Earl Senecal
NIAGARA, Wis. — Earl F. Senecal, 78, of Cleveland St., Niagara, passed away early Saturday morning, June 16, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., son of the late James and Martha (Radziej) Senecal. He was a lifelong resident of Niagara, moving there with his family in 1925.
Upon arrival in Niagara, Earl and his family joined St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.
He married Frances “Pauline” Peterson on Nov. 19, 1942, at Anthony Catholic Church.
He had a great fondness for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Earl worked hard and took great pride in maintaining a weed free garden.
He was never too busy to help his family and friends.
Earl was very close to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandsons.
He leaves his wife, Pauline; three daughters, Lynda (Steve) Johnson of Green Bay, Wis., Sandra (Mark) Burgoyne of Cedarburg, Wis., and Patricia (Charles) Galvan of Homestead, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Senecal of Butte, Mont.; six grandchildren, Travis (Kati) Ahrens of Oakdale, Minn., Rebecca (Paul) Kleikamp of Kingsford, Marnie (Scott) Krohse of St. Charles, Minn., Tori (Matt) Chellew of Norway, Tricia Burgoyne of Madison, Wis., and Annette Burgoyne of Cedarburg, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Curran and Andrew Kleikamp; two sisters, Delores (Anthony) Joerres of South Milwaukee, Wis., and Geraldine (Robert) DuPruis of Niagara, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Randall J. Senecal, in 1986; a daughter, Earline Senecal, who died as an infant; a granddaughter, Christie Ahrens; a brother, George Senecal, and two sisters, Esther Taylor and Jean Schopp.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate.
A time of gathering and fellowship will follow in the parish hall where lunch will be provided.
Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.

Fred Tieves
WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — Fred Clemens Tieves, 65, of Armstrong Creek, Wis., died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born July 5, 1935, in Neuss, Germany, son of Clemens and Kathe (Wirtz) Tieves. He came to the U.S. in 1955, settling in Milwaukee.
On Feb. 1, 1969, he married the former Donna Carlson in Escanaba. They moved to Armstrong Creek in 1978, when they purchased The Green Shack Tavern which they operated for the last 23 years.
He was a member of the 100 Miler Snowmobile Club and the Lions Club of Laona.
He leaves his wife, Donna; his mother, Kathe of Milwaukee; two sons, Steve Glovacki of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Tom (Debbie) Glovacki of Mount Home, Idaho; a daughter, Sue (Dennis) Versecki of Neenah, Wis.; two sisters, Margot (Phil) McVey and Marianne Smith, both of Milwaukee; six grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clemens Tieves.
A time of sharing will be from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at The Green Shack in Armstrong Creek. A prayer service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Edward Nowakowski officiating.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goodman, Wis.

Joseph Kovacich
CASPIAN — Joseph Kovacich, 86, of Caspian, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
Joe was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Caspian, son of the late Anton and Katherine Kovacich. He attended Stambaugh High School and graduated in 1933.
He married the former Theresa Czapiga on July 16, 1938, at Assumption Church in Iron River.
He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Co. and retired from the Groveland Mine in 1974. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Brule Lake.
Joe was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Caspian. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Progressive Men of Caspian, was a Boy Scout leader, and was active in local politics.
He leaves his wife, Theresa Kovacich; two sons, David (Karen) Kovacich of LaSalle, lower Michigan and Joseph (Regan) Kovacich of Wausau, Wis.; three daughters, Carol (Chester) Busakowski of Caspian, Joann (Donald) Sebo of Valders, Wis. and Beth (Gary) Ross of Oscoda, lower Michigan; a brother, Rudy (Nadja) Kovacich of Santa Maria, Calif.; a sister, Cecelia (Stanley) Atanasoff of Iron River; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Silvio and Pearl Polich.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Anton, Albert, Peter, Martin and Louis.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Caspian. Rev. Otto Sartorelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Stambaugh Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Cecelia Catholic Church or the Iron County Historical Museum.

Michael Casanova
NORWAY — Michael J. Casanova, 97, of Norway, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1903, in Norway, son of the late Frank and Barbara (Morosini) Casanova.
Michael worked for Ford Motor Co. in Kingsford, the local iron mines, steel construction and then for Construction & General Laborers Union 1329 AFL-CIO of Iron Mountain.
He married the former Victoria A. Cieslak on June 22, 1929, in Vulcan. Victoria preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1984. Michael was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Norway.
He is survived by three sons, Wallace of Ft. Smith, Ariz., and Donald (Janet) and Roger (Judy), both of Norway; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Paquette of Norway; a brother-in-law, Louis VanLaere of Norway; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Kurtz, Barbara Wilson, Anna Larson and Amelia VanLaere; and three brothers, Charles, Frank Jr. and Ernest Casanova.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Miner Funeral Home of Norway. Prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Fr. Joseph Gouin will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway.
Memorials can be made to the St. Mary Church Memorial Fund.
Burial will follow in the Norway Township Cemetery.
Betty Rasmusson
SPALDING — Betty Rasmusson, 81, of Hermansville, died Tuesday morning, June 19, 2001, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers following a lengthy illness.

