Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. at Forest Park Church of Christ for Zan Rayford “Ray” Trahan Sr., 55, who died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at 4:35 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
The Rev. Dan Smith and Rev. Antoine Valdetero will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Kye Hebert Cemetery
Visitation will be observed Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and noon until the time of service at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Delores M. Trahan of Roberts Cove; three sons, Zan Trahan and wife Beth of Iota, Shane Trahan and wife Christine of Branch and Donnie Trahan and wife Michele of Iota; four sisters, Lucille Murphy of Roberts Cove, Lydia Kibodeaux of Roberts Cove, Wilma Miller of Jennings and Lillie Notestien of Jennings; two brothers, William Trahan and E.J. Trahan of Roberts Cove; six grandchildren, Katie Trahan, Gretchen Trahan, John Michael Trahan, Alicia Trahan and Matthew Trahan, all of Iota, and Logan Trahan of Branch, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Trahan was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Suzie Ewing Trahan; one sister, Dorothy Simon, and three brothers, John, Lenis and Steve Trahan.

Betty Wheaton Abshire
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Betty Wheaton Abshire, 52, who died at 1:35 p.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
The Rev. Larry Evans will officiate the services. Visitation may be observed from 2 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Abshire of Crowley and Jammie Abshire James of Crowley; one son, Jonathan Smith of Crowley; a beloved companion, Steven Smith of Crowley; one sister, Mary Ann Trumps; two brothers, Carl Wheaton of Houston and Johnny Stevens of Midland, and one granddaughter, Amber Abshire of Crowley.
Mrs. Abshire is preceded in death by her parents, Audie and Nedric Stevens Wheaton; three brothers, George, Thomas and Audie Wheaton Jr., and one sister, Bonnie Smith.

Madeline Spell
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Madeline Spell, 85, of New Iberia who died Friday, October 11, 2002 at Azelia Villa Rehab Center. Burial will be in Indian Bayou United Methodist Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Aucoin of New Iberia, two sons, John C. Spell of Crowley and Thomas H. Spell, Sr. of Ridge, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A native of Crowley, she had been a resident of New Iberia for the past 13 years. Her hobbies were quilting, embroidery and crossword puzzles along with rocking her grandbabies.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Paul Aucoin I, Jeffery A. Aucoin, Richard Paul Counce, Bryan Paul Ardoin II, Thomas H. Spell, Jr. and Ricky Counce.

Abel Pousson
IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Abel Cerenick Pousson, 87, of Iota. He died Friday, October 11, 2002 at 11:55 a.m. at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Officiating for the funeral service will be Fr. David Broussard, pastor.
Mr. POusson was a retired equipment operator for the Southwest La. Developmental School in Iota.
Mr. Pousson is survived by his wife, Bernice Rachal Pousson of Iota, two sons, Fredrick Pousson of Iota and Gerald POusson of Morgan City, one daughter, Lorraine Deshotel of Evangeline, two brothers, Gaston Pousson of Angleton, Tx. and Edwin Pousson of Toledo Bend, one sister, Lovina Crenshaw of Houston, Tx., two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cerenick and Eleanor Richard Pousson.
Visitation will be observed from 8:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Monday. Interment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum in Iota. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 6 p.m. tonight.

Edith Murphy
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Edith Murphy, 86, who died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at Bayou Village Nursing Home in Crowley.
The Rev. Lloyd Singley will officiate for the funeral service.
Survivors include two sons, Julius Beard and wife Janelle of Crowley and Russell Beard and wife Mary of Crowley; six grandchildren, Patrick Beard of Buford, GA, Melanie Richard of Kaplan, Terry and Lloyd Beard of Crowley, Chad Beard of Egan and Edie Vela of Crowley; three great grandchildren, Kristie and Dylan Jagneaux and Whitney Beard; two sisters, Thelma Murphy of Crowley and Ethel Latiolais of Duson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edmond Murphy, and her mother, Esther Laughlin.

