Edward Frickelton
IRON MOUNTAIN — Edward G. Frickelton, 54, of Livonia, lower Michigan, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, lower Michigan.
Mr. Frickelton was born July 16, 1947, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Gerald and Marion (LaCost) Frickelton.
He received his bachelor of arts degree in English/philosophy and went on to earn a master’s degree in theology in personality sciences. He also received a master’s degree from Loyola University in counseling and psychology.
Mr. Frickelton served as a diocesan priest for the Diocese of Madison, Wis. from 1973-1985. He worked for various companies including being the human resource manager for CNA Insurance in Chicago and director of personnel for Meadowbrook Insurance in Southfield, lower Michigan. Most recently, he was the director of human resources for an insurance company in Farmington Hills, lower Michigan.
He was a member of the HR Society for Human Resource Management and a certified employee benefit specialist.
He is survived by a sister, Karen (Jay) Thekan of Iron Mountain; a brother, Tim (Margit) Frickelton of Poynette, Wis.; two nieces, KJ and Molly Thekan and two nephews, Joseph and Lucas Frickelton; special friends, David Ottoman, Rev. Robert Massey and Bob Bouck; and his dog, Sadie.
Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Adelaide Piche
NIAGARA, Wis. — Adelaide N. Piche, 84, of 132 Madison Ave., Niagara, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Feb. 14, 1917, daughter of the late Maurice and Barbara (Gaber) Norman.
Adelaide attended Niagara schools and graduated from Niagara High School on June 1, 1934. She started working on Oct. 11, 1937, for the Niagara Paper Mill as an administrative assistant to the plant manager for Kimberly-Clark Corp. and then its successor, Pentair Inc. in April 1972.
Adelaide married Elmer Piche on Nov. 19, 1941, in Niagara. Elmer was also employed at the Niagara Paper Mill. He was hired on Oct. 11, 1937, and worked as a shift supervisor.
They both retired from the mill in 1977, Elmer on May 6 and Adelaide on July 1.
Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1981.
Adelaide was a competitive bowler in the Niagara Women’s League. She also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by an aunt, Veronica Dombroski of Green Bay, Wis.; and five cousins, Mark Dombroski of Adrian, lower Michigan, Leon Dombrowski of Ripon, Wis., Joe Gaber of Norfolk, Va., Mary Gaber of Chesapeake, Va. and Michael Gaber of Phoenix, Ariz.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara. St. Anthony’s Council of Catholic Women will offer prayers at the church.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Niagara Cemetery.

Donald Erickson
CRYSTAL FALLS — Donald A. Erickson, 87, of 1506 Highway U.S. 2, Crystal Falls, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
He was born May 14, 1914, in Ishpeming, son of the late Elmer and Hilma Erickson. He moved to Waukegan, Ill., at the age of 2, where he grew up and attended school. He would spend the summer months in Commonwealth, Wis., at his aunt’s farm.
Donald worked for six years at the Great Lakes Naval Base as a welder and was then employed for 32 years with the U.S. Steel Co. in Waukegan, until his retirement.
He married the former Rachel Hendrickson and she preceded him in death. He then married the former Winifred “Jean” Kilford Noyes in 1971, and moved to Crystal Falls in 1981.
Donald and his wife, Jean, worked for several years as cooks at the Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Falls.
Donald was also preceded in death by a brother, Ero Erickson.
He leaves his wife, Winifred “Jean;” two sons, Donald E. Erickson of Park City, Ill., and James Paul Erickson of Iowa City, Iowa; three stepsons, John (Linda) Noyes of Wisconsin, George (Cindy) Noyes of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Patrick Noyes of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Eva Erickson of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Michael and Kara; seven stepgrandchildren, Kyle, Chelsey, John, Cheryl, Jean Ann, Christopher, and Julie; four great-grandchildren, Richard, Kate, Sha, and Breann, and several nephews.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Falls.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Rev. Ray Perry will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Iron County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or to Alzheimer’s Research.

Lila DeGroot
COMMONWEALTH, Wis. — Lila E. DeGroot, 89, former resident of White Birch Village, Breitung Township, died Sept. 6, 2001, at Rainbow Cottage Rest Home in Tacoma, Wash.
