Robert “Doug” McCall
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 2, 2002 at Ebenezer Nazarene Church for Robert “Doug” McCall, 59, who died at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 at his residence in Indian Bayou. Officiating for the funeral service will be the Reverend Joe Talhelm, pastor of Ebenezer Nazarene Church. Burial will be in Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation was observed from 2:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday and again today from 8 a.m. until noon at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home. The body will then be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Mr. McCall was a flooring installer and served in the Army during the Vietnam Era.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Francis Winchester McCall of Indian Bayou; a daughter, Kim M. Istre and her husband Kenneth, of Crowley; a son, Wayne McCall and his wife, Brenda, of Crowley; his mother, Gertie Alma Hoffpauir McCall of Indian Bayou and four grandchildren, Corde and Cameron McCall and Kaleb and Korry Istre.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Eugene McCall, and a brother, Sterling Eugene McCall.

Ms. Lytha Navarre Funtes
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Ms. Lytha Navarre Funtes, 95, who died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at her residence in Crowley.
Burial will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home chapel.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and again at 8 a.m. on Thursday until the time of the service.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary and William Graboski of Crowley; one brother, Harry Navarre of Crowley; six grandchildren, Bonnie LeJeune, Gary Hoffpauir, Sheila Bertrand, Chad Graboski, Natalie Prather and Jessica Comeaux, 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Philip Funtes; her parents, Polite Navarre ad Emily Navarre; four brothers, Tommy, Jimmy, Wallace and Willie Funtes; and one sister, Delta Medus.
Pall bearers include Kevin LeJeune, Virgil Bertrand, Parko Prather, Darrel Stafford, Ricky Benoit and Walter Benoit. Glady Trahan will be honorary pall bearer.

Suzanna Cutter Wilson
A memorial Mass will be held Thursday, May 30, at Geesey-Ferguson Chapel for Suzanna Cutter Wilson, 80, who died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Officiating for the services is Fr. Joe Steffes.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
She is survived by her husband, Ned D. Wilson; one daughter, Sally Wilson Dupuis; two grandchildren, Gregory Alan and Allison Renee Dupuis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Herbert Schabacker, and two brothers, Robert Cutter and Jack Cutter.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. and had resided in Crowley for the past 50 years. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the St. Michael Altar Society, and was a long-standing member of the St. Michael Church Choir. She served as 4-H leader for both St. Michael Elementary and Notre Dame High School for many years. A long-time member of the Crowley Garden Club and past president of the Ladies Golf Association, she also taught duplicate bridge lessons and was a Life Master duplicate bridge player. She and her husband Ned enjoyed traveling around the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Notre Dame High School Teacher Benefit Fund.

MIDLAND - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Saint Aloysius Chapel for R.J. Henry, 80, who died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Fr. David Broussard and Fr. Donald Pousson will co-officiate for the funeral services. The VFW Post 6720 will provide full military honors.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening by Fr. Rusty Richard.

Henry is survived by his wife, Viola B. Henry of Midland; three sons, Rodley Henry and his wife Barbara of Baton Rouge, Learney Henry and his wife Lucy of Midland, and Keith Henry and his wife Debbie of Mermentau Cove; one brother, Wilbert Doo Henry; seven grandchildren, Todd Henry and his wife Tracy, Craig Henry and his wife Jamie, Nancy Myers and her husband Richard, Lori Henry, Darla Henry, Kourie Henry and Chance Henry; four great grandchildren, Aimee, Stephen, Shanel and Ross Paul.
He is preceded in death by his parents, August and Leonie Myers Henry; one sister, Zora H. Simon, and two grandchildren.
Henry was a member of the Saint Aloysius Catholic Church in Midland where he served as usher and caretaker of the church grounds and church hall for many years. He was a veteran of World War II as a member of the United States Army. Henry was also a member of American Legion Post 15 of Crowley.
He owned and operated the Midland Grocery for over 20 years and was also employed at the Rice Enrichment Plant of Crowley, First Street, for over 20 years.

Billy J. Babineaux Sr.
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services for Billy J. Babineaux Sr., 55, will be at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, May 30, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church.
The Revs. Joseph F. Brennan and Floyd J. Calais will be concelebrants of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Musical selections for the services will include “The Prayer of St. Francis,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Wind Beneath My Wings.”
Interment
will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Thursday. A rosary will be prayed Wednesday evening in the Martin and Castille Funeral Home.

