OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2000, at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Eugene A. Casanova, 69, the former Jennie Presley, who died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Reverend Henry Blount will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene “Gene” A. Casanova of Estherwood; one daughter, Jennifer Casanova of Eunice; one brother, Steve Presley of Westlake; and one sister, Mr. R.W. Haile of Metairie; and two grandchildren, John Austin and Lauren Seale.
Mrs. Casanova was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Steven Presley and Gertrude Cole Presley; and one brother, Marion Presley.
She was owner of Casanova Optical and Hearing Aid Center. She served as a board member of the Acadia Parish Library and was instrumental in starting the Estherwood Recreation Department. She was also active in the formation of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Crowley for Ima Lee Adams, 87, the former Ima Lee Lancaster, who died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2000, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. She had been a resident of Maison de Lafayette in Lafayette for over a year. The Reverend Alan Knuckles will conduct the services.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ann Adams Williams Merritt of Texarkana, Texas; one son, Jerry P. Adams of Lafayette; five sisters, Marie Elsberry of Beaumont, Texas, Dorothy Jennings of Tyler, Texas, Bobbie Duncan of Friendswood, Texas, Mary Lou Thompson of Van, Texas, and Martha Sue Harper of Longview, Texas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wylie Marvin Adams; her parents, Huey Curtis Lancaster and the former Bobbie Marshall; one brother, Curtis Junior Lancaster; and two sisters, Angie Harkins and Louise Lancaster, all of Texas.
Born in Gary, Texas, and a resident of Crowley since 1951, Mrs. Adams was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Crowley and a longtime secretary of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She belonged to the church’s JOY Club and was a member of the Rebekahs. She is remembered as a kind and gracious lady and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Visiting hours will be observed at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, 301 North Avenue F, Crowley from 4-9 p.m. Thursday, August 3 and o on Friday from 8 a.m. until noon and at First Baptist Church, 228 East Fourth Street, Crowley on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Pallbearers will be Ray Williams, Neal Williams, Kyle Williams, Layne Williams, Paul Adams and Monte Curran.

Survivors include her husband, J.W. Fleming of Kerrville; one son, E.J. Gilbert Jr. of Spring, Texas; one sister, Wilma Rumery of Vinton; one sister-in-law, Ouida Nelson of Crowley; and one brother-in-law, J.L. Gilbert of Cassiville, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elloitt Joseph Gilbert; her parents, George Bourgeois and Elia Boone Bourgeois; and three brothers and sister, Joseph Bourgeois, Rudi Paul Bourgeois and Evelyn Bourgeois.
A native of Iota, she lived in Beaumont for several years. She was a graduate of Iota High School and was a retired Avon Sales Manager.

KAPLAN - Belle Hebert Wiggins, 88, of Crowley, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, August 26, at the Crowley Guest House. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 28, at Vincent Funeral Home. Burial was held at Kaplan Cemetery. Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan was in charge of arrangements.
Homer James Stewart
Lt. Col. Homer James Stewart, 79, died at his residence in Sequim, Wash., after a long battle with cancer. “Stu” to his friends, Col. Stewart was born in Walla Walla, Wash., in 1929 to Leslie and Josephine Schreiber Stewart. After serving in World War II, he married Lea Anna Elberson.
With their three children, the Stewarts traveled the world for 30 years while he served in the U.S. Air Force. During his military career, Col. Stewart received many honors including the Distinquished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, and the Air Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal. At the end of World War II he flew with the famed Flying Tigers over China.
Stu and his wife Lea Anna have lived in Sequim for the past 14 years, during which they were members of St. Joseph’s Church, the Strait Men choral group, and Sunland Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lea Anna Stewart; two daughters, Cassandray Whellams of Orcas Island, Wash., and Jan Thomas of Yakima, Wash.; a son, Jeffery Stewart of Portland, Ore.; and his brother, Bob Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s in Sequim Thursday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. Graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla.

Mr. Leonards was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Augusta Zaunbrecher Leonards; two sisters, Johanna and Lidwina Leonards; three brothers, Vincent, Norbert and Raymond Leonards.
Mr. Leonards was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1318, Serra Club, St. Leo IV Holy Name Society, St. Michael Perpetual Adoration Society. He was a retired rice and cattle farmer having farmed for 60 years.

