Robert C. "Bob" Miller
Robert C. "Bob" Miller, 64, of 2705 Kennedy Avenue, Cedar Falls, died Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
Bob was born December 30, 1938 in Boone, Iowa the son of Vernon Charles and Vera (White) Miller. He married Patricia Hagaman December 9, 1960 in Boone. Bob was a mechanic for Friedley Lincoln-Mercury for 24 years then for Coonradt Ford in Waverly before retiring in 2000.
Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He liked to gamble and bet on the dogs. He was known for his stories and had an excellent sense of humor. Bob was a very intelligent man with a well rounded knowledge base. He enjoyed watching sports especially the Denver Broncos, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife Patricia; 2 sons: Shane of Cedar Falls and Rick and his wife Jodie of Waterloo; a daughter Roxanne Dow and her husband Chris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and 4 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Vicki L. Miller
Vicki L. Miller, 50, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Monday, June 07, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo from complications of a long illness. She was born July 06, 1953 in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Lucian and Marjorie (Stanhope) Wersinger.
Vicki attended Hawkeye Community College and worked at the Kwik Star in Jesup. She enjoyed playing on the computer, chasing kids in her wheelchair, crafts, and crocheting.
She is survived by her son, Jason and his wife, Melanie of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Katie Trueg and her husband Jason of Jesup, Iowa; Mariah Olson and her friend Gary of Waterloo, Iowa. Five grandchildren, Ayron, Taron, Christian, Jaylynn and Damon. Two brothers, Lucian Wersinger and his wife, Karen of Kansas City, Missouri and Rickie Wersinger and his wife, Mary of Waterloo, Iowa. One sister, Martha Stitchman of Salem Arkansas.
Vicki is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Ryan Trueg.

Ruth E. Mindham
Ruth E. Mindham, 84, of Waterloo died Friday, December 26, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center. Ruth was a resident of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
Ruth was born July 29, 1919 in Macon Georgia the daughter of Oscar Dykes Lee and Estelle Moore Lee. She married martin Frederick Mindham September 2, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. He died February 20, 1988.
Ruth worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing Company for 19 years before retiring in 1969.
Ruth is survived by two nieces: Virginia Snow and Debra Knight; a niece by marriage: Sharon Mindham; four nephews: Martin lee, Arlon Lee, Durwood Lee, and Lamar Lee. She is also survived by close friends Cara and Bob Melton of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Cindy Klein of Waterloo. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers: Douglas Lee and Oscar Lee, Jr.
Myron E. (Dinty) Moore
Myron E. “Dinty” Moore, 71, of 4175 North Avenue, died on Monday, January 3, 2005 at his home of cancer. He was born on September 15, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Seth E. and Florence (Trebil) Moore. He graduated from West High School in 1951.
Dinty married Marian Ileene Howard on June 27, 1959 in Davenport, Iowa. She died November 20, 1987. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Following his time in the Army he worked for A&L Bakery; then for Western Electric, which became AT&T, for 30 years until his retirement in 1986. Dinty was a member of the telephone Pioneers of America, Izaak Walton League, Falling Rock Walleye Club, and Gilbertville American Legion Post #714.
Dinty’s greatest passion was his grandkids. He devoted a lot of his time to the Izaak Watlon League, and was active as a Hunter’s Safety Instructor. In 1988 he received the Governor’s Award for his service to the State of Iowa. Dinty was also a people person, and was very handy. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it including at his Trailer at Falling Rock.
Dinty is survived by his mother, Florence of Waterloo; 3 sons: Richard Moore of Waterloo, Ronald(Rebecca) Moore of Waterloo, and Timothy (Kimberly) Moore of Gilbertville; 3 daughters, Laurie Moore of Waterloo, Susan (Kent)Schwebach of Waterloo and Kathy (Kenton) Lindsey of Goddard, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Ariel, Austin, Matthew, Jordan, Brock, Drew, K.C., Jamie, Kristy, Jillian and Holly; and 2 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Ethan.
He is preceded in death by his father; and uncles Beryl “Buck” Trebil and Charles “Chuck” McGrane.
Hertha A. Morf
Hertha A. Morf, 104, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born December 28, 1900 in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Nieman) Niewoehner. Hertha married Bert F. Morf on April 21, 1920. He died in 1967.
