Robert Allen Palmatier
“Andy”, age 91 went home to be with the Lord on October 23, 2007. Andy was born in Charlton, New York on March 26, 1916, the third son of Clinton and Nora Smith Palmatier. In his early working years he was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Company, American Locomotive Company, and several farm owners. Later, he was the founding owner and operator of High Mills Garage, in Glenville, from 1947 until his retirement in 1987. He was uniquely gifted with the ability to diagnose and solve a large variety of mechanical problems. These gifts were well utilized to benefit many throughout his life.
Andy is survived by his wife of 70 years Julia Davis Palmatier; three children, Dr. Robert A. Palmatier, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Theodore H. (Alida) Palmatier of Yakima, Washington, and Mrs. Mary (Stephen) Lolik of Scotia, six grandchildren, James, Andrew, Teddy, Julie, Peggy, and Nathaneal; and six great grandchildren, Kate, Guy, Isabel, Steven, Grace, and Luke. Of his eight siblings, four Kenneth Palmatier, Margaret McHattie, Lyman Palmatier, and Russell Palmatier preceded him in death and he is survived by four Ralph Palmatier, Ruth Maranville, Harold Palmatier, and Howard Palmatier.
Mr. Palmatier, as founding member of the Board of Trustees at East Glenville Community Church, was known for his leadership of volunteer workers tackling the grounds and facilities issues of the site. Andy was known to family and friends for his generosity and help in times of need. He spent many hours boating and was an avid water skier. After retirement he took up the hobby of woodworking and made several cabinets and furniture pieces for his home.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Friday, November 2, 2007, at 6:00 p.m., at East Glenville Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to East Glenville Community Church or to the City Mission of Schenectady.

Douglas P. Bonk
Of Ballston Lake, passed away Monday, October 22, 2007 at his home. Born in Schenectady, December 28, 1949, he was the son of the late Raymond C. Bonk and Rita Bonk-Thackeray. Doug was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School. He worked for Niskayuna Schools. Doug was a graduate of the Railroad Institute in North Florida, Lincoln Welding School in Ohio and San Jacinto College in Texas where he studied advanced welding and psychometrics. He was a machinist, plant engineer, pipe fitter and millwright for Amoco in Texas. He enjoyed model railroads, sailing, skiing and outdoor activities.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather Edward Thackeray and his stepsister Patricia Thackeray. He is survived by his two daughters Katie and Kelly Bonk of Glens Falls; sister Margaret Hilson of Bovina Center, 2 brothers Kevin Bonk of Billings, Montana and David Bonk of Ballston Lake; 2 stepbrothers John Thackeray of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Edward Thackeray of Malta; 2 stepsisters Delia Thackeray and Ann Drew both of Fountain Valley, California and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 4pm Saturday, October 27, at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will precede the service from 2-4pm Saturday at the funeral home. Mary E. Tranka
Formerly of Amsterdam Road, Ballston Spa, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Wesley Health Care Center, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Charlton, March 29, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Clara VanNatten. Mary worked at Van Raalte’s in Saratoga Springs for many years. Mary and her husband owned and operated Tony and Mary’s Springs Plants on Route 67 in Ballston Spa.
She was predeceased by her husband Anthony Tranka, son William Tranka, 2 grandsons James and Robert Edward Tranka, and a great granddaughter Melanie Tranka. She is survived by her children John Tranka of Galway, Jean Webster of Glens Falls, Mary (Joseph) Brooks of Saratoga Springs, Robert (Donna) Tranka of Ballston Spa and Richard (Bonnie) Tranka of Rock City Falls; brother William VanNatten; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10am Saturday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Powell Wiswall Cemetery, Ballston Spa. Stanley J. Howard, Jr
Of Rowland Street, Ballston Spa, passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Saratoga Springs, April 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Howard. He was a graduate of St Peter’s Academy in Saratoga Springs. Stanley worked for Alliant Food Service for many years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed NASCAR, hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Gail Baker Howard; 4 children Geraldine Thompson and her husband Dana of Wilton, Catherine Howard of Saratoga Springs, Mark Howard of Anthem, Arizona and Jonathan Howard of Saratoga Springs; 4 grandchildren Michael Thompson, Erica and Lauren Hamilton and Derek Howard; 2 brothers Robert Howard and his wife Fonda of Lake George, David W. Howard and his wife Charlene of Ballston Spa and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10am Friday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Powell Wiswall Cemetery, Ballston Spa. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the funeral home. Stanley was a cancer survivor. Doris J. Suits
Of Route 67, West Charlton, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2007 at her home. Born in Porter Corners, August 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late David and Ruth DeHeer. Doris worked for Galway Central School for 30 years. She was a member of American Legion Post 1461 Ladies Auxiliary, West Charlton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Galway Senior Citizens. She served on the Saratoga County Board of Elections. Doris enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and dancing. She studied alternative medicine and homeopathic remedies.
She was predeceased by her husband Maurice B. Suits and two sons Maurice C. and George L. Suits. She is survived by her two children Margaret Kondrat and her husband Paul of West Charlton and Gordon L. Suits and his wife Deborah Suits of Broadalbin; two grandchildren Paul Ryan Kondrat and his wife Jessica of Ashland, Massachusetts and Rachel Suits of Casa Grande, Arizona; great grandson Tyler Kondrat; brother David DeHeer and his wife Marion of Schuylerville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 7pm Wednesday, October 17 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A calling hour will precede the service from 6-7pm at the funeral home. Helen E. (Olarte) Harrison
Of White Road, Ballston Spa, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007 at St Peter’s Hospice. Born in Chicago, Illinois, June 12, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Graham and Marion Erdwurm. She lived in the Ballston Spa area for most of her life. Helen worked for the NYS Office of Court Administration for 23 years, retiring in 2006. She enjoyed Native American history and shopping. She was an avid reader. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters Kate Mayer and her husband Eric of Ballston Spa, Joie Smith of Ballston Spa and Paula Olarte of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Samantha and Jordyn Smith; Abbey and Evan Mayer; and brother John Erdwurm and his wife Anne Carley of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life, 2pm, Sunday, October 7 at her daughter’s home, 32 White Road, Ballston Spa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Inn, c/o St Peter’s Hospital, 315 South Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.

