Mattie Lou Lindsey
Mattie Lou Lindsey, 88, widow of the late Calvin Lindsey of Alachua, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Shands at Lake Shore hospital.
She was a native of Adell, Ga., having moved to Alachua in 1969 from Hague. She was a member of High Springs Church of God.
Survivors include five sons, Levis Lindsey of Gainesville, Virgil M. and Ellis Lindsey of Fort White, James E. Lindsey of Alachua, and Edward E. Lindsey of LaCrosse; three daughters, Myrtle Mae Bundy of Fort White, Margaret L. Brock of Camp Hill, Pa., and Minnie L. Rizer of Trenton; one brother, Bill Jarvis of Sparks, Ga.; two sisters, Ruth Lindsey of Fort White and Lettie Rhoden of Lacochee; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mattie Lou Lindsey will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Evans-Carter Funeral Home Chapel in High Springs with the Rev. Clarence Pender conducting. Cynthia 'Simp' Harris
Mrs. Cynthia "Simp" Harris, 46, of Route 8, Box 16277, Lake City, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Baker County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Pearl Paige. She received her education in the public schools of Baker County. She retired from North Florida State Hospital after 22 years.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Harris; two daughters, DeAndrea (Curtis) Harmon of Macclenny and Tracey M. Harris of Lake City; one son, Willie L. Hudson of Sanderson; two grandchildren, Taylor Hudson Harmon and Curtis Harmon Jr.; 10 brothers, Wilbur Stewart, Henry (Mary) Paige, Minister Vernon (Wanda) Paige, Roosevelt Paige, Marion Paige, E.J. (Bobbie) Paige, Claude Paige, Leo Jefferson and Charles (Linda) Jefferson, all of Sanderson, and Morris (Odla) Paige of Raiford; seven sisters, Mother Totsie (Deacon Sonny) Copeland, Ernestine (Collis) Givens, Mattie Givens and Mary Jefferson, all of Sanderson, Rita (Minister Willie) Givens of Dorchester, Flossie (Hardrick) McGuire of Lake City and Betty (Robert) Stoutimire of Macclenny; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Lee Esther Harris of Lake City; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Leslie Luther Milton
Mr. Leslie Luther Milton, 64, of Lake City died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at his residence following a long illness.
Mr. Milton had resided in Lake City all his life and was the son of the late Orrin and Lossie King Milton. He was employed as a technician II at the Florida Department of Transportation's maintenance department in Lake City for 32 years until his retirement in 1994. He attended Deep Creek Advent Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae Milton of Lake City; two sons, Luther Carl (Teresa) Milton and Bruce Milton, both of Lake City; one brother, A.C. (Mearl) Milton of Lake City; and two grandchildren, Carlton Aubrey Milton and Leslie Amanda Milton, both of Lake City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Deep Creek Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Ethel Lee Young
Mrs. Ethel Lee Young, 86, of 1317 Virginia St., Lake City, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Leon County, she was the daughter of Noble and Mary Jane Roberts. She attended public schools in Leon County. She was a member of New Day Springs Baptist Church, Silver Star Lodge No. 12, Son and Daughter of Joshua Society and Pallbearer Lodge Nos. 44 and 17.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Wilds (Johnnie) of Lake City and Mrs. Ella Mae Moss (Charles) of Memphis, Tenn.; two stepsons, Will Carr of Fort Myers and Mr. Richard Carr Jr. of Pittsburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Dollie Mae Denmark (William) of Monticello and Mrs. Rainey Inez McCloud of Tallahassee; two devoted godsons, the Rev. George Francis of White Springs and Otis Hendon Sr. of Lake City; one goddaughter, Doris Collins of Jacksonville; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lamar Tanner
Mr. Lamar Tanner, 73, of Providence died Monday, March 5, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Tanner was born in Providence and was a lifelong resident. He was a farmer and retired from the Columbia County Road Department in 1996 as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Old Providence Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Tanner.
Mr. Tanner is survived by three daughters, Bobbie T. (Stan) Lehman and Janice T. (Ralph) Parrish, both of Lake Butler, and Lisa Tanner of Providence; two stepdaughters, Rosemary Lee and Joann Chamberlain, both of Lake City; one stepson, Stanley Crews of Lake City; two sisters, Muriel Nettles and Joyce Tanner, both of Lake City; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and two great-stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Old Providence Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Cranford and Mark Johns officiating. Robert James Markwardt
Robert James Markwardt, 76, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his residence in Lake City.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Markwardt lived in Lake City for nine years, having moved from Palm Beach County. Mr. Markwardt, a World War II Navy veteran, was active in volunteer service at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center and was an avid race car enthusiast.
Mr. Markwardt is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet; and one daughter, Lori Zenobia of Jupiter.
A memorial service with military honors by the U.S. Navy will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Costanzo Funeral Home. Arthur Lee Robertson
Mr. Arthur Lee Robertson, 72, of Lake City died early Tuesday morning, March 6, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Robertson was a native of Brewer, Maine, and lived in Lake City for the last nine years, having moved from St. Petersburg. Mr. Robertson was a member of Universal Church of the Master.
Mr. Robertson is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cheri Robertson of Lake City, and one son, Jason Robertson of Lake City.

