Daphne "Pat" Gammel, 79, of Lake City, pasted away Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in the Lake City Medical Center after a long illness.
The Mayo, FL. native moved to Lake City from Gainesville seventeen years ago, was a homemaker and was of Nazarene faith.
Survivors include: one Daughter, Maureen Gail Lund, Tennessee; two Sons: Erwin L. Gammel,Ocoee, FL and Joseph Alan Gammel, Fort Worth, Texas; four Sisters: Violet "VI" Jennings, Houston, TX, Coris Cannon, Alachua, FL, Wanda Simmons, High Springs, FL, Ila Hammel, Brooksville, FL; three Step-Sisters; two Brothers; Lloyd Hatch, Mayo, FL and Joseph Hatch, Jr., Gainesville, FL; six stepbrothers, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial Graveside Services will be conducted 3:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2002 at Hatchbend Baptist Church Cemetery, Branford, FL.

Luis Garay
Luis Garay, died suddenly at his home Tuesday, January 29, 2002 he was 57.
Mr. Garay was born in Texas and moved to Lake City in 1985 from Zolfo Springs, FL. He was a carpenter until ill health forced his retirement.
Survivors include: sons, Luis Garay of Zolfo Springs; Eric Garay of Washington D.C., Steve Garay of Lakeland, FL, Christopher Garay of Lake Placid, Elliott Garay of Lake Placid, 1 Daughter; Rachel Garay of Ft. Myers; Brothers: Jessie Garay of Rome, GA., Carlos Garay of Zolfo Springs, FL, Victor Garay of Zolfo Springs, FL., Jose Garay of Avon Park, FL., Tito Garay of Avon Park, FL., Jimmy Salazar of High Springs, FL; Sisters: Margarita Solano of Zolfo Springs, FL., Viola Arce of Bowling Green, FL.; Jeannie Aguilar of Zolfo Spring, FL. 7 grandchildren also survive.

Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson, age 69 resident of Daytona Beach, FL. died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Halifax Convalescent Center Daytona Beach, FL.
Born in Lake City, Columbia County, he was a resident of New York, prior to relocating to Daytona in 1990. He was formerly employed at the Blues Bank and was a member of Mt. Mission Baptist Church. He was a 1952 graduate of Richardson High School in Lake City and was an honorable discharged Vietnam Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Connie Jackson; 4 daughters, Valarie McCoy, Bridgette Wallace, both of
Daytona Beach, FL. Patricia Jackson, Talla, FL. and Caroline Howell, Hinesville, GA. 2 sisters, Ger- aldine Rentz, Lake City, FL. and Justine Richardson, Eatonville, FL.; 4 brothers, Silas Jackson, Daytona Beach, FL. George Jackson, Apopka, FL., Gerald Jackson, Jacksonville, FL. and James Jackson, Orlando, FL. 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

Frank Jones
Frank Jones, age 84 resident of 640 Patterson Street Lake City, FL. died Friday, January 25, 2002 at his residence.
He was the son of the late Mr. Namon Jones & Mrs. Selena Alexander Jones.
He received his education in the public schools of Columbia County and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Jones, relocated to Miami, FL. in 1938 where he resided until his return to Columbia County in 2000.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Vonceil Jones, Lake City, FL. and Juanita Jones Peoples (William F.) Palo Alto, Calf., 1 brother Henry Jones, Jamaica, N.Y.; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral Services for Frank Jones, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church with Rev. Mark Crutcher Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Monticello, FL.

Lue Annie King
Lue Annie King, 71, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Shands at Lake Shore Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her son, Wesley Hoil Lindsey.
She is survived by three daughters: Pauline Edwards, Charlene Pace Shaw and Rose Catledge all of Lake City, Florida; three sons: James Michael Lindsey, Rome, Georgia, Richard Eugene Lindsey and Jimmy Carl Lindsey both of Lake City, Florida; three sisters: Pauline Trowell, Margaret Bustion & Eloise Register all of Lake City, Florida; one brother: William Morgan, Wellborn, Florida. Also surviving are twelve grandchil- dren and eleven great grand- children.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. King on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 4:00 P.M. at the Hopewell Cemetery with Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home. Friday evening, February 1, 2002 from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M.

