Michael C. Dahle, 41
Michael Carl Dahle, age 41, died October 26, 1999 outside London, England.
Mike was born on September 9, 1958 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Gordon and Marlys (Erickson) Dahle. He grew up in the Elbow Lake Wendell area and was baptized and confirmed in the St. Olaf Church. Both Mike and Karen graduated from Elbow Lake-Wendell High School in 1977.
He began work as a young 15-year-old, working for the city of Elbow Lake, Cenex, Sauby Insulation and Grant County Lumber. Mike was joined in marriage to Karen Jacoby on September 2, 1978 at St. Olaf Church in Elbow Lake. They lived there for a short time before moving to Alexandria in January, 1979. Mike and Karen became members of St. Mary's Catholic Church and started their family, giving birth to Nicole Lynn in 1982 and Alicia Marie in 1984.
Mike worked at Lampert Lumber in Alexandria before beginning his 15 year career with Douglas Machine in 1984. He also worked for Phil Haabala Construction off and on doing miscellaneous construction jobs.
Mike loved being active with his family and friends and rarely spent weekends at home. He often went camping and four-wheeling with the family and close friends. There was never a family occasion that Mike ever missed.
He also loved working with wood and made many beautiful things which we will treasure forever. He was a guy that could do just about anything and always put his whole heart into everything. As a high school boy, Mike, along with his brothers, loved the sport of wrestling and had the chance to compete at state competition in 1974. He continued to show his love for wrestling by volunteering his time and talents to the Alexandria Elementary Wrestling Club.
Mike was greatly loved and will be missed by all of us. We can take comfort in knowing that he is with God and we thank him for giving us those 41 years of his life.
Mike is survived by his wife Karen; daughters: Nicole and Alicia of Alexandria; mother Marlys Dahle of Wendell; father and mother-in-law Joseph and Mary Jacoby of Kensington; five brothers: Robert (Cheryl) Dahle of Breckenridge; Gordon (Arlene) Dahle of Sanford, NC; Dean (Deb) Dahle of El Paso, TX; Kevin (Shirley) Dahle of Alexandria; and Gary Dahle of Los Angeles, CA; three sisters: Kathleen (Larry) Windom of Rockford; Debra (Henry) Price of Fergus Falls; Cindy (Jeff) Mithun of Glenwood; great-aunt Priscilla Norling of Alexandria; aunt Bernice Berg of Elbow Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in death by his father Gordon; grandparents Carl and Gemelia Dahle and Peter and Elizabeth Erickson and aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial was on November 1, 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Al Ludwig officiating. Carol Hagen was the organist and Annetta Knowles and Myron Larson, soloists.
Interment
was at St. Mary's Cemetery with Jeff Lenarz, Les Feigum, Tim Bjorgum, Kevin Jacoby, Keith Jacoby and Kirk Jacoby serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Mike's five brothers.

Myrtle A. Pennie, 90
Myrtle A. Pennie, 90, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, formerly of Villard, died Wednesday at the Park River Estates Care Center, Coon Rapids.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Villard Methodist Church, Villard. Interment
was at the Lake Leven Cemetery, Villard.
Myrtle Agnes Cayler was born on April 27, 1909 in Amboy to the parents Fred and Agnes (Rinehart) Cayler. Myrtle and her younger brother, Glenn, lost their parents at an early age and went to live with Aunt Clara Rinehart in Miltona. Myrtle was graduated from Montevideo High School in 1927 and received a teaching certificate from St. Cloud Normal School the following year. She started teaching in 1928 in a country school in Yellow Medicine County and continued teaching the next eight years at several school districts in Douglas County.
Murton and Myrtle were married on July 12, 1938 and then drove to Fort Benton, Montana in a Model A Ford. They returned to Minnesota in 1941 and farmed four miles north of Villard until retirement in 1964. Murton and Myrtle continued enjoying their farm, home and country living. Myrtle was a homemaker, active in her church and a member of the North Side Birthday Club. She enjoyed 20 years of teaching Sunday school, gardening, quilting, playing the piano and organ and especially writing letters and keeping her journals. Myrtle loved her Lord and she loved the music and hymns of the church. After lovingly nurturing her family and grandchildren and little creatures such as ducklings, piglets and kittens, Myrtle began residing at Park River Estates Care Center in 1991.
