Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2000, at First United Methodist Church for Sylvan E. Ford, 86, who died on Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at American Legion Hospital.
Reverend Bob Hollis will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Indian Bayou Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-10 p.m. and at the church of Friday from 8:30 a.m. until the time on services.
Survivors include his wife, Mina Spell Ford of Crowley; one son, John Eric Ford of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Kathleen F. Duplantis and her husband, James D. of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Maurice Ford of Berwick, Pa., and Harry Ford of Ravenna, Ohio; three sisters, Elsie Kern of Lancaster, Pa., Leona Swales of Kent, Ohio, and Sarah Jane Getz of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jennie Hess Ford; and two brothers, Glen and Paul Ford.
Mr. Ford was a member of the Methodist Men’s Club, Woodmen of the World, Oddfellows, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

William Charles “Bill” Ireland
STAFFORD, Texas - William Charles “Bill” Ireland, age 74, of Missouri City, Texas, died suddenly at his home Wednesday, May 24, 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Della Sanders Ireland; a son, Kevin and wife, Teresa of Meridian, Mississippi; a daughter, Kathlyn Ireland Jauregui and husband, Larry of Sugarland, Texas; and grandchildren, Lindsay and Olivia Ireland, Elizabeth and Jacquelyn Jauregui.
Mr. Ireland received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Penn State and was a Lieutenant in the Navy in World War II. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Quail Valley Country Club, Delta Chi Fraternity and a lifetime member of AIME. He began his career as an employee of Conoco Oil Co. and retired from American Natural Resources several years ago.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2000, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Stafford, Texas, with the Reverend Robert Waring officiating. Interment followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eunice with the Reverend Bob Hollis officiating.
Mrs. Ireland is the sister of Mrs. Donald (Flo) Jones of Crowley.

Annie Mae Boulet Boudreaux
SULPHUR - Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel on Ruth Street for Annie Mae Boulet Boudreaux, 79, who died in Lake Charles on Tuesday, May 30, 2000.
Reverend Danny Busby will officiate for the services. Burial will be held on Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Visitation will be observed on Friday from 5-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her husband, Jene Hulon Boudreaux of Sulphur; two daughters, Gloria Cole McCarty of Tyler, Texas, and Gayle Cole Underwood of Sulphur; two brothers, Dewitt Boulet of Newton, Texas, and Jerry Vincent of Corsicana, Texas; two sisters, Clora “Clara” Boulet of Merryville and Jeanette Vincent Hayley of Rosepine; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Ausbon Cole.

James D. Wriborg
IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for James D. Wriborg, 74, who died at 3:55 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Father David Broussard will officiate for the services. Burial with military honors performed by members of the American Legion Post 371 of Iota will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed today until time of services. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Pousson Wriborg of Iota; two sons, Ricky Wriborg and Dickey Wriborg, both of Iota; one sister, June Guidry of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lucille Tipton Wriborg; and one great-grandchild, Bryson K. Wriborg.
Mr. Wriborg operated J & W Grocery in Iota and was a member of the American Legion Post 371 in Iota.

Russell Lee Herpin
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Russell Lee Herpin, 45, who died at 5:34 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at his residence in Crowley.
Father Louis Richard officiated for the services. Burial was held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Survivors include his mother, Ethel Hargrave Herpin; his wife, Renee Armentor Herpin; two stepsons, Jason and Craig Simoneaux of Crowley; three brothers, Dennis Herpin of Mire, Floyd Herpin of Gueydan and Adlas Herpin of Jennings; three sisters, Dorothy LeBlanc, Etheline “Lynn” Prejean and Bernell Lemaire; and one half-sister, Winnie Caldwell.
Before going to work for Ricky Klumpp Farms, Russell owned and operated Rosco Trucking Company.
Mr. Herpin was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Herpin.
Pallbearers were Francis Grado, Walter Armentor Jr., Don Aprill, Percy Johnson, Frank Miller and Ricky Klumpp.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice for their care and support of Russell as he fought his courageous battle with Budd-Chiari Syndrome and request that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

