Buelah S. Jacobson, 84, of Preston
Buelah S. Jacobson, 84, of Preston, died Friday morning, Dec. 26, 1997, at the Preston Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1913, in Fillmore County, the daughter of Lewis and Isabel (Ibach) Jacobson. She attended public school and normal training in Preston. She taught in rural schools in the Preston area until starting with F&M Community Bank in Preston, where she was employed as assistant cashier for over 25 years until retirement.
She was a lifelong member of St. Columban's Catholic Church and the CCW, a member of Preston Browning Club, active in the Preston Public Library and past member of the Preston Garden Club.
She is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
There was a memorial Mass on Tuesday at St. Columban's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Loomis officiating. Her body was donated to the Mayo Foundation. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Burdette Jacobson, 76, of Cresco, Iowa
Burdette Jacobson, 76, of Cresco, passed away at the Howard County Hospital on Oct. 3, 1997.
Jacobson was born Oct. 31, 1920, at the farmhouse in Section 17 of Fremont Township, Winneshiek County, the son of Bennie J. and Selma (Pederson) Jacobson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Fremont Lutheran Church, and attended Fremont Six School through eighth grade.
On April 24, 1950, he married Elaine Watson at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Chester, Iowa. Burdette spent most of his life farming and lived on the Jacobson Century Farm at the time of his death. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his children, Byron Jacobson of Cresco and Niane Meyer of Tama, Iowa; two grandchildren, John B. Meyer of Iowa City, and Chris Ann McIntire of Dubuque; a great-granddaughter, Rahne McIntire; along with five sisters; Stella Larson of St. Michael, Minn., Marlys Scheevel of Preston, Shirley Timmerman of Maple Lake, Minn., Wilda Middlebrook of Cresco and Norma Larsen of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco on Monday, Oct. 6, with Father Michael Tauke officiating. Interment
was in St. Kerian's Cemetery, rural Cresco.

Lloyd E. Jacobson, 84, of Spring Valley
Lloyd E. Jacobson, 84, of Spring Valley, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Spring Valley Care Center where he had resided for the past 17 years.
He was born to Andrew and Mary Jacobson on Sept. 23, 1912, in rural Ostrander, Bennington Township, Mower County, and was a member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church near LeRoy where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended school in Ostrander. Mr. Jacobson had been ill with cerebral palsy since childhood. He enjoyed playing cards, horses and giving people rides in his horse-drawn cart.
Survivors include four brothers, Arthur and Russell, both of Austin; Alvin of Ostrander and Raymond of LeRoy; and a sister, Ruth (Mrs. Wendell) Hamlin of Austin and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Two brothers preceded him in death.
The funeral was Saturday at LeRoy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Kolden officiating. Casketbearers were Loren, Roger, Larry, and Bruce Jacobson, Ronald Timmerman, Douglas Beisell, Judy Barksdale, and Nancy Holland. Honorary casketbearers were the LeRoy Saddle Club and his nieces and nephews. Burial was in LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery.

Roger Nelson Jahns, 60, once of GM
Roger Nelson Jahns, 60, of Rochester, a former teacher, coach and Grand Meadow-area farmer, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1937, in Grand Meadow, grew up in Racine and graduated from Stewartville High School where he set the state record for the 120-yard high hurdles. That record still stands. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and received his master's degree in mathematics from Purdue University. Mr. Jahns taught junior high mathematics and coached football, baseball and track in Tracy, Minn., until 1965. He then farmed in rural Grand Meadow until 1986. He then was a real estate agent in Rochester, most recently for Priscilla White's Real Estate Services. On June 22, 1956, he married Lenora Del Billings in Stewartville and they were later divorced. He was a lifetime member of Pheasants & Habitat of Southeastern Minnesota.
Survivors include two daughters, Deb (Mrs. Craig) Johnson of Maple Grove, Minn. and Karen Jahns of Rochester; four sons, Tom and Paul of Seattle, Doug of Janesville, Wis., and Karl of Bettendorf, Iowa; seven grandchildren; his mother, Tess Jahns of Rochester; and two sisters, Audrey (Mrs. Allan) Oehlke of Grand Meadow and Paula (Mrs. John) McDougall of Elysian, Minn. His father preceded him in death.
The funeral was Saturday at Bear Creek Lutheran Church in rural Grand Meadow, with the Rev. Wayne Vogt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Eva Jech, 86, of Grand Meadow
Eva Jech, 86, of Grand Meadow, formerly of Dexter, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Grand Meadow where she had resided 4 1/2 years.
Eva Marten was born in March 30, 1911, in Canova, S.D. On Feb. 4, 1932, she married William Jech at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Canova. Mrs. Jech was a former farm homemaker. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Elkton.
Survivors include a son, Raymond of Rochester' seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Meta Butzke of Canova; and a brother, Siegfried Marten of Canova. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, five sisters and four brothers.
The funeral was Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Elkton with the Rev. Diane Joseph officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Gerald L. "Toby" Jennings, 56, of Lewisville, Texas, formerly of Grand Meadow, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, in Plano, Texas.
He was born April 8, 1941, in Spring Valley.
He married Margaret Jennings on Sept. 15, 1959, in Nashua, Iowa.
He was a police officer in Grand Meadow for many years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of Lewisville; one son, Jeffrey of LeRoy; four daughters, Jill (Mrs. Bob) Marrs of Ottertail, Minn., Julie Jennings of Ottertail, Jolene (Mrs. Leonard) Jennings-Brown of Lewisville and Janelle Jennings of Ottertail; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Eddy of Helena, Mont., and Donna Marrs of Kiowa, Colo.; and three brothers, Ted of Claremont, Bob of Ottertail and Marty Hansen of Stewartville.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wayne Vogt officiating. Burial in Bear Creek Cemetery in Frankford Township, Mower County.

