Faye Elizabeth Hammons
Mrs. Faye Elizabeth Hammons, age 88, of Lake City, Fla. died Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, Fla. following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hammons was a native of Wellborn, Fla. and had resided in Lake City, Fla. most of her life. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Mae Powers Busby and widow of the late O.W. "Pete" Hammons. She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church, Lake City, Fla.
Survivors include her son, G. Wayne (Delores) Hammons of Durango, Colorado: One sister, Dorothy Ray Owens of Branford, Fla.: Four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Hammons was preceded in death by her son, W. Dale Hammons.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Davis, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating and assisted by Rev. Charles Knight, Pastor of the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Fla.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 South First Street, Lake City, Fla.

Gloria Ugarte McNab
Mrs. Gloria Ugarte McNab, 88, resident of Wellborn, Florida, died Monday, January 17, 2000, in the Suwannee Healthcare Facility, Live Oak, following a long illness.
Mrs. McNab was born January 13, 1912, in Key West, Florida, to Antonio and Serafina Ugarte. She owned and operated a restaurant in Key West during World War II. Mrs. McNab moved to Miami in 1945 to work as a seamstress, and later as a P. B. X. operator for Flagler Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church, Miami, for twenty-five years. She loved the Lord and enjoyed her church activities, and cooking for church dinners. Mrs. McNab traveled extensively, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making her own clothes.
Survivors include; Two sons, Al (Carolyn) Estevez of Wellborn, and Danny (Violet) Estevez, of Tampa. Twelve grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at 2:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Rev. Hugh Dampier, officiating. Interment will follow in Wellborn Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, January 18, 2000, from 6 to 8 P.M., at the funeral home.

Mary Nell Ward
Mrs. Mary Nell Ward, age 56, died Saturday, January 15, at Shands at Lake Shore Hospital, Lake City after an extended illness.
Born July 28, 1943 in Cross City, Flori-da, Mrs. Ward, a Baptist was a resident of Lake City for 30 years.
Mrs. Ward was a homemaker who loved to go fishing and loved gardening in her spare time. Her specialty was cultivating roses. Mrs. Ward was a deeply devoted parent and grandparent. She will be greatly missed by her family especially her companion of 15 years, Prissy, her dog.
Her husband of 30 years, Anthony Sr. survives Mrs. Ward. Also surviving are two sons Anthony Ward Jr. with Kat, and Travis Ward with Missy both of Lake City, one daughter Tammy Sowards with husband Victor of Lake City, three brothers Buddy White of Gainesville who was her twin, Ira White, and Lavon White with wife Diane both of Lake City, two sisters Jeannette Fletcher and Jewel Humphrey with husband Bugsy both of Lake City, and four grandchildren Kevin, Chelsea, Victoria, and Brandon. Mrs. Ward had many wonderful nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
The family will receive friends and neighbors for a visitation, Tuesday, January 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Costanzo Funeral Home. A service will take place, Wednesday, January 19 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Hwy. 441 North, Lake City at 1 p.m., Pastor James Roberts presiding.

Elton Wilson Dicks
Mr. Elton Wilson Dicks, age 81, of Lake City, Fla. died Thursday, Jan. 27, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla. following an extended illness.
Mr. Dicks was a native of Lake City, Fla. and had resided in Jacksonville, Fla. for 27 years before moving back to Lake City in 1975. He was the son of the late James R. and Dollie Robinson Dicks and was a licensed life insurance agent with Prudential Life Insurance Company, Jacksonville, Fla. for 27 years until his retirement in 1975. After returning to Lake City he was engaged in farming and raising cattle on his farm.
Mr. Dicks was a member of the Hopeful Baptist Church of Lake City, Fla. and an Army veteran of W.W. II.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille E. Dicks of Lake City, Fla.; two sons, Dennis D. Dicks of Lake City, Fla. and Galen D. (Joan) Dicks of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; one sister, Myrtle Johnson of Wrightsville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Evelyn Dicks and Sara Dicks both of Green Cove Springs, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, Jan. 30, in the Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Reed, Associate Pastor, officiating and assisted by Rev. Eric Colley, Minister of Youth and Education. Interment will be in Hopeful Cemetery, Columbia County, Fla. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday, Jan. 29, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 South First Street, Lake City, Fla.