Myrtle is survived by one son, Vernon (Dawn) Pennie of Marine on St. Croix; three daughters: Rebecca (Dennis) Tipton of Kansas City, MO; Sylvia (Wayne) Crow of Bonaire, GA; Evelyn (Tom) Fischer of Anoka; eight grandchildren: Robb Roy Pennie, Shannon Renee Pennie Borton, Michelle Rebecca Tipton, Christopher Tipton, Stirling Crawford Crow, Stewart Cayler Crow, Molly Lenore Fischer and Amanda Suzanne Fischer; and two great-granddaughters: Darby Brynne Borton and Aidan Grace Borton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Murton in April of 1984 and brother Glenn Forrest Cayler.
Arrangements were with the Hoplin Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Russell Volkman, 73
Russell Volkman, age 73, of Long Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Russell Charles Volkman was born on April 9, 1926 in Little Sauk Township, Todd County to John and Elizabeth (Schwanke) Volkman. He attended School District #29 in Little Sauk Township. Russ worked on area farms until he was called to serve his country during World War II. On November 13, 1944 he was enlisted in the U.S. Army. Some of his service time was spent in France. He received the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific-Theatre Ribbon, two Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge on August 12, 1946, Russ returned to Minnesota.
On March 18, 1951 he was united in marriage to Ardelle Eastman in Osakis. The couple made their home in St. Paul where Russ went to work for the New Brighton Pole Yard. His next employment was as a welder with Seeger Refrigeration which was later bought out by Whirlpool Refrigeration. He worked there until his retirement in 1984. After retirement the Volkmans returned to the Little Sauk area and have lived there to the present time.
Russ was a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, St. Paul and now belonged to the Long Bridge Lutheran Church, Little Sauk. He belonged to the American Legion in St. Paul, joining the Little Sauk Legion upon his retirement.
Russ enjoyed nature and being outdoors. He was an avid fisherman all summer and also kept busy tending his garden, caring for his beef cattle and helping out area farmers. He liked to work in his garage tinkering with cars and always enjoyed playing cards or a game of dominos. He was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ardelle of Long Prairie; children: Karen Larson of St. Paul; Sandy (Dave) Christensen of Shoreview; Kenneth Volkman of Plum City, Wisconsin; Richard Volkman of St. Paul; Julie (Jim) Staples of Inver Grove Heights; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Norman Volkman of St. Paul and Lester Volkman of Maplewood; and many nieces and nephews.
Russ is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 30, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Long Bridge Lutheran Church in Little Sauk Township, Osakis with Reverend Steve Hilde officiating. Music was provided by organist, Alvina Vickstrom and soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment
was at the church cemetery.
Casketbearers were Larry Witthoeft, Ron Jacobson, Jim and Todd Peters, Chad Schwanke and Bob Volkman.

R.D. "Hop" Cassady, age 74, of Nelson, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, November 2, 1999, in Alexandria. Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 6, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the Fahlun Lutheran Church in rural Nelson. Interment
will be at the Fahlun Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Esther Rotz, 80
Esther Rotz, 80, of Millerville, Minnesota, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at the Crestview Manor in Evansville in the company of her family.
Esther G. Rotz was born on July 21, 1919 in Millerville Township, Douglas County, Minnesota. Her parents were Joseph and Martha (Peukulick) Politeske and her stepfather was Nick Klimek. She attended country school through the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to William A. Rotz on October 3, 1944 at the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Dolors. The couple have made their home on a farm north of Millerville for many years.
Before her marriage she worked at various jobs in Minneapolis and Fergus Falls. She also worked beginning in 1968 at the Millerville Supermarket, then later at The Old Mill in Urbank and the Urbank Co-op Store, until her retirement in 1990.
