Stanley O’Leksy
KINGSFORD — Stanley R. O’Leksy, 88, of 613 E. Sagola Ave., Kingsford, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Dec. 4, 1912, in Norway, son of the late Andrew and Sophie (Hmeilowski) O’Leksy. He had been a resident of the area his entire life.
He married Josephine Yourkoski on May 21, 1938, at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. She preceded him in death in 1992.
Stanley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in Europe for three years and participated in the D-Day invasion.
He worked for the Dickinson County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator for more than 30 years, retiring in 1976.
Stanley was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed the outdoors, trout fishing and was an avid sports fan.
He leaves a son, Stanley (Margaret) O’Leksy of Antioch, Ill.; a daughter, Sharon (Robert) Bright of Fayetteville, Ark.; three brothers, Anthony (Ceil) O’Leksy of Kenosha, Wis., Chester (Lois) O’Leksy of Norway and Walter (Ethelene) O’Leksy of Norway; three sisters, Violet Zychowski of Vulcan, Stella Yourkoski of Vulcan and Sophie Breclaw of Loretto; and two grandsons, David (Marie) O’Leksy of McQuire Air Force Base, N.J. and Kevin O’Leksy of Antioch, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, John and Julius and a sister, Maria Zanon.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery.

Daniel Dennis
IRON MOUNTAIN — Daniel Thomas Dennis, 46, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of Livonia, lower Michigan, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at his home in Florida.
He was born Feb. 16, 1955, in Detroit, son of Donald Dennis and Patricia Mairorano Sr.
Daniel served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a prosthetic technician.
Daniel enjoyed Harley motorcycle riding.
He leaves his wife, Julie Dennis of Orange City; his father and stepmother, Donald (Edie) Dennis of Sarasota, Fla.; his mother and stepfather, Patricia (Joseph) Mairorano, Sr. of Land O Lakes, Fla.; a son, Lonnie Koons of Korea; his stepsons, Richard and James Grundtner, both of Minnesota; his stepdaughter, Stacy Grundtner of Minnesota; two sisters, Cindy Mills of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kimberly Sweeney of Livonia; two brothers, Michael Dennis of Livonia and Paul Dennis of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren and many stepbrothers and stepsisters.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.

Irene Baldinelli
IRON MOUNTAIN — Irene M. Baldinelli, 93, of 225 Garfield St., Kingsford, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
Irene was born Dec. 25, 1907, in Wheeling, Ill., daughter of the late George and Sylvia (Buckmaster) Varvil. She was a resident of the area for more than 70 years.
She married Joseph Baldinelli on Dec. 27, 1927. He preceded her in death in October of 1957.
Irene had worked for 10 years at General Controls in Kingsford.
She volunteered for the Dickinson County Hospital League for many years.
She leaves a son, Robert Baldinelli; six grandchildren, Dennis Baldinelli, Debby (Ehi) Izirein, Terry Kowalski, Linda Allen, Robin (Eugene) Theis, and Judy Bohmann; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Philip, Daniel, Ashley, Brittney, Dominic, Ailohi, and Emilohi; two great-great-granddaughters, Angelina and Allyanna; two brothers, Dana Varvil of Marquette and Howard Varvil of Escanaba, and a sister, Betty Samson of Albuquerque, N.M.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Constantineau in March of 2001; two brothers, Floyd and Lowell Varvil, and a sister, Violet Perkins.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Jeffrey Wallner
ISHPEMING — Jeffrey Carl Wallner, 46, of 602 N. 7th St., Ishpeming, passed away suddenly, Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1955, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Carl and Doris (Wright) Wallner. He graduated from Kingsford High School, class of 1973.
Jeff worked 22 years for Standard Register Co., selling and servicing business equipment.
He currently was serving as president of U.P. Whitetails of Marquette County, was a member of the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club, U.P. Hunter and Recreational Shooters, National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC).
Jeff previously served as Scout Master of Troop 326 and was Cub Master for many years of Pack 329 of Ishpeming and a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.
He was also a member of United Presbyterian Church in Ishpeming.
Jeff was an avid hunter, who enjoyed the outdoors. His hobbies included making maple syrup and bowling on the Twin City Dodge bowling team.
He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed following his sons sporting events.
He leaves his wife, whom he married May 5, 1979, Linda (Smith) Wallner of Ishpeming; three sons, Jason, Andrew and Steven, all at home; a sister, Vicki (Joe) Antonini of Spread Eagle, Wis.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Jane Smith of Iron Mountain; two brothers-in-law, Craig (Denise) Smith of Cornell and Tim (Mary) Smith of Iron Mountain; his nieces and nephews, Dr. Michael (Heather) Antonini of San Bernadino, Calif., David (Shannon) Antonini and their children, Nicholas and Nolan of Wausau, Wis., Maria (Nick) Antonini and her daughter, Victoria Grimm of Green Bay, Wis., Mathew and Michael Smith of Cornell, Kristen and Tim Smith of Iron Mountain, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will be sadly missed by his special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Henry Smith.
Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. (Eastern time) Sunday at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pastor Steve Paradise will officiate.
Burial will take place in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain at a later date.