Wesley Hoil Lindsey
Wesley Hoil Lindsey, 45, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 after a brief illness.
Mr. Lindsey was born August 10, 1956 and had lived in Lake City all of his life. Mr. Lindsey is the son of the late Hoil Richard Lindsey and Lue Annie King. He is survived by three sisters: Pauline Edwards, Charlene Pace Shaw and Rose Catledge all of Lake City, Florida; three brothers: James Michael Lindsey, Rome, Georgia, Richard Eugene Lindsey and Jimmy Carl Lindsey both of Lake City, Florida. Many other relatives also survive.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Lindsey will be conducted on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 4:00 P.M. in the Hopewell Cemetery with Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, evening, February 1, 2002 from 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.

Patti Shaw Rawls
Memorial services for the late Patti Shaw Rawls, age 51 resident of Lynwood, Washington and former resident of Lake City, Fla. will be Saturday 1:00 P.M., February 2, 2002 at The Garden of Rest Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Troupe, officiating.
She worked on various jobs in- cluding Social Services, Emporium, and the San Francisco Housing Authority. Upon her return to Lake City, she worked for Occidental Chemical Company, and the U.S. Postal Service. She remained in Florida for more than fourteen years, then returned to San Francisco in 1997.
Survivors include her husband,Clifford Rawls (Dicky Boy); Lake City, Fla.; mother Ethel McCarrell, San Francisco, CA: father, Robert L. Timmons, Lake City, FL.; 1 son Sgt. Patrick Shaw; 1 daughter, Jamie Robin Shaw; brothers, Will Henry McCarrell, Herman Shaw, Robert L. Timmons, Jr. (Francis), Vince, Handy (Trina), George (Sharon), Tommie, Morris, Arthur (Nesby), and Ronald Timmons (Linda) all of Lake City, Fla.; Sisters, Dawn Shaw, Letha Troupe (Rev. Kenneth), Mary Henry (Edmond) Betty Griffin, Pinkie Timmons, Denise Mayo (Ricky), and Dorothy Harris (Ennis); 1 aunt, Ionia Simmons; 4 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Johannes Hans Valk
Johannes Hans Valk, 71, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 29, 2002.
Hans was born in Medan, Sumatra to Dutch parents and was one of nine children. He immigrated to the United States in 1955 after earning a degree in engineering. He was an engineer for several companies working on the manned space program during the 1960's and was proud to have worked directly on the design of the Apollo spacecraft.
He later worked in the phosphate industry in Lakeland, Florida, Occidental Industries of White Springs, Florida, and most recently in real estate in the Lake City area. Hans was a kind and generous man who has donated time and effort to local children's education programs, The United Fund, and Guardian Ad Litem Program, "Court Advocates For Abused Children". Hans was beloved by all around him, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a long-time member of the Ba'hai faith.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, three sons, Dirk (Barbara) Valk of Lakeland, Florida, Adriaan (Christina) Valk, Franklin, Tennessee & Kris (Amy) Valk of Atlanta, Georgia, two step-children, Robert Thompson of Alpharetta, Georgia and Lyn (Joseph) Johnson of Cummin, Georgia, three sisters, Maria Oakes of Hamilton, Ohio, Tineke Raleigh of Clearwater, Florida and Carla Hoffma of Haute Nendaz, Switzerland.
Graveside Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 11:00 A.M., at the Philippi Baptist Cemetery, Lake City, Florida. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, February 1, 2002 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Patricia Ann Johnson
Patricia Ann Johnson, age 40, died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at the Lake City Medical Center, Lake City.
Born in Plant City, FL, Mrs. Johnson lived in White Springs for 21 years having moved from Plant City.
Mrs. Johnson, a Christian, was a homemaker who was regarded by family and friends as a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
Surviving Mrs. Johnson is her husband of 21 years, Bruce; her father, Robert C. Moore of Plant City, one daughter, Wendy Rae Russell, three brothers, Robert H. Moore of Louisiana, James Moore of Tampa and Mark Moore of Florida, two sisters April Perken and Tracy both of Florida and two special friends, Ali-cia Mullens and Pat Dunning both of Lake City.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Johnson will be celebrated, Thursday, February 7, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at Columbia Funeral Home.