Esther is remembered for her tremendous energy. She thoroughly enjoyed being with her grandchildren and was known for preparing wonderful family feasts. Over the years, Esther found pleasure in having a garden and attending various chores on the farm including raising chickens, ducks and geese.
Esther is survived by her husband William Rotz of Millerville; two sons: Wayne (Linda) Rotz of Clitherall and Cliff (Kay) Rotz of Dunbar, West Virginia; four grandchildren: Melanie, Derek, Nicholas and Joseph; two brothers: Arthur Politeske of St. Cloud and Bernie Klimek of Millerville; and one sister: Evelyn (John) Koep of Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Alice.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, November 1, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Dolors in Millerville with Reverend Eugene Lemm officiating. Organist was Rose Korkowski and soloist was Pat Haynes. The church choir also sang.
Casketbearers were Joe Koep Jr., Daryl Koep, Mike Koep, Pat Koep, Greg Koep and Gary Rotz.
Arrangements were by Markham Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie.
Marvin E. Bergner, 86
Marvin Elford Bergner was born on January 29, 1913 the son of Ole and Anna (Lindner) Bergner in La Grande Township, Minnesota. He lived his entire life in Douglas County. As a child he attended Country School District #88. He worked on the family farm and then went to work for Bob Jelsing. Later Marvin worked for Alexandria Lumber for 28 years and Bellanca Aircraft for eight years.
In July, 1939, Marvin married Hazel West of Alexandria. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July of 1999. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising produce in his garden.
Marvin died on October 28, 1999 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife Hazel; two sons: Richard (Marion) of Spring Hill, FL; James (Carole) of Portland, OR and a brother Sidney of Alexandria. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and sister Cora Palmer.
Funeral services were held on November 2, 1999 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend William Rowen officiating. Music was provided by Ruth Peterson, organist and Dwayne Soderholm, soloist.
Interment
was at the Kinkead Cemetery with Don Fernow, Don Ogren, Stan Ramsdell and Kermit Hohnwaldt serving as pallbearers.

Esther M. Bjerke, 96
Esther M. Bjerke, age 96, of Hoffman Good Samaritan Center, passed away Saturday, October 30, 1999 at the Center.
Esther was born December 19, 1902 in Land Township, Grant County, Minnesota to Andrew and Mary (Johnson) Mattson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church in Hoffman and attended school in Hoffman. On Febraury 9, 1923, Esther was united in marriage to M. Benjamin Bjerke in Elbow Lake by the Reverend Gustafson. The couple lived in Grant County all of their lives. Mr. Bjerke passed away in 1947. Following his death Esther worked as a housekeeper, child caregiver, and cared for many ill and dying people in the area. For several years Esther was a cook at the Hoffman public school.
Esther was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved crocheting, baking and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter Marie Bjerke of Hoffman; grandchildren: Randy (Lois) Bjerke of Boulder, Colorado; Bobbie (Greg) Starns of Starbuck; Joan (Ken) Johnson of Hoffman; six great-grandchildren: Mike and Glen Bjerke, Ben and Todd Starns and Tracy and Brent Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Marshall, brothers, Albert, Oscar, Fred, Elmer and Rudolph Mattson, sister Emily Braaten and great-granddaughter Karla Bjerke.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman with the Reverend Douglas Gjerset officiating. Burial was in the Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hoffman.
Soloists for the service were Faye Giese and Brent Johnson and Laverne Olson was the organist.
Casketbearers were Ben and Todd Starns, Tracy and Brent Johnson, Clair Mattson and Glen and Mike Bjerke.

Doris Mary Grimsrud, 85
Doris Mary Grimsrud, 85, of Buffalo, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at the Park View Care Center.
She was born in Madison, Minnesota on March 27, 1914 the daughter of Martin and Paula Didrickson Varud.
Doris attended the Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis and then went on to attend a Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a nurse in Glenwood prior to her marriage to Andrew J. Grimsrud. Doris became a devoted wife and mother for many years.