Barbara Peterson
IRON MOUNTAIN — Barbara Jean Peterson, 67, of 701 East A St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Victor and Violet (Roberts) Cerasoli.
Barbara was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked for the power company for several years before she married Donald J. Peterson on March 2, 1957, at First United Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. He preceded her in death in August of 1997.
Barb had worked most recently at Bimbo’s where she made pizza crusts for the past 10 years. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, reading and most of all, shopping.
She leaves a son, Robert Peterson (Laurie Armstrong) of Menominee; two daughters, Lori Peterson and Judy Peterson, both of Iron Mountain; three sisters, Lorraine (James) Joers of Kingsford, Yvonne (Dean) Jacobson of Iron Mountain and Carol (Richard) Vick of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Donald Peterson and Kelly and Terri Skog; two sisters-in-law, Carol Louise Cerasoli of Milwaukee and May Olson of Breitung; a great-aunt, Carol Polkinghorne of Iron Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Cerasoli and a sister, Shirley Lindstrom.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Rev. Msgr. Carl Steiner
OCONTO FALLS, Wis. — Rev. Msgr. Carl E. Steiner, 72, of Wrightstown, Wis., entered eternal life Friday morning, May 11, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1928, on the Steiner family farm in Charlesburg, Wis., son of John and Ida (Steffes) Steiner.
As a young boy he attended St. Charles Catholic Grade School and Chilton High School before transferring to Salvatorian Seminary in St. Nazianz, where he completed high school and junior college in 1949. He then entered St. Meinrad Seminary in southern Indiana and completed his philosophy and theology studies. On June 4, 1955, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Bona at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, Wis., and celebrated his first solemn Mass at his home parish of St. Charles Church in Charlesburg on June 9, 1955.
Fr. Steiner first served as assistant pastor at Holy Name Parish in Kimberly until 1956. From 1956 to 1968 he was an instructor at Sacred Heart Seminary in Oneida. During this time he received his master’s degree in library science from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and a speech therapy major at Marquette University in Milwaukee. From 1968 to 1979 he served as pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara and was bestowed the honor of Monsignor (which means member of the Pope’s household) in 1975. It was also during this time Fr. Steiner took an active role in the Cursillo Movement for retreats and followed the Niagara boy’s basketball team all the way to the state championship in 1979.
From 1979 to 1989 he was pastor at Holy Name Church in Kimberly where he continued to be active in youth sports of all kinds and eventually was elected to the Kimberly High School Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1989 he moved to Stiles and was pastor of St. Patrick Church and St. Louis Church in Abrams until Aug. 1, 1994, when he was assigned to St. Anthony Church in Oconto Falls. Fr. Steiner served both St. Patrick in Stiles and St. Anthony Church in Oconto Falls until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1998 at which time he moved to Wrightstown.
Over the years, Fr. Steiner has been an avid Green Bay Packer fan and season ticket holder, having missed only seven home games in more than 40 years.
He enjoyed hunting, card playing, golfing, Notre Dame football, boys high school basketball and football, girls basketball and all sports in general.
Along with his brother, Leo, they attended the Brewers/Cubs game at Miller Park this past Tuesday.
He was privileged to have traveled in all 50 states during his life and this past March, traveled to Australia and New Zealand with two priest friends. Together with Fr. Frank Kerscher, they enjoyed their cottage at Townsend named “Frankenstein.” Even since retirement, Fr. Steiner has continued to support the mission work of the church and has visited and supported missionaries in Haiti, Dominican Republic and Mexico.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown.
He leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Jeanette Steiner of Charlesburg; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sister Agnes M. Steiner of Lake Forest, Calif., and Mary Gertrude and Orville Rieth of Chilton; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews, and his fellow priests of the Diocese of Green Bay, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Emil and three sisters, Cecelia, Jennie and Lydia.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Main Street (Highway 22) and Cherry Avenue, Oconto Falls. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Reception of the body will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday by Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken at Holy Name of Jesus Parish Church in Kimberly. Visitation will continue until 9 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. Thursday until time of funeral Mass. The funeral liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord’s Resurrection, will be at noon Thursday at Holy Name of Jesus Parish Church in Kimberly. Bishop Robert J. Banks will be the main celebrant and Father Jack Mullarkey will preach the homily.
Burial will be in St. Charles Catholic Church Cemetery in Charlesburg.