Walter Paul Dries Jr.
Walter Paul Dries Jr., age 57, died Thursday, January 27th, at VA Medical Center of Lake City.
Mr. Dries was a resident of Lake City for two years having moved from Patterson, New Jersey. A Christian, Mr. Dries was a truck driver in the freight industry and an Army veteran who served in Germany in WWII. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and family members will remember him as a wonderful storyteller.
His father Walter Sr. and his brother Allen preceded Mr. Dries in death.
Surviving Mr. Dries are his wife Almyrtis; his mother Glady of Patterson, NJ; daughters Tammy of Hudson, FL, Jamie of Deerfield Beach, FL; one stepdaughter Alberta Rodgers of Lake City; four brothers Robert, Dennis, Kevin, and Gary all of Patterson, NJ; three sisters Ronnie, Lorraine, and Gail all of Patterson, NJ; numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Nathaniel Reed, Sr.
Nathaniel Reed, Sr., age 44, resident of Lake City, Fla. died Saturday April 15, 2000 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. terminating a brief illness.
Born in Lake City, Fla. he was the son of Jessie Mae Reed and the late George Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Reed; two sons, Nathaniel Reed, Jr., and Daryl Reed, both of Lake City; seven sisters, Helen Reed (Joe), Janie Reed, Linda Reed, Deborah Reed, Beverly Reed, and Rhonda Reed, all of Lake City, Theresa Bell (Frank), of Adel, Ga.; four brothers, Tommy Reed (Loretta), Jeffery Reed (Lisa), Larry Reed and Donald Reed, all of Lake City, Fla.
Funeral services for Nathaniel Reed, Sr., will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 22, 2000 at Soul's Harbor Church of God in Christ, Elder M. L. Goggins, pastor; Elder Phenix Aaron, eulogy.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday April 21, 2000 at COMBS FUNERAL HOME, CHAPEL from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Marilyn Walker Holt
Mrs. Marilyn Walker Holt, 43, of Lake City, died early Tuesday morning of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
A native and lifelong resident of Lake City, Florida, Mrs. Holt was employed as a Computer Technician Specialist with the Columbia County School Board. This position was created by the school board to best utilize Mrs. Holts' self taught knowledge of computer systems. She was employed with the Columbia County School Board for eighteen years. Mrs. Holt had also been employed as an admissions specialist with Lake Shore Hospital before going to work with the school system. She was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Suwannee County. She loved her hobbies of reading, music, crocheting and computers.
Mrs. Holt is survived by her husband of twenty years, Claude Holt; her son, Bruce Holt; her parents, Clarence and Hazel Walker and three sisters, Nan Bell, Mary Ann Moates and Karen W. Harris all of Lake City, Florida.
Funeral services for Mrs. Holt will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, April 21, 2000, in the Evergreen Baptist Church in Suwannee County, Florida, with Rev. Andy Harrell and Rev. Harry Lumbert officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 Thursday eve-ning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Bruce Holt Scholarship Fund % the D.O.T. Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 2768, Lake City, FL 32056.

Juanita Brown
Juanita Brown, age 44, resident of Lake Butler, Fla. died Sunday April 16, 2000 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. following a brief illness.
She was a native and life long resident of Union County. The daughter of the late Lucille Johnson and Willie Faison.
Survivors include her husband, Jessie Brown; one daughter, Yolanda F. Allen; two sons, Henry Allen and Eddie Allen, Jr.; one brother, Jerome Fields; six grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Juanita Brown, will be 2:30 p.m. Sat. April 22, 2000 at St. James A.M.E. Church, Lake Butler, Fla. Rev. George M. Edwards, pastor. Interment will be on Monday April 24, 2000 at Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, Fla.