Ardith Pierucki
CRANDON, Wis. — Ardith Jane Pierucki, 50, of Laona died at her home Monday, June 18, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jane, as she was known to most everyone, was born Sept. 4, 1950, in Vincennes, Ind., daughter of Virgil and Mildred (Adams) Bishop. She grew up in the Antigo, Wis., area and graduated with the class of 1969.
She then moved to Milwaukee where she completed her studies at a school of cosmetology. She lived in Milwaukee for a time before moving to Channing. In 1977, she moved to Norway where she lived for about 12 years and in 1991, she moved to Laona where she had been living until her death.
Jane enjoyed many things in life, including camping and the outdoors. When she could not be outside, she enjoyed spending her time painting.
Her greatest joy in her life, however, was her family and she will be sadly missed by them.
She leaves a special friend of 12 years, Robert Bandt; two sons, Joe (fiancee, Erin Vargo) Pierucki and Jason (fiancee, Charlene Okrasinski) Pierucki; three sisters, Caroline Nonnenmacher, Lois Helms and Ane Buettner; four brothers, Bill, Todd, Rodd and Dennis Bishop; two grandchildren, Merissa Jane and Caleb Shannon Pierucki, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kent Bishop, and a sister, Phyllis Mattson.
Honoring Jane’s request, the family has chosen not to have any formal funeral services at this time.

Florence DeDecker
HAMILTON LAKES — Florence Y. DeDecker, 86, of Hamilton Lakes, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
She was born on April 5, 1915 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Dusablon) Ion.
She graduated from Lindblom High School in Chicago in 1933.
Florence married George DeDecker on June 8, 1940 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2000.
She was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan, St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Loretto Unit of the Anderson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was very active at the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center.
Florence is survived by a son, Robert A. (Amy) DeDecker of Hamilton Lakes; a daughter, Louise M. (Dale) Konkel of Clintonville, Wis.; a granddaughter, Christine “Tina” (Scott) Engelhardt of Clintonville; three grandsons, Ryan DeDecker of Green Bay, Wis., Adam Konkel of Peshtigo, Wis. and Phillip DeDecker of Hamilton Lakes; a sister-in-law, Frances Ion of Portland, Ore.; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Fredrick and Hubert Ion.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Miner Funeral Home in Norway.
Prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan with Fr. William Callari officiating.
Burial will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.

Charles Shillito
KINGSFORD — Charles “Harry” Shillito, 73, of 408 Balsam St., Kingsford died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Aug. 22, 1927 in Franklin, lower Michigan, son of the late Charles H. and Mamie (Pelto) Shillito.
Harry and his wife, Betty, lived in Royal Oak, lower Michigan for 30 years. Upon his retirement in 1992, they moved to Lake Hilbert in Armstrong Creek, Wis. and in 1997 they moved to Kingsford.
Harry was an avid baseball player. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and played in the minors for several years. He also coached little league for 17 years in Royal Oak.
He is survived by, his wife, Betty; two sons, John (Wendy) Shillito of Grand Rapids, lower Michigan and James (Debbie) Shillito of Corinth, Miss.; a daughter, Karen (Darryl) Gardener of Goodman, Wis.; six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.

Christopher Mogan
IRON MOUNTAIN — Christopher S. Mogan, 35, of Bartlett, Ill., died Wednesday, June 20, 2001.
He was born April 4, 1966, in Green Bay, Wis. He attended high school in St. Paul, Minn., Austin, Minn. and Ottumwa, Iowa and graduated from Conant High School in Schaumberg, Ill. in 1985. He was an all-star athlete in high school and received many awards in hockey.
Chris had lived in the Chicago area since 1980. He married the former Lisa Breden on June 26, 1992. He worked as a passenger train conductor for the Metra Commuter Railroad for the past 15 years.
He leaves his wife, Lisa; two children, Chad and Alexa Mogan; his father, Dennis (Jan) Mogan of Huntley, Ill.; his mother, Suzanne Mogan of Hanover Park, Ill.; a brother, Marc (Creston) Mogan of Breitung Township; two sisters, Martine (Dwayne) Burgette of Philadelphia, Pa. and Anessa Mogan of Hanover Park, Ill.; his grandmother, Marion Freeman of Iron Mountain; seven nieces and nephews, Rachel, Ryan and Ashley, Nicole, Dean, Josh and Zack. He is also survived by thousands of friends on the commuter train.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vern Freeman; grandparents, Al and Any Mogan; and his uncle, John Freeman.
Visitation will be held today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel in Roselle, Ill. and on Sunday from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.