Lucille Johnson, 86, of Mabel
Lucille Johnson, 86, of Mabel, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel where she had resided since 1992.
Lucille Harris was born June 13, 1911, in Postville, Iowa, and attended a Postville area school. On October 5, 1927, she married Ernest S. Johnson in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed until 1957 and then lived in Rushford where they owned the Johnson Coffee Shop. After moving to Dexter in 1964, she was a waitress and worked at Lake Center Industries in Stewartville. She moved to Canton after her husband's death in 1980. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Newburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Keith of Lewiston, William of Cresco, Iowa, and Neil of Dexter; a daughter, Ramona (Mrs. Lavern) Moger of Preston; 23 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, three brothers and five sisters.
The funeral was held Saturday at Newburg United Methodist Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Leonard Wildes officiating. Burial was in Newburg Methodist Cemetery.

Otilia B. Johnson, 88, formerly of Mabel
Otilia B. Johnson, 88, of Hastings, Minn., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, in Haven Home Health Care in Hastings, where she had resided since June of 1994.
The former Otilia Beatrice Jenson was born July 20, 1909, in Rushford. She moved as an infant to North Dakota. She returned at age 13 and finished her schooling. She married Carnet Johnson in Lanesboro on Dec. 8, 1934. He died Oct. 29, 1957. Following their marriage, the couple farmed north of Mabel. In 1961, she moved to Rochester and worked for Woolworths until retiring in 1971. She enjoyed crafts and her grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Johnson of Rochester and Nancy (Mrs. Larry) Hoff of Hastings; a son, Carrol Johnson of Scofield, Wis.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mearl (Mrs. Leonard) Ellestad of Winona and a brother Irvin Jenson of Waukesha, Wis. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
The funeral was Saturday in Homestead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Buller officiating. A graveside service was held at the Choice Cemetery in rural Mabel.
Ronald O. Johnson, 75, of Preston
Ronald O. Johnson, 75, of Preston, retired milk hauler and Minnesota Highway Department employee, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, in Preston.
He was born June 10, 1922, in Mabel, the son of Oscar and Jeva (Ladsten) Johnson. At age 10 the family moved to the Lanesboro area, where he attended the Durkin Country School.
He married Mildred Behnke Sept. 7, 1952, in Preston and the couple made their home there. In 1950 he started a milk route hauling to the Lanesboro Co-op Creamery. He also drove bus for the Lanesboro School District. In 1967 he was employed by the Minnesota Highway Department where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1987. After retirement he worked for Wilson Motor Works, rural Preston, as a parts co-ordinator. Mrs. Johnson died Aug. 28, 1982.
He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, having served on the church council, and a past member of the Preston Lions and Ducks Unlimited organizations. His hobbies were cars, baseball, fishing and being a "big brother" to neighbors and friends.
He is survived by a twin brother; Donald J. (Rita) Johnson of LaCrosse, Wis.; a sister, Eleanor Davidson of Rushford; and special friend, Rita Kramer of Preston; three nephews, Gary Davidson, of Byron, Jeffrey L. Davidson of Mabel, and Nathan Davidson of Grand Meadow; and one niece, Heidi Omodth of Mabel.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Preston, with the Rev. Joe Schularick officiating. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Ole K. Jones, 86, lifelong area resident
Ole K. Jones, 86, a lifelong area dairy farmer, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Preston Good Samaritan Care Center.
He was born July 29, 1911, to John H. and Gertrude Jones in York Township, Fillmore County. He was baptized and confirmed at Saetersdal Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in York township and the University of Minnesota Agricultural School. He served in active duty as a medical technician in Europe during World War II. On return he farmed and on August 23, 1947, married Ruby Louise Mundfrom at Saetersdal.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Tom Kappers, Spring Valley; Eunice Anne and Robert Biel and Marian and Stuart Morem, of Harmony; Mary Ellen Jones and Paul Claus of Rochester, Margaret and Alan Ness of Chester, Iowa, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
The funeral was Saturday at Saetersdal Lutheran Church, rural Lime Springs, Iowa, with the Rev. Barb Finley-Shea officiating. Burial was in Saetersdal Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by the Ostrander-Spring Valley American Legion and VFW Posts.