Darryl Wilton Cobb
Darryl Wilton Cobb, age 41, died Monday, April 17th, at Avalon Healthcare & Rehab Center, Lake City.
Born in Lake City, Mr. Cobb was a lifelong resident here. He was a Corrections Officer with the Florida Department Of Corrections. A devout Christian, Mr. Cobb was a member of the Olustee Baptist Church and was an accomplished musician and vocalist who played piano, organ and saxophone. Mr. Cobb will be most remembered for his love and devotion to Jesus and his inspirational love for every person who knew him.
Mr. Cobb is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ira J. and Banche Edith Stalvey and Elsie Mae and Colonel Cobb.
Mr. Cobb is survived by his mother, Martha Lee Sherrod with husband Walt SR; his father, Henry Wilton Cobb with wife Margaret; one brother Jerry Cobb of Fort White; two sisters, Kim Webb of Lake City and Yvonne Cobb of Ocala along with several aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at First Advent Christian Church, McFarlane Ave., Lake City, today April 21st at 4 PM, Pastor James Morrison presiding.
In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated for the Darryl Cobb Fund which will purchase musical instruments for children who cannot afford them who are enrolled in the Columbia County High School band. Teresa Freeman-Garrett, age 42, died April 17, 2000 in Ft. White, FL.
Mrs. Freeman-Garrett was the daughter of Betty Freeman and the late Frank Freeman, Jr. She was a faithful member of Miracle Tabernacle of Lake City, FL, Dr. C.J. Steele, Pastor, retired cosmetologist and employee of Aero Corporation of Lake City and Gate Energizer of Alachua, FL.
Survivors include; one daughter, Niya Garrett, Ft. White, FL; one son, Marcus Spencer, Ft. White, FL; mother, Betty Freeman, Ft. White, FL; three sisters, Sharon Freeman, Lake City, FL, Cynthia Baker, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Tarsha Freeman, Lake City, FL; seven brothers, Anthony Freeman, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Elvis Freeman, Ft. Eugene Saccomano
Eugene Saccomano, 80, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Thursday, April 19, 2000 at Country Homes, Lake City after an extended illness.
Mr. Saccomano was a native of Patterson, New Jersey and had resided in Lake City for the past 40 years. Prior to living in Lake City he had resided in Fargo, Georgia. He is the son of the late James and Lillian Saccomano. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Daisy Saccomano.
Survivors include: two daughters, Patricia S. O'Neal, Lake City, Florida and Sandy S. and (Ralph) Spradley Sr., Lake City, Florida; four grandchildren, Aaron O'Neal, Lake City, Florida, Stephanie (Cricket) Spradley, Lake City, Ralph (Bubba) Spradley, Lake City, FL and Kelli Spradley, Lake City, Florida. Lifelong friends T.J. and Mildred Jordan and family.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 21, 2000 at 2:00PM in the Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Daniels, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Ted R. Tucker
Mr. Ted R. Tucker, age 79, died Friday, April 21 at his residence. Mr. Tucker was born in Byesville, Ohio and moved to Ocala from Lake City, Fla. in 1958. He was a graduate of Kent State University where he received his Masters Degree and was in the Athletic Hall of Fame. Ted played Short-stop for the Cleveland Indians baseball team. He taught and coached at Columbia High School in Lake City. He lived in Lake City 42 years and was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and Ushered for over 25 years. He was a Volunteer at Interfaith Services for many years. Ted was a member of the Ocala Elks Lodge, Charter member of Former F.B.I. Agents, Local Chapter. Ted was a Veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Marine Corps and had over 25 years of service with the F.B.I.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 25 years, Anne K. Tucker of Ocala; daughter, Nancy Garcia of Olath, KS.; 2 step-daughters, Anne Kinser of Ocala, Fla. and Adele Buffington of Menlo Park, California; 2 step-sons, Fred Siyufy of Ocala, Fla. and Robert Siyufy of Pace; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hiers Funeral Home in Ocala on Wednesday, April 26 from 5-7 p.m. with funeral services held at the First United Methodist Church in Ocala at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend William A. Owens.