Marie E. Baird
Of Route 29, Rock City Falls, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at her home. Born in Saratoga Springs, February 8, 1922, she was the daughter of Emmett and Katherine Farrington. Marie worked at Skidmore College for several years, retiring in 1984. She was an avid BINGO player. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Morton N. Baird and her two sisters Agnes and Jane. She is survived by her 3 sons James N. Baird (Janice) of Ballston Spa, John E. Baird of Rock City Falls and Richard M. Baird (Mattie) of West Milton; 5 grandchildren Jeremy, Jeffery and Jason N. Baird; Jolee E. Yennard and Jason E. Baird; brother Joseph Farrington of Saratoga Springs, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:30am Saturday at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Route 29, Rock City Falls, where a mass of christian burial will be celebrated. Alice Bayes Allard
Passed away, Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Life Care Center in Morristown, TN. She received loving care from all the staff and will be missed. Born in Amsterdam, December 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Ida Bayes. Alice attended school in Amsterdam, NY and lived most of her life in Ballston Spa, moving to Morristown, TN in 2006, to live with her daughter. She worked at General Electric Co in Schenectady, during World War II. She was also a waitress at the former Kansas Restaurant in Amsterdam. She later retired from the Ballston Spa Knitting Mill in 1979. Alice enjoyed needlework, sewing and loved to read.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Robert Allard, her sisters Anne Greene, Margaret Noonan, Mary Armer, Laura Belanger and Lillian Hughes and her brother Leonard Bayes. Alice leaves behind her beloved pet companion Tucker; her daughter Stephanie Bouford (William) of Morristown, TN; grandson John M. Kiernan III of Toledo, OH; granddaughter Alicia Russo; grandson William D. Bouford (Debra) of Morristown, TN; 2 great granddaughters Autumn and Gussie Anne Bouford; brother William Bayes of Simi Valley, CA and several loving nieces and nephews.

