Serafine Pancheri
IRON MOUNTAIN — Serafine “Ser” Pancheri, 73, of 1503 S. Grant St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Ser was born July 19, 1927, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Serafine and Santina (Feira) Pancheri. He had been a resident of the area all of his life. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1946.
He graduated from the University of Michigan, receiving his master’s degree.
Ser was a school teacher at Kingsford High School for many years. He also worked for Peninsula Beverage as a bookkeeper, part-time time when he was teaching and full-time after his retirement from the school.
He was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, the Serra Club, the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (M.A.R.S.P.) and Phi Delta Kappa. He volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul and at the Perpetual Chapel.
Ser was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. He also loved to read and enjoyed traveling.
He leaves a brother, John (Shirley) Pancheri of Iron Mountain; a sister, Charlotte (Thomas) Gordon of Iron Mountain, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Louis Pancheri, and four sisters, Catherine Rahr, Esther Schintgen, Margaret Jolette and Theresa Pancheri.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Shaun Erno will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Earl Melstrom
IRON RIVER — A memorial service for Earl Melstrom, 86, of Iron River who passed away on Sept. 26, 2000, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Langenberg Funeral Home-Iron River Chapel.
Rev. Clayton Parcels, formerly pastor of the First Lutheran Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
The Langenberg Funeral Home-Iron River Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Jean Sparapani
IRON MOUNTAIN — Jean V. Sparapani, 87, of W-8399 Old Carney Lake Road, Breitung Township, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
Jean was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Billings (Slope), N.D., daughter of the late Paul Alvin and Anna (Johnsrud) Peterson.
She lived in North Dakota until the age of 4 at which time she moved to Monfort, Wis. At the age of 9 she moved to Kingsford where she attended the Roosevelt School.
Jean married Victor Sparapani on March 17, 1934, in Kingsford. He preceded her in death in 1956.
She worked at the Memorial Hospital as a cook and nurses aid for many years. Jean then went on to work for Hyland Nursing Home helping them start up their first on-site kitchen. She worked at Hyland for 17 years.
Jean was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain and the “Holy Comforters,” a quilting group at the church. She also taught Sunday School for many years.
She loved her family dearly especially cooking and baking for them.
Jean enjoyed traveling and watching the wildlife in her yard, and was a great neighbor to all.
She leaves two sons, Jerome (Carol) Sparapani of Crystal Falls and Richard “Rick” (Barbara) Sparapani of Breitung Township; three sisters, LeeAnn (Glenn) Goodman of Appleton, Wis., Darleen (Joel) Smith of Norway, and Christine “Cookie” (James) Beauchamp Jr. of Quinnesec; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Peterson, and three sisters, Carol Sparapani, Fran Johnson and Christine “Toots” Gasbarro.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Pastor John Voelker will officiate.
Burial will be in Breitung Township Cemetery.
The family is being served by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Roger Conklin
NIAGARA, Wis. — Roger G. Conklin, 65, of W7428 County Road Z, Pembine, Wis., died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Roger was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Roger and Elmie (Smolander) Conklin. Roger grew up in Pembine and graduated from Pembine High School in 1954.
He married the former Judith Mutz on Sept. 29, 1956, in Milwaukee. Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962.
Roger owned and operated the Conklin Standard Station in Pembine from 1963 until 1981. He then started working for David McTrusty Logging and was employed there until 1998.
He loved the outdoors and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Roger survived by his wife, Judith; two sons, Roger Conklin III of Pembine, Wis. and Bryan Conklin of Green Bay, Wis.; one daughters, Vicki (Troye) Hering of Florence, Wis.; one sister, Darlene (Richard) Gehling of Pembine; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Hering; two brothers-in-law, Edward (Joan) Wucherer of Baraboo, Wis.; and Jim (Virginia) Mutz of Manchester, Mass.
Private family visitation and funeral services were held at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel.

