BILOXI - Maxie Dunbar Bonnett, 89, died Monday, April 19, 1999, in Biloxi.
Mrs. Bonnett was a native of Baldwin County, Ala., and a longtime resident of the Coast. She was a member of Barton Baptist Church in George County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett M. Bonnett; a daughter, Joyce Evelyn Welch; and her parents, John and Rebecca Dunbar.
Survivors include six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Barton Baptist Church on Mississippi 63 in George County where friends may call from noon until service time. Burial will be in Barton Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.

LONG BEACH - James Franklin "Pete" Bradford, 74, died Monday, April 19, 1999, in Gulfport.
Mr. Bradford was a native of Lake and a longtime resident of Long Beach. He was a retired longshoreman and a member of Local 1303. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Stella Bradford; two brothers, Arthur Lee Bradford and Marvin Bradford; and a sister, Mary Lois Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette "Jean" Bradford; a son, Jim Bradford, both of Long Beach; two daughters, Shirley Gardner of Baldwin, Mich., and Becky Brown of Long Beach; five brothers, Albert Bradford of Pass Christian, Thomas Bradford of Long Beach, Clarence Bradford of Saucier, Carroll Bradford of Brooklyn, Miss., and Arthur "Buddy" Bradford of Jacksonville, Texas; and four grandchildren.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riemann Funeral Home Chapel in Long Beach where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens in Long Beach.

LONG BEACH - Mrs. Barbara Ann Parker Carter, 50, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, in Long Beach.
Mrs. Carter was a native of Gulfport and a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Long Beach. She was employed at the U.S. Naval Home in Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nelson Parker; two brothers, Charles Ray and Levorn "Pop" Parker; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Parker.
Survivors include her husband, Elmore T. Carter of Long Beach; two sons, Calvin H. Jackson and Carlos N. Jackson, both of Gulfport; two daughters, Regina R. Gulledge of Gulfport and Robin L. Bradley of Long Beach; her mother, Grace E. Parker of Long Beach, Calif.; five brothers, Rev. Willie J. Parker of Tracey, Calif., Charles White of San Diego, Henry E. Parker and Nelson G. Parker Jr., both of Long Beach, Calif., and Jimmy D. Parker of Gulfport; two sisters, Cora C. White and Leveron Smith, both of Gulfport; and 16 grandchildren.

LONG BEACH - Charles W. Dodge, age 76, a resident of Long Beach, died Monday, April 19,1999, in Long Beach.
Mr. Dodge, a native of Gulfport, had been a resident of Long Beach for the past 35 years. He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and a veteran of World War II. After his military service, Mr. Dodge worked for many years as part of the financial staff at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. He was a Christian and an avid fisherman throughout his residence on the Coast.
Mr. Dodge was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie W. Dodge.
Survivors include three sons, David Dodge of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Steven Dodge of Long Beach, and Alan Dodge of Sterling, VA; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue in Gulfport. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with military honors, followed by burial in Evergreen Gardens in Gulfport.
June Carol Gellnicht

PENSACOLA - June Carol Gellnicht, 75, of Pensacola, died after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's on Sunday, April 18, 1999, in her home.
Mrs. Gellnicht was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and grew up in Oklahoma and Texas. She was married to the late Col. Donald Leonard Gellnicht, a Pensacola native. Together they made their home in many cities across the United States and overseas while serving in the U.S. Army.
Prior to her illness Mrs. Gellnicht was a volunteer with the Baptist Hospital Women's Board and Hospice and supported FavorHouse of Northwest Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Vernon and Mary Frances Branum and her husband, Donald Leonard Gellnicht.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Sonny MacArthur of Gulfport, and Patti and Sam Hutto of Gulf Breeze, FL; and her grandchildren, Sonny MacArthur Jr. and his wife, Liz, of Atlanta, GA, Shannon MacArthur and Ashley MacArthur of Gulfport, and Lindsey Hutto and Lauren Hutto of Gulf Breeze, FL.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Gellnicht's devoted staff for their love and support.
Funeral services will be held at 10:20 a.m. Friday, April 23, 1999, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Fr. Thack Dyson officiating.

