RAYNE – Nolan “Popeye” Istre, 87, of Ridge died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Dorothy ‘Dot’ Guidry Thibodeaux
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Dorothy “Dot” Guidry Thibodeaux, 71, of Crowley, who died at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, following a bout with Alzheimer’s.
Geesey-Ferguson of Crowley is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from noon to 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
She lived life to the fullest, loved serving Jesus through the church, and was a friendly, loving person who touched many lives as a very compassionate and generous person. But most of all, she loved being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Nicrest “Nick” Thibodeaux of Crowley; three daughters, Bonnie Leeper and husband Mike of Crowley, Bernadette Vincent and husband Hulin “Tunny” of Lafayette and Georgette Gaspard and husband Kenneth of Baton Rouge; seen grandchildren, Terry and Christian Leeper of Crowley, Nicholas Vincent of Crowley, Nicole and Breann Vincent of Lafayette, and Jeneé and Joselyn Gaspard of Baton Rouge; one great granddaughter, Page Alexis Vincent of Crowley; and a brother, Rene Guidry of Crowley.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lovenia Duhon of Baton Rouge; her father, Martin Guidry of Crowley, and her mother, Benita Bertrand of Crowley.
She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was a past president of the Altar Society and the local American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Auxiliary Pink Ladies, Council on Aging and the Elder Physical Fitness Group.
Dorothy will be missed by family and friends, but loving memories of her will never be forgotten.

Chad Anthony “Holyfield” Hoffpauir
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 27, at 11 a.m. at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Chad Anthony “Holyfield” Hoffpauir, 27, who died at 8:07 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2003 at his residence in Crowley.
The visitation was observed Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until service time.
Burial was in the Indian Bayou Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Luke Bellard of Crowley; his mother, Jeanelle H. Weekly of Crowley; his fiancee’, Amanda Lynn Swearingen of Crowley; one sister, Rhonda Hoffpauir of Iota; one brother, Brett Hoffpauir of Crowley; his grandmother, Helen Harrington; and, three nephews, Jade Trahan of Iota, and Caleb and Carlin Hoffpauir, both of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael C. Hoffpauir.

CHURCH POINT – Mark Joseph Bourque, 39, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at his residence in Church Point. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 24, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

MIRE – Mrs. Anna Mae Prejean Mire, 89, died at 4:13 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at her home in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Assumption Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Dwayne Kimble Dronet
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at 2p.m. in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Dwayne Kimble Dronet, 20, who died Sunday, February 23, 2003 at his residence in Crowley.
Rev. Joe Talhelm will officiate for the services. Visitation began on Monday, February 24, 2003 from 2-10 p.m., and will continue on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will be in the Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan.
He is survived by one daughter, Cierra Dronet of Crowley; one son, Gabriel K. Dronet of Crowley; his parents, Joseph and Debra Stutes Miller of Kaplan; his fiancee’, Kellie R. Lanthier of Crowley; three sisters, Dana Villejoin and Dell Brown, both of Kaplan, and Delana Gaspard of Rayne; and, three brothers, Damon Dronet of Crowley, and Justin Miller and Arthur James Monceaux, both of Kaplan.

CROWLEY - Anita Meyers, 94, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at her residence in Crowley. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at St. Theresa Catholic Church with burial in South Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

Judy Mott Lejeune
IOTA - Funeral services for Judy Mott Lejeune, 60, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota.
The Rev. David Broussard will officiate for the services. A rosary will be prayed at noon Sunday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Sunday.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota.
Mrs. Lejeune died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in Opelousas.
She is survived by three sisters, Joyce Fruge of Baytown, Texas, Gloria Miller of Opelousas, and Dee Olivier of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester F. Lejeune; her parents, Cleve and Inez Ledoux Mott; and one brother, Darrel Mott.

