Roger A. Wagner
Roger A. Wagner, 81, of 2711 Crestline Ave., Waterloo, died Friday, September 5, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital. Roger was born September 7, 1921 in Waterloo, the son of Richard E. and Bessie Violet (Johnson) Wagner. He grew up in Waterloo and graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1939.
Roger joined the U.S. Navy August 22, 1942 and served until October 8, 1945. He worked for Carnation Dairy as fleet superintendent for 17 years, retiring in 1977.
Roger married Verna L. Weidman June 2, 1945 in Wiliamsburg, Virginia.
Roger is survived by his wife Verna; daughter Sandra L. (Bernie) Payne of Bermuda; daughter Lois E. Wagner of Stroudsburg, PA; son Michael A. (Claire) Wagner of Racine, WI; son Kim L. (Mary) Wagner of Waterloo; 7 grandchildren, Andrew Wagner, Elise Wagner, Carolyn White, Chad Wagner, Joanna Payne, Jonathan Payne, David Payne; 9 great grandchildren, Cody Allen Wagner-White, Jaima Louise White, Kennedi Shea Wagner, Kaiden Jeremy Wagner, Kristine Annette Payne, Jessica Lee Payne, Moriah Noel Payne, Jaxon Connor Payne, Shaalim David Payne; and brother Kenneth Wagner of Racine, WI. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert E. Wagner.
Susan B. (Sue) Waidley
Susan B. (Sue) Waidley, 81, of Waterloo died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab. Center from complications of diabetes. Sue was born on November 12, 1922 in Royalton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph Keiper and Margaret Elizabeth (Kavanaugh) Baum. She married Philip Waidley on August 16, 1945 in Steelton, Pennsylvania.
Sue attended Hersey Junior College in Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, was Worthy Matron of Becker Chapter #499 of the Order of Eastern Star 1987-1988, and a member of White Shrine #47. In her early years, Sue was an active member of her Church youth group. Later, she was a member of the garden club, women of the church and an avid bowler.
She was a woman of strong faith her entire life. Her greatest gift to this world was her ability to love everyone. Her family is so thankful to know and experience this kind of love. She will be dearly missed.
Sue is survived by her husband, Philip; son, Patrick Waidley and his wife Wanda; daughter, Michele Williams and her husband John; son, Terry Waidley; daughter, Victoria Clabby; 6 grandchildren: Chloe Adams, Randy Lawson, Chris Williams, Michael Williams, Jessica Clabby, and Zachary Clabby; brother, Paul Ethan Baum

Maxine M. Walthour
Maxine M. Walthour, 79, of 149 Terrace Drive, died on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home. She was born on November 12, 1924, the daughter of Frederick S. and Merle Wright. She attended school in New York City.
Maxine married Sam W. Walthour on August 16, 1947 in Bloomfield, NJ. She worked at the office of Dr. Hedican & Bloom for nine years, retiring in 1987. Maxine grew up in the East, but grew to love Iowa. She enjoyed reading, especially to her grandchildren. She was a senior volunteer in the 4th grade class at Irving Elementary School. Maxine loved the Lord with all of her heart.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Fred Walthour and his wife Joan, of McAllen, TX; daughter, Kathryn Glidewell and her husband Greg, of Waterloo; four grandchildren: William Walthour and his wife Elsa, and their daughter Mia, Samuel Glidewell, Sarah Glidewell, Benjamin Glidewell; and brother, William J. Wright and his wife Charlotte, of Port Saint Joe, FL.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Samuel.
Wesley A. Ward
Wesley A. Ward, 70, of 5845 Blue Sage Road died Thursday, December 16, 2004 at his home. He was born March 12, 1934 in New Hampton, Iowa the son of Gerald and Lillian (Olson) Ward. Wes graduated from New Hampton High School in 1952. He received his Associate’s Degree from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in LaCrosse.
Wes married Alice Schuft May 28, 1972 in Brownton, Minnesota. Wes worked for Stetson Building Supply and then for Menard’s for 10 years prior to retiring in 1998. He also worked as a Northeast Iowa Baseball Umpire. Wes was a member of the Masonic Lodge, York Rite, El Mecca Firehouse Gang, a Past President of the Caledonia, Minnesota Lions Club, and a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Wes loved baseball, dedicated to the game he was an umpire and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Wes enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an animal lover, and a kind and friendly man who was very outgoing. He was a military history buff especially the World War I and II era and he enjoyed reading westerns.