Mabel B. Martin
LAKE CHARES -- Mabel B. Martin, 77, of Crowley died Saturday, October 5, 2002 at her residence.
Mrs. Martin is a native of Branch, La and lived most of her life in Crowley. She was a member of the Maryland Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Branch, La.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce M. Vlorie of Lake Charles; one son, Tommy Martin of Lake Charles; three sisters, Orelia Johnson and Gaynell Robinson, both of Crowley, and Marilyn Scott of Hitchcock, Tx.,; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Union Zion Baptist Church. The Revs. Joseph Bernard and Jessie C. Banks, Sr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in Westlake.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Fay Trahan Hebert
MAURICE - Rosary and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Delhomme Funeral Home in Maurice for Fay Trahan Hebert,94, who died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette.
The Rev. John DeLeeuw will serve as celebrant of the funeral service.
Interment will take place at St. Alphonse Cemetery in Maurice.
A native of Crowley, Ms. Hebert was the daughter of the late Felix Trahan and the former Dupria Hebert. She was a dedicated lady to her rosary praying it forty times a day. Also, she was very dedicated to exercise daily. Her journal was very important to her, writing in it daily.
Survivors include one son, Ray Hebert and wife Joyce of Lafayette; three grandsons, Philip Hebert and wife Rachelle of Breaux Bridge, Paul Hebert and wife Suzanne of LaPlace and Marc Hebert and fiancé Kari Luna of Dallas; four great granddaughters, Tiffany, Britney, Jillian and Georgia Hebert; one adopted nephew, Larry Rose of Gonzales; one sister-in-law, Clothilde Trahan of Lafayette, and two sisters, Laura Foreman of Duson and Rose Jeffers of Port Neches, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Dupria Hebert; her husband, Eddie Hebert; two brothers, Eusebe and Dupre Trahan, and three sisters, Lorena Trahan, Namie simon and Celise Rose.
Visiting hours will be observed Saturday from 9 a.m. until the tie of the services.

BRANCH – Pearlie B. Harmon, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Christian Villa Nursing Home in Crowley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14 at Maryland Chapel C.M.E. in Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

Ovey ‘Boy’ Trahan
ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services for Ovey “Boy” Trahan, 71, of Estherwood will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Estherwood with Fr. Rusty Richard, pastor, officiating.
He died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at his daughter’s residence in Lake Charles.
Interment will be in the Estherwood Cemetery.
Trahan served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2130 in Lake Charles. He was also a member of Insulator and Asbestos Worker’s Local Union #112 in Lake Charles.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelia Trahan Screws and Dacia T. Duplechin, and a son, Dayne K. Trahan, all of Lake Charles; a sister, Irene T. Smith of Lake Charles, and a brother, Harold Trahan of Estherwood, and three granddaughters.
Visitation will be at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley from 8:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, and again from 8 a.m. until services on Sunday.
A rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at St. Theresa Catholic Church of Crowley for Ms. Nedra Bolden, 43, who died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Christian Villa Nursing Home in Crowley.
Burial will be in the South Crowley Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Sadlier officiating.
Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. the morning of the 10 a.m. service at the church.
She is survived by her mother, Rosetta Bolden of Crowley; her father, Leneal Bolden Sr. of Crowley; a daughter, Rashonda Bolden of Crowley; a son, Delvian Bolden of Crowley; a brother, Leneal Bolden Jr. of Crowley and two sisters, Jacqueline Adams and Nelwyn Bolden of Crowley.

Gatlin officiating. Funeral services will begin at 8 a.m. the morning of the service. Burial will be in the South Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

CROWLEY – Joseph Wilson Martin, 80, of Gena, died at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at LaSalle General Hospital in Gena. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 10 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Burial will be in the Istre Cemetery with Rev. Rodger Tarver officiating.