Robert L. Turner
Mr. Robert L. Turner, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise and Fort White, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2001.
Mr. Turner was born in Camden, N.J., on Feb. 22, 1932, and was the son of the late Edward and Alma Atkinson. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 during the Korean War and served the last two years of duty in Green Cove Springs, where he played baseball. He was active in juvenile baseball activities in South Florida. He was former commander of Sunrise American Legion Post No. 324 and founder of their first baseball team. He was former president of Sunrise Citizens League, former chairman of Sunrise Athletic Board and former president of Sunrise Umpires Association.
He was a sailing enthusiast, former member of Quail Heights Country Club and a member of Gator Trace Country Club, where he excelled in golf. He was employed by Forest Products Inc. Import Everglades for 21 years and lived for 15 years in Fort White. Mr. Turner was employed by Leeds Insulation in Fort Pierce at the time of his death.
Mr. Tanner is survived by four daughters, Margaret (Bob) Boudreau, Teresa Turner-Roufe, Roberta Robin Turner and Christa Turner; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, Patty, Michael, Stephanie and Robert; and his sister, Dorothy Richards.

Sidney Bell Jr.
Sidney Bell Jr., 63, of 1302 Dixie St., Lake City, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, terminating an extended illness.
Born in Columbia County, he was the son of the late Sidney Bell Sr. and Alberta Harps Bell. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, serving for eight years. Sidney Jr. graduated from the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, in 1982. He was employed at North East Florida State Hospital for about 30 years, retiring due to ill health.
Survivors include a devoted companion for the last 17 years, Glenda M. Andrews, Lake City; three children from his previous marriage to Gloria Holmes Taylor, Lora Michelle Bell, Jacksonville, Jon M. Bell, Lake City, and Mark Alexander Bell, San Diego; he also helped raise his former brother-in-law, Walter W. Holmes (Papa); one granddaughter, Zjara Sydnae Wilson; two aunts, Mae Bell Jones, Fernandina Beach, and Mae Etta Fields, Lake City; a beloved cousin, Catherine Talbot, Lake City; a host of other cousins and lifelong friends also survive.