Hertha and Bert owned and operated hardware stores, first in Waverly, then Riceville, and finally Tripoli Hardware in Tripoli. They sold the store in the mid 1940’s and moved to California where they lived until the early 1950’s. They then moved back to Cedar Falls and became members of Nazareth Lutheran Church. As a young person, Hertha enjoyed playing tennis, hiking, and bicycling. Later, she enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, reading and bridge. Hertha’s faith and family were important to her. She will be remembered for her love of nature, grace, kindness and integrity.
Hertha is survived by her 2 daughters, Lee Platt and her husband Dean of Waterloo and Jeanette Baran and her husband John of Palos Verdes Estates, California. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Richard Platt and his wife Marsha, Ann Fergemann and her husband Gary, Lynn Leary and her husband Ted and John Baran and his wife Laurie; also 10 great-grandchildren.
Hertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert; and 9 brothers and sisters.

Robert Mueller
Robert Mueller, 80, passed away Sunday Oct. 5, 2003 in Waterloo.
Robert was born Sept. 28, 1923 to Otto and Beryl (Lacey) Mueller in Waterloo.
He married Dorothy Neuman April 8, 1949 in Dubuque.
He drove a truck for several local companies prior to going to work as a crane operator for John Deere. He retired in 1986. He was a UAW Trustee as an employee assistant.
He and Dorothy were members of Central Christian Church and he was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous.
He served in the Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his wife; his son Robert W. Mueller and wife, Jan, of Mulino, OR; his son Richard A. Mueller and his wife, Sara McMillan, of Urbandale, IA; a daughter, Mary E. Buhlman and her husband Jim, of Cedar Falls. There are seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He has a brother Charles Mueller and wife Dorothy, of Waterloo; sister Elizabeth"Betty" Johnson and husband Eldon, of Lacey, WA.
His parents and a brother, Otto Mueller, preceded him in death.
J. Dale Murphy
J. Dale Murphy, age 90,of Erie, Pennsylvania formerly of Waterloo, Iowa. died at Independence Court of Erie, Erie Pennsylvania on Tuesday,May 20, 2003. He was born February 14, 1913 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Fred and Abigail Averill Murphy. He married Marie Kuriger July 2, 1932, at the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo. She died July 22, 1993. Later Dale married Elizabeth Henninger December 2, 1995 at Bethel Baptist Church, Erie, PA. He owned and operated Cedar Side Dairy in Waterloo and then owned two restaurants, one of which was"The Chuckwagon" and the other "Hub". Later he worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and was a real estate broker, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Waterloo and attended Bethel Baptist Church, Erie, PA He was one of the founders of Cedarville Unversity, Cedarville, Ohio and served as chairman on the board of trustees at Cedarville University for over 50 years (Cedarville, Ohio). Also, he was on the Board for Iowa Regular Baptist Camp
He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth Murphy, of Erie, PA. Son, James D. And wife Phyllis Murphy of Naples, FL. A daughter, Marilyn M. and husband Wesley Bentrude of Salt Lake City, UT. A step daughter, Kay and her husband Thomas Simon of Pittsburgh, PA. A step son, Robert and wife Elizabeth Henninger of Erie, PA. Three grandchildren, six step grandchildren , six great grandchildren , two step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife-Marie, two brothers: Forrest Murphy and Parker Murphy. One sister: Rita Scroggy.
Lucille Nash
Lucille Nash, 93, of the Friendship Village Health Center died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at the center of natural causes. Lucille was born April 1, 1910 in Mahaska County, Iowa the daughter of Jay Pearl and Gretta Whitehill Nash.
Lucille graduated from Lacey High School. She began her college education at William Penn College and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 1931. She received her Master of Arts from Drake University. Lucille completed some graduate work at Gregg College in Chicago, the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, and the University of Hawaii at Honolulu.
Lucille taught at Lacey High School, Rose Hill High School, Keosauqua High School, the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Eldon High School, and Newton High School. She taught for the Waterloo Community Schools from 1947 to 1975 retiring as the head of the Business Education Department at West High School.
Lucille is Past-President of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waterloo, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution, Waterloo Women's Club, National Education Association, and the Cedar Valley Historical Society.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents and 2 bothers: Clarence and Howard Nash.
