GLENWOOD - Dietrich W. Carsten, 65, of Glenwood, died Thursday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arthur Montgomery officiating.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoplin Funeral Chapel in Glenwood.
He was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Grove Lake Township, Pope County, to Theodore and Bernice (Jurgens) Carsten. He was a 1952 graduate of Glenwood High School. He was employed by Kimball Creamery, Paynesville Creamery, and part time for the Pope County Highway Department in 1955.
He served in the military 1957 to 1960. He then attended St. Cloud State University, studying civil engineering while continuing to work part time for the Highway Department. He became a full-time employee of the Pope County Highway Department in 1963.
In August 1963 he married Marion Razink.
He is survived by his wife in Glenwood; children Craig (and Kathy) of Oak Harbor, Wash., Keith of Grand Rapids, Renae (and Dan) Riley of Vining and Todd of Fargo, N.D.; four grandchildren; mother Bernice Carsten; brothers Ronald (and June) of Villard and Thomas (and Marcy) of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and sister Mildred (and Joseph) DesRocher of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his father.

John 'Jack' Ryan
Jan. 21, 1926 - Feb. 12, 2000
BIRD ISLAND - John E. "Jack" Ryan, 74, of Bird Island, died Saturday at the Olivia Healthcare Center.
His funeral will be at 1:15 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island with the Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military honors by Bird Island American Legion.
Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island. Memorials to Renville County Hospice are preferred..
He was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Franklin, to Clarence and Josephine (Shore) Ryan. He attended St. Mary's School in Bird Island. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years, including in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
On April 5, 1948, he married Mary Lou Schablin in Bird Island, where they lived. He was employed by Sheehan's LP Service, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Bird Island American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; sons Mike (and Bev) of Lake Lillian, Jim (and Joan) of Alexandria, Bob of Litchfield, Chuck (and Charlene) of Omaha, Neb., and Dennis (and Jaime) of Enid, Okla.; daughters Dorothy Ryan of Hutchinson, Pauline (and Ron) Manderschied of Northbrooke, Ill., and Patsy (and Glenn) Youngkrantz of Lake Lillian; brother Pat (and Sharon) of Olivia; sisters Bette (and Howard) Losli of Oregon, Marion (and Louis) Spies of Maplewood and Jean (and Gary) Ascher of Plymouth; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Waneda 'Willie' Anderson
Dec. 16, 1940 - Feb. 11, 2000
FARGO, N.D. - Waneda "Willie" Anderson, 59, of Fargo, N.D., died Friday at Elim Home in Fargo.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Chapel (701-232-3222) in Fargo. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Starbuck.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 16, 1940, in Glenwood, to Howard and Helen (Tonn) Wilson. She was a graduate of St. Mary's of the Mount High School in Helena, Mont.
On Nov. 28, 1959, she married Marlyn Anderson in Fargo, where they lived. She was disabled with MS much of her adult life.
She is survived by her husband; daughter Kimberly (and John) Tilton of Poulsbo, Wash.; son Kevin (and Joann) Anderson of Port Angeles, Wash.; mother Helen Wilson of Starbuck; sisters Loretta (and Tom) Hodges of Missoula, Mont., Marlis (and Richard) Tvedt of Lakeville; brother Warren (and Sharon) Wilson of Storm Lake, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

LuVern C. Anderson
April 26, 1934 - Feb. 6, 2000
RICHFIELD - LuVern C. Anderson, 65, of Richfield, died Feb. 6 at his home in Richfield.
His memorial service was held Feb. 8 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis with the Rev. Ronald K. Johnson officiating. Private burial was Feb. 9 at Opdal Cemetery in Sacred Heart with the Rev. John Hopper officiating.
He was born April 26, 1934, to Arlie and Olga (Tufto) Anderson. He was a 1952 graduate of Renville High School. In June 1955, he married Audrey Grussing of Clara City. He was employed by Sears 36 years.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Wendy Anderson of Minneapolis, Penny (and Mike) Farmer of Eagan; one grandson; sisters Audrey (and Bud) Forkrud of Sacred Heart, Gloria (and Roger) Peterson of Renville; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Andy Nelson
Nov. 16, 1916 - Feb. 13, 2000
APPLETON - Andrew John Nelson, 83, of Appleton, died Sunday at Appleton Municipal Hospital.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Appleton with the Rev. Jon Marburger, the Rev. Herb Rotunda and the Rev. Paul Firecloud officiating. Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Moyer Township, Swift County, to William and Marie (Kohler) Nelson. He attended Holloway schools and during the 1940s was employed with the CCC program in northern Minnesota.
On Feb. 23, 1961, he married Alpha Gloria Lufkins. He farmed east of Appleton, retiring in 1980.
He was chairman of the Rod and Gun Club, Ridgerunner's Snowmobile Club, was a special deputy for Swift County for 15 years, and was a police officer in Holloway.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Hazel (and Wayne) Borreson of Mora, Karla Schmidt of Milan; foster children Gila Wlazlak of Appleton, Kodah DuMarce of Appleton, Butch DuMarce of Appleton; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; son-in-law Richard Tofte of Appleton; brothers Bill (and Ruth) Nelson of Holloway, Norman (and Joyce) Nelson of Appleton; sisters Emma (and Amos) Radcliffe of San Diego, Calif., Alice Clark of San Diego, Calif., Alta Mae (and Don) Peterson of Milan, Minnie (and John) Bryan of Peoria, Ill.; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kathryn Ann Tofte, two brothers and two infant siblings.