Mr. Babineaux died at 4:55 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at his Lafayette residence following a long illness.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, the former Mary Linda Klumpp of Lafayette; one son, Billy Babineaux Jr. and his wife, the former Gretchen Endsley; one daughter, Jennifer Babineaux Guidry and her husband Joel Guidry; two beloved granddaughters, Leigh Kathryn Babineaux and Avery Linn Guidry; and one brother, Bobby J. Babineaux and his wife, the former Blanche Boutin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Edola Dupuis Babineaux; and one brother, Ronald Babineaux.
A native of New Iberia and a longtime resident of Lafayette, Mr. Babineaux was employed by Ocean Energy, Inc., since 1995 as the scout representative. He was previously employed by Quintana Petroleum Corp. for more than 18 years.
He was a past president and on the board of directors of the South Louisiana Offshore Oil Scouts Association and was a member of the International Oil Scouts Association.
He was a member of the St. Genevieve Catholic Church Community and was an integral member of the St. Genevieve/Teurlings Catholic School Board and was a founding member of the St. Genevieve/Teurlings Catholic Endowment Board.
Mr. Babineaux was an accomplished musician, songwriter and composer and was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
Pallbearers are Bryan Babineaux, Joel Guidry, Mark Klumpp, Mike Babineaux, C.J. Babineaux, Alvin Maturin, Albert Armand and Butch Dupuis.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Breaux Stoute of Crowley; one son, Ronnie Stoute and his wife Wanda of Crowley; one brother, Lawrence Stoute and his wife Lula of Crowley; one sister, Leota Gray of St. Bernard; three step-grandchildren, Sabrina Louvierre, Sonia Sonnier and Randall Credeur; five step-great grandchildren, Keisha, Cody, Trevor, Kaleigh and Joel; and one step-great-great grandchild, Keaton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Armand Stoute, and his mother, Laura Roberts Stoute; one brother, Dryfus Stoute; and four sisters, May Abshire, Gersay Abshire, Dorothy Hoffpauir and Nolince Dupre.
Mr. Stoute was a member of the First Full Gospel Church of Roanoke. He owned and operated Johnny’s Top Soil for 20 years. He served his country during World War II in the Unites States Navy.
He enjoyed playing gospel music on his guitar and he also loved working in his garden.

Mr. Latiola died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
He was a native of Egan and a resident of Jennings. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Longleaf Hunting Club and the Avid Hunter and Fisherman Club. He was a retired plant operator for Himent, presently Basell, of Lake Charles.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Miller Latiola of Jennings; four daughters, Mrs. Craig (Roxanne) David of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Ronald (Stefanie) Fontenot II of Hathaway, Stacie Latiola of Crockett, Texas, and Mrs. Scott (Cheree) Stanley of Welsh; two brothers, Ray Latiola of Vine Grove, Ky, and Phillip Latiola of New Iberia; one sister, Gloria Fay Foreman of Lafayette; and five grandchildren, Lorenzo Gonzales, Nathan and Brandon Fontenot, Lauren and Carter Davis.

Coley Bellamy
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. in Our Mother of Mercy Shrine here, with Father Richard Wagner, S.S.J., officiating and assisted by the Rev. Mr. Nolton Senegal, for Mr. Coley Bellamy, 73, of Rayne.
Mr. Bellamy died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in Lafayette General Hospital.
Burial was in Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery here.
Coley Martin Bellamy, Jr., graduated form Most Pur Heart of Mary High School in Mobile, Ala. He attended Xavier University in New Orleans until he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict.
After an honorable discharge, he received a bachelor of science degree from Southern University, a master’s degree in Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Ill., and pursued further studies at several other universities.
Mr. Bellamy worked as a band director of several schools, including Herod High School, Abbeville; Armstrong High School, Rayne; Church Point Junior and High School, Church Point, as well as Holy Rosary Institute in Lafayette.
He served as assistant principal of Church Point High School and Principal of Church Point Junior High School and Church Point High School, and Holy Rosary Institute between the years of 1973 to 1993.
An avid tennis player, Mr. Bellamy had, at one point, ranked number seven in state tennis competition.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Bellamy, Rayne; one son, Paul René Bellamy, Rayne; one granddaughter, Alysia Y. Bellamy; six sisters-in-laws, Hilda T. Bellamy, San Antonio, Texas, Brenda B. Francis, Rayne, Paula A. (Anthony) Pitre, Jennings, Christine D. (Lollo, Jr.) Francis and Lorene Z. St. Mary, both of Lake Charles, and Patricia J. Norris, Crowley; one brother-in-law, Delmar J. Allen, Duson; four nieces and six nephews; and a host of grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coley Bellamy, Sr., and Hattie Conner Bellamy; one brother, Herbert Bellamy; a sister-in-law, Shirley Shallow; and one niece, Mary Susan B. Santos.
Mr. Bellamy served over 24 years as an alderman on the Rayne City Council.
He also was an ordained Catholic deacon, serving the congregation of Our Mother of Mercy Shrine. He also served at Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Center on the campus of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. The 25th anniversary of his ordination was observed this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Bellany were happily married for 46 years.
The family acknowledges the untiring care and support of the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, the staff of Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, and the staff of Lafayette General Hospital, all of Lafayette, Dr. Ernest W. Kinchen, Dr. Carolyn Smith, and all of the healthcare personnel who assisted us during Coley’s lengthy illness.

