsrud of Evansdale, IA. She is also survived by six step sons: Michael (Betty) McGovern of Bentonville, AR, Arthur (Barbara) McGovern of Waterloo, IA, Jon McGovern of Evansville, IA, Terry (Janet) McGovern of Riceville, IA, Father Mark McGovern of Dyersville, IA, and James (Kathleen) McGovern of St. Paul, MN; six step daughters: Ruth McHyster of Boulder, CO, Merry (Dick) Whittaker of New German, MN, Joan (Dick) Britton of Portland, OR, Kathleen (Dick) Luchwitz of Redington, FL, Jane McGovern of Minneapolis, MN, and Colleen (Frank Forney) McGovern of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 42 step grandchildren, 44 step great grandchildren, one great great grandson and several step great great grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Goodbrand of Riceville, IA, a sister-in-law, Louise Murphy of Riceville, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a sister, Vivian Purtell, and two brothers, Lawrence and Joseph Murphy.

Benjamin “Benny” L. Houdek( 1921 – 2002 )
Cresco: Benjamin L. Houdek, age 81, died Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa of natural causes.
He was born March 17, 1921 in the Spillville area of Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Louis C. and Anna (Novak) Houdek.
He is survived by his brother:Les Houdek of Prairie Lake, MN and his sister:Mayme Wendl of Nashua, IA; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers:Joseph V. and Louis E. Houdek and two sisters: Gusta Klimesh and Emma Kratz.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A. M on Thursday, August 8, 2002, at the Holy Trinity Church with burial in the church Cemetery, both in Protivin, IA. Friends may call from 5 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Conway Funeral Home on Wednesday, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. There will be a 5:00 P. M. Scripture Service on Wednesday.

Bernadette Peal "Bernie" Fogarty
Bernadette Peal "Bernie" Fogarty age 85, of Okeechobee, Florida, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at her residence. She was born January 8, 1921, in Cresco, Iowa and was a resident of Okeechobee for the past five years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Fogarty.
She is survived by her son Ed (Norma) Fogarty of Okeechobee, Florida: her granddaughter Linda Ann Fogarty of Brandon, Florida; grandson Brian (Sarah) Fogarty of Atlanta, Ga; and great-grandson Colin Fogarty, also of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by her sister, Coletta Wilson sister-in-law Kathyrn O'Brien both of Cresco, Iowa and brother-in-law Robert Moser of Lime Springs, Iowa, and, numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Lourdes, Iowa at 10:30 A.M. with burial at the Lourdes cemetery immediately after the services. Friends may call at the church an hour prior to services on Friday. Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Okeechobee,P. O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Florida 34973.

Mary Bernadine ( Owens ) O’Donnell
Bernadine O’Donnell, age 97, died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco where she has lived since 1995.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Notre Dame Parish – Assumption Worship Center, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both at Cresco, IA. Rev. Henry Charipar will officiate, the family will place the pall, and the casket bearers will be: Paul Kolbet, Larry Buckman, Randy Owens, Tim Owens, Henry Elwood, and John O’Byrne.
Mary Bernadine Owens was born on May 24, 1907 at Bradford, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Ella (Mowbray) Owens. She worked many years as a Department Head for the Department of the Army, Engineer Procurement Office, Corps of Engineers in Chicago, Illinois.
On October 24, 1959 she was united in marriage to Joseph Edwin O’Donnell and lived in Cresco, Iowa for the remainder of her life. She was a member of the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco, Iowa, the Altar and Rosary Society, and Federated Women’s Club.
She is survived by two brothers, Thomas Owens of Escondido, CA and Richard Owens of Orange, CA, three nieces: Jill White of Palm Springs, CA, Jane Ownes of North Miami Beach, Fl and Cindy Owens of New York City, NY. Also two nephews: Tim Owens of Anaheim, CA and Randy Owens of Orange, CA.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph on June 21, 1975, two brothers, Adrian and John Owens, and one sister, Ann Thompson.

