Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Bird Island. Burial will be at Palmyra Cemetery, rural Bird Island.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island and one hour prior to services at the church.

Valetina Schwenk
NEW HOPE - Valentina E. Schwenk, 95, of New Hope, formerly of Murdock, died Monday at St. Therese Care Center in New Hope.
Funeral services are tentatively set for 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Murdock.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.

Charles Alsaker
May 15, 1908 - July 12, 1997
BENSON - Charles Robert Alsaker, 89, of Benson, died Saturday at his home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church of Benson with the Rev. Roger Olness officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson.
He was born May 15, 1908, in Benson, to Richard and Alma (Magnuson) Alsaker. He attended school in Benson and at the University of Minnesota. He served in the Air Force during World War II as an aeronautical engineer and bomb designer. In 1936 he married Irene Carrier. They lived in Minnetonka for 45 years. He worked as a civil engineer, in farm machinery and later was president and CEO of Juran and Moody until retirement. He was a member of the Minneapolis Athletic Club.
He is survived by his son Joel of St. Cloud, one grandson, brother Richard (and Jean) Alsaker of Benson, and sister Dorothy (and Vince) Kachler of Southern Pines, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.

Antonio Diaz
Oct. 1, 1951 - July 15, 1997
WILLMAR - Antonio G. Diaz, 45, of Willmar, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Centro de Comunidad Cristiana Church, with the Rev. David Echavarria officiating. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 1, 1951, in Hempton, Iowa, to Isabelle (Garcia) and Domingo Diaz. He lived in Crystal City, Texas, Milwaukee, and Willmar since 1995.
He is survived by his son Antonio J. Diaz of Willmar; daughters Elishia and Shezaree Diaz of Denver, grandson Lorenzo Diaz; brothers Ventura and Domingo Diaz of St. Cloud, Ascencion Moreno of Montrose, Armando Martinez of Willmar; sisters Dominga Garcia of Willmar, Paulita Rodriguez of Crystal City, Virginia M. Perez of San Marcos, Texas, and Maria Diaz of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ronald Wagner
Oct. 29, 1934 - July 7, 1997
SPICER - Ronald R. ``Ronnie'' Wagner, 62, of Spicer, formerly of Willmar, died unexpectedly July 7 of an apparent heart attack in Anchorage, Alaska.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Vinje Lutheran Church with the Rev. Fred Mueller officiating.
There will be no visitation or reviewal. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Raymond, to Gladys (Rhuby) and Frank Wagner. He graduated from Raymond High School. He served in the U.S. Army. On Oct. 7, 1956, he married Phyllis Ballard. He was a self-employed electrician until retiring in January 1997. He was a former pee-wee hockey coach.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Terry (and Ivan) Abrahms of Bisbee, Ariz., Shari (and Kornell) Erickson of Willmar, Stacy Wagner of Hopkins; sons Gary Wagner of Tucson, Ariz., Robert Wagner of Elk River; three grandchildren; brothers Gene (and Betty) Wagner of McKinnleyville, Calif., James (and Mary) Wagner of St. Cloud, Bill (and Sheryl) Wagner of Richfield; and sisters Joyce (and Lloyd) Hanson of Willmar, Lavonne (and Richard) Jones of Buffalo and Sharon Wagner of Buffalo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arnold S. Hanson
BENSON - Arnold S. Hanson, 71, of Benson, died Tuesday morning at the Meadow Lane Healthcare Center in Benson.
Funeral services are tentatively set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.

Clifford L. Olson
ATWATER - Clifford L. Olson, 86, of Atwater, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, with burial in East Lake Lillian Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Hughes Funeral Home in Cosmos, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Deloris Amundson
LOWRY - Deloris Jane Amundson, 58, of Lowry, died Sunday at Minnewaska Hospital in Starbuck.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fron Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Norunga Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at Starbuck Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband Douglas; sons Philip (and Tami) Amundson of St. Cloud, Paul (and Amy) Amundson of Alexandria; daughter Pat (and Rick) Egdorf of Chaska; nine grandchildren; her mother Mildred Stadsvold of Starbuck; siblings Maynard (and Lois) Stadsvold of Starbuck and Irene (and Jerome) Hagen of Cyrus.

Martha Gieseke
MINNEAPOLIS - Martha Ann H. Gieseke, 69, of Minneapolis, died June 29 at her home after battling cancer.
Funeral services were held at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Burial was in Fort Snelling Cemetery.
She was the daughter of Louie and Christina Beckmann and grew up on a farm east of Clara City.
She is survived by her husband Floyd; son Brian; daughter Judy; two grandchildren, sisters and brothers Margaret Zimmer of Pennock, Harold Beckmann of Raymond, Clarence Beckmann of St. Cloud, Lloyd Beckmann of Clara City, Marcella DeGeest of Bloomington, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Violet Hochstein
April 19, 1913 - July 12, 1997
MONTEVIDEO - Violet B. Hochstein, 84, of Montevideo, died unexpectedly Saturday at her home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with the Rev. Leo Deitemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born April 19, 1913, in West Heron Lake Township, to Gerhard and Minnie (Winzer) Kuhnau. On Jan. 5, 1933 she married John Hochstein. They farmed in the Heron Lake area and Montevideo until retiring in 1981. She was known in the area as the flower lady. John died in 1988.
She is survived by sons Galen of Lester Prairie, John of Wayzata; daughters Marlene (and Owen) Lund of Bird Island, Sandra (and Jim) Draeger of Montevideo, Karol (and Roger) Sorum of Clarkfield; brothers Verne ``Pete'' Kuhnau of Livingston, Mont., Warren Kuhnau of Clarissa; sisters Lena Garoutte of Long Prairie, Lorraine Van Volkenburg of Long Prairie; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and one sister.