Wilfred Harvey Pinkston
Wilfred Harvey Pinkston, age 82, died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Shands at Lake Shore Hospital, Lake City.
Born in Curry Town, NC, Mr. Pinkston lived in Lake City since 1993 having moved from Inverness, FL. Mr. Pinkston, a Catholic and member of the Epiphany Catholic Church, was a retired supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service in Tampa.
Mr. Pinkston was an Army veteran who was present at the invasion of Pearl Harbor and al-so served in the Korean War.
His wife Beatrice and one son, Kevin precedes Mr. Pinkston in death.
Surviving Mr. Pinkston are one daughter, Kathryn (Burt) Brennan of Greensboro, NC, one brother, Clyde S. Pinkston (Arlene) of Mooresville, NC and one sister Emma Satterfield of Lake City.
Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

Letha Mae Bivens Corbitt
Letha Mae Bivens Corbitt, 92, of Lake Butler died Sunday morning at the Health Center of Lake City after a brief illness. She was born in Providence, living most of her life in Manatee County, she was living in providence at the time of her death. She had worked in the fruit business until she retired. She is a member of the Providence Village Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex Corbett.
She is survived by one brother: Alfred Bivens of Lake Butler, and her caregiver and sister-in-law: Hazel Bivens Rhoden of Lake Butler. Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in the Providence Village Baptist Church with Rev. Bo Hammoc officiating. Burial will follow in Phillippi Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler. Family will received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M.Monday evening.