Ruth M. Krause
Oct. 13, 1921 - Feb. 13, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Ruth Margaret Krause, 78, of Litchfield, died Sunday at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Daniel Buendorf officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Carlos, to Ernest H. and Mamie (Hallgren) Ahlers. She was born with cerebral palsy, spending many of her early years at Shriner's Children Hospital and Gillette Children's Hospital, both in Minneapolis.
She was a 1940 graduate of Michael Dowling School for Handicapped Children. She was employed as a telephone switchboard operator in Carlos.
In 1942, she married Andrew Bratts in Carlos. He preceded her in death. She later moved to Alexandria and married Gust Krause. In 1997, she moved to Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
She is survived by her daughter Darlene (and LeRoy) Schmitz of Litchfield; son Ralph (and Lola) Bratts of Raymond; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Irene (and Leslie) Ottman of Sartell; brother Ernest (and Virginia) Ahlers of Sartell; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and one great-grandson.

Mary P. Ronnenberg
March 21, 1927 - Feb. 14, 2000
GRANITE FALLS - Mary Patricia Ronnenberg, 72, of Granite Falls, died Monday at Granite Falls Manor.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls with the Rev. Bill Sprigler officiating. Spring burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. Reviewal will take place at the funeral home only, not at the church.
She was born March 21, 1927, in Granite Falls, to Edward and Francis (Tobkin) Collins. She was a graduate of Renville High School and attended St. Catherine's School of Nursing in Omaha, Neb.
She was employed as a registered nurse for many years.
She was involved in church activities and Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her daughters Angela Knoblockh of Sartell, Valerie (and Dale) Mauss of New Albin, Iowa, Patricia (and Doug) Schulte of Hazel Run, Irene (and Tom) Sonsalla of Stoughton, Wis., Christine (and Joe) Gorghuber of St. Cloud; sons Mark Ronnenberg of California, Andrew Ronnenberg of Winona, Alex Ronnenberg of Winona; sister Josephine Collins of Granite Falls; brother Thomas E. (and Marge) Collins of Anoka; 10 grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Niles Everett Ronnenberg.

Evelyn M. Anderson
Feb. 8, 1913 - Feb. 14, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Evelyn M. Anderson, 87, of Litchfield, died Monday at Cosmos Health Care Center in Cosmos.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of St. Philip in Litchfield with the Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 6:30 p.m. VFW Auxiliary service and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
She was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Litchfield, to William and Elizabeth (Weber) Miller. She attended Litchfield school through the 11th grade. She was employed as a weaver by Litchfield Woolen Mills for 45 years, retiring in 1975.
On Jan. 23, 1954, she married Raymond T. Anderson in Litchfield, where they lived.
She is survived by her daughter Carol (and Doug) Matteson of Watkins; two grandsons; stepdaughters Mary Crenshaw of Minneapolis, Jane Mealy of St. Paul, Betty (and Jim) Brown of Bellevue, Wash.; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband April 25, 1988, her parents, one granddaughter, one sister, four brothers and stepson Theodore Anderson.