CHURCH POINT - Wilson Joseph Luquette, 89, of Church Point died at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Abbeville Church of Christ in Abbeville with burial in the Landry Cemetery in Erath under the direcdtion of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Eunice B. Legnon
ROBERTS COVE - Funeral services for Eunice B. Legnon, 97, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, St. Leo Catholic Church.
Visitation was Saturday from 2 until 10 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until service time. A Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Legnon died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at the Rayne Guest Home.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law Henry L. and Jeanne Guidry Legnon of Lafayette; two daughters, Elizabeth L. Thibodeaux of Rayne, and Marie L. and her husband Lawrence Habetz of Roberts Cove; one sister Eloise “Chic” Judice of Lafayette.
Mrs Legnon is also survived by her grandchildren, Donald L. Thibodeaux, Rebecca Miller, Josette Melanson, Ann Smith, Michael Thibodeaux, Kathy Ghaly, Hope H. Hoffpauir, Brian L. Habetz, Fara H. Boudreaux, Joel L. Habetz, Lawrence J. Habetz II, and Wayland Guidry; her great-grandchildren, Joshua L. Hoffpauir, Zachary S. Hoffpauir, Sara Habetz, Logan Habetz, Annie Marie Boudreaux, Camille Ida Boudreaux, Blake Veazey, Hanah Veazey, Tonya Doucet, Casey Guidry, Dustin Guidry, Todd Miller, Blaine Thibodeaux, Aaron Thibodeaux, Ashley Thibodeaux, Shawn Thibodeaux, Brady Duplantis, Christy Duplantis, Nicole Thibodeaux, M.J. Thibodeaux, Jonathon Smith, Michael Thomas, Lauren Ghaly; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Legnon was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Henry Louis Legnon Sr.; her parents, Ophe and Aurlien Duhon Broussard; one brother Gilbert Broussard; six sisters, Marie Mouchet, Eva B. Kirsch, Cecile B. Arnold, Rose B. Arnold, Electa B. Theriot and Francis B. Jaques.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Donald L Thibodeaux, Michael Thibodeaux, Brian L. Habetz, Joel L. Habetz, Lawrence J. Habetz II, Wayland Guidry Clark Hoffpauir, and Benjamin Boudreaux. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
Burial will be in the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Patsy Blanchard Simon
ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services for Patsy Blanchard Simon, 57, of Estherwood will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at St. Margaret Catholic Church with Msgr. Paul Metrejean officiating. Mrs. Simon died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at her residence in Estherwood. Interment will be in Estherwood Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Simon of Estherwood; two daughters, Lori Henry and her husband Marcus of Estherwood and Denise Wolf of Germany; a son, Blaine Koch and his wife Rachel of Crowley; a sister, Shirleen LeJeune and her husband Lee of Estherwood; and five grandchildren, Trisha Henry, Miles and Ben Koch and Alex and Ryan Wolf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Eula Mae Breaux Blanchard.
Visitation will be observed from 3 p.m. Thursday until services Saturday. A rosary will be recited at the funeral home Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church mausoleum in Lawtell under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

RAYNE - Morris Touchet, 86, of Rayne, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at a his residence. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery in Mire. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc., of Rayne.

LAWTELL – Charles Conrade Boudreaux, 55, of Crowley died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at the Crowley Guest House. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

RAYNE – Wanda Mae Terro Jeanise, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at her home in Rayne. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in the #2 church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Alex “Petie” Bertrand Jr.
RAYNE - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Alex “Petie” Bertrand Jr., 34, who died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 Mausoleum.
Survivors include his mother, Brenda Smith and husband Bob, of Crowley; birth father, Alex Bertrand Sr. and wife Donna of Crowley; four brothers, Thad Berken and Ron Berken Jr. of Crowley, Eric Berken of Philadelphia, Pa., and Reggie Berken of Iota; three sisters, Wendy Berken and Yvette Arceneaux of Rayne, and Julie Morton of Crowley; three step-brothers, Blaine Hebert and Marcus Hebert of Crowley and Blaine Smith of Mermentau; two step-sisters, Dinah Hebert of Crowley and Alyassa Smith, of New Iberia; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Credeur of Rayne; paternal grandmother, Anna Belle Bertrand of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reinhard John Berken Sr.; grandparents Casper and Thelca Berken; and paternal grandfather, Alex Bertrand.
The family request that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m Thursday.