Reba Rickett Hyatt
Of Ballston Spa, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Maplewood Manor. Born in Hudson Falls, July 29, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Helena Rickett. She lived in Ballston Spa all her life. Reba worked as a bookkeeper for Bently Express and Ricketts Laundry for many years. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph L. Hyatt. She is survived by her son Jack (Lois) Hyatt of Fort Myers, Florida and daughter Kathy (Richard) Denner of Galway; her grandchildren Lauren Jordan, Andrew Hyatt, and Sarah Denner; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 nieces Elaine Whalen and Elizabeth Frank.
A graveside service will be held 1pm Tuesday, October 2, at Ballston Spa Cemetery, Garrett Road, Ballston Spa. There will be no calling hours. Daniel R. Warmus
Of Greenwich, passed away suddenly, Friday, September 28, 2007 at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Saratoga Springs, November 27, 1966, he was the son of Emil and Marjorie (Hapeman) Warmus. He worked at the Hungry Spot Café in Saratoga Springs and Galloway’s Restaurant in Schuylerville. Dan will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, camping trips to Schroon lake, his passion for cooking, his wry sense of humor and his big brown eyes.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, two aunts and two uncles. In addition to his parents he is survived by his fiance’ Kim Brandon and her children Melissa, Nicholas and Kayla; two sisters Christine (Lee) Murphy of Gansevoort and Martha (Martin) Petteys of Gansevoort; his son Mark and his mother Kris; his son Jakob and his mother Shari; his daughter Rachel; three nieces Allison, Katie, and Abigail; two nephews Cole and Samuel; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kevin R. Bodisch
Of Adams Circle, Ballston Spa, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at his home. Born in Columbus, Georgia, April 8, 1961, he was the son of Raymond Bodisch and Margaret Kelly. He was a graduate of Whitehall High School in Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He lived in Whitehall for many years and moved to Ballston Spa in 1996. Kevin was a pharmacist for Price Chopper Pharmacy.
He was predeceased by his wife Debra Bodisch. He is survived by his daughters Marissa and Jenna Bodisch of Ballston Spa; mother and stepfather Bruce and Margaret Kelly of Allentown, Pennsylvania; father and stepmother Raymond and Marjorie Bodisch of Auburndale, Florida and brother Keith Bodisch and his wife Jennifer of Whitehall, Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be held 11am Monday, October 1, at Christ Episcopal Church, West High Street, Ballston Spa. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11am Monday at the church. Homer G. Cole
Of Goode Street, Ballston Spa, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Maplewood Manor. Born January 28, 1927 in Medusa, he was the son of the late Homer and Emma Cole. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Homer began working for Niskayuna School as a bus driver in 1950 and became head custodian for Glencliff School the day it opened in 1956. Honored with 39 years of service, he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Mohawk Antique Auto Club. He enjoyed blue grass and country music and organized pickin’ sessions for the Ballston Spa Area Seniors and Maplewood Manor.
He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Gifford and brother Raymond Cole. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Marion Cole; his children Kenneth Cole of Ballston Spa and Deborah (Alan) Bills of Ballston Spa; his only granddaughter Melissa Bills of Ballston Spa and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12noon Thursday, September 27 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc

Shirley A. Louy
Of Raymond Drive, Malta, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 at her home. Born in Lindley, May 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Anna Allen. She was a graduate of Corning Northside High School. Shirley worked at Rochester Savings Bank for 19 years, retiring in 1985 and moved to Malta in 1998. She enjoyed antiques, cooking and watching the food channel. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Royce Louy; 2 daughters Michelle Louy of Salem and Melissa (Douglas) Davis of Ballston Spa; 5 grandchildren Katherine, David and Gregory Kern; Hannah and Ian Davis; sister Ruth Gorges of Presho; brother Claude Allen of Addison and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10am Monday, September 24, at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Town of Saratoga. Dorothy E. Garrison
Formally of Jockey St., Ballston Spa. Surrounded by her loving family Dorothy passed away Saturday September 15, 2007 at Sweet Country Manor in Ballston Spa.
She was born in the Town of Charlton July 25, 1914. She was the daughter of the late James and Bertha Arnold. She was raised and enjoyed living her life in the farming community. She was a member of the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church for 82 years, She served as a Deacon and was involved in the Women’s Association of the church. She had many hobbies, enjoyed making crafts, and loved to make quilts for her grandchildren. Dorothy will always be remembered for her loving and caring ways.
She is predeceased by her husband Roy A. Garrison and her son Arthur R. Garrison, 4 brothers Frank, Ralph, Russell, and Elwood Arnold. Survivors include her daughters Betty Denison and her husband Lester of Galway, Sara Gaba and her husband William of Middle Grove. 6 Grandchildren Linda (Patrick) Russo, James (Debra) Gaba, Lori Gaba, Jeff (Laura) Garrison, Patti (Mark) McConchie, and Brian Garrison, 7 great grandchildren, her sister in law Donna Lou Arnold and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11am Tuesday at the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church, Sacandaga Road Charlton. Burial will follow in the Ballston Spa Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Monday from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Armer Funeral Home Inc. 39 East High St. Ballston Spa NY 12020.

