Charles Emmett Waldrop
Charles Emmett Waldrop, White Springs, Florida, age 74, passed away March 14, 2002 at Baptist Medical Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Graveside rites will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday in Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton, Georgia. Rev. Doug Maloney will be officiating at the service. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. Saturday night at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born June 2, 1927 in Tifton County, Georgia, he was the son of Julius Grover Waldrop and Dollie Morris Waldrop, both deceased. He was educated in Tifton Schools and excelled in sports, especially football. He attended Georgia Military College and then served two years in Military Service in Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of White Springs United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Waldrop of White Springs, Florida, a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Donald Adams, Thomson, Georgia, two sons and a daughter-in-law: David Lee & Fariba
Waldrop and Joseph Doyle Waldrop, all of Washington, D.C.. Also survived by two grandsons and two granddaughters. He is also survived by one sister, Frances Waldrop Barfield of Tifton, and one brother, Edward Waldrop, Four Oaks, Texas. Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Lonnie Ward Carpenter, 87, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Carpenter was a native of Bradford, Florida, son of the late Dennis and Daisy Woodward Carpenter, and had resided in Lake City, since 1953. Mr. Carpenter had worked as a Mill Foreman for Daniels Lumber, Inc., for many years, prior to his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Lake City. He was preceded in death by his first Wife, Leona Hunt Carpenter, by one Son, Robert Leon Carpenter, and on Daughter, Betty Elizabeth Carpenter.
Survivors include; His Wife Susie W. Tompkins Carpenter; Three Daughters, Wardene Brady, of Lake City, Mary Ann (Rodney R.) Nettles, of Baraga, MT, and Sandra (Charles) Thomas, of Branford; One Son, Dennis (Barbara) Carpenter, of Lake City; Two Step-Daughters, Suzanne Tompkins, and Lonnie-Jean (Joe) Haltiwanger, both of Lake City; Grandchildren, Johnny Ray Brady, Wayne Brady, Gwen Hellriegel, Dennis O'Steen, Kevin Carpenter, Kim Carpenter, John Nettles, LaVoye Baker, Ken Thomas, Tonya Chandler, and Breck Thomas; Step-Grandchildren Jodi Kelly, and Julie Haltiwanger; Twenty-seven Great Grandchildren and Four Great-Great Grandchildren; Sister, Jeanette Decker, of Old Town; daughter-in-law Raymona E. Tecola Bell Atkinson, 79, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Friday March 15, 2002 at the Suwannee Valley Nursing Center, Jasper, Florida after an extended illness.
Mr. Atkinson was a native of Gaston, Alabama and resided in Lake City for the past sixty years. She is the daughter of the late Joe and Lola James Patterson. Mrs. Atkinson had retired as a Nursing Assistant.
Survivors include Two Sons: Rusty (Tammy) Atkinson, Jennings, Florida and Dewey (April) Atkinson, Wichita, Kansas. One Daughter: Tammy Robertson, Lake City, Florida. Numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren also survive.

Carol Little Tritton, 67, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at her home, following a long illness.
Mrs. Tritton was a native of Miami, Florida, daughter of the late Lester and Wilda Little, and had resided in Ft. Lauderdale, for many years, prior to moving to Lake City, in 1972. Mrs. Tritton was a homemaker and a member of the Lake City First Assembly of God.
Survivors include; Her Husband of 47 years, Charles Lee Tritton; One Son, James Lee Tritton, both of Lake City; One Sister, Margie Jennings, of Greenville, South Carolina. John Stephens
John Stephens, 71, of 1160 Jefferson Street, Lake City, Florida, departed this life on Friday, March 15, 2002.
He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Elder and leatha Stephens on November 24, 1930.
He accepted Christ at an early age. John was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
After retiring from North Florida Concrete in 1993 with 30 years of dedicated service, he later went to work for the Columbia County Sheriff's Department.
To cherish his memories, he leaves his devoted and loving wife, Lee ann, five children and numerous relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m. at New Day Spring Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1321 West Long Street, Lake City, Florida, Rev. George Francis, Pastor.