Luella Coen
ESCANABA — Luella F. Coen, 94, of 618 S. 9th St., Escanaba, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, June 28, 2001.
Luella was born Oct. 18, 1906, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late William and Mary Jane (Vincent) Hicks. She attended Iron Mountain schools and had lived in the Escanaba area for the past 50 years.
The former Luella Frances Hicks married Thomas Dixon Coen in 1930 in Sault Ste. Marie. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1987.
She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba.
She leaves a daughter, Shirley Beaudry of Escanaba; a granddaughter, Sherry (Mark) Larche of Manistique; a grandson, Greg Beaudry of Livonia, lower Michigan; two great-granddaughters, Toni and Machelle Larche of Manistique; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Central time) at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home chapel at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Boo Lange officiating. A lunch will follow the funeral services at the Central United Methodist Church Hall.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Elizabeth Flessati
NORWAY — Elizabeth “Betty” Flessati, 87, of Norway, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
She was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Vulcan, the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Retzior) Smokovitz.
Betty married Edwin Flessati on June 29, 1946, at St. Barbara Church in Vulcan.
She worked as a dental technician for Dr. Foster in Norway for many years and then for Dr. Carlson in Norway. She was also employed at Vertin’s Department Store in Norway.
Betty was a member of St. Mary Church in Norway, the Daughters of Isabella at St. Mary Church, the Cloverland Chapter 23 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Auxiliary and the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin; three brothers, Anton (Irene), Walter (Evelyn) and Stanley (Cleo) Smokovitz all of the Detroit area; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Smokovitz of Norway; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Theodore, Joseph, Paul and Mike Smokovitz and five sisters, Victoria Horigan, Katherine Smokovitz, Ella Weigle, Agnes Smokovitz and Jerry Bridges.
Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Miner Funeral Home in Norway. Parish prayers will be recited today at 7 p.m. and also on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Miner Funeral Home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church in Norway. Fr. Mark McQuesten officiating. Burial will follow in Norway Township Cemetery.

Robert Bafile
IRON MOUNTAIN — Robert Bafile, 75, of 407 Blaine St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, July 1, 2001.
He was born July 12, 1925, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Hugo and Nina (Spigarelli) Bafile. Bob was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. He married Yvonne Bruette on Dec. 27, 1958, at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. He has worked for the AFL-CIO Laborer’s Union for many years, retiring in 1982.
Bob loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed his camp. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, Yvonne; three sons, Robert (Jeannette) Bafile, Richard Bafile, and Paul Joseph (Anna) Bafile, all of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Patricia Brueck of Lancaster, S.C. and Nina (P.J.) Portman of Iron Mountain; a brother, Ronald Bafile of Dahlonega, Ga.; four sisters, Corrine (Duaine) Munn of Kingsford, Janet Burns of Iron Mountain, Matilda Rossato of Vulcan and Evelyn Charzn of Alpina, lower Michigan; and eight grandchildren, Mark and Jennifer, Cassandra and Adriana, Brandi and Scott and Joshua and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Bafile and Sophia Bafile.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Knights of Columbus will retired the rosary at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Randy Munn, Vince and John Fiorucci, Dean Santini, Don Tramontin, Bill Ozzello, David Burns and Brian Fortier.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus pavilion fireplace fund.

Alice Lindstrom
IRON MOUNTAIN — Alice M. Lindstrom, 97, formerly of Aurora, Wis., and most recently of Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis., passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2001.
Alice was born March 29, 1904, in Niagara. She was the eighth of 12 children born to Leona and Joseph Provencher.
She married Elmer Lindstrom on June 30, 1923, in Niagara and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1969.
Alice and Elmer spent most of their married life working in the Luke and Carlson Logging Camps. Alice was considered one of the best cooks. She was so delighted when the woodsmen wanted 2-3 pieces of her pie.
Her children and their spouses will always remember every Sunday. They went to mom’s for her famous chicken dinner. Many of her grandchildren had the privilege of having Grandma’s chicken too. She will be so missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Alice is survived by a daughter, Carol “Sissy” (Walter) Thomson of Lena, Wis.; two sons, Warden “Sonny” (Margaret) Lindstrom and Howard “Blicky” (Priscilla) Lindstrom, both of Aurora; two sisters, Eva Melin of Maryhill Manor and Delia Brown of Sturgeon Bay; a brother, Edward Provencher of Niagara, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Arlene (Forest) Baylor; a great-granddaughter, Kelly Thomson; and eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Deacon Don Christy will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.