She attended St. Mary's College in Rochester and graduated with a major in nursing on May 31, 1974. Mrs. Grimsrud became a registered nurse and was employed at the Onamia Hospital and later at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Wayzata.
She is survived by two daughters: Andrea (John) O'Brien of Brockton, Massachusetts and Miriam Grimsrud of Andover; a granddaughter: Courtney O'Brien; sister: Judith Osteraas of Madison; and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Grimsrud was preceded in death by her husband: Andrew "Andy" Grimsrud in 1982; daughter: Paula Grimsrud in 1984; and by her parents: Martin and Paula Varud.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Pastor Arthur Montgomery officiated and interment
followed at the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.
Faith Thorfinnson was the organist and Dr. Randall Pederson was the soloist.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
Dorothy Anderson Waa, 63
Dorothy Anderson Waa, 63, resident of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Ashby and Evansville died on Tuesday, November 2, 1999. Visitation will be on Monday, November 8 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home with graveside services at noon at Rose Hill Cemetery in Holmes City, with Reverend Klug officiating.
Doris L. Carlson, 90
Doris L. Carlson, 90, of Jackson, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 1999. She is preceded in death by her husband Norville Carlson also of Jackson.
Norville and Doris lived in Alexandria from 1968 to 1982.
Funeral services were held at Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson on October 29, 1999 with Reverend David Fretham officiating.

Jennie Kooiman, 105
Jennie Elizabeth Adriana Kooiman was born on February 5, 1894 the daughter of Pieter and Cornelia (Brinks) Kooiman in Leota, Minnesota. She grew up and attended Teachers Training and became a teacher in Minnesota in 1914. There she met a fellow teacher, Augusta Sterling, whose faithful life appealed to Jennie. Jennie professed that same year and was moved to give her life in the ministry in 1920. She actively ministered for a non-denominational congregation until 1975-76. She never lost her love and concern for others, willingly helping wherever needed. Her hobbies included her love of flowers and seashell crafts.
Jennie died on October 28, 1999 at the age of 105 at the Clarissa Care Center. She is preceded in death by her parents; five sisters: Minnie, Mary, Sebia, Susie and Margie; and six brothers: John, Gerrit, Jacob, Abe, William and Herman.
Funeral services were held on November 1, 1999 at the Radisson Arrowwood Convention Center in Alexandria with Gaylen VanLoon, Craig Windquist and Myrtle Stitt officiating.
Interment
was at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria with Richard Raschke, John Smart, Tim Severud, Brad Holman, Dean Dykstra and Dan Ohl serving as pallbearers. Ushers were Jon Knochenmus, Ron Johnson, Ben Tuin and Brad Stuefen.

David W. Thompson, 61
David Wesley Thompson was born on April 7, 1938 to Robert and Hilda (Eidem) Thompson in Douglas County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Chippewa Lutheran Church of Brandon. He graduated from Brandon Public School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He was married to Diann Larson on June 10, 1961. He worked with his father in the auto body business and was manager of the Moe-Urness-Lund Insurance Company for almost 30 years. David also served on the Brandon City Council and Fire Department.
Music was a big part of Dave's life. He sang with the Gospel Messengers and the Chippewa Choir for many years. He also enjoyed old time music playing his saxophone, fishing and golf.
David is survived by his wife, Diann; children: Robyn and husband Brad; Darrin and wife Pam; Troy and wife Samantha; Stacy and husband Joseph; five grandchildren: Blaine, Michael, Kasey, Tyler and Christine; and brother Bruce of Springfield, Oregon.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 9, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at the Chippewa Lutheran Church with Reverend Tony Stockman officiating. Musical selections were by the Gospel Messengers and Evelyn Lanners.
Pallbearers were Ray Lanners, Jim Rolf, Dale Johnson, John Rolf, Duane Johnson and Dick Pahl.
Interment
was at the Chippewa Cemetery in Brandon.

Theodore 'Ted' Gomsrud, 52
Theodore 'Ted' David Gomsrud, 52, died Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at the Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hoplin Funeral Chapel, Glenwood, Minnesota, with Pastor Arthur Montgomery of Glenwood Lutheran Church officiating.
