Lee ‘Red’ Broussard
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 13 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Lee Joseph “Red” Broussard, 73, who died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 at his residence in Rayne.
Fr. Joseph Greenwell officiated for the service. A rosary was be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
Burial was be in LeBlanc Cemetery in Midland.
Broussard is survived by his mother, Pauline S. Broussard of Rayne; his four sons, Jerry Paul Broussard of Carencro, Gerald Joseph Broussard who lives out of state, Anthony Joseph Broussard of New Orleans and Richard Lee Broussard of Lafayette; one sister, Juanita Caillouet of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Winston Broussard of Jennings and Ernest Broussard of Crowley; nine grandchildren including Jeremy Paul Broussard of Rayne and Brady Lee Broussard of New Orleans and one great-grandchild, Kaitlin Louise Broussard of New Orleans.
Mr. “Red” was preceded in death by his father, Adonise Broussard.
He was a member of the Jaycees, Optimist Club, the American Legion, a Scout master, and a Roman Catholic.
He was a member of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

JENNINGS – Herman Dale Leckelt, 82, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at Jennings American Legion Hospital. Aurelita Stamm McLendon
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, Aug. 9 at St. Pius X Catholic Church for Aurelita Stamm McLendon, 85, who died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 in a local hospital. Burial followed at Seaside Memorial Park with Msgr. Shirley as the celebrant.
Born and raised in Rayne, she is a graduate from the University of Texas in 1938 with a bachelor of art degree in education. Prior to her retirement in 1987, she had been employed with the McAllen Independent School District for twenty years as an elementary school teacher.
She was a prior member of the St. Pius X Auxiliary and volunteered with the Blessed Sacrament Convent. She also enjoyed playing bridge and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan H. McLendon; her sisters, Joselyn Page and Paula Stamm, and a brother, A.F. Stamm Jr.
She is survived by her children, Dan H. McLendon Jr. of Augusta, Ga, Carolina Fraser of Santa Rosa, Calif., Kathleen Archey of Anchorage, Alaska and Maxine Grim of Austin, Texas; her sisters, Eliska Zock of Crowley and Joy Leach of Houston, and a brother, Stephen Stamm of Crowley.

Preston Joseph Adam
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for Preston Joseph Adam, 93, who died at 11:50 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2002 at Landmark Nursing Home in Crowley.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Fr. David Broussard officiating.
Visitation will be observed Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Mr. Adam is survived by three grandsons, Patrick Leleux and his wife Johnette, Marcus Leleux and his wife Pam, and Glen Leleux and his wife Janice, all of Crowley; one granddaughter, Donna Leleux of Crowley; one son-in-law, Rev. Rodless Leleux of Crowley; one brother, Camile Adam of Kaplan; 13 great grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three step grandsons and one step granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Azilda G. Adam; two daughters, Mildred L. Leleux and Clara Adam; and one brothers, Frank Adam.
Mr. Adam was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and was a retired rice and cattle farmer.

Joseph ‘Sam’ Broussard
MORSE - Funeral services for Joseph “Sam” Broussard, 77, are scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Theriot officiating.
Burial will be in Hanks Cemetery with full military rites. A rosary will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
Mr. Broussard died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at 8:58 a.m. at his residence.
Visitation will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elvia Broussard of Morse; one son, Mike Broussard and his companion Margaret Doucet of Big Lake; three daughters, Sue Broussard Pego and her husband Pye of Groves, Texas, Bobbie Broussard Cormier and her husband Jerome of Morse and Kathy Broussard Hebert and her husband Gilbert of Riceville; a half sister, Eve Premeaux Touchet of Beaumont; eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Adonia Broussard; one grandchild, Chad Allen Broussard; two sisters, Blanche Broussard Byron and Rose Broussard Premeaux; and four brothers, Black Broussard, Ferdy Broussard Sr., Willis Broussard and Clevines Broussard.
Pallbearers are Sue Broussard Pego, Bobbie Broussard Cormier, Kathy Broussard Hebert, Regina Garza, MaRanda Cormier, Adonia Guidry, Angelia Broussard, Chantelle Abney and Mike Broussard.
A native of Lake Arthur, he was a resident of Morse and served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, the Emergency Fund of VA in Alexandria or Hospice of St. Landry.

