Helen Chiovarou, assisted husband in paint business
A funeral Mass was offered on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at St. Patrick Church in Chatham for Helen Chiovarou, 75, of Chatham, who died on Saturday, Feb. 8, 1998, at home.
Mrs. Chiovarou was born in West Orange and had lived in Chatham since 1956.
She assisted her husband in his industrial paint business, H.A. Chiovarou Inc., as the bookkeeper and secretary. Previously, she had worked in international shipping at the RCA Corp. in Jersey City.
Mrs. Chiovarou played racquet sports and was a member of the paddle and tenn is teams at the Minisink Club in Chatham.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur W.; a daughter, Helen Ann Kelly of Spofford, N.H., a sister, Ann Krawse of Chatham; two brothers, Steve Krawse of the Whippany section of Hanover Township and George Krawse of Irvington; and two grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Arthur.

Charlotte Nelson, active with club, school, library
A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Wm. A. Bradley and Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Chatham, for Charlotte Hedin Nelson of Chatham, who died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Overlook Hospital in Summit following a short illness. She was 61.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn., she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1965 and then came to Chatham in 1967.
She was a 1959 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education, and was an elementary school teacher in Minneapolis before moving to Cleveland.
Mrs. Nelson was a past president of the Junior Women’s Club of Chatham; a former co-president with her husband, John A. Nelson, of the Chatham High School Parent-Teacher Organization in 1979, and had worked with the Summit YWCA and the Library of the Chathams.
She had assisted her husband in his packaging business, Custom Way Packaging, and following his death in 1992 she worked for the Nilson Insurance Agency in Morristown.
She is survived by three sons, John F. “Jay” of Maplewood, Todd E. of Monroe, Conn., and Scott D. of Chatham; a brother, Lynn J. Hedin of South Dakota; a sister, Marcia Tammel of California, and five grandchildren. Interment
was private.

Fred Christy, 68, formerly of Bernardsville
Fred John Christy, 68, died on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at the Stroud Municipal Hospital in Stroud, Okla.
Born in Summit, and had lived in Bernardsville and Madison, moving to Stroud in 1987.
He was a deliveryman for Sam Gordon's Appliances in Madison for 30 years, retiring several years ago.
Mr. Christy was a member of St. Teresa's Roman Catholic Church in Summit.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Stare of Madison; a son, Andrew Christy of Hawaii; three sisters, Helen Mooney of Stroud, Evelyn Gunther of Toms River and Frances Myers of Edison; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
Arrangements were by the Layton Funeral Home, Main Street, Bedminster Township.
Michael A. Cimaglia, supervisor, worked in Chatham for 23 years
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast, Fla., for Michael A. Cimaglia, 81, of Palm Coast, who died on Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at home.
Mr. Cimaglia was born in Madison and had lived in Florham Park before moving to Palm Coast in 1982.
He was a supervisor in the blueprint paper conversion company of Keuffel & Esser Co. in Chatham for 23 years. He then worked at B.W. Fry Co. in Cranford until his retirement.
Mr. Cimaglia was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Italian American Club in Palm Coast.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary; a son, Michael of Medford; a daughter, Marie Ter Morhulzen of Deltona, Fla.; three brothers, Louis of Annapolis, Md., Sam of Madison and John of Dunwoody, Ga.; four sisters, Margaret Mongiello of Newtown Square, Pa., Betty Wilder of Heathrow, Fla.; Leatrice Moffett of Medford and Anna Fugina of Sacramento, Calif; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Rocco Derasmo, union leader, daughter lives in Madison
A funeral Mass was offered on Saturday, Feb. 7, at St. Vincent Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Madison for Rocco Derasmo, 84, of New York City, who died on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at his daughter's home in Madison after a long illness.
Mr. Derasmo was born in Madison and was a lifelong resident.
He was a transportation captain for Theatrical Local 817 of the Teamster's Union in New York City for 25 years before his retirement in 1985.
During World War II, Mr. Derasmo served in the Army in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving are a daughter, E. France Facciani of Madison; a sister, Anna Forg ione of Queens, N.Y.; two brothers, William of Newton and Daniel of Toms River; and two grandsons.
He was the widower of Anna.

