Alice left this earth on June 4, 2001, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born on February 18, 1915 to Lillian and John Wynkoop in Wapato, Wash.
Alice was a remarkable woman who lived her life with faith, courage, dignity, strength and love. Her greatest passion was her family. She was a marvelous homemaker, avid bridge player, insatiable reader and incomparable cook. Alice was one of the first women to join the Toppenish Chamber of Commerce in the early 40s. She moved from Toppenish in 1946 and pursued a career at US Plywood in Seattle. In 1959, Alice joined her husband Fred on an adventure at Mount Rainier, building and operating Frontier Village. When Alice's life changed due to MS, she and Fred moved to Federal Way where she resided happily for 26 years. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Charles Day (Bea) and Dick Oldfield (Jo), sisters-in-law Helen Oldfield and Mary Nyberg and her aunt, Medi Lomax.
Alice's most devoted caregiver was Fred - a more devoted husband you will never find. Also, her caregivers Merle Harrison, Shirley Phillips, Anetta Galgovics, Bea Taylor, Ashley Nicholls and her favorite nurse, Jeanette Treen, were all loyal, caring, giving and loving companions to Alice. Without the care of these special individuals, the family would not have been able to keep Alice at home.
Since Alice always fed the children over the years, we are asking that, in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the Emergency Food Network, 3318 92nd Street S., Lakewood, WA 98499.