Charles Mace Morris
Charles Mace Morris, 81, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2000, in the Lake City Veterans Hospital. Mr. Morris was a native of Marietta, Georgia and lived in Newman, Georgia for 12 years, moving there from Clearwater, Florida where he resided for forty six years. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy with action in the South Pacific. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Marietta, Georgia.
Survivors include: his wife, Frances R. Morris of Newman, Georgia; three sons, Newt Mace Morris of Newman, Georgia, Charles Mace Morris of Gainesville, Florida, and Robert Crain Morris of Tarpon Springs, Florida; four daughters, Patricia Penababe of Tampa, Florida, Meagan Morris of Newman, Georgia, Angelyn Montgomery of Greenville, Georgia, and Patricia R. Wheeler of Clayton, Georgia; one brother, Paul Morris of Longview, Texas; two sisters, Clyde Williams and Ruth Holliday both of Marietta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 616 South Marion Street, Lake City, Florida with Chaplain Larry D, Kendrick, officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Gardens, Clearwater, Florida.

Mary B. Chalmers
Mary B. Chalmers, age 96, of Lake City, FL died Saturday, April 22, 2000 in the Speciality Hospital of Jacksonville, FL following a long illness.
Mrs. Chalmers was born in Azores, Portugal and moved to Taunton, Massachusetts at the age of 16 in 1919. She resided in Taunton, Massachusetts for sixty years before moving to Lake City, FL 21 years ago. She was the widow of the late George Chalmers and was employed as a seamstress with Taunton Garment Company, Taunton, Mass. for many years. She was a member of the Epiphany Catholic Church, Lake City, FL.
Survivors include: her daughter, Madeline Speer of Lake City, FL; her son, Joseph Cabaino of Lake City, FL; two brothers, John Baptista of San Jose, CA, and Authur Baptista of Atwater, CA; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10A.M. Tuesday, April 25, 2000 in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, Lake City, FL. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, FL. Visitation will be from 7PM to 9PM Monday, April 24, 2000 at Guerry Funeral Home, 4309 South First Street, Lake City, FL.

Lucille B. Watters
Lucille B. Watters, 75, a resident of Lulu, Florida died Friday, April 21, 2000 at the St. Vincents Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida after an extended illness.
Mrs. Watters was a lifelong resident of Lulu, Florida. She is the daughter of the late Vernon and Vera Pearce Ritch. She was employed by General Electric as a tester.
Survivors include: two daughters, Martha Jones, and Eileen Callaway, both of Sanderson, Florida; two son-in-laws, Brince Jones and Owen Combs, of Sanderson, Florida; two sisters, Mabel Johnson, Lake City, Florida and Frances Richardson, Lake City, Florida; two brothers, Edward Ritch, Lake City, Florida and Maurice Ritch, Kaysville, Utah; four grandchildren, Sandy Smith, Denise Eillis, Tina Kennedy, and Greg Callaway; seven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 24, 2000 at 2:00PM in the Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Aubrey McCormick, officiating. Interment will follow in the Swift Creek Cemetery, Union County, Florida. The family received friends from 7-9PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert Jackson Blackwelder
Mr. Robert Jackson Blackwelder, 89, of Tallahassee, died April 23, 2000 Sunday morning at Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park. Mr. Blackwelder was born in Lulu and lived most of his life in Winter Haven before moving to Tallahassee in 1996. He was a retired citrus harvester. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Winter Haven ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. "Bobby" Blackwelder.
Mr. Blackwelder is survived by: his wife Mondell Roberts Blackwelder of Tallahassee; one daughter Annette B. Krause of Tallahassee; 3 sisters, Susie B. Thomas and Ouida B, Nettles both of Lake City, Mary Jane Cuttler of Salt Lake City, Utah; 1 brother Parley Blackwelder of Haines City; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at 2:00P.M. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler with Bishop Russell Akers, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6PM to 8PM.

Connie L. Calvert
Connie L. Calvert, age 47, died Friday, April 21st, at her residence in Bell, Florida.
Born in Braddock, PA and raised in Ir-win, PA, Mrs. Calvert lived in Florida for 30 years. Mrs. Calvert, a Methodist and a member of the Branford United Methodist Church, worked as an assistant manager in the retail trade. Mrs. Calvert enjoyed singing Karaoke and was an artist who painted eggs instead of canvas.
Mrs. Calvert is survived by her parents, Harry and Helen Zimmerman; one son,
George W. Marks; three daughters, Kristina M. Hobby, Shelley A. McCrae and Sheila L. Denim; two brothers, Harry W. Zimmerman and Terry V. Zimmerman, all of Bell, FL along with eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Branford United Methodist Church, Thursday, April 27th, at 7 PM, Reverend Bill Steele presiding.The family requests that in place of flowers donations be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606-6290.