Jacqueline Kahl, 68, once of area
Jacqueline Lorraine Kahl, 68, Joice, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at her home.
She was born May 3, 1929, at St. Paul, the daughter of Arnold August Albert and Winona Vac (Cardinal) Zuehlke. She graduated from West Division High School, Milwaukee.
On Oct. 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Maynard Kahl at Grand Meadow. She was an avid crafter and loved to quilt. She also enjoyed traveling with Maynard to Texas to spend the winter.
She was a past member of the Clear Lake Women's Club and volunteered at the Handicap Village General Store.
She is survived by her husband, Maynard Kahl, Joice; two daughters and their spouses, Judith Vae and John Wonsmos, Joice, and Barbara Jean and Bruce Wood, Rockford; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Zuehlke, Milwaukee, a niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 18, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Joice, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial was in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Joice.

Anna Kampstra, 78, of Harmony
Anna Kampstra, 78, of Harmony, died at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Preston, Oct. 5, 1997.
Kampstra was born June 14, 1919, in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, the daughter of J. Claire and Bertha (Winch) Turner. She attended school at Henrytown and Canton. She was united in marriage to Gerrit Kampstra on Sept. 5, 1942, at Canton. They farmed in the Hutton Valley near Harmony until 1972 when they moved into Harmony.
Mr. Kampstra passed away in August of 1975. She continued living in Harmony in her own home and also several years in the home of Karen Morris, until 1991, when she entered the Preston Good Samaritan Care Center. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Big Spring, and greatly appreciated the many remembrances and expressions of kindness shown her by the congregation over the years. Her birthday was always a very special day for her, and especially since it occurred on Flag Day. She would often say "They've got all the flags up for my birthday." She will be fondly remembererd for her love of people and the big smile with which she always greeted people. A highlight of her later years was being able to attend the wedding of her granddaughter in the summer in 1996.
Left to mourn her departure are her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Roger and Joyce Kampstra of Fertile, Iowa; a granddaughter, Lisa Ruettimann and her husband, Ron, of Hudson, Wis.; two grandsons, Daniel and Thomas Kampstra of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Winnefred Milne of St. Helens, Ore; a brother, Paul Turner of Scappoose, Ore; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Turner of Maple Grove, Minn., and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Zola Turner, and two brothers, Robert and Wayne Turner.