Elsie Virta
KINGSFORD — Elsie E. Virta, 71, of Kingsford, formerly of Bergland, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Elsie was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Franklin, lower Michigan, daughter of the late Andrew and Impi (Salo) Seppi. She grew up in Watton and graduated from L’Anse High School. She also graduated from Northern Michigan University majoring in elementary education.
Elsie married Wayne Virta on July 5, 1952, in Ishpeming. She taught in White Pine, Covington and Bergland, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting.
She leaves her husband, Wayne of Kingsford; two sons, Richard (Marilyn) Virta of Quinnesec and Raymond (Tina) Virta of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Sandra (Bert) Beals of Ironwood; one brother, Russell Seppi of Anchorage, Alaska; and five grandchildren, Diana Virta, Karen Virta, Olivia Virta, Bert Beals and Adam Beals.
Elsie was preceded in death by two infant sisters, Gertrude and Florence.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Celebrant Robert Fuse will officiate. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery.

William LaVallie
MARQUETTE — William LaVallie, 62, of 145 Lakewood Lane, Harvey, died peacefully at home Monday morning, July 2, 2001, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. LaVallie was born Jan. 16, 1939, in Chicago, Ill. In 1956, he graduated from Holy Name High School in Escanaba and from Northland College of Ashland, Wis. in 1960 with a degree in business.
On Sept. 17, 1960, he married the former Carol J. Lancour at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba.
In 1968, Bill, Carol and their children moved to Marquette and opened up the Burger Chef restaurant along with his partner and brother-in-law, Harry Krebs. Together they formed K&L Enterprises Inc., of which Bill served as president. As the business began to grow, they opened eight more restaurants across the Upper Peninsula, bringing in Bill’s brother, Terry as a third partner. In 1983, the Hardee Corp. purchased the name of Burger Chef.
In 1985, the corporation opened up the first Subway restaurant in the Upper Peninsula. They expanded that chain as well, adding their 13th Subway restaurant by 1998. K&L Enterprises at one time employed 500 people.
In 1990, K&L Enterprises received the Business of the Year Award from the Marquette Ambassadors. Bill and his partners always believed in giving back to the community, especially when it involved children.
Bill was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette, the Marquette Noon Kiwanis Club, the Kiwanis High School Key Club and the Marquette Golf & Country Club. He previously served on the board of directors of the First of America BAnk, the Shiras Institute Board, Bay Cliff Health Camp board and finance committee and was also an active participant in the Jesus Video Project, the Catholic Keryx Retreat at the Marquette Branch Prison as well as numerous other community activities.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and devoted friend and will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol; three children, Lisa (Brian) Cook of Glencoe, Ill., Dean (Alisa Lane) LaVallie of Marquette and Ann (Christian) Reitter of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two grandchildren, Ethan LaVallie and Wilson Cook; his mother, Evelyn LaVallie of Escanaba; two sisters, Sandy (Harry) Krebs and Bonnie Jacques, both of Escanaba; two brothers, Terry (Jeanine) LaVallie of Iron Mountain and Dan (Ginny) LaVallie of Roselle, Ill.; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. LaVallie Sr. on Feb. 16, 1996 and a nephews, Paul Jacques.
Bill didn’t have hobbies. His passion for camp and the Bolivia Project, many sports, his great sense of humor, his love for people, is what made him unique. He touched and enriched many lives in his daily encounters, radiating a sense of brotherhood and happiness to everyone. He was a father figure to many.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Central time) at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette. A parish prayer service will be recited at 7 p.m.
Visitation will also be held Friday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick and Rev. Msgr. Timothy Desrochers will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba.
Mr. LaVallie’s escorts will be Chris, Dan, Brad, Chad and Ryan LaVallie, John and Mark Jacques, John Beck and Rick Holmes.