Charles B. Duhon
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 9 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Charles Bennet Duhon, 64, who died Friday at his residence in Vidor, Texas.
A native of Kaplan, Mr. Duhon was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. After his military service he worked in Crowley for several years as an electrician for Hargrave Electric. He later moved to Vidor where he was employed as an electrician with Texaco Refinery until his retirement four years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Romero Duhon of Vidor; one so, David Charles Duhon of Beaumont; two grandchildren Blake Dillon Duhon and Brooke Mariah Duhon, both of Gainesville, Ga.; one brother, Bryan Duhon of Kaplan and a sister, Jewell D. Johnson of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theard Duhon and Della Guidry Duhon.
Visitation will be at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Monday.
Avery L. Rose
Avery Lauren Rose, infant daughter of Benjy and Kathie Rose of Lake Charles, died Saturday, September 7, 2002 at a local hospital.
Survivors include two brothers, Austin Williams and Griffin Andrew Rose both of Lake Charles, paternal grandparents; Marion and Cathy Rose of Iota; paternal great grandmother, Bobbie Foret of Iota; maternal grandparents, Cory and Sharon Kaminsky of Victoria, Tx.; three uncles, David Rose of Iota, Andy Kaminsky of Houston and Cory Kaminsky of Austin.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday September 9, 2002 at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Doug DeGraffenried will officiate. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in St. Peter the Apostle Church for Tiffany Broussard, 25, who died Friday.
Burial will be in Gueydan Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Clobule Joseph Abshire, 97, who died at 6:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at Crowley Guest Home.
Father Jerry Siebold will officiate the services. Burial will be in St. John The Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point.
A rosary will be said Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. Tuesday until 10 p.m. and again on Wednesday beginning at 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Survivors include one son, L.J. Mr. Abshire retired from the State Department, was a member of the Woodman of the World and the Knights of Columbus here in the Crowley area.

IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Albert Juste Menou Sr., 84, who died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at 12:02 p.m. at Summit Hospital in Baton Rouge.
Fr. Jules Arceneaux will officiate for the services. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the services. A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include one son, Juste Menou Jr. and his wife Nannette of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Yvonne Bruchez of Iota and Andree Miller of New Orleans; and one grandson, Marshall W. Menou of Prairieville.
Mr. Menou was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 371 in Iota. He was employed at the Iota State School before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Euna Romain Menou; his parents, Jules and Julia Bourgeaux Menou, and numerous brothers and sisters.

Olevia Brown Spencer
Mrs. Olevia Brown Spencer, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002.
Ms. Spencer was born in Opelousas on Dec. 25, 1903 to Joseph Brown and Eller Scott Brown. She was a dedicated and long-time member of Israelite Baptist Church. She loved God and her church and worked tirelessly in many capacities in her church until her lengthy illness.
She was also a member of “Star of Hope Grand Chapter” Rice City No. 35, Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ivory Spencer and Yancy Spencer, both of Crowley.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Wesley Spencer and Joseph Spencer of Crowley and Sherman L. Spencer (Beatrice) of Fayetteville, Ga., two daughters, Julia R. Clues of Arnaudville and Sylvia R. Carrier (Louis) of Houston; 18 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Israelite Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Israelite Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ivan J. Lewis officiating.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at Indian Bayou Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
Helen Smith Magnon
Funeral services for Helen Smith Magnon, 69, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at Northside Assembly of God Church in Crowley with the Rev. Loyd Singley officiating. Mrs. Magnon died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at her residence in Crowley.
Mrs. Magnon served 13 years as a cook at the Woodworth Assembly of God campground during the summers. With that behind-the-scenes job, she was able to be an awesome witness for Christ and many lives were changed as a result. She lived her entire life serving others and making a tremendous impact on the lives of many children and young adults.
“Ms. Helen” spoke with pride when it came to her job as a wonderful wife and mother. She enjoyed that time in her life the most and she put her heart and soul into being the best wife possible to her husband and a loving mother to her two sons.
She is survived by her husband, Norice “Buddy” Magnon of Crowley; two sons, Keith J. Magnon of Crowley and Terry D. Magnon and his wife Pamela of Egan; two sisters, Gladys Golden of Big Lake and Margaret Needham of Everette, Wash.; and two brothers, Kenneth Smith of Hackberry and Dan Smith of Lake Charles.
Visitation will be at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

Joycelyn “Jo” Juneau
Funeral services for Mrs. Joycelyn “Jo” Juneau, 68, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at St. Michael Catholic Church.
The Rev. Ben Drapeau will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment
will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:30 until 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Juneau died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at her residence in Crowley.
Mrs. Juneau is the former Joycelyn Leonard and was born and raised in Cecilia. She was born Oct. 6, 1933.
Mrs. Juneau was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She served on the Notre Dame High School Board and as a teacher’s aide at that school.
She was very interested in the mechanics of the physical plants at Notre Dame and St. Michael Schools. She used to say that she probably painted each of the classrooms at least twice during her active periods.
At the time of her death, she was a member of the Pink Ladies Society at American Legion Hospital, Red Robbin Sewing Club and the Ladies Rosary Group.
Jo, as she was affectionately known, was employed by the Acadia Parish Clerk of Court where she served as a Deputy Clerk.
Survivors include her husband, James Byron “Jim” Juneau of Crowley; two sons, Brad Joseph Juneau and his wife Erin of Leesburg, Va., and Leonard Thomas Juneau and his wife Melody of Cumming, Ga.; two daughters, Lynne Juneau Ladwig and her husband Edward Ladwig of Dillon, Col., and Michelle Juneau Ruiz and her husband Patrick Ruiz of Suwanee, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Morgan Alisha Juneau-Ruiz, Mallary Elizabeth Juneau-Ruiz, Erikson Jon Ladwig, Katherine Afton Juneau, Emma Joycelyn Juneau, Will Hurren Juneau, Jacob Walker Juneau and Sarah Elizabeth Juneau.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Leonard, and her mother, Yola Guidry Leonard of Breaux Bridge; one brother, James Cecil Leonard; and her beloved son, James Byron Juneau II and his wife, Deborah Istre Juneau.