Beula Garnet Eickhoff
Beula Eickhoff, 78, of Bassett, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001 at her home in Bassett of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 29 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton with Reverend David Bergstrom officiating. Edith Kolthoff will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing “Precious Memories,” “Sweet By and by,” & “Old Rugged Cross. ”
Inurnment will be at a later date. Honorary casket bearers will be Jacob Price, Caleb Bates, Zachary Hill, Alexander Mack, Taylor Martins, Chase Martins, and Adam Eickhoff.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Friday at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and also an hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday.
Beula Garnet Eickhoff was born July 30, 1923, at Plainfield, IA the daughter of Carl Otto & Eva Clarissa (Jordan) Ziehe. She graduated from Plainfield High School and went on to the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her teaching degree. After her schooling she taught in one-room schoolhouses for 9 years in the Nashua area. On December 31, 1947 she was united in marriage to William H. Eickhoff Jr. at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Plainfield for 11 years, and then on an acreage 3 miles east and 3 miles south for another 11 years. The couple then moved to New Hampton where they resided for 3 years before moving to a farm in Bassett in 1966, where they were currently residing. Beula spent a lot of her time working on the farm and milking. She worked with special needs children through Foster Grandparents out of Charles City for 10 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and fishing.
She is survived by her husband William H. of Bassett; 7 daughters Monica Bates of Decorah, IA, Judith Jordan of Plainview, MN, Linda (Jim) Price of Helena, MT, Wynette (Jim) Hill of Shell Rock, IA, Kathy (Jerry) Groshens of Plymouth, IA, Pam (Olu) Martins of Scottsdale, AZ, and Hope Eickhoff of Bassett; a son Tom Eickhoff of Bassett; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother Wayne Ziehe of Renton, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Coy; and a sister Doris.

Charles William Jones “Bill”
Bill Jones died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa. He was 79 years of age.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the Notre Dame Parish-St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco, with burial in St. Bridget’s Cemetery at Bluffton. Rev. Henry W. Charipar presiding.
Charles William Jones “Bill” was born on November 27, 1924 in Cemeron, MO, the son of Paul and Loretta (Tierney) Jones. He attended Rudolphinum School and went on to graduate from Loras College. Following his education he entered the United States Navy and served from March of 194l3 until Feb. of 1946. He attained the rank of Pharmacist Mate 2c.
Bill worked at various jobs in Chicago, Cedar Rapids, Marion and Cresco. He came home to live with his mother when she became ill. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus.
Bill is survived by one brother, James of Lake Carroll, IL and one sister, Pauline Murray of Minneapolis, MN.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents, two brothers: Thomas and John and two sisters: Doris Feeney and Janet Gouchee.

Robert Louis Byrnes
Bob Byrnes died Sunday, June 8, 2003 at the Regional Health Services Hospital in Cresco, Iowa. He was 80 years of age.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the Assumption Worship Center – Notre Dame Parish, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco, IA. Rev. Henry W. Charipar will preside, Deb Moellers will be organist with Joe Wacha leading the congregation in song. Lector will be Jerome Nibaur , gifts will be carried by Bruce, Kim, Andy, Austin and Ashton McConnell. Honorary Bearers will be Craig Morrison, Donald (Bud) Kach, Harold Crowe, Gene Lewis, Walter Hove, John Wilson and Delbert Mandelko. Casket bearers will be John, Jim and Jeff Moen, Mike Byrnes, Jason and Casey Hovey.
Robert Louis Byrnes was born on October 3, 1922 in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Louis B and Thresia (Broskey) Byrnes. He attended the rural schools and returned home to help with the farming. Bob’s dairy and farming career expanded over 60 years, which included building one of the highest producing dairy herds in Iowa. The operation started in 1921 by Bob’s Dad and Grandfather and when Bob was young and in 4-H and showing cattle at the fair with which he won many awards. In addition to his farming operation, Bob was involved with selling and installing equipment for Madison Silos and Clay Equipment. Bob and his wife Lucille sold and delivered registered Holstein bulls all over the country.
Bob was an active farmer who received the Master Farmers Award, the Distinguished Dairyman Award, the Iowa State Dairy Award, and many other awards. He had been on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Cooperative Creamery, the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Dairies and was a delegate to Washington, D. C. , and he was on the Board of Directors of Land O’Lakes.
Bob loved to dance and his greatest hobby was farming. Another great past time was driving the combine. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and he always loved a good joke.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, to whom he was married on January 2, 1946 in Tacoma, WA, his children: Jeanne, Richard and Wanda, Julie, Tim and Theresa Chipra, Pat and Pam all of Cresco, IA; five grandchildren: Kimberly McConnell, Jared, Justin, Joshua and Nikky Byrnes; four step grandchildren: Jami Weems, Kari Miller, Carmen and Brittany Chipra; four great grandchildren: Andrew, Austin and Ashton McConnell and Jordan Weems; one sister: Betty Moen of Cresco, IA and one brother John “Jack” (Darlene) Byrnes of Cresco.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Baby Byrnes and James Allen, both in infancy; and one grandson: Kris Kaderabek.