Lila Elaine Leppanen was born June 12, 1912, in Commonwealth, Wis., daughter of the late Hannah (Kangas) and Jack T. Leppanen, an immigrant of Jalasjarvi, Finland. She was raised on a farm with her siblings and attended the Pershing School.
She married Adrian DeGroot on Oct. 13, 1929, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1998, after their 67th wedding anniversary. They lived in Commonwealth, then lower Michigan and in the Seattle, Wash., area.
Lila assisted Adrian as an interior decorator for the numerous homes he built to sell. She also worked as a nursing assistant.
They enjoyed many sight-seeing trips together.
She was a member of First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain and the Finnish American Raja Ryhma Club.
Lila enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and special Wednesday outings and going to church with her sisters.
She especially loved her children and grandchildren, and all children and always made them realize how special they were. She loved to laugh and was an uplifting person to be with.
Lila also enjoyed reading and was an excellent baker and homemaker.
She had spent the last three years in Tacoma, Wash. She had enjoyed the love and care of her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Adrian Rolland (Virginia) DeGroot of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Erma (Richard) Roteman of Clarkston, lower Michigan, and Jeannette (Roy) Fredrickson of Kingsford; a sister-in-law, Joyce Soderberg; her daughters-in-law, Allison, Virginia and Judy; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Allen Lee DeGroot; a granddaughter, Lori DeGroot; two sisters, Bernice Krans and Irene Fayas; two brothers, Vern (Delores) Leppanen and Waino (Joyce) Leppanen; a sister-in-law, Delores (Vern) Leppanen, and three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Anderson, Edward Krans and George Fayas.
Memorial services were held in Tacoma.
Private graveside services will be held at Commonwealth Cemetery.
Monica Dougoveto
IRON MOUNTAIN — Monica Dougoveto, 87, of 800 Hamilton Ave., Kingsford, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at her home.
She was born June 11, 1914, in Wausaukee, Wis., eldest daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Benish) Payant. She graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1931 and from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn., in 1935, with a degree in education.
Monica began her teaching career in 1935 and taught English and math at Garden Village in Quinnesec and Kingsford Junior High School.
After raising her family, she resumed teaching at Breitung Township Schools. She retired in 1979 after 22 years of service.
She married Walter P. Dougoveto of Cedar River in 1940 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Wausaukee. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Monica was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. She also belonged to the Third Order of the Carmelite Sisters of Iron Mountain, the Daughters of Isabella and Dickinson County Right to Life. She was also a member of the Dickinson Area Ultreya Community, the EMBA Auxiliary of the Wisconsin-Michigan Power Company, Retired Teachers Association and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.
She was a eucharistic minister and an hourly coordinator for the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.
She leaves five children, Dr. John (Sharon) Dougoveto of Iron Mountain, Mary (John) Calo of Kingsford, Ann (Thomas) Martin of Iron Mountain, Luverna (Bernard) Menghini of Iron Mountain and Therese (Thomas) Gross of Chilton, Wis.; 28 grandchildren, Walter Dougoveto of Baltimore, Md., Andrea, Angela, Maria and Anna Dougoveto of Ann Arbor, Joseph Dougoveto of Steubenville, Ohio, Celeste (Nick) Malone, Cecilia (Frank) Smith III., Monica (Will) Shampo and Anthony (Cathy) Calo, all of Iron Mountain, John (Elizabeth) Calo of Greenville, lower Michigan, Jason (Michelle) Roberts of Royal Oak, lower Michigan, Nikole (Peter) Drever of Forest Park, Ill., Jessica Roberts of Big Rapids, lower Michigan, Nathan (Michelle) Roberts of Irving, Texas, Paul (Melissa) Menghini and Ann (Patrick) Brown of Iron Mountain, Luverna Menghini of Portland, Ore., Therese Menghini of Denver, Colo., Bernadette Menghini of Steubenville, Ohio, and Michael Menghini of Iron Mountain, Monica Gross of Beaver Dam, Wis., Noelle Gross and Marya Gross, both of Steubenville, Ohio, and Josephine, Angeline, Ruby and Zygmunt Gross, all of Chilton; 22 great-grandchildren, Frankie, Gus, Sophie, Charlie and JonPaul Smith, Maxwell, Hannah and Molly Malone, Jason, Julia and Sarah Calo, Zoe, Willa, Maia and John Francis Shampo, Sam and Emma Drever, Alexandra Roberts, Michael Menghini, Katherine and Elizabeth Brown, and her newest grandchild, Kolbe John Roberts, born last week.