Annie Ree Thomas
Annie Ree Thomas, 85, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Friday, February 1, 2002, in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital, following a long illness.
Mrs. Thomas was a native of Clarkesville, Florida, daughter of the late Martin and Annie Adkins, and had resided in Lake City for most of her life. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Baldwin High School, Class of 1934, and after receiving her teaching certificate, taught school for a short time. Mrs. Thomas had worked as a tailor, and was a charter member of the "Candy Stripers" in the Yorks Hospital, which later became the Lake City Medical Center. She had volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, as a Youth Foster Mother at Dowling Park and as a Guidance Supervisor at the Trenton Detention Center. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lake City 2nd Ward, where she had held many leadership positions, such as President of the Relief Society, Sunday School Teacher, as well as working as a Temple worker in the Atlanta and Orlando Temples. Survivors include; Two Daughters, Selwia Ann (Richard) Chapple, of Lake City, and Betty Ann Csercsics, of Grover Beach, Calif.; One Brother, Charlie P. Adkins, of Chiefland; One Sister, Leona Barker, of Lake City; Seven Grandchildren James W. (Wenona) Tweeddale, of Fredericksburg Va., Karen Tweeddale-Chapple, of Lake City, Charles William McCleod, and Janelle D. (John) Padinger, both of Ft. Atkinson,Wis., Richard J. (Anne) Chapple, of Jacksonville, Randall M. (Susan) Chapple, of Napperville, Ill., and Tracy Y. Chapple, of South Carolina. Seventeen Great Grandchildren and One Great-Great Grandson, also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 4, 2002, at 2:00 P.M., in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lake City, with Bishop Laverne Brannon, officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Sunday, February, 3, 2002, from 4 to 6 P.M., at the funeral home. Memorial Donations should be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Second Ward, Missionary Fund, 706 Old Country Club Road, Lake City, Florida 32025. Freda Dyson Pickens
Freda Dyson Pickens, 83, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Monday, February 4, 2002, at her home, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Pickens was a native of Pecan Island, Louisiana, daughter of the late Peter and Eula Morgan Dyson, and had resided in Lake City, since 1946. Mrs. Pickens was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana University. Mrs. Pickens was a licensed Realtor, and had owned and operated, along with her late Husband, the Phillip Pickens Agency. She was preceded in death by her Brother-in-Law, Robert "Bobby" Pickens, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City.
Survivors include; Two daughters, Mary Ellen (James) Bolton, and Freda Ann Pickens, both of Lake City; Two Granddaughters, Beverly (Jim) Ott, of Deland, and Brenda (Robby) Acosta, of Cullowhee, N.C.; Two Great Granddaughters, Steffany Ott, of Deland, and Brittany Acosta, of Cullowhee, N.C.; Two Brothers, J.C. Dyson, of Lake City, and L.M. Dyson, of Waco, TX.; One Sister, Bergna Koch, of Pecan Island, La.
At the request of Mrs. Pickens, private family services were conducted Tuesday, February 5, 2002, in Memorial Cemetery, with her neighbor and friend Rev. Lowell VanVleck, officiating. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the First Baptist Church, Kitchen Fund, 206 East Orange Street Lake City, Florida 32055. Alice Paulette Robey
Mrs. Alice Paulette Robey, age 44 of Ft. White, died early Sunday morning February 3, 2002 in the Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville following an extended illness.
A native of Miami, Mrs. Robey had been a resident of Ft. White for the past twelve years having moved here from Miami. Mrs. Robey had most recently been employed with the Columbia County Senior Services Center in Lake City. Some hobbies that Mrs. Robey enjoyed were helping the elderly, mud bogging and she loved animals very much. Mrs. Robey was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Robey is survived by a special friend, Mr. Howey Leo Feagle, Ft. White and her three sons, Mr. Walter Edward Robey, Ft. White, Mr. Gary Dean Robey, Lake City and Mr. Robert Andrew James, Jr. Ft. Walton Beach.
Funeral services for Mrs. Robey will be conducted on Thursday, February 7, 2002 in the Biggs Me- morial Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will follow in the WilliamsonTyre Cemetery in Lulu.
Visitation with the family will be between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday evening.

Johnnie F. Cribbs, Jr.
Mr. Johnnie F. Cribbs, Jr., 66, of Lake City, died Thursday afternoon in the Specialty Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, following an extended illness.
A native of Deland, Florida, Mr. Cribbs had been a resident of Lake City for the past twenty years having moved here from Ohio. Mr. Cribbs was a retired pipe fitter having worked in the construction industry most of his life. He loved to fish and do wood work in his spare time. Mr. Cribbs was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Cribbs is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Evelyn Royals Cribbs; three step-sons, Eugene Royals (Nancy); Danny Royals (Cynthia); Chris Royals, all of Lake City; four step-daughters, Martha Crafton (Joe), Pinetta, Florida; Linda Roady (Chris), Tallahassee; Rosa Chambliss (Larry); Amelia Island, Florida; Tammy Kavanaugh of Lake City; and a sister, Lois Brannon of Deland, Florida. Twelve grand-children and six great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Cribbs was predeceased by his granddaughter, Melissa Chambliss.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cribbs will be conducted at 3:00 p.m.., Monday, February 11, 2002, in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Norman officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First St., Lake City.

Rodger Dale Geurin
Rodger "Rabbit" Dale Geurin, 42, resident of High Springs, Florida died Tuesday, February 6, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Geurin was born in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Charles & Jewell Geurin. Mr. Geurin had lived in High Springs, Florida since 1984 coming from St, Louis, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, drawing and was an inventor. He is preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Wayne Guerin, Mr. Geurin is survived by his son, Shawn McKinley of High Springs, Florida, two brothers, Charles Richard Geurin of Chesapeake, Virginia, Danny Wendel Geurin of High Springs, Florida, a sister, Lottie Sue Goff of Tuckerman, Arkansas, also three nieces, two nephews and a great nephew, two aunts and an uncle.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 616 South Marion Street, Lake City, Florida.

