William R.C. "Bill" Sullivan
Mr. William R.C. "Bill" Sullivan, 93, resident of Live Oak, Florida, died Sunday, October 21, 2001, at his residence, following a long illness.
Mr. Sullivan was a native of Kentucky, and had resided in Orlando, for many years, prior to moving to Lake City, in 1984, and until moving to Live Oak, in 1999. Mr. Sullivan was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II. He was a retired manager with Miami Transit. Mr. Sullivan was a member of the Lake City Church of God, and had attended Lighthouse Christian Church, in Mayo.
Survivors in include; One Son, Billy Sullivan, of California; One Daughter, Dora Lynn Holly, of Centerville, Tennessee; One Step-Son, Dan (Eileen) Fussell, of Live Oak. Five Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildrenalso survive.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 25, 2001, at 11:00 A.M., in Linden Cemetery, Linden, Florida, with Rev. Marshall Combs, pastor of the Lighthouse Christian Church, officiating. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, October 24, 2001, from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

Dillie Vann Fowler, 83, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001, in the Lake City Medical Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Fowler was a native of Sampson, Alabama, daughter of the late Will And Julia Davis Vann, and had resided in Lake City, since 1942. She was a member of the Huntsville Baptist Church, Lake City. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death, by her Husband, Carlos Franklin Fowler, and by one Daughter, Doris Goodson.
Survivors include; Four sons, T.A. "Bud" Fowler, of Alexandria, LA., Carlos W. "Kink" Fowler, Billy Joe Fowler, and J.W. Fowler, all of Lake City; Five Daughters, Willie Vann, of DeFuniak Springs, Lottie Thomas and Betty Jo Shope, both of Lake City, Evelyn Oden, of Live Oak, and Deborah Ann Simpson, of Awendah, S.C. Thirty Grandchildren, Forty-five Great Grand-children and Nine Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.

Jean L. Lingerfelt, 72, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Wednesday, October 24, 2001 after an extended illness.
Ms. Lingerfelt had lived in Lake City, Florida for ten years coming from Miami, Florida. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of VFW Post 2206, Lake City.
Survivors include four sons: Larry Cash, Temple, Georgia; Steve Cash, Wiemar, Texas; Scott Cash, East Palatka, Florida; Jeff Neff; Hobart, Indiana. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted for Mrs. Lingerfelt of Friday, October 26, 2001, 2:00 P.M. in the Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Tyre officiating. Kenneth C. Lowstetter
Mr. Kenneth C. Lowstetter, Sr., 78, resident of White Springs, Florida, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001, in the Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs, Florida, following a long illness.
Mr. Lowstetter was a native of Tars, Pennsylvania, son of the late Howard Elton and Irene Belle Thomas Lowstetter and had resided in Elyria, Ohio for most of his life, prior to moving to White Springs, Florida, in 1990. Mr. Lowstetter was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Medic in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Carnegie Tech, Pittsburgh, PA., with a Masters of Science Degree in Metallurgy, He had retired from ABEX Corp. in 1983, having served as Technical Director for En-gineered Products Division, and as Divisional Vice President. Mr. Lowstetter was a member of the White Springs and the Elyria UnitedMethodist Church. He enjoyed Golf, Bridge playing and Square Dancing. Mr. Lowstetter. was preceded in death by two Wives, Jane Lowstetter and Barbara Lowstetter.
Survivors include; His Wife, Barbara J. Lowstetter, of White Springs; Four Sons, Charles Lowstetter, of Ft. Lauderdale, Kenneth Lowstetter, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Larry Lowstetter, of Elyria,Ohio, and John Lowstetter, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; One Daughter, Susan Merrell, of Medina, Ohio; One Step Daugh-ter, Rene' Martin, of Elyria, Ohio; Three Sisters, Phyllis Rathburn, of Chicago, Ill., Jean Jaram, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Missey Tebbs, of Port St. Lucie. Nine Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Helen Siginiewicz Chudko, 72, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Saturday, October 27, 2001, in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital.
Mrs. Chudko was a native of Poland, daughter of the Sergio and Antonette Siginiewicz, and came to America in 1950. She had lived in New York, and in New Port Richey, Florida, prior to moving to Lake City in 1980. Mrs. Chudko had worked as a nurse aid, in the Tanglewood Nursing Home, and was currently working as a private duty nurse in Lake City. Mrs. Chudko was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, of Lake City.

