Sonia N. Chase
Of Jockey Street, Galway. Entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness. Born in Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Turchyn. She was a graduate of Galway Central Schools. She worked for General Electric Co. and later for the Galway Central School District. On October 22, 1949, she married Roger Guy Chase. After retiring, Sonia derived great joy traveling with her husband throughout the United States and Canada. She was a member of the American Legion Post 70 Ladies Auxiliary of Saratoga Springs and the Galway Senior Citizens.
She was predeceased by her son Gerald William Chase.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years Roger G. Chase; son Ronald Roger Chase; granddaughter Heather E. Hogan and her husband Todd of Fort Plain; two great grandchildren, Connor and Hallie Hogan.
A memorial service will be held 3pm Monday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc. 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will precede the service from 1-3pm Monday at the funeral home.

Barbara Higgs Corcoran
Of Ballston Spa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home. Born in Gloversville, April 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Herbert I. and Evelyn Higgs. She was a graduate of Oneonta State Teachers College.
Barbara was a talented and much respected teacher for the Ballston Spa School System for over 30 years. The children loved her and enjoyed the many excursions she took them on including trips to the planetarium in NYC. Barbara and her husband owned and operated the Robin Hood Motel in Ballston Spa for many years. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and directed some of the local church choirs. She hosted two fresh air children from NYC for a few summers. She loved working with ceramics and family and friends were gifted many of her artistic treasures. She also enjoyed painting. She was a member of the NYS Teachers Association.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas C. Corcoran.
Survivors include her sister Dorotha Cenesky and her husband John of Binghamton, brother Donald Higgs and his wife Marie of Vestal; nephew George Higgs and his wife Judi of Johnson City; 3 nieces Jacqueline Eakin and her husband Ron of Horseheads, Mary Higgs of Dickson City, PA and Donna Higgs of Vestal. She is also survived by many cousins and her dear friends Terry and Sharon TenEyck of Ballston Spa.
Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ballston Spa. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11am Thursday at the funeral home.Barbara will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and staff at the Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home for the kind and thoughtful care they gave Barbara. Elva M. Noyes
Formerly of Milton Village Apartments, Ballston Spa. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2006 surrounded by her family and caregivers at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa. Born in Ballston Spa, June 11, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma Askew. Mrs. Noyes was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and fishing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a member and past matron of the Franklin Star Chapter 369 Order of the Eastern Star in Ballston Spa. Elva and her husband Max spent several summers running Max and Woody’s Cabins and Camps on Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine. She was an active member of the Old Stone Church in Ballston Spa and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
She was predeceased by her husband Max R. Noyes, 2 sisters Elizabeth Crandall and Thelma Perkins and a brother Clarence Askew. She is survived by her children Betty Birnbaum of Burnt Hills, Beverly (Ken) Sharadin of Ballston Spa, Barbara (Ken) Thompson of Berryville, Arkansas, Robert (Diane) Noyes of Avon Park, Florida and Clifford (Maureen) Noyes of Ballston Spa. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8pm Friday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will precede the service from 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth G. Wallace
Formerly of Factory Village, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born in Muncie, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence Gorman. She attended school in New Castle, Indiana before moving to Ballston Spa. Mrs. Wallace worked for Ackshand Knitting Co in Ballston Spa and later for O’Brien’s Pharmacy in Ballston Spa for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ballston Spa.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Wallace.
Survivors include her brother Howard Gorman of Anderson, IN; niece Cheryl Morgan of Anderson, IN; nephew Jerry Gorman of Anderson, IN and special friends Richard and Evelyn Freeman of Saratoga Springs and James Egan of Ballston Spa.

Herbert J. Johnson
Of George Avenue, Round Lake, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at his home. Born in Beekmantown, April 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Herbert and Alyce Johnson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Johnson worked for NYSEG in Plattsburgh and Mechanicville for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a deputy for the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department and worked for the Village of Round Lake Department of Public Works. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Village of Round Lake. He was a member of the Ondawa Lodge 820 of Mechanicville, Clifton Park American Legion, Round Lake Hose Co and Malta Ambulance Corp.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers John, Gerald and Lawrence Johnson, and a sister Bernyce Jaramillo. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Doris M. Hicks Johnson; 4 children Cheryl Johnson of Manassas, VA, Karen Wickham of Schenectady, Michael (Amanda) Johnson of Ballston Spa, Jimmy Johnson of Round Lake; a stepdaughter Janice (Joseph) McConnell of Lewisville, NC; 3 brothers Bernard (Barbara) Johnson of Delaware, Richard (Rita) Johnson of Morrisonville, and William Johnson of Champlain. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred D. August
Of McLean Street, Ballston Spa. Passed away, Friday, December 30, 2005 at Saratoga Hospital. Born September 27, 1928 in Rotterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Dominick and Jennie August. He served as a Military Policeman in the Air Force. Al worked for Kraft’s General Foods in Saratoga Springs for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ballston Spa. He enjoyed bowling, playing poker and was an avid New York Yankee fan. He also enjoyed the company of his two cherished cats, Sam and Sarah.
He was predeceased by his daughter; Nancy August; brothers; John, Joseph, Albert and Peter August, Sisters; Carrie DeSimone, Margaret Ravena, Mary August and Violet Cinguegrano. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Constance August; two brothers; Dominick August of Crystal River, FL, and Richard August of Westmont, IL; along with several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:30am, Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, where a mass of christian burial will be celebrated. Dorothy G. Dreher
Formerly of Maple Avenue, Ballston Spa.
Passed away Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born in Ballston Spa, September 3, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Sarah Morris. Mrs. Dreher worked for Ackshand Knitting Mill in Ballston Spa, the Barkersville Infirmary and later retired from the Saratoga County Infirmary where she was a nurse’s aide for many years. She was endeared to all who knew her. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved to cook and bake for her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband George Dreher Sr, son George Dreher Jr, 4 sisters Mabel, Corabelle, Loretta and Becky and 2 brothers Louis and Gordon. She is survived by a son Garry (Gerda) Dreher of Ballston Spa; daughter in law Joan Dreher of Ballston Spa; 4 grandchildren Joseph (Laura) Benoit of Cazenovia, Jerry Benoit and fiancée Pam DeAngelo of Ballston Spa, Lori Dreher of Burnt Hills and Debbie Wilson of Burnt Hills; 8 great grandchildren Jeremiah Benoit, Nicholas Benoit, Amanda Benoit, Aaron Benoit, Elaina Dreher, Ethan Wilson, CJ Wilson, and Seth Wilson; brother Steven Morris of Rock City Falls; 2 sisters Sally Bennet of Ballston Spa and Eleanor Harris of Ballston Spa.