Leon Marx
Langley Sr.
HAMMOND - Leon Marx Langley Sr., a retired corrosion engineer with the U.S. Government, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, of Alzheimer’s disease in Pontchatoula. He was 81. Mr. Langley was born in Elton and lived in New Orleans for 30 years before retiring to Pontchatoula.
Mr. Langley was a World War II veteran, having served in the European and Pacific Theaters. While serving on the aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown in the Pacific, Mr. Langley received the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Navy Unit Citation and a personal letter of commendation from Admiral Nimitz. Mr. Langley retired from the U.S. Navy in 1961.
He was a member and former Eucharist minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pontchatoula and a Third and Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Langley was the beloved husband of Consuela LaCroix Langley and the late Julia Wilson Langley. He was the father of four sons, Leon M. Langley Jr. of New Orleans, Benjamin E. Langley of Red Oak, Texas, David L. Langley of Houston, Texas, and Peter W. Langley of Opelousas; father-in-law of Rosa G. Langley of New Orleans; and stepfather of Linda Inman of Lake Charles and Nanette Wiggins of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother of William Rex Langley of Church Point; and grandfather of Lisa M. Langley, Leon M. Langley, III, Christi L. Winkelman, Jason M. Langley and the late William Brian Langley.
Mr. Langley was the son of the late Arsen William and Clementine Daigle Langley.
Visitation will be at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Pontchatoula on Tuesday, June 6, 2000, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus Service and on Wednesday after 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.
A Mass of christian burial will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pontchatoula. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Mausoleum, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Terrytown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, Minnesota 55101.

CHURCH POINT - Lennis Guidry, 80, died at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, June 7, 2000, at Our Mother of Mercy Church. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of arrangements.

Ted O. Seaton
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2000, at First Christian Church for Ted O. Seaton, 81, who died at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Burial will be held in Woodlawn Mausoleum in Crowley.
Visitation will be observed at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until noon; and at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of services.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Heinsz Seaton of Crowley; one son, Teddy Seaton Sr. of Crowley; one daughter, Darlene and her husband, Glenn Hebert of Crowley; one brother, Russell Kurtz of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, Teddy Seaton Jr., Darla and her husband, Jake LaCour; Dawn and her husband, Jay Quirk; Scottie Hebert and Delanie Hebert; and one great-grandchild, Teddy “Trey” Seaton, III.
Mr. Seaton was a member of the board of First Christian Church, Crowley Christian Care Center, Rice Civic Center, Mended Heart Association, Optimist Club and a tribal member of the Cherokee Tribe.
Pallbearers will include Teddy Seaton Jr., Trey Seaton, Scottie Hebert, Jake Lacour, Glenn Hebert and Jay Quirk.

Eula C. Smith
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for Eula C. Smith, 84, the former Eula Leger, who died on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at 3:50 p.m. at IHS of Lafayette.
Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
The Rev. John deLeeuw of Lafayette will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services.
Survivors include two sons, Oren M. Smith Jr. and his wife, Suzie of Lafayette and Thomas R. Smith, III, and his wife, Sadie of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren. Oren M. Smith, III, Thomas R. Smith, IV, Michelle Ducote, Mark Smith, Tricia Schroedter, Charlotte Smith, Allison Smith and Michael Smith; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, O.M. Smith Sr.
A native of Crowley and a resident of Lafayette for 43 years. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Joseph Leger and the former Marie Leger, both natives of Evangeline.
She was a member of the St. Leo the Great Catholic Community, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and was a Catechism teacher for 20 years. Mrs. Smith was also a member of the Alice Boucher Catholic Daughters of America.
A rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Visiting hours will be observed on Friday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Pallbearers will be Oren Smith, III, Thomas R. Smith, Mark Smith, Michael Smith, Eric Ducote and Bret Schroedter.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home Inc. of Lafayette.