Evelyn Abshire Leleux
Funeral services for Evelyn Abshire Leleux, 90, of Crowley will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Gary Schexnayder, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Leleux died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at her residence.
She is survived by two sons, Rodless Leleux of Crowley and Roland Leleux and his wife Mary of Crowley; a brother, Gerald Abshire Sr. of Kaplan; seven grandchildren, Sharon Romero of Kaplan, Patrick, Glenn, Marcus and Donna Leleux, and Greta Fruge, all of Crowley, and Roland John Leleux Jr. of England; seven step-grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominique Leleux; a son, Rodney Leleux; a brother, Melcha Abshire; a sister, Aline Abshire; and a grandson, Shelby Leleux.
Visitation will be observed fro 2:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point.

Donald Ray Perry
VINTON - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Hixson Memorial Chapel for Donald Ray Perry, 69, who died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at his residence.
Perry was a native of Ebenezer and a resident of Vinton. He was in the Pipefitter Union Local 106 and an Army veteran. His parents are Asa A. Perry and Oris F. Perry.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Perry of Vinton; five children, Suzanne Gibbs of Starks, Penelope Courville of Johnson Bayou, Donnie Perry of Nederland, Texas and Timothy Perry and Christopher Perry, both of Vinton; three sisters, Vivian McFarlin of Crowley, Violet Gaspard of Indian Bayou and Mary Dell Sykora of El Campo, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson Perry and Calvin Perry.
Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery with Rev. Ruth Burtch officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

BRANCH – Josephine Hornsby Harmon, 91, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Crowley Guest House. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Elizabeth Memorial Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

CHURCH POINT – Alberta Handy Wilridge, 93, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

RAYNE – Kathryn (Babe) Smart, 63, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley. A memorial service will be held at a later date. No visitation hours will be observed and no burial will take place. Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne is in charge of arrangements.

ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at St. Margaret Catholic Church for Dominic Guillory Jr., 75, who died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Visitation was held Sunday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Rev. Rusty Richard officiated the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in the Estherwood Cemetery.
He is survived by one daughter, Wynette Erbelding and her husband James of Johnson Bayou; one son, Darrell Guillory and his wife Shirley of Estherwood; two brothers, Gilbert Guillory of Morse and T.L. Guillory of Crowley; two sisters, Geneva Fontenot of Estherwood and Jeanette Hanks of Eunice; six grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Ashley, Jammie, Tammy and James; and three great grandchildren, Sabur, Searrah and Richard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Herbertine Guillory; his wife, Genieve Blanchard Guillory; one brother, M.L. Guillory, and one sister, Lauren Redlich.

James Royce Henry
KAPLAN - Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Vincent Funeral Home Chapel for James Royce “Pee-Tee” Henry, 60, who died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at his residence in Kaplan.
Burial was in Kaplan Cemetery with Rev. Kendal Faulk officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Henry of Kaplan; one daughter, Mary Ann and her husband Tony Henry of Kaplan; three sisters, Florence Meyers of Kaplan, Elizabeth Schexnider of Kaplan and Rose Abshire of Pecan Island; three grandchildren, Kristin René, Keri Lynn and Kylie Paige Hebert, all of Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dugas Henry and the former Octavine Broussard, and one brother, Clifford Henry Sr.
Visitation was observed Saturday from 4 p.m. until the services on Monday afternoon under the direction of Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan.

KAPLAN - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2003, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church for Electa M. Lormand, 86, who died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2003, at the East Ridge Nursing Center in Abbeville.
Reverend Donald Theriot will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in the Kaplan Cemetery.
Visitation begins today, Sunday, February 16, from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m., and continues on Monday, February 17 from 9 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Decuir of Abbeville and Barbara Menard of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Lormand; a son, Francis Lormand; and, six brothers, Esidor, Lennis, Sidney, Ejus, Essie and Eldes Morvant.