Anna Ferrante, nurse, formerly lived in borough
Memorial services will be held Friday and Saturday for Anna DelMastro Ferrante, 72, of Toms River, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997.
Mrs. Ferrante was born in Newark and had lived in Florham Park for 32 years before moving to Toms River in 1987.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, in the Rectory Chapel of Holy Family Church in Florham Park and at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Rectory Chapel of Maximillian Kolbe Church in Toms River.
Mrs. Ferrante was born in Newark and had lived in Florham Park for 32 years before moving to Toms River in 1987.
She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at the Toms River Community Medical Center from 1988 to 1990. Previously, she had worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital for 11 years before her retirement in 1986.
She was an active volunteer with the blind.
Mrs. Ferrante was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society in Toms River.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur J. of Annandale and Andre of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Anne Ghosh of Dallas, Texas, and Antonia Gollob of the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township; a sister, Rose Marie Pietrangelo of Toms River; an aunt, Antoinette Bonavita of Toms River; and eight grandchildren.

Kathleen Hartelius, former realtor active in Chatham
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at St. Patrick Church in Chatham for Kathleen E. Hartelius, 81, of Jamesville, N.Y., who died on Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Syracuse, N.Y.
Mrs. Hartelius was born in Jersey City and had lived in Chatham for 49 years before moving to Jamesville.
She was a real estate salesperson for the Stanley Bystrak Realty in Madison from 1962 to 1975. Before her marriage in 1942, Mrs. Hartelius worked for the Home Insurance Co. in the Short Hills section of Millburn Township.
Mrs. Hartelius attended the Drake Business School in Jersey City.
She was an active member of St. Patrick Church and served on the Altar Rosary Society and the Parents' Guild.
In her later years, she was a member of the Chatham Leisure Club and active with the Chatham Historical Society.
Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth J. Abowitz of Oklahoma City, Okla., Christine M. Walker of Manchester, N.H., and Kathleen R. of Syracuse; a sister, Elizabeth A. Kertis of Westfield; and four grandchildren.
She was the widow of M. John.

George Jorgensen, engineer, emigrated from Copenhagen
George Jorgensen, 84, of Chatham, died on Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Morristown Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Jorgensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and emigrated to this country in 1940. He settled in Bloomfield, then lived in West Orange and moved to Chatham in 1975.
He was a registered professional engineer, who worked for the Manning and Lewis Engineering Co. in Union from 1954 until his retirement in 1980.
Surviving is a sister, Edith Berthelsen of Denmark.
He was the widower of Rita, who died in 1977.
Arrangements were by the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main St., Madison.
R. Gordon Larson, engineer, served on area planning board
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Northfield Baptist Church in Livingston for R. Gordon Larson, 83, of Bedminster, who died on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Larson was born in Redwood Falls, Minn., and had lived in Livingston and Florham Park before moving recently to Bedminster.
He retired in 1976 as a supervisor with the Western Electric Corp. in Kearny and New York City after 40 years of service.
Mr. Larson was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University in University Park, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering.
He had served on the Florham Park Planning Board.
Mr. Larson was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Tau Beta Pi fraternities, Sta nley S. Holmes chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Summit Old Guard and the Madison-Chatham Camera Club.
He was a deacon and on the Board of Trustees of the Northfield Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; two daughters, Laurel Palmer of Wallkill, N.Y., and Marlene Dalrymple of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Elizabeth Skoog, secretary, worked at Red Cross chapter
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Parsippany for Elizabeth Anna Skoog, 82, of Denville Township, who died on Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at the Franciscan Oaks Health Center in Denville after a short illness.
Mrs. Skoog was born in Elbridge, N.Y., and had lived in Florham Park before moving to Denville in 1995.
She was the secretary to the director of the Southeast Morris Chapter of the American Red Cross for 12 years before her retirement in 1992. Previously, for 12 years until her retirement in 1980, she was a medical secretary to Dr. Ames Filippone, who was the surgical director at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Skoog was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Florham Park and its Altar Guild. She also was president of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church there and the secretary of the church council. Mrs. Skoog also was a member of the church's art committee.
Surviving are three nephews and four nieces.
She was the widow of Edward K.

Pietro Testa, born in Italy, owned Brooklyn fish market
A funeral Mass was offered on Monday, Feb. 9, at St. Vincent Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Madison for Pietro Testa, 88, of Madison, who died on Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Testa was born in Naples, Italy, and had lived in Madison and Brooklyn, N.Y., before returning to Madison 22 years ago.
He owned the Atlantic Fish Market in Brooklyn for 15 years before his retirement in 1971.
Surviving are his wife, Louise; four sons, Mario of Florham Park, Anthony of Denville, Joseph of Florida and Carl of Long Island, N.Y.; two daughters, Tina Ciccarelli of Florham Park and Carmela Egnezzo of South Carolina; 16 grandchildr en; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tormey was born in Fair Lawn and had lived in Chatham since 1958,
She was a saleswoman at Bamberger's in Morristown before her retirement in 1970.
Surviving are her husband, John; three sisters, Agnes Webber of Toms River and Eleanor Van Poppel and Regina Van Poppel, both of Fair Lawn; three nephews; and one niece.