KINGSFORD — Marvin J. Vigo Jr., 57, of 113 Maple St., Kingsford, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at his home.
Marvin was born July 7, 1943, in Iron Mountain and was a 1961 graduate of Kingsford High School.
He worked at Kingsford Broach and Tool for 20 years and for OCA Broach and Tool for 11 years.
He married the former Janice Bolander on April 25, 1981, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Marvin loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his camp in Covington. He also enjoyed playing and singing with his guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; his mother and father, Joyce and Marvin Vigo Sr. of Kingsford; four daughters, Tina (Dan) Moyer of Quinnesec; Lisa (Bill) Cody of Norway, Julee (Tom) Tauscheck of Iron Mountain and Amanda (Greg Maynard) Vigo of Kingsford; three sisters, Doreen (Raymond) Schultz of Niagara, Wis., Donna (Carl) Plonke of Niagara, Wis. and Eva Vigo of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Danny Moyer, Kristina, Stephanie and David Cody, Cole Vigo, and Dustin and Dakota Tauscheck; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frances and Jim Ouradnik of Kingsford; two brothers-in-law, David (Ann) Bolander of Kingsford and Mark (LuAnne) Bolander of Edgewater, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard Gillespie
ESCANABA — Leonard Gillespie, 72, of 57914 County Road 426, Northland, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Milwaukee.
He was born May 14, 1929, in Escanaba, son of William and Nancy (Delph) Gillespie. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he worked at the Niagara Paper Co. in Niagara, Wis.
He married the former Geraldine Nault in 1946 and he preceded him in death in 1951.
In 1952, he reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served until his retirement in 1971. He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War.
He married the former Judy Henry on Sept. 4, 1953.
Mr. Gillespie was a member of the Norway Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; four daughters, Sharyl Gillespie Nault DeVet of Iron Mountain, Lynn (Jim) Maul of Washington, Nancy Gillespie of California and Vicki (William) Struble of Battle Creek, lower Michigan; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, William Gillespie of Crystal Falls; a sister, Marie (Charles) Gage of California; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Glen Allen Gillespie; two sisters, Clara Heller and Virginia Baravetto; and three brothers, Vernon “Bud” Gillespie, George Gillespie and David Gillespie.
Private family visitation will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Central time) at the Riverside Cemetery in Northland. Rev. Dale Ecklid will officiate. Military rites will follow the funeral services and will be conducted by the Norway Lake VFW. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Northland.
A lunch will be served at the Wells Township Hall following the funeral service.

Albert Stroka
CRYSTAL FALLS — Albert Stroka, 84, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2001, in San Diego, Calif.
He was born March 22, 1917, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John and Olga Stroka. He attended the Crystal Falls schools and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. at an early age. He was stationed in various places in Illinois.
He enlisted in the Navy Seabees and served in the Pacific area building air bases. One of the air fields Al worked on was on Tinnian Island where the Enola Gay used to drop the A-Bomb on Japan.
After the war, he returned to Chicago where he resumed his career in the construction industry as a concrete contractor.
Upon his retirement, he spend summers in Crystal Falls and had many friends in the area. he was an avid golfer and had planned to be here this year for the Bass Festival.
Albert was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 50th Naval Seabees Alumni and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Eliott of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Chester of Chicago; three sons, Albert Jr. (Susan) of Western Springs, Ill., Jeffery (Tressa) of Chicago and Charles of Harwood Heights, Ill.; two daughters, Phyllis (Phillip) Cypcar of Park Ridge, Ill. and Gerry of Harwood Heights, Ill.; a special friend, Nadine of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Philomena in 1980; two brothers, Joe and Jon; and his stepfather, Joseph Tomczak.

Stanley Wesolowski
IRON MOUNTAIN — Stanley Wesolowski, 53, of Iron Mountain, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his home.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Isabelle M. Carlson
ESCANABA — Isabelle “Belle” M. Carlson, 85, of 1225 Woodward Ave., Kingsford, formerly of Escanaba, died early Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the ManorCare Nursing Home in Kingsford.
The former Isabelle M. Vadnais was born on April 12, 1916, in Republic, the daughter of Dennis and Matilda (Laforias) Vadnais. She moved to Escanaba around the age of 15 and resided there until moving to Iron Mountain in 1998. She graduated from high school and attended Commercial College in Escanaba.
On Oct. 5, 1935, she married Melvin G. Carlson in Escanaba. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Isabelle worked at the Carnegie Library for more than 10 years, retiring around the age of 60.
Mrs. Carlson was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, playing bridge, crossword puzzles and walking.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Marilyn (Carlson) Dyer, Iron Mountain; two grandsons, David Drew Dyer, Chicago, Ill. and Daniel (Denise) Dyer; a sister-in-law, Viola Jaeger, Milwaukee, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Drew J. Dyer; five sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call at the Allo Funeral Home on Friday between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Eastern time.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Escanaba with the Rev. Michael Steber officiating.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Clifford Turcotte
IRON RIVER — Clifford L. Turcotte, 80, of 417 Holly St., Iron River, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Iron County General Hospital in Iron River.
He was born March 27, 1921, in Pentoga, son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Belongie) Turcotte. He was a lifelong resident and attended the Pentoga and Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1938.
Mr. Turcotte was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving during World War II.
He married the former Aurelia F. Hodkiewicz on Nov. 8, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gaastra. The couple made their home in Stambaugh. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1991 and were to celebrate 60 years of marriage in November.
Mr. Turcotte was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Co. for many years at the Wauscea and Homer Wauscea mines, retiring in 1969.
He was very active in local governments and served on the Iron County Board of Commissioners for four years and chairman for three years; the city of Stambaugh Commission for nine years and also served on the Western Economic District for 28 years.
He was active in the city of Stambaugh Commission on Aging and served on the UPCAP Advisory Board. He worked on the Community Action Board for Dickinson and Iron counties, which is now known as Community Services for Dickinson and Iron counties.
Mr. Turcotte was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the Iron River Elks Lodge 1671, and the American Legion Reino Post 21 of Stambaugh.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert and two sisters, Irene Goodhall and Josephine Turcotte.
He leaves his wife, Aurelia; a son, William (Betty) Turcotte of Crystal Falls; two daughters, Susan (Russell) Brittain of Gladstone and Donna Rae (Larry) Mattioli of Little Chute, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Jane Turcotte of LaGrande, Ore.; a brother, Chester (Margaret) Turcotte of Iron River; a sister, Jeanette Miresse of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren, Lori Morningstar, Julie Haiden, Matthew Turcotte, and Stacie and Michael Mattioli; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A liturgical prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans Council will accord military rites. Burial will be in the Stambaugh Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Mattioli, James, Thomas, Jeff and Patrick Goodhall, and Randy Turcotte.
The Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River is in charge of arrangements.