Virginia "Ginny" Rice
Virginia "Ginny" Rice, 58, of McAlpin, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2000 in Shands at Alachua General Hospital, Gainesville.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota native moved to McAlpin in 1978 from San Francisco, California, a certified Nurses Aide, was involved with 4-H as a leader for twenty years and also sponsored 4-H awards and formerly a Cub Scout den leader. Mrs. Rice was of Lutheran faith.
Survivors include her husband, David K. Rice, McAlpin, FL; her mother, Dorothy Hinckley, Citrus Heights, CA; one daughter, Denise Clayton, McAlpin, FL; two sons, Joseph B. Rice, Turkey, NC and Martin B. Rice, Jasper, FL; five grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Burkemper, Hoffman Estates, IL, Benita Chestnut, North Highlands, CA; one brother, Clyde Hinckley, Oakley, CA. Mrs. Rice was the daughter-in-law of Joseph G. and Bernice Rice of McAlpin.

David Norman
Memorial Services for the late David Norman will be held at 2:00 P.M. on April 29, 2000 at the family lot in the Pine Forest Cemetery in Homerville, Georgia. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Homerville United Methodist Church. A David Norman Memorial Fund has been established at the Lake City Community College Foundation, Rt 19 Box 1030, Lake City, FL 32025. Roundtree Funeral Home, Homerville, GA will assist the family.

Leerue Parker Sr.
Mr. Leerue Parker Sr. was the son of the late John and Sara Parker. Mr. Parker was born , April 26, 1930 in Summeralls, Mississippi. He departed this life at home on March 22, 2000 from a brief illness. He moved to Lake City, FL in 1965 due to his job as a stump remover and a foreman for many years for C.E. Ratcliff and Billy Seige until he retired in 1991. One child proceeded him in death.
He leaves to mourn: his wife Elouise Parker; and a special friend Janie Kelly; six sons; Leerue Parker, Jr., Hattiesburge, MS, Mitch Parker (Jackie) Sanches Sylvester Kelly (Rhonda), Steve Kelly, Michael Kelly (Jockloyn); three daughters, Sara (Wanye) Jerigan, Tanya (Larry) Collins, and Sherry Parker all of Lake City, FL.; four, sisters Fannie Dye, Lilliemae, Ada. B. all of Summeralls, MS and Lizzie of Detroit; 25 grands; one great grand; a host of nieces and nephew; devoted friends Mr. Penny Powell and Arlena and family, C.E. Ratclif, Ivory Manning and family, Joe Jackson and family, Joe Gaddis and family, Willie Lee Collins and family, William Russell, Jackie Alford, Lucinda Beverly and all the Staff of Spires Super Market all of Lake City, FL. Frances L. Wright
Frances L. Wright died April 21, 2000 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL.
A native of Lake City, Mrs. Wright lived here twenty-five years after coming from Cedar Key, FL. Mrs. Wright was a cook and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include; her son, William C. Jerkins, Sr., Williston, FL; one brother, Cecil Norris, Cross City, FL; one sister, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Wallace Thomas Everett, age 73, of Fountain, FL passed away Monday, April 24, 2000 at Panama City, FL.
He was of the Baptist Faith. Past Commander of the AM. Vets Post 231 and a member of the Moose Lodge.He was preceded in death by a brother, Whit Edward Everett.
Survivors; three sons, Thomas Wallace Everett, Miami, FL, James Robert Everett, Orlando, FL, Francis Whit Everett, Lakeland, FL; one daughter, Rose Mary Randolph, Lakeland, FL; one brother, Bob Everett, Fountain, FL; three sisters, Videll Park, Lynn Haven, FL, Marilyn Carter, Wausau, FL, Ann Long, Panama City, FL, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 27, 2000 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Carlos Finch officiating. Edward Michael Mickey" Malans
Edward Michael Malans, 60, of Ellisville died Sunday, April 23, 2000 in his home.
Mr. Malans was born in Jacksonville and moved from High Springs to Ellisville nine years ago.
Mr. Malans graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1958, served in the U. S. Air Force and was an Amtrak railroad conductor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of High Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Mary W. Malans of Ellisville and a brother, Gregory Malans of High Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2000 at Evans-Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Morris Beck conducting the services. Burial will be in the High Springs Cemetery under the direction of EVANS-CARTER Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2000 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Howard B. Barrett
Howard B. Barrett of Tallahassee, FL died on Wednesday, April 26, 2000 of Natural causes in Lake City, Florida.
Mr. Barrett was born in Monticello, FL and had lived in Tallahassee since 1981. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea. He was in the FL State Park Services, a member of the Naval Fleet
Reserve and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Barrett is survive by: daughters: Wanda Jean Green of Lake City, FL and Lu Ann Barrett of Tallahassee, FL; brothers: Alfred Barrett of Tallahassee, FL, and Franklin Barrett of Monticello, FL; sisters: Mary Willis, Myrtle Herndon, Louise Wilford all of Monticello, FL, and Marjorie Mills of Wigham, GA; 1 grandson Michael Housch, and 3 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at Abbey Funeral Home on Saturday, April 29, 2000. Place of burial will be in Tallahassee Memory Gardens, in Tallahassee, FL.