Wes is survived by his wife, a son Anthony Ward of Des Moines, and a son Thomas Ward of Fredericksburg, a daughter Julie Schmitz of Rochester, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren: Mark and Samuel Schmitz and Alexandria and Sally Ward. He is also survived by his brother Donald Ward and his wife Barbara of Waterloo, a sister Betty Parker of Lakeland, Florida, a sister in law Alice Ward of Olathe, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Andrew Wayne Ward, and his twin brother Wayne Ward.

Edith L. Watkins
Edith L. Watkins, 88, of 1117 Maxhelen Blvd died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center. Edith was born April 10, 1915 in Orange Township, Iowa the daughter of George E. and Emma (Callies) Cunningham. She graduated from Orange High School in 1933.
Edith married W. Stewart Watkins April 18, 1948 in Waterloo. She worked for Black's Department Store in Waterloo for 12 years, then at a department store in Chicago for 22 years retiring in 1970.
Edith is survived by her husband, a sister Dortha Iversen and her husband Kermit of Waterloo; 2 sisters in law Elsa Cunningham of Algona and Helen Watkins of Waterloo; and many Nieces and Nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters Helen Warnock and Arlene Spurgeon, and a brother Ray Cunningham.
Helen E. Watkins
Helen E. Watkins, 93, of Rosewood Estate, died on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Rosewood Estate. She was born on February 24, 1911 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Margaret (Galloway) Watkins.
Helen graduated from East High School in 1929. She worked as a secretary for John Deere until her retirement.
Helen is survived by her sister-in-law, Dortha Iversen. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, W. Stewart Watkins; and sister-in-law, Edith Watkins.

W. Stewart Watkins
W. Stewart Watkins, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday October 6, 2003 at the Rosewood Estates, Waterloo. He was born January 17, 1914 in Waterloo, son of LeRoy and Margaret Galloway Watkins.
He married Edith L. Cunningham April 18, 1948 in Waterloo. Stewart worked for Motorola in the Chicago area for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Stewart was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his sister: Helen Watkins of Waterloo. Two sister-in-laws: Dortha (Kermit) Iversen of Waterloo and Elsa Cunningham of Algona, Also, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife.
Thomas C. Watt
Thomas C. Watt, 68, of Waterloo, died September 2, 2004, from complications of cancer; he was at home, surrounded by family. Tom was born August 22, 1936, in Sioux City, IA, son of Clifford H. and Agnes (Moen) Watt He graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City in 1954 and received his BA degree from Morningside College. He married Jacque Birdsall on June 25, 1966 in Sioux City.
Tom worked for 35 years with Iowa Public Service, served as Vice President of the East District, and retired as Business Initiatives Manager for Mid American Energy Company in 2000. He then worked for Vision Development Services, Inc., as its Midwest Region Manager. He had also worked for Silos and Smokestacks and as Admissions Representative for Morningside College.
Tom served in the Iowa Air National Guard from 1953-1957 and was a member of Orchard Hill Reformed Church. He was past President of the Board of Directors of Covenant Medical Center Foundation, Board of Trustees of Cedar Valley United Way, Waterloo Downtown Rotary Club, Waterloo Chamber Ambassadors, Storm Lake Jaycees, Storm Lake United Way, and Sioux City Exchange Club; Campaign Chairman for Cedar Valley United Way; past Chairman of the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Cedar Valley Lakes Association, Waterloo Industrial Development Association Board of Directors, Cedar Valley Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, Cedar Valley United Way Board of Directors; member of Boys/Girls Club Board of Directors, Wells Fargo Bank Community Board of Directors, First Western Insurance, Inc. Board of Directors, and CUNA Mutual Insurance - Members Mutual Funds Board of Trustees; and member of Elks Lodge, Spokesman Club, Waterloo Goodfellows, and Symposium Club.
Tom received the Jaycees Outstanding Young Man award in 1971, Waterloo Citizen of the Year in 1988, and Morningside College Outstanding Alumni in 1992.
Tom is survived by his wife Jacque of Waterloo, IA; son: Jason (Lesley Cherry) Watt, of Eagle, Idaho; daughter: Heather (Rick) Bristow of Oelwein, IA; daughter: Dawn (Brad) Bateman of Cedar Falls, IA; five grandchildren: Krista, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Kendra; his mother: Agnes Watt of Sioux City, IA; brother: Jeff (Linda) Watt of Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Richard.
Gordon E. Watters
Gordon E. Watters, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, November 28, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born May 13, 1927, in Dunkerton, son of Raleigh Gordon and Agnes (Faulkner) Watters. He grew up in Hudson and attended Hudson High School.