Dr. Goodwin was born in Lumberton and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where she received a bachelor of science degree in medical technology. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University where she received a master of science degree in biological science and microbiology. She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi where she received a Ph.D. in educational leadership. She was an associate professor of medical technology at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Survivors include her parents, Altha and A.L. "Pud" Smith; and a brother, Darryl Smith.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Lumberton where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. White Funeral Home in Lumberton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hilton was a native and a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He sailed as a Bosun for the Seafarers International Union of NOLA. He was a 1989 graduate of St. Martin High School. Mr. Hilton was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Askin Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda Yarborough Hose and George Hudson and a brother, George Hudson.

BILOXI - Stearns Charles "Bootsie" Pluff Jr., 68, of Biloxi, died Monday, April 19, 1999, in Biloxi.
Mr. Pluff was a native and lifelong resident of Biloxi. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where he served as an usher and bingo chairman. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School where he was the first four year letterman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1244 in Biloxi for over 50 years and he had been on the council's degree team for over 20 years and served on the bingo crew for over 20 years. He has served his council as Grand Knight for two terms and served the Mississippi Jurisdiction as a district deputy for two years. He has worked on the Shrimp Boat Classic over 25 years as a ticket seller at the gate. He had been very faithful in his attendance at the council meetings. In 1996 he was named "Mr. Biloxi Knights of Columbus" for his dedicated devotion to his country, community, church and council. He served his country in the Army national Guard for over 32 years. He was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict for two years. He later became the custodian of the National Guard Armory in Biloxi until his retirement as an E-9 in 1990. He was called back to duty during Operation Desert Storm. He was rewarded numerous Army medals and commendations including Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement and Good Conduct Medal and also the Army National Guard Mississippi Magnolia Medal, Mississippi Commendation Medal and Mississippi Medal of Efficiency. He was a member of BPOE No. 606 where he served as a trustee and on the Veteran's and Bingo Committees. He was formerly employed for a number of years with BF Goodrich and most recently C & C Office Supply Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stearns Charles and Eula Desporte Pluff; a daughter, Kalen Ann Pluff; and a half-sister, Evelyn Raymond.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Patsy" Diaz Pluff of Biloxi; daughters, Susan Kay Pluff of St. Louis, MO, and Patricia Pluff Bartholomew of Biloxi; sons, Stearns Charles "Chuck" Pluff III and his wife, Jay, of Houston, Texas, Steven Joseph Pluff and John Michael Pluff, both of Biloxi; grandchildren, Wade Michael Pluff of Union, S.C., Roman Christopher Bartholomew of Biloxi, and Ashleigh and Micleah Pluff, both of Houston, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m.. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday for a 10 a.m. Mass at St. John's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery with full military honors.

Mrs. Sarten, a native of Decatur, AL, had been a resident of Gulfport 35 years. She was retired as a waitress for the Old Palace Restaurant and was a Baptist.
Mrs. Sarten was preceded in death by her husband, George Sarten; her parents, John D. and Lula Jane Coffman Parks; brothers, Floyd, Luther, and Theo Parks; and sisters, Pearl Phillips, Flora Silvis, and Louise Parks.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Parks and Rubye Parks, of Gulfport and 12 nieces and nephews.

OCEAN SPRINGS - Mr. James Henderson "Jim" Vaughn, 80, of Ocean Springs, died Friday, April 16, 1999, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Vaughn was born in Chicago, and lived in Ocean Springs for the past 20 years. In high school in Hyde Park, Illinois, he lettered in track and football. He held a degree in railroad management and began his career as a freight traffic manager for the L and N Railroad Company in Birmingham, Alabama. Following mergers, he was promoted to freight traffic manager (Chicago of the entire Family Lines System (CSX Corp.) from which he retired in 1978. His hobbies were golfing and fishing. Mr. Vaughn served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, managing movement of supplies out of Newport News, VA, for the European Theater. Mr. Vaughn was the son of the late James L. "Hippo" Vaughn, a Chicago Cubs pitcher famous for throwing a no-hit, no-run game in the 1917 World Series.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Eglin Vaughn of Ocean Springs; three children, Pamela Vaughn Higgenbotham of Houston, TX, James H. Vaughn Jr. of Key West, FL, and John Curtis Vaughn of Carbondale, Ill., all by his late first wife, Kathryn; and four grandchildren.
Friday, April 23, 1999, at the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Ocean Springs, a Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m., a visitation at 6 p.m., and a memorial service at 8 p.m.