HOUSTON - Michael David Hoffpauir, 46, passed away Monday, August 7, 2000. He was a 1973 graduate of Clear Lake High School. He served in the U.S. Marines for six years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Ellis Hoffpauir.

Blanche Cart Carter
Born August 28, 1904, in Iota to Joseph Neville and Clemence McFarlain Cart. She died on Saturday, August 19, 2000, in Houston, Texas. She was married to Charles Carter, who preceded her in death.
She grew up in Iota and later moved to Lake Charles, where she graduated from Lake Charles High School.
She was the youngest of ten children, who all preceded her in death. Her brothers and sisters were Eliza Fletcher, Marie Reed, Dora Reed, Lucy Cart Bernard, Famous Cart, Rosa Cart LeJeune, Raoul Cart, Gilbert Cart and Mae Cart Milner.
After her marriage to Charles Carter of Lake Charles, they moved to Houston, Texas, where she lived for the past 40 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Houston, Texas.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings. Reverend Henry Prentice will conduct the services.

A native of Morse and a former resident of Baton Rouge for 25 years, Mrs. Breaux had been a resident of Lafayette for the past eight years. She was the daughter of the late Clamile Trahan of Morse and the former Gladys Woods of Morse.
Mrs. Breaux was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Community of Lafayette.
A rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Visiting hours will be observed on Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Vivian Bernard Benoit, 68, who died at 4:15 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2000, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Father Raymond Carignan, SSJ, will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in South Crowley Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Algie Benoit; four daughters, Mrs. John (Marla) Henderson of Marshall, Texas, Alichia Benoit, Mrs. Terry (Vivian) Barker and Mrs. Danny (Roxanna) Montgomery, all of Crowley; one son, David Benoit and his wife, Elizabeth of San Bernadino, California; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Violet Benoit of Crowley; one sister, Mrs. Murphy Lillian Bates of Crowley and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Charlie Bernard Sr.; two sons, Johnathan and Patrick Benoit; one brother, Charlie Bernard Jr.; and three sisters, Rosita Scott, Mildred Ledet and Glady Jennings.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Randy Ayers of Lake Charles; one son, Dury Kenneth Ayers of England; one daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Jeri Angel) Fleming of Lake Charles; one step daughter, Mrs. Keoki (Victoria) Heukolani of Las Vegas, Nevada; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Ruby) Guidry of Evangeline; two brothers, Larry Guidry Jr. of Crowley and Wayne Guidry of Evangeline; three sisters, Mrs. Chris (Peggy) Trahan of Crowley, Marilyn Prather of Crowley and Mrs. Todd (Leslie) Benoit of Welsh; and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Fleming of Lake Charles.
A resident of Lake Charles, she was a graduate of Midland High School. She served in the United States Air Force for two and one half years. She was employed by the Federal Civil Service for 12 years.
Edward Francis Bavery
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2000, at First Presbyterian Church in Crowley for Edward Francis Bavery, 77, who died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at his home in Crowley.
Visitation will be observed at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Edward Bavery was born March 20, 1923, in Oregon, Wisconsin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bavery.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Elaine Dunphy Bavery and two daughters, Caryl N. Coleman and her husband, Rich of Ashland, Kentucky, and Melinda Malmay and her husband, Bill of Crowley; one brother, Russell Bavery of Oregon, Wisconsin; his grandchildren are Melanie H. Salyer of Raleigh, North Carolina, Leigh Ann and Daniel P. Helo of Ashland, Kentucky, and Megan E. Malmay of Crowley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rose Bavery; his brothers, Eugene Bavery of Pasadena, California, and Lloyd Bavery of Oregon, Wisconsin, and a sister, Geneva Terasa of Madison, Wisconsin.
Eddie was a past member of the Masonic Lodge; Past Chaplain of the American Legion Post 15. He served from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Master Sergeant with the 44th Bombardment Squadron and was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. Additionally, he served as treasurer for 21 years.
Pallbearers include Darrell Hustad, Kenny Bavery, John Foux, Darrel Sing, Byron Rue, Dean Schulz, Rich Coleman and Steve Mire.
