Evelyn Mittag

CLARA CITY - Evelyn Pauline Mittag, 89, of Clara City, died Wednesday at Clara City Community Care Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at the care center with the Rev. Brad Barr officiating. Burial will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens, rural Montevideo.
Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. today until time of services at the care center.
Funeral arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Clara City.
She was born June 27, 1908, in Latimer, Iowa, to Chris and Mathilda (Timm) Thompson. She attended Latimer Public Schools and Iowa State Teachers College in Sheldon, Iowa. On June 23, 1931, she married Edwin F. Mittag at Latimer. She was a teacher, member of Busy Hoe Garden Club and Goldenrod Homemakers. Edwin died in 1983.
She is survived by her son Robert (and Janyce) Mittag of Clara City, daughter Marjorie (and John) Waldron of Omaha, Neb., nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and sisters Ruth Johnson of Popejoy, Iowa, and Betty Larson of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Clarence Welle
May 1, 1920 - Jan. 29, 1998
PAYNESVILLE - Clarence C. Welle, 77, of Paynesville, died Thursday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Richard Leisen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home of Paynesville.
He was born May 1, 1920, in Spring Hill, to Anthony and Appolonia (Schoenberg) Welle. On Aug. 23, 1943, he married Josephine Hinnenkamp in Melrose. They moved to Paynesville in 1947.
He is survived by his wife; children Pat (and Bill) Hamlet of Monticello, Jim (and Mary) Welle of Bloomington, Dennis (and Debbie) Welle of Chaska; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Alvin Welle of Paynesville, Edwin Welle of Richmond, Tony Welle of Spring Hill; and sister Loretta Rieland of Melrose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.
Ellen Glimsdal

APPLETON - Ellen Christina Glimsdal, 88, of Appleton, died Friday at Appleton Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton with the Rev. Alan Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vaala Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born April 4, 1909, in Hegbert Township, Swift County, to Peter and Christine (Anderson) Freeman. She was a 1927 graduate of Appleton High School. On Oct. 3, 1934, she married John Glimsdal. They farmed until moving into Appleton in 1964. She was employed as a home health aide with the Green Thumb program and RSVP program.
She is survived by her sons Donald (and Janice) Glimsdal of St. Peter, Stanley (and JoAnne) Glimsdal of Appleton, Kenneth (and Judy) Glimsdal of Appleton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and five brothers.
Clint Bonnema

ST. PETER - Clint E. Bonnema, 64, of St. Peter, died Friday at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Memorial services will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter with the Rev. Charles Degner officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral arrangements are with St. Peter Funeral Service.
He was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Holland Township, Kandiyohi County, to Cornelaius, and Bernice (Wieberdink) Bonnema. He attended District 102 School. On May 2, 1975, he married Elaine Thompson Evenson in Watertown, S.D. He was employed by St. Peter Texaco Service Station, Komatz Construction and St. Peter High School in the custodial department.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Sheri Nordby of Brooklyn Park, Marie (and John) Sprengeler of Janesville, Tammy (and Dan) Hanson of Willmar, Sue Poncin of New Prague, Lane Gerdes of Minneapolis, Nancy Jacobsen of Jordan, Mary Evenson of Mankato; sons Rick Bonnema of Cheyenne, Wy., David (and Diane) Bonnema of Lakeville; father Cornealius and wife Geneva Bonnema of Prinsburg; sisters Delores Slagter of Willmar, Marilyn (and Forrest) Slagter of Prinsburg, LaVerna (and Clinton) Marcus of Prinsburg; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother-in-law.
Emilie Birhanzel Donner

CLARA CITY - Emelia "Emilie" Margaret Birhanzel Donner, 84, of Clara City, died Thursday at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City with Rev. Brad Barr and the Rev. Mark Jamison officiating. Burial will be in the St. Clara Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Clara City and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born March 18, 1913, in Chippewa County to James and Marie (Jacubek) Birhanzel. She attended country school in Chippewa County. She married Francis "Bud" Donner on Aug. 14, 1969. They owned and operated Donner's Store in Gluek for many years. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Clara City and was a member of the Clara City American Legion Auxiliary and the Clara City Nursing Home Auxiliary.
She is survived by nephews, Richard Birhanzel of Watson, and Lowell Birhanzel of Montevideo; nieces, Roma Maloy of Coon Rapids and Alice Holte of Willmar and one sister-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, three brothers and two sisters.
Patrick Sullivan
March 12, 1985 - Jan. 22, 1997
REDMOND, Wash. _ Patrick Michael Sullivan, 11, of Redmond, Wash., died Jan. 22 at his home after a six-month battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in DeGraff, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Steven Verhelst will officiate.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born March 12, 1985, in Benson to Terry and Jennifer (Flannigan) Sullivan. When he was 11 months old he moved with his parents to Redmond. He went to preschool at Little Folks Christian School in Redmond, and attended Horace Mann Elementary School since kindergarten. He liked his new puppy, Champ, and playing his saxophone and collecting sports cards.
He is survived by his parents; brother Nathan of Redmond; grandparents Rosemary Flannigan of Benson, Arthur Flannigan of New Brighton, and Doris Sullivan of DeGraff.
He was preceded in death by one grandfather in 1995.
Larry Smid