Dorothy LaForce
IRON RIVER — Dorothy A. LaForce, 78, of Iron River Township, passed away Friday, May 11, 2001, at Iron County General Hospital in Iron River.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.

Robert Raffin
IRON MOUNTAIN — Robert A. Raffin, 47, of N7280 M-95, Sagola Township, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born June 11, 1953, in Iron Mountain, son of the John and Irene (Formolo) Raffin. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1971 graduate of Iron Mountain High School.
He worked for Domenic Chiapusio at Chiapusio’s Gas Station and K&G Appliance for a short time.
He married the former Edith Kleiber on April 28, 1990, in Gladstone.
Robert was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing. He went on to work for Lake Shore Inc. for 18 years and most recently had been working for Customer Metal Fabrication Co. in the Industrial Park. He also owned and operated Andiamo U.P. Limited, a small engine repair business, for the past 10 years.
Robert was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting. He was a member of Brass Roots, NRA and the archery league at Sugar Creek Outfitters.
He leaves his wife, Edith; a brother, John “Jack” (Barb) Raffin of Merriman; a sister, Carol (Pete) Curtis of Iron Mountain; his mother-in-law, Joan Kleiber of Gladstone; nieces Tracy (Jim) Lowe of Kingsford and Marie (Kevin) French of Menominee and their son, Bryce; many other nieces and nephews; an aunt, Gloria Gendron of Pine Creek; special friends, Chuck Peterson, Clem Jauquet, Roger Reiten, Ron Groeneveld and many other friends; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Rose Church in Channing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the church. Fr. Tony Kadavil will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Clem Jauquet, Chuck Peterson, Roger Reiten, Carle Steele and Tim Rice.