James E. Cornell
Of Greenfield Avenue, Ballston Spa.
Died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born in the Town of Milton, May 30, 1928, he was the son of the late Alva and Lena Cornell. He served in the US Army. Mr. Cornell worked for Ballston Knitting Co for many years.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers Charles, Donald and William Cornell, and 2 sisters Eleanor Richards and Carol Donaldson. Survivors include 3 brothers Alvah Cornell of South Glens Falls, Dennis Cornell of Ballston Spa and Frank Cornell of Greenfield Center; 2 sisters Lillian Bush of Ballston Spa and Sally Loya of Ballston Spa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Amelia M. Robinson
Of Doubleday Woods, Ballston Spa.
Died Friday, December 23, 2005 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born in Ballston Spa, April 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Pastore. Amelia was a dietary aide at the former Benedict Memorial Hospital in Ballston Spa for 17 years and later worked for the Saratoga County Infirmary for many years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and Lois Rebekah Lodge No 635 of Galway. She enjoyed playing cards and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Robinson , 2 daughters Judy Crandall and Sandra Prunier; 1 brother and 6 sisters. She is survived by her daughter Roberta (Robert) Smaldone of Ballston Spa; 3 sisters Betty Rickel of Porter Corners, Angie Marcantonio of Ballston Spa and Kate Pastore of Geneva. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Heather Marie Cutbush
Left on the wings of angels on December 21, 2005, due to injuries she received in a car accident on December 15. She was just a few days shy of her 24th birthday on December 26. She graduated from Cobleskill-Richmondville Central Schools in the year 2000. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. She was a very special person with the ability to love and understand anyone. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her grandmothers Suzan Morris and Barbara Bellmore.
She is survived by her parents Duane and Myschell Stangle of Howes Cave; 3 brothers Eric (Megan) Cutbush of West Milton, Thomas Stangle of Schenectady, and DJ Stangle of Howes Cave; 2 sisters Tia Stangle of Schenectady and Stephanie (BJ) Dambrosi of Gloversville; 2 nieces Dakota and Issabella; 2 nephews Anthony and Sully; her maternal grandfather Roger Morris of Ballston Spa; paternal grandmother Janet Stangle of Galway; paternal grandfather Neil Bellmore of Alpena, MI; and great grandmother Alice Pashley of Clifton Park. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Adele Downs
Formerly of Charlton Street, Ballston Spa.
Died Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Saratoga Springs.
Born in Schenectady, March 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Adele Dolezal. She moved to Ballston Spa in 1958. Adele worked for the Southern Adirondack Library System as a senior clerk for many years, retiring in 1984. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Ballston Spa Library and served on the Board of Trustees and as president for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband John Downs. Survivors include her son William Downs and his wife Dorothy of Ballston Spa, her daughter Mary Ellen Palmateer and her husband Russell of Saratoga Springs; 7 Grandchildren Jessica, Russ, Sarah, Michael, Mary, Robert and Peter, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Floyd C. "Bob" Baker
Of Van Vorst Drive, Burnt Hills and Winter Harbor, Maine.
Died suddenly Monday, December 19, 2005 at Ellis Hospital.
Born in Rock City Falls, August 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eva Baker. He was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 7th Infantry Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. Floyd was a designer draftsman at General Electric Co in Schenectady for over 40 years, and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a trustee and co founder of the Fix It Group at Burnt Hills United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer for Community Human Services and a pastoral visitation volunteer at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. He was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church in Rock City Falls.
He was predeceased by his brother Fred Baker. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Dorothea Emigh Baker; his daughters Deborah Roberts Delamater and her husband Rev. Alan Delamater of Burnt Hills, Roxanne Baker Baugh of Burnt Hills; 4 grandchildren Matthew Roberts and his wife Colleen of Troy, Sarah E. Roberts of Boston, MA, Jordan Baugh of Burnt Hills and Aaron Baugh of Burnt Hills; brother John Baker of Ballston Spa and 2 sisters Enid Older of St. Cloud, FL and Veda Brown of Ballston Spa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Paul E. Phelps
Of Wood Road, Ballston Spa.
Died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born in Roxbury, March 18, 1924, he was the son of the late Ward and Florence Phelps. Mr. Phelps served in the United States Army during World War II, Korea and the Vietnam era and retired as master sergeant. After his retirement from the Army, he worked for the Saratogian for several years.
He was predeceased by his wife Hazel Laird Harrison Phelps, his son Daniel Phelps and 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Survivors include his 2 children Ricky Phelps and Linda Phelps of Vermont; 5 stepsons Kenneth B. Harrison of Granville, David L. Harrison of Galway, Daniel R. Harrison of Perth, Clifford G. Harrison of Las Vegas, NV and Jerry R. Harrison of Broadalbin; a sister Gladys M. Phelps Aubrey of Burnt Hills, and a brother Joseph Phelps of Michigan. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