Mildred W. Peters
Mrs. Mildred W. Peters, 77, of Lake City, died Wednesday afternoon in Alachua, Florida, as a result of injuries sus-tained in an automobile accident.
A native of Opp, Alabama, Mrs. Peters had been a resident of Lake City since 1967 having moved here from Bartow, Florida. Mrs. Peters was a homemaker. She was a member of the Senior Friends and was very active in the Parkview Baptist Church. She worked during election time at the polls. Mrs. Peters hobbies were her church and her family. Mrs. Peters was predeceased in 1991 by her husband Quitman Peters.
Mrs. Peters is survived by: a son, Ricky Peters (Sherry), Birmingham, Alabama; four daughters, Eloise Long (Eddie), Bartow, FL, Patricia Stone (Brian) Aiea, Hawaii, Diane Kay (Ron), Jacksonville, Florida, Karen Butler (Troy) Lake City, Florida; four brothers, Clarence Nelson, Alto Nelson, and Junior Nelson all of Opp, Alabama and Malcolm Nelson, Apopka, FL; four sisters,. Rena Mae Jackson, Andalusia, Alabama, Lessie Morgan, Opp, Alabama, Margie Morrow, Elba, Alabama, and Jean Davis of Swainsboro, Georgia.
Funeral services fro Mrs. Peters will be conducted at 2:00P.M., Monday, May 1, 2000, in the Parkview Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Butler officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will re-ceive friends at the funeral home from 5-8:00PM Sunday evening. Ralph Chellis Murdock
Ralph Chellis Murdock, 82, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Saturday April 29, 200 at the Country Home Nursing Home Lake City, Florida after an extended illness.
Mr. Murdock was a native of Crown Point, New York and had resided in Lake City, Florida since 1960. He was employed with the Columbia County School System for fifteen years and retired in 1978. He was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church, Lake City, Florida.
Survivors include four step sons; Colen Brinkley, Brady Brinkley, Marvin Brinkley and Lonnie Brinkley all of Lake City, Florida; one sister, Connie McAusland, Hudson, Mass. Deanna Davis and Annie Harris, caretakers and very close friends.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday May 1, 2000 at 3 P.M. at the Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery, Wellborn, Florida with the Rev. Ken Bowers officiating.