Dorothy M. Muzzey
Dorothy M. Muzzey, 99, of Waterloo, IA went home with the Lord Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, of natural causes. She was born on February 01, 1905 in Waterloo, the daughter of Shirley M. and Lillie (Thomas) Muzzey.
Dorothy attended the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. She worked at the Scripture Press in Chicago, and then later returned to Waterloo to do secretCourier work in the area and volunteered at Family Altar Broadcast. She was a long time member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.
Dorothy is survived by her two nieces, Marguerite Muzzey of Chicago, IL, and Shirley Thompson of Ames, IA. She is also survived by her two special friends, Gloria and James Goering of Waterloo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

John J. Nisius
John J. Nisius, 77, of Weslaco, TX; formerly of Hudson, IA, died Thursday, October 28, 2004 at the Valley Grande Nursing Home in Weslaco, TX from complications of a stroke. He was born on May 24, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mabel (Smith) Nisius.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
John married Marjorie (Marge) Wilson on June 29, 1947 in Kansas City, KS. He worked at Rath Packing Company for 34 1/2 years, retiring in 1982.
John was a very creative person. He loved doing wood work and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He later learned how to crochet. John and his wife, Marge lived in Hudson for 26 1/2 years, before moving to Weslaco, TX in 1982. He never met a stranger because he made friends so easily. John was helpful to everyone. He coached little league and taught his scouts and neighbors how to water ski. He was also a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scout Troop in Hudson. John was a member of the Methodist Church in Waterloo, Hudson, and in Mercedes, TX.
John is survived by his wife, Marge; a daughter, Linda Jackson and her husband Richard, of Bedford, TX; and two brothers, Frankie Nisius and his wife Marge of Stout, and Robert Nisius of Waterloo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Harry T. O'Day
Harry T. O'Day, 85, of Mallard Point, Cedar Falls. Formerly of 820 Bayard St., Waterloo, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Allen Hospital. He was born June 9, 1917, in rural Fredericksburg, son of William and Josephine (Casewell) O'Day.
He married Cleo F. Jensen on November 25, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. She died April 21, 2002. Harry worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing as a mechanic, retiring in 1982.
Harry and a friend were the first young men in Waverly to sign up for the service during WWII. He served in the Army in the 3485 Ordnance MAM Co. during WWII. He was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
He is survived by his primary care giver: Jenny Wahl of Waterloo. A stepson: Mike Jensen of Des Moines. A step-daughter: Jannan and husband Dale Diamond of Springfield, IL. Four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.
Gerald L. Olson
Gerald “Jerry” L. Olson, 81, of Waterloo, died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was born on April 21, 1923 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of George W. and Fern (Herrick) Olson.
Jerry married Phyllis Lown on July 11, 1942, in Lancaster, MO. She died in March of 1968. He later married Lois Jean Perry on June 18, 1983, in Waterloo, IA. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II.
Jerry worked for the Waterloo Fire Department for forty years, retiring as Chief of the department in 1986. He was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Waterloo, a lifetime member of International Association of Fire Chiefs, a member of Iowa Retired Fire Chiefs Association, Iowa Fireman’s Association, and Elks Lodge.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lois; four daughters, Linda Pilipchuk and her husband Richard, of Waterloo: Loretta Krueger and her husband James, of Brownville, NY: Jane Fredberg and her husband David, of Rogers, MN: and Kathy Slaikeu and her husband David, of Waterloo; two sons, Larry Olson and his wife Lori, of Springfield, MO: and James Olson and Jackie Derrick, of Dike, IA; two step-daughters, Sheryl Weaver and her husband David, of Gig Harbor, WA., and Penny Winkelman and her husband Mike, of New Hartford, IA; step-son, Mark Perry and his wife Lori, of Dysart, IA; twenty-three grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, George W. Olson Jr., of Beloit, WI., and Ronald Olson, of Waterloo; and sister, Arlene Petersen, of Waterloo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; and granddaughter, Jennifer Olson.
Charles J. (Charlie) Owens
Charles J. “Charlie” Owens, 81, of 4041 Crossway Drive, died on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home from cancer. He was born on June 5, 1923, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Elmer M. and Gladys Esther (Krause) Owens. He married Lois Marian Moser on May 29, 1947 at the Burton Avenue Baptist Church. She died November 9, 2003.