Bridget Catherine Loes
Bridget Loes, 20, of Alta Vista, died Thursday, February 8, 2001 as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Colwell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista with Reverend Roger R. Rethamel officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Shawn Ostlund, Mitch Ostlund, Nathan Loes, Aaron Loes, Ryan Loes, Eric Loes, and Brian Zweibohmer serving as casket bearers.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 pm Monday at Conway Funeral Home in Elma where there will be a 4 pm Rosary and 7 pm scripture service. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services at the church.
Bridget Catherine Loes was born December 6, 1980, at New Hampton, the daughter of Brian & Marjorie (Tolliver) Loes. She was baptized and confirmed at St Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista. She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1999 and went on to attend Aviation school in Arlington Texas. Following her schooling she moved to Wisconsin and worked for a short time before moving back to Alta Vista, where she was currently residing. She was employed as a manager at Pizza Hut in Charles City and also as a waitress for the Last Call in Alta Vista. She always enjoyed helping people and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, collecting Mickey Mouse items, Beanie Babies, and Black Lab items. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista and the Youth Choir there.

Harry Joseph Nolan
Harry “Bud” Nolan, age 84, of Preston, MN, formerly of Granger, MN. died Friday, December 2, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center in Preston, where he has lived since November of 2000.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Notre Dame Parish-Assumption Worship Center, with inurnment at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco. Rev. Richard J. Ament officiating, with the family placing the pall, lector will be Carol McGuire, gifts will be carried by Andrea and Will Nolan and Noah and Zachary Petermeier. Casket bearers will be: Robert Roman, James Hedeen, Melvin and Gerald Haskovec, Jeffrey Clark and Michael Petermeier.
Harry Joseph Nolan was born in Albion Township, Howard County, Iowa, on October 13, 1921, the sonof William Joseph and Irene Catherine (Murphy) Nolan. He graduated from Assumption High School in Cresco, IA. He served his country during WW II. Following his return from the service, he was united in marriage to Velma Roman on November 16, 1950 at the Assumption Church by the Rev. T. J. Carpender.
Following their marriage, they made their home in Granger, MN, where Budand his father operated the Bud and Bill’s D-X station. Later, he was appointed as Postmaster at Granger, and he held this position for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Assumption Church, Retired Postal Employees and in his spare time, he enjoyed antiquing and flea markets.
He is survived by his children: Patricia Nolan of San Diego, CA, Joanne (Michael Petermeier of Woodbury, MN, Gary (Deanna) Nolan and Larry (Mary) Nolan, all of Harmony, MN; seven grandchildren: Noah and Zachary Petermeier, Andrea and William Nolan, and Trent, Kyle and Katie Tolleffson; and one brother-in-law, Patrick Burns.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Velma in 2001, three sisters: Elizabeth Trembley, Audrey Gould and Avis Burns, and three infant brothers: Keith, John and Robert.