Robert Lee Broussard II
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley for Robert Lee Broussard II, 27, of Morse, who died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at West Jefferson Medical Hospital in New Orleans.
Burial will be in Hanks Cemetery in Morse with Fr. Joseph Greenwell officiating.
Visitation will be observed Thursday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and again on Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of the services.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Duhon Funeral Home in Crowley.
Survivors include his wife, Megan Broussard of Morse; three daughters, Taylor, Kristen and Kaylin Broussard of Morse; his parents, Roberts and Debra Broussard of Crowley; one sister, Rachel Broussard of Crowley, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Noris Penn of Crowley.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Fred Penn, and his paternal grandparents, Odey Broussard and Florence Dartez.
He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley for Mrs. Thelma M. Allen, 76, who died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley with Fr. Richard Sadlier officiating.
Funeral services will begin at 7 a.m. the day of the services at St. Theresa Catholic Church. A rosary will be said Friday morning at 9 a.m.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie Allen of Crowley; three daughters, Severia Lacy of Oakland, Calif. and Lavetta Boutte and Ruby Allen of Crowley; one granddaughter she reared, Marvel Oliver of Oakland, Calif.; four sons, Wallace Wilson of Huntersville, C.C., Orlando Wilson, Wilbert Wilson and Mack Wilson of Crowley; 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Wilson.

Ivy Schexnayder
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 3 p.m. in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Ivy Joseph Schexnayder, 79, who died Monday, October 7, 2002 at 6:07 a.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Rev. Wayland Gawthrop will officiate for the services and burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.Visitation will be observed today from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucy Touchet of Jennings, Linda Hanks of Crowley; one son, Kenneth Schexnayder of Crowley; three sisters, Eva Fontenot and Elve Jordan both of Crowley, Theresa Leger of Lafayette; one brother, Ibray Schexnayder of Scott; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Schexnayder was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the Army. He worked for Gielen Oil Company and Acadia Lumber Yard prior to his retirement.

Velma Cannon
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 10 a.m. in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Velma Sloane Laughlin Cannon, 86, who died at 12:55 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Bayou Village Nursing Home in Crowley.
Rev. Roger Tarver will officiate for the funeral services. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include one daughter, Juanita Laughlin Earles and her husband Kenneth Donald Earles, Sr. of Crowley; two grandchildren, Kenneth Donald Earles Jr and Nita D. Earles; five great-grandchildren, Kenneth Donald “Tiger” Earles, Sean Riley Earles, Beau Wager, Erica Wager and Sam Earles.
Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by two husbands, Donald R. Laughlin and Frank D. Cannon, her parents, Carl E. and Lillian Lusk Sloane, a daughter, Ruby Jeanette Laughlin and five sisters, Stella Vandewater, Ruby Laughlin, Dorothy Sloane, Wilma Sloane and Norma Sloane.

Ewel J. Latiolais
RAYNE - Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Ewel J. Latiolais, 72, who died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at his residence in Rayne.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2.
The Rev. Eugene Tremie, pastor of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and conduct the services.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Betty R. Miller Latiolais, of Rayne; one son, Gregory C. Latiolais and his wife Angelina V. Sherman Latiolais of Rayne; one sister, Leora Latiolais of Mire; one nephew, Sherald Glenn Latiolais and his wife Dana Latiolais of Mire; one niece, Janelle L. Bourgue of Rayne; mother-in-law, Marie B. Miller of Rayne.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Jude Latiolais; parents, Gaston and Della Latiolais; brother-in-law, Alvin Latiolais; father-in-law, Melvin Miller.
Mr Latiolais was a 1947 graduate of Rayne High School. He began his career after graduation by working at Fremeaux's Hardware & Implement Co., starting as a stock cleck and quickly being promoted to manager their hardware and appliance divisions.
In 1958, Mr. Latiolais left Fremeaux's to build and open the Rayne Skating Rink. He was owner and operator until 1963 when he sold the business and opened Latiolais Furniture and Appliance Co.
He built his final home in 1967 north of Rayne. Mr. Latiolais fulfilled his dream of retiring early in 1974. He traveled many times across the country and into Canada with his family, making new and dear friends along the way. Hungry for a new business venture, he opened his present business, E. Latiolais and Son Furniture Co. near his home in 1979.
Mr. Latiolais was very active in faith and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In addition, he served as a Pre-Marital Instructor, guiding young couples into their decision to marry and the importance of their sacramental commitment. Mr. Latiolais worked with groups including Evening For Parents, a program which increased awareness and senitivity to the needs of children from their parents from a Christian point of view. He also belonged to various prayer and study groups.
He was loved and respected, and will be missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne, 334-3141.

