Robert Ellis Moman
Robert Ellis Moman, age 55, passed away in Albany, Ga. on December 2, 2001, after a brief illness.
He was a paint contractor by trade.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Moman of Punta Gorda, FL, two daughters, Lisa (Scot) Stibers, and Deanna (Brandon) Collins, of West Palm Beach, FL, two stepsons, Jay Mace, Bryan (Monica) Wright, and Kim Mace, his mother, Maryon Moman of Lake City, and a sister Sandra Travis of Lake City, brother, William Moman, of Boardman, Or., two grandchildren and four step grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews, two great nieces and two great nephews also survive.
The family will receive family and friends for a time of remembrance on December 16, 2001, between 2 pm and 4 pm at the home of his sister Sandra Travis.
Jimmie Lee Poppell
Mr. Jimmie Lee Poppell, age 60, of Lake City, Florida, died Friday, December 14, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, Florida following a brief illness. Mr. Poppell was a native of Lake City, Florida and was the son of the late Alvin D. and Catherine Brady Poppell. He was employed as a butcher with Nettles Sausage Company, Lake City,Florida for over twenty years until his death. He was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1959, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge and the American Legion of Lake City, Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda W. Poppell of Lake City, Florida: Two sons, John Poppell of Gainesville, Florida and Matthew Poppell of Atlanta, Georgia: Three step-daughters, Debi Ellis, and Kayrin Wall both of Lake City, Florida and Cindy Chalk of Eustis, Florida: Two sisters, Gloria Jean Bolton and Judy Bednar both of Lake City, Florida: Mr. Poppell was preceded in death by his son, James Dennis Poppell.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 4 P.M. Tuesday, December 18, in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Florida with Rev. Charles Knight officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday, December 17, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 South First Street, Lake City, Florida.
Carl J. Groff, Jr.
Mr. Carl J. Groff, Jr., age 60, of Ft. White, Florida died late Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 2001 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Camden, New Jersey, Mr. Groff had been a resident of Fort White since 1983 having moved from Miami. Florida. Mr. Groff retired from C.S.R. Trucking in 1997 due to his disabling ill health. He was a member of The Eagles, in Palm Bay, Florida. Mr. Groff enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Mr. Groff was preceded in death by his father, Carl Groff, Sr.,and his daughter, Cheri Thompson.
Mr. Groff is survived by his special loved friend, Millie Gambogi of Fort White; a son, Carl J. Groff III (Betsi), Brooksville, Pennsylvania; hi son-in-law, Tommy Thompson, Fort White, Florida; a daughter, Ruth Wallace, Fort White, Florida; his mother Ruth Groff, Fort White, Florida, and his five grandchildren, Heather, Kyle, Kevin, Cody and Meagan.
The family will receive friends at the Biggs Funeral Home in Lake City from 6-8 pm, Monday evening, December 17, 2001. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, December 20, 2001 in the Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 North Gateway Center Blvd., Lake City, Florida, 32024.

Louise P. Mahood
Louise P. Mahood, 86, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Sunday, December 16, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Mahood was a lifelong resident of Lake City, Florida. She was of the Methodist faith was also a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mahood en-joyed gardening and being with her family.
Mrs. Mahood was preceded in death by her first husband, William K. McCall, Sr. and her second husband, Alex Mahood, also preceding her in death are two brothers: Arthur and Clifton Little.
Survivors include three sons: William K. (Patricia) McCall, Jr., Lake City, Florida, Gaston E. (Glenda) McCall, Lake City, Florida, Kenneth A. (Ann) McCall, Lake City, Florida; three sis-ters: Leona Bonds, Ellen Ward and Rosa Wilder all of Lake City, Florida; five brothers: Woodrow Little, George Little, Finley Little, Carl Little and Ralph Little, all of Lake City, Florida. surviving are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mahood will be conducted on Wednesday, December 19, 2001, 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Legler officiating. Interment

Alesha Amber Watson, 10, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Saturday, December 15, 2001 after an extended illness.
Alesha was a lifelong resident of Lake City, and of the Baptist faith. Alesha will be loved and missed by everyone.