Byron Joseph Knox
Byron J. Knox died Monday, February 6, 2006 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, IA. He was 84 years of age.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Notre Dame Parish-Assumption Worship Center in Cresco, with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery at Plymouth Rock. Rev. Richard Ament will officiate, Thomas Skoda will be server, readers will be: Tracy Wilson, Dar Skoda, Marcia Stevens, and Jerry Skoda. The family will place the pall and process into church to the song "Here I Am, Lord". Offertory song will be: "Be Not Afraid" and "Amazing Grace" will be sung at communion. The recessional will be "How Great Thou Art". Organist will be Suzanne Ollendick and will accompany the song leader, Jerry Casterton. The gifts will be carried by Mike and Janice Ries and the Eucharist Minister will be Linda Skoda. Honorary bearers will be: Maurice and Janice Knox, Chuck and Tillie DeWalle, Rob and Jacque Hahn and Mike and Janice Ries. Casket Bearers will be: Jim, John, Joe, and Janice Skoda and Gene and Jerry Casterton. Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Friday at the Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Byron Joseph Knox was born on February 13, 1923 in Burr Oak Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Gertrude (Mullaney) Knox. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Agnes Catholic Church at Plymouth Rock. He attended the rural school near his home through the eighth grade. Even though Byron never went to high school, he was a very successful farmer. He farmed until he was 60 years of age, and after selling the farm, he moved to Cresco where he became an outstanding insurance agent.
Byron was a member of the Notre Dame Parish and the Cresco Council of the Knights of Columbus.
Byron enjoyed extensive travels around the world, from China to Russia, from Europe to Mexico. He especially had many fond memories traveling with tour guides, Father Donald Hawes and his brother Msgr. Cletus Hawes to Ireland. Byron took pleasure in the many hunting and fishing trips in /Canada and around the country, with friends and relatives. He also puttered around with golf at the Cresco Country Club. He also spent many hours in growing and pruning his plants around his house.
Byron is survived by his sister: Alice Casterton of Cresco, his nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
His father, Joseph; his mother, Gertrude, and a sister, Eloise Skoda preceded him in death.
Byron will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Carol Jean Ward
Carol Ward, age 76, died Tuesday, September 06, 2005 at St. Marks Nursing Home in Austin, MN from complications of cancer.
Funeral Services are being held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, September 9, 2005 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Pastor Todd Yeaton of the First Baptist Church in Cresco will officiate. Suzanne Ollendick will accompany Marcia Murray who will sing, "Rock of Ages" and "Because He Lives". Casket Bearers will be Dean and Jason Miller, Dave Hruska and Jon Hayek.
Carol Jean Ward was born on February 16, 1929 at Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd, Sr. and Myrtle (Warren) Solomon. Her family moved to Howard County in 1930. Carol attended school in Cresco and graduated from the Cresco High School in 1946, and then entered Nurses training in Kirksville, Missouri.
On March 2, 1954, Carol was united in marriage to James Ward in Kirksville, MO. They made their home in Kirksville for a period of time. Carol and Jim were later divorced and Carol moved back to Cresco to make her home.
Carol was the Health Program Coordinator for Howard County for Northeast Iowa Community Action. She was in charge of the local programs of Family Planning and W. I. C. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Sunday School Teacher and served on various boards.
She is survived by two daughters: Deborah Lamoreaux of LaCrosse, WI, and Bobbi Potter (James “Tolly” Tollefson) of Austin, MN; seven grandchildren: Jamie (Cari) Hoppe, and Jason Hoppe (Alicia Aller), Elizabeth and Kimberly Lamoreaux, Chris, Chuck and Carl Ward; five great grandchildren: Ethan and Alexis Hoppe, Harley Hoppe, Clayton and Alexis Ward; two special friends: Taylor and Katelyn Tollefson; one brother: Wayne Solomon and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Solomon.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: James Howard Ward in infancy and David Carl Ward in 1993, one brother, Lloyd Solomon.