LeRoy Joseph “Gregg” LaCombe
IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for LeRoy Joseph “Gregg” LaCombe, 74, who died at 6:25 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at his residence in Evangeline after a lengthy battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig disease).
Father Kenneth Mayne will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Survivors include his wife of 55 1/2 years, Anne LeJeune LaCombe of Evangeline; six children, Sandra Hebert, Diane Schneider, Barbara Gatte, Debra Brown, JoAnn Richard and Alan LaCombe, all of the Evangeline area; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lynia Hebert of Egan and Mrs. Murel Ewing of Evangeline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christy and Alice Doucet LaCombe; two brothers, Florance and Wilbert LaCombe and one grandchild, Erin Richard.
Mr. LaCombe was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Air Force.
He was a retired rice farmer. He was a Acadia Parish school bus driver for 20 years and was an Acadia Parish Police Juror for 24 consecutive 24 years.
Mr. LaCombe was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a church trustee, served on the church council and was a lector and minister of communion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 52 years.
Pallbearers will include his grandsons, Lynn Hebert, Travis Schneider, Chad Schneider, Gregg Schneider, Chet Brown, Landon Gatte, Alex Brown, Luke Richard and Seth LaCombe.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harry LaCasse, Charles LeJeune, Russell LaCombe, Herman Reed and James Hebert.
Church servers and readers will be his granddaughters, Dawn Ward, Gretchen Sloane, Anne Schneider, Heather Deville, Alison Hooper and Leigha LaCombe.

Niobe Ziegler Brown, 79, died Saturday, June 3, 2000. She was a native of Crowley.
She is survived by one sister, Emma Z. “Poochie” Fruge’ of Lafayette and five nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentice Brown; father, Leo Ziegler; mother, Amy Leleux; brother, H.N. Ziegler; sister, Norma Z. “Cookie” Leonards; and an infant son, William Leo.
She donated her body to science.

RAYNE - UDA ROY LEGER, 61, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne. Burial was held in St. Joseph Cemetery #2. Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2000, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Salvador Roy “Sam” Spallino, 63, who died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence in Crowley.

Visitation will be observed on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Survivors include his mother, Annie Ogima Spallino of Denham Springs; his wife, Ethel “Pudd” Valdetero Spallino of Crowley; one son, Douglas Shane and his wife, Debbie Poppell Spallino of Crowley; one daughter, Kathy Spallino Citron of Lafayette; five brothers, Steve, Joe and Jake Spallino, all of Crowley, Jimmy Spallino of Beaumont, Texas, and Albert Spallino Jr. of New Orleans; one sister, Jeannie Watts of Denham Springs; and seven grandchildren, Seth Garrett Citron, Jacquelyn “Jack” Citron, Meagan Lee Citron, Angel Citron Myers, Heather Rae Spallino, Samantha Blake “Sam” Spallino and Shannon Michelle “Dee” Spallino.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Spallino Sr. and one brother, Johnny Spallino.
Mr. Spallino retired after 35 years as owner of Salvador’s Jewelers. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Pallbearers will include Shane, Brian and Mike Spallino, Seth Citron, and Doug and Brian Valdetero.

GUEYDAN - Wildis “Crip” Bertrand, 82, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at 5:30 a.m. at Gueydan Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2000, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan. Burial was held in Gueydan Cemetery with full military rites. RAYNE - Lawrence Joseph Bazile, 82, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Cuningham Methodist Church. Burial was held in Rayne Protestant Cemetery. Duhon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Felix C. Guilbeau
Arlington, VA - Private memorial services will be held at a later date with burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. for Felix C. Guilbeau, 84, of New Orleans. Mr. Guilbeau died Thursday, June 15, 2000 in Ferriday, La.
Mr. Guilbeau was born November 26, 1915 in Sunset, La. The son of Dr. Felix Charles and Alice Frances Brooks Guilbeau. He served as Navigator on B-29 during World War II. Mr. Guilbeau obtained a MBA from Harvard University after th war. He worked as personnel officer for Aramco in Arabia. He also taught at Loyola University and Delgado Community College in New Orleans, La.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice G. Guidroz of New Orleans and Frances G. Godbold of Natchez, Ms.; one niece, Ann L. Robinson of Lafayette and one nephew, Ferd S. Godbold, III of Dallas, TX.
Mr. Guilbeau was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Clem G. Lowrey.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Michael John Deville
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Michael John Deville, 33, of Rayne, who died June 14 in an offshore rig accident.
Burial was held in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica Broussard of Rayne; two sons, Jayson Deville and Webster Deville of Branch; two daughters, Lannah Broussard and Shandi Deville of Rayne; his mother, Rita Deville of Crowley; three brothers, Glenn, Stephen and Darrell Deville of Crowley; four sisters, Cheryl Edwards and Sandra Deville of Crowley, Roxanne Zaunbrecher of Pineville, and Monika Deshotel of Lafayette; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ovey Trahan of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norris Deville; brother, Robert Deville; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Deville.
Visitation was observed on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday.

