Mazie M. Smith
Mrs. Mazie M. Smith, 83 of Lake City died Sunday evening, April 14, 2002 at the Lake City Medical Center.
A native of Skinners Eddy, Pennyslvania, Mrs. Smith had lived in Lake City for the past twelve years having moved from Orangeburg, South Carolina . Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church and also a United States veteran of the Womens Army Corp during World War II. Some hobbies that Mrs. Smith enjoyed were knitting and doing crossword puzzles. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her hus-band of fifty two years, Mr. Benny F. Smith, on Saturday, April 13, 2002.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one son, Dan Smith (Debbie) of Jack-sonville, two grandsons, Justin C. and Kyle D. Smith both of Jacksonville andone niece, Nancy Comstock of New York City, New York.
A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. in the Evergreen Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Tyre officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bernard L. Splichal, Jr
Bernard L. Splichal, Jr., son of Bernard L. and Margaret R. Splichal of Lake City, FL, died April 13, 2002 of complications from treatment of lung cancer. Splichal, 55, a field en-gineer for Sony Corp., died at his home in Stone Mountain, GA.
A 1965 graduate of Mount de Sales High School in Macon, GA, Splichal attended the University of Nebraska, where he played freshman football for the Cornhuskers. He also attended Lake City Community College before joining the U.S. Air Force and training as a television engineer at Fort Monmouth, NJ. He was stationed in Adana, Turkey, and Panama City, FL, before leaving the service in 1969 to return to college.
Splichal worked in television at Santa Fe Community College and the University of Florida in Gainesville as well as several commercial TV stations and production compa- nies before joining Sony, based in Atlanta.
Sony's involvement in television coverage of the Olympics took Splichal around the world as a member of the company's technical support staff. He remained active with Sony until his death, but missed this years Olympics due to his cancer treatments.
Splichal was born in Vicksburg, Miss, on Feb. 7, 1947, while his father, a career serviceman, was stationed in Japan after World War II. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow, and was active in high school sports and drama. Later in life, he focused on family, relishing the role of husband, stepfather and "big brother" to six siblings and 10 nieces and nephews. He also loved fishing, and spent time when he could in Cedar Key, Fl, where many important family events took place over the years.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Gloria, and stepson Brad; and his six brothers and sisters: Ann Amos, Jerry Splichal and Cathy Splichal, all of Gainesville; Sig Splichal of Miami; Jan Splichal of Union, KY; and Beth Splichal of Atlanta.
Private Memorial Services will be held in Atlanta and Cedar Key, FL.

Florence Hall Terry
Mrs. Florence Hall Terry, age 94, of Lake City, Fla. died Wednesday, April 17, in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital, Lake City, Fla. fol-lowing a long illness.
Mrs. Terry was a native of the Brenton Community of Columbia County and had resided in Lake City, Fla most of her life. She was the daughter of the late James A. and Sarah Crews Hall and the widow of the late Harry H. Terry. She was the owner and operator of Mary's Diner in Lake City, Fla. during the 1940s and 1950s. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church, Lake City, Fla.
Survivors include her step-son, Billy W. Terry of Lancaster, California; One brother: J. Lonnie (Lo- ta) Hall of Lake City, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, April 22, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Herman Hampton, Associate Pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Linda Marie Waters
Linda Marie Waters, 56 years old, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2002 following a brief illness in Acworth, Georgia.
Survivors include her mother: Marsha Kerzyzanski; Two brothers:
Stanley Kerzyzanski and David Kersyzanski; Two sisters: Katherine Coax and Carol Mabry; Children: Debbie Alexander, Amy Kendall, Lisa Peppers, Jennifer Smith, James L. Waters, Jr., and Michael Waters and 11 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held April 18, 2002 at 7:30 pm at the Collins Funeral Home, Acworth, Georgia.

