Heston Weyrich - December 24, 2000
MONTESANO - Former Grays Harbor County Extension agent for Washington State University, Heston Osborn Weyrich, 88, died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in the SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation facility at Montesano.
Mr. Weyrich was born Dec. 25, 1911, at Mount Vernon to Henry and Maude (Osborn) Weyrich. He grew up in Mount Vernon, where he graduated from high school in 1929.
He had lived in Montesano for 50 years and had also lived in Ellensburg, Sequim, Vancouver, Wash., Sunnyside and Cathlamet.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in plant pathology from Washington State College in 1936.
On Oct. 23, 1937, he married Gladys Marie Rumsey at Anacortes. She died in 1996.
From 1951 until retiring in 1968, Mr. Weyrich was the extension agent in Grays Harbor County. He was then an instructor and grounds keeper at Grays Harbor College until 1973.
He had been extension agent for Kittitas County in 1936, Clark County in 1942 and Wahkiakum County from 1942 to 1951.
He had also been milk tester for the Skagit County Dairy Herd Improved Association at Mount Vernon and for Clallam County in 1937 and a sales agent for the Morning Milk Co. at Sunnyside in 1942.
He was a member of the Washington State Grange for 74 years and a 7th Degree Grange member. He also belonged to Wynooche Masonic Lodge No. 43 and Epsilon Sigma Phi, an extension service honorary fraternity.
Mr. Weyrich enjoyed fishing, pitching horse shoes and reciting poetry. He had been a race horse owner for 20 years.
He is survived by a son, Dr. James H. Weyrich of Montesano; a daughter, Margaret Lynn "Peggy" Fasano of Seattle; a brother, Cecil of Anacortes; a sister, Vivian Jones of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.

Robert Winningham - December 24, 2000
Robert L. Winningham, 65, of Humptulips, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Grays Harbor Community Hospital at Aberdeen.
He was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Aberdeen to Roy Lester and Sylvia (Johnson) Winningham.
He was raised in Moclips, graduating from Moclips High School in 1954. In school, he participated in basketball, football and boxing.
Mr. Winningham served with the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 in the South Pacific, including Japan and Guam. In Guam in 1956, he was the All Navy Middleweight Champion in boxing.
After his discharge, he returned to Moclips. In April 1958, he married Ann Hanson at Pacific Beach. She survives him at the family home.
Mr. Winningham was a logger for a number of companies from 1962 to 1974. He also owned and operated a shake mill from 1971 to 1982 and lived in Neilton.
Beginning in 1971, he worked each June and July as a commercial fisherman in the Bristol Bay area of Alaska. In 1982, the couple moved to Alaska, where Mr. Winningham was a commercial salmon fisherman in Bristol Bay, as well as a crab and halibut fisherman in the Homer, Alaska, area.
In 1995, the couple returned to Grays Harbor, living in Humptulips and operating the Winningham Shake Mill.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Robert of Aberdeen, Rich of Ocean Shores, Mark of Neilton and Bo of Kenai, Alaska; a daughter, Heidi Bennett of Humptulips; a sister, Sylvia "Dee Dee" Peaker of San Jose, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Aberdeen Rotary Log Pavilion.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Barbara Dinning - September 24, 2000
EUREKA, Calif. - Elma native Barbara Ann Dinning, 74, of Eureka, Calif., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at home.
Mrs. Dinning was born Oct. 25, 1925, to Delbert and Helen (LaBrec) Westover. She graduated from Elma High School in 1943.
On June 25, 1947, she married William H. Dinning. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Dinning had also lived in Shelton and Klamath, Calif.
She enjoyed tole painting and quilting and gave many of the things she made to family members.
She is survived by two sons, Howard of Eureka and Dale of Cloverdale, Calif.; a daughter, Sherida Hads of Redwood City, Calif.; a sister, Maxine Morrow of Elma; a brother, Leslie Westover of Elma; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no service. Arrangements were by Chapel of the Ferns Cooper Mortuary at Eureka.
Audrey Coyle - December 25, 2000
Longtime Hoquiamite Audrey Coyle, 89, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Long Term Care facility at Aberdeen.
Mrs. Coyle was born Jan. 6, 1911, at Hoquiam to Frank and Parthencia (Smith) Osborn.
On Nov. 10, 1932, she married John Wayne Coyle at Wenatchee. The couple lived in Spokane for several years and owned and operated a cherry orchard there for a short time.
They moved to Hoquiam in the mid-1940s. He died in 1983.
Mrs. Coyle and her husband had owned and operated Popeye's Lunch, the Sailor's Rest Tavern and Bridgeview Lunch, all in Hoquiam, and Mode O'Day, a dress shop in Aberdeen.
Mrs. Coyle had also worked for Cleaver's Women's Apparel, O'Connor's, a dress shop, and the Tip Top Tavern, all in Hoquiam, and J.C. Penney stores in Aberdeen and Hoquiam.