Dennis Price
Mr. Dennis Price, 93, of Lake City died late Tuesday evening, March 20, 2001, at his residence.
A native of St. Genevieve, Mo., Mr. Price lived in Lake City for the past two years, having moved here from Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mr. Price was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3838 in Cape Girardeau and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Workmen Union. Mr. Price enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, playing cards and watching the St. Louis Cardinals on television. Mr. Price was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Christine Price, on Jan. 14, 2000.
Mr. Price is survived by three sons, Charles Smith of St. Charles, Mo., Walter "Allen" Smith (Susan) of Montreal, Mo., and Earnest C. "Bud" Petty (Pam) of Marble Hill, Mo.; four daughters, Carol Ann Phelps (Bill) of St. Louis, Carla Lynn Miller (Don) of Salisbury, N.C., Linda C. Harris of Cape Girardeau and Kathy Sue Hendrickson (Uncle Bob) of Lake City; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Charlie Leonard Redding
Charlie Leonard "Charles" Fluellen Redding, 56, of Sarasota died Tuesday, March 20, 2001.
Mr. Redding was born Sept. 23, 1944, in Lake City and moved to Sarasota in 1971. He was a retired agriculture specialist for the state of Florida. He was a member of the Code Enforcement Advisory Board, the Sarasota Masonic Lodge 314, Phi Beta Sigma and the Northside Progressive Men Association, and an honorary member of Boy Scout Troop 888. He went to Edward Waters College, served in the Army and was a member of Greater Hurst Chapel AME Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marian A. Redding of Sarasota; father, Charlie Fluellen of Lake City; mother, Ida M. Redding of Lake City; two sons, Bryan Redding of Fort Lauderdale and Richard Redding of Sarasota; four sisters, Connie Zayas of Puerto Rico, Audrey Williams of Ocala, Carolyn Font of Augusta, Ga., and Allison Lofton of Williamsburg, Va.; two brothers, Joe Fluellen and Curtis Fluellen, both of Lake City; and five grandchildren.

Barney Bernard Wells, 37, of 1286 Ermine St., Lake City, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Shands at AGH in Gainesville following an extended illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Columbia County and was the son of Mr. Willie B. Wells and Mrs. Jimmie Lee Miller. Mr. Wells was a member of Salvation Holiness Church and was active in singing gospel with the Gospel Stars until his health failed.
Survivors include his mother, Jimmie Lee Miller; father, Willie B. Mrs. Julia Banks, 61, former resident of Letcher, Ky., and who resided in Lake City, Fla. for 15 years, passed away March 20, 2001, at the Suwannee Healthcare in Live Oak, Fla.
She was born in Letcher on March 20, 1940, to the late Mr. Henry and Mrs. Francis Adams.
Survivors are her husband, Mr. James Curtis Banks, and three sons, Mr. Charles David, Mr. James Henry and Mr. Eugene Micheal Banks.

The Perry, Fla., native was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Albert E. Munyon III
Albert E. Munyon III, 60, died Tuesday, March 20 at the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla.
Born in Milford, Mass., Mr. Munyon lived in Wellborn for six years having moved from Lehigh Acres, Fla. Mr. Munyon, a bishop of the Sacred Heart Greek Orthodox Catholic Church in Wellborn, served as chaplain for many years at the Lee County Correctional Facility, and was an active volunteer in the community.
A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Munyon was awarded numerous medals, serving both in the Army and the Air Force for over nine years. Mr. Munyon will be long remembered for his charitable spirit.
Mr. Munyon is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rita; one son, Albert E. Munyon IV (Necie) of Harrison, Alaska; one daughter, Michelle Williams (Edward) of Wellborn; two brothers, Emery Munyon of Bethel, Vt. and David Munyon of Providence, R.I.; two sisters, Carol Little of North Uxbridge, Mass., and Patricia Munyon of Randolph, Vt.; and eight grandchildren.