Agnes Westphal
OLIVIA - Agnes Westphal, 85, of Olivia died Friday morning at Olivia Healthcare Center. Funeral arrangements are pending with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home of Olivia.

Maxine Langan
Nov. 26, 1926 - June 30, 1997
GAINESVILLE, FLA. - Maxine M. Erickson Langan, 70, of Gainesville, Fla., died June 30 after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Willmar, to Carl and Hazel Erickson. She attended Willmar High School. She attended various universities, studying nursing, geology and computers and retired from Control Data Corp. of Minneapolis and Chicago.
She is survived by sons Christopher Skoglund of Key West, Fla., and Patrick Langan of Chicago; sister Marvis Martin of Brownwood, Texas; one sister-in-law, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Marvin Skoglund, second husband Donald J. Langan and two brothers.

Ingeval Brovold
GRANITE FALLS - Ingeval Brovold, 76, of Granite Falls, died Friday at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls.

Stanley Hydeen
LITCHFIELD - Stanley E. Hydeen, 82, of Litchfield, died Thursday at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Daniel Buendorf officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his son Thomas (and Carla) Hydeen of Orange City, Iowa, daughter Lee Ann Hydeen of Wheaton, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen.

Agnes Johnson
June 7, 1907 - July 10, 1997
MORGAN - Agnes Johnson, 90, of Morgan died Thursday at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Morgan. Burial will be in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Morgan and for one hour before the services at the church on Monday.
She was born June 7, 1907, in Eden Valley Township, Meeker County, to Noah and Katherine (Dingman) Mills. She grew up and attended schools in Eden Valley Township. She worked for a time in Sauk Centre. On Feb. 23, 1931, she married Paul Johnson in Redwood Falls. They farmed south of Morgan until moving to Morgan in 1969. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Survivors include son Donald (and Betty) of Morgan; daughter Mary (and Ed) Domeier of Redwood Falls; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother Harlem (and Amelia) Mills of Motley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Mary Hanson
Aug. 30, 1906 - July 10, 1997
BENSON - Mary Rose Hanson, 90, of Benson died Thursday morning at the Meadow Lane Health Care Center in Benson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, with the Rev. Steven Verhelst officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Aug. 30, 1906, in rural DeGraff, to Daniel and Anne (Walsh) Madden. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She married Selmar C. ``Sandy'' Hanson in Minneapolis on March 4, 1930. They lived in Oakland, Calif., from 1941 to 1946. They returned to Benson and opened Sandy's Cafe, which they operated until 1976.
Survivors include daughter Mary Anne (and Bob) Lindahl of Benson; sons DuWayne (and Molly) Hanson of Plymouth and James (and Jan) Hanson of Hastings; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister Vera (and Eiler) Petersen of Benson.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, three brothers and three sisters.

Phyllis Peterson
May 12, 1919 - July 10, 1997
KERKHOVEN - Phyllis Pauline Peterson, 68, of Kerkhoven died Thursday at her home following an illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community Bible Church in Montevideo with the Rev. Tom Flaherty officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home's 19th Avenue chapel and one hour before services at the church on Monday.
She was born May 12, 1929, in Buffalo to Harold and Effie (Anderson) Snare. She graduated from Kerkhoven High School as valedictorian in 1947. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Gambles Store in Kerkhoven before attending St. Cloud Teacher's College. She taught school at Storden and Marshall. On March 22, 1958, she married Donald E. Peterson in Kerkhoven. They lived in rural Kerkhoven.
Survivors include her husband, Donald; sons David (and Laurie), Rick (and Patricia) and Jonathan (and Jeanna), all of Kerkhoven; six grandchildren; sister Irene Timmer of Kerkhoven; and many foster children, nieces and nephews.

Lloyd Nelson
BOYD - Lloyd Nelson, 78, of Boyd died Thursday at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd with the Rev. Glenda Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Hanson
April 18, 1906 - July 9, 1997
ORTONVILLE - Bertha ``Birdie'' Hanson, 90, of Ortonville, formerly of Appleton, died Wednesday at the Ortonville Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First English Lutheran Church of Ortonville with the Rev. Wilfred Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery of Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
She was born April 18, 1906, in Sauk Rapids to Carl W. and Frieda (Gabado) Uymowski. She was a graduate of Martin Luther Academy. On June 16, 1926, she married Dr. Vernon M. Hanson in St. Paul.
Survivors include son Dr. Jerome (and Deanna) Hanson of Granite Falls; daughters Jacqueline Wildgen of Kalispell, Mont., and Yvonne Egdahl of Brookline, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 13 brothers and sisters.

James L. Williams
Feb. 19, 1932 - July 10, 1997
HUTCHINSON - James Louis Williams, 65, of Hutchinson, formerly of Willmar and Litchfield, died Thursday at his home in Hutchinson.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. today at the Hutchinson National Guard Armory.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the armory.
He was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Grand Meadow to Donald K. and Ethel V. (Bausman) Williams. Due to his father's ministering with the Jevovah's Witnesses, he attended 12 different schools in southern Minnesota prior to graduating from high school. On Oct. 27, 1955, he married Maisel L. (Mickie) Kittelson in Minneapolis. They lived in several different cities due to his own ministering. In 1958 they moved to Park Rapids and lived there until moving to Litchfield in 1965. In 1971 they moved to Rochester, in 1978 they moved to Willmar and later Hutchinson. While ministering, he also worked as a salesman serving the Litchfield, Willmar and Hutchinson areas. After his retirement he became the caretaker of the Evergreen Apartments in Hutchinson.
He is survived by his wife; sons Marc (and Keri) Williams of Hutchinson, D. Grant (and Christy) Williams of Mankato, and Chad (and Christy) Williams of International Falls; daughter Lori (and Andy) Lundholm of Silver Lake; three grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