She was a member of the Hoquiam Eagles Auxiliary, where she had been president four times. Her mother and grandmother had also been president of the group.
Mrs. Coyle helped organize and run many of the auxiliary's benefits, including bingo. She had also volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen, where she ran the gift shop.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam and also helped with the church's bingo. She belonged to the Altar Society there and the St. Anthony Guild.
She and her husband had traveled to many places in the country, including Alaska and Hawaii. She had also visited other areas of the world, including Africa, Europe, Thailand and Tahiti.
Survivors include three sons, Donald of Winlock, Edward of Aberdeen and Thomas of Hoquiam; two daughters, Beth Burris of Aberdeen and Eleanor Jones of Gilbert, Ariz.; two sisters, Maxine Bitiner of Olympia and Betty Worthley of Montesano; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, in Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church. A concluding service and interment
will follow in Hoquiam's Sunset Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary of Hoquiam.

Amy E. Crane-Cobb - December 24, 2000
McCLEARY - Amy Eloise Crane-Cobb, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at her home in McCleary. She had lived in McCleary for 65 years.
Mrs. Crane-Cobb was born Feb. 6, 1913, in Lebanon, S. D., to Harold and Minnie (Alden) Kirby.
She had been a data entry clerk for the state Department of Natural Resources and retired in 1980. Previously, she worked for the Olympia Oyster Co. and at a fruit cannery in Olympia.
She was a member of a non-denominational Christian group that met at her home every Sunday for the past five years. She also belonged to a breakfast club of DNR retirees in Olympia.
She married Edgar Crane on Mar. 21, 1931, at Gettysburg, S.D. He died March 10, 1993.
She married Harold Cobb on Sept. 4, 1993, at McCleary. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Crane-Cobb enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She raised sheep, sheared them, made and colored her own wool and made afghans for family members.
As a young woman in South Dakota, she had helped on the family farm, learning to plow fields with a team of horses. She held family reunions of 80 to 100 people at her home during the 1980s and '90s. She also enjoyed reading.
She is survived by a son, Donald Edgar Crane, of Yuma, Ariz.; a step-son, Walter Cobb, of Red Oak, S.D.; three daughters, Beverly Lucille Brophy of Nehalem, Ore., and Melva Marie Underwood and Rosalie Nadine Miller, both of Montesano; a brother, William Kirby of Lacey; three sisters, Doris Kirby of McCleary, Iris Crane of Fremont, Calif., and Marilee Lewis of Olympia; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A sister, brother and grandson all died before her.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 28, at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.
A funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at the McCleary Veterans of Foreign Wars. Interment
will be in the McCleary Cemetery.
Christopher A. Clark - December 24, 2000
Former Central Park resident Christopher Allen Clark of Bellevue died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in a Bellevue nursing home. He was 27.
Mr. Clark was born May 27, 1973, in Bremerton to Gene and Kay Clark.
He attended Miller Junior High School in Aberdeen. On July 14, 1987, about two months before beginning his freshman year at Aberdeen High School, he was injured when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a log truck in Central Park. He remained in a coma for many years.
Four years after the accident, his classmates honored him with a moment of silence during the Aberdeen High School graduation ceremony.
Survivors include his father of Aberdeen; his mother of Puyallup; a brother, David of Seattle; a sister, Amy Murray of Desert Center, Calif., and two grandmothers, Mildred Baxter of Wapato and Libby Cockrum of Seattle.
A celebration of his life is set for 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at Green's Funeral Home in Kirkland.

Marcile C. Cooper - December 24, 2000
MONTESANO - Marcile Capitola Cooper, 78, who had lived in Elma for 36 years, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in the SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation facility in Montesano.
Mrs. Cooper was born July 29, 1922, at Myrtle Creek, Ore., to Homer E. and Capitola A. (Dyer) Abbott. She was raised at Myrtle Creek and graduated from Myrtle Creek High School in 1940.
On Dec. 31, 1941, she married Roger Cooper at Bremerton. He survives her at the family home.
Before moving to Elma, Mrs. Cooper worked as an administrative assistant at the Gresham (Ore.) General Hospital for four years.
She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star Valentine Chapter at Myrtle Creek and Charity Chapter in Elma. She was a life member of the Rebekah Lodge at Myrtle Creek.
She enjoyed collecting tea cups, growing African violets, reading romance novels, shopping and cooking.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Terry and Dr. Roger Cooper, both of Sherwood, Ore.; a brother, Homer Edward Abbott of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and three granddaughters.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Bethany Baptist Church in Elma.
Arrangements are by the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.
Memorial donations are suggested to the church.
Leona M. Miettunen - December 21, 2000
BELLEVUE - Former Aberdeen teacher Leona M. Miettunen, who had lived in Seattle for many years, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Bellevue. She was 86.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Mt. Baker Park Presbyterian Church. Private entombment was in the Washelli Cemetery in Seattle.