Mrs. Etta Lucille Daniels Brown
Mrs. Etta Lucille Daniels Brown, age 77, of Lake City, Florida died Saturday, April 20, in the Health Center of Lake City, Florida following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Boston, Georgia and had resided in Monticello, Florida before moving to Lake City, Florida in 1947. She was the daughter of the late James T. and Alma Cobb Daniels and the widow of the late Harry E. Brown. She was the former owner and operator of Brown Dodge Corp. and Brown Tire Company of Lake City, Florida. She was a graduate of Monticello High School, a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, Florida, a past president of the Quail Heights Ladies Golf Association and served with the Girl Scout's of America as a neighborhood cookie chairman.
Survivors include her daughter, Tracy (Ernest) Ogden of Lake City, Florida: Her son, Robert "Bob" Brown and wife Carol of Lake City, Florida: Four sisters, Mae Reed and Betty (Milton) Stocker both of Thomasville, Georgia, Dean (Bill) Boyton of Mobile, Alabama and Kate Jones of Tallahassee, Florida: One brother, L.S. (Mamie Lou) Daniels of Valdosta, Georgia: Grandchildren, Susan (Tim) Touchton, Chris Coleman, Brandi Brown, Kathy Ogden and Hillary Ogden all of Lake City, Florida and Michael (Desi) of Sand Springs, Oklahoma: Three great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her son, Jim Brown and brothers, J.T. Daniels, Jr., Horace Daniels and Jasper Daniels.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, April, 23, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Frances Jane Hatfield Blay
Mrs. Frances Jane Hatfield Blay, wife of the late Sydney George Blay, age 80, of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday,April 21, 2002, at the Lake City Medical Center, following an extended illness. She was born in Macon, Georgia, on July 30, 1921, to Benjamin Emory Hatfield, Sr., and Frances Caroline Jordan Hatfield. She lived in Monticello, Georgia, until 1937, when she and her family moved to Mayo, Florida, where she graduated from Lafayette High School in 1938. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1942. After graduating from college, she met Sydney George Blay, then serving in the United States Navy. They were married in Live Oak, Florida, in 1944. Following the Second World War, Frances and Sydney settled in Lake City, where they resided for over 50 years.
Mrs. Blay taught school in Live Oak, Florida, and Yulee, Florida before beginning a long teaching career in Lake City, where she taught English at Columbia High School for over twenty years. She retired from teaching in 1978 and she and Sydney spent their retirement years traveling throughout the United States and Europe, spending time with their grandchildren, and volunteering many hours with their church, First Baptist of Lake City.
Mrs. Blay was an active member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving two terms as Regent. she was also a member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Mrs. Blay was a lifelong Baptist, active with the Women's Missionary Society, a member of several Sunday school classes, most recently the Charity Sunday School Class at First Baptist of Lake City, and active in many church committees. She was also an avid reader and bridge player.
She is survived my two daughters, Mary Frances "Tuckie" Brown of Lake City and Georgia (Josh) Jordan of Tallahassee, and six grandchildren, William "Hunt" (Laura) Abney of Jacksonville, Florida, George Abney of Washington D.C., Jason (Jayme) Roper of Tallahassee, Caroline (Glenn) Tindale of Tallahassee, Clarence Brown III of Tallahassee, and Sheesley Jordan of Tallahassee. She is also survived by niece Bonnie Hairrell (Bill) of Birmingham, Alabama, niece Benita McNider of Mobile, Alabama, and nephew Ben Hatfield III, of Point Clear, Alabama, as well as ten grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Lake City with Reverends Troy Varnum, Robert Davis and Carson Brittain, presiding. The family will receive friends from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. on Monday, April 22, 2002, at Guerry Funeral Home, 4301 First Street, Lake City.

Daniel Douglas Branscome
Kathleen, GA - Daniel Branscome, 59, died Friday, April 19, 2002 at the Houston Medical Center, Warner Robins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 Central Baptist Church. Private interment services will be held at the Memorial Cemetery in Lake City, Florida. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 Tuesday evening at McCullough Funeral Home. Mr. Branscome was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was an aviation mechanic at Robins Air Force Base. He attended aviation repair school, was an Oklahoma model airplane enthusiast and enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He attended Central Baptist Church. His parents, Lonnie James and Cora Lee Branscome, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Branscome Rahman and Omar Rahman of Muncie, IN; daughter and son-in-law, Deanna Branscome and Timothy Kicklighter of High Springs, FL; grandchildren, David Harrison, Emma Harrison and Abigail Kicklighter, all of High Springs, FL; one sister, Peggy Lancaster, Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, Teddy Branscome of Portmouth, VA and Harry Branscome of North Carolina. Rose Anna Gabler, died April 21, 2002, after an extended illness at
Blessed Hope Assisted Living Facility, Lake City.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Friedrich and Rose Gehring. She had resided in Lake City since 1999, previously living in Crystal River, FL for 28 years and before that Town of Tonawanda, and Kenmore, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband Willi E. Gabler, two sisters, Maria Gelz and Clara Hans, and one brother, Fredrick Gehring.
Survivors include one daughter, Rose-Marie (Hugh) Wilson of Lake City, FL, one son, William (Penny) Gabler of Clarence Center, NY, one brother, Carl (Marion) Gehring, West Seneca, NY and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Gehring, Buffalo, NY. Four grandchildren, William Gabler, Clarence Center, NY, Bruce (Genie) Dana, Tallahassee, FL; Eric Dana, Bluffton, SC; Dr. Gary (Kimberly) Dana, Melbourne, FL and eight Great Grandchildren, Keara Dana, Kyle Dana, Audrey Dana, Kayley Dana, Nicholas Dana, Shelby Dana and Andrea Dana.
She was a homemaker. She was one of Jehovah Witness's.