Lorie J. Sessions Gentry
Lorie June Sessions Gentry, 34, of Pineapple, Ala., passed away March 15, 2001, at HealthSouth Neurological Rehabilitation Hospital, Birmingham, Ala., from brain injuries suffered in an automobile accident Feb. 3, 2001, near her home.
Born in Tampa on Oct. 30, 1966, she came to Mayo at age 4. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1984, and from Rehberg's School of Cosmetology, Lake City, in 1985. She then graduated from the Lake City Police Academy and the Florida Correctional Officers Academy at Lake City Community College in 1987. She was with the Department of Corrections seven years, serving at Union, Hamilton and Columbia correctional institutions, where she attained the rank of sergeant. She served as a reserve officer with the Lake City Police Department for a short time and also served with the Columbia and Hamilton county sheriff's offices. Since her marriage in 1993, she has resided in Pineapple, where she was a partner with her husband in the family business, Sweetwater Hunting Lodge. At the time of her death, she was also employed as an agent with Liberty National Life Insurance Co., Greenville, Ala., office.
Survivors include her husband, Alan Gentry of Pineapple; a daughter, Jordan Gentry, 6, of Pineapple; and a son, Hunter Gentry, 3, of Pineapple; her parents, Loomis and Ruth Sessions of Lake City; a sister, Carla Brock of Greenville; three brothers, Larry Sessions and Barry Sessions, both of Suwannee County, and Terry Martin of Berlin Center, Ohio; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Christian Life Ministries Church of Georgiana, Ala., where she was the praise and worship leader and a member of the Prayer Warriors. Lorie was also a 30-year member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 105, Mayo.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Johnson Funeral Chapel, Georgiana with the Rev. Stacey Gaston officiating. Interment
followed in Forest Home Methodist Cemetery. The family received relatives and friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2001, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Estelle Revels, 84, of Wellborn died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at her daughter's residence following a long illness.
Mrs. Revels was a native and lifelong resident of Wellborn, daughter of the late Perry and Modenna Knight Cheshire, and widow of the late Marvin Revels. Mrs. Revels was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean (James) Page of Lake City and Glenda (Lloyd) Bethea of Wellborn; one sister, Jennie Vee Rains of Wellborn; three grandchildren, Charlotte Thompson of Wellborn, Jimmy Page of Lake City and and Marvin Page of Fort White; and seven great-grandchildren.

Eunice C. Walker, a lifelong resident of Lake City, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her daughter, Julie Ann Walker of Lake City; and two cousins, Walter E. Byers of Jacksonville and Ruth Proctor of Woodbridge, Ga.

Eadward Murrill Brown
Eadward Murrill Brown, 78, of Lake City died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Gainesville due to complications from Myasthenia Gravis and post-polio syndrome.
Mr. Brown was born in Gainesville and moved to Live Oak 11 years ago. He was a certified public accountant., a cattleman and a U.S. military veteran. He was a member of the Kappa Apha Order and the Florida Institute of Certified Accountants. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and woodworking.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Anita W. Brown of Lake City; daughter, Catherine Brown Boyett (Bill) of Gainesville; son, Thomas Eadward Brown (Catherine) of Tallahassee; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Whitmore Brown.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Brown will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001. Burial will be in Forest Meadows East in Gainesville. Roy Curl
Mr. Roy Curl, 60, of Lake City died late Monday, March 26, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Miami, Mr. Curl had lived in Lake City for the past nine years, having moved here from Homestead. Mr. Curl retired from the U.S. Air Force at the rank of E-9 after 30 years of service, both active and reserve. Mr. Curl was last employed as a quality control technician with NASA at Cape Canaveral. Mr. Curl was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 100 in Homestead, Southern Knights Street Rodders, North Florida Road Riders, Gold Wing Road Riders Association and a former member of the Lake City Shrine Club. Mr. Curl enjoyed were restoring cars and motorcycles.
Mr. Curl is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mrs. Betty Curl of Lake City; two daughters, Paula Renee Overton (Steve) of Louisville, Ky., and Teri Lynn Brown (Michael) of Atlanta; one brother, Dan Curl of Florida City; three stepbrothers, Lawrence Westberry of MacClenny, and Billy Westberry and Ernie Westberry, both of Homestead; one nephew, Kelly Curl of Homestead; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Alec Brown.
Memorial services for Mr. Curl will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, in the Westside Baptist Chapel, with the Rev. Elmer Crews officiating. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Florida Gateway Center Blvd., Lake City, FL 32025.