Arrangements were by the Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home at Seattle.
Betty Arisman - December 22, 2000
Betty J. Arisman, 70, who had lived at Ocean Shores for many years, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Aberdeen.
Mrs. Arisman was born June 30, 1930, at Wilton, N.D.
Her husband of 47 years, Otis C. Arisman, died in 1996. They had traveled extensively together.
Mrs. Arisman was also an avid gardener and is remembered as a good cook and baker.
She is survived by two children, Tana R. of Seattle and Marvin R. of Ocean Shores; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter and numerous sisters and brothers.
A graveside service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the Washington Memorial Park at SeaTac.
Arrangements are by the Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, also at SeaTac.
Donations in her memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Patricia Kincaid - December 26, 2000
OLYMPIA - Elma resident Patricia R. Kincaid, 50, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2000, in the Puget Sound Health Care Center at Olympia.
Mrs. Kincaid was born Nov. 5, 1950, at Martin, S.D., to Mildred Ruth (Ratigan) Turpitt and the late Richard Thomas Turpitt. She was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Donald M. Petersen, at Rapid City, S.D.
She graduated from Kent Meridian High School at Kent in 1969 and had also lived in Forks, Oak Harbor, Auburn and Sweet Home, Ore. She lived in the Montesano/Elma area for six years.
On May 6, 1970, she married Danny Kincaid at Holley, Ore. They later divorced.
For the past 18 months, Mrs. Kincaid worked as a clerk for the Dennis Co. in Elma. She had also worked for Everybody's grocery in Elma for five years.
She is survived by her stepfather of Rapid City; two sons, John M. of Lynnwood and Christopher L. of Elma; a brother, Richard Turpitt of Rapid City, and a sister, Karen Rask of New Underwood, S.D.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.
A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Interment
will be in the Satsop Cemetery.
Catherine Lorton - December 22, 2000
RAYMOND - Lifelong Bay Center resident Catherine J. Lorton died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Raymond. She was 84.
Mrs. Lorton was born June 11, 1916, at Bay Center to Lewis and Bessie (Pickernell) Hawks.
She was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church at Bay Center and had sponsored many children for Bible camps and churches.
Her husband, Lloyd "Buck" Lorton, was lost at sea about 20 years ago. Mrs. Lorton was a member of the Quinault Indian Nation.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret Payne of South Bend and Sarah Haataia and Dorothy Hill, both of Naselle; eight sons, Lester of Tumwater, John and Ray, both of Aberdeen, Carl of Lake Quinault, Hess of Raymond and Phillip, Vernon and Ralph, all of Bay Center; 57 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A son, LeRoy "Butch" died before her.
A funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Raymond Assembly of God. Burial will follow in the Bay Center Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Stoller's Mortuary of Raymond.

Roderick 'Shane' Guile - December 24, 2000
SEATTLE - Roderick "Shane" Guile of Olympia, a charter boat owner and skipper at Westport for 30 years, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in the Swedish Hospital Medical Center at Seattle. He was 71.
He was born Dec. 10, 1929, at Kellogg, Idaho, to Marion Moultrie Miles and Alys Claudia (Connolly) Guile.
He lived in Kellogg as a toddler and was raised in Grants Pass, Ore. After 1931, he lived in various places on the Oregon Coast.
He graduated from high school at Grants Pass in 1946.
Mr. Guile served in the Navy for 26 years. From 1955 to 1965, he served two tours during the Vietnam War and later did a tour duty in the Korean War.
After 1971, Mr. Guile was retired from active duty and spent six years in the naval fleet reserve.
He attended naval academies, maritime training schools and earned a business degree in 1979 from Grays Harbor Business School.
After 30 years of being a skipper and charter boat owner, he retired last October. Before that, he worked with his stepfather, who owned a logging business in Grants Pass.
When he was 15, he worked as a stream guard in Alaska scaring off bears and eagles that ate the salmon.
He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, an Elks club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Association of Charter Boat Operators and Sons of Italy "Bella Vita" in Olympia.
Mr. Guile enjoyed fishing, hunting, target shooting and traveling. He collected guns and was a licensed gunsmith.
He married Angelina Nancy Dipaola on June 29, 1980, in Bremerton. She survives him at the family home.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Roderick Zane of Allyn; two stepsons, Bruce M. Vetch of Camano Island and Brian M. Vetch of Centralia; a stepdaughter, Brenda M. Vetch of Colleyville, Texas; two half brothers, Gordon of Kirkland and Richard R. Howell, of Grants Pass; three half sisters, Ardith Payne, Karen Word and Claudia Bowers, all of Grants Pass; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Michael and Shane Jr., died before him.
A funeral Mass is set for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen.
Interment
will be in the Miller Woodlawn Cemetery at Bremerton.
Arrangements are by the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