Charles Reid Durand
Charles Reid Durand, age 55, died Thursday, December 20, 2001 at the VA Medical Center, Lake City.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Durand lived in Lake City for 2 years having moved from Sebring, FL. Mr. Durand, a Catholic, worked as a tool & die machinist and was Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Part of Mr. Durand's military service included duties on the Navy Ceremony Guard in Washington DC. Mr. Durand was also a member of the VFW and will be remembered by his family as a good and caring man.
Mr. Durand is preceded in death by one son Christopher.
Mr. Durand is survived by his mother, Sarah McCarty of Lake City, two sons, Kevin of Atlanta, GA and Charles, of Long Beach, CA and two sisters, Sally Davis (Jerry) of Downingtown, PA and Helen D. Johnson (Larry) of Eastern Africa.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will be celebrated for Mr. Durand, today, Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 2 PM, at Columbia Funeral Home, Father George Kuruvilla, C.M.I. officiates.

William F. Riley
Mr. William (Bill) F. Riley, age 55, of Lake Butler died Christmas morning after an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Coco, Florida living in Lake Butler for the last 30 years. He was a sargent with the Department of Corrections, where he worked with the New River correctional insti. at Raiford. Over the years (1975 to 1996) Bill worked for the Union County Sheriffs Dept.; was an auxiliary deputy and a member of the Union County Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Anne R. Riley of Lake Butler; his son, Travis Riley of Virginia Beach, Va.; his mother and stepfather, Mae and Vernon Prevatt of Lake City; 2 step-sons, John Wynn and Calvin Height both of Lake Butler; 1 sister, Melissa Harwood of Oklahoma, City and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler with Rev. Terry Cranford officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church in Alachua County, under the direction of ARCHER FUNERAL HOME of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
Vera Parrish Thomas
Mrs. Vera Parrish Thomas, age 67, of Lake Butler, Fla. died Tuesday, Dec. 25, in the Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, Fla. following a brief illness.
Mrs. Thomas was a native of Lake Butler, Fla. and had resided in Lake City, Fla. for over 20 years before moving back to Lake Butler, Fla. six months ago. She was the daughter of the late Rance O. and Amanda Andrews Parrish and the widow of the late Simours L. Thomas. She was employed as a seamstress with the Cadillac Uniform Co., Starke, Fla. for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Huntsville Baptist Church, Columbia County, Fla.
Survivors include her best friend and companion, Leroy M. Crawford of Lake Butler, Fla.: One daughter, Sue Ann (Bobby) Davis of Lake City, Fla.: Five sons, Jerry L. (Speedy) Dukes of Glennville, Ga., Doyle J. (Yun) Waters and Patrick H. (Gloria) Waters both of Lake Butler, Fla., Ronnie B. (Kelly) Waters of Stanton, Iowa and Stanley O. (Tanya) Waters of Lake City, Fla.: Three sisters, Ollie Dunavant, Mary Mann and Ovedia Mann all of Lake Butler, Fla.: One brother, J.S. Parrish of Raleigh, N.C.: Twenty five grand-children, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Tho-mas was preceded in death by her son, Glen A. Waters and an infant daughter Dukes.