A gravesite ceremony was held at Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea Saturday, November 6, at 4 p.m. with Pastor Don Rose of First Lutheran officiating.
Ted was born on July 6, 1947 at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead. He lived in Glenwood from 1947 to 1956. He attended a special school at Faribault until he moved to Alexandria to a group home of Project New Hope which later became Prairie Community Services for 25 years. Due to illness he was moved to Villa - St. Francis at Morris and later to Prairie View of Slayton.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Lila (Lang) Gomsrud, sister, Ann Roberta (Gomsrud) Beswick and her husband Loren, a nephew, Andrew, two nieces, Kjerstin and Sarah, all of which live in Sterling, Illinois and a very special friend for many years Harold Gronningan of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Theodore and Dora (Morriem) Gomsrud and David and Lydia Lang.

Vern L. Olson, 83
Vern L. Olson, 83, a 23 year resident of Chehalis and Centralia, Washington, died October 11, 1999 in an automobile accident.
He was born August 19, 1916 in Hoffman, Minnesota to Helmer O. and Olga C. (Lien) Olson. He attended schools near Hoffman and completed his school at Alexandria, graduating in 1935. He then worked for North American Creamery and was with the Minnesota National Guard from 1938 to 1940. In 1940 his guard unit was activated and he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during WWII. Prior to enlisting in the Army he married Wilda L. Kroh on June 30, 1940 in Alexandria.
Following his discharge from the Army he began working with his father-in-law in Minnesota in a road construction business. In 1966 the family moved to Tacoma where he continued working as a heavy equipment operator in various construction projects. They moved to Chehalis 23 years ago and Mr. Olson worked for WIDCO, Centralia Mining Company until he retired in 1983. Following his retirement he operated Vern's Sharpening Service which he operated out of his home.
Vern was a longtime active member of the Lutheran Church and was a former Church Council member, longtime usher and member of the Evangelical Committee of St. John's Lutheran Church in Chehalis. He also volunteered with the Lewis County Food Bank. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and was a great story-teller. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and following their basketball and baseball activities. He also enjoyed having coffee with his many friends. His favorite times were holidays and birthday parties. Vern was also a life member of the American Legion and a Past Commander of the Alexandria American Legion Post.
His wife, Wilda L. Olson preceded him in death on May 26, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a brother Jerome Olson in 1990.
He is survived by two daughters: Darlene Nelson, Aberdeen, WA; Joyce Thorne, Mead, WA; two brothers: Donald L. Olson, Kirkland, WA; Harley Olson, Auburn, WA; sister: Marion Bennett, Tacoma, WA; and five grandchildren.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday, October 15 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chehalis with Pastor Jim Braaten officiating. Private Inurnment was held at Claquato Cemetery.
Sticklin Funeral Chapel in Centralia, Washington was in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Serena Zauner, 93
Hazel Serena (Nelson) Zauner was born on March 24, 1906 the daughter of Tom and Hilda (Mattson) Nelson in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The family bought a farm and moved to Alexandria in 1910. Hazel attended and graduated from the Central High School.
Hazel married Charles Whittaker in 1925. Together they had five children: Gladys, Margaret, Wallace, Warren and James. Charles died in 1937. Hazel married Joseph Zauner in 1953.
Hazel died on November 7, 1999 at the age of 93. She is survived by sons: Wallace (Gloria) Whittaker of Coon Rapids; Warren Whittaker of Phoenix, AZ; Jim Whittaker of Hudson, WI; daughter Gladys LaValle of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one niece and four nephews. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, brother Arthur, daughter Margaret and husbands Charles Whittaker and Joseph Zauner.
Funeral services were held on November 10, 1999 at the Calvary Lutheran Church with Reverend Keith Forrester officiating. Becky Worley was the organist and Mary Lou Moll, soloist.
Interment
was at the Geneva Cemetery with Rick LaValle, Gary LaValle, Mike Nowicki, Doug Whittaker, Dan Whittaker and Bill Whittaker serving as pallbearers.