Just before graduation, Gordon joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a SeaBee on Okinawa at the close of WWII.
Gordon married Phyllis Haberstich on December 21, 1947 in Waterloo. He was a partner in Austin & Watters Skelly Station and G & G Skelly working as a mechanic and station owner. After the service stations he was Northeast Iowa distributor for Bowes Seal Fast, a salesman for Harper Cleaning Supplies, and finally a volunteer at Allen Memorial Hospital.
Gordon is survived by his wife Phyllis; three daughters, Margaret Murders and Rebecka (Thomas) Wagner, both of Waterloo, and Elise (James) Thurm of Rapid City, SD; six grandchildren, Christopher (Angie) Murders, Nathan (April) Murders, Jason Thurm, Jennifer Thurm, Benjamin Wagner, and Emily Wagner; three great granddaughters. Ava, Brenden, and Shelby Murders; three brothers, Elvin of Hudson, Dale and Darrell, both of Waterloo; and a sister Ruth Oliphant of Waterloo.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, son in law A.V. Murders, sister Ethel Aschenbrenner, and an infant brother.
Dorothy G. Weber
Dorothy G. Weber, 79, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, October 02, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 14, 1925 on a farm near Quasqueton, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gladys (Moore) Wedge.
Dorothy married Harold A. Weber at Rev. Stevenson’s home on May 01, 1947 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Together for 57 years, Dorothy and Harold shared a strong love of family and church. Both provided support and guidance for Dean, Wanda, and Judy throughout their lives. They enjoyed camping and spending time with children, especially their only grandson, Dakota.
Dorothy taught Sunday School for many years and served as Sunday School Secretary for 15 years. She was active in church circles and King’s Daughters. She volunteered in Judy’s classroom at Cresthaven from 1983-1987. She was on dialysis for 5 1/2 years but never let that get her down.
Dorothy received her teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught 1 year in a County School In Middlefield township and 2 years at Quasqueton Elementary School. She worked at the Micro Switch in Independence, IA. and as a Teacher Associate at Castle Hill and Edison Elementary Schools.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Dean Weber, of Waterloo; two daughters, Wanda Hoeppner and her husband Greg, of New Hartford, and Judy Thompson and her husband Gene, of Cedar Falls; grandson, Dakota Hoeppner; and two sisters, Margaret Jean Morris, of Center Point, and Roberta Anderson and her husband James, of Quasqueton. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Betty Greene and Zinita Morris.
Harold A. Weber
Harold A. Weber, 84, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Sunday, October 03, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center. He was born on January 24, 1920 on a farm near Brandon, Iowa, the son of Charles L. and Florence (Peyton) Weber.
Harold married Dorothy G. Wedge at Rev. Stevenson’s home on May 01, 1947 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Together for 57 years, Dorothy and Harold shared a strong love of family and church. Both provided support and guidance for Dean, Wanda, and Judy throughout their lives. They enjoyed camping and spending time with children, especially their only grandson, Dakota.
Harold served in the Army Air Force during WW II. He then farmed for several years near Brandon and Independence and then owned Weber Implement in Independence in the 1950’s He worked at John Deere as a tool and die repairman for twenty-four years, before retiring in 1981.
Harold taught Sunday School, served on church boards and never said no when asked to do something for his church. He enjoyed sharing his skills with the Friends in Fun and Fellowship and neighborhood children. One of the highlights of his church life was a mission trip to Mexico.
Harold always enjoyed fixing and making things and was well-known in the community for repairing antiques. He restored antique furniture by making missing parts, bending wood for rocking chairs, and refinishing; stripping, staining, and varnishing. He also designed and made many things out of wood and metal. As a boy, he made toys for his sister, Ilah. He even made a garden tractor and a go-cart from scratch. These skills were passed on to his three children, friends, and relatives.
Harold is survived by his son, Dean Weber, of Waterloo; two daughters, Wanda Hoeppner and her husband Greg, of New Hartford, and Judy Thompson and her husband Gene, of Cedar Falls; grandson, Dakota Hoeppner; and sister, Ilah Behrens of Oelwein. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 infant sisters.
James L. Weikeit
James L. Weikert, 71, of 122 Sans Souci Drive, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at his home, of cancer. He was born May 12, 1933 in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Earl and Dorothy (Linrothe) Weikert. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1951.
Jim married Ilene Ihde on March 8, 1953 at the Horton Baptist Church, in Horton, IA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955, during the Korean War.