NEW LONDON _ Larry Gene Smid, 58, of rural New London, died Monday at the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Hope United Presbyterian Church in Spicer, with the Rev. Jeffery DeYoe officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in New London, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Jan. 30, 1938, in George, Iowa, to Abbo and Minnie (VanBriesen) Smid. In 1956 he graduated from George High School, then served for two years in the U.S. Army as a medic in the 82nd Airborne. On Oct. 1, 1963, he married Diana Kruger in Sioux Falls, S.D., and they lived in George, Iowa, for five years, where he was the internal auditor for Standard Oil. In 1969, they moved to Dawson where he was an accountant for E.K. Williams. In 1977, they moved to New London, where he had his own practice since.
He is survived by his wife; mother of Rock Rapids, Iowa; daughters Darla (and Brad) Amundson of Houston, Texas, and Laura (and Michael) Burns of Rochester; sons Dallas (and Carol) of Raymond, Jon Smid of Minneapolis; three grandchildren; brother Walter (and Mae) Smid of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and his mother-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
Arnold Gaulke

APPLETON _ Arnold Gaulke, 71, of Appleton, died Monday at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, with the Rev. George Sagissor officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Swift County to Robert and Helena (Gallow) Gaulke. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. On July 19, 1945, he married Nadine Johannsen. He worked most of his life as an independent carpenter, retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his wife; children Robert Gaulke (and special friend Yvonne Tepley) of Newport, James (and Karen) Gaulke of Yankton, S.D., Becky (and Dennis) Carl, and Debra Carl, all of Appleton, Larry (and Kim) Gaulke of Racine, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters Alma Bartz, Lydia Schroeder, Esther Bartz and Bertha Schroeder, all of Appleton, Clara Shepherd of Waterloo, Iowa, Lilly Wrobleski of Benson, Evelyn (and Harry) Schlieman and Renetta Lindstrom, both of Appleton; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, and three brothers.
Paul Dorweiler

LAC QUI PARLE _ Paul G. Dorweiler, 33, of Lac qui Parle, died Sunday at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.m as a result of an accident Jan. 23. in Dawson.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Baxter Township, with the Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
He was born Feb. 12, 1963, in St. Paul to Paul and Roxann (Gleason) Dorweiler. He graduated from Chokio High School in 1981. He attended vo-tech school in Red Wing, studying solar wind power. He worked with wind turbines in California for eight years. In 1991 he moved to Minnesota and began working as a goose guide for the Lac Qui Parle Hunting Camp. On June 2, 1993, he married Lynn Lokken at her family farm. They were living on a farm near Lac Qui Parle and he was working on construction as well as continuing as a goose guide.
He is survived by his wife; parents of Woodbury; grandmothers Ann Dorweiler of Chokio, Mary Gleason of Woodbury; sisters Sarah (and Reginald) Coleman of St. Paul, Betsy (and Dan) Holan of St. Cloud and Margaret Dorweiler of St. Paul; brothers Matthew (and Cindi) Dorweiler of St. Cloud and Lauren (and Risa) Dorweiler of Golden Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.
Lorraine Andert

WILLMAR _ Lorraine Andert, 53, of Willmar, died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar, with the Rev. Steve Bielenberg officiating. Burial will be in Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home's 19th Avenue Chapel in Willmar, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born July 13, 1943, in Benson to Joseph and Lily (Gaulke) Wrobleski. On Sept. 19, 1961, she married Kenneth Andert in Holloway. They lived in Morris, Appleton, Benson, and Faribault before moving to the Willmar and Kerkhoven areas in 1975. She worked as a surgical aide at Rice Memorial Hospital for 12 years, retiring in 1994.
She is survived by her husband; children Scott Andert (and fiancee Jennifer Rieland) of Richmond, Jeffrey Andert of Roseland, Jason Andert of Willmar; two grandchildren; her mother, of Benson; brothers and sisters Dennis (and Bonnie) Wrobleski of Willmar, Ronald (and Linda) Wrobleski of Crystal, Barbara (and Boyd) Tomlinson of Kerkhoven, Kathryn (and David) Thomas of Monticello, and Alan (And Lori) Wrobleski of Benson.
She was preceded in death by her father, and son Travis Andert.
Roy Peterson