Robert LaPointe
IRON MOUNTAIN — Robert D. LaPointe, 71, of 1013 West B St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the University of Iowa Medical Center.
Bob was born June 28, 1929, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Henry and Maire (Heyer) LaPointe. He was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain.
He married Joanne Desmarais on May 13, 1950, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
Bob worked for Ironworkers Local Union 8 (AFL-CIO) for 30 years. After retiring, he also worked for Lar-el Bus Services for two years.
He loved flying and owned his own plane.
Bob was a member of the EAA Chapter 438 of Iron Mountain.
He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, and helping his boys with various projects.
Bob truly enjoyed other people’s company and was known for his kindness.
He leaves his wife, Joanne; three sons, Paul LaPointe (Connie Schultz) of Kingsford, Jon LaPointe of Iron Mountain and Peter LaPointe of Iron Mountain; a brother, Henry LaPointe of LaBranch; a sister-in-law, Patricia Shaw of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Harmony, Emily, Conrad and Amber LaPointe, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Edward LaPointe.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Dan Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Mary Richards
IRON MOUNTAIN — Mary G. Richards, 87, of 1610 S. Park Ave., Iron Mountain, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Freeman’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Kingsford.
She was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Hancock, daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Driscoll) Shea.
She married Edgar “Bud” Richards on March 31, 1932, in Hancock. They resided in Hancock for 24 years, Phoenix, Ariz., for 11 years and in Iron Mountain for the past 34 years.
Mary was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. She volunteered at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain for many years.
She leaves her husband, Edgar “Bud” Richards; two daughters, Mary Clare (Ray) Branz of Naples, Fla., and Sheila (Jean) Barbe of Spread Eagle, Wis.; two brothers, Marcus Shea of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Edward (Frances) Shea of Leisure World, Ariz.; a sister, Geraldine Shea of Kingsford; six grandchildren, Debra (John) Pucci of Iron Mountain, Michael (Michele) Branz of Naples, Fla., Kathy Schwann of Naples, Mary Bridget (Larry) Wetzel of Villa Park, Calif., Julie (Dave) Sprenger of Laurium, Houghton County, and Cally (John) Furton of Glencoe, Ill., and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Shea, and a sister, Margie Cuff.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Paul Nomellini will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Dr. Joseph Logic
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Dr. Joseph Richard Logic, 66, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, April 28, 2001.
Dr. Logic retired from the UAB in 1999, where he was a professor of medicine and radiology in the division of nuclear cardiology.
He was currently the professor of physiology at Spartan Medical School on the Island of St. Lucia.
Dr. Logic was the past president of the Alabama Society of Nuclear Medicine, Alabama Heart Association and Birmingham Cardiovascular Society.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Margo Logic; and two sisters, Joanne Logic Taglienti of San Diego, Calif. and Marion Logic Myshrall of Greensacres, Fla.
A funeral Mass was held May 1 at St. John Bosco Church in Birmingham, Ala.
The family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Aquilino Lupini
IRON MOUNTAIN — Aquilino “Bay” Lupini, 95, formerly of 621 Crest St., Kingsford, died Sunday morning, May 13, 2001, at Appleton Medical Center in Appleton, Wis.
He was born Sept. 9, 1905, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Domenic and Maria (Petritti) Lupini.
He married Angeline Petritti in 1934, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kingsford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline, on June 19, 1988; four brothers, Jim, John, Nello and Melio Lupini, and a sister, Linda Gardiepy.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Paul Nomellini will officiate.
Burial will follow in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The family is being served by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Ruth Thompson
FAITHORN — Ruth M. Thompson, 83, of Faithorn, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Nathan (Menominee County), daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Lamson) Robertson.
Ruth married Clarence LeGrave in 1936 in Menominee. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1965.
She married Melvin Thompson on Nov. 4, 1972, in Hermansville.
Ruth was a member of St. Mary Church in Faithorn, St. Mary’s Altar Society and sang in the choir. She was a member of St. Barbara Church in Vulcan.
She worked as a cook at the Wildwood Restaurant in Hermansville for many years. She enjoyed cooking and crafts and entertaining family and friends.
She leaves her husband, Melvin; two sons, Ronald (Karen) LeGrave of Faithorn and Kenneth (Bonnie) LeGrave of Faithorn; two daughters, Donna Walli of Stephenson and Carmen (Roger) Tomasi of Kawkawlin, lower Michigan; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lawrence Walli and three brothers, Percy, Elroy and Gerald Robertson.
Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Barbara Church in Vulcan.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. William Callari Friday at noon at the church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Faithorn.

Mary Servia
NORWAY — Mary Servia, 83, of Norway died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Norway, daughter of the late Stanislaw and Katherine (Sanicki) Bal.
Mary married John Servia on Jan. 19, 1935, in Norway. They were lifelong residents of Norway, operating a dairy farm.
She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her garden, visiting with her customers and treating them with a beautiful selection of fresh vegetables. She loved to cook, have company and serve her favorite specialty, Polish “perogi.”
Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway, St. Mary’s Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
She leaves two sons, Walter (Gertie) Servia of Munising and George (Rosemary) Servia of Norway; a daughter, Bernice (Don) Siegler of Norway; nine grandchildren, Mary Servia, James (Debbie) Servia, Patty (Ahmet) Dincer, Laura (Paul) Swick, Mike (Kim) Servia, Mark (Linda) Servia, Randy (Wendy) Servia, Larry Siegler, and Janet (Bill) Spring; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mike Bal of Gaastra, Louie (Nancy) Bal and Edward Bal, both of Norway; two sisters, Elizabeth Jankowski and Victoria DeYonghe, both of Norway; two sisters-in-law, Stella Bal of Powers and Ann Bal of Norway, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; four brothers, Bill, Henry, Albert and Joseph Bal, and a sister, Anna Penkiveck.
Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miner Funeral Home in Norway.
Prayers will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. Fr. Mark McQuesten will officiate.
Burial will follow in Norway Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James, Mike, Mark and Randy Servia, Larry Siegler and Bill Spring.