Ruth Blackwood Maxfield
Of Burnt Hills, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at her home. She was born in Wilton, October 31, 1922. Ruth worked for the NYS Department of Tax and Finance for 20 years, retiring in 1969. Ruth’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her first husband Paul Blackwood and her daughter Patricia Whitmore-Chonko. She is survived by her husband Raymond Maxfield; 2 children Paul Blackwood, Jr of Weare, NH and Audrey Kowles of Congers; sister Marie Waite of Wilton; close friend Robyn Lane of West Milton; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11am Monday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc, 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Dunning St Cemetery, Malta. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday afternoon from 3-5pm at the funeral home.

Stanley W. Murdock
Of Saratoga Lake, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Born in Cooperstown, January 19, 1922, he played baseball on the famous Doubleday Field. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Murdock worked for Tobin Packing Co in Albany for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching and living on Saratoga Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Madeline Kavic Murdock; 2 children Nancy Murdock of Waterford and David Murdock of Saratoga Lake; 2 granddaughters Lisa Murdock and Jarina Crump; and 2 great granddaughters Jaelyn Jackson and Saris Bishop.
Funeral services, with full military honors, will be held 1pm Friday, September 14, at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Town of Saratoga. Dierdre M. Yuhas
Of Greenfield Avenue, Ballston Spa, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at St Peter’s Hospice. Born in Troy, September 14, 1971, she was the daughter of the late Sirell Bristol and Dawn Delaney. Dierdre was a homemaker and enjoyed music and surfing the internet.
She was predeceased by her daughter Parker Yuhas. She is survived by her five children Peter Lord, Roxanne Lord, Trinity Yuhas, Hailey Yuhas and Dawn Uline all of Ballston Spa; the love of her life, that she was happy to find, Gordon Barrett of Ballston Spa; her brothers and sisters Peter Harrington of Fort Plain, Kim Carvin of Gansevoort, Beth Barnes of Nebraska, Danielle DeMarsh of Hadley, Sirell Fiel of Canajoharie, Nicole Shearer of Grand Gorge; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles "Rolo" Hance
Of Sherman Road, passed away suddenly, Monday, September 3, 2007 at his home, with his loving family by his side. Born in Amityville, June 5, 1963, he was the son of the late Louis and Margaret Hance. Charles worked for Northeast Pipe Works in Queensbury as a TV Tech. He was a member of the Ballston Spa Elks #2619. He enjoyed fishing, 4 wheeling, shooting darts and playing video games with his closest friends, Paul LaMarche, Donald MacMillin and Danny Murray. He also loved playing with his two great nieces Paeton and Lauren.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Louis and niece Kristie LaRouech. Charles is survived by his son Christopher Hance and his grandson Hayden both of Middle Grove; his sisters Ginny (Ray) Sharer of Illinois; Maggie Weber of Ballston Spa; Donna Benson of Hudson Falls; niece Shay and nephews Ron and Tim who considered Charles more like a brother than an uncle; and his other nieces and nephews Stacy, Tiffany, Angie, Lindsey, Laura, Scott and Dusty as well as other family members and many friends.
Charles lived life to the absolute fullest. He woke up every day with a smile on his face and could make the best out of any situation. Charles had a huge heart and was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed by all.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stoutenburg and all the nurses at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital for the care and compassion they gave to Charles during his illness.

James Silverstruck, Sr
Of Route 9P, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Westbury, August 10, 1933, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Silverstruck. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Silverstruck worked for CSX Railroad for many years, retiring in 1997.
He was predeceased by his wife Audrey Silverstruck. He is survived by 3 sons James (Susan) Silverstruck, Jr, of Georgia, Jeffery Silverstruck of Clifton Park and John Silverstruck of Malta; his grandchildren Michael, Lauren, Madison and Kelly; brother George Silverstruck; 2 sisters Helen Silverstruck and Barbara Gore and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service with full military honors will be held Wednesday, September 5, at Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Town of Saratoga. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

James S. Whalen
Of West North Street, Ballston Spa, passed away, Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at his home. Born in Ballston Spa, April 23, 1920, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Whalen. Jim and his three brothers served in World War II. He worked for General Electric Co for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed gardening and animals. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his brothers Miles Patrick Whalen and John Whalen. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene Posson Whalen; 4 children Marcia Ann (Michael) Andreadakis of Ballston Spa, James Paul (Valarie) Whalen of Corning, California, Barbara Jean (Rick) Creeden of Barkersville and Robert E. (Susan) Whalen of Ballston Spa; brother Wallace (Betty) Whalen of Ballston Spa; sister Rose (William) Hitchcock of Ballston Spa; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn Lucy Dean
Passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Saratoga Hospital. She was the daughter of the late William and May Evelyn Dean. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service 1pm Saturday, September 1, at Briggs Cemetery, Brookline Road, Ballston Spa.