Dorothy Faull
NORWAY — Dorothy G. Faull, 76, of Norway, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
She was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Garret, Ky., the daughter of the late John and Mary Ray.
Mrs. Faull moved to Norway in 1925. She was a bartender at Louie’s Bar for 14 years and at the Northwoods USA. She had also worked at the Kimberly Clark Tree Farm during the summers.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Norvulet Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary Post 4581.
Mrs. Faull loved being outdoors and spending time at her cottage. She enjoyed gardening and hunting.
She married Kenneth Faull in Norway and he preceded her in death in 1976.
She leaves four sons, Robert “Sam” (Wanda) of Norway, Kenneth (Sylvia) of Redding, Calif., Timothy (Sandy) of Norway and Terrance (Gretchen) of Waucedah; a daughter, Kathy (Don) Rochon of Norway; five grandson, Lee (Michelle) Faull, Jamie (Erin) Faull, Robbie (Crystal) Faull, Ronnie (Kelly) Faull, and Jason Rochon; six granddaughters, Lisa (Paul) Rochon, Michelle (Mike) Faull, Kim Faull, Tanya Faull, Mandy Faull and Corrine Faull; two step-granddaughters, Carrie and Christie Cronick; seven great-grandchildren, Megan Ball, Kori Faull, Shelly Rochon, Michael Faull, Noah Faull, Adam Faull, and Mikayla Faull; two brothers, Robert Ray of Norway and Joseph Ray of Kingsford; three sisters, Patricia Carlotto of Green Bay, Wis., Genevieve Maracini of Iron Mountain and Irene McCarthy of Iron Mountain; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Ray of Milwaukee, Mary Jane Ray of Norway and Marge Marchetti of Norway; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Angie Rochon.

Rodney Vassar
GAASTRA — Rodney W. Vassar, 58, of 28 N. Fifth St., Gaastra, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1942, in Alvin, Wis., son of Myrtle (Hall) and the late Foster Vassar. He attended the Alvin and Stambaugh public schools.
Rodney first worked in the area woods and for 10 years had been employed by Vassar Roofing. He was later employed as a custodian at the Lac Vieux Desert Casino for seven years.
On Dec. 2, 1967, he married the former Susan Campbell and the couple made their home in Gaastra.
Rodney was a loving grandfather, who enjoyed fishing and feeding wildlife in his yard. He also enjoyed his daughter’s three dogs, Nikki, Maggie and Molly.
He leaves his wife, Susan; three daughters, Crystal (Stephen) Mazurek of Iron River, Rachael (Valo) Zarate-Sanchez of Gaastra, and Rebecca (Matthew) Jacks of Gaastra; his mother, Myrtle Vassar of Iron River; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Eleanor Campbell of Gaastra; two brothers, Steven (Cindy) Vassar of Iron River and Ward Vassar of Iron River; two sisters, Winifred Vassar of Amasa and Penelope (Dale) Petts of Alamagardo, N.M.; four grandchildren, Stephen and Sydnie Mazurek of Iron River and Marissa and Alexis Jacks of Gaastra; a special friend, Douglas “Dougie Doo” Lojda of Iron River; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alfred Sundin
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Alfred V. Sundin, 73, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Kingsford. He married his wife, Elaine on Sept. 2, 1950. He lived in Neenah, Wis. for 22 years, moved to Texas in 1972 and then moved to Arizona in 1979.
Alfred was a resident of Arizona for 22 years. He was a motel manager for E-Z 8 Motel in Las Vegas, Nev. for 20 years and LHC for 20 years.
He served as a Merchant Marine from 1945 to 1948. Alfred was also a wood pattern maker.
He leaves his wife, Elaine M. Sundin of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two sons, Dan Sundin of Houston, Texas and Roger Sundin of Temple, Texas; three daughters, Gale Stich of Mesa, Ariz., Jean Ellis of Katy, Texas and Pauline Pitman of Moorpark, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic church. Fr. Jorge Gonzales officiated.