HAMMOND - Funeral services for Raymond Joseph Genre were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Mr. Genre died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.
He is survived by his wife, Roslyn Cuevas Genre of Hammond; four daughters, Maureen Mary Genre of Kawii, Hawaii, Susan Kay Tingle of West Monroe, Julie Burleigh of Crowley and Jeanine Scherer of Hammond; one son, Raymond J. Genre Jr. of Hammond; two sisters, Juliette Ellis of Baton Rouge and Corrine Clark of Walker; one brother, Vincent Genre of Port Vincent; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Anna Salassi Genre; five brothers, Nolan, Milburn, Joseph, Mike and Leon Genre; one sister, Anna Mae Henderson, and a grandchild, Adam Paul Burleigh.
A native of Cornerview, Mr. Genre was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired shipfitter, having been employed with Avondale for 20 years.
He was a member of the Hammond Volunteer Fire Department and was a former usher with Holy Ghost Catholic Church for 30 years.

ESTHERWOOD - Graveside services will be held today, Sunday, September 1, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Estherwood Cemetery for Wilbert “Jocko” J. Myers, 80, who died at 12:32 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Rev. F. David Broussard will officiate for the services. Sister Justina Baker, MHS, lead the recitation of the rosary on Saturday, August 31, at 6 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Elvina Sonnier Myers of Crowley; one sister, Amy Porter and her husband Bill of Shreveport; one step-daughter, Delores Melancon and her husband Mahlon of Crowley; two step-sons, Rodney Henry, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Lafayette, and Lercy Henry and his wife Patricia of Westlake; eight step-granchildren, Debbie, Roxanne, Stephanie, Julie, Brent, Damon, Angela and Amanda; 14 step-great grandchildren, Brandon, Stacy, Brooke, Kaleb, Kristen, Allyson, Katelyn, Meghan, Nickolas, Shelly, Alyssa, Bryant, Gage and Cole.; and, many nieces and nephews.

Glinder departed this life on August 27, 2002 at Christian Villa Nursing Home in Crowley, Louisiana.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Lena M. Byers of Crowley; six sisters, Ruth A Wilson of Crowley, Catherine Pitts and Geraldine LaCharity of Los Angeles, California, Johnetta Byers of Crowley, and Elaine George and Marlene Teate, both of Los Angeles California; two brothers, Carl Byers of Andover, Massachusetts and Marvin Byers of Los Angeles, California; two brothers-in-law, Jesse Wilson and Douglas Teate; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Byers and Jeanette Byers; and, a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Glinder was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Byers, Jr.

Hilda H. Carruth
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2002, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Hilda Hinckley Carruth, 97, who died on Wednesday, August 28, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Rev. Keith Derouen, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, officiated for the services. Interment
was held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Charenton, La.
Mrs. Carruth, a native of Charenton, was the daughter of the late Charles Hinckley and the former Ellen Sinitierre. She had been a resident of Lafayette for the past 30 years; moving there after her husband’s death in 1970. A retired librarian, Mrs. Carruth finished high school in LeCompte, La., and went on to receive her teaching certificate from the Louisiana Normal in Natchitoches. She later received her undergraduate degree, her Master of Library Science degree, thereby completing her educational coursework from Louisiana State University. She was a former librarian at Crowley High School and St. Joseph’s High School in Rayne. Her earliest teaching assignments were in Erath, Crowley and Egan. She was a member of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist parish.
Mrs. Carruth enjoyed many cultural activities and Genealogy. She was a devout Catholic and avid reader.
Mrs. Carruth is survived by her cousins and caregivers, Huey P. Hinckley of Lafayette and Evelyn Coleman Brown of Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and, her husband, Thomas Carruth.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Glen Mire, Nurse Dona Broussard, Dr. Ronald Jenkins, the nursing staff and co-workers at Our Lady of Lourdes, and Beulah S. Guidry, a neighbor and very dear friend. Thanks also to Sonya Buckner, Rose Samson, Hospice of Acadiana and Jimmie Joseph, who brought her communion on a daily basis.