She is also survived five sisters, Luverna (Larry) Dloski of New Baltimore, lower Michigan, Marianne (Glenn) Hamilton of Marinette, Faith (Ray) Berg of Green Bay, Wis., Joyce (Gene) Bowman of Indianapolis, and Theresa (Les) Klauck of Kiel, Wis.; a brother, John (Sue) of Milwaukee; three sisters-in-law, Ailsa Payant of Wausaukee, Kathy Payant of Antigo, Wis., and Mary Dougoveto of Cedar River, Menominee County, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vital “Bud” Payant of Wausaukee and Dr. Charles Payant of Antigo, Wis., and a great-granddaughter, Grace Shampo.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. and the Daughters of Isabella will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Dan Zaloga will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Jeannette Miller
IRON MOUNTAIN — Jeannette S. Miller, 71, of 427 East A St., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at her home.
She was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Llywelyn and Julia (Serena) Grenfell. She had been a resident of Iron Mountain her entire life.
Jeannette married Norman L. Miller on Feb. 27, 1953, in Iron Mountain.
She loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping with friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling and gardening, and enjoyed her luncheons with her girlfriends.
Jeannette loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, she will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Norman; a son, Kim (Heidi) Miller of Kingsford; a daughter, Norma (Barry) Lindstrom of Kingsford; three brothers, Bud (Mia) Grenfell of Kingsford, Tom (Kay) Grenfell of East Kingsford and Dave (Terry) Grenfell of Kingsford; four grandchildren, Shane Lindstrom of North Carolina, Kerry Lindstrom of Ohio, and Nicholas and Lacie Miller of Kingsford.
She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Kathleen Grenfell.

Audrey Korkiamaki
CRYSTAL FALLS — Audrey Korkiamaki, 75, of 102 Fourth St., Alpha, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
She was born March 5, 1926, in Calderwood, Mich., daughter of the late Herman and Clara (Verbunker) Iverson. She attended school in Channing.
Audrey married Waino Korkiamaki on July 28, 1945, in Crystal Falls. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
After being married they resided in Mansfield Township until 1992, when they moved to Alpha.
Audrey worked many years as a nurses aide at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, crafts, and especially spending time with her family.
Audrey was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls.
She leaves her husband, Waino; two daughters, Janet Anderson and Joyce Korkiamaki, both of West Allis, Wis.; a brother, Gordon Iverson of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Irma Burns of Sagola and Willma Jean (James) Helgren of Channing; four grandchildren, Timothy Warren, Lance Warren, Katrina Korkiamaki and Vernae Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Brandie Warren, Aladdin Warren, Deondre Cunning and Jared Waino Anderson.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Herman Iverson, and a great-grandson, Timothy Waino Warren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Prayers will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rudolph Oradei
IRON MOUNTAIN — Rudolph Oradei, 82, of 701 7th St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born April 18, 1919, son of the late Joseph and Angela (Pricco) Oradei. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1937.
He married Verna Ade in July 1941 in Iron Mountain and she preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Oradei was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II in the Army Air Corp. During the war, he served as an interpreter for the Italian prisoners of war. He worked for Ford Motor Co. and later he went to work as a driver for Clairmont Transfer, retiring in 1969.
He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and enjoyed hunting.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna (Fred) Berger of San Diego, Calif.; a son, David (Helen) Oradei of Anchorage, Alaska; and four grandchildren, Aaron Berger and Anthony, Michael and Mark Oradei.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Earnest Ness will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park.

Arnold Ross
CRYSTAL FALLS — Arnold J. Ross, 66, of 139 Pine Cliff Road, Crystal Falls, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Florence Villa Nursing Home in Florence, Wis.
He was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Stambaugh, son of the late Edward and Helia (Korkiamaki) Ross. He grew up in Caspian and attended the Stambaugh schools.
Arnold moved to Crystal Falls where he worked at the former Warner Mine for a short time. He was then self-employed for several years as a logger and truck driver contracting with the Kimberly-Clark Corp. He later became employed by Crystal Falls Township for 10 years until his retirement.