Jim was a truck driver for Rath Packing Company for twenty-eight years, from 1955 until retiring in 1984. He was then a self-employed over the road trucker with his wife from 1984 until 2000. He was a member of Hagerman Baptist Church in Waterloo.
Jim’s life, whether work or waterskiing or whatever he did, was a testament to his belief in the Lord, his deep love for his family, and his friendship to many and an example to all.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ilene; daughter, Vicki Weikert of Waterloo; son, Dean Weikert and his wife Linda, of Austinville, Iowa; daughter, Barb Mueller and her husband Max, of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Ann Green and her husband Jim, of Lansing, Michigan; and daughter, Carolyn Johnson and her husband Brent, of Waterloo; twenty grandchildren: Dana Petrovich of Aurora, Missouri: Daniel Morrissey, of Ft. Dodge, IA.: Hayley Novak of Muscatine, IA.: Caleb, Edith, Nancy, Lydia, Ezra, Abbie, and Elizabeth Weikert of Austinville, Iowa: Morgan and Emily Mueller of Omaha, Nebraska: Mary, Jimmie, and Paul Green of Lansing, Michigan: Carrick, Keenan, Kyle, Connor, and Carter Johnson of Waterloo; and four great-grandchildren: Riley and Nicholas Petrovich of Missouri: and Dillon and Lyric Morrissey of Waterloo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Betty Briggs and Jean Weikert.
Daisy M. White
Daisy M. White, 89, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died, Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital, of natural causes. She was born October 17, 1914 in Shibleys Point, Missouri, the daughter of William Everett and Bessie Leona (Osborn) Pierce.
Daisy married Ronald F. White on May 20, 1959 in Waterloo, IA. He died January 24, 1997. She cleaned houses and truly loved to fish for Walleye up in Minnesota. She attended Raymond United Methodist Church.
Daisy is survived by her son, Norman Moerlock and his wife, JoAnn, of Flippin, AR; Two daughters, Willene Vore and her husband, Jerry, of Cedar Rapids, IA and Eileen Howard and her husband, Larry, of Waterloo, IA; A sister, Ruth Brant and her husband, Alfred, of Raymond, IA.; Eight grandchildren; Sixteen great grandchildren; and Several great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; Three sisters, Vye Smith, Oma Arends, and Maudie Morelock; A brother, Luther Pierce; 1 grandson; and 1 great, great grandson.

Harold C. White
Harold C. White, 85, of 309 Frederic Ave died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Harold was born May 2, 1918 in Plainfield, Iowa the son of Kenneth and Blanch (Young) White. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1936.
Harold married Jacqueline Miller May 6, 1951. She died in 1975. He married Evelyn Kubik October 7, 1978 at the First Congregational Church in Waterloo. Harold served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked for Rath Packing Company for 42 years in the engineering department, in later years traveling around the United States to the different plants.
Harold was a member of the Waterloo BPO Elks #290. He was an avid flyer. He was a commercial licensed pilot with single, multi-engine and seaplane ratings. Although he flew a number of high performance aircraft, he was especially fond of flying his 1947 Cessna 140 which he purchased in 1952 and flew for over 50 years. Although this was a relatively slow airplane, 90 mph cruising speed, compared to today’s standard, he flew extended cross country flights to California, Washington state, Oregon, Florida, and Alaska. Harold was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and Quiet Bird Aviation.
Harold is survived by his wife Evelyn, a step daughter Linda Mattusch of Boulder, Colorado, a step son James Kubik and his wife Kathy of Rhodes, Iowa; 4 step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren, a brother Roy White of Plainfield, and a sister Florence Stufflebeam of Waverly. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Herschel Willhite
Herschel Willhite, 86, of Waterloo, Iowa died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital. He was born September 8, 1917 in Hartshorn, Missouri, son of William and Florence (Mullins) Willhite.
Herschel married Alice Bishop. They were later divorced. He then married Julia Barron. She died September 10, 2002.
Herschel worked as a Deputy Sheriff during the War for Black Hawk County and was later a reserve officer. He worked at Rath Packing Co. as a Loading Dock Foreman, retiring in 1982. Over the years, he ran Willhite Auto Repair at his house.
He is survived by a son, Donald Willhite and his wife, Janyce of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandchildren, Don Willhite Jr. and his wife, Patti of Des Moines, Iowa and Lisa Pazour and her husband, Rick of Puckwana, South Dakota; two great grandchildren, Anna and Drew; and one step grandson, Christopher; A special friend, Beverly Baish;
Herschel is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold.