Otis A. "Buddy" Ezell Jr.
Mr. Otis A. "Buddy" Ezell Jr. of Lake City died early Tuesday morning, January 1, 2002 in Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City.
A native of Perry, Florida, Mr. Ezell was the son of the late Mr. Otis A. "Pat" Ezell, Sr. and Mrs. Gwendolyn Kirkland Ezell and had live in Lake City since 1982 having moved here from Jacksonville. Mr. Ezell retired as an engineer in 1982 after twenty years of service with the Jacksonville Fire Department where he had also served as an EMT Paramedic with the department. Mr. Ezell attended and graduated from the Jacksonville Fire Academy and was also a member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge #27. Mr. Ezell was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Patrick Ezell and Donald Richmond.
Mr. Ezell is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Mrs. Linda Ezell; one son, matthew Ezell and one daughter, Debra Ezell Morgan (Richard) all of Lake City; one sister, Mrs. Barbara Ezell Whiddon, Fernandina Beach, Fl.; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Naomi Milligan, Lake City and special a special cousin, Betty Poppell, Perry, Florida; two nieces, Debbie Curtis and donna perry, and a nephew, Ronald Whiddon al of Fernandina also survive.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Ezell will be conducted on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at 12:30 p.m., in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Don Legler officiating. Internment will follow. A visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening at the funeral home between the hours of 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. Lucille Bailey, a resident of Live Oak, Florida, passed away on December 30, 2001 in Avalon Health Care Center.
She is survived by four daughters; Lily M. Washington, Florence Philpot, Christine Harvis, and Carolyn Farmer; two sons: Eugene W. Bailey, and John Bailey; two daughters-in-law: Lynee Bailey, and Stacey Bailey, three sons-in-law: E.L. Philpot, Robert Harvis; and Thomas Farmer; two sisters-in-law: Helen Brinson and Bertha Giles; grands, great grands, and great-great grands; and many other close relatives and friends.

Mable Naomi Bryant, 76, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Wednesday January 2, 2002 at the Health Center in Lake City.
Mrs. Bryant was a lifelong resident of Columbia County. She is the daughter of the late Barney and Hattie Parker Coats. She is preceded in death by her husband Burton Bryant and one son: Clark Bryant. Mrs. Bryant was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, Lake City, Florida.
Survivors include three daughters: Car-olyn (Bud) Brady, Lake City, Fl. Jewell (Larry) Ferguson, Tallahassee, Fl. and Doris (Gene) Knight, Lake City, Florida. One son: Mark Bryant, Lake City, Fl. Two Sisters: Stella Warren, Lake City, Florida and Louis Brothers: Bernice Coats,

Sylvester L. Franklin, 91, Native of Columbia County, Hope Henry Community, passed on Friday, December 21, 2001 in Miami, FL, following a lengthy illness.
She is survived by a sister Annie Jones Dotson and many other relatives.

Eva Jane Sistrunk
August 27, 1935 - January 2, 2002
As the new year came in the Lord decided to call one of his precious angels home. Eva, our loving mother and granny spent her last hours at Lake City Medical Center after an extended illness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sistrunk. Eva has lived in Lake City, Florida for 27 years coming from Madison, Florida. Eva was a homemaker, she spent her life unselfishly making everyone happy. She touched everyone she came in contact with.
She is survived by her most valued possessions, her children, grandchildren and family. Sons: Hank (PatsySistrunk,grandchildren: Missy & Brandy Sistrunk; Mike (Kristine) Sistrunk, grandchildren: Ashley, Christopher & Tyler; Timothy Sistrunk, grandchildren: Ethan & Jake; and daughter: Pam (Bernie) Thrift, grandchildren: Mandy, Amber & Tiffany all of Lake City, Florida, also survived by nieces: Lynn Hyde, Angie Fore, Linda Chester, and nephew Robbie Tatum.
Our hearts are burdened but the angels are rejoicing Forever our loving Mother & Granny.