Caroline Papiez-Stachowicz
NILES, Ill. — Caroline Papiez-Stachowicz, 99, of Fort Wayne, Ind., died May 4, 2001, in Fort Wayne.
Born in Lubenia, Poland, mother of Edwin (Helen) Papiez of Fort Wayne; grandmother of four; and great-grandmother of five.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stachowicz, in 1981.
She was a stepmother to Roman (Betty) Stachowicz of Niagara, Wis., Josephine (the late Albert) Nordell of Niagara, Wis., and Irene (Ron) Helms of Buffalo Grove, Ill. There are nine stepgrandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
A 10 a.m. Mass was offered at St. Thecla Church.
Interment was in St. Adalbert Cemetery in Chicago.
The Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.

Leona Samsa
KINGSFORD — Leona D. Samsa, 95, of Kingsford, passed to her eternal reward on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna, Wis.
She was born June 16, 1905, in Coleman, Wis., daughter of the late Medric and Luciana (Rouse) Durocher.
On Jan. 22, 1923, she was united in marriage to John P. Samsa. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Leona was a founding member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Circle and the Catholic Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include her children, LaVerne Johnson of Rockford, Ill., Donald (Beverly) Samsa of Appleton, Wis., Fr. Bertin L. Samsa, OFM, Cap. of Weyauwega, Wis., Fr. John F. Samsa, OFM, Cap. of Puerto Lempira, Honduras, and Margaret (Douglas) Lynn of Honolulu, Hawaii; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Leona was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Luciani; her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
Friends may call at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, 901 Carpenter Ave. in Iron Mountain, on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or on Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford.
Fr. Paul Nomellini will offer the Mass of Resurrection concelebrated with Frs. Bertin and John Samsa.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Leona’s name has been established.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. William G. Gustafson, the staff and volunteers of St. Paul Home for the tender loving care given their mother over the past 6 1/2 years.

Lucille Belpedio
ISHPEMING — Lucille Belpedio, 80, of 307 W. Division St., Ishpeming, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming.
Lucille was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late William and Mary (Pipp) Beitel. She lived in the Ishpeming area for the past 50 years.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4573. Lucille enjoyed playing bingo and bowling in the Ishpeming Housewives League.
She leaves a daughter, Dr. Carla Narrett and her husband, Dr. Rick Ott of West Orange, N.J.; a son, Dr. Peter (Jocelyn) Belpedio of Marquette; two grandchildren, Craig and Lauren Belpedio; two sisters, Violet Hiltz of Plymouth, lower Michigan and LaVerne (Robert) Gorman of Farmington Hills, lower Michigan; a brother, Donald Beitel of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter in 1998; a brother, William Beitel; and two sisters, Marie Kelly and Louisa Felicia.
Visitation will be held today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Central time) at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home, 400 N. Third St., Ishpeming. A parish wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Peter Oberto will officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Immediately following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Ishpeming VFW Post 4573, 310 Bank St., Ishpeming.
Memorial contributions in Lucille’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Duane C. Blackberg
KINGSFORD — Duane C. Blackberg, 59, of 740 Boyle St., Kingsford, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at his home.
He was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Jeanette (Annear) Blackberg.
Duane was a graduate of Kingsford High School and worked as a truck driver for many years.
He married the former Ann Sam in Iron Mountain in May 1970. She preceded him in death on April 16, 1997.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto racing and was an avid Packer fan.
He is survived by, a sister, Charlene (Mitch) Leinen of Aurora, Wis.; a nephew, Mitch (Peggy) Leinen of Aurora; a great-niece, Kayla Leinen of Aurora; an aunt, Barb Conery of Iron Mountain and an uncle, Earl Annear of Iron Mountain; special friends, Wally and Shirley Haupt, Harold Henricksen, Jean Anderson and his caregiver, Ron Amour.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev. Bruce Linscheid will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.

