Funeral services for George E. Olson, 71, of Fridley, took place Nov. 9 at Epiphany Catholic Church. Rev. Bernard A. Reiser officiated.
Olson died Nov. 5 in Fridley. He was born April 9, 1927 in Parkers Prairie. Olson was a painter. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, International Brotherhood of Painters, the Allied Trades Union, and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by wife, Catherine “Kay” (Ruhland); children, LuAnn Olson, Steve and wife Janet Olson, Greg and wife Annette Olson, Bernie Olson, Dan and wife Jodi Olson, Barb and husband Derk Westveer, Pat and husband Chris Malotka, Tim and wife Kim Olson, Carolyn and husband Gary Palmer, Paul Olson; brothers and sisters, Art and wife Rose Olson, Carmen and wife Char Olson, Harris Olson, Arden and wife Lovie Olson, Joyce Olson, Verna and husband Bob Rude; grandchildren, Nicolas, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Jessica, Dustin, Luke, Collette, Nicole, Joey, Gretchen, Megan, Jordan, Scott, McRae and Morgan.
He is preceded in death by his parents Emma (Johnson) and Edwin Olson; and son, John.

Judy A. Bess
Funeral services for Judy A. Bess (Held), 52, of Fridley, took place Nov. 10 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel. Rev. Leonard Forsythe officiated.
Bess died Nov. 4 in Fridley. She was born Jan. 23, 1946 in Minneapolis.
She is survived by husband, Don; children, John and wife Julie, Michael and wife Kelly, Robert and Jason; granddaughter, Elizabeth; 9 brothers and sisters; mother and father-in-law, Betty and Happy Bess; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Ruby Held; sister, Sandra; and brother, Michael.

Lauris Lund
Funeral services for Lauris Lund, 93, of Cambridge, took place Nov. 11 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in East Bethel. Rev. Hilton Hammer and Rev. Paul Reynolds officiated.
Lund died Nov. 8 at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge. He was born Sept. 1, 1905 in Bamble, Norway to Nels and Helga Lund. He married Wilma Schultz and was employed as a mechanic in farm machinery and autos.
He is survived by wife, Wilma of Cambridge; daughters, Caroline, LaVonne, Joan and husband Russell, Norma and husband Delmar, Sheryl and husband Ricky; sons, Loren and wife Mary Ann, Gene and wife Ginger, Mike and wife DeDe; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Kvale of Lake Mills, Iowa; brothers, Elmer Lund of Texas, Milton and wife Leona Lund of Spring Valley; sister-in-law, Vina Lund of Ostrander; many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Helga Lund; son, Robert; grandson, Terry Leuenberger; great-grandson, Justin; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and 2 son-in-laws.
Pallbearers were Derrick Carlson, Jeff Gomall, Brian and Jason Hermanson, Jack Leuenberger and Chris Lund.

Kenneth P. Hesli
Memorial services for Kenneth Philip Hesli, 68, of Colorado Springs, Colo., took place at Pike Peak United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs.
Kenneth died Sept. 18 in Colorado Springs. He was born Sept. 9, 1930 in Anoka. Kenneth married Helen Mary Stewart. He was retired from Fittje Bros. Printing Co. and served 27 years in a U.S. Army. Kenneth graduated from Anoka High School in 1948.
He is survived by wife, Helen; sons, David M. and Donald J.; daughter, Mary jo Daress, all of Colorado Springs; brothers, Thomas Hesli and Dale Hesli, both of Anoka; sisters, Doris Beckham of Moundville, Ala., Lois Bloxham of Holyoke; stepmother, Phillipa Hesli of Anoka; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his son, Philip S. Hesli.
Harry D. Ruby
Funeral services for Harry D. Ruby, Jr., 65, of Anoka, took place Nov. 12 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel. Rev. Norman R. Berg officiated.
Ruby died Nov. 7 at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was born March 20, 1933 in Camden, NJ. Ruby married Barbara A. Foss and was retired from Cornelius Company in Anoka.
He is survived by wife, Barbara; sons, Daniel and David; grandchildren, Brandon, Trinity, and Crystel.