JENNINGS - Hugh Ortego, Sr., age 77, died Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17 at 10 a.m. at the Matthews and Son Funeral Home, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.

Allie Reed Butaud
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2003, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Allie Reed Butaud, 91, who died Friday, February 14, 2003, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.
Father Gary Schexnayder officiated for the services. Burial was held in Reed Cemetery in Basile.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Thomas R. Butaud of Opelousas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.J. Butaud; her parents, Thomas and Louise Ortego Reed; and, one brother, B.P. Reed. Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley, 301 N. Avenue F, was in charge of arrangements.

Francis W. “Buster” Clark
GUEYDAN -- Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2003 at St. Peter the Apostle Church for Francis W. “Buster” Clark, 77, who died at 10:48 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Burial will be in the Gueydan Cemetery with the Vermilion Honor Guard performing military honors.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13 from 2-10 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m., and on Friday, February 14 from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Mr. Clark is survived by three sons, Wiley J. “Butch” Clark of Kaplan, Jerry W. Clark of Morse and Wade Clark of Gueydan; a daughter, Judy Clark Menard of Lafayette; two brothers, Bufford Joseph Clark of Lake Arthur and Walter Clark Jr. of Gueydan; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Clark, Sr. and the former Rebecca Lepretre; his wife, Louella Conner Clark; a sister, Wilda Clark Meaux; and, an infant son, John Clark.
Mr. Clark was a United States Navy veteran, having served during World War II.
Pall bearers will be Wallace “Shing” Lepretre, Famon Todd Bonin, Heath Garrett Clark, Blake Ezra Clark, Slade Adlar Clark and Matthew Brignac. Honorary pallbearers will include Eric Giles Robicheaux and Jessica Lynn Clark.

Mildred W. Whitley
ALABAMA - Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 14, for Mildred W. Whitley, 79, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Baptist Monclair Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. following a lengthy illness.
She was born the only child of Raymond and Lorena Fontenot Wilson on June 15, 1923 in Crowley.
Mildred worked many years for South Central Bell while living in Crowley. She met her present husband, Hoyt B. “Eli” Whitley, and transferred to Birmingham and retired in August of 1986.
She loved life to the fullest, loved to travel, never met a stranger, and most of all, loved her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Hoyt “Eli” Whitley of Branchville, Ala.; two daughters, Marguerite Mouton and her husband Ray of Youngsville and Elizabeth Robinson and her husband Daniel of Odenville, Ala.; one son, Raymond Quibodeaux and his wife Susan of Crowley; six grandchildren, Coy Quibodeaux of Lafayette, Audrey Quibodeaux of Lafayette, Tiffany Robinson of Utah, Shane and James Robinson of Odenville, Ala. and Andrea Quibodeaux of Crowley, and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Felix “Red” Quibodeaux.
Pallbearers will be Coy Quibodeaux, Aubrey Quibodeaux, Shane Robinson, James Robinson, Ray Mouton and Hubert Olivier III.
Kilgore Funeral Home in Leeds, Ala. is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Helena Abshire Richard, 84, who died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at 6:40 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Fr. Joseph Greenwell will officiate for the services. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Burial will be in Abshire Cemetery.
Visitation was observed Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Frank of Houston and Marie Campbell of Texas City, Texas; one sister, Gladys Babineaux of Sulphur; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Richard is preceded in death by her husband, Venonce Richard; her parents, Columbus and Onezia Hanks Abshire; three brothers, Ivenel, Obray and Ozar “Tee-Tee” Abshire; and two sisters, Edmay Hebert and Dean Fontenot.

Mrs. Faye Dupont
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Faye Dupont, 45, who died Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Burial will be in Abshire Cemetery in rural Kaplan. A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Visitation was observed Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and continued Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Dupont of Crowley; two sons, Brent Dupont of Houma and Calvin Dupont of Crowley; one daughter, Shirley Dupont of Crowley; her father, Murphy Roy Sr. of Crowley; two sisters, Cheryl Guidry and Jody Laughlin, both of Crowley; two brothers, Marvin Roy and Murphy Roy Jr., both of Crowley; and three grandchildren, Dicie, Brentlyn and Jacob.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Roy.
Mrs. Dupont was a bingo player and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Council 5499 of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Euella Mae Abshire, 71, of Crowley who died Monday, Feb. 10, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.