Wilhemina Siegler
IRON MOUNTAIN — Wilhemina Siegler, 82, of Hardwood died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at her home.
She was born April 1, 1919, in Escanaba, daughter of the late Ole and Josephine (Mores) Nelson. She had been a resident of Hardwood most of her life.
She married Elmer Siegler on Nov. 14, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2000.
Wilhemina was a member of Mission Covenant Church in Foster City and belonged to the Covenant Women Ministries of the church.
She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, her flowers and working in the garden.
Wilhemina loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Elmer, she was preceded in death by her son, Gerald, on April 23, 2000; a brother, and a sister.
She leaves her daughters, Nadine Briere of Milwaukee, Sharon (John) McGuire of Hardwood and Karen (Mark) Plunger of Hermansville; a daughter-in-law, Joan Siegler of Lake Geneva, Wis.; four sisters-in-law, Rosella Brozak of Iron River, Violet Kossmann of Fresno, Calif., Crystal Robinette of Marquette and Laura Siegler of Hardwood, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate.
Burial will be in Foster City Cemetery.

Sharon Wickstrom
IRON RIVER — Sharon L. Wickstrom, 63, of 309 W. Hagerman Lake Road, Iron River, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 13, 1937, in Stambaugh, daughter of the late John and Sylvia (Kivimaki) Olds. She graduated from the Iron River High School in 1955.
Sharon then moved to Milwaukee where she worked as a secretary for the Inland Steel Co.
She returned to Iron River and in June of 1958 she married George Wickstrom. The couple continued to make their home in Iron River.
Sharon had also worked as a secretary for the former Schinella-Mottes Contruction Co. and for 12 years had worked at the former Coleman Products Co. in Iron River.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Olds.
She leaves her husband, George; two sons, George Allan (Lisa) Wickstrom and James Wickstrom, both of Iron River; a daughter, Kim (Mike) Mastie of Iron River; two sisters, Faye (James) Grindatti of Caspian and Barbara Sealander of Shawano, Wis., and two grandchildren, Bradley Wickstrom and John Mastie.
There will be no visitation.
Private family services will be held with burial to be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
The Langenberg Funeral Home-Iron River Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Bradley
IRON MOUNTAIN — Linda M. Bradley, 53, of N3408 Quinnesec-Lake Antoine Road, Breitung Township, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 20, 1948, in Munising. Linda had been a resident of the are for the past six years, coming from Munising.
She married her husband, Durl on July 10, 1964, in Munising.
Linda had worked as a caregiver in several area convalescent homes, most recently Victorian Pines. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, ceramics and fishing. She loved her grandchildren.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother, father and a son.
She leaves her husband, Durl; a son, David of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Robin (Douglas) Matchett of Iron Mountain and Lori (Michael) DeFiore of Iron Mountain; a brother, William (Bonnie) Mercier of Munising; a sister, Elizabeth (Stanley) Boyer of Flint, lower Michigan; seven grandchildren, Faith Matzen, Nicole Matzen, Harley, Olivia and Justin DeFiore, and Levi and Steven Matchett; her mother-in-law, Irma Brown of Manistique; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and a special friend, Delores Reed of Munising.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Randy St. John will officiate.

Yvonne Molle
NIAGARA, Wis. — Yvonne C. Molle, 67, of 421 Maple St., Niagara, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at her cottage following a courageous fight with cancer.
Yvonne was born Oct. 10, 1933, in Niagara, daughter of the late Hubert and Lydia (Thomson) Weber. She was a lifelong resident of the Niagara area and graduated from Niagara High School in 1951.
She married Louis Molle on Sept. 15, 1951, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.
Yvonne spent much of her time with her family.
She enjoyed fishing in Ontario, winter trips to Florida, cooking and baking for her family, birthday’s, special occasions, her politics, and summers at the lake, where she could watch the birds.
Yvonne was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Louis; her children, Randy (Jyl) Molle of Madison, Wis., Gary (Beth) Molle of Niagara, Wis., Brian (Deb) Molle of Platteville, Wis., and Julie (Craig) Hopfensperger of Waterford, Wis.; five grandchildren, Mathew (Amber) Molle, Jason Molle, Megan, Kelsey and Jenna Molle; a great-grandchild, Medeline Molle, many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus Weber and Norbert Weber, both of Niagara.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate.
Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.
A memorial will be established in her memory to both the Caring House of Iron Mountain and St. Anthony’s Food Pantry.
The family is being served by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel.