Edwin J. Vayda, pilot, veteran, 79
Edwin J. Vayda of Sarasota, Fla., father of a Long Valley resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at the Springs at Lake Pointe Woods Nursing Home in Sarasota. He was 79.
Born Jan. 19, 1919, in Bayonne, he moved to Sarasota five years ago from Denville.
Mr. Vayda was an aircraft maintenance technician and commercial pilot. He later opened his own business, Flightpath Services Inc., an aircraft accessory ove rhaul shop in Hackensack.
A member of the Westchester Aircraft Maintenance Association in Westchester, N.Y., he also was a member of the Professional Aircraft Maintenance Association in Teterboro.
He served as an aviation chief machinist mate in the Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Patricia Mills of Long Valley, and Joan of Union City; a son, John of Madison; a sister, Edna Murdock of Denville; two brothers, Robert of Bayonne and Thomas of Dover, and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment
is planned for Arlington National Cemetery.
Richard Wellbrock, 83, father of Watchung man
Richard O. Wellbrock, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998 at Fellowship Village in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Wellbrock lived in Summit for many years.
He retired as chairman of the NJM Corp., the successor to New Jersey Machine Corp. Mr. Wellbrock was the director of the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co., the American Management Association, and the New Jersey Business and Industry Association. He also was president of the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute and was elected to its Packaging Hall of Fame.
Mr. Wellbrock was a member of various clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Canoe Brook Country Club, Summit ; involved in the Fathers Guild at the Oak Knoll School in Summit, where he received the Oak Knoll Cluster Award for service to the Oak Knoll Golden Jubilee Financial Appeal, and Delbarton School in Morristown, a member of the Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation, founded in 1975; a member of the Summit Rotary Club and the Old Guard of Summit; and a past director of Sage.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Helen O'Grady Wellbrock.
Surviving are four sons, Richard D. of Watchung, William of Chattanooga, Tenn., Robert of Chatham and David of Summit; three daughters, Elizabeth of Falmouth, Mass., Nancy Kmiecik of Chatham, and Marylou Reeves of Rockaway; his fiancee, Deane Hogan of Summit; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Borough Funeral Home in Summit, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Theresa's Church, also in Summit.

James Campbell, tax director for Wayne company nine years
A funeral Mass was offered on Wednesday, March 25, at St. Vincent Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Madison for James W. Campbell, 44, of Madison, who died on Sunday, March 22, 1998, at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick.
Mr. Campbell was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and had lived in Ramsey and Parsippany before moving to Madison in 1979.
He was a tax director for Castrol North America, Inc., in Wayne for nine years.
Mr. Campbell was a 1976 graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., where he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He also was a 1981 graduate of Pace University in New York City, where he earned a master's degree in taxation.
At Buckell University, he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; a son, Scott, at home; a daughter, Marissa, also at home; his parents, Louise and Charles of Ramsey; and a sister, Judy Frost of Pompton Lakes.

Emmanuel John Gakos, owner of Morristown delicatessen
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, March 26, at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Union for Emmanuel John Gakos, 66, of Morris Plains, who died on Sunday, March 22, 1998, of an apparent heart attack while using a snowblower at his home.
Mr. Gakos was born in Morristown and had lived in Morris Plains since 1958.
He was the owner of John's Delicatessen in Morristown, which he took over from his father in the early 1950s. He bought the business from his mother in the 1970s.
Previously, he had served in the Navy.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Katherine; four daughters, Maria of Morris Plains, Elaine Jenkins of the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, Lisa Polesky of Hillsborough and Karen Iannarone of Madison; two brothers, Sophocles of Madison and Peter of Hackettstown; and five grandchildren.

Eugene V. Hansen, worked 38 years at Picatinny Arsenal
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, March 26, at the Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home in Madison for Eugene V. Hansen, 82, of Florham Park, who died on Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hansen was born in Newark and had lived in Maplewood before moving to Florham Park in 1959.
He was employed in the transportation department of the Picatinny Arsenal in Parsippany for 38 years before his retirement in 1979.
During World War II, Mr. Hansen served in the Army.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Interment
will be in the Hollywood Cemetery in Union.
