Edward Virgil Auvil Sr.

CREOLE - Edward Virgil Auvil Sr., 67, of the Pecan Community, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, in Pecan.
Mr. Auvil was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Fruitdale, Ala. He retired from the Army after over 20 years of service and attended Forts Lake Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Virgil Auvil Jr. and Theodore Lorenzo Auvil.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Auvil of Pecan; six stepsons, Carl Morgan of Mobile, Steve Morgan of Theodore, Ala., Glynn Morgan of Pensacola, Fla., Ricky Morgan of Houston, Texas, Ronnie Thomas of Citronelle, Ala., and Jimmy Auvil of Birmingham, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Rice of Theodore and Ann Draughn of Pascagoula; two daughters, Tillie Thompson and Debbie Frazier, both of Citronelle; a sister, Florence Foster of Texas; three brothers, George Auvil of Houston, Howard Auvil of Clinton, Ark., and Carl Auvil of Derry, Texas; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-until tonight at Forts Lake Assembly of God Church. A service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the church, with a 3 p.m. graveside service in Fruitdale Cemetery in Fruitdale. Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point is in charge of arrangements.
Frank Ransom Blackmarr Sr.

GULFPORT - Frank Ransom Blackmarr Sr., 88, of Gulfport died Tuesday, February 10, 1998.
He was born May 13, 1909, in Brewton, AL, to Hamlin Leonidas and Jessie Tippin Blackmarr. The family moved shortly thereafter to Long Beach, MS. Following his schooling in Long Beach and Gulfport, he studied at Auburn University in Alabama. He married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Killegrew, who passed away in 1992, one month before their 62nd anniversary.
Trained "on the job" by his father and two uncles who ran a grocery store in Long Beach at the turn of the century. Frank and Rosemary opened in Gulfport in the late 1930's. Hurricane Camille in 1969 closed for good the neighborhood store. During WWII, he also worked as an electrician for Ingalls Shipbuilding, Inc. in Pascagoula. A member of the I.B.E.W., he continued working as an electrician for many years.
A great-nephew of Capt. Joseph T. and Melodia Blackmarr Jones, co-founder of Gulfport, he had looked forward to the 100th anniversary celebration of the city later this year.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William "Bill" Blackmarr and Phillip Blackmarr; two sisters, Julia Blackmarr Jones and Lillian Blackmarr; a grandson, Robert Stacy Philliip Finley; and a great-grandson, Matthew Michael Gibson.
Survivors include a son, Frank R. Blackmarr Jr. of Panama City, FL; four daughters, Mrs. James L. (Grace Eleanor) Lebo of Gulfport, Mrs. Chester W. (Rosemary) Finley of Long Beach, Mrs. James C. (Melodia) Stevens of San Antonio, and Mrs. Daniel J. (Margaret) Moran of Gulfport.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Burl E. Gibson III, Ransom A. Gibson, Rosemary G. Gangemi, Grace E. Gibson, Sarah G. Elchos and Frank I. Gibson, Margaret F. Sartor and Chester Larry Finley, M.D., James C. Stevens Jr., Susan S. Sweet, Thomas Stevens, Frank R. Blackmarr III, Daniel J. Moran Jr. and Gregory Moran; and by 24 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother, Keener Blackmarr of Mobile, AL.
Interment
in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport with a private family memorial service.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Alzheimer's Association-Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter.

STARKVILLE - Jesse E. Broadus, 82, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in Starkville.
Mr. Broadus was a native of McHenry. He retired as owner of Broadus Furniture Store in Gulfport, served in the Army during World War II, was a member of the American Legion and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.S. Broadus; his mother, Arnetta Bond Broadus and two sisters, Florence Savoy and Thelma Palmaniso.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon B. Pate of Northport, Ala., and Victoria B. Ellington of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Oaklawn Cemetery in McHenry. Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue, Gulfport, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cowart was a native of Lucedale and lived most of his life on the Coast. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired house mover.

Mr. Gillam was a native of Gadsden, Ala. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post 3253 in Bay St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B. Gillam Sr. and Bess Ruth Steele Gillam; and a son, Keith David Gillam.

HAZELHURST - Willie Ann Price Landrum, 71, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in Jackson.
Mrs. Landrum was born in Lincoln County. She was a homemaker and was a member of Hazlehurst United Methodist Church. She was a member of UMW AN, Eastern Star and the Susannah Wesley Organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin W. Price and Annie Coker Price.

LONG BEACH - Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Lionel W. O'Quinn, 86, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in Collins.
Master Sgt. O'Quinn was a native of Iago, Texas and had been a resident of Long Beach for 36 years. He was member of Sharon Baptist Church in Long Beach, where he formerly taught Sunday school. He also taught Sunday school at Kittiwake Baptist Assembly. He served 22 years in the military and retired from the Air Force, served during the Korean conflict and World War II, and was also a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louella Mae O'Quinn; a sister, Vernice Creel and his parents, Daniel W. and Livie Long O'Quinn.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite O'Quinn of Long Beach; a son, Dwight O'Quinn of Marion, Ala., and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the Long Beach Chapel of Riemann Funeral Home. A service will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with burial in Long Beach City Cemetery.

Mrs. Schwartz was a native of Orange, Texas, was formerly a resident of New Orleans and had been a resident of Clermont Harbor for the past 36 years. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Clermont Harbor, St. Ann Altar Society and Clermont Harbor Ladies Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Phena Genna Gengo; a brother, Tony Gengo, and a sister, Katherine Marcello.
Survivors include her husband, Charles "Manie" Schwartz Jr. of Clermont Harbor; a son, Dr. E. Ward Sudderth of Marrero, La.; a daughter, Antoinette G. Breaud of Metairie, La.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

PASS CHRISTIAN - Christine Demetz Taylor, 88, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in Pass Christian.
Mrs. Taylor was a native of Pass Christian and had been a resident for most of her life. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a teacher's aid in the Pass Christian School System for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Audley L. Taylor; and her parents, Adolph I. and Mary McDonald Demetz.
Survivors include a son, Audley L. Taylor Jr. of Mauldin, S.C.; two sisters, Isabell Terrell of Pass Christian and Thelma Miller of Biloxi and a granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Wilson Jr.; a son, William F. Wilson III; her parents, Andrew J. "Jack" and Elizabeth Lott and a sister, Jacqueline Lott Sockrider.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Freddie Nelson; her parents, William R. and Estelle Manuel; a sister, Jenny Jones; a brother, William "Bud" Manuel and a son, David Nelson.