Mr. Nathan O'berry Reeves, 79, resident of Wellborn, Florida, died Saturday, October 27, 2001, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Reeves was a native of Bug Hill, North Carolina, son of the late Charlie and Tallulah Jackson Reeves, and had resided in Charleston, South Carolina for many years, prior to moving to Wellborn, Florida, in 1965. Mr. Reeves was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, in 1965, where he had work as a submarine builder. Mr. Reeves was a member of the Fidelity Lodge, #304, of the Free & Accepted Masons, in Charleston. Mr. Reeves was a member, past deacon, and past Chairman, of the Fellowship Baptist Church, of Wellborn. He was preceded in death by one Son, Charles O'berry Reeves.

Essie Elizabeth McElwain, 80, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Friday October 26, 2001 at the Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. McElwain was a native of Hamilton County, Florida and had resided in Columbia and Hamilton counties for all of her life. She had worked at the Lake City Laundry for a number of years. She is preceded in death by her son Edwin Odell Beeche. Mrs. McElwain was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Lake City, Florida. Survivors include her husband: Thomas McElwain, Lake City, Florida, One Son: Hubert "Matt" (Louise) Mathews, Lake City, Florida, Four Grandchildren: Michael and (Chris) Mathews, Wanda Barefoot, John T. and (Lorrie) Mathews and Dale and (Sandy) Beeche. Anna Barnes Stanley, 83, of Jasper, FL, died Friday October 26, in a local nursing home. Mrs. Stanley was a native of Welch, WV and had been a resident of Jasper since 1966. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by: 2 daughters Imogene Phillips of Lake City, and Barbara Bandy of Jasper, 2 sisters Verda Crawford of Pound, VA and Vergie Mae Wilson of Dade City, FL 4 grandchildren- Donnie and Richard Phillips, David Bandy and Deanne Gist, 2 great grandchildren Jared Gist and Annie Rebecca Phillips. Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband Elmo William Stanley and by a son-in-law Donald Eugene Phillips.

Martha Jane Tompkins, Age 72 of Lake City, Fl., died Sunday October 28, 2001 in North Florida Regional Medical Center Gainesville, Florida.
She is a native and life long resident of Lake City, Fl. She was retired as a secretary of Developmental Services for the State of Florida and was a member of the Christian Science Society of Lake City, Fl. She was a member of the 1947 graduate class of Columbia County High School. Her hobbies included family genealogy and Crotchet. She is the Daughter of the late Horace and Vera Havird Tompkins. She is predeceased by her brothers; H.R. Tompkins, Jr., Ivey Tompkins, Gerald Tompkins and James P. Tompkins and her husband of 47 years Julian "Jake" P. Christie.

Mr. William E. Dennard, Jr., 77, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Dennard was a native of Lake City, Florida, son of the late William E. and Nancy Darley Dennard, Sr. Mr. Dennard was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for many years in the shipping department of Container Corporation, in Fernandina Beach, until his retirement in 1989, when he moved back to Lake City. Mr. Dennard had farmed his entire life, and was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church.
Survivors include; His Wife, Florence E. Mrs. Kissiah was a native of Fort Mill, South Carolina, daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Watford Spinks, and had lived there her entire life, prior to moving to Lake City in 2000. Mrs. Kissiah was a retired spooler for Spring Maid Industries, in Fort Mill, S.C.. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, in Fort Mill, S.C., and had attended the First Church of the Nazarene, in Lake City. She was preceded in death by her Husband, James Robert Kissiah.

Vernon Clifford Johns, 75, passed away at 8:20 P.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 in West Frankfurt.
Mr. Johns was born on March 2, 1926 in Thompsonville to Earl Johns and Amy (Williams) Johns. He was married to Darlene (Mandell) Burns and she survives. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of West Frankfurt and a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sylvia (Shelton) Johns on Feb. 16, 1997 and by a brother, Charles Johns.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Castagna and husband, Jerry, and one granddaughter, Holly Lewis, all of Lake City, FL.; two brothers, Howard Johns of West Frankfurt and Clinton Johns of Metamora, MI.; and three sisters, Eva Summers, Cynthia Case and Marie Adelsberger, all of West Frankfort.

