Wesley Moon, Sportswriter, Led NAACP
Wesley T. Moon, longtime sportswriter and columnist for the Asbury Park Press, died Nov. 1 [1996] at Point Pleasant Hospital. He was 74 and lived in Brielle.
While covering many sports during a newspaper career that began in 1949 with the Press, Wes, as he was known to friends and associates, turned to boxing as his specialty before retiring in 1988.
A graduate of Manasquan High School, he later became a standout football and track athlete at Lincoln and Howard Universities. He served as president of the Asbury Park-Neptune chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People from 1961 to 1963.
Surviving are his wife, Janice; a son, Wesley S. Moon; a daughter, Leslie Pelzer; two sisters, Mary Robinson and Bertha Combs, and four grandchildren.

George Vasilios Vowteras, owner of the George Vowteras Real Estate Agency in Allenhurst and an agent for Travellers Insurance Co. until his retirement, died Oct. 30 [1996] at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was 91 and lived in Bradley Beach. Surviving are two sons, William and John; three daughters, Louise Kupchik, Anne Emmons and Mary Kay Rosen; a brother, Nicholas Vowteras; a sister, Sophie Challes; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lulu Mae Bareford, a factory worker in Ocean Township until her retirement, died Oct. 29 [1996] at Jersey Shore Medical Center. She was 82 and lived in Asbury Park.
WALLACE E. BUTENHOFF
Wallace E. Butenhoff, co-owner of Lou Jr's, Neptune, and an employee of Sheet Metal Workers Local 128, Long Island, N.Y., before retiring, died Oct. 31 [1996] at his home in Neptune. He was 69. Surviving are his wife, Ina Waters Butenhoff; two sons, Robert Butenhoff and Louis Meccia; a daughter, Ina Meccia, and a grandson.

Albert R. Richter, a partner in Richters Garage, Elberon, before retiring, died Oct. 30 [1996] at his home in Oakhurst. He was 82. He was a founder of the Elberon First Aid Squad. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Longstreet Richter; a son, Michael; a brother, George; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Sharon Ware, 38, of Ocean Township, died Oct. 31 [1996] at home. Surviving are her parents, Robert and Carolyn Sharp Ware; a sister, Kathleen Fields; her paternal grandmother, Aletha Ware, and her maternal grandmother, Henrietta Sharp.

Richard T. Cusack, a field engineer at Magnavox Research Labs, Torrance, Calif., before retiring, died Nov. 1 [1996] at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was 67 and lived in Neptune. He was a past president of the Belmar Fishing Club. Surviving are his wife, Lillian Blum Cusack; six sons, Richard, John, Michael, Thomas, Kenneth and Daniel; a daughter, Patricia Quinn; a brother, Gene; two sisters, Marguerite Heutele and Eileen Budnik, and 17 grandchildren.

John M. Eckert Sr., a licensed practical nurse at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Marlboro Township, died Oct. 31 [1996] at his home in Asbury Park. He was 54. He previously had been a purchasing supervisor with JCP&L. Surviving are a son, John, Jr.; three brothers, Bill Eckert, Ronald Eckert and Lloyd Cornelius; two sisters, Geneva Behrens and Patricia McGinnis, and a granddaughter.

Rosie L. Jackson, a domestic worker with various employers, died Oct. 30 [1996] at her home in Neptune. She was 59. Surviving are her husband, Donald, and two brothers, Eddie and Billy Barnes.

Woodrow W. Van Dyke, a worker in the maintenance department at Monmouth Park, Oceanport, before retiring, died Nov. 1 [1996] at Jersey Shore Medical Canter. He was 85 and lived in West Long Branch. He is survived by his wife, Emma Andrus Van Dyke; a son, Stanley; a brother, Flavil, and a sister, Virginia Catterton.

Richard B. Stirling, a transportation clerk for Eastern Seaboard Standard Oil Corp., New York, before retiring, died Nov. 2 [1996] at his home in Ocean Grove. He was 82. Previously he had worked at the former Bamberger's Department Store, Eatontown. He is survived by a brother, Rev. Douglas Stirling, and several nieces and nephews.