Patrick J. O’Brien
Funeral services for Patrick J. “Obee” O’Brien, 53, of Anoka, took place Nov. 7 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel. Rev. Bruce Ruggles officiated.
O’Brien died Nov. 4 at his residence. He was born Jan. 10, 1945 in Superior, Wis. to Leo and Dolores (Jerome) O’Brien. He married Nancy K. Adams and was a switchman for the Soo Line Railroad.
He is survived by wife, Nancy K.; children, Jeanne, John and wife Laura, Jennifer, Tim and wife Lisa, Todd and wife Alida, Terrence, Shawna and husband Gregg; grandchildren, Gianna, Little John, Analise, Jamian, Alissa, Bryce, Jesse, Taylor and Jordan; sister, Dawn Marie; brothers, Mike and Eddie; step-sisters, Donna and Darla; step-brother, Terry; half-sisters, Diane, Delores, Sandy, Sarah, Christina and Michelle; special cousin, Nick; many other relatives and friends.

Marvin C. Macal
Funeral services for Marvin C. Macal, 69, of Cedar, took place Nov. 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Francis. Rev. David Baumgarn officiated.
Macal died Nov. 9 at his residence. He was born Nov. 15, 1928 in Decorah, Iowa to Harry E. Macal and Cecelia (Loebrick). He married Pauline E. (Fuehrer). Macal was a retired Bio-Medical Engineer at Roche Industries and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Francis.
He is survived by wife, Pauline; son, Scott and wife Lisa; daughter, Susan Hostad and husband James; granddaughters, Amanda and Alyssa Hostad; sisters, Adeline Totland and Phyllis Menze; brothers, Duane, John and Kenneth Macal; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were John, Kenneth, and Duane Macal, Marvin Totland, Marley Menze, and James Hostad.

Alois A. Karels
Funeral services for Alois A. Karels, 60, of Anoka, took place Nov. 11 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.
Karels died Nov. 9 in Minneapolis. He was born Dec. 29, in Ortonville to Alois and Lillian Karels. He was a truck driver. Karels was a past member of the Teamsters Local #554 and Anoka County Sheriff’s Rescue Search Team.
He is survived by daughters, Ann and husband Darrell Freeland of Boseman, Mont., Krystel Karels of Andover, Darcy Karels and boyfriend Ross Larson of Fridley, Dalys and husband Brad Dahlquist of Oak Grove; sons, Paul and wife Jan of Spokane Wash., Kerry and Sandra Rolf of Blaine; grandchildren, Tyne Voungs, Amber and Paul Olson, Kulin Dahlquist, Damian Larson; mother, Lillian of Stacy; 3 sisters; 4 brothers.

Eric V. Peterson
Funeral services for Eric V. Peterson, 88, of Wyoming, took place Nov. 11 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Peterson died Nov. 7 in Wyoming. He was born May 27, 1910 in Sweden to Louis and Anna Peterson. He married Marie and was a welder. Peterson was a retired 20 year employee of North Central Gas.
He is survived by wife, Marie; daughters, Rosemary and husband Jerry Soderquist, Judy and husband Leland Silverness; son, Ray Peterson; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Jennie and husband Henry Donovan; brother, Swen Peterson; also many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry; and brother, Gideon.

John Reed Purmort
Funeral services for John Reed Purmort, 97, of Shoreview, took place Nov. 10 at Wyoming United Methodist Church. Rev. Lynn Borgeson officiated.
Purmort died Nov. 7 in Roseville. He was born Aug. 15, 1901 in East Bethel to John Eli Purmort and Louise (Giddings) Purmort. He married Goldie Michelscheck. Purmort was a machinist at FMC and was a member of Wyoming United Methodist and Masonic Lodge, Knights of Pytrias.
He is survived by sons, J. Gordon and wife Norma, Robert and wife Ann, Ken and wife Vivian; daughters, Diane and husband Scott Bronson, Janet and husband Bob Tollund; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; many friends.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Esther and Goldie; daughter, Sandra; son, Gerald; and 7 sisters.