He married the former Pearl Smithson on Sept. 17, 1955 and the couple made their home in Crystal Falls.
Arnold was a member of United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and watching deer.
But his family, especially his grandchildren, were his greatest source of enjoyment and pleasure.
Arnold was also preceded in death by a son, Gene, in 1979, and by two brother, Wayne and Allen Ross.
He leaves his wife, Pearl; three sons, James (Marilyn) Ross, Edward (friend, Carrie DeVolder) Ross and William (Sally) Ross, all of Crystal Falls; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Ross of Alpha; two brothers, Ray (Janet) Ross of Green Bay, Wis., and Gary (Mary) Ross of Sagola; a sister, Marlene (Jim) Farragh of Bessemer; three grandchildren, Heather, Gene and Toby Ross; two stepgrandchildren, Susan and Danielle Friend; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Nathan and Jeffrey; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Rev. Dr. John Linna, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.

AMBERG, Wis. — James Richard Messenger, 73, of Amberg, Wis.,
died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette,
Wis.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at
the Messar Funeral Home in Wausaukee, Wis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral

Eugene Alleva
IRON MOUNTAIN — Eugene “Gene” Alleva, 69, of 2020 Seventh Ave., Norway, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Gene was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Anton and Edith (Wright) Alleva. He attended Iron Mountain Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army.
Gene lived and worked in Lebanon, Ind. for several years. He returned to the area and worked as the head custodian at the Dickinson County Courthouse in Iron Mountain until retiring in 1998.
Gene loved to fish and spent many pleasant hours in his boat or his ice shack on Lake Antoine. He also enjoyed music, talking with people and the camaraderie with special people in his neighborhood, workplace and family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Alleva; two sisters, Helen and Mabel; and one brother, Albert.
He is survived by a son, Greg Alleva of Sagola; a sister, Marion Alleva of Freeman’s Convalescent Home in Kingsford; five brothers, Tony Alleva of Kingsford, Raymond (Jean) Alleva of Kingsford, Marvin (Margie) Alleva of Breitung Township, Arthur (Jill) Alleva of Iron Mountain, and Allan Alleva of Freeman’s Convalescent Home in Kingsford; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held today at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Pat Nolet will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Amber Komperda
IRON MOUNTAIN — Amber Lynne Komperda, 12, of Aurora, Wis., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at her mother’s home in Kingsford.
She was born Sept. 27, 1988, in Green Bay, Wis.
Amber attended Hillcrest Elementary School in Aurora. She enjoyed horses, cats, music, and photography. She especially enjoyed the outdoors.
She is survived by her mother and father, Richard and Holly Komperda; her sister, Brittany; her maternal and paternal grandparents; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the church. Rev. Martin Koeller will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Joseph Zawada
NIAGARA, Wis. — Joseph Henry Zawada, 76, of 1420 Birch Grove, Niagara, passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
Joseph was born on March 12, 1925, in Niagara, son of John and Josephine Zawada. He was a lifelong resident of Niagara, and graduated from Niagara High School. Joseph went on to attend the University of Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn.
He married the former Lola Jane Hayes on May 5, 1956, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. They were married for 45 years.
When the call of his country was heard, he proudly and courageously served in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. of Niagara.
Joseph was the proud owner of J.H. Zawada Supply and Lumber Company Inc. of Niagara. He was a self-made man, who didn’t wait for things to happen, he made them happen. He built his business from scratch and was a workaholic who dedicated his life to his business for 59 years. He built both residential and commercial throughout the area. Numerous buildings in Niagara were either built by him or had his mark on them in one way or another. He is solely responsible for building many homes in the old heights addition in Niagara. He always stood by his community.
His faith was extremely important to him and he attended church every Sunday. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Niagara, and was proud to have been on the planning committee for the new church.
He lived each day to its fullest and instilled in his children his values for life. He had a unique zest for life and believed greatly in his fellow man, and to this day, still did business on a handshake. He was taken suddenly, and before his time and will dearly miss this time on earth.
Joseph loved masonry work and had a unique bond with animals. He never officially “retired” from work but in his extra time developed the hobby of horticulture. He loved planting but always stopped long enough on the job to lay an occasional brick or block. He will greatly miss his yard on which he worked so hard to manicure. He loved his wife dearly and was proud of all his children, all whom admired and respected him greatly.