Delbert Richie, 79
Delbert Joseph Richie was born on March 3, 1920 the son of Noah and Alma (Sutton) Richie in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Delbert graduated from Sheridan High School in northeast Minneapolis. He started work at the age of 16 to help support the family and self-taught himself as a mechanic. He served in the Minnesota National Guard. On November 7, 1952, Delbert was united in marriage to Hazel (Kunde) in Bellingham. He later worked for Quigley Motors in St. Paul and Park Jeep in St. Louis Park where he eventually was the shop manager. He also served as a Police Reserve Officer for the city of Bloomington.
Delbert and Hazel were involved as charter members of the Lutheran Church of the Redemption in Bloomington. The couple lived in the Twin Cities until 1974 when they retired and moved to Alexandria.
Delbert died on November 10, 1999 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife Hazel of Alexandria; sons: Dennis (Lanell) Richie of Webster; James (Colleen) Richie of Eagan; daughter: Susan (Dennis) Garvey of Northfield; grandchildren: Shawn (Michelle) Richie of Bremington, Washington; Denise Richie of Tempe, Arizona; Joseph Richie of Eagan; Serena Tuhy of Eagan; Michael Garvey of Northfield; and John Garvey of Northfield. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Bernard.
Funeral services were held November 14, 1999 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend William Moeller officiating. Music was provided by Lori Krueger, organist.
Funeral services were also held on November 15, 1999 at the Redemption Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Reverend Dennis Drews and Reverend William Moeller officiating. Ruth Ellinger was the organist.

LaVerne Baumann, 65
LaVerne Joseph Baumann was born on January 6, 1934, the son of John and Amelia (Guggisberg) Baumann in Storden, Minnesota. LaVerne attended Storden High School and graduated in 1951. On March 8, 1952 he married Algona Henkel in Lamberton and worked on the farm. The couple later moved to Garfield on November 9, 1981.
LaVerne's hobbies included fishing and deer hunting. He thoroughly loved his job at Andes Tower Hills in Kensington.
LaVerne died on Monday, November 8, 1999 at the age of 65.
He is survived by his wife Algona of Garfield; sons: David (Dena Turner) Baumann of Palmer, Alaska; Gerald of Garfield; Daniel (Jean) Baumann of Wahpeton, North Dakota; Bruce (Chris) Baumann of Sisseton, South Dakota; two grandchildren: Megan Baumann of Marshall; Brooks Baumann of Wahpeton; brothers: John (Edith) Baumann of Lamberton; Jerome (Dorothy) Baumann of Hooper, Nebraska; Bernard (Marilyn) Baumann of Montevideo; sisters: Gertrude Iverson of Lamberton; Loretta Quiring of Lamberton; Agnes Amburn of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Irene (Benny) Hoffman of Benson.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Edward Baumann and a special cousin Vincent Baumann.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on November 11, 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alexandria with Reverend Al Ludwig officiating. Music was provided by Carol Hagen, organist and Sonny Osterberg, soloist.
Interment
was at the St. Mary's Cemetery with Harlan Hokanson (Snoose), Paul Anderson, John Iverson, Ken Baumann, Terry Neperman and Tom Henkel serving as pallbearers.

Floris Kloos, 95
Floris Kloos, age 95, of the Barrett Care Center, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 1999 at the Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake with Reverend Lewin Clefisch officiating. Burial was in the Lakeside Cemetery, Herman.
Vocalists were Kari Krusemark and Mark Haberer and organist was Julie Ritter.
Casketbearers were grandchildren Deb Carlson, Jan Banke, Paul Shogren, Cindy Kling, Lisa Dela Cruz, Pete Shogren, Jim Kloos, Phil Kloos, Jon Hanson, Ann Jenkins, Marie Harris, Dana Hanson, Jennifer Dawson and Fiona Dawson.