Louise M. Coonradt
Of Ballston Spa, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Addison, Vermont, October 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Driscoll and Leona Driscoll Green. She grew up in the Glens Falls area. Louise worked at McDonald’s in Saratoga Springs for many years. She enjoyed going to BINGO with her granddaughters and nieces, and was known as Mom to everyone.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Greenlaw of Ballston Spa, Michael D. Coonradt of Wilton, Willliam Potter of Madisonville, Texas and Nelson Potter of Daytona, Florida; 5 sisters Betty Armer of Ballston Spa, Patty Robinson of Glens Falls, Van Cangey of Saratoga Springs, Cathy Sarkney of Huntsville, Alabama and Mary Garrett of Buffalo; brother Kenneth Green of Huntsville, Alabama; 7 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, 1 great grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Debra Smith Russo
Of Northline Road, Ballston Spa and formerly of Eagle Lake, Ticonderoga, passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at her home. Born in Great Lakes, Illinois, July 19, 1957, she was the daughter of Phyllis L. Barnett Smith and the late John E. Smith, Jr. Debra was a dental receptionist at First Advantage Dental in Saratoga Springs. She enjoyed shopping, NASCAR, football, crafts, going to the racino and spending time with her cats Daisy and Kit Kit.
In addition to her father she was predeceased by her grandfathers John E. Smith, Sr and John Jay Barnett; grandmothers Olga Johnson and Lucille Moore and uncle Jerry G. Smith. She is survived by her longtime companion Michael Wilber, Jr of Ballston Spa; her sons John F. Russo III and Justin E. Russo both of Ballston Spa; mother Phyllis L. Barnett Smith of Westport; brother Jay E. Smith of Malta; nieces Amanda and Lacey; cousins Kathy and Annette; Aunt Jane Smith Hayes of Warrensburg; Uncle John H. Moore of Tucson, Arizona; and best friends Donna Stewart of Williamsburg, Virginia and Tina Hilliker of Malta.
A memorial service will be held 8pm Wednesday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc, 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will precede the service from 6-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Frank M. Holbrook
Of Jockey Street, Charlton, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 at his home. Born in Charlton, January 31, 1921, he was the son of the late Clarence and Margaret Holbrook. He was a 1938 graduate of Ballston Spa High School and attended Cornell University farm winter course. Frank was a dairy farmer and with his father and son Jim, they hauled farmers canned milk into Schenectady for 50 years. He was widely known for selling apples, pears, plums and cider, “down on the corner” of Route 67 and Jockey Street. He was a seed dealer for DeKalb from 1969-95.
He was a former member and trustee of Charlton Freehold Presbyterian Church and former trustee and current member of West Charlton United Presbyterian Church. He was a lifetime member and former commissioner of Harmony Corners Fire Department, serving for 70 years. He served as a Director and past Vice President of Sweetman Cemetery Association and was made a Director Emeritus in June, 2006. He was a founding member of the Charlton Historical Society, member of Saratoga County Extension Service, member of Charlton Milton Grange, former member, director and treasurer of Saratoga County Farm Bureau and committeeman of Farm Services Agency. He was on the Town of Charlton Planning Board and a former zoning administrator. In his early 40’s Frank bought a 2-seat Aeronca Chief aircraft and learned to fly the single engine plane. He often took off and landed at the farm.
He married Barbara Chalmers Bunyan of Ballston Spa on May 29, 1941 and was predeceased by her on November 3, 1987. He is survived by his wife Catherine Holbrook; 2 children Judith A. Curtiss (Orville) of Charlton; James C. Holbrook of Charlton; 5 stepchildren Emily Civiletta of Cicero, Fred Goslin of Watertown, William Goslin of Ballston Lake, Elizabeth Douglas of Marietta and James Goslin of Swanton, VT; 2 sisters Marion B. Champagne of Galway and Emily DeRidder of Marlboro, MA; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; and several nieces nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11am Friday at West Charlton United Presbyterian Church, Sacandaga Road, West Charlton. Burial will follow in Sweetman Cemetery, Charlton. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc, 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