Robert E. Lewis
Robert E. Lewis, 76, of McAlpin, passed away Friday, March 22, 2002 at his daughters home in McAlpin.
Mr. Lewis was a Missouri native, moved to McAlpin in 1989. He was a Boiler Maker for the Capitol Machine Co. in Indianapolis, Indiana before retiring after nearly 50 years. He was a member of the Boiler Makers Union in Kansas City.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Lillian Lewis of McAlpin; four daughters, Margaret Kidwell of McAlpin, Roberta Kay Ferguson of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Linda Pass and Amanda Bruenger both of Lake City; three sons, Earl Stanley Lewis of St. Louis, Missouri, Robert Eugene Lewis of Live Oak and Randy Lewis of Lake City; two sisters, Lula Bohnart of Sikeston, Missouri and Rosemary Shaw of Bertrand, Missouri; two brothers, Glen Earl Lewis of Mesa, Arizona and Donnie Ray Lewis of Orlando; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren also survives. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his mother and father, step-mother, eight brothers and one sister.

Joe Edward Lashley, Jr.
Joe Edward Lashley, Jr., 58, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Lake City Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Lashley was a life-long resident of Lake City, Florida. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Lashley was also a member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #893.
Mr. Lashley retired from the V.A. Hospital in 2001 after twenty years of service. Prior to working with the V.A. Hospital he was also employed by Manning-Courson Electric for twelve years.
Mr. Lashley is preceded in death by his father, Joe Edward Lashley, Sr., his mother, Lucille Ida Moore, and his stepfather, Marion Maxwell Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette Elizabeth Lashley, Lake City, Florida; two sons: David Lashley, Lake City, Florida; Andy Lashley, Birmingham, Alabama; three brothers: James C. Lashley, Live Oak, Florida, Marion Lewis Moore, Ocala, Florida, Frank Kenneth Moore, Lake City, Florida; mother-in-law: Eula M. Barfuss, Live Oak, Florida; three grandchildren: John David Lashley, Joe Edward Lashley and James Michael Lashley.
Also surviving are eight very close brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws; twenty nieces ad nephews; one aunt and one uncle.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Lashley on Wednesday, March 27, 2002, 11:00 A.M. in the Huntsville Methodist Cemetery with Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn and Rev. Charles Knight officiating.

Mrs. Margarette Chaffee, 73, a resident of Lake City, Florida, died Monday March 25, 2002, due to illness.
A daughter, Patricia Hollihan, Dayton, Ohio, preceded Mrs. Chaffee in death. Mrs. Chaffee is survived by two sons, Steven Peters, Lake City, Florida; Danny McGee, Ft. Myers, Florida; One daughter, Susan Lambert, Lake City, Florida; One sister; Fran West, Okeechobee, Florida; Two brothers, Joe Burrus, Lake Butler, Florida; Tommy Burrus, Belle Glade, Florida. One aunt, Nan Murphree, Lake Placid, Florida. Thirteen precious grandchildren and three precious great grandchildren also survive.

Mother Delia Simmons, age 89 resident of Lake City, Fla. died Monday March 25, 2002 at North Florida Specialalty Care Center, Gainesville, Fla. terminating an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Columbia County and was the daughter of the late Edward & Lottie Duncan. In 1930 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Guerry Simmons, who preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Church Mother, until her health failed.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Jessie Mae Washington, Alachua, Fla.; Nora (Hayward) McGuire, Lake City, Fla. and Eura Lee Bryant, who preceded her in death.; 5 sons, Shelly (Easter) Simmons, Gainesville, George Simmons, Don (Eartha) Simmons & Roy (Barbara) Simmons, all of Lake City, Fla.; Freddie Joe Simmons, preceded her in death; Henry Bryant, Orlando, Fla. grandson, raised like her son.; 1 sister-in-law, Ola Duncan, of Lake City, Fla.; Special friend, Mrs. Inez Watson, Ft. Clarice Brinkley Bryan, 87, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in a local nursing home facility. Mrs. Bryan was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and is a member of the Lake City Church of Christ. Mrs. Bryan was a homemaker and the owner/operator of a nursery in Lake City, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Monroe Bryan; two sons, Allen and Joe Lee Bryan and two brothers, Leo Brinkley and Marvin Brinkley.
Survivors include one son: Larry (Martha) Bryan, Lake City, Florida; two sisters; Evelyn B. Witt, Lake City, Florida and Merle B.Roberts, Lake City, Florida; two grand-daughters: Lanette Thompson and Mandy Flint; and one step-grand-daughter Lisa Amparo. Also surviving is four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Clyde Sullivan
Mr. Clyde Sullivan, 67, of Ft. White died Monday, March 25, 2002.
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. Sullivan had lived in the Lake City area for the past fifty years having moved here from Lee, Florida.
Mr. Sullivan was the owner and operator of the Sullivan's Meat Market in Lake City for nearly forty years and also a member and Past Master of the Lake City Masonic Lodge #27 and The Morroco Temple and Lake City Shrine Club. Mr. Sullivan was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War and served in the Medical Corp. In his spare time, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed fishing and wood working, but most of all spending time with his four year old daughter Salena.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife, Jenifer Kinard Sullivan, Ft, White, one son, Clyde John Sullivan, Jr. (Lee), Branford, three daughters, Martha Parker (Jeffrey) and Dawn Croft both of Lake City, and Salena Amber Sullivan of Ft. White; father and mother-in-law, Earl and Jean Kinard of Ft. White; Four grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Sullivan will be conducted on Friday, March 29, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lake City with Bishop Stanley Leavitt officiating. Interment
will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Lake Butler.