Frances Jennings Van Fosson
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 15, at the First Presbyterian Church in Crowley for Frances J. Van Fosson, 83, who died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2003, following a long bout with congestive heart problems.
Following the memorial service, a “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Van Fosson residence.
Mrs. Van Fosson donated her body to Tulane University for Medical research in honor of her grandfather who received his medical degree from the university.
Rev. Roger M. Brown and Rev. Dr. Wilmer McNair will officiate. Rev. Jimmy Broussard will be the organist/soloist.
She was born Frances Hamilton Jennings in 1919 in Starkville, Mississippi.
After growing up in Grenada and Holly Springs, Ms, she worked in Mississippi and Alabama. While working in Montgomery, Alabama, she met Ralph Van Fosson.
As a resident of Crowley for 54 years, she served in many positions of leadership and service in many community organizations, including the Three-Ten Club, the Crowley Woman’s Club, and the Acadiana Duplicate Bridge Association, where she had achieved the level of Life Master. She was an elder and loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was a loving wife for 54 years, until the death of her husband, Ralph. She is survived by two daughters, Katrina Van Fosson of Baton Rouge, Marjorie Harral and her husband, John, of Gulfport, Ms.; two sons, Ralph Van Fossen, Jr. and his wife Frances of Mobile, Al., and Charles Judson Van Fosson of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Alyse H. Harral Stevens and husband, Alan, of Atlanta, Ga., Jessica W. Harral of Atlanta, Ga., Ashley V. Wright of Baton Rouge, and Ryan M. Wright of Baton Rouge; two step-grandchildren, Angela L. Hartley and her husband Tony of Mobile, Al., and Ray Lee of Mobile, Al.; and, seven great step-grandchildren.

Margaret R. Shuptrine
Margaret R. Shuptrine, 43, the former Margaret R. Brucato, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at her residence in Carencro.
Survivors include her husband, Mike “Bubba” Shuptrine of Carencro; four sons, Dustan, Skylar, Heath, and Tyler, all of Carencro; her father, Frank R. Brucato; mother-in-law, Mary Hansley; and one sister, Linda Durbin and her husband Dale of Carencro.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jennie L. Perry; paternal grandparents, Andrew and Francis Brucato; maternal grandparents, Margaret and Allen Perry; her father-in-law, William Jimmy Shuptrine; and her uncles, Breaux Perry, Willie Perry, Leon Perry, Flossie Cooper and Perry Cousins.
A native of Huntington, W.Va., and resident of Lafayette most of her life, Mrs. Shuptrine will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
She was a friendly, loving person who touched many lives and was very compassionate, generous and humorous.
Mrs. Shuptrine was a member of the Valvardie Baptist Church of Groves, Texas.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Comeaux Istre
Funeral services for Patricia “Pat” Comeaux Istre, 55, of Crowley will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Steffes officiating. Mrs. Istre died at 10:04 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at her residence in Crowley. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Pat was a long time cafeteria manager at Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish. She enjoyed being with her family and especially her granddaughters. She fought a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Carlton J. Istre of Crowley; her mother, Florabelle Terro Comeaux of Crowley; one son, E.P. Istre and his wife Heidi of Crowley; one daughter, Michelle I. Thevis and her husband Daniel of Crowley; two brothers, Donald Comeaux and his wife Judy of Crowley and Dale Comeaux and his wife Rose of Highlands, Texas; two granddaughters, Onica and Katie Istre, both of Crowley; a brother-in-law, Mason Istre and his wife Edith of Fresno, CA; two uncles, Wilbert Terro and Elwood Terro and his wife Alma, all of Crowley; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Nelson Comeaux, and a son, Shane Istre.

Curley Paul Pousson
IOTA - Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Curley Paul Pousson, 82, who died Monday, Feb. 3, at 4:07 p.m. at Crowley American Legion Hospital.