Bruce J. "B.J." Leadingham
Mr. Bruce J. "B.J." Leadingham II, 16, of Live Oak, died late Saturday evening of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
A native of Huntington, West Virginia, Mr. Leadingham had been a resident of Live Oak for a year having moved there fromKentucky. Mr. Leadingham was a student of Suwannee High School where he was a member of the J.R.O.T.C. and a member of their Drill Squad. Mr. Leading-ham was of the Baptist faith and en-joyed playing the guitar. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Hester Blankenship.
Bruce is survived by his mother, Melissa Leadingham, Live Oak, Florida; his father, Bruce J. Lea- dingham, Sr., Grayson, Kentucky; a sister, Ashley Leadingham, Huntington, West Virginia; a half sister, Monica Harrington, Polkton, West Virginia; a halfbrother, Randall Bartram, Branchland, West Virginia; his maternal grandmother, Vickie Baucom (Steve), Live Oak, Florida and his paternal grandparents. Tony and Johnnie Leadingham of Grayson, Kentucky. many other family members and friends also survive.

Joanna R. Picklo
Mrs. Joanna R. Picklo, 76, of Lake City, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mrs Picklo had been a resident of Lake City for the past fourteen years having moved here from Hollywood, Florida. Mrs. Picklo was a retired retail sales clerk and had been a homemaker. Mrs. Picklo was a member of the Epiphany Catholic Church. her only hobby was taking care of her family.
Mrs. Picklo is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mr. Nicholas "Nick" Picklo Sr., Lake City; two sons, Nicholas Picklo, Jr., Fort Worth, Texas; Art Picklo, Lake City, Florida; and a daughter, Car- mella Picklo Duryea, Piscataway, New Jersey.
Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services for Mrs. Picklo will be conducted at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 23, 2002 in the

Lake Butler April 22, 2002: Mrs.
Celia Cummings Shaw, 67, of Lake Butler died Monday morning at the Shands University of Fla Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Lake City and has lived most of her life in Lake Butler. She and her husbandowned and operated the Town House Restaurant for many years.
She was also employed with the North Florida Mental Health for 16 years before she retired.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John E. Shaw of Lake Butler; 3 daughters: Cindy North and Karen Goff both of Lake Butler and Susie Shaw of Raiford; 1 brother: Redmond Cummings of Mayo.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler with Terry Elixson officiating. Burial will follow in Dekle Cemetery under the direction of Archer Home of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday night.

Myrtis Butler Colson, 74, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Thursday April 25, 2002 at her home after a brief illness.
Mrs. Colson was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and is the daughter of the late James R. and Mable Hawthorne Butler. Mrs. Colson was employed for twenty years by the State of Florida, Children's Services beginning as the first In-take Counselor for the Division of Youth Services, Columbia County, in 1971. She later served as a Children's Services Supervisor for Gilchrist, Levy, Dixie and Lafayette Counties until her retirement. She was employed by the Columbia County Juvenile Court for ten years first as Clerk of the Juvenile Court and later as Juvenile Counselor and was well respected in the legal community in Children Services, District Three. Mrs. Colson was a former board member of the Columbia County Housing Authority, a Scout Leader for Cub Scouts and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake City, Florida.
Survivors include her husband of Fifty-Six years Linwood E. Colson, Lake City, Fl Three sons, Randy (Elena) Colson, Smyrna, Tennessee, Bruce (Laura) Colson, Covington, Ga. and Alex (Iris) Colson, Lake City, Florida. Five grandchildren: Noah (Danetta) Colson, Greg (Beth) Colson, Dimitar Petkov, Kristen Colson and Karey Colson. Other Relatives, Elaine Colson, Etowah, Tennessee and Kathy Colson, Covington, Georgia. Katherine Ruth Ide
Mrs. Katherine Ruth Ide, 67, of Lake City, Florida, died Friday, April 26, 2002, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Ide had lived in Lake City for one year having moved here from Hillman, Michigan. Mrs. Ide was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Her hobbies included ceramics, crafts and antiques.
Her husband, Robert G. Ide, Sr. and a daughter, Bonnie K. Rodriguez, preceded Mrs. Ide in death.
Mrs. Ide is survived by two sons, Robert G. Ide, Jr. Yulee, Florida; Bill A. Ide, Bay City, Michigan; three daughters, Vera Hill, Lake City, Florida; Diane B. Kinny, Yulee, Florida, Carla DeRosia, Alpena, Michigan; two sisters; Vera Lucas and Ida Biles both of Michigan. Six-teen grandchildren also survive.