Marjorie Williams
Marjorie F. Williams, 92, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. Marjorie was born March 18, 1911, in Monona, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Lula (Waugh) Grady. She graduated from East Waterloo High School.
Marjorie married Gordon O. Williams May 13, 1943 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She worked for a time at Waterloo Wood Bearing Company as a bookkeeper. Marjorie and Gordon were members of Sunnyside Country Club and she was a member of P.E.O. She liked to bowl and play golf. Marjorie had been active in Christ Episcopal Church then Trinity Episcopal Parish, their church family and the faith community. As Gordon traveled during the week, she was left to keep the home and family, leading to an independence and self reliance and a particular closeness to Jim as he grew up. She and Gordon were fortunate to have the opportunity to travel around the world at a time before that travel was as easy as it is today. Their trips included Cuba before Castro, the Bahama's, Australia and New Zealand.
Marjorie is survived by her son James G. and his wife Deborah Allmayer of Bloomington, Indiana, grandson Zachary and his wife Michelle and their daughter Nathalie of New York City, and grandson Brad R. of Ann Arbor, and step sister Geraldine Lawless. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon May 25, 1999.
Esther L. Winning
Esther L. Winning of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 09, 2004 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. She was born on November 23, 1930 in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Elmer and Julia (Schmidt) Hewitt.
She worked and volunteered at the Cedar Valley Food Bank and then worked at Target Department store for twenty two years.
Esther devoted her life and love to her family.
She is survived by her two daughters: Sandra Derifield and her husband Jerry of Waterloo IA, Marilynne Lewis and her husband Robert of Bettendorf, IA. Two sons: Arnie Winning Jr. of Waterloo IA, and Duane Winning of Waterloo, IA. One brother: Ronald Hewitt of Dunkerton IA. Fourteen grandchildren: Shon, Amy, Jerry Lee, Carrie, Lacy, Ashley, Olivia, Machalah, Eran, Brittney, Stephanie, Justin, Shane, and Brandon. Thirteen great grandchildren: Toby, Hunter, Angel, Cameron, Jonas, Julien, Brett, Crysta, Amanda, Samantha, Savannah, Brittney and Austin.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Beverly Miller, Bertha Mixdorf, Dorothy and Delores Hewitt, two brothers: Jim and Herald Hewitt.

Georgianna M. (Georgie) Witt
Georgianna M. (Georgie) Witt, 68, of Hudson, IA, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes. She was born on January 25, 1936 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Emery and Elnita (Nesfield) Schley.
Georgie graduated from East High School in 1955. She married Ken Witt on September 3, 1957 at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Waterloo, IA. Georgie and Ken operated Witt Photography from May 1, 1968 until December 31, 2001. She was a Deaconess of the Grace Baptist Church.

Walter S. Wood
Walter Stanley Wood was born in Birling, Kent England March 1, 1907 to Walter and Amelia Tomlin Wood. He came to the United States at the age of 6 with his mother, brothers and sisters to join his father who came ahead to establish a new home in Waterloo, IA. He attended Irving School and Sloan Wallace Junior High. He married Leola M. Sanderson Nov. 3, 1928 in Sioux City, IA. He is survived by a son Stanley (Rose Marie) Wood and a daughter Betty(Bill) Biemann, 14 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
He worked for John Deere Co. 35 years, retiring at age 60 and enjoying his retirement about six months of the year in Elysian, MN. He and his wonderful wife always embraced their children and grandchildren with open arms and LOTS of good food, enjoying good times and fellowship at the “little cabin in the woods.” They played cards and board games around the big table, and he patiently taught many of the children to water ski and swim safely. He taught them to fish and to clean fish (if you caught them, you cleaned them or cooked them!).
We were all aware that he was “born in England” and proud of it, but he loved his new country, too and was loyal to it. He fought the good fight after he was struck by cancer, and went through a lot of misery to survive for his kids and grandkids.
He is now at rest and with his beloved family members. He was preceded in death by his wife Leola in 1991, his daughter Dorothy A. Wrage in 1995; grandson, Cary Wrage and great-granddaughter Jessica Eilers; his parents, three sisters Ada MacDonald, Elsie Hagen, Ruby Jolls; three brothers Tom, Len, and Ted Wood.
Robert S. Wright
Robert S. Wright, 89, of Waterloo, died on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Friendship Village Retirement Center. He was born on June 1, 1915 in Union, Iowa, the son of William R. and Evaline (Stewart) Wright. He married Hazel Kennedy on November 15, 1936 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She died on August 23, 1991.