Gail Henrickson
CRYSTAL FALLS — Gail C. Hendrickson, 56, of 122 North Runkle Shore Road, Crystal Falls Township, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at her home.
Gail was born Oct. 5, 1944, in Crystal Falls, daughter of Charles and Angeline (Nacoli) Fredrickson.
Gail grew up in Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School. Following graduation, she went to Green Bay, Wis. and earned a degree in cosmetology.
She married John Hendrickson on Feb. 12, 1965, in Oak Creek, Wis. They lived in Racine, Wis. until July 4, 2000, at which time they moved to Crystal Falls.
While in Racine, Gail worked many years as a secretary for the Racine Unified School District.
Gail was in the process of joining Guardian Angels Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking for everyone and loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Sally (Michael) Hedtke of Sturtevant,Wis. and Diane (Robert) Dorow of Waterford, Wis.; her mother, Angeline Gale of Crystal Manor; a brother, Don Fredrickson of Crystal Falls; two sisters, Larren (Frank) Piechota of Green Bay, Wis. and Sally (Lee) Nylund of Crystal Falls; three grandchildren, Abigail Dorow, Erika Dorow and Lee Hedtke; many nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Dorothy (John) Pintar of Oak Creek, Wis.; and two brothers-in-law, Arthur (Mavourdeen) Hendrickson of Slinger, Wis. and Harold (Jane) Hendrickson of Crystal Falls.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Hendrickson.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Deacon Bernie Kut will officiate.
The family is being served by the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.

Stanley Wesolowski Jr.
IRON MOUNTAIN — Stanley Wesolowski Jr., 53, of 710 S. Hemlock St., Iron Mountain, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his home.
Stanley was born Sept. 1, 1947, in Cassel, Wis., son of the late Stanley and Rose (Filtzkowski) Wesolowski Sr. He graduated from Newman High School in 1965.
Stanley served his country as part of the United States Air Force from 1965 until 1969 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He started his working career with Weyerhaeuser Paper, where he worked until 1989. He then joined International Paper, where he worked until last Monday.
He married the former Carol Sullivan on Oct. 18, 1969, in Wausau, Wis.
Stanley enjoyed golfing with his friends, gardening in his yard, traveling to new places, and cooking for enjoyment. He was an avid fan of football and enjoyed having fun with his family and friends. He was an active member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. His family and friends will sadly miss him.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; a son, Scott Wesolowski of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Stacy (Mark) Holdread of Baltimore, Md. and Stephanie Wesolowski of Iron Mountain; his mother-in-law, Thelma Sullivan of Wausau, Wis.; two brothers, Thomas (Merceeda) Wesolowski of Edgar, Wis. and John (Pat) Wesolowski of Baraboo, Wis.; two sisters, Eleanor (Jake) Dahm of Wausau, Wis. and Rosemary (Don) VerBrugge of Fair Field Glade, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Wesolowski of West Bend, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Wesolowski.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Stanley will be laid to rest at Restlawn Cemetery in Wausau, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent in Stanley’s name to the Caring House.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