Iva Morgan Meaux
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Iva Morgan Meaux, 91, who died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, October 6, 2002, at the Rayne Guest House.
Reverend Ross Genger will officiate for the services.
Survivors include her sister, Eris M. Spell of Iowa, La.; 11 nieces and nephews, Pauline Smith, Bernice Ayo, Dolores Borel, Roberta Bourgeois, Ronald Cady, Marlene Miller, Peggy Roberts, Janie Morgan Charles Morgan, Claudette Ellis and Nevelyn Rutherford; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Almond Morgan and Eliza “Sissy” Morgan; her husband, Albert Meaux; four brothers, Bervic, Saddie, Zeke and Felix Morgan; and, one sister, Tessie.
Mrs. Meaux was a lifelong member of Indian Bayou Methodist Church. A school teacher in Indan Bayou for 38 years, she was a member of the Vermilion Parish Retired School Teachers Association and a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Indian Bayou First United Methodist Church.

CHURCH POINT – Gerald J. Richard, 64, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2002 at the Acadia St. Landry Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel of Church Point, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.

Mrs. Thelma Dement, 84, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette. A memorial service will be held at a later date under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley.

CHURCH POINT – Mrs. Donald Olivier, nee Sandra “Cookie” Quibodeaux, 40, died Saturday, October 5, 2002 at the Acadia St. Landry Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse W. Hoffpauir, Jr.
LAKE CHARLES - Jesse Wilbur Hoffpauir, Jr. died at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Hoffpauir was a native of Rayne, La. and lived in Lake Charles for the past thirty-eight years. He was a graduate of Rayne High School and was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #106. Mr. Hoffpauir worked for thirteen years at United Gas Co. and for the past fifteen years as a maintenance supervisor at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. He was owner and operator of the Neighbor Hood Bar. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Berken Hoffpauir of Lake Charles; one son, Michael Hoffpauir of Lake Charles; his father, Jesse Wilbur Hoffpauir, Sr. of Crowley; one brother, Glen Hoffpauir of Amarillo, Tx.; one sister, Brenda Hargrave of Rayne; and, two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Monsignor Ronnie Groth will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in St. Leo’s Cemetery at Roberts Cove under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. -10 p.m. on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A rosary was recited on Monday, October 7 at 7 p.m. followed by a Cursillo rosary at 8 p.m.

CHURCH POINT – Mrs. Howard Guidry, nee Rita Royer, 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

RAYNE – Larry Broom, 38, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at his home in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel of Rayne with Rev. Carl Cormier officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Scott.

RAYNE – Ella Seaux, 90, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 at 6 a.m. at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Bill Ruskoski officiating. Burial will be in Arceneaux Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne. A rosary will be said Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

RAYNE - Adam Easton Hargrave, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Lafayette. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in the Gossen funeral Home Chapel. Entombment was in Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan. Gossen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SCOTT – Walter Peter Boutin Sr., 61, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at his residence in Duson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. Duhon Funeral Home in Rayne is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCH POINT – Albert Handy Jr., 80, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at 2:35 a.m. at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Burial will be in the old church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

CHURCH POINT – Harry McBride, 94, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church.

MERMENTAU – Johnnie “Mac” Viator, 60, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 at 6:45 p.m. Lafayette General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings. Burial will be in the Mermentau Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings.

Sallie P. Bailey
GEORGIA - Recitation of the rosary for Sallie P. Bailey, 75, of Athens, formerly of Crowley, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Pacress as celebrant.
Mrs. Bailey passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens.
She was born April 9, 1927 to the late Paul Morris and Elizabeth Hanna Hodges Poole.
Mrs. Bailey, the former Sallie Chappuis of Crowley and San Antonio, was a resident of Athens since 1995, a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens, and an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband, Jack N. Bailey of Athens; her daughters, Michele C. Keigley of Austin, Sarah C. Brown of Brownwood, Stephanie C. Keigley of Crowley and Mary T. Chappuis of Baton Rouge; one step-son, Danny L. Bailey of Winston Salem, N.C.; a step-daughter, Diana L. Watts of San Angelo; a sister, Mary C. Manning; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
If desired, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a library of your choice.
Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