Ruth C. Scogin
Ruth C. Scogin, age 91, died Saturday, April 29, 2000 at National Healthcare of Lake City.
Born in North Georgia, Mrs. Scogin lived in Lake City since October of 1999 having moved from Lantana, Florida. A Baptist and member of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta, Mrs. Scogin worked as a clerical secretary for a brokerage firm. Mrs. Scogin was totally devoted to her family and would always be there for any kin whom she could help.
Preceding Mrs. Scogin in death is her husband, Joe Will Scogin. Mrs. Scogin is survived by her sister, Grace Pirkle of Lake City, two nieces, Wynelle Homin of Palm Springs, Florida, and Kristin Ebel with husband Pete of West Palm Beach, Florida, two nephews, Glen Bell with wife Sally of Greenville, South Carolina, and John Bell with wife Renee of Lake City, four great-great nieces, and four great-great nephews, along with many other relatives.
Services for Mrs. Scogin will be held latter in the week at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in North Georgia.

Anne Claire DeVane
Anne Claire DeVane, 54, a resident of Keystone Heights, Florida died Friday April 28, 2000 at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. DeVane was a native of Lake City, Florida and graduated from Columbia High School Class of 1963. She graduated from Florida State University in 1968 with a Masters degree in Speech Pathology and a Masters Degree in Education from Jacksonville University.
Survivors include: two daughters, Alexandria Deese and Devane Deese both of Jacksonville, Florida. Her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. DeVane, Lake City, Florida. Two sisters, Lynne DeVane Boyd, Lake City, Florida and Charlene DeVane Roberts, Atlanta, Ga. Three nieces, Amanda Payne, Lake City, Fla., Ramsey Roberts, Atlanta, Ga. and Pricilla Roberts, Atlanta, Ga; one nephew, Charlie Payne, Lake City, Florida.
Graveside Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday May 2, 2000 at the Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Florida with the Rev. Roy Martin, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Rita J. Carignan
Rita J. Carignan age 60, died Sunday, April 30, 2000 at her home after a long illness.
Born in Biddeford, Maine, Mrs. Carignan lived in Lake City for 19 years having moved from Portland, ME. A Roman Catholic and member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Mrs. Carignan worked as a registered nurse for the Veterans Administration for a total of 26 years, 19 of which was at the Lake City Medical Center. In her leisure time Mrs. Carignan enjoyed needlepoint sewing.
Mrs. Carignan is survived by her husband Leo, two sons, John of Bonita Springs, FL, and James of Newport, RI, one sister, Ruth Crye with husband Harry of Anderson, IN, and two grandchildren.
The family of Mrs. Carignan will receive friends and neighbors at a visitation today, Monday, May 1, 2000 from 7 PM to 9 PM at Costanzo Funeral Home. A rosary service will begin at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be offered by Father Patrick Murphy; SJ, Tuesday May 2, 2000 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Lake City, at 11 AM followed by committal at Forest Lawn Cemetery; SJ. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, Development Department, 1900 Florida Gateway Blvd, Lake City, FL 32024.

Toxey "Tony" W. Bankston
Toxey "Tony" W. Bankston, 90, a resident of Homestead, Florida died Saturday April 29, 2000 in Homestead after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Bankston was a native of Grant Parish, Lousiana and moved to Florida in the late 1920's. After moving to Lake City he worked at the Naval Air Station during WW II. He and his wife, Clemmie, owned and operated Po-Boys Do-nut Shop in Lake City from 1946 to 1974. He was an avid sports fan and attended the "Tigers" football games. He also loved music and sang.
Survivors include two daughters: Glenda Bishop, Lake City, Fl and Carol Breckenridge of Homestead, FL. Five grandchildren: Karen Jennings, High Springs, FL, Sharon Keene, Lake City, FL, Theresa Malley, Homestead, FL, John Breckenridge, Homestead, FL and Melanie Crosby, Nashville, Tenn. He has nine great grandchildren: Andy, Vincent, Rachel, Lauren, Clemmie, Spencer, Kevin, Allen and Dylan.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday May 2, 2000 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leona Ruise, age 88 resident of Margaretta, Fla. died Monday April 24, 2000 at Frank Wells Nursing Home in Macclenny, Fla. terminating an extended illness.
She had resided in Baker County most of her adult life and was the widow of the late Elder Oria Ruise, Sr. She was a faithful member of Emanuel Church of God In Christ, serving as the Church First Lady and Mother for years.