Myrtis Butler Colson
Myrtis Butler Colson, 74, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Thursday April 25, 2002 at her home after a brief illness.
Mrs. Colson was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and is the daughter of the late James R. and Mable Hawthorne Butler.
Mrs. Colson was employed for twenty years by the State of Florida, Children's Services beginning as the first Intake Counselor for the Division of Youth Services, Columbia County, in 1971.
She later served as a Children's Services Supervisor for Gilchrist, Levy, Dixie and Lafayette Counties until her retirement.

George Joe Little
George Joe Little, 80, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Little was a native of and lifelong resident of Lake City, son of the late Julian I. and Ollie Ellen Hill Little. Mr. Little was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed with the Florida Department of Transportation, in the maintenance yard, for many years, until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Little was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Lake City.
Survivors include; His Wife, Deloris Little, of Lake City; Three Sons, Michael Little, Rodney Little, and Perry Little, all of Lake City; One Daughter, Phyllis Chandler, of Sedalia, Colorado; Four brothers, Woodrow Little, Finley Little, Carl Little and Ralph Little, all of Lake City; Three Sisters, Leona Bonds, Ellen Ward, and Rosalee Wilder, all of Lake City. Ten Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren also survive. Mr. Little was preceded in death by one Son, George Joe Little, II.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 29, 2002, at 11:00 A.M., in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler, with Rev. Percy Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends at funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M.

Juanita Carver
Juanita Carver, 89, of Live Oak, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2002 in the Surrey Place Nursing Home after a long illness.
Mrs. Carver was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Live Oak.
Survivors include Three daughters: Vicki Summers, Live Oak, Elizabeth Roberts and Cora Cabino both of Lake City; Three sons: Cliff Carver, McAlpin, Hubert Carver, Lake City, and Raymond Carver, Lakeland: Two sisters; Elasie Rae Smith and Geneive Connley both of Lakeland; One half-sister: Rozelle Lindsey, Lakeland; One half-brother: Hariors Stinson, Lakeland; Eighteen Grandchildren, Thirty-One Great Grandchildren and several Great-Great Grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Dennis Carver and her son, Kenneth Carver.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak, with Rev. Louis Berry and Rev. William H. Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in McAlpin Advent Christian Church Cemetery. DANIELS FUNERAL HOME of Live Oak in charge of all arrangements.

John O. Durham
John O. Durham, Jr, 73, of Wellborn, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2002 in the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City, after a long illness.
The Fort Benning, Georgia native moved to Wellborn from California in 1977, retired as Gunnery Sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps. after serving twenty years during World War II, The Korean conflict and Vietnam war. Mr. Durham was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Wellborn.
Survivors include One daughter: Barbi Durham Bedenbaugh, Lake City; Four sons: Lt. Com. John David Burnham, Kodiak, Alaska, Richard and Ron Durham both of Lake City, and Ken Durham, Well- born; Two sisters: Jackie Ray, Phenix City, Al., Nedra Lambert, Albertville, AL; Two brothers: Lamar Luttrell, Arab., AL, Larry Luttrell, New Hope, AL.; Twenty-One grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002 in Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Knight officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Carlton W. Hines
Carlton W. Hines, 72, passed away at home on Friday, April 26, 2002.
Born in Lake City, one of 10 chil-dren, he had lived in Jacksonville for 52 years. He graduated from Columbia High School, Lake City, and retired in 1988 after 34 yearsof service with E.I. DuPont. Carlton was Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as Cub and Scout Master making a great positive impact on many youths. Carlton never met a stranger, and continued many longtime friendships.
He is survived by his wife Barbara M. Hines; his son, Ernest W. Hines, 5 brothers, Frank, Leon, Ralph, Joe and Wayne; 2 sisters, Mary and Lois L.; granddaughter, Lisa and grandson, Joseph; and great grandson Jordan. Two sisters, Evelyn and Helen, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. with Rev. Steven Grindstaff officiating.
Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be Monday, from 6- 8 pm at the funeral home.