Fae A. Kappers, 71, of Spring Valley, died Sunday morning, Aug. 24, 1997, at the Spring Valley Care Center.
The former Fae Kumm was born April 27, 1926, in Spring Valley, the daughter of Raymond and Hilda (Schneider) Kumm. She was raised in Spring Valley and graduated with honors from Spring Valley High School in 1944. She married Francis Kappers and the couple made their home in the Spring Valley area. She worked at Waters-Conley, Sears and retired from First National Bank in Rochester. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley where she taught Sunday school and was active in its women's groups. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by her husband, Francis; five sons, Eugene of Spring Valley, Michael of Chatfield, Thomas and Leland, both of Spring Valley, Steven of Prior Lake, Minn.; two daughters, Linda Apenhorst and Carla Tart, both of Spring Valley; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Everett Kumm of Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Faith United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Burial will be in Etna Cemetery, rural Spring Valley. Helen M. Kiltie, 91, of St. Paul and formerly of Lanesboro, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Kiltie; brothers Edwin, Clarence, Carl and Raymond. She is survived by a brother, Adolph (Linda); five sisters Mina, Christine, Olga, Evelyn and Doris (Art), and many nieces and nephews.
The body was cremated, with a memorial service held on Friday at Episcopal Church Home Chapel, St. Paul.
George J. King, 93, of Spring Valley
George J. King, 93, of Spring Valley, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at Saint Marys Hospital.
He was born June 11, 1904, in rural Stewartville. He farmed in the Spring Valley area.
On Oct. 2, 1929, he married Linda Makowski in Spring Valley. She preceded him in death in 1971. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mr. King is survived by two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Kenneth) Bjostad of St. Paul and Georgia Barber of Stewartville; two sons, Russell King of New Haven, Mich., and Gordon King of Spring Valley; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Jon Olson and the Rev. Marlene Pankonin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Leslie A. King, 76, once of Spring Valley
Leslie A. King, 76, of Mounds View, Minn., formerly of Spring Valley, died Aug. 18, 1997, at his home as the result of polio and cancer.
Born Feb. 1, 1921, in Spring Valley, he graduated from Winona State Teacher's College with a degree in education and served in the Navy from 1943 to 1947, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He and Gladys Sanford of Dodge Center were married 54 years. After earning a bachelor's degree in educational administration and a doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Minnesota he continued on the staff of the university as coordinator of admissions, orientation, registration and advising in the general college and the college of liberal arts for more than 30 years. He retired as professor emeritus in June 1986. Early in his educational career he was stricken with bulbar polio. The Alumni Society of Winona State honored him twice as a distinguished alumnus. During retirement he remained active in civic organizations.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Margaret; two grandsons; four sisters, Joy Evans of Stewartville, and Neva, Bernice and Doris; and a brother, Harland of Stewartville. A son, a sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 24, at First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis. Memorials are suggested to First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis; Class of 1942 Scholarship Fund at Winona State University, or Home Based Primary Care Unit of Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis.
Neva M. King, 93, SVHS graduate
Neva M. King, 93, of Winona, a former public school teacher, died of cancer Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at the Watkins Home in Winona.
Born Sept. 22, 1904, in Fillmore County, she was a graduate of Spring Valley High School and received a degree in education from Winona State College in 1938. An elementary teacher in Minnesota public schools, she began in rural schools in 1941, later taught in Eden Prairie and Lake City, and retired in 1970 as the fifth grade teacher at Madison School in Winona.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, Guild Circle and Reading Group, and for several years conducted tours to explain the symbolism of the Central United Methodist Church windows. Miss King was a life member of the Retired Teachers Association of Minnesota and its affiliates, and a member of the Watkins Home Auxiliary and Winona County Historical Society. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states, many parts of Canada and Europe. For many years, she was active in the Home Delivered Meals program, was a long-time Heart Fund volunteer, and this past spring established the Neva M. King Scholarship Fund at Winona State University to assist students in the College of Education who are majoring in the elementary education program.
Survivors include a brother, Harland King of Stewartville; three sisters, Doris Barnes of Chatfield, Joy Evans of Stewartville and Bernice (Mrs. Earl) Ellenberg of Lake City, formerly of Spring Valley. She was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
The funeral was Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church in Winona with the Rev. Mary Hurmence officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.

Orilee B. Kleimenhagen, 87, of Preston, died On Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at the Preston Good Samaritan Care Center were she had been a resident since September 1996.
Orilee Bernice Nelson was born in Fillmore County on June 13, 1910. She attended area schools and married Vernon W. Kleimenhagen on Jan. 9, 1929. Following their marriage, they farmed in rural Preston. Later she was a cook at the Preston Elementary School for 10 years. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a son, Verdon of Burnsville, Minn.; two daughters, Yvonne Osterud and Kay Helland of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Frederick Nelson of Fountain; a sister, Florence Pickett of Austin, Minn., seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, who died April 12, 1965, a brother and two sisters.
The funeral will be today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev Joe Schularick officiating. Burial will be at the Preston United Methodist Cemetery on Windy Ridge.