Mr. James Mack Turner, age 74, of Lake City, Fla. died Wednesday, March 27, at his daughters home in Overland Park, Kansas.
Mr. Turner was a native of Russellville, Alabama. He had been a meteorologist with Pan Am Airways for 15 years and retired from Bethlehem Steel after 20 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Lake City, Fla., an Air Force veteran and a member of the United Steelworkers of America.
Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mildred Price Turner of Lake City, Fla.; One daughter, Becky Ellis of Overland Park, Kansas; One sister, Ouida Britton of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Bobbie Rooker Phillips, 78 passed away sunday march 31, 2002 in the Hospice House, Gainesville, Florida.
Born in Bainbridge, Georgia November 20, 1923, Bobbie was the daughter of the late Carl and Beulah Bivan Booker. She is survived by one daughter, Sunny Carol Phillips of Tallahassee FL. She was a homemaker and the wife of, the late A. Jack Phillips. Her accomplishments include administration assistant to the President and teller of Phifer State Bank, Gainesville, FL, bookkeeper and teller of Branford State Bank, Branford, FL, clerk for Phillips & Son Insurance Co., Branford, FL, billing clerk for Ward Fertilizer Co., Branford, FL, message mother and information clerk for the House of Representatives, Tallahassee, FL for 37 years. She graduated high school with the class of 1942 in High Springs, FL, attended Lake City Community College, her hobbie include needle point, bridge, travel and reading. Personal honors include, U.S. Air Force Defense Team, Presidential Citation during World War II, United Service Organization Hostess, House and Senate Resolution Commendation, City of Tallahassee, Florida Citation, and an extensive community service consisting of, order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 112, Branford, FL, Branford Woman's Club, Branford Parent-Teacher Association President, Girl Scouts of America Leader, Florida Children's' Commission of Suwannee County, Suwannee River Regional Library Board Member, American Red Cross, Florida Cancer Drive, First Baptist Church and Advisory Committee of Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, FL.

Dona Cooper, 89, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Friday March 29, 2002 at her home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Cooper was a native of Lincoln County, West Virginia and had resided in Lake City for the past forty years. She was a homemaker and is preceded in death by a son Noah Bragg. She was a member of the North Lake City Church of God.

Virginia M. Bethea
Mrs. Virginia M. Bethea, 83, of Lake City, died early Sunday morning, March 31, 2002, in the Health Center nursing facility following an extended illness.
A native of Columbia County, Mrs. Bethea was the daughter of the late Thomas and Susan Croft Norris.
She lived in West Palm Beach for a few years, but returned to Lake City in 1951.
She was a retired seamstress having worked for Guerdon Industries of Lake City for many years.
Mrs. Bethea was a member of the World Wide Church of God in Gainesville & attended the North Lake City Church of God.
Her favorite hobby was her grandchildren.
Mrs. Bethea was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Bethea.
Mrs. Bethea is survived by two sons, Kenneth W. Bethea (Melody), Lake City, William H. Edleman, (Trish) Tyler, Texas; and two sisters, VeraBelle Coleman, Jacksonville, Florida; and Hazel D. Ogden of Floral City, Florida.
Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bethea will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 3, 2002, in the North Lake City Church of God with Pastor Barney Hurst and Rev. Eddie Norris, officiating. Interment
will follow in the Siloam Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