Mrs. Edith Crawford Williams, 84, resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002, in the St. Lucie Medical Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Williams was a native of Columbia City, Florida, daughter of the late Newt and Malga Carpenter Williams, and had resided in Lake City her entire life, prior to moving to south Florida 15 years ago. Mrs. Williams had worked as the Manager of Pursers Pharmacy, in Lake City for 20 years. She was a member of the Athens Baptist Church, Lake City.
Survivors include; Her Husband, Robert A. Williams, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; One Son, Bill (Leslie) Crawford, of Port St. Lucie; Three Step-sons, Robert (Tina) Williams, of Madison, Conn., Alan (Sharon) Williams, of Jupiter, Fla., and Barry (Gretchen) Williams, ofTyler Hill, Penn.; Two Step-daughters, Barbara (Doug) Killane, of Port Lucie,, and Dorothy (Marty) Watts, of Greenville, S.C.; Two Grandchildren, Scott Craw-ford, of San Jose, California, and Amy Crawford, of Orlando; One Great Grandchild, Vivon Crawford, of San Jose. Twenty-two Step Grandchildren and Ten Step Great Grandchildren also survive.

Rachel Norris Dickerson
Rachel Norris Dickerson, 89, a long time resident of the Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, Florida, died January 4, 2002 at the Village after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie V. Dickerson and son, Carey L. Dickerson. Mrs. Dickerson was born in Anderson County, South Carolina and grew up in Hartwell, Georgia. She graduated from high school in Hartwell and attended Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina where she graduated valedictorian at the age of 19. She taught school and was a guidance counselor in Hart and Dougherty Counties, Georgia.
Upon her retirement she moved to Advent Christian Village and performed counseling work for children at the village. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and affiliated with and actively participated in Bixler Memorial Church at Advent Christian Village. Survivors include two brothers, J.R. Norris, Sr., Gastonia, North Carolina and John E. Norris of Lake City, and a sister, Mary N. Carter, Lodge, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Bixler Memorial Advent Christian Church, Dowling Park, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 8, 2002, with the Rev. Ron Thomas officiating. Merkie Hibbard, 80, a resident of Lake City, Florida died January 4, 2002 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hibbard was a native of Barbersville, Kentucky and had lived in Lake City for one year. She is the daughter of the late Enoch and Elizabeth Stamper. She was a homemaker.

Sam David Lucas
Sam David Lucas, 78, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Saturday, January 5, 2002 after an extended illness. Mr. Lucas was a life long resident of Columbia County, born December 16, 1923. He was a member of The Lake City Congregational Holiness Church and had pastored Congregational Holiness Churches of North Florida for over forty years, where during his time as pastor he helped to build two Congregational Holiness Churches. Mr. Lucas al so served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a self employed electrician and self employed pulpwooder.
Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, Patricia Lucas; two daughters: Evalee (Wayne) Church, Lake City, FL, Tara Lucas, Lake City, FL; three sons: Virgil (Irma) Lucas, Lake City, FL Larry (Genevieve) Lucas, Lake City, FL and Charles (Emma) Lucas, Knoxville, TN; three sisters: Mae Pharis, Lake City, FL, Mary Watts, Lake City, FL, Thelma White, Thomasville, GA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Teresa Jett, Virgil Lucas, Jr., Neecee Deckard, Timmy Lucas, Tracy Duckett, Louisa Lucas, Cecilia Lucas and Pricilla Lucas.

Mrs. Estelle Kent Markham, 86, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday, January 6, 2002, at her home, following a long illness. Mrs. Markham was a native of Lee,
Florida, daughter of the late James Levy and Maggie Parrish Kent, and had resided in Lake City for most of her life. She was a homemaker and had owned and operated, along with her late Husband, Mr. Grady D. Markham, the Magnolia Bar-B-Q, in Lake City, for many years.
Mrs. Markham was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, Lake City.
Survivors include; Her Son, Grady "Sam" (Carroll) Markham, of Lake City; One Brother, Ambrose (Kathryn) Kent, of Valdosta, Ga.; Two Sisters, Juanita Strickland, of Tallahassee, and Joyce Watkins of Lake City; Two Grandchildren, Samuel (Merry Jennifer) Markham, DMD, of Gainesville, and Belinda (Chuck) Wood, of Ocala;Two Great Grandchildren, Erica and Hannah Wood, of Ocala.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at 11:00 A.M. in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, with Rev. Joe Butler, pastor of the Parkview Baptist Church, officiating.