Verdon Kleimenhagen, 66, Preston native
Verdon Kleimenhagen, 66, of Burnsville, Minn., formerly of Preston, died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov, 21, 1997, in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Verdon Kleimenhagen was born May 23, 1931, in Preston, the son of Vernon and Orilee (nee Nelson) Kleimenhagen. he was raised in Preston and graduated from Preston High School in 1949. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. On Oct. 23, 1954, he married Carol stevens in Estherville, Iowa. They had been residents of Burnsville since 1971. In 1994, he retired as an accident prevention specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration where he had worked for the past 31 years. In 1988, he obtained the Civil Servant of the Year Award from the Federal Executive Board of the Twin Cities. He had worked out of the Minneapolis F.A.A. office since 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; two sons, Steve (Kathy) and their children, Cassandra and Jacob, all of Burnsville and Marc (Ellen) and their children, Leah, John and Anne of Green Bay, Wis., as well as two sisters, Yvonne Osterud and Kay Helland, both of Evansville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Orilee Kleimenhagen. Memorials are preferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 201 E. Nicollet Blvd. in Burnsville with the Rev. Bonnie Nash officiating. Kenneth E. Kleven, 74, of rural Chatfield, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, in Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis where he had been a patient since Oct. 20.
He was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Pilot Mound Township in rural Chatfield. He married Clara Bell Lee in South Dakota and they were later divorced. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1946. He lived in South Dakota where he owned and operated a gravel truck. He returned to the Pilot Mound area in 1968 where he was a mechanic, a cemetery caretaker and a caretaker for Bucksnort Park. He taught AA for many years. He was a member of the Lanesboro American Legion.
Surviving are his son, Daryl of Rochester; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecilla Olson of Rochester. He was preceded in death by one son.
Funeral services were Friday at Pilot Mound Lutheran with Rev. Lynn Zaffke officiating. Burial was in Northwest Pilot Mound Cemetery. There was a military graveside service by the American Legion.

Dean C. Kneeskern, 88, of Preston
Dean C. Kneeskern, 88, of Preston, died Saturday morning, Nov. 29, 1997, at Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, Ariz.
He was born April 10, 1909, in Frankville, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Daisy (Chewning) Kneeskern. He was raised in the Frankville area and worked on area farms and was a livestock buyer with his uncle until 1940. He was a livestock buyer and feed salesman in Luana, Iowa, from 1941 to 1942, and then was a Hormel buyer at Calmar, Iowa, Preston, and Des Moines for 31 years, retiring in 1971.
He married Elsie Schultz on May 23, 1929, in Decorah. The couple made their home in Preston and after retirement they wintered in Yuma. She died April 2, 1987. He then married Lillian Beck on Dec. 19, 1989, in Yuma.
He was a member of the Preston United Methodist Church, the Preston Country Club, and had served on the Preston City Council and Public Utilities Board.
He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, dancing, driving and was a baseball player and Twins fan.
He is survived by his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cloy and Laurice of Preston and Wayne and Gert of Richland, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Lyle Miller of Preston; 11 grandchildren, Gary Kneeskern, Preston, Sheri Kneeskern, River Falls, Wis., Dave Kneeskern, Greenfield, Iowa, Sandra Welch, Chicago, Beth and Mark Kneeskern, Des Moines, Barbara Scheevel, Preston, Kathryn Revord, Minneapolis, Jim Miller, Richfield, Minn., Scott Kneeskern, Woodbury, Minn., and Michelle Snyder, Richland, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and one sister.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Preston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Anthony Fink officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.
Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home, Preston, today (Thursday) 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour before the service.

Jerry Knowlton, 74, of Canton
Jerry Knowlton, 74, of Canton, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. He was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Prosper. He attended Prosper Schools, graduated from Canton High School and attended Drake University for a year. On Sept. 14, 1944, he married Nelda Larson. During World War II, he was a B-17 pilot in the Army Air Corps. After his discharge he returned to southeastern Minnesota and farmed on the family farm. From 1952 to 1977 he owned and operated the Sportsman's Bar in Canton. Mr. Knowlton was employed by Fusion Coating in Winona for many years and after his retirement in 1990 was in partnership with Ken Abraham in J & K Car Wash in Canton. He served on the Canton City Council, was a member of Senior Citizens of Canton, VFW Post of Mabel, American Legion of Canton and Sunrise Care Facility of Spring Grove and was the gambling commissioner for the Canton American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda of Canton; two daughters, Jerilyn (Jerome) Bangs of Canton, and Mary Jane "Janey" (Zach) Afseth of Harmony; a son, Jerry Nolan Knowlton and fiancée, Patricia Ivey, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren, Kevin Franzen, Karla Wangen, Kelly Bartness, Heidi Larson, Shawn Bangs, Brent Afseth, Ryan Afseth, Amy Knowlton, Laurie Knowlton, Shannon Bangs, Ryan Bangs, and Jeremy Knowlton; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria (Merlin) Wilford of Mabel; and a brother, Bruce (Diane) of St. Paul.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Canton Scotland Presbyterian Church in Canton. Military rites were conducted. Lindstrom Funeral Home, Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
Roger E. Knox, 72, formerly of Canton
Roger E. Knox, 72, of Newark, N.J., formerly of the Canton area, died Oct. 20, 1997, at his home.
Born Sept. 13, 1925, in Burr Oak, he graduated from Canton High School and from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. In 1952, he married Patricia Martin in New Orleans. She died in 1991. A research chemist in the polymer division of DuPont Co. for 38 years before his retirement in 1989, he held 16 world patents for his invention of foam and polyurethane products. Mr. Knox was a public speaker for DuPont, lecturing on synthetic elastic polymers at meetings in London, Singapore and Canada. He also wrote many technical publications on polyurethane products.
Survivors include three daughters; Joanne V. Knox, Julie K. Mitchell and Laurie K. Jobst, all of Newark, N.J.; two sons, Barry E. of Syracuse, N.Y., and Robert V. of Hudson, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; five brothers, Harold, Leo and Adrian, all of Burr Oak, John of LaCrosse, Wis., and Richard of Mabel and a sister; Marjorie Horihan of Lanesboro.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered on Saturday at Holy Rosary in Claymont, Del. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery.