Robert graduated from Union High School in 1933 and furthered his education at Ellsworth Junior College, Iowa Falls, graduating in 1935. In 1962, Bob completed a 12 week law enforcement class with the FBI National Academy in Washington, DC. He worked at Rath Packing Co. for a period of time and then he joined the Waterloo Police Department in 1943 and worked foot patrol. In 1947 he was promoted to the Detective Division, In 1958 he became the Assistant Police Chief and in 1961 he was promoted to Chief of Police, retiring in 1970. Bob was responsible for the Griffin Vigilance emblem that is currently on our Waterloo Squad Cars today. After retiring from the Dept., he worked for the State Dept. of Corrections, supervising a halfway house work release program and later as a parole officer, retiring in 1980.
Bob enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Hazel had a cabin at Holiday Lake for many years. Bob and 3 of his co-workers formed a singing group called “The Four Beatmen.” Bob, Leslie Staack, Bob Beener and Ed Manbec would sing at clubs, lodges and PTA functions in the Waterloo area.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret McGrane and her husband Bill of Waterloo; a son, William Wright and his wife Bonnie of Eau Claire, WI; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Wright of Kauai, HI; 6 grandchildren: Bill (Mary) Wright of Houston, TX: Steve (Teri) Wright of Hutchinson, MN: Wendy (Erik) Norman of Savage, MN: Andy McGrane of Chippewa Falls, WI: Tom McGrane of Waterloo: and Susan (Andy) Jolley of Waterloo. Bob is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; and son, Ronald Wright.
Norma "Jean" Wymore
Norma "Jean" Wymore, 82 of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Health Care. She was born December 18, 1920 in Barnes City, Iowa, daughter of Everette and Margaret Ver Haaf Warrick.
She married Raymond D. Wymore on July 15, 1939 in Missouri. Jean spent her time raising her family and taking care of things at the house. She was a member of the Cedar Falls AmVets.
Jean is survived by her husband Raymond. Daughter: Rae Jean and her husband Dale Jeffries of Waterloo. Two sons: Larry R. and his wife Aloha Wymore of Cedar Falls; Kevin and special friend Debbie Baker of Cedar Falls. Ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Brother: Leon and his wife Dorothy Warrick of Sacremento, California. Sister: Marjorie and her husband Wesley Baie of Des Moines.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one son: Raymond Leon Wymore.
Cloeta Lavon (Clo) Yates
Cloeta Lavon “Clo” Yates, 80, of Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died there on Monday, February 7, 2005 after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 3, 1924 in Erie, Kansas, the daughter of James Sherman and Florence Marie (Engel) Foster. She married Willard J. Yates and they were later divorced.
Cloeta graduated from Erie, Kansas Business College in 1944. She worked as a Dental Technician at Dental Prosthetics Lab in Cedar Rapids for 28 years, retiring in 2001. She was a Charter member of Noelridge Christian Church and was active in church choir and Sunday school.
She is survived by her son, John S. “Steve” Yates (Lani) of Waterloo; daughter, Diane M. (John Lund) Hudson of Marion; three grandsons, Jeremy Van Hoeck, Dustin Ryan Yates and Brett David Yates; step-grandchildren, Erin Lund, Matt Lund Dana (Jason) Burgoon, Sophie Hopkins, and Ava Burgoon; and a niece, Nathalie Trietsch, of Arlington, TX.
Cloeta was preceded in death by her brother, Leo Foster.
Victor K. Yoden
Victor "Vic" K. Yoden, 84, of Waterloo, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Vic was born January 11, 1919, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of S.K. and Sato (Yoshida) Yoden. He graduated from high school in St. Louis in 1936 and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Nebraska University in 1936. Vic served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He worked for John Deere for 34 years as a design engineer, retiring in 1982.
Vic was a reserved man enjoying simple pleasures. He was a fisherman, golfer, bowler, and artist. He treasured his family and his friends and gave of his time and talents to his church.
Vic is survived by his sister in law Mary Yoden of Blackfoot, ID; niece Mary Ann (Jack) Yoden - Heath of Huntingtown, MD; niece Vicki (Michael) Henry of Beaverton, OR; great niece Kim Stone of Denver, CO; great nephew Christopher Kane of Los Angeles, CA; great nephew Jason Henry of Beaverton, OR; and great niece Lindsy Henry of Beaverton. Vic was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Bill, and niece Ruth Lee Kane.