Richard J. Lynch
Richard J. Lynch, 80, of Anoka, died Nov. 17 in Princeton. He was born April 14, 1918 in Minneapolis to Richard and Mary Lynch. He was a maintenance mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughters, Patricia Johnson, Cheryl Smith; and five grandchildren.

Mary O. Lungwitz

Lungwitz died Nov. 12 at Boswell Memorial Hospital, Sun City, Ariz.. She was born April 12, 1931 in LeMars, Iowa. to Al J. and Marie Oliver.

Norma R. Freemire
Funeral services for Norma R. Freemire, 72, of Coon Rapids, formerly of Lake George, took place Nov. 21 at Church of St. Patrick of Cedar Creek in Oak Grove. Rev. Michael J. Kennedy officiated.
Freemire died Nov. 17 at her residence. She was born Sept 8, 1926 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Manuel and Leonor Arroyo Rivera. She and her late husband Robert owned and operated Tillberg’s Resort on Lake George for 40 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruthie Rieder and Rita Leeb; sons-in-law, Gilbert Rieder and William Leeb; grandchildren, Bridgit and Mario Rieder, Myles, Jennifer and Nicole Leeb; sisters, Gilda Martinez, Brunilda and husband Miguel Rosado; and nieces and nephews, Arnold, Mike, Rosanna, Edward, Rebecca, Louis, Lisa, their spouses and children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rob.

Claudette Hendrickson
Funeral services for Claudette R. Hendrickson, 61, of Coon Rapids, took place Nov. 24 at Epiphany Catholic Church. Rev. Bernard A. Reiser officiated.
Hendrickson died Nov. 19 in Minneapolis. She was born July 25, 1937 in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her husband, William Robert Hendrickson; sons, William and Steven; grandsons, William, Robert and Michael; sister, Margaret Antoine; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Priscilla Jones.

Jerry L. Anderson

Anderson died Nov. 18 in Kansas City, Mo. He was born Feb. 27, 1952 in Robbinsdale. Anderson worked in used car sales.

Michael P. Bastian
Funeral services for Michael Paul Bastian, 23, of Coon Rapids, took place Nov. 21 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Norman Berg officiated.
Bastian died Nov. 18. He was born March 30, 1975 in Granite Falls, to Patricia and James Stager. He was an employment investigator.
He is survived by his wife, Beth; daughter, Emma Rose; parents, Patricia and James Stager; sister, Jeanie and husband Robert Griffin of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandmother, Virginia Bastian of Powder Springs, Ga.; grandfather, Fred Simon of Baltimore, Md.; aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Anthony Bastian; and brother, James Michael Bastian.

Leo P. Schirmers
Funeral services for Leo P. Schirmers, 86, of Anoka, formerly of Dayton, took place Nov. 24 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Bill Deziel officiated.
Schirmers died Nov. 21 in Coon Rapids. He was born May 24, 1912 to Matthew Schirmers and Cleo Greeninger. He was a tool and die maker and a retired employee of Honeywell.
He is survived by his wife, Ceil; daughter, Diane and husband Jerry Lehn; sons, Doug and wife Pat Schirmers, Jerry Schirmers; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Cleo Schirmers; and brothers, Vincent and Lawrence.

Howard E. Phillips
Graveside services for Howard "Dutch" E. Phillips, 79, of Braham, took place June 19 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Phillips died June 15 at his residence. He was born Oct. 17, 1918 in Akron, Ohio, to Fred Phillips and Rose Koukle. He was a truck driver and a World War II veteran.