Charlie graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1942, and graduated from the Baptist Bible Institute in Cleveland, Ohio, where he studied pastoral ministries. He served in the United States Army during WWII, and worked in Heating and Ventilation at John Deere from April 1964, until June 1985. Charlie loved spending time with his grandkids. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking.
Charlie is survived by his son, David K. Owens and his wife Debra of Des Moines; daughter, Deborah L. Hanks and her husband Thomas of Coal Valley,Illinois; son, Randall C. Owens and his wife Jill of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren: Kurt (Joy) Owens, and their children, Parker, Matthew, and Emma Grace; Thomas Hank Jr., Marian (Matthew) Odegaard, Nancy Hanks, Melinda Owens, Erin Harris, and Paige Harris; two brothers, Bob Crippen of Waterloo, and Marvin Selby of Horshoe Bend, Arkansas; and sister, Loretta Standard of Canton, Illinois

Nora E. "Nellie" Parker
Nora E. "Nellie" Parker, 93, passed away Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.
Nora was born May 18, 1910 to Ida Mae (Stout) Bickert. She attended East Waterloo High School and married Harold Burdette Parker in Galena, IL on December 23, 1933. He passed away May 7, 1967.
Nora worked as a switchboard operator at Northwestern Bell and later at Chamberlain's Mfg for 21 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Waterloo Boat Club and the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included archery, fishing, and hunting. She was Iowa State Champion in Women's archery in 1944. She was first runner up in Miss Black Hawk County in 1927.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Karlene J.(David) Kischer-Brown, Waterloo, Kim N. (Keith) Kischer-Larson, Cedar Falls, Keithlyn B. (Achilles) Parigoras, Waterloo, Bivan (Leslie) Kischer, Highland Park, IL. Nine great-grandchildren and son-in-law Kent W. Kischer, Waterloo. Brothers Kenneth Bickert and Stanley Bickert, Littleton and sister Lillian Voshell, Fairbank.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter Barbara J. Kischer. Brothers: Raymond Ludden, Frank Bickert, and Joe Bickert, Jr.

Louise Patterson
Louise Patterson, 96, of 3602 South Union Road, Cedar Falls, went to her heavenly home January 10, 2004 after a 3 month battle with cancer.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Ted in 1982, an infant daughter, and grandson Terry in 1999.
She is survived by her 8 children: Don of Cedar Falls, Dean (Gail) of Washington, Clint (Luanne) of Minnesota, Harlan (Kathy) of Ohio, Lee (Sally) of Clarksville, Jerry of Illinois, John (Margaret) of Cedar Falls, and Joan (Gary) Frieling of Wisconsin, 24 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, in addition to many relatives and friends.
Louise was born February 17, 1907 in South Dakota, grew up in western Minnesota and moved to Rural Clarion when she married in 1927. She and Terry S. “Ted” Patterson were married July 21, 1927 in Battle Lake, Minnesota. They moved to rural Parkersburg in 1956 and to rural Cedar Falls in 1976. She was very dedicated to her Lord, her family, and to farm life. She overflowed with unconditional love for all that she knew, especially her family. She was also active with crafts, cards, and letters.
Helen W. Penner
Helen W. Penner, 87, of Friendship Village died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at the center. Helen was born June 3, 1915 in Beatrice, Nebraska the daughter of Cornelius and Wilhelmina (Reimer) Penner.
Helen graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Bethel College (Bethel, Kansas) in 1945. She received her Master's Degree in Dietetics from Kansas State University in 1947. She worked for 11 years as a dietician at the University of Illinois, 6 years at the University of Utah, and then for a short time at a junior college in Modesto, California.
Helen is survived by 6 nieces and nephews: Harold Penner, Marilyn Epp, Alan Penner, Judy White, Richard Penner, and Helen Mae Penner. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Anna Penner, 3 brothers: Louis Penner, Gerhard Penner, and Waldo Penner.
Eldo G. (Pete) Petersen
Eldo "Pete" Petersen, 94, of Rosewood Estates, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center. He was born October 6, 1909 in Luzerne, Iowa, son of Chris and Libby (Chalupsky) Petersen. He married Beulah B. Wilson on October 30, 1946. She died March 20, 1997.