Alvin O. Jallo
May 21, 1913 - Feb. 14, 2000
APPLETON - Alvin Orris Jallo, 86, of Appleton, died Monday at the Appleton Municipal Hospital.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in rural Appleton with the Rev. Mark Swanson officiating. Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born May 21, 1913, in Synnes Township, Stevens County, to Rudolph B. and Anna (Eystad) Jallo. He attended Drywood Country School, District 30, in Swift County. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal with the 363rd Fighter Squadron in England, Germany, Austria, Belgium and Scotland.
He farmed from 1946 to 1970, when he moved into Appleton. He was employed by the fertilizer mill and by P.C. Peterson in construction until retiring.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and VFW Post 4955 of Appleton.
He is survived by his sister--in-law Bly Jallo of Chokio; nephews Richard (and Rita) Buntje of Battle Lake, Ronald (and Sharon) Buntje of Appleton, the Rev. Robert Sannes of Princeton, Donald Sannes of Minneapolis, James Sannes of Minneapolis, Thomas (and Jackie) Sannes of Texarkana, Texas, David (and Barbara) Sannes of St. Paul, Ole (and Connie) Jallo of Alexandria, Joel (and Jan) Jallo of Mobridge, S.D.; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Edith L. Jorgenson
March 14, 1928 - Feb. 14, 2000
LONG PRAIRIE - Edith L. Jorgenson, 71, of Long Prairie, died Monday at Valley View Estates in Long Prairie.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion United Church of Christ in Long Prairie with the Rev. Orville Sauter officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Zion Evangelical Cemetery in Round Prairie Township, Todd County.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with 7:30 p.m. prayers, and from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Stephan-Stein Funeral Home in Long Prairie.
She was born March 14, 1928, in Hanley Falls, to Samuel and Johanna (Simonson) Gullickson. She lived in Montevideo.
She married Glenn O. Jorgenson in Clarkfield, where they farmed. She moved to Long Prairie in 1991, living at Lake Charlotte.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and was a Long Prairie Hospice volunteer.
She is survived by her children Holly (and Jim) Young of Wadena, Hope Carey of Prescott, Ariz., Heather Jorgenson of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister Virginia Flejzer of Hanley Falls; daughter-in-law Lois Boerboom of Walnut Grove; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 28, 1985, son Charles G., five brothers, two sisters and her parents.

Marjorie E. Peterson
April 6, 1920 - Feb. 14, 2000
WILLMAR - Marjorie Eloise Peterson, 79, of Willmar, died Monday at Bethesda Pleasantview.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar with the Rev. Sandy Hanawalt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born April 6, 1920, in Willmar, to Reuben and Dorothy (Wenzel) Peterson. She was a 1938 graduate of Willmar High School. She was employed as a sales clerk by Montgomery Ward of Willmar.
On Sept. 28, 1941, she married Francois Peterson in Willmar, where they lived. During World War II they lived in Manitowoc, Wis., Camarillo, Calif., and Corpus Christi, Texas, returning to Willmar in 1946.
She was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar, and active in churchwomen, prayer chain and quilters. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and a homemakers club.
She is survived by her husband; sons Brian Peterson of Galveston, Texas, Mark Peterson of Minneapolis; siblings Marion Hexum of Rochester, Betty (and Ernest) Petersen of Duluth, the Rev. David (and Verna) Peterson of Homer, La.; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Michael.

Floyd Johnson
Nov. 10, 1917 - Feb. 15, 2000
BENSON - Floyd Sander Martin Johnson, 82, of Benson, died Tuesday at the Meadow Lane Healthcare Center in Benson.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson with the Rev. Keith Born officiating. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Van Hook, N.D., to Leander and Isabelle (Simonson) Johnson. His family moved to the Swift Falls area in 1930.
On July 11, 1941, he married Bertina Alvian Simonson. They lived in the Swift Falls area, where they farmed until 1978. He also worked for the ASC office for 17 years and worked at Swift County Homes.
He was a past president of Camp Lake Telephone Company, a member of the board of directors for the Swift Creamery, a school board member for District 13, a member of the Farmers Union and on the ASC Committee.
He is survived by his wife; sons Lowell (and Audrey) Johnson of Minneapolis, Roger (and Susie) Johnson of New Hope, Harold (and Barb) Johnson of Savage and Ray (and Kelly) Johnson of Minneapolis; daughters Irene (and Robert) Shervey of Barrett and Brenda (and Dennis) Horgan of Weymouth, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers Verner (and Ann) Johnson of Isle, Arvid (and Ellie) Johnson of Minneapolis, Leonard (and Ursala) Johnson of San Diego, Calif., Irvin (and Ellen) Johnson of Isle and Ernest (and Barb) Johnson of Delano; and sisters Lenora Strand of Alexandria and Ione (and Harlan) Lund of New Brighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Harvey V. Martinek
Jan. 20, 1924 - Feb. 14, 2000
GLENWOOD - Harvey V. Martinek, 76, of Glenwood, died Monday evening at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church with the Rev. Kenneth Riedemann officiating.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
He was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Effington, S.D., to Paul and Mayme (Benesh) Martinek. He attended School District 72 in Reno Township.
On June 10, 1946, he married Irene Jane Simek in Alexandria. They purchased the home farm in Reno Township in 1947, where they farmed until 1990, when they rented out the farm. They continued to live on the farm.
He was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Lake Reno.
He is survived by his wife in Alexandria; sons Dennis and Linda of Glenwood, Alan of Alexandria and Jerry and Marlene of Burnsville; daughter Janel (and Darrel) of Forada; 11 grandchildren; sister Lillian M. Brezina of Forada and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters-in-law Shirley and Sherilyn Martinek.