Curley was born June 18, 1920 in Iota. He was a farmer and served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Lylan L. “Bud” Seilhan
Lylan L. "Bud" Seilhan passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, Calif., after a valiant two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Bud, 70 years old, was born in Iota and was quite proud of his Cajun heritage.
A Korean War veteran, he served four years in the Navy aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Badger, one of the first U.S. ships to visit Japan after World War II. He sailed as a radioman during the vessel’s historic round-the-world goodwill voyage.
Prior to joining the Navy, Bud married his childhood sweetheart, Mitzie Myers, also from Louisiana. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
After his discharge from the Navy, Bud went to work for Marsh & Marine, a manufacturing company in Houston, Texas, and quickly rose to become vice president of the company.
Upon retiring from Marsh & Marine, Bud co-founded Brantner/Seacon, a company specializing in the design and manufacture of underwater electrical and optical connectors. The firm, headquartered in El Cajon, Calif., has operations and offices worldwide.
Although semi-retired, Bud remained active as Chairman of the Board with business operations being managed in partnership with his brother and son.
Bud was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with his extended family. He was also active with the Volunteer Deputy Sheriffs Patrol in Poway, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, four children, eleven grandchildren and two brothers.
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary in Poway, Calif.
Although the disease robbed him of his speech early on, Bud was a gentle "vocal" advocate in the fight against ALS through his determination, persuasive smile, beautiful blue eyes and enthusiastic deeds. This past October, he served as “Official Family Grand Martial.” riding his American flag-theme scooter at the head of a 38-member-strong “Bud’s Bunch Team,” in the First Annual San Diego “Walk to D’feet ALS” fund-raiser.

Born in Parsons, Kansas, Rev. Hataway served 26 years in the military and received a B.A. and M.A. from Phillips University in Enid, Okla. He retired as a chaplin in the United States Army in 1969 as a lieutenant colonel. He served with the 70th Infantry in the European Theater in World War II, with the 45th in Korea and the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. After retirement from the military he continued to serve as a minister at the First Christian churches in both Crowley and Hammond. He retired from ministry in 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Philip Zaunbrecher; two sons, Edmond and Raymond Zaunbrecher; a grandson, Dwayne Zaunbrecher; and a great grandchildren, Jeffery McKoin.
Mrs. Zaunbrecher was born Nov. 5, 1908 in Frey and resided in Gueydan for 63 years. She will be remembered as a living devoted mother, great friend and an outstanding one-of-a-kind grandmother.Mrs. Zaunbrecher was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Ladies Altar Society of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Gueydan.

Cyrus J. Broussard Sr., 74 of Beaumont passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Graveside services will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A native of Morse, Mr. Broussard was a longtime resident of Beaumont. Prior to a career in water pipe supply and sales, he served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in Beaumont.
He is survived by one daughter, Margaret L. Farris, of Dallas; two sons, Cyrus J. Broussard Jr., and his wife Vicki, of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Jason M. Broussard and his wife Nan, of Beaumont; one daughter, Melissa A. Cherry, of Beaumont; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Dorsey Lagneaux of Opelousas, Leland Jagneaux of Church Point and John Olivier of Gonzales; three daughters, Lydia Olivier of Gonzales, Lela Ashlock of Mississippi and Priscilla Popp of Ft. Worth, Texas; 19 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; three stepsons, Gary Stout of San Antonio, Tom Stout of Iota and Larry Stout of Eunice; and four stepdaughters, Gwen Stout of Eunice, Mary Miller of Eunice, Romona Stein of San Antonio and Lora Fontenot of Eunice.
Mrs. Oliver is preceded in death by three husband, Enos Jagneaux, Oscar Olivier and Clint Stout; her parents, Albert and Ezora Richard Lavergne; one daughter, Yola Braud; four brothers and three sisters.