Mrs. Leleux was a native and lifelong resident of Gueydan and a member of the Gueydan Garden Club.

Mrs. Agnes Henry
Mrs. Agnes Henry of Rayne died in the Lord on May 14, 2002, at the age of 92, in Largo, Fla. She lived a full life and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, and one granddaughter Connie Kocher.
She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Buescher of Crowley, and one son, James Henry of Largo; four grandchildren, Holly Kahn of Rayne, Tammy Horsthemke, Thomas Henry and Teri Dick, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Henry was born in Richmond, Ind., and lived in Central Indiana for 90 years until she moved to Rayne in August 2000. She enjoyed being near her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughters. She was visiting her son in Florida when the Lord called her home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, at the Wilson-St. Pierre Funeral Home in Greenwood, Ind., with interment
in the Greenwood cemetery.

A memorial service for Vera Coles Wade will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Crowley at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002. Mrs. Wade died on Monday, April 8, at Bayou Village Nursing Home in Crowley.

Mrs. Wade was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church who was highly involved in the Episcopal Church Women, St. Margaret’s Guild, and the Altar Guild. She and her husband Lucien Wade were also instrumental in the ministry at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church Mission in Eunice.

Col. Wilder was a native of Crowley, La, and the son of the late Jessie A. and Ruth Blakeman Wilder. Wilder graduated from Southwestern La. Institute in 1936 with a degree in civil engineering. He then served in the US Army Corps of Engineers for more than 28 years. Upon retirement from the Army in 1968, he worked for the Port of New Orleans serving as chief engineer of the Dockboard until August, 1984.

Mrs. Mabel Stephen Bashay was born on August 26, 1912 to Farina and Joseph Stephen in Midland, Louisiana. At a very early age, she was christened and baptized under the leadership of Rev. J.J. Wilson at Morning Star Baptist Church in Midland. She remained an active and faithful member. Later, she met and married Richard Bashay in 1929.
Five children were born to this union, Beatrice, Farina, Sadie, Ruby and Richard Jr. Mable went on to become the Head usher and Deaconess of Morning Star. When Morning Star church closed, she joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Crowley, under the leadership of Rev. Keith Matthews. She was the Mother of the church and a Deaconess. She remained an active member until her illness.
A daughter, Farina Bashay Jones, and her husband, Richard Bashay, Sr., preceded her in death. Mable Bashay had been married 72 years.
A loving and devoted mother, she leaves to mourn three daughters, Beatrice Bashay Cain of Crowley, Sadie B. Hatcher and her husband, Andrew of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Ruby Bashay of Cleveland, Ohio; one son, Richard Bashay, Jr. and his wife, Hilda of Columbus, Georgia; two sisters, Adeline Dronet of Crowley and Effie Mae Palmer of Houston Texas; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, nine great, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Willie Leckelt
IOTA - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Iota for Willie Leckelt, 79, who died Saturday, May 4, at 6:55 p.m. at his residence in Iota.
Rev. Gary Koopman officiated the services held in the Maxie Cemetery in Iota.
Visitation was observed on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Merdress G. Leckelt of Iota; three sons, Kenneth R. Leckelt and his wife Linda, Fredrick W. Leckelt and his wife Velda, and Warren P. Leckelt and his wife Susanne, all of Iota; three daughters, Barbara L. Cart and her husband Cecil of Crowley, Katherine L. Tammen and her husband Larry of Pineville and Phyllis Leckelt of Iota; two sisters, Thelma Romaine of Iota and Lola Belle Gotte of Gotte’s Cove; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes Hebert Leckelt, five sisters and four brothers.
Pallbearers were Gerrick Leckelt, Paul Leckelt Jr., Chad Leckelt, Troy Lantz, Larry Tammen and Shane Leckelt.
Leckelt was a member of the United State Army and a veteran of World War II.