Floris was born July 10, 1904 in Herman, Minnesota to Delbert W. and Mabel (Johnson) Pattison. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, attended elementary school in Herman and graduated from high school in Elbow Lake in 1921 at the age of 16. Floris continued her education at Normal Training and was teaching in District #16 when she met Lawrence C. Kloos. They were married September 21, 1926.
The couple farmed in Roseville Township where Floris was a charter member of the Help Mate Club. She was also organist at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Barrett for many years. After 29 years of farming, Lawrence and Floris moved to Alexandria. In 1972 they moved to Elbow Lake. Lawrence passed away in 1981. Floris was an active member of United Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Dorcas Society. She was active with the local IR party and enjoyed ceramics and handwork. She made the Barrett Care Center her home in March of 1995.
Survivors include her children: Patricia (Les) Shogren of Alexandria; Lawrence (Collene) Kloos Jr. of Hoffman; Mary Alice (Jim) Hanson of Minnetonka; Floris Ann Dawson of Caledonia, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren: Deb Carlson, Jan Banke, Paul Shogren, Cindy Kling, Lisa Dela Cruz, Pete Shogren, Jim Kloos, Phil Kloos, Jon Hanson, Ann Jenkins, Marie Harris, Dana Hanson, Jennifer Dawson and Fiona Dawson; 34 great-grandchildren; sister: Ruth Evavold of Johanna House, Ashby; sisters-in-law: Blanche Pattison and Mary Pattison, both of Elbow Lake; and brother-in-law Iner Pikop of Elbow Lake;
She was preceded in death by her parents Delbert and Mabel; husband Lawrence C. Kloos; an infant daughter; brothers: Dwaine and Earl Pattison; and sister Joyce Pikop.
Arrangements were with the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake.
Jean Marie Nystuen, 69
Jean Marie Nystuen, daughter of Elmer and Eva (Bearl) Nystuen, was born March 11, 1930 at Morris, Minnesota, where she grew up and received her education. Jean was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Morris.
Following her graduation from Morris High School in 1948 she worked at various jobs in the Morris area before taking a position as an operator with Bell Telephone Company in Morris. On September 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Pedersen in Morris. Soon after their marriage the couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1963 they returned to Morris where they opened the Pedersen Funeral Home. They operated the funeral home with Ken's brother Merrill and his wife Marlene until 1991 when they sold the business and retired. In 1992 they moved to Alexandria where they have continued to live since that time.
Jean was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Morris where she had been active singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and taking part in the Christian Women's group. She has been a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria since moving there in 1992. Jean was also active in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, she had served as both a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and was active in a local birthday club.
Some of her favorite hobbies included working crossword puzzles, raising flowers, doing needle point, sewing, cooking and baking, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends. Jean was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed by her entire family. Jean was truly a "Jeanie" - she brought happiness wherever she went.
Jean died Monday, November 8, 1999 at her home in Alexandria, having lived to reach the age of 69 years.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Pedersen of Alexandria; two sons: Doug (Mary) Pedersen of Ivanhoe; Woody (Cindy) Pedersen of Glenwood; daughter: Jane (Chris) Dahlen of Stevensville, VA; two brothers: Wayne (Wanda) Nystuen of Frazee; Jim Nystuen of Morris; two sisters: Bernice Nystuen of Morris; Phyllis Kiehl of Largo, FL; one sister-in-law: Ardice Nystuen of Buffalo; seven grandchildren: Mike, Brittany, Connie, Jeremy, Amy, Erika and Stephanie and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Richard and Orland Nystuen; and one sister: Verna Medlock.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 12, 1999 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Rollen Halvorson and Reverend Keith Forrester officiated. Burial was at the Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Pallbearers were Mike Thompson, Greg Thompson, Steve Peterson, Randy Pedersen, Terry Pedersen, David Nystuen, Ken Van Horn, Clarence Giese and Mel Sundquist.
Honorary Pallbearers were Shirley Grossman, Marilyn Staples, Marilyn Varnum, Corrine Flaten, Marion Thielke, Catherine Logan, Agnes Stensby and Shirley Holman. Deb Mahoney served as organist for the service.