Concordia Kohlmeyer, 85, once of Wykoff
Concordia Kohlmeyer, 85, formerly of Wykoff, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at the Guardian Ygnacio Hospital in Walnut Creek, Calif.
The former Concordia Stein was born March 18, 1912, in Larsen, N.D. She moved with her family to Wykoff as a young girl. She married Carl Kohlmeyer Sept. 13, 1935, in Wykoff, where the couple made their home and operated the Kohlmeyer Farm Store, a John Deere dealership, for 44 years. Mr. Kohlmeyer died in 1972. In 1994 she moved to Concord, Calif., to live with her son, Dennis.
She was a longtime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff, was active in the Fillmore County Association for Retarded Children, Wykoff Senior Citizens and the Wykoff Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by two daughters, Rose Marie Moyes of Brookline, Mass., and Sheila Kohlmeyer of Somerville, Mass.; two sons, Dennis and Phillip, both of Concord, eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Machula of Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Marlyss Wolf of Eagan, Minn.; and two brothers, Jay Stein of Columbus, Ohio and Larry Stein of Richfield, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and one brother.
The funeral was Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff with the Rev. Rodel J. Eberle officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sheila Annette Kohlmeyer, 52, Wykoff native
Sheila Annette Kohlmeyer, 52, died Nov. 17, 1997, at Mass General Hospital, Boston, of injuries sustained when hit by a car while crossing the street on the way to work.
Born in Wykoff on Jan. 28, 1945, she graduated from Wykoff High School in 1963. Sheila attended Mankato State University and the Travel School of America, Boston. She was employed as accounting manager for Cambridge Travel.
She is survived by a sister, Rose Marie Moyes of Brookline, Mass., brothers Dennis K. Kohlmeyer and Phillip Kohlmeyer, both of Concord, Calif., two sisters-in-law, Anne and Jenny, three nephews and five nieces.
She had been in Wykoff for funeral services for her mother, Concordia Stein Kohlmeyer, on Oct. 27. Her father, Carl H. Kohlmeyer died in 1972.
Memorial services were held Saturday at King's Chapel in Boston.
Esther J. Lande, 77, of Mabel
Esther J. Lande, age 77, of Mabel, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
She was born on May 6, 1920, in Fillmore County to Peder and Sophie (Svenson) Lande. She attended Mabel High School. She worked as a housekeeper for many years in the Rochester and Spring Valley areas. She returned to Mabel and for the last 20 years has been a resident at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two nieces; Carol (Mrs. Allen) Dybvik of Decorah and Chris (Mrs. Jerry) Nelson of Mabel; and three nephews, Lamont and Robert Rommes, both of LaCrosse, Wis, and Roger Rommes of Alexandria, Minn. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Olga and Bella Rommes; and a nephew, David Rommes.
Graveside services were Friday at the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery with the Rev. Lloyd Menke officiating.

Ernest J. Larson, 91, of Mabel
Ernest J. Larson, 91, of Mabel, a retired farm laborer, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel where he had resided since 1992.
Born April 30, 1906, in Black Hammer Township, he attended Storlie School in Preble Township. A farm laborer, he worked and lived mostly on the Perlind Olson farm in rural Spring Grove. He was a member of Scheie Lutheran Church.
There are no immediate survivors. A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were on Saturday at Scheie Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial was in North Scheie Cemetery.