ATLANTA - Rosalind C. (Rozi) Trahan, 25, of Atlanta, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 after a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Adamski officiating.
Interment
will follow in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens.

Miss Trahan is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Margaret G. Tanner; her aunts, Miia Aline Trahan and Amy Rene Trahan.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Stephanie Tanner and Woody Woodall of Flowery Branch; her father and stepmother, Rod and Kim Trahan of Covington; a sister and brother-in-law, Samarah and Russell Hays of Lawrenceville; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Trahan of Tucker; a nephew, Isaac Hayes of Lawrenceville; three stepsisters, Jody, Jessy and Jayden Thompson of Covington; maternal step-grandmother, Mary Tanner of Los Angeles; her companion, Yampier Milian; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Miss Trahan was a native of Crowley and a life-long resident of the Metro Atlanta area. She was employed by the High Museum of Art and an assistant manager at the Garden Hills Lefont Theatre, a graduate of Brookwood High School and an A student at Georgia State University. She was of Catholic faith and her heart felt ways, caring spirit and love of life, friends and family, will be sadly missed.

ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at St. Margaret Catholic Church for Leroy Joseph Roy, 75, who died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Officiating for the funeral service was Fr. Russell Harrington. Burial was in the Estherwood Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation was observed from 2 p.m. until 10 pm. Monday and again from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Leola Mier and her husband Brady of Crowley; five nieces and six nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Mary Myers Roy, five sisters and two brothers.
Roy was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He retired from Amoco Oil after being employed in various capacities for many years, most recently worked as a consultant to the oil industry.

IOTA - Funeral services for Sable Mier Romine, 80, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mrs. Romine died at 8:50 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at American Legion Hospital.

Dorothy Elizabeth “Dot” Bollich
BASILE - Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth “Dot” Bollich will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Basile Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry Hauffpauier will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemtery in Mowata.
Mrs. Bollich, 94, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at the Basile Care Center.
She loved and gave to all and asked nothing in return. As well as a homemaker, Dot was instrumental in starting Basile’s first library, and the Basile Home Demonstration Club.
She also worked as a substitute school teacher. In addition, Dot was the town clrek for many years during the early 1950s. She eagerly served and helped all who came to her office.
Dorothy leaves with love extended to all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bollich; three brothers, Pickney Alpha, Earl Alpha and Smith Alpha; and four sisters, Bertyle Alpha, Bell Hebert, Margaret Parrish and Florence Henderson.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Joel Lynn “Butch” Bollich of Covington; one brother, Max Alpha; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Russel Joseph Green, 76, who died Thursday, May 2, at Lafayette General Hospital. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with Fr. Louis Richard officiating.

The son of the late Israel Green and Artillia Mier Green, he was born in Evangeline on Dec. 16, 1925. He served in the armed services fro 1944-1946 and was a retired supervisor of the Blade Shop at Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. in Lafayette where he was employed from 1967 until his retirement in 1992.
Survivors include his beloved spouse of 57 years, Fadelta Doucet Green; one son, Ronald Wayne Green Sr. and his wife Vicky Menard Green of Crowley; three daughters, Wanda Lois Green Trahan and her husband John J. Trahan of Sunset, Charlotte Ann Green Crews and her husband Jerry M. Crews of Tomball, Texas and Carla Sue Green Coniker and her husband John T. Coniker of Cedar Park, Texas; two sisters, Ruth G. Guillory of Jennings and Virginia G. Fontenot of Welsh; five grandchildren, Barry P. Trahan, Shannon J. Trahan and his wife Camille, Ronald W. Green Jr., Lorrie Green Brouillette and her husband Chris, Becky Crews Doran and her husband Tres; six great grandchildren, Keagan Trahan, Madison and Brody Trahan and Logan, Ty and Jake Brouillette.

Mrs. Broussard died at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Crowley American Legion Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Austin Broussard of Lake Arthur; two daughters, Elize Ann Suire of Baton Rouge and Sally McClelland of Buna, Texas; two sons, Lewis Broussard of Maurice and Richard Broussard of Jennings; one brother, Ray Richard of Mermentau; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Broussard was originally from Mermentau and was a resident of Lake Arthur for the last 33 years where she was a member of the Lake Arthur American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Jennings VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy and Louise Leger; and one grandchild, Anissa Leger.