Karen Janiece Platt, 48, of Lake City passed away at her home on Saturday, March 24, 2001.
Karen was born in Jeffersonville, Ind., and moved to Lake City three years ago from Bradenton. She was an ordained unification minister.
Survivors include her son, Jacob K. Platt of Lake City; daughter, Amber R. Platt of Lake City; mother, Lavern Arkenburg, of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Cindy Combs of Clarksville, Ind., and Mary Catherine Miller of Monroe, N.J.; brother, John Kelly Fields of Nashville; and former husband, Eugene K. Platt of Lake City.

Dorothy Mae Gaskin
Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gaskin, 77, of 3 Oak Lawn St., Lake City, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Shands at Lake Shore hospital terminating an illness.
Born in Columbia County, she was the daughter of the late Annie and Alex Webster. Confessing Christ at an early age, she united with Mt. Tabor A.M.E. Church and served faithfully until her health failed. She also held membership with Heroines of Jericho, Rose of Sharon Court No. 68, and the Golden Age senior citizens club. She enjoyed her "grands," gardening, fishing, sewing and quilting.
She was the daughter of the late Veral L. Davis. Survivors include brother, Will Webster; sister, Maeretha Robinson; grandchildren, Alicia, Lawrence and Nancy Davis; great-grandchildren, Kiara, Velana and Chauncey; godchild, Dot Jennings.
Dorothy was a loving and caring person who made friends easily, among them her extended adopted son and daughters, Robert L. Dix, Dorothy Coppock and JoAnna Poole.

Charles Timmons
Mr. Charles Timmons, 77, of 1803 N.E. Goodvine Way, Lake City, slept peacefully away Friday, March 23, 2001, at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center terminating an extended illness.
Born in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Mrs. Annie Brown and Mr. Robert Timmons. He received his education in the public schools of South Carolina and Denmark area Trade College, receiving a degree in brick masonry. He was a U.S. veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Early in life, he united with Red Hill A.M.E. Church in Lake City, S.C. After relocating to Lake City, Fla., he connected with Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church. He was employed with Bishop Agency for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Timmons; children, Rufus Timmons (Roberta) of Florence, S.C., Emma Martin (Russell) of Lake City, S.C. and their mother, Naomi Singletary of Lake City, S.C., Evverett Gordon of Newark, N.J., Annett G. Rentz (Augusta) of Lake City, Fla.; brother, Richard Timmons (Edna) of Johnstown, Pa.; brother-in-law, Walter Griffin of San Francisco; sisters-in-law, Jessie Timmons of Lake City, S.C., Many Nealy and Vera Bullock of Rosboro, N.C.; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Willie L. (Billie) Clark
Mr. Willie L. (Billie) Clark, 69, of Lake City died Tuesday morning, March 27, 2001, at his residence.
Survivors are his wife, Jewell; daughters, Janice (Aaron), Deborah and Claudette; sons, Larry (Patricia), Gregory, Jeffrey and Gerald Clark; brothers, Carl Jackson, Isreal Caldwell (Silvia), Carl Clark and Albert Johnson (Gwen); sisters, Edna Caldwell, Jeanie Kelly and Katherine Caldwell; brother-in-law, James Rowe (Doris); sisters-in-law, Alberta (Samuel) Lewis and Bealuh Smith; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Charles Alexander Devane
Charles A. Devane, 83, of Lake City passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, after an extended illness.
He was born in Albany, Ga. and was son of the late John Homer and Nena Belle Ramsey Devane. He moved to Lake City in 1927 and graduated from Columbia High School in 1936. Mr. Devane served in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of World War II. He was a staff sergeant in the 75th Infantry Division, which was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Devane was in business in the Eagle-Devane Department Store for many years. After retirement in 1981, he became active in local real estate. Mr. Devane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City where he served as Sunday school superintendent, deacon and elder. He was a Mason, Shriner (Morocco Temple), and a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. Mr. Devane was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Claire Devane, in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Claire Devane of Lake City; two daughters, Lynne Devane-Boyd of Lake City and Charlene Devane Roberts of Peachtree City, Ga.; one brother, Harvey Devane of Lake City; three sisters, Carolyn Segrest of Birmingham, Ala., Jeanne Gruetzmacker of Tampa and Yvonne Carter of Orlando; five granddaughters, Alexandria and Devane Deese of Jacksonville, Amanda Payne of Lake City, and Ramsey and Priscilla Roberts of Peachtree City; one grandson, Michael Charles Payne of Lake City.
A graveside service will be conducted for Mr. Devane at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, with Dr. Roy Martin officiating. Mrs. Clara Hall McDaniel,79, of Springfield, Va., died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, following a long illness.
Mrs. Daniel was a native of Lake City, daughter of the late James A. and Sarah Crews Hall, and was the widow of the late Robert W. McDaniel. Mrs. McDaniel lived in Jacksonville for many years prior to retiring to Lake Santa Fe in Earlton, before moving to Springfield, Va., in 1992. She was a former member of Southside Baptist Church, Lake City, and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Melrose. Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by one brother, James Elmer Hall.
Survivors include one son, Randy McDaniel of Auburn, Ala.; one daughter, Diane McDaniel Nickle of Springfield, Va.; one sister, Florence Hall Terry, and one brother, James Lonnie Hall, both of Lake City; sSix grandchildren, Sondra McDaniel Parmer, Shaney McDaniel Grider and Christopher Scott McDaniell of Auburn, Ala., Jody McDaniel Cook of Birmingham, Ala., Brian McDaniel Thomas of Raleigh, N.C., and Dylan Scott Nickle of McLean, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Erin White, Jacob Parmer and Emma Grider, all of Auburn, Ala.