Gerald Peterson, 67
Gerald 'Jerry' Peterson, 67, resident of Alexandria, died on Sunday, November 14, 1999 in Alexandria. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 17 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with Reverend Harold (Eric) Erickson officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.
Elvira M. Dimmick, 89
Elvira M. Dimmick, 89, a resident of Fergus Falls, Minnesota for 34 years, died Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at Broen Memorial Home where she had lived since 1985.
She was born on April 29, 1910, to August and Minnie Swenson of rural Alexandria, the youngest of their 11 children. Elvira (or Babe as she was called) married M. Walter Dimmick in 1936; he preceded her in death in 1951. They adopted a daughter, Dianne in 1944.
Babe obtained her beautician's license in Fargo, North Dakota and worked there for several years in the Powers Hotel beauty shop. She and her husband moved to South San Francisco in 1943 and she continued to work there after she was widowed for another 14 years. She moved to Fergus Falls in 1965 and worked in a beauty shop there. After retiring she continued to give haircuts and perms to friends in nursing homes.
She is survived by her daughter, two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 14 nephews and nieces. Her parents and her 10 brothers and sisters all preceded her in death, as did another nephew, Willis Swenson of rural Alexandria, but his widow, Mrs. Brigitte Swenson and their children John, Rick and Roger Swenson survive her.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Burial was in the Kinkead Cemetery at Alexandria.
Arrangements were with the Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
Eugene Edwin Hagedorn, 100
Eugene Edwin Hagedorn, age 100, formerly of rural Miltona, Minnesota, died on January 25, 2000 at Community Memorial Home in Osakis. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on January 29, 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Al Ludwig officiating. Music was provided by Carol Hagan, organist and Jane Herth, soloist. The cross bearer was Jerry Keller.
Eugene Hagedorn was born on December 14, 1899 in Brandon Township, Minnesota to August and Emily (Hupfeld) Hagedorn. On May 12, 1925 Eugene was united in marriage to Lydia Koeplin.
Eugene loved to hunt, fish, dance and garden. He also loved guiding fishermen. He was a true outdoorsman. Eugene loved to reminisce, tell stories and spend time with his family and friends.
Eugene is survived by two daughters: Irma and husband Alex (Gus) Anderson of Sauk Centre; Ruth Bylund of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother: Ferdinand Hagedorn of rural Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews. Eugene is preceded in death by his wife Lydia, grandson Robert Anderson, great-granddaughter Bethany Keller, great-great-granddaughter Kaitlynn Lanus and son-in-law Gerald Bylund.
Interment
was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Alexandria. Pallbearers included James Anderson, Charles Anderson, Bill Anderson, Marvin Lanus, Paul Vendel, Bruce Larson, Dick Kline and Alan Hagedorn. Honorary pallbearers were Lynn Lanus, Gwen Kline, Geri Larson, Devona Vendel, Cheryl Keller, Janet Anderson and John Anderson.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
Irene M. Elias, 97
Irene was born on February 13, 1902, in Hayfield, Minnesota the daughter of George and Ann Marie (Hanson) Mortensen. She attended school through the 8th grade.
Irene was united in marriage to Charles Elias on March 10, 1922, in Dodge Center. The Elias' lived in Dodge Center after their marriage and in 1945 moved to Alexandria. Irene and Charles owned and operated a restaurant in Alexandria which is now known as the Coffee Pot. The couple retired in 1962.
Mrs. Elias was a member of the Rebeccas and very active in her church.
Irene died on Monday, January 24, 2000. She is survived by two daughters: Vivian Loken and Vern of Clearwater, FL; Fern Bahr of Clearwater, FL; six grandchildren: Gary Loken of Punedin, FL; Lon Loken of Severna Park, Maryland; Tom Loken of Salt Lake City, Utah; Stacy Callaghan of Fort Worth, TX; Amy Callaghan of Colorado Springs, CO; Randy Ewan of San Francisco, CA; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held on Friday, January 28, 2000, 1 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center, Minnesota with Reverend David Mead officiating.
Services were directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.