FONTANA, Calif. _ Roy M. Peterson, 83, of Fontana, Calif., and formerly of Glenwood, died Jan. 17 at San Bernardino Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten, with the Rev. Rebecca Sogge officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hoplin Funeral Chapel in Glenwood, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Gilchrist Township, Pope County, to Edwin and Bertha (Basol) Peterson. After various jobs in Minnesota and Wisconsin, he moved to Stockton, Calif., in 1940. He worked for Western Pacific Railroad until retiring. For the past four years he lived with his brother in Fontana.
He is survived by his brother Wayne (and Flo) Peterson of Fontana; sisters Ruth Flolo of Brooklyn Park, Bernice (and Charles) Roepke of Circle Pines, Velora (and Allan) Westerlund of Bloomington, Norma (and Gordon) Hollen of Glenwood, Hazel Commerford, who died Jan. 24; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Another sister, Hazel Commerford, died after his own death.
G. Wesley Halverson
Nov. 18, 1916 - Jan. 18, 1997
HINCKLEY _ G. Wesley Halverson, 80, of Hinckley and formerly of Willmar, died Jan. 18 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale following a short illness.
Burial was Jan. 22 in Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis.
He was born Nov. 18, 1916, near Cosmos to George and Lillian Halverson. He became a baker's apprentice in Litchfield and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1939 he married Irene Ledin in Monticello. They moved to Hinckley in 1940, and opened their own bakery. In 1944, he was drafted into the Navy and served as a baker overseas in the Pacific theater. In 1945, he was discharged and reopened the bakery in Hinckley. Irene died in 1966. He retired from the bakery in Hinckley in 1977, and moved to Willmar and worked as a Volunteer Senior Companion at the Willmar State Hospital for 15 years. He later moved back to Hinckley, then Osseo shortly before his death.
He is survived by his children Wesley (and Karen Farley) Halverson of Juneau, Alaska, Jean (and Dennis) Walton of Bedford, Texas, Karen Halverson of Coon Rapids and Cynthia (and Don) Feyma of Cedar, Minn.; sisters Elenor (and Wilton) Bomsta of Lake Lillian and Delores (and Erle) Draxton of Glenwood; brothers Vernon (and Doris) Halverson of Modesto, Calif. and Gerald (and Luella) Halverson of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother.
Hazel Iverson

NEW LONDON _ Hazel L. Iverson, 83, of New London, died Sunday at Glen Oaks Nursing Home in New London.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London, with the Rev. Jack Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery in Hawick.
There will be no visitation.
She was born Dec. 24, 1913, in New London to William and Jessie (Barber) King. She grew up on the family farm near Regal. She worked at various cafes in Willmar and Paynesville, and at Nelson's Laundry in Willmar. For the past 14 years, she had been a resident at Glen Oaks.
She is survived by her sons John of Litchfield, Oliver (and Nancy) of Maple Grove, and Harry (and Janice) of Essex Junction, Vt.; daughters Arlene Jensen, Bette (and Warren) Ramm, all of Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ada Ardoff of New London, Rhoda Beecroft of Willmar and Maud (and Don) Nelson of Battle Creek, Mich.; brother Albert (and Irene) King of Westport, Mass.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, one infant sister and two grandchildren.
Orlando Haugland
March 20, 1926 - Jan. 23, 1997
GLENWOOD _ Orlando Oswald Haugland, 70, of Glenwood, died Jan. 23 after suffering a heart attack.
There will be a memorial service in June. Arrangements are with Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood.
He was born March 20, 1926, in Bricelyn to Gerhard and Gertie Haugland. After he graduated from high school in Bricelyn, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he attended Hamline University, graduating in 1950 with a BA degree in fine arts. The next year he began to pursue a master's degree in art at the University of Minnesota. For many years he worked as an art therapist at Willmar State Mental Hospital, and organized several showings of the patients' works at the Walker Art Center. He then returned to St. Cloud State College to get the credits to teach high school. He first taught at Le Seuer High School, then taught in Germany and Japan. When he returned to the United States he taught one year in Litchfield, and taught art in Glenwood from 1967 until he retired in 1988.
Memorials are preferred to the Bickle House Foundation for the Development of the Bremness Art Gallery.
He is survived by a sister, Kathryn Sterling, of Kalispell, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Hermina Gray

GREENSBURG, Ind. _ Hermina D. Gray, 90, of Greensburg, Ind., and formerly of Willmar, died Sunday at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Browning and the Rev. David Menefee officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1906, near Prinsburg to Elizabeth (Nagel) and Benjamin Wubbels. On Sept. 20, 1933, she married Howard Gray. She lived in Willmar until 1988, when she moved to Greensburg, Ind.
She is survived by her daughters Doris J. (and the Rev. Robert) Browning of Greensburg, Elizabeth (and Ronald) Kyker of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Ruth (and George) Bancroft of Escondido, Calif., Phyllis (and Jerry) Allen of Marysville, Wash., Frances Marion (and Delton) Beagle of Greensburg, and Marcella (and Robert) Weisel of Orlando, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother William Wubbles and sister Martha Van Lingen, both of Willmar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1988 and five sisters.