Pete graduated from Orange Township High School in 1927. He served in the United States Army during WWII with the 139th Ordnance MM Company and then worked as a mechanic for three farm implement dealers in the local area, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the South Waterloo Church of the Brethren where he was very involved. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to watch "Jeopardy" and " The Price Is Right."
Pete is survived by his brother, Loren Petersen of Waterloo, Iowa; sister, Opal Schrock of Waterloo, Iowa; 2 sister-in-laws, Alice Petersen of Waterloo, Iowa and Marge Petersen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beulah; 3 brothers, Howard, Robert and Estel Petersen and sister, Garnet Miller.
Evelyn F. Petersen
Evelyn F. "Loonan" Petersen, 88, of Reinbeck died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at Parkview Manor. She was born September 23, 1915 in Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Matilda (Schmidt) Dengler. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1931 and married Gordon J. Loonan on September 16, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died December 13, 1967. She then married Clarence M. Petersen on July 31, 1971 in Hudson, Iowa. He died January 4, 2003.
Evelyn worked in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona and in Iowa at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, West Side Maid Rite, Blue Goose Café, St Francis Cafeteria and retired from Hawkeye Tech in 1981
She was a member of the Community Church of Hudson and also belonged to the American Legion Auxilary.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons, Kent Loonan and his wife, Katie of Hudson, IA and their daughter, Sara Loonan of Scottsdale, Arizona; Greg Loonan and his wife, Marlene and their two children, Carly and Amy Loonan, all of Swisher, IA; step daughter, Janice Van Deest of Holland, IA; step daughter, Sharon Drenner and her husband, Duane of Cedar Falls, IA; step son, Denny Petersen and his wife, Pat of Minnetonka, MN; step daughter, Jean Hyde and her husband, Jerry of Waterloo, IA; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Percy Dengler of Cedar Falls, IA; sister in law, Verna Mae Dengler of Cedar Falls, IA; and sister in law, Joice Dengler of Denver, IA.
She is preceded in death by her husbands; sisters, Erma Franck, Esther Brown, Madeline Dewey, and Frances Andersen; and brothers, Howard Dengler and Willis Dengler.

Helen Petersen Drier
Helen P. Petersen was born in Waterloo, Iowa on November 14, 1930, to Herbert G. and Cynthia H. Palmer. She graduated from West High School in 1948, attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in Foods and Nutrition. Helen moved to New York City's Greenwich Village, to serve internships with the U.S. Public Health Hospital and Yale University prior to accepting a consulting position with the National Dairy Council. During a family visit back to Waterloo, she met her husband Robert W. Petersen. They were married on November 26, 1955 in Waterloo. Bob and Helen had three children, Dana Elizabeth, Robert Warren Jr. and Eric Palmer Petersen. Bob Petersen died December 10, 1973 at the age of 48.
After Bob's death, Helen became active in Northland Products Company, serving 12 years as President, prior to her retirement in 1986. She also assumed a very active service role in numerous industry and community leadership positions. Helen served as Vice-President of Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls,
General Chairman of the 1983 YWCA- Million Dollar Capital Campaign, Board of Directors of the Independent Lubricant Manufactures Association, Iowa Good Roads Association, National Bank of Waterloo, United Way, YMCA, Hawkeye Chapter of the American Red Cross, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, and the Girl Scouts Conestoga Council. She served on the Board of Governors of the Iowa College Foundation, Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of Covenant Health Care Foundation, Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Junior Achievement of Black Hawk Land, Board of Trustees Waterloo Civic Foundation, YWCA, Memorial Park Cemetery, and First Presbyterian Church Foundation. Helen was a former Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, IA and past President, P.E.O. Chapter FE
Helen Petersen was a 1998 Junior Achievement Cedar Valley Business Hall Of Fame Laureate, received the 1988 Athena Business Woman Of The Year and the 1985 Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award for her extraordinary contributions to her business and community.
Helen married Dr. William C. Drier MD of Waterloo on November 24, 1984. They shared a life together with family and friends between their homes in Waterloo and Scottsdale Arizona, family gatherings in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, and numerous travels.
Helen P. Petersen died of cancer on Sunday June 15, 2003 at Cedar Valley Hospice. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Dana P. McDermott of Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, Robert Jr. and Eric Petersen, both of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth L. Palmer of Overland Park, KS; and a sister, Carolyn Reynolds, Lincoln, IL.