He leaves his wife, Lola; two sons, Joseph (Rhonda) Zawada and James Zawada of Niagara; three daughters, Debra Zawada of Kingsford, Julie (Ken) Maes of Niagara and Jane Zawada of Iron Mountain; a special son-in-law, Fred Neveau of Niagara; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Don) Lofholm of Norway, Nicole Neveau of Green Bay, Wis., Jeremy Zawada of Channing, Joseph and Jordan Zawada of Niagara, Lola Dahlgren and Douglas Maes of Niagara, Christopher, Derick and Courtney Carollo of Kingsford and Austin Blomquist of Iron Mountain; a great-granddaughter, Tina Marie Lofholm of Norway, who was named after the late Tina Zawada Neveau; a sister, Mary Truog; and a special niece, Judith Calovecchi. He also leaves a great personal friend, Jack Maxson of Kingsford, who shared special moments of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Zawada; two brothers, Albert and Edward; and a beloved daughter, Tina Marie Neveau.
He instilled in all of us respect, motivation, the institution of family and a great sense of security. He will be sadly missed by all who were involved in his life.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post 136 of Niagara and the V.F.W. of Niagara will offer Veterans Services on Sunday at 5:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will be recited at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate.
Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.
A memorial will be established at a later date.

Deanna Novara
IRON MOUNTAIN — Deanna J. Novara, 37, of 828 Hamilton Ave., Kingsford, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Deanna was born on Nov. 29, 1963, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of Donald and Marianne (Spencer) Christensen.
Deanna was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1982. She married Paul Novara on July 22, 2000, and they resided in Kingsford. She was employed at Kmart for 21 years.
Survivors include her husband, Paul; her parents, Donald and Marianne Christensen of Kingsford; a brother, Donald Alex Christensen of Aurora, Wis.; a sister, Donna Christensen of Kingsford; a special nephew, Mitchell Christensen and two nieces, Paige Spencer and Anderianna Novara; her grandmother, Amy Spencer of Kingsford; two uncles, John Hudson Spencer and Jim Spencer, and an aunt, Linda (Joe) Galeazzi; her father and mother-in-law, Charles and JoAnn Novara of Breitung Township; two brothers-in-law, John (Brandee) Novara of Portland, lower Michigan and Mark Novara of Iron Mountain; and many other close family and friends.
We are sad to say that Deanna lost her long and courageous battle with cancer. Deanna will be remembered for her love for her husband, Paul, and her family and friends. We will never forget her sense of humor and her kind smile. She taught us all a lesson in courage that will be with us forever.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in Breitung Township Cemetery.

Phyllis Papke
ROCHELLE, Ill. — Phyllis Groop Papke, 78 , of Rochelle, Ill, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Rochelle Community Hospital in Rochelle, Ill.
She was born on Sept. 18, 1922, in Crystal Falls, the daughter of John and Hilda Marie (Ronback) Groop. She was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School.
She married Ralph W. Papke on June 13, 1953, in Crystal Falls.
Mrs. Papke was a registered nurse, and was previously employed by Rochelle Community Hospital. She received her registered nurse degree from Augustana Hospital in Chicago and her bachelor of arts degree in nursing from Augustana College in Rock Island , Il.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and also the Professional Business Women of Rochelle and the Home Extension.
She was preceded by her parents six brothers and two sisters.
She is survived her husband, Ralph of Rochelle; three sons, Steven (Patricia) Papke of Elburn, Ill., Mark (Mary Beth) Papke of Rochelle, and Ross (Beth) Papke of Lake Zurich, Ill.; two daughters, Christine Myroth of Rochelle and Nancy (Don) Heine of Hampshire, Ill.; a sister, Lorraine (Frank) Tuchowski of Crystal Falls; and12 grandchildren, Andrew, Chadwick, Emily, Bryce, Dylan, Gwendolyn, Benjamin, Amanda, James, Jacqueline, Melissa and Christina.
Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle, Ill..
Funeral services were held at Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle, Ill. on Monday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chris Beamsley officiating.
Burial was held at the Crystal Falls Cemetery on Wed. Sept. 12, 2001, at 10 a.m.