RAYNE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Gossen Funeral Home for Fernest Joseph “Johnny” Cormier, 65, who died on Monday, June 19, 2000, in Crowley.
Burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Simon Cormier of Rayne; one son, Johnny E. Cormier and his wife, Farrah of Rayne; two daughters, Elise C. Duet and her husband, Joseph of Waggaman; and Monica C. Stelly and her husband, David of Rayne; four brothers, Louis, Gertis and Gilbert Cormier and Julius Comeaux, all of Rayne; three sisters, Solange Marie Johnson of Kenner, Anna Menard of Rayne and Rita Cormier of Rayne; one grandchild, David “T.J.” Stelly.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Percy, Albert and August Cormier; and a grandchild, Caverick Dale Stelly.
He was a member of the American Legion.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2000, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Raymond John Oncale, 69, who died at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2000, at his sister’s residence in Crowley.
Monsignor Charles Mallet will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation was observed on Thursday from 4-10 p.m. and will be observed on Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Oncale and his wife, Delana of Eunice and Bryan Oncale and his wife, Debra of Eunice; one brothers, Gerald Oncale of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Virginia Ruddock of Crowley, Florence Allen of Bradenton, Florida, and Lucille Ramos of Crowley; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Cory, Amber, Tiffany, Megan and Kristian Oncale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ruth Oncale; infant daughter, Ann Oncale; sister, Lorraine Daniels; brother, Marion Oncale; and parents, Edward and Marie Oncale.
Mr. Oncale owned and operated Ray’s Bakery in Eunice for over 40 years. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War period and was an active member of the Eunice Chapters of the V.F.W. and American Legion.

Freddie “Pap” Bias
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 23, 2000, at Bethel CME Church for Freddie “Pap” Bias. Visitation is being held until the time of services at the church.
Burial will be in Branch Cemetery.
Freddie “Pap” Bias was born on October 16, 1936, in Maxie, Louisiana, to the late Leon Bias Sr. and Inez Harrison Bias.
He was Christened into the Methodist faith. He joined the membership of Bethel CME Church in 1978 and until his depature on Monday, June 19, 2000, he was a very faithful member. His “Place” in church, was the first Pew, on the lest side of the Sanctuary.
Freddie resided at Christian Villa Nursing Home since 1974. He attended the Southwest Developmental Center in Iota since 1976. He Loved the staff, both at the nursing home and the school, as family.
He leaves to mourn the following: two sisters, Mrs. Alma Coleman of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Mrs. Rose B. Jacob of Crowley, Louisiana; two brothers, John B. (Theresa) Bias of Beaumont, Texas, and Lester (Gertie) Bias of Scott, Louisiana; 11 nieces, 14 nephews; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a special long time friend, Ms. Rosa Lee Bowers, resident of Christian Villa Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon “Pie” and Inez H. Bias; three brothers, Eailey, Clyde, and Leon; and two sisters, Annie Mae and Alice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Legnion and Uranie Doucet Legnion; her husband, Euzeb Guidry; two sons, Andrus and Andrew Guidry; six sisters and two brothers.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family and friends, but her smile will forever be remembered.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 15.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gaspard of Houston; one daughter, Carla Castille and her husband, Raymond of Houston; three sons, Tommy Gaspard and his wife, Cheryl, Bernice Gaspard and his wife, Diana, and Marcus Gaspard and his wife, Susan, all of Houston; his mother, Gladys Gaspard of Crowley; two sisters, Judy Miller of Crowley and Mary Brown of Magnolia, Texas; three brothers, Percy Gaspard of Lake Jackson, Texas, Paul Gaspard of Houston and Donald Gaspard of Crowley; and three granddaughters, Heather and Leif Potter, Katie Castille and Taylor Gaspard; and seven grandsons, Jamie Gaspard and his girlfriend, Jodi Bonhomme, Joey Castille, Jeff Gaspard, Bryan Gaspard, Chris Gaspard, Hunter Gaspard and Spencer Gaspard.
Mr. Gaspard battled cancer for the past five and one-half years. He passed away with all his loving family around him. He and his wife were married for 47 years. He was a native of Lyons Point and a resident of Houston, Texas, for the past few years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Gaspard; two sisters, Ethel Melancon and Willie Mae Lambousy.