Mrs. Reba Ethlean Douglas Knight, 77 of Lake City died Monday October 29, 2001 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after an extended illness.
Mrs. Knight was born in Union County and lived most of her life in Starke before moving to Lake City 3 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Starke. She was preceded in death by her hus-band, Jasper Sauls and her husband, Chuck Knight.
Mrs. Knight is survived by 3 Sons: Leon Sauls of Lake City; James Sauls of Elgin, South Carolina; Malcolm Sauls of Callahan. 2 Sisters: Lottie Knight and Myradell Lee both of Lake City. 1 Brother: Dewey Douglas of Tallahassee; 8 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren.

Mrs. Wood had lived in Lake City since 1921 coming from Harrisburg, PA. She was of the Baptist faith, and a member of Eastside Baptist Church, Lake City, Florida. Mrs. Wood enjoyed sewing and reading the Bible. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-five years, Charles L. Wood, Sr.

Larry Eugene Shaw "Brown" age 46, a resident of Lake City, Florida, heard his Master's sudden sweet voice and answered the call on Friday morning, October 26, 2001 at Shands of Lake Shore, in Lake City, Florida.
Larry, was a native of Lake City, FL, the son Mrs. Leanna J. Shaw, Lake City, FL and Mr. Clyde Shawn who preceded him in death. Larry was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church of the City, where he faithfully worshiped and thoroughly enjoyed services. Larry attended Richardson High School and graduated with the class of 1972 from Columbia High School. Larry was previously employed with the Columbia County School Maintenance Department for approximately 10 years and was presently employed with Jamison Inn Maintenance Department, Lake City, Florida. Larry loved laughter, church, music, fishing with his brother, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include: His devoted and loving wife of 25 years, Marie Shaw, two sons, Adrian and Kevin Shaw, two daughters Treshonda Nelson and Shemeka Shaw; One brother, David K. Jones; Three sisters, Anita L. Steward, Norma J. Ellis "Bubba" Washington, Jr.
Mr. Ellis "Bubba" Washington, Jr. 39 of Lubbock, Texas died October 25, 2001 after a sudden illness in Jefferson City, TN.
He was born and raised in Lake City and attended the Columbia County Public Schools. At the time of his death he was employed as a professional truck driver.
Survivors are: A devoted fiancee, Latina Jennings, Lubbock, Texas. Mother Ella Mae Gissendanner, Lake City. Father Otis Hendon, Sr., and stepmother, Edna Hendon, Lake City. Sons Taz Washington, Wic., Ricky Pegues, Texas. A daughter Tashiyanna Hall, Lubbock, TX. A sister Diane Baker Hemenway, Lake City. Brothers Stephen (Latricia) Baker, Derrick Hendon, Michael (Lakeshia) Hendon, Otis (LA Retra) Hendon, Jr. and Ormando Williams all of Lake City. Aunts Mary Ann Kite, Julia Mae Allen and Ola Mae Dix, Lake City. Uncle L.J. (Avon) Gainer. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday November 3, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. at the New Day Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. George Francis, officiating. Interment

Mrs. Nina Lee Croft Johns
Mrs. Nina Lee Croft Johns, 80 of Lake Butler died Friday November 2, 2001 at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Johns was born in Union County and has lived her life in the Lake Butler Community. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Pearlie Croft; she and her husband the late Seeber Johns owned and operated the Johns 76 Service Station in Lake Butler for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lake Butler.
She was survived by 3 Daughters: Teresa L. Johns of Ormond Beach; Mary Lee O'Steen of Lake Butler; Sue Stalnaker and her Husband David of Lake Butler. 1 Son: Sam Johns and his wife Aliene of Lake Butler. 3 Brothers: Wilford Croft and Travis Croft both of Providence and Randolph Croft of Lake Butler. 1 Sister: Mildred Crawford of Lake Butler. 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 2:00 PM in the First Christian Church of Lake Butler with Rev. Arthur Peterson and Rev. Terry Cranford officiating, burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Saturday evening.
Avery Ray Miller
Avery Ray Miller, 61, born in Athens, TN. Lived most of his adult life in Lake City where he owned Ray Miller Dental Lab. He moved to Live Oak in 1991. He has been a resident of Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park since 1995. Ray was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Lake City. Ray died in Shands Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City October 31, 2001.
He is survived by two Sons, Raymond Bart Miller and James Brett Miller of Live Oak, his Mother, Callie Miller of Lake City, three Brothers, Charles Miller of Lake City, Allen Miller-TN, Ronnie Miller of Fernandina Beach, two Sisters, Sylvia Mobley of Fort White and Sue Bond of Tallahassee.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 11 A.M. at Bethel United Methodist Church 4 miles South of Lake City on U.S. Hwy 41.