Effie Mae "Sunny" Shackelford
Mrs. Effie Mae "Sunny" Shackelford of Lake City, died early Thursday morning in the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida following an extended illness.
A native of Palatka, Florida, she was the daughter of the late William and Effie Cramer Gross.
Her father was a pharmacist and her mother worked with him in the Gross Pharmacy in Palatka. Sunny graduated from Mellon High School in 1939, she attended the Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. She married Mr. David R. "Pete" Shackelford in 1942. She had been a resident of Lake City since 1945. Mrs. Shackelford was a secretary at Aero for several years and was a wonderful homemaker. She was busy in community activities and was named the Lake City Reporter's Woman of the Year in 1976. During the 1976 Bicentennial celebration she was chairperson of the Week of Excellence during which people were honored in their field. She was an original subscriber to the Columbia County Library Foundation. She was an original subscriber to the Columbia County Library Foundation. She served as secretary and on the Zoning board of the foundation. Sunny was very active in the First Presbyterian Church. She served as secretary to the Women of the Church, she was chairperson for the Spiritual Life & Worship Committee, she served on the World Mission Committee, Bible Study Leader, Mission Haven, co-chair of the Dorcas Circle and she served as the President of her Sunday School Class. Mrs. Shackelford was predeceased by her husband, Pete Shackelford in 1992.
Mrs. Shackelford is survived by her son, David R. "Shack" Shackelford, Jr., Lake City; a daughter, Sheri S. Harper (Lewis), Lake City; two sisters, Charlotte Roselle, Gainesville, Florida; Kathryn Harper, St. Augustine, Florida; two granddaughters, Priscilla Luttendon, Tallahassee, Florida; Allison Register, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a Great-Grandaughter, Taylor Luttendon of Tallahassee, Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews and her church family also survive.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Shackelford will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2002, in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Roy A. Martin officiating. Private family interment services will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 469, Lake City, Florida 32056.

Alan J. Bohling
Alan J. Bohling, born April 2, 1985 in Aurora, Colorado, died February 11, 2002 in Atascocita, Texas.
A resident of Atascocita for 3 years, Alan was a Junior at Humble High School. He was employed part-time by AMC Theaters at Deerbrook Mall since April of 2001.
Alan is survived by his mother, Janet Carranza and her husband, Roel; father, James Bohling and his wife, Kelly; grandparents, Ronald and Alice Anderson, Radford and Hilda Harvey, Stanley and Mercedes Carranza; brother Adam Bohling; step-brothers, Chris Carranza and Jesse Soper; step-sister, Lauren Soper, uncle Michael Bohling; aunts, Joan Herring and Jean Ann Calhoun, cousins, Carrie & Allison Douglass, Brandi Calhoun, Chris & Abigail Herring, Eva & Heather Bohling; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, February 15, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Kingwood Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2002 at St. Mary Magdaline Catholic Church, 527 S. Houston Ave., Humble, TX with Msgr. Paul Pro-cella, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Rosewood Cemetery in Humble.

William Wilson Davis
William Wilson Davis, 56, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Tuesday February 12, 2002 at the North Florida Regional Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Davis was a native of Bonifay, Florida and had resided in Lake City for the past forty years. He is the son of the late Willie and Gladys Dees Davis and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Davis, Lake City, Fl Two Sons: Donald Davis, Lake City, Florida and Eric (Misty) Davis, White Springs, Florida One sister: Elaine Sanders, Palatka, Florida Three brothers: Levy "Bud" Davis, Starke, Florida, Clifford Davis, Palatka, Florida and Herman Davis, Interlachen, Florida. Seven grand -children also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday February 15, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. in the Sherrill-GuerryMemorial Chapel with the Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn, officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Lake City, Florida.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday at the Funeral Home. SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME 616 S. Marion Street, Lake City, Florida is in charge of all arrangements.