Born Nov. 5, 1914, the wife of Frank T. Roush received a call from Jesus at 12:30 a.m. March 21, 2001, to come join his choir, saying, "Here are your wings, so come on up." Preston "Skeeter" H. Sandlin Jr.
Preston "Skeeter" H. Sandlin Jr., 25, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Lake City.
Born in Lake City and a lifelong resident, Mr. Sandlin worked as a concrete worker in the construction industry. A Baptist, Mr. Sandlin will be remembered for his love of hunting and fishing. Friends and family alike will miss him. Mr. Sandlin is survived by his fiancee, Mellie, two sons, Ivy and Lacey Padgett of Lake City; one brother, Greg Kendall (Misty) of Wellborn; and two sisters, Tami Sandlin and Sharon Dehart (Roger), both of Lake City.
A service for Mr. Sandlin will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Watertown Congregational Methodist Church, Okinawa Road, Lake City, with the Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to them for all final expenses.

Mary Alice Godbold Scofield
Mrs. Mary Alice Godbold Scofield, 75, of Lake City died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at her residence following a long illness.
Mrs. Scofield was a native of Hampton Springs, daughter of the late Julian and Myrtle Croft Godbold, and had resided in Lake City since 1926.
She graduated from Columbia High School, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, and attended the Lulu Advent Christian Church where she was the church organist. She owned and operated Alice's Beauty Shop in Lake City for 20 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed needlepoint, painting, art, reading and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Owen Scofield of Lake City; one son, Randy Scofield of Eatonton, Ga.; three daughters, Judy Kennedy, Kim Watson and Destini Scofield, all of Lake City; one brother, I.J. Godbold of Lake City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Leland Ray Gassett
Mr. Leland Ray Gassett, 19, of Lake City died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville.
Mr. Gassett was born on Sept. 5, 1981, in Bartow and had resided in Lake City for the past year. He was a construction worker and a member of Homeland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, YeVonne Gassett of Lakeland; father, Eddie Gassett of Homeland; stepmother, Melissa Gassett of Homeland; and grandparents, Leona and Russell Hornbuckle of Lakeland.