Fred D. Moffitt
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Fred D. Moffitt, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his residence in Spartanburg, S. C.
He was the son of the late Fred D. Moffitt Sr. and Anna Connelly Moffitt. Reared in New Orleans, he attended Tulane University and entered the U.S. Army in July of 1944. He engaged in combat in the European Theater with the Seventh Army under command of General Patch. He was in the 63rd Infantry Division and received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for Bravery in combat. His company also joined the Free French under the command of General de Lattre de Tassigny, of Indo-China fame, for which he received an award of the American Order of the French Croix de Guerre.
Mr. Moffitt was publisher of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal from 1971 until his retirement in 1980. He was active in civic duties, one of which was to spearhead the Urban Rehabilitation Program, under the direction of Mayor Neville Holcombe in the 1950’s. He continued to be involved in many civic activities until his retirement and was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Laurie Fontenot Moffitt, originally of Crowley; three children, John F. Moffitt of Roanoke, VA, Judith Moffitt Clark of Clifton Forge, VA. and William A. Moffitt of Spartanburg; and grandchildren, Miranda Anne Moffitt of San Francisco, John F. Moffitt Jr. of Orange County, CA., Christopher Baker Clark, Granham Patterson Clark and Suzanne Fontenot Clark, all of Clifton Forge, VA.
Crypside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. Michael Vandiver and the Rev. Sam Poston.

Funeral services for Eva Spencer Guidry, 69, of Crowley will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Northside Assembly of God Church with Rev. Loyd Singley, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Guidry died at 5:27 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
She is survived by two daughters, Gail Comeaux and her husband Edward and Judy Abshire and her husband Richard, all of Crowley; four brothers, Douglas and Donald Ray Spencer of Memphis, Tenn., Ollie “Junior” Spencer of Birmingham, Ala. and Wayne Spencer of Alton, Il.; six sisters, Neva Nix, Helen Hollis, Edith Hanna and Betty Smith, all of West Memphis, AR, Lorene McCain of Baton Rouge and Jewel Roley of Murfressboro, Tenn.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Allen Guidry; her parents, Ollie and Esther Hunt Spencer; and a sister.
Visitation will be observed from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley is in charge of arrangements.

GUEYDAN – Lorena Pego Istre, 90, died at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Jennings American Legion Hospital. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial was in the Gueydan Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan.

Mrs. Keshon Theriot Cormier
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Keshon Theriot Cormier, 19, of Morse who died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, as a result of an auto accident in Acadia Parish.
Visitation will be observed from Saturday at 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Sunday.
Burial will be in the LeBlanc Cemetery in Mermentau with Rev. Waylin Vincent officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Paul Cormier of Morse; one son, Brylan Cormier of Morse; and three brothers, Ray Kibodeaux of Orange, Texas, Carlos Miller of Mermentau and Randy Theriot of Estherwood.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Logan Theriot and Sylvia Kibodeaux, and two sisters, Lela Pinson and Sue Kibodeaux.
She was a graduate of Midland High School.
Pallbearers are Ray Kibodeaux, Randy Theriot, John Cormier Jr., Carlos Miller, Rob Pinson and Kye Pinson.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Curtis Roy Andrepont
IOTA - Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at 1 p.m. (pending) at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mrs. Curtis Roy Andrepont, 74, who died Wednesday, Jan. 29, at East Houston Medical Center.
Fr. David Broussard will officiate for the services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. (pending) Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation may be observed Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Monday.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis McDaniels of Kaplan and Janice Hebert of Westlake; one son, Donald Andrepont of Sulphur; two brothers, Dudley Roy Sr. and Leon Roy Sr., both of Iota; five grandchildren, Joseph “Tee” Roy III of Kaplan, Michelle Broussard of Gueydan, Chad Carpenter of Moss Bluff, Jeremy Carpenter of Westlake and Leigh Anne Andrepont of Sulphur; and three great grandchildren, Sydney, Christian and Dakota Broussard of Gueydan.
Mrs. Andrepont is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. “Andy” Andrepont; her parents, Joseph and Ida Romine Roy; and one sister, Louise Henson.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Iota is in charge of arrangements.