Steve Peronto
IRON MOUNTAIN — Steve A. Peronto, 11 month-old, went to sleep peacefully with the Lord on Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Steve was born July 6, 2000, in Iron Mountain. Although he was only around for a short time, he was a fun-loving child who made everyone happy.
He will be deeply missed by his mother, Shannon Peronto of Hardwood; his grandparents, Kurt and Dawn Peronto of Hardwood; great-grandparents, Kenneth and Leatrice Peronto of Hardwood and Roger Cootware of Felch; one uncle, Kris Peronto of Hardwood; three great-uncles, Roger (Ann) Cootware of Felch, Robert (Julie) Cootware of Iron Mountain and James (Bonnie) Peronto of Fond du Lac, Wis.; and many cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his grandma, Mary Olson of Norway.

Charles Baldridge
FLORENCE, Wis. — Charles J. Baldridge, 57, of Florence, Wis., lost his battle with cancer, Monday, June 25, 2001, at Florence Villa Nursing Home in Florence.
He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Chicago, son of the late Henry and Rosalie (Wrzaszczak) Baldridge.
An early retirement as a sergeant with the New Berlin, Wis., Police Department enabled him and his wife to make Florence their home. Chuck was a supervisor on the Fern Town Board and a past president of the Northwoods Stamp Club.
His energetic love for and his desire to contribute to the Florence area was contagious.
He leaves his wife, Jan; a son, Jim; a granddaughter, Taylor; his twin brother, Bob (Marge); a niece and nephew; cousins and an uncle.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Gladys Gustafson
CRYSTAL FALLS — Gladys V. Gustafson, 87, of 102 Ruby St., Amasa, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Iron County General Hospital in Iron River.
Gladys was born April 9, 1914, in Amasa, daughter of the late Axel and Hilma (Oman) West. Her parents settled here coming from Sidby, Finland in 1880.
Gladys grew up in Amasa and attended Balsalm School. She married Charles Gustafson on Oct. 8, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1971.
She lived in Chicago for 14 years, returning to Amasa in 1948. Gladys worked as a bartender and a waitress for many places in the area.
Gladys was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. She loved her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening.
She leaves two sons, Charles (Rita) Gustafson of Duluth, Minn. and Jeffery Gustafson of Amasa; two granddaughters, Christina and Karissa Gustafson; one niece, Lorraine Duffy of Florida; and two nephews, Larry (Shelby) Harrington of Crystal Falls and Donald Johnson of Florida.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert West and two sisters, Yarda West Harrington and Ellen West Harrington.
Visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.

Norma Lejeune
IRON MOUNTAIN — Norma G. Lejeune, 86, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, March 4, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Norma was born April 17, 1914, in Republic and had been a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School with the Class of 1932.
She married Alfred A. Lejeune on May 25, 1963, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1995.
Norma worked as the manager of the Montgomery Wards catalog department. She loved her flowers and gardening.
She leaves two daughters, Joan (Richard) Demers of Memphis, Tenn. and Barbara A. (Robert) Tarsi of Port Huron, lower Michigan; two sisters, Adelaide Sandercock of Iron Mountain and Elaine Reynolds of California; four grandchildren, Michael Massie, Kevin Massie, Ann White and Tina (Michael) Easton; three great-grandsons, Eric Easton, David White and Alex Easton; four nieces; and two nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

IRON RIVER — Earl Luck, a long time resident of Iron River died June 15, 2001.
He lived a good life.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29 at First Presbyterian Church in Iron River in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marquette Rehab Center.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Robert M. Lorbecki, 77, of Iron River died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac, Wis.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is in charge of arrangements.
Bernice Cerasoli
IRON MOUNTAIN — Bernice A. Cerasoli, 88, of Kingsford died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, Wis.
Bernice was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Stevens Point, Wis., daughter of the late Leo and Helen (Petta) Zoromski. She had been a resident of the area for most of her life.
She married Faust Cerasoli on June 18, 1932, in Stephenson. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Bernice worked at J C Penney Co. in Kingsford for 26 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford and the Italian Women’s Club.
Bernice enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, she liked her plants, and taking care of her house.
She leaves her son, Dr. Alphonse “Duane” (Donna) Cerasoli of Crystal Falls; two sisters, Mary Palmer of Green Bay, Wis., and Florence Larson of Milwaukee, Wis.; three grandchildren, Christopher (Jill) Cerasoli, Mark Cerasoli and Michael Cerasoli, all of the Chicago area; two great-grandchildren, Jade Marie Cerasoli and Kimberly Cerasoli, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be from 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
